Listing of leader names

edit

Though Avenue is inciting WP:Crystal, convention and precedent is set by other Canadian election websites such as 42nd Canadian federal election, 41st Quebec general election, 41st Ontario general election, and every other provincial election page in Canada as per

Gerrard will not lead the Liberals into the next general election, including him, and the other leaders in the infobox, is speculation. This article is about a future event, not the current state of government in Manitoba. Wikipedia does not set precedent, we are always looking to improve articles. (And side note, seven isn't every province.) 117Avenue (talk) 00:28, 10 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
In one respect I totally get where you are coming from, but I fail to see how this improves the article. 2 other questions I would raise our that I agree that this is a topic of interest why chose here and now to do it? Since this would also apply to all other election pages, in order to build consensus it would seem more appropriate to do it on a much busier page. Why here and now, or is it just the issue of Gerard which could also be settled. Given that there were leadership elections in the 42nd election with Turmel and Rae as interims there did not appear to be an issue there.
Speculation is a concept that through WP:Crystal applies to whether the event is to be held or not. We know that there is a future election in all of these provinces and that this election though mandated to appear by a certain date could appear at any moment. For all we know the election could be called for a week or a month from now. Yet it is impossible to say given the precarious nature of politics. Though something could happen to both the PC and NDP leaders to prevent their running in the next election, it is highly unlikely an event that they would get in a car accident or meet some other fatal end or politically fatal end that prevents their running. Aside from Gerard and the impending leadership race, it is more speculative that something will happen to prevent these leaders from running in the next election. In addition by your standard it would also be speculative in US elections that leaders post-Primaries that those party leaders would be in the election given that some event may occur to prevent their running in the elections. Speculative nature does not seem to apply to this issue since I would argue the WP:Crystal would apply to the page as a whole rather than the information contained within. I think if we are trying to improve a page including the most reliable and inclusive info possible provides the best database for the reader.
I would conclude that while this is a good issue to discuss, maybe it would be more prudent to take it on as a whole such as the other discussed pages, or the 42nd fed page where more debate can flow rather that this taking place on a fringe Can election talk page where few if any users can discuss. That is unless your only issue is with the Gerard as interim leader being included. Krazytea(talk) 01:13, 10 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
My answer to the question, why here and now, is as I indicated in the previous comment, Gerrard. This has been an issue on the federal article, see Talk:42nd Canadian federal election#Leaders. Saying that it is "unlikely something won't happen", is a CRYSTAL violation. Politics can swing, less than a year before the 41st Quebec general election members formed a new caucus, politicians can resign, less than a year before the 28th Alberta general election both the Premier and the Leader of the Opposition resigned, famous people can die, two years ago Jack Layton was expected to continue leading the growing NDP. What you are saying is speculation. 117Avenue (talk) 02:08, 10 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Wading in here I tend to support listing the current leaders that we know about today and indicating (as this article does) when there is a caveat on that. All that said I think this issue, which has come up before, is bigger than this one article and really needs a consensus on how to deal with this over many different articles in a consistent manner. Would Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Governments of Canada be the place to take this for wider agreement? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ahunt (talkcontribs) 13:21, 10 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Opinion pollsters

edit

I have reverted an edit removing a poll released by "Insight Manitoba". Firstly, the link provided did not provide details on the poll, this may be a temporary problem. Secondly, Insight Manitoba does not appear to be a bona fide polling company. CBC have not included this poll in their poll tracker along with all the other polls that have been conducted.
