New to wikipedia

Hey I'm new to wikipedia and I'm looking to be adopted. I really could use the help to figure out how to navigate and basically get started. I know with a better understanding of how wikipedia works, it'll be easy to manage.. But as a first timer I need the help to get going. I'd really appreciate any help that I can get. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iromarket (talkcontribs) 14:15, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

A discussion

A discussion on Should WikiProjects get prior approval of other WikiProjects (Descendant or Related or any ) to tag articles that overlaps their scope ? is open here . We welcome you to participate and give your valuable opinions. You are receiving this note as you are a member of WikiProject Council -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 12:27, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Animal Crossing/to do

A tag has been placed on Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Animal Crossing/to do, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing no content to the reader. Please note that external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article don't count as content. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Pokemon Red Blue Glitch City

Hi, you voted a while ago in favour of some mention of Glitch City in the Pokemon Red/Blue article. Unfortunately, despite admin saying a Glitch section would be ok, the main editor of the page is turning it into a war, constantly deleting it despite sources and Pokemon-culture relevance. If you have an interest in keeping this kind of interesting information in wikipedia, please come over to Pokemone Red and Blue and help get the small Glitches section reinstated. Regards, MKULTRA333 (talk) 19:51, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Please Adopt Me.

I'm new to Wikipedia, and I have a few scattered question about this and that. And I was wondering if you could take some time to talk to me for a bit.

Thank you

That's very much appreciated, cheers :-) Dbam Talk/Contributions 20:55, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Isle O Hags.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Isle O Hags.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:02, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

need basic help

hello,

I need basic help to set up a simple page for a middle-size music festival taking place in Copenhagen - Denmark.

I am the director of the festival - I have tried to make a simple and neutral description of the event.

The festival is quite popular with over 30.000 guests this year, so I hope we meet the "notability" requirements.

Of course, our intention is that the article on the festival should evolve on its own in the future, but I just would like to make sure the event is listed on Wikipedia since we have started to receive quite a few international guests who might want to have a Wiki description of the festival before coming over here from abroad.

Thanks very much for any help you can provide.

my work email is "tdf (a) nusnus dk" in wikipedia I am registered with my personal email "tdf (a) fleurquin net" both can be used (but I use work email more often).

All the very best, thanks again.

Thanks for uploading Image:GTAIV Rotterdam Tower.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Help for inexperienced editor

Hi Alex,

I started one Stub in 2005 that has quite a bit of activity (Raw Feeding) and have expanded and contributed to several others. I would like to claim those early entries to my user account -- which I can't log into because I forgot my password and was silly not to include an email address.

I want to come out of the shadows and get a little more involved. Can you help me with some of these basics?

Thanks for your help.

You've uploaded Image:Rockstarnorth.png, and indicated that it's used under Wikipedia's rules for non-free images. However, it's not presently used in any articles. Hello I have proposed that WP:Sims to be moved to a task force in WP:VG under there Inactive project cleanup Task force. Since WP:Sims has been tagged inactive. There is a discussion on it, here.Hereford 17:00, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I'm trying to clear up the backlog at WP:RM. I see that you objected in the past to the move currently being discussed at Talk:Grand Theft Auto Advance#Requested move. Could you please comment there to help us reach a consensus? Thank you.--Aervanath lives in the Orphanage 03:39, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

GTA IV characters

Good job on starting to slim down the GTA IV characters article. It's really getting out of control and it seems like people are adding new content constantly. Bill (talk|contribs) 13:31, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:GTAIV-TLAD.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:GTAIV-TLAD.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 09:19, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Re Spore

The problem with this statement: [1] while verifiable is that it will always be verifiable even if it changes, and even if its later reported that other games are the most pirated in history (or even 2008)--Crossmr (talk) 22:09, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Yeah I can see what you mean now. It could be changed later on ("second most pirated..." etc.) or could be changed to "currently the most pirated in history" or "as of 2008" or "...was ranked the most pirated game of 2008, having been downloaded over 1,700,000 times, making it the most pirated video game in history at this point in time". Eh, we can think of something. You can go ahead and change/remove it if you want of course. I just feel it's worth mentioning somehow, as obviously "most pirated game of 2008" and "of all time" are quite different. --.:Alex:. 22:14, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
