Missing New Jersey Supreme Court Justices
Drafts have been created for dozens of missing New Jersey Supreme Court Justices at Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/United States judges and justices#New Jersey. Please help complete these drafts and move them to mainspace. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Cheers! bd2412 T 02:46, 13 June 2016 (UTC)

- Thanks! Moved to Stewart G. Pollock. bd2412 T 02:22, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
With regard to above request and the List of Justices of the Supreme Court of New Jersey several have been:
published
stubs, unlikely to be greatly expanded greatly……publish?
- Henry E. Ackerson, Jr.
- Frederic R. Colie
- Albert E. Burling
- Charles Wolcott Parker
- Edward W. Scudder
- Thomas Whitaker Trenchard
- William A. Wachenfeld
In case of the latter and others which are similar (not lot's of material available) any suggestions as to how to proceed: publish stubs???Djflem (talk) 18:36, 25 June 2016 (UTC)
- I say that the stubs should be published. In most cases, we'll be able to find sources about the appointment and / or death of the judges. Alansohn (talk) 02:12, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
- The above have been moved to mainspace. They may need some c/e and/or "wikifying". Thanks.Djflem (talk) 07:01, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
more published stubs needing work

US 50,000 Challenge invite
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject United States/The 50,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more states than they might otherwise work on. If there's the interest I will start 1000 State Challenges like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of states regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for the US and your specialist/home state like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every state, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any state sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thankyou.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:22, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
2016 Community Wishlist Survey Proposal to Revive Popular Pages
Greetings WikiProject New Jersey/Archive 6 Members!
This is a one-time-only message to inform you about a technical proposal to revive your Popular Pages list in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:
If the above proposal gets in the Top 10 based on the votes, there is a high likelihood of this bot being restored so your project will again see monthly updates of popular pages.
Further, there are over 260 proposals in all to review and vote for, across many aspects of wikis.
Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.
Best regards, Stevietheman — Delivered: 18:05, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Category:Princeton University alumni subcategories by decade??
Does anyone know where the discussion occurred that allowed for all of the subcategories that breaks up Category:Princeton University alumni by decade? I think it's a dangerous trend to set and makes navigation unnecessarily difficult. Jrcla2 (talk) 16:52, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
Notice to participants at this page about adminship
Many participants here create a lot of content, may have to evaluate whether or not a subject is notable, decide if content complies with BLP policy, and much more. Well, these are just some of the skills considered at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship.
So, please consider taking a look at and watchlisting this page:
You could be very helpful in evaluating potential candidates, and even finding out if you would be a suitable RfA candidate.
Many thanks and best wishes,
I have corrected the only source. Please verify. The page is still an orphan.Xx236 (talk) 10:02, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
Popular pages report
We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject New Jersey/Archive 6/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject New Jersey.
We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:
- The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
- The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
- The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).
We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject New Jersey, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.

Local government in New Jersey
While the article Local government in New Jersey makes clear the different types of municipalities and forms of government, it does not discuss what each type is responsible for (maintenance of roads, schools, water/sewer, police/fire, ect). Do all types of municipalities have general policing powers? Does the state regulate different types of municipalities differently? Do different classes have different powers devolved to them? Original names of townships in Bergen County, New Jersey be redirected to current townships
I am asking that I would like to merge these:
- Hohokus Township, New Jersey be merged into Mahwah, New Jersey
- Union Township, Bergen County, New Jersey be merged into Lyndhurst, New Jersey
- Saddle River Township, New Jersey be merged into Saddle Brook, New Jersey
This is done because it makes no sense that it would have separate articles for the original names of the townships, and because Sears Holdings continues to close Sears and Kmart stores. This is so for the latter, I don't have to feel like things will never be the same. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.6.186.85 (talk) 10:25, 25 December 2017 (UTC)

Jersey City railroads running parallel to NJ 139
Cross post from Wikipedia talk:WikiProject New York City Public Transportation#Jersey City railroads running parallel to NJ 139.
Backstory: I was doing research for the Holland Tunnel article when I discovered that in 1927, the builders were involved in a legal dispute with the Erie Railroad over rail yards. So I started investigating, and it seemed like the rail yard dispute centered around the plot of land where I-78 and NJ 139 merge, here 40°43′52″N 74°03′04″W / 40.731°N 74.051°W. Simple enough.
I went to Google Maps and saw an abandoned rail viaduct just south of I-78, and looked it up. It led me to our Bergen Arches page, which has an image of the right of way passing under I-78 before heading into an abandoned tunnel. Still OK.
Then I saw the Hudson County Railroad map and looked up the National Docks Secondary. Now here's the confusing part. That page says that the secondary heads into the Long Dock Tunnel at its northern end, and that the tunnel runs parallel to the NJ 139 open cut. Why, then, does the Bergen Arches page refer to a cut that runs parallel to NJ 139, and then give this coordinate 40°44′13″N 74°03′34″W / 40.7369°N 74.0594°W? It seems to point to the Long Dock Tunnel, which has very similar coordinates. 40°44′08″N 74°03′27″W / 40.7355°N 74.0574°W. I thought that was the Long Dock Tunnel. Both articles give only fleeting mentions of the other. Are they parallel, and if so, which one is located to the north and which one is located to the south? Finally, should they still be two separate articles? epicgenius (talk) 20:20, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.
If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.
If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.
Thank you. — The Transhumanist 07:49, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
South Jersey projects
Would anyone here be interested in a task force on South Jersey specific articles? Lately I've been editing articles in Atlantic and Cape May County, but I realize that there are some important topics that cover the entire region (Pinelands National Reserve, Atlantic City Expressway, the Kirkwood–Cohansey aquifer, various wildlife, farm towns, tourism towns). New Jersey is a pretty big state for being such a small state, so I wonder, is there anyone here interested in a South Jersey task force within WPNJ? ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 20:22, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

Garden State Parkway
I am very concerned about the following from the article: "Literature from the time of the parkway's construction indicates that the parkway would become toll-free once bonds used for its construction were paid off. " This claim has no notation and no substantiation. It has been an Urban Legend in NJ for decades and as yet, no one has ever been able to produce any definitive proof of it. Unless Wiki has the original enabling legislation from 1951 or some other reliable documentation (NOT just "it's been said"), you should rethink this assertion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bknewman (talk • contribs) 16:16, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
- I added a source from the Cape May County Herald. It certainly was the plan, and was even referenced in the executive order that introduced one-way tolling, as seen here. oknazevad (talk) 11:12, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- The source added is an improvement, but I'm not sure that it's ideal. Written by someone who is part of "an ad-hoc commit-tee called Citizens Against Tolls, whose primary goal was the elimination of tolls on the Garden State Parkway.", the claim that the toll was intended to be temporary would fit with the group's efforts to get rid of tolls as fulfilling an earlier promise. I'm more impressed with Executive Order 128, but even that states that it "was widely understood by the public that tolls on the Garden State Parkway (the 'Parkway') would only be necessary" until bonds and costs were paid off, not that there was any formal commitment to do so. I've heard this claim about other bridges and highways, but I've never seen a contemporaneous source -- in a newspaper, magazine or offering document -- that would support the claim. I certainly would not eliminate the claim as added by Oknazevad, but I'm not sure that we've met the gold standard. Alansohn (talk) 14:39, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

Subcategory placement for communities
I realize this has been brought up in the past, but it dawned on me that Category:Unincorporated communities in New Jersey only has 2 entries which are redirects. I don't see any harm to include all communities in this category, reason being where the reader can have the option to search for communities by either county-level or by state-level, alphabetically. This can also be applied to entries for Category:Census-designated places in New Jersey. Tinton5 (talk) 02:49, 26 October 2018 (UTC)

Unincorporated communities
Radburn, New Jersey is in fact an incorporated community, not an unincorporated one. While it is not incorporated as itself, it is still an incorporated part of the borough Fair Lawn, New Jersey. I would not call the West Village an unincorporated community, it is a neighborhood in incorporated New York City, or Hollywood is a community within incorporated Los Angeles; all are within the governance area of a municipal corporation, and it would be more accurate to just call all of these in New Jersey "communities" or "neighborhoods". More simply, per Local government in New Jersey there are no unincorporated areas in the state. I would suggest just changing these to say "Radburn is a community located within..." It can link to Local_government_in_New_Jersey#Communities, which Oknazevad renamed: "lead with the most salient fact: there are no unincorporated communities in New Jersey. Period. There may be neighborhoods of distinct character, but to call them "unincorporated communities" is a total misnomer and should not be done." This shouldn't be difficult to do in bulk with AWB. I am also concerned with the notability of a number of these that are that are not neighborhoods of a distinct character or historically separate but are rather modern subdivisions/housing developments that do not have the significant sources that would pass WP:GEOLAND#2, but that's for another time. Reywas92Talk 22:48, 27 January 2020 (UTC)
- Reywas92, Radburn is *NOT* an incorporated community; it has no government, elected governing body or mayor. It exists within Fair Lawn, New Jersey. For more than a decade, we've described such places as "unincorporated communities", as they exist within and are part of incorporated boroughs, cities, towns, townships and villages. The question is whether there is consensus to change that terminology in a manner that does not create the impression that these places are incorporated communities. Once consensus is reached, the changes should be made; not before then.As to the question of whether articles should exist for places where there is no detail beyond the name, I am in greater agreement with you, but [[U|Tinton5}} and I may disagree on whether all articles should be turned into redirects to their parent incorporated municipalities; again, that is a matter that should be decided by consensus, not on a drive-by basis. Alansohn (talk) 23:28, 27 January 2020 (UTC)
- I think the simplest, clearest way to put it is that it is a community or neighborhood within an incorporated borough/township/city. A community is not assumed to have a government, especially when "within" another community, so not being separately incorporated doesn't need to be spelled out. Especially with respect to the county navboxes, they're presented as being the same level as the cities/townships/villages; this is true for other states where a county is divided into some incorporated places and some unincorporated, but when the unincorporated places are actually subsets of the incorporated ones, it's less clear to present these as similar to the systems in other states. For better consistency this usage should be limited to communities with no local government at all, i.e. in unincorporated areas under control of the county. Reywas92Talk 00:52, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
I'm going to say what I've said before. The use of the term "unincorporated community" for any part of New Jersey is plain wrong. Every square inch of the state is part of one and only one incorporated municipality. There is no unincorporated county land, so there's no places analogous to East Los Angeles, California, or Paradise, Nevada, for example, and there's only one level of municipal government in New Jersey, so there's nothing analogous to hamlets in New York. We really shouldn't be using the term in relation to New Jersey at all. It is misleading to readers. Also, I think, as a whole, we spend way too many bytes on census designated places, not just in New Jersey, but throughout the entire country. As noted in the article on them, they're really just bureaucratic ledger entries and can be transitory in shape and size. They're not really notable, and have very little meaning beyond that administrative purpose. Do we really need a separate article for the Toms River CDP considering the only difference is the omission of the Dover Beaches CDPs, which are tiny, otherwise not independently notable, have articles that are entirely repetitious of the main Toms River articles save for the regurgitation of boilerplate statistics, and not even at their common names? No, we don't. Simply creating articles because an administrative statistical index includes a name shows a lack of significant comprehension and engagement with the subject. Most, of not all, CDP articles should redirect to the actual places they are located in. oknazevad (talk) 12:52, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
- In English the prefix un means not. So, in that sense the term unincorporated means "not" incorporated, which exactly describes the communities in question: they are in and of themselves not incorporated as a legal entity. As has been noted they are part of other municipal entities are indeed incorporated. While each inch of land and body of water is part of some incorporated entity, the community themselves are unincorporated in a legal sense. One can say they are incorporated into that the greater entity, just as a one-day excursion might be incorporated into a seven-day cruise. But the excursion and the cruise remain a part and a whole. Because a municipality as a whole is incorporated doesn't mean its component parts are. Many of these communities, while not so designated are similar to CDPs, which are described by "Geographic Terms and Concepts" (PDF). U.S. Census Bureau. 2010. as "settled concentrations of population that are identifiable by name but are not legally incorporated under the laws of the state in which they are located." Djflem (talk) 22:00, 29 January 2020 (UTC)
- But that's just it, they are incorporated as part of a single municipality according to try laws of New Jersey. They may be independently notable neighborhoods, but calling them "unincorporated" is a misnomer at best. oknazevad (talk) 00:45, 6 February 2020 (UTC)

- In this use though, "unincorporated" has a specific meaning of "not part of any incorporated municipality", not just "not separately incorporated". That's why it's a misnomer. oknazevad (talk) 14:09, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

New Jersey newspapers
As part of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Newspapers, I have updated the List of newspapers in New Jersey using standards from the newspapers project. I put the daily newspapers into a sortable table with references. This is much work to be done, if others have an interest. G. Moore Talk to G Moore 13:45, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
- G. Moore, thanks for the effort. That there are articles for all of the daily newspapers is a big first step. Most of the rest are small, local publications. Based on your experience in other states, what work do you think is most needed here? Alansohn (talk) 14:22, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
- Alansohn, The goal is to make the Lists Featured Lists, eventually. There should be a reference for every newspaper in the list. Between the Library of Congress and the New Jersey Press Association, there should be references for every newspaper. I started a section in the list on Special Interest newspaper, of which there are many in New Jersey. There should also be a section on College newspapers. Some of the more historic defunct newspapers should be added to that section, too. I start by just adding the paper to a bullet list and when there is enough info, make it a table. If a notable newspaper is listed, then a link to create an article could be used. We have a draft definition of a notable newspaper in the project, Wikipedia:WikiProject_Newspapers/Notability. There is additional info on what is expected in a newspaper article, including infobox, categories, and coordinates. There is now a map for the Category:Newspapers published in New Jersey. We have used this model to build out the List of newspapers in Minnesota, North Carolina, and Washington, D.C. Hope this helps. G. Moore 19:27, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
Proposed articles for future creation
I noticed List of neighborhoods in Sayreville, New Jersey has been recently created which is brilliantly done by user Djflem. More of these types of lists should be created with other municipalities that are large in size and that contain at least a dozen neighborhoods and/or subdivisions where each one cannot hold or warrant a page of their own and would contain details about each individual neighborhood in a table. These would be potential examples:
- List of neighborhoods in Cherry Hill, New Jersey
- List of neighborhoods in Howell Township, New Jersey
- List of neighborhoods in Camden, New Jersey
- List of neighborhoods in Elizabeth, New Jersey (This is currently a redirect to the Elizabeth, New Jersey article, but could have its own page, maybe up for a discussion, by only a capitalized N)
- List of neighborhoods in Ewing Township, New Jersey
- Etc... Tinton5 (talk) 02:20, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- Tinton5, we can see that the near-term trend is to have many of the microstub community articles turned into redirects. Your proposed "List of neighborhoods in..." articles (and the ones you've already created) would best help serve as a redirect target and as a location to incubate those articles that could be turned back into meaningful standalone articles. Alansohn (talk) 13:52, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- List of neighborhoods in Sayreville, New Jersey, List of neighborhoods in Edison, New Jersey, List of neighborhoods in Woodbridge Township, New Jersey and Neighborhoods in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, all in Middlesex County, warrant articles. Therefore the next step would be to clean up Template:Middlesex County, New Jersey and recast and re-list 'unincoporated communities' (UC) to include directs to these above lists and shorten it so it isn't filled communities in those municipalities and the many redirects to them. Most other UCs should just be re-directed to the appropriate municipality, unless they is substantive text & citations.
- Ewing Township, New Jersey#Geography has a very good map and a good list. It's fine the way it is. No further action needed.
- Cherry Hill, New Jersey would be best served following the Ewing Township model above.Djflem (talk) 17:54, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- Elizabeth, New Jersey coul tolerate a Wikipedia:SPINOUT and formatting.
- Category:Neighborhoods in Camden, New Jersey could be listed and formatted.
- List of neighborhoods in Paterson, New Jersey could use formatting.
- There is already an extensive discussion about sections of Talk:Howell Township, New Jersey, so it is better to continue it there, or if ones feels strongly, to actually make the list.Djflem (talk) 17:54, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

CDPs in county navboxes
So someone has been updating the county navboxes to include all CDPs used for the 2020 census. Again, I wonder what's the point? CDPs are transitory bureaucratic conveniences that change every ten years. They do not have the permanence and significance of actual municipalities, and the criteria used to delineate them by the Census Bureau changes each census. This time around they decided to treat residential college campuses as separate CDPs for their own administrative convenience, for example. That does not make them equivalent to municipalities in any meaningful way, and yet by listing them in the navboxes that's exactly what we are doing. We already have gone and removed inappropriate listing in the past, and I think this expansion is just as inappropriate as ever, and I think they should be removed. It's not like they aren't part of an incorporated municipality already just like every single square inch of the state, so their inclusion ks redundant to the municipalities they are already part of.
I genuinely don't think any separate articles on CDPs in New Jersey should exist; the fact that a neighborhood of a municipality is marked as a CDP by the Census Bureau can be mentioned in the appropriate article on the municipality or neighborhood (the latter of which should only exist if the neighborhood shows independent notability outside of being a CDP), but CDPs are not themselves notable as, again, they're just bureaucratic conveniences, not actual places. oknazevad (talk) 20:42, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
- Per this source from the United States Census Bureau, "Census designated places (CDPs) are statistical geographic entities representing closely settled, unincorporated communities that are locally recognized and identified by name. They are the statistical equivalents of incorporated places, with the primary differences being the lack of a legally defined boundary and an active, functioning governmental structure, chartered by the state and administered by elected officials." As such, CDPs should have articles in general above and beyond the articles for neighborhoods and other areas for which articles have been created across the state. We list incorporated municipalities and neighborhoods in navigation boxes, and of course CDPs should be listed. CDPs are no less redundant than neighborhoods. The fact that we have comprehensive data for these "closely settled, unincorporated communities that are locally recognized and identified by name" -- i.e. CDPs -- is exactly why we should have articles for them. Alansohn (talk) 21:01, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
- Except that there are no unincorporated places in New Jersey. None. Period. Every square inch of the state is part of an incorporated municipality. The census use is for something like a hamlet in New York State, which does not exist in New Jersey at all. It's uniquely an invalid use of the term for the state. Any name beyond the municipal name is just a name for a neighborhood. I'm not saying take out significant neighborhoods from the navboxes, I'm saying that CDPs shouldn't be listed as separate entities because they're not actual meaningful divisions for any purpose other than census bureau convenience.
- (Frankly, that really applies to all CDP usage across Wikipedia; I think we make too much about a generally unimportant clerical definition when mailing addresses are far more significant to daily life, but I digress. oknazevad (talk) 03:47, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
- This seems more like a complaint against CDP articles in general rather than specifically including them in county navboxes. I'm going to push back against the notion that CDP statistics are only of interest to the Census Bureau. If they (and the local planning commissions who usually are the ones delineating them) are going to define places that have enough cohesiveness and size that they get their own statistics, why would we not want to use that information? It doesn't matter what the legal status or incorporation status or whatever is, it's information that is available, so why obscure that? The number of CDPs does change from decade to decade; I find that it's largely an increase as we go forward in time. It's really not as fluctuating, though, as the original poster states. My two cents... --Ken Gallager (talk) 15:15, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
It is irrelevant that the CDPs and other unincorporated communities in NJ are part of an incorporated municipality. They represent clearly identifiable, recognized, named places, sections, districts, areas, neighborhoods, areas, etc. Some are more well-known - (Iselin, Ocean Grove, Radburn, for example - than others. While some neighborhoods might be debatable (Wikipedia:GEOLAND), most CDP's in NJ are very clearly defined settlements (see above Census Bureau definition), and for the completeness any encyclopedia should have, all warrant inclusion. Rename Freeholder to Commissioner
I added a recipe to Template talk:NJ Essex County Freeholders explaining how to replace Freeholder with the new term Commissioner.
This should be done for all counties.
A list of affected templates can be found by going to Special:Search, and searching for Freeholder in the Template namespace: [1]
If you fix this for a county freeholder template page, it would be good to note that here and in the talk page for the county freeholder template. When listing fixed county freeholder template pages here, it would be convenient to keep them in alphabetical order by county.
Bruce Esrig (talk) 09:59, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

AtlantiCare is not involved with Geisinger and all info should be removed.
I work for a company that manages listings for AtlantiCare. During a Bing search of AtlantiCare a Bing Snapshot (similar to Google Panels) pops up stating that Geisinger is a parent company of AtlantiCare and this is no longer true. They have separated and now have court records stating that all info of the relation should be removed at once.
Now I have contacted Bing and their support states they do not own the info placed on the snapshots and that they are scrapped from outside sources. This particular bit on information is said to be coming from their Wiki page. How do we get all Geisinger info removed from their Wiki page as well as the image that states Geisinger right on it as soon as possible so that it does not syndicate that info out anymore? — Preceding unsigned comment added by IWho12 (talk • contribs) 14:35, 11 April 2022 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources
I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (
John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.
)
and turns it into something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.
The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.
Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Project-independent quality assessments
Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class=
parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.
No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.
However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom
parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Aymatth2 (talk) 17:23, 12 April 2023 (UTC)

Discrepency on listed photo year for Albany street bridge, New Brunswick
Looking at the photo of the albany street bridge (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Albany_Street_Bridge,_1910.png), which is apart of a larger arial of New Brunswick (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Aero_view_of_New_Brunswick,_New_Jersey,_1910_(cropped).png) these files are both noted as being illustrations from 1910. However, the discrepancy is the addition of the boathouse attached downstream of the bridge, which reportedly washed away in 1882 (https://www.rucrew.com/history). Ragengauge (talk) 20:36, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
- The source of the map is:
- "Aero view of New-Brunswick, New Jersey, 1910". The Library of Congress. 1910. Retrieved 2024-01-16.

Peaceray (talk) 21:24, 16 January 2024 (UTC)- Ragengauge, you did not state where the photo was used. I presume that it is at Albany Street Bridge. There is a discrepancy, in that the original boathouse washed away in 1882, but the bridge was built in 1887. My guess is that there was a rebuilt floating boathouse; perhaps you can find documentation about this. Peaceray (talk) 21:33, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
- I found no documentation stating of a second floating boathouse. The current boathouse is down past Boyd Park. According to multiple sources, chiefly https://scarletknights.com/sports/2017/6/11/facilities-boathouse-html.aspx The current boathouse was built in 1950.
- Oddly enough, in this "documentary," supposedly produced by Coach William Levitt in 1961 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOL-_CfjDLU&t=7), the crew had no boathouse for 25 years, beginning in 1934. This, however, would contradict the class of 1914 boathouse page on scarletknights.com claim of the boathouse being built in 1950.
- Of additional note, I did find one video with a picture of the original boathouse not found anywhere else online (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRVWRdZHI9w&t=11). Ragengauge (talk) 23:09, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
