Freakolympics

Import of [[::]] to [[]]

Freakolympics is a weekly program on KXradio (formerly VARA and from 2004 to March 2006 Yorin FM -) program in which Rob Stenders delved into pop history .

In 1997 Rob Stenders started Freakolympics with Fred Siebelink at his side. Every Friday night they present this program for fans of pop music who would like to discover lost music gems. For five years Stenders worked on the so-called Nerd alphabet. All songs from pop music that are relevant in his opinion are arranged alphabetically in a list that should never be exhaustive. From March 2006 it can be heard on the internet station KX Radio , first on Friday evenings with Fred Siebelink, then on Monday mornings from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. And then every Thursday from 14:00 - 16:00 from the KX studio with Stenders and Siebelink.

In January 2015 the (provisional) last FreakOlympics will be broadcast on KX Radio.

Not done not only is this request completely malformed, but this is not the right place for this at all. If you want to draft a new article, please see Wikipedia:Articles for creation. — xaosflux Talk 14:09, 6 April 2023 (UTC)

  • Language: de:AVL List

  • Note: Carina. As an international company, we also want to make our Wikipedia article 1:1 available in English, the article is already available in German, Czech, French, Italian, Chinese and Persian. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Carina. (talkcontribs) 14:32, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
  • Note by importing administrator: Not done; the article about this company was deleted at articles for deletion and you have an extreme conflict of interest. Graham87 14:56, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
Dear Graham87, I am trying to understand why a legitimate article in German Wikipedia about an international company with 12,000 employees should not be available in English (as an unmodified import) and why I - even as a "paid editor" - am not allowed to initiate this process. What guidelines are being violated here? How should a conflict of interest arise here? In my opinion, knowledge should be available in one of the most widely spoken languages. Actually a Wikipedia goal. Maybe you can also coordinate with our reviewer MBq? Thank you. Carina.
    [3] Carina. (talk) 14:06, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
We do things very differently on the English Wikipedia from how they're done on the German site. Over here, anyone with any connection to a company (especially if they're being paid) has a conflict of interest (see the plain and simple conflict of interest guide). I'm not interested in communicating with you any further on this matter. Graham87 14:52, 4 May 2023 (UTC)

  • Note by importing administrator: Not done, per my comments at your last request relating to this person. Graham87 15:01, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
Hi Graham! Sorry for the inconvenience - this is my first attempt in translating an article... Ms. Neddens created the first version of the article, which is not the proper way. I totally agree. But since then, a lot of german Wikipedia users worked on referencing, verifying and improving it (please take a look the history https://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Christin_Neddens&action=history) to turn it from an "autobiography" into a serious Wiki. There even occurred a request for deletion, but the german admin refused to do so due to Ms. Neddens' relevance as a musician and the improvements/contributions from the other authors. I stumbled on the first version and was interested in improving it. No personal relationships or COI. Any chance for import? Would be great! Klaviermusikfan1972 (talk) 17:59, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
@Klaviermusikfan1972: I'm still not convinced. You only have 41 edits to the German Wikipedia, which is not enough to be an integral part of the community there or on any Wikimedia project. How do you know about this situation? Do you have a personal connection to her (e.g. you know her personally) or are you just a fan of her work? Has she asked for her article to be translated? The German Wikipedia has a very different approach to conflict-of-interest editing from that of the English Wikipedia. Graham87 07:12, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
Hi Graham! Thanks for your reply! I went to a concert where she performed and liked her playing. Afterward, I wanted to get more info on her and stumbled on the German Wiki article. I’m an (amateur) musician myself and contributed to some articles on a few musicians I found interesting. Neddens studied in the US and has over 110k followers from all over the world on Instagram, and that’s why I considered it a good idea to translate into English. I know, I’m not a super experienced user, but I’m not starting a completely new article. I‘m only requesting a translation of an article that is already on Wikipedia and that was edited by a couple of established users. Klaviermusikfan1972 (talk) 08:30, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
@Klaviermusikfan1972: Thanks for the clarification. I've done the import now. Graham87 15:06, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
Thanks a lot, Graham! Highly appreciate it!!! Just one more question: I checked the new article, but it’s still empty. Do I have to do anything else or did I do anything wrong? Sorry for stealing your time and thanks for your help! Klaviermusikfan1972 (talk) 17:35, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
I imported it into your userspace, as you requested, where you can make the translation. You can then move it into the article namespace when you're ready. For more help on this, you can ask at the teahouse. Graham87 18:37, 6 May 2023 (UTC)

Import of meta:User:Guycn2/UserInfoPopup.js to User:Guycn2/UserInfoPopup.js

  • Language: meta:User:Guycn2/UserInfoPopup.js
  • New name: User:Guycn2/UserInfoPopup.js
  • Note: Please import my meta user script to the English Wikipedia, with the same name it has there. Also please make sure to include the entire version history while importing. I've been writing this script for the last couple of days, and I'd like to have it stored on enwiki instead of meta, but I don't want to just copy-paste since the preservation of edit history is important. Thanks :) --Guycn2 (talk) 20:33, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
  • Note by importing administrator: Not done; this almost certainly requires an interface administrator, and if it doesn't that's a serious bug. So that would be @Xaosflux:. However, I'd refuse to do this import on principle even if I could, because it's editor names that are most important, not editor timestamps, and by definition you are the only one to edit your CSS/JS subpages. I don't think it's worth gumming up edit histories for something like this that's not in the article namespace. Graham87 03:13, 26 May 2023 (UTC)
@Guycn2: import isn't necessary here, as you are the only author on the other project; standard process for this type of content is copy/paste, on your edit summary you can just put something like From [[:meta:User:Guycn2/UserInfoPopup.js]]. If you want the pages on metawiki deleted as well please reply back to me here and I can do this as a one-time thing (import here + delete there). — xaosflux Talk 09:11, 26 May 2023 (UTC)
@Xaosflux: Yes, I would indeed like to delete these two pages (JS + CSS) from meta after importing them here. I'll be very grateful if you could do this as a one-time thing. Thank you Guycn2 (talk) 09:17, 26 May 2023 (UTC)
Thank you both for your quick reply. Isn't preserving edit histories the main purpose of the import tool, though? It's not just about the credits; the edit history is also important in order to quickly restore previous versions of the script whenever needed, as well as for other debugging purposes. I really thought this would be a non-controvertial import, especially given it doesn't involve the article namespace but rather just my user space. Plus, AFAIK this doesn't even require dealing with complicated XML uploads, since pages from Metawiki can be easily imported "transwiki-ly". I'd appreciate if you could reconsider my request. Guycn2 (talk) 09:15, 26 May 2023 (UTC)
@Guycn2 the primary purpose is to preserve author attributions, especially on articles that may be reused outside of Wikipedia. — xaosflux Talk 09:41, 26 May 2023 (UTC)

Import of meta:Help:Import to Help:Import

  • Language: meta:Help:Import
  • New name: Help:Import
  • Note: Help talk:Import ironically has a massive list of contributions needed for attribution. I think the much more thematic way of handling this situation is with a proper history import. Note that there were two WP:PARALLEL revisions on the local page (1, 2), but both were minor and reverted by the transwiki-ing bot soon after they were made, so I believe that it is alright to delete and replace them with imported history. HouseBlastertalk 00:18, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
  • Note by importing administrator: Hmmm ... I don't really feel like doing this one but @Xaosflux: you can if you want. It's just ... that's the way importing was in those days and I don't feel like messing with that. There are many more pages where that came from (I understand why you picked that one though) and the cut-off points for the imports can be a bit fuzzy. In short, I think this sort of import is more trouble than it's worth. Graham87 03:57, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
Not done agree with Graham87 here; not only is there a local attribution list, but the initial edit summary has a hot link to the other source; combine that the pages have since forked a bit and have intermingled edits that would require manual work or dirtying up the deleted history. — xaosflux Talk 23:32, 13 June 2023 (UTC)

  • Note by importing administrator: @Luitold: Not done; imports aren't required here. The first edit summary gave sufficient attribution. Graham87 (talk) 16:00, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
@Graham87: it's not sufficient enough. The link in the 1st revision commentary does not link to the original article. With this the original authors are not named and you violate the attribution clause of CC-by-sa license. You need to list the original authors or to import the revisions in this case. – Doc TaxonTalk12:20, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
@Doc Taxon: Because of the typo in the first edit summary? That's easy to fix with a redirect on dewiki ... I'm sure JIP isn't the first person in the world to make that typo. If that redirect isn't appropriate, feel free to delete it ... if a link is added to the target on the deletion log, that would also be an adequate link in my book. This is the English Wikipedia; I'm not bound to follow the fairly extreme policies on the German Wikipedia (compared to other WMF wikis) regarding attribution. Graham87 (talk) 12:57, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
@Graham87: The deleted redirect is a good idea. It's not a fairly extreme policy on the German Wikipedia but an international copyleft license whose attribution clauses should not be violated. I by myself think about it, that revision imports is not the best solution as well, but a user list is required. We and other WMF wikis should not violate copyleft licenses. – Doc TaxonTalk14:08, 24 October 2023 (UTC)

  • Language: de:Ingbert_Naab
  • New name Ingbert Naab
  • Note: I would like to import this article about Ingbert Naab, a German Capuchin friar and resistance fighter against the Nazi regime, from the German Wikipedia. The article meets the notability criteria for the English Wikipedia as it covers a significant historical figure. I plan to translate and adapt the content for the English-speaking audience, ensuring all sources are properly cited and verified. --RememberingIngbertNaab (talk) 13:56, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
  • Note by importing administrator: Not done; your lack of experience (not enough to create articles here) and your username indicate that you may have some kind of conflict of interest either relating to him or publications about him. Graham87 (talk) 14:47, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
Indeed I have a lack of experience regarding Wikipedia but I guess I will be able to compose the english article based on the german wikipedia article, if I have the imported "german draft" (source code of the german wikipedia article) and can edit it and preview it, I guess this is how this works once it is imported.
Regarding a "conflict of interest" I am a private person and just created the "first best" username to specifically translate this article about Ingbert Naab and thought that "RememberingIngbertNaab" would be a fitting username for this purpose. Doing so seemed to be a good course of action IMHO. I dont understand what you mean by "conflict of interest" in this case, it is just a username which seemed appropriate to me.
Thanks and best regards :-) RememberingIngbertNaab (talk) 15:00, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
    • @RememberingIngbertNaab: You can just copy the source code from the edit field here. Honestly the fact that you can't figure that out yourself is just a further indication that you should learn to edit Wikipedia first before trying one of our hardest tasks, starting a new article. When you translate the page, use an edit summary like "Translated text from German article at de:Ingbert Naab, per our guideline on Copying within Wikipedia. Importation of the edit history is not strictly required; it's massively popular on the German Wikipedia but not so much here (this process only exists due to a bizarre series of coincidences). Re conflict of interest: I mean a close personal connection with one of the people who has written about the case or something like that. Re the username: just ... the more unusual the username, the more unusual the point of view ... that's been the general trend on the English Wikipedia. For more help, ask at the teahouse.
