Carla Vernón is my sister. She is the incoming Afro-Latina CEO of The Honest Company, with a start date of January 9 2023. I am trying to get someone else to create the article to avoid the strongly discouraged WP:COI editorial involvement. I am hoping someone will create the article soon so it can appear at WP:DYK on January 9. You can find source links at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Women_in_Red#Carla_Vernón.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 17:16, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

Launching the #SheSaid drive on Wikiquote
On the 20th October, at the Gender Gap panel for the Creative Commons Virtual Global Summit, Wiki Loves Women's Anthere and Islahaddow launched the SheSaid campaign. The SheSaid drive is aimed at improving the visibility of women across Wikimedia projects by creating new or improving already existing Wikiquote entries spoken by notable women.
Why the SheSaid campaign?
One reason is to balance the representation of gender in the entries of Wikiquote. The other is to show that women's quotes are less likely to be featured than men's. Here are a few statistics:
- On the English Wikiquote main page on 6th of Oct 2020, in the Selected people section... 29 men are featured and only 4 women (check out the screenshot on the right...)
- There are 233 women who have a featured article on either French or English Wikipedias... with no entry on the French Wikiquote check it out
- There are 141 women featured article on the English Wikipedia with no wikiquote entry check it
- There are 519 women listed on the French wikiquote check it and 3117 men listed check it out
Obviously, not all women say good quotes that would make a wikiquote entry worth it. Still...
How to get involved?
SheSaid runs until the 20h of December 2020. We hope you will take part! Please share with your community! To find out more and join the campaign here.

Project-independent quality assessments
Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class=
parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.
No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.
However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom
parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Aymatth2 (talk) 22:34, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

This article highlights the big tools every project ought to make use of, I feel. I'm posting this here since WP Women is pretty tentacular, and has many daughter subprojects.
It's more or less a general reminder that
- a) WP:AALERTS, WP:RECOG, and WP:CLEANUPLISTINGS are a thing which every editor ought to know about
- b) it's a good idea to have those displayed somewhere on the front page of your projects, and
- c) it's a good idea to have (if your normal shortcut is WP:WOMEN), the additional shortcuts WP:WOMEN/AALERTS / WP:WOMEN/RECOG / WP:WOMEN/DYK / WP:WOMEN/CLEANUPLISTINGS if/when those are setup.
I've created WP:WOMEN/AALERTS and WP:WOMEN/CLEANUPLISTINGS (and WP:WPWOMEN/AALERTS and WP:WPWOMEN/CLEANUPLISTINGS) since you had Article Alerts and Cleanup Listings setup already. You can do the same for other standard shortcuts if you have them, or other women-related projects like WP:WSPORTS, etc. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 22:32, 20 July 2023 (UTC)

Women as footnotes in history
I have written a number of articles about women in history, who change perspectives - but none who were just people of their time, who became footnotes in history because they were women and had social duties to perform that conferred obscurity, which might not have been the case had they been men. For me, this is social history but does it work for you? A couple of months ago, I posted Minnie Byron. Nobody today has heard of her, despite the fact that she has over 1,700 citations (mostly in national newspapers). That doesn’t make her notable (she gets an average of 1 pageview a day, which is probably a bot) and yet her story is powerfully emblematic of many Victorian women who had limited control over their lives, and who as professional actors, risked being labelled either a prostitute if ignorant, or a bluestocking if well educated.[1] There is no doubt that the acting profession gained hugely in respectability from the mid 19th century through to women’s suffrage.[2] but then she was consigned to obscurity by marriage, which is where social history takes on. Her marital journey is a powerful illustration of the limitations imposed on women and not just in the 19th century; her struggle reveals character worthy of notability but is it enough to be of interest to WikiProject Women? Geneus01 (talk) 07:37, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
- I've added her to the surname lists at both Byron (name) and Babb: just helps expose her a bit more. PamD 11:42, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

This wiki biographical story of Lynn Merrick fails to recognize one fact: she was the niece of Adrienne Ames. Merrick's mother was Adrienne's sister. This is not mentioned in Miss Ames biographical story either. I know this is a fact, because my father was Samuel Hugh McClure, Jr, born 1906 and brother to Adrienne Ames and Alverda Jane (McClure) Merrick. notifying this WikiProject about AfD
Hello, I'd be grateful if someone could provide me with some information on the practice of notifying this WikiProject about the nomination for deletion of BLP whose subjects are women. I'm interested in knowing if this practice has been challenged in the past, and if so, what arguments have been used to criticise and defend it -- if anyone could point to a discussion, that would be great. Personally I welcome this practice, and the reason I'm asking about it is that it has been the subject of harsh controversy on another WP language edition in the recent past: I'd like to compare the ways in which this issue has been addressed in different WMF projects. Thanks, Gitz (talk) (contribs) 10:41, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
- Gitz, you could ask Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red the same question as their talk page gets more page views. There was a discussion of WikiDonne here. On en Wikipedia there are notifications for articles about women via Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting and there can also be individual notices posted here or at WiR. The individual notices might be more controversial. TSventon (talk) 17:08, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you. I was aware of that discussion about Camelia, which is basically why I'm asking about previous discussions on en.wiki. Yes, I will ask at WiR, thanks. Gitz (talk) (contribs) 17:47, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

This looks to be a very detailed article with lots of references, but I can't help but feel that the article reads very essay-like at the moment. If any editors in this WikiProject would be interested in improving this article, I think this has great potential. GnocchiFan (talk) 14:05, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
Hi all
I just finished an article for a young Indian librarian, Muskan Ahirwar. I would really appreciate some help in improving the article, especially any additional information and formatting. If another 500 characters can be added I can nominate it for DYK.
Thanks very much
