Spiny-tailed Monitor wikipedia article "gaming"

edit

Hi. For a few years now, a content creator named Mariah Healey of the website ReptiFiles (reptifiles.com) has been copying other creators content, doing light patchwriting, and then slapping a trademark and copyright on it before selling it.

This included the Spiny-Tailed Monitor article on wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiny-tailed_monitor). Mariah Healey very obviously used an automatic writing tool to generate an article that was literally the first sentence of each paragraph on the Wikipedia page - with no credit to Wikipedia on an article that is not CC-BY-SA that carries a copyright.

It appears someone has further gamed this system by crediting Mariah Healey with a citation *on the wikipedia page she copied* (link here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiny-tailed_monitor#cite_ref-17).

This seems to be a very clear case of abusing Wikipedia from multiple angles - not only by literally stealing and putting a copyright on Wikimedia content that she *sells* to people but also a case of an editor crediting her for the very article she plagiarized.

Please resolve this. 67.175.103.16 (talk) 04:47, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There are two separate issues here. First, you are claiming that somebody is reusing Wikipedia content in a way that violates the licence. That is of concern, but it is not something that Wikipedia can take action on (as opposed to whoever wrote the text that has been used): see WP:Mirrors and forks#Non-compliance process.
The second point is circular referencing, and that should be dealt with by removing the circular reference(s), and either finding better references to back up the material, or removing the now-unreferenced claims. Alternatively somebody could add the {{Circular reference}} tag.
Anybody could do this - you could, I could, somebody else could. It's not something that I choose to do. ColinFine (talk) 13:28, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You can verify. Check the page and the Wayback machine. ReptiFiles violated the license. It is a lightly patchwritten summarization of the wikipedia page and is extraordinarily obvious.
The circular reference is back to a page from someone who is not an authority and as far as anyone knows doesn't even own Ackie monitors. The information isn't from that author. 67.175.103.16 (talk) 01:46, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Down at the very end of the page for "categories" it incorrectly says "Education institutions established in 1907" - it should say "Education institutions established in 1903" (not 1907). Also, "1907 establishments in England" should say "1903 establishments in England". I cannot fix these 2 errors up. Thanks for helping. 175.33.243.212 (talk) 08:57, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You'll need a reliable source to have that change made; there is currently no such source for either establishment date. Bazza (talk) 09:48, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you read the article - you will see several reliable sources stating that the school was founded in 1903, not 1907. please fix. and thanks in advance. 175.33.243.212 (talk) 10:15, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(Repeated below). It was the categories that needed fixing, now   Done. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:43, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There is an article Babburkamme which mentions Uluchu Kamme. Perhaps you would find information there, or could add new material from relaible sources? Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:47, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The article was fine, it was just the categories that needed modyfying, which I have done. Thanks for pointing this out. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:27, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW, yet again, please do not start multiple sections with the same heading. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 12:51, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Collapse a template

edit

I added Template:Mosques in the United Kingdom to Bradford Grand Mosque. According to the template-page, it should be collapsed by default, but it wasn't, and I can't collapse it by adding a parameter either. Help? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:53, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You told it to autocollapse which means 'collapse in the presence of other nav templates'. If you want it to be collapsed all the time, |state=collapsed.
Trappist the monk (talk) 17:00, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that worked now, but I swear it didn't the first time [1]. Oh well. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:17, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Gråbergs Gråa Sång: You are right that it didn't work at the time of [2]. The template had wrong documentation since 2014.[3] {{collapsible option}} is only for the documentation. The parameter has to actually be implemented. Trappist the monk did that in [4] after your first post here. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:01, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
