editRequesting help in creating a WP:Shortcut
editFor example, there is a talk page shortcut available WT:MOS. I am requesting help in creating similar shortcut for Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Legal.
I could see help page WP:Shortcut, but I am not confident enough. Hence requesting help in creating a shortcut WT:MOS/LEGAL for Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Legal. Bookku (talk) 05:21, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- Bookku, what benefit does such a shortcut bring to either editors or readers? I use shortcuts all the time, but cannot remember a single instance in almost 14 years of editing when I used a shortcut to the WT "Wikipedia talk" namespace. Which real world users would actually use such a shortcut, and why? Cullen328 (talk) 07:37, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry I did not know there would be any policy difficulties. I requested because my own usage of Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Legal is increased. For example I always use to reach out @ WT:WIRED, I thought similar thing would be possible in this case too. Bookku (talk) 07:47, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- Bookku, I am not saying that there are "policy difficulties". I am just asking about the utility of such a shortcut. Cullen328 (talk) 08:03, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- Just ease of use for myself. Presently, every time I am accessing that talk page first going to WP:MoS/Legal then I access to talk page there. I think a shortcut like WT:MOS/LEGAL may make my job little simpler, the way I use for WT:WIRED or WP:DYKNOM for that matter. Bookku (talk) 08:22, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Bookku done. Creating shortcuts are cheap and unless you're worried about confusing/DAB shortcuts, I'd just create it. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 15:55, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

Ali Najafi
editHello, check the page related to Baa Ali Najafi, he has the approval requirements Shahoonosratii (talk) 08:28, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- Draft:Ali Najafi is far too short, and you have to click the box with the words "Submit the draft for review!".--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 08:35, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- The draft needs major improvements and more citations that are reliable – it also doesn't follow WP:MOS. You need to work more on the draft before it can get accepted. Dancing Dollar (let's talk) 12:28, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

- @Justin Toboso: Do you have a question about how to use or edit Wikipedia? Eagleash (talk) 13:36, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

For changing a wrong information
editHello, I want to change the birth date of Pranali Rathod. Because The given date of her birth is wrong. She was born on 15th of October 1999 not 1996. She's 23 right now not 26. So how can I change it? Also I want to provide more information about her family and career which I'm not able to do. Now what can I do to do so? 103.183.69.53 (talk) 13:43, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- What you should do is to discuss your proposed changes on the article's talk page, providing references. The Times of India reference shows her celebrating what it claims was her 26th birthday last year. Maproom (talk) 14:37, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- The best course of action would be to address the matter to the article talk page. Based on a short Google search, I can see what you mean: News Unzip, CelebWale and India Forums all claim that she born in 1999, despite other sources claiming otherwise. / and –
editGood afternoon. Could someone explain to me what the difference is between (example) "1929/1930" and "1929–1930"? "The progress of Udinese in the Italian football league structure since the first season of a unified Serie A (1929/30)". JackkBrown (talk) 14:02, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- "1929/1930" could be the designation of a tax year, or of a football season — something lasting for 12 months. "1929-1930" could be anything that started in 1929 and ended in 1930. Maproom (talk) 14:40, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- @JackkBrown: MOS:SLASH and MOS:ENDASH (specifically MOS:RANGE) give some information about how they should be used for specific meanings, including the two uses you give above. Bazza (talk) 16:53, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- Both forms are mentioned at MOS:YEARRANGE. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:45, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
Sentence
editI have already improved the following sentence, but it is not at all easy to make it as readable as possible; could anyone help me make it as readable as possible? "Iran Khodro Tabriz: is the leading Iranian vehicle manufacturer, with headquarters in Tehran.[81] The company's original name was "Iran National". In addition to Tehran, largest car factory in Iran have 5 automobile factories throughout the Iran. Iran Khodro until 2014 produced a capacity of 520,000[82] by building 150 Samand Arisan instead of the Bardo Pick-up Paykan[83] also this Iran Khodro site produces 100 IKCO Samand per day.[84]". Page: Azerbaijan (Iran); paragraph: "Economy"; subparagraph: "Heavy industries". JackkBrown (talk) 15:53, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- @JackkBrown I would encourage you to discuss on the talk page of the relevant article, or discuss at WP:COPYEDITORS to improve grammar of Articles. Happy copy editing! ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 15:59, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- I've made some copyedits to Azerbaijan (Iran). I'm sure there's scope for more. Maproom (talk) 17:27, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
Suppressing ref details in the source editor
editI use the source editor. When I'm copyediting, I sometimes find it difficult to pick out the actual text from among all the references. It would be easier if there were a setting for the source editor, that caused each reference to be reduced to something not much bigger than a single character. (My choice would be, to reduce each ref to a black number on a grey-red background, the number being that of the ref as seen in the reference list. But that's a detail.)
Maybe clicking on the number would expand the ref, to show it as now. Or maybe it would appear in a pop-up. Those also are details, that I have no strong view on.
Maybe this has already been implemented. It doesn't seem hard. But I've failed to find anything of the sort under Preferences and Gadgets. Maproom (talk) 19:16, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Maproom: It's been a while since I've used it, but you may want to use Cacycle's WikEd script that's available as a gadget at Preferences → Gadgets → Editing → wikEd. I remember one of the buttons compressing references into small gray REF blocks that expanded when clicked on, which may be what you're looking for. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 10:00, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you, WikiEd does what you say. The button is the fifth from the right in the top row: it shows a picture of a button with an R on it. But WikiEd also does other things differently. I'll see how it goes. Maproom (talk) 13:05, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Maproom A quick-and-dirty method is to use the Preview option (toggle) to the top right within the source editor. This gives a split-screen view where the text on the right will look exactly as it would in the final article. Hence you can copy out relevant text much more easily. Moving a page over a redirect
editA discussion on the talk page of Family of Catherine, Princess of Wales has three editors favouring a move to Middleton family, and no dissentors. I tried to make the move, but failed as that already exists as a redirect. I believe that admin powers are needed here – can someone please help? Maproom (talk) 19:31, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- I'll do the move. In the future you can post at WP:RMT. -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 20:08, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
Adopt a User
editIs the adopt a user program dead? I have left comments on user's talk pages and the project's talk page and just about anything else I can think of with no response. Blitzfan51 (talk) 20:06, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Blitzfan51 I would recommend checking out the newer mediawikiwiki:Growth project. I hope that helps! Happy mentoring! I currently have an updated dashboard at Special:MentorDashboard as a result ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 21:32, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
Plant page template
editI'm trying to make a new page for a plant (vegetable). Where can I find a template for plant pages? I'm particularly interested in the order of sections. I found it few days ago, alas, I closed the tab and now is annoyingly hard to find. Thanks! WikiUser70176 (talk) 20:58, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- @WikiUser70176: I'm too lazy to use those "templates" (not actually a "template, which has a specific technical meaning here). I just find an existing article about a similar plant (or other subject) and copy its format. -Arch dude (talk) 21:20, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- @WikiUser70176: I picked an arbitrary plant article. From there I found that is is part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Plants. From there, is found Wikipedia:WikiProject Plants/Template. -Arch dude (talk) 21:25, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- That's the one! Thanks a bunch! WikiUser70176 (talk) 23:44, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
