Willy Wist/A Film Unfinished
Hi, as the page about the film is quite short at the moment, I would propose that any additions about the cameraman could be incorporated there, considering his probable lack of notability outside of the film. I have therefore redirected this article to A Film Unfinished. A short article about the director of the 2010 film would be useful, however. Bob talk 14:42, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
CPAC
Thanks. I couldnt find my changes at first, but then I saw you redirected it. Makes sense as neither article had much. I reorganized the main article a little bit to make it look better. I think we need to figure out a way to make it less listy than it is. It looks a bit icky having 2005, 2006, 2007, etc. And perhaps the funniest part is that I hate CPAC!--Metallurgist (talk) 21:35, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
- Please note that copying and pasting content is not the appropriate way to move a page to a new title; the problem is that entire edit history of the Canadian television channel's article was still buried at the CPAC title.
- I'm not opposed to moving the Canadian channel to another title (although since Wikipedia's rules require that we use a thing's most common name rather than obscure alternate names, the more correct new title would be CPAC (TV channel) since nobody but nobody ever actually calls it "Cable Public Affairs Channel"). But the article has to be moved through the move process, not by manually cutting and pasting the text from one edit window to another — and then, on top of that, there are several hundred existing links to the CPAC title that have to be changed to point to the new title instead.
- Accordingly, I have to revert your change in order to repair the article's edit history. You can propose an article move at WP:RM if you'd like, but please don't move it yourself unless you're prepared to learn all the aspects of how to move an article properly and thoroughly, including how to correct all the broken links. I am willing to talk you through how to do that if you'd like — but there are a lot of links to be updated, so you really might be better off just letting other people handle it :-) Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 05:51, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
Hello Andrew, I've moved CPAC channel page to CPAC (TV channel), as CPAC isn't a television network. Please use this to avoid redirects. Thanks. :D єmarsee • Speak up! 17:37, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Cool. I'm working on redirecting the links to CPAC so I'll start using the new link. I believe that the talk page said it was a network so I went with that, but there's less controversy over calling it a TV channel.
Fair use rationale for File:CPAC-2011-Website-header.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:CPAC-2011-Website-header.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk 02:45, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Dwell time
You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.
Thank you.
A tag has been placed on Dwell time, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article that does not provide sufficient context to identify its subject. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hang on}}
to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Velella Velella Talk 17:58, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Sorry it took me so long, I removed the tag from Lisa De Pasquale after looking over it again, don't really see why I put it there in the first place. Julianmh (talk) 21:21, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

CPAC attendance update
Hello, Andrew. Is it possible for you to update your chart of CPAC attendance? Also, where did the 10,000 number come from for 2010? I looked at the backup spreadsheet but there's no source for the 10,000. Thank you for putting the chart together! --Kenatipo speak! 16:20, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
Adding stub templates
Hi, when you add stub templates to an article, please don't substitute them (as you did here and here). More importantly, please don't copy the contents of the template page (as you did here), because that brings in a lot of code which is inappropriate for the article, such as the template's interlanguage links. Additionally, please note that stub templates should be placed after the categories, not at the top, per WP:FOOTERS. Thanks. --Redrose64 (talk) 14:04, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

Notice of Dispute resolution discussion
Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding a content dispute in which you may have been involved. Content disputes can hold up article development, therefore we request your participation in the discussion to help find a resolution. The thread is "Frank L. VanderSloot". Thank you! Request for comment
A discussion has been opened at Wikipedia:No_original_research/Noticeboard#Frank_L._VanderSloot, where all discussion should take place.
The questions are:
- Based on the claim of Synthesis, should the original version or the revised version of the LGBT Section be used in the article from henceforth—of course with the ability to edit it as necessary?
- Because the original "LGBT issues" Section adversely comments on a Living Person, should that section be immediately replaced with the revised section—of course with the ability to edit it as necessary?
- Should the Sources identified as faulty or not germane be eliminated from the list of References?

Hi Andrewman327! On Centrale-Supélec Career Fair and several other articles, I have reverted your addition of wikify tag, which has been deprecated in favor of more specific maintenance templates. Hey Andrew
I appreciate you cleaning up my newly split pages with AWB. Gnomes don't get enough recognition. The Toolserver ref generator automatically makes years "dates", and I know that "year" is preferred. Thanks for that. However... would you be able to wait an hour or so before you start tagging new pages? I was splitting a series of articles from a broader list, then changed that list into links to those pages. During that time they were all tagged as orphans and I now have to untag them all. I'm about to upload some more pages, THEN link to them from articles, and I don't want to have to do this again. Give new pages a few hours, at least, to be linked into the rest of the encyclopedia. Thanks, PhnomPencil (✉) 05:27, 11 December 2012 (UTC) Hello. You have a new message at PhnomPencil's talk page.

Hello! I wanted to let you know that I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Rebberg, which you proposed for deletion. I am leaving this message here to notify you about it. I have edited it so that it is now a valid two item disambiguation page. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to it. Thank you for reviewing Snow Treasure! However, I'm a little confused about what it means for an article to be reviewed. I'm still waiting for its importance to be rated, but I see that wasn't changed. So what did you do? Thank you again, Jakob 00:10, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- You're very welcome. Whenever anybody creates a new page, someone has to examine it to make sure that it meets Wikipedia's standards. My review flagged your page as one that is of high enough quality to remain on the site. Andrew (talk) 05:55, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Hello! Regrettably I wasn't aware that Rehberg (disambiguation) already existed, because I started from the German article which already existed and attached the new English article to it. The dilemma is that now both in French and German as well as in English two articles exist. In my opinion it may be preferable to unite all of them to only one article in each language. By the way, a section about the mountain and suburb Rebberg already exists in the French article about Biel/Bienne which is why the reference to it was included.
As far as Rebberg (Mulhouse) is concerned, the website of the city itself could in my opinion be regarded as a trustworthy and reliable source and, as it is a mountain and a suburb, one can walk about and see for oneself. Moreover, the tourist office offers guided walks.

"cleaning up randomly selected articles"
Please don't dirty up a randomly selected disambiguation page like American Community School by adding inappropriate {{orphan}} and {[tl|stub}} tags (neither of which is ever appropriate on a dab page: they should all have few or no incoming links, and dab pages are never called stubs). Thanks. PamD 18:47, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

Andrew, thanks for your comment. I am new to posting on Wikipedia. The Nightwatch page is quite preliminary and will be expanded. Appealing the decision for Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/East Turkistan Government in Exile
Hello, I had submitted a page for the East Turkistan Government in Exile to be created, however the proposal was recently rejected. There are numerous pages of various government in exiles in wikipedia, and I feel that East Turkistan Government in Exile should not be an exception. All the references have been cited and match the content of the page. Would you mind looking over the page and inform me of the improvements that should be made to have the page approved? Thank you for your time. Tewpiq (talk) 08:18, 06 January 2013 (UTC)

I performed some research into the issue and found the original discussion and justification here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/East Turkistan Government in Exile. Howdy Andrew
First of all thank you for taking the time to review the article I submitted. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Washington_Area_Secular_Humanists
As I understand it, editing is a volunteer effort.
Regarding that I article I was rather baffled at the reason given for its decision to be declined. This submission's references do not adequately evidence the subject's notability—
The majority of the references I cited were from well known magazines i.e. Time, Discover, & The Atlantic. The periodicals I cited were nationally known i.e. Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, USA Today or for that matter, internationally known such as The Guardian. Each of these sources who are indeed independent media organizations have covered events that were either sponsored, founded, or co-founded by the Washington Area Secular Humanists - the subject of the submitted article. Furthermore these events were covered in multiple instances by these organizations as well as other news organizations cited in the article.
As I understand it from the Wikipedia Notability page Wikipedia:CORP Which I have read over several times
A company, corporation, organization, school, team, religion, group, product, or service is notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in secondary sources. Such sources must be reliable, and independent of the subject. A single independent source is almost never sufficient for demonstrating the notability of an organization.
as well as the Editing Golden Rule page
Articles require significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject.
I believe I have satisfied that. In addition, these media organizations due to their prestige would not have spent their own time covering events that they themselves did not think of as notable.
What specific instances do you feel were the reasons for rejection? If these specific instances are corrected then is the article acceptable? I look forward to your answer on these questions so that I may get this article published according to Wikipedia's high standards.
Respectfully,
PhillipCK1 — Preceding unsigned comment added by PhillipCK1 (talk • contribs) 02:16, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
Dummy edits
Please review Your use of AWB is doing things like this and this, which are pointless dummy edits. Please review your settings and stop making such changes in the future. If you need to respond, please inform me on my talk. Thanks. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 08:14, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- It's an honor to meet you, even if it's because of my error. My approach to AWB is usually "Do no harm", meaning I make sure my edits are not going to negatively affect an article (e.g. changing "S&P 500" to "Sand 500"). I forgot to make sure they were not pointless edits. I have instructed AWB to skip articles where it only makes whitespace changes and will keep an eye out moving forward. Andrew327 08:48, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- Excellent I know that I've made my share of pointless and mistaken edits before. E.g.: Re-reading what I wrote above, I should have been more informative and less bossy. Anyway, onwards and upwards! —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 09:00, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
Carol Sudhalter
Thanks man, for declining the article once more. I guess it would not impress you if I listed a whole bunch of existing articles on musicians who are clearly less noteworthy, judged from the information and references provided. Carol (yes, she is a friend of mine) may not have released her recordings on any major label. But she has been written up in two very renowned books on Jazz and the proper references are provided now. Drop Carol's name to any Jazz musician in NYC and he/she will know her. She may not have had an international and commercial breakthrough but her decade-long contributions to and importance for the NY Jazz scene can hardly be disputed. So are you really saying she ist not noteworthy to be listed on Wikipedia or is it a formal or language or whatever kind of thing of my writing? You noticed that I am not a native speaker of the English language. Please give me some useful feedback on how I get this article online. Josmarlangner (talk) 10:23, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Rejecting the Potty Dance article
I respectfully disagree with your decision to reject the Potty Dance article that I wrote. I would think that an article by two doctors published in American Family Physician that specifically refers to motions to ward off defecation as the "potty dance," plus a television show (Mythbusters) devoted to figuring out if it's effective, would be enough. Moreover, I have heard the term used since I was a child in the 1970s. I know that's not a verifiable source, but it's true. I wrote the article because a friend on Facebook mentioned that his child had done the potty dance. I was curious about the dance and wanted to learn more about it. So, I went to the place I always go when seeking information: Wikipedia. Unfortunately, there was no article on the dance (there should be), so I wrote one. If I have the time, I will look for more sources and resubmit. If you had approved the article, I would have felt more inclined to spend time sprucing it up. The fact is, though, that I'm not sure how much time I'll set aside working on the article since it might simply be rejected again (in which case my time will have been wasted). — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChicagoDilettante (talk • contribs) 17:08, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
Mike Angelo & the Idols
Hello. I would think this group would be considered notable for the following reasons:
1. It was mentioned in Rolling Stone's Year in Review (1985). 2. Mentioned in four other articles, cited. 3. Three former members have been signed to major labels: Jimmy Dougherty, with two different acts, Alias on Mercury Records and the Allen Collins Band on MCA; John Philip (Kurzweg), solo artist on Atlantic; and Ken Nasta with Royal Trux on Virgin. 4. Kurzweg went on to produce four albums for multiplatinum act Creed.
Moreover, the band's signature song was covered by Rowdy Roddy Piper on the Wrestling Album, which sold 400,000 copies, and its own version of the song got airplay on several stations.
Thanks for your consideration. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fitzrite (talk • contribs) 21:33, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

AFC Submissions and context.
Hiyas there Andrew,
I received a nudge from a user on the #wikipedia-en-help IRC help channel asking help with a review you made. I had a look at this review and a few others you declined based on the article lacking context, and i think you are "insufficient context" decline somewhat to strictly. Insufficient context is really only used when an article is written in such a way that there is little to no clue what it is even about. For example, a single article stating "selenium tetra-azide is a yellow solid like atellurium compound. Condensing selenium tetrafluoride with trimethylsilyl azide at -196 °C stabilized it" would be a piece virtually no-one could understand unless they happened to have quite a bit of surrounding knowledge regarding the topic.
Longer article's such as this one actually give more then enough context to the reader (Or at least offer plenty in the rest of the article). In these and similar cases the context template shouldn't be used as a decline reason. Even if the article is unclear, it is often better to write a simple message for the editor - either as a comment on the review page or as a note on their talk page. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 20:08, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
Polari Magazine
I was just wondering if you could clarify what would be involved in citing more reputable sources. The British Library, the BBC associate PRI and the University of Lancaster are all cited in support of statements - the British Library citation supports inclusion in its web archiving process, PRI supports the use of Polari Magazine as a authority in the reclaiming of the lexicon Polari, and Lancaster cites the leading authority in the Polari lexicon as well as his support for the magazine. I can't see how I could do better than the first one, and so I guess I am missing something. Thanks. 2ndstararts (talk) 10:02, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
The article DNF (racing) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- WP:DICDEF. Belongs in Wiktionary, not here.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. The Bushranger One ping only 02:16, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Goans in science and technology
Hello Andrewman327. You have added a Persondata template and Defaultsort template with the sort key 'technology, Goans in science and' to the article Goans in science and technology twice using AWB. Obviously, you have done it in good faith and it appears there has been some oversight on your part. We cannot have a Persondata template in this article as it is not about a single person and 'Goans in science and technology' is not the name of a person. The Discoverer (talk) 07:17, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

rejection of article - Asterisk Financial
Hello, Just got your note on rejection of the latest resubmission: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Asterisk_Financial_Inc.
Just wondering what constitutes "a range of independent, reliable, published sources"? I have included five independent sources, so that the warning against limiting cites to "materials produced by the creator of the subject" is a bit baffling. Can you please explain?
I will edit it again, bearing in mind the admonition to come from a neutral point of view, which I have endeavored to do.
Thanks for your input.

Re: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Asterisk_Financial_Inc.
Can you also elaborate on your comment that it "reads more like an advertisement"? I really tried to stick to the facts and not color it in any way. The same could probably be said about thousands of Wiki articles about companies.
Thanks again.

Many thanks for flagging this up, been meaning to do this for (literally) years! One problem with discussing historical events is that good sources tend to be in hard copy, or hidden in proprietary archives available only for purchase or behind a pay wall. I know that major periodicals such as Motor Sport covered this event in depth at the time, and it certainly received attention in major national newspapers. However, actually divining the content of this material and its correct citation is difficult without forking out for the archival access. Nevertheless, I have managed to track down a few good sources and have added these, along with the online sources for the race results. I hope that meets your approval? Bye for now. The Cardiometabolic Syndrome: Global Trends article
Can you elaborate why you believe my article should be merged into the article titled "Epidemiology of Obesity"? If these two articles are to be combined, "Epidemiology of Obesity" should be placed in my article, as obesity is a component of the cardiometabolic syndrome [also known as metabolic syndrome (MS)]. Please note that one may suffer from the MS without being obese. I'll keep in mind the next time that I am putting in a lot of edits at once. Oh, the next time you use AutoEd, you might want to hit Preview before you hit Save. The reason I mention this is that some of your last fixes broke the article, just take a look at all the Error messages and redlinks in your last edit (AutoEd seemed to have trouble comprehending the style of referencing used in the 'Bath School disaster' article.) - After consulting Wikipedia's Manual of Style, I'm not sure whether or not changing the article title would be appropriate. I'll seek an outside opinion. Elliott Ward
Hello Andrewman327, I wanted to let you know that I deleted the disambiguation page you created at Elliott Ward, and moved the article about the English footballer back to that title. (Also, by the way, we use "athlete" to refer to competitors in athletics, a discipline including track and field and some other running sports, not footballers or competitors in other sports.) A disambiguation page is used to assist readers when there are two (or more) topics that might be assigned to the same title. In this case, it is simply impossible that anyone would expect an article about Elliott Ward Cheney, Jr. to be titled simply "Elliott Ward". --R'n'B (call me Russ) 21:52, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
==== Elliott Ward Cheney, Jr.
When I do a Wikipedia search for "Ward Cheney" (which is the name Professor Cheney has always gone by), I only get a "Ward Cheney" from the early 1800's and nothing about Elliott Ward Cheney, Jr.
Is it possible to fix the search so it finds both Ward Cheney?
I wish that we had given this page the title "Ward Cheney (mathematician)" rather than his full name, which he never used!!

Re: jackdirks Most Recent Edit
In reply to your removal of my your recent contributions to The Perfect Cocktail because it didn't appear constructive:
Original post stated Marshall's tattoo said "TMNT" and linked to Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles. I removed that comment because on the Netflix version of the episode it is clear that the tattoo says "THUG". It could be in reference to Gangsta_rap or the late recording artist Tupac_Shakur but I didn't want to make an incorrect assumption therefore I did not post a reference. Regardless, the original "TMNT" tattoo post was incorrect. I am ok with removing the entire tattoo item. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jackdirks (talk • contribs) 18:15, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

Murdoch Mysteries
You wanted to talk, okay then.
First of, why keep this so called "Series Overview" when all it does is list season premiere/finale dates, along with DVD release dates?
The list of episode is further down the page and the DVDs are listed under the main article for this show. I would rather see someone put a proper series overview, though we don't really need one, since there is a brief summary at the top of the episode page.
Also, why delete future episode titles, when I have given reference as proof? 70.26.184.237 (talk) 04:29, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

Edits with empty persondata
Edits such as Bartolomea Riccoboni, Carl Dixon and Bill Ainslie, you need to add info to NAME and SHORT DESCRIPTION parameters in persondata as they are required. Also, DEFUALTSORT is a required parameter on biographies. In Bill Ainslie's case, you added Category:Living people when the person was dead and didn't add the category to the living Carl Dixon's article. Failure to add NAME, SHORT DESCRIPTION and Category:Living people would have put the article into tracking categories. Adding Category:Living people to a dead person would have done the same. This causes more work on people than what you were trying to fix. Please add required parameters if you are adding persondata. Bgwhite (talk) 07:30, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

Resubmitting Breakfast Serials, Inc., for consideration
Hello, Andrew,
Thank you for reviewing my proposed article on Breakfast Serials, Inc. This serialized fiction, published for many years as a part of Newspapers in Education, had a circulation of 33,000,000 readers. I have added PDFs of tear sheets from the newspapers in which articles about Breakfast Serials were originally published. For those teachers, students, and publishers who fondly remember this serialized reading experience, and because it's important for today's educators considering serialized fiction and nonfiction, we hope you will reconsider approving this article now that the major newspaper referencing has been added.

Hi Andrew, I Need HELP re http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Hill-George/sandbox
The original article was deleted. An amended version for wiki editors to suggest edits comments changes is in my sandbox.
I am a chef and do not quiet understand how this all works, only know that I need help from an couple of experts.
The deleting administrator suggested that I place the article in my sandbox and request help from a couple of Wikipedians.
The reasons for the delete: Insufficient evidence provided to establish notability or reliability Article was seen as a conflict of interest
I have boxes of independent print media mainly Industry newspapers, magazines, and articles, certificates, medals that can verify the content of the article as factual, reliable and my notability within the sphere of the Hospitality and Tourism Industry. Notability may be easily established however 90% in print media form.
I have the dilemma of being a chef in the field of “cookery education” with substantial notability within the Tourism and Hospitality Industry Australia wide, demonstrated by (among other aspects) national awards, however having not owned a hi profile restaurant or being on Television and not appearing regularly in newspapers or TV shows therefore not much evidence on the web was interpreted by wiki editors as shallow / narrow notability.
I can provide references, copies of articles certificates etc. How do I establish this type - level of notability to Wikipedia editors?
This is not an attempt to self promote only a historical view of a retired educator. I realise self adding an article is discouraged however in rare cases permitted and chefs are not computer people.
How then do I avoid “conflict of interest”. The article is not promotional as it was limited to a synopsis of factual, incontestable events that have a historical affect on the commercial cookery industry in Australia.
I would be very grateful for a wiki expert to assist with edits/comments. Culinary Regards George Hill National Awards of Excellence: F.S.A.A. - NAFES - AFMA Industry acknowledgements: Pioneer. Les Toques Blanches - Black Hat. A.C.F. Hill-George (talk) 21:43, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
Sexism is sexist
My edit to the One Billion Rising page pointing out that denying participation of an entire sex in an anti-sexism campaign has been deleted as 'vandalism', not reality. Why? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.200.181.204 (talk) 18:15, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
- I'm always happy to explain my edits. The concept that you were discussing was not inherently bad, but you added it in a way that expressed a strong point of view and did not cite any reliable sources, which is why I reverted it and issued a warning. If you find a source that addresses the exclusion of men from the project, you are encouraged to include it in a neutral way. The problem is that it appears that men are participating in the events, as evidenced by articles with headlines like, "One Billion Rising: Men, women dance, sing to wake up nation against sexual violence", or the movement's founder describing it as "a call for the one billion women and all the men who love them to walk out of their jobs, schools, offices, homes on Feb 14, 2013 and strike, rise and dance!". I'm happy to answer any questions that you have, and if you would like help finding sources, the Talk page of a given article is the best place to start. Andrew327 18:30, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Starship9000 and Simple English Wikipedia
I'm not sure that advising this young user to start editing on Simple Wikipedia is a good idea. I've edited there on off, and their policies and rules are similar to ours, although more simply expressed. More importantly, being able to write in Simple English requires a very high ability to understand and write complex standard English and fairly advanced discourse skills. It's actually harder to write in Simple English successfully than it is to write in standard English. Just a thought. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 17:01, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
- I agree that it's not a real solution. I have some lingering faith that the editor might want to contribute but can't figure out our policies. Unfortunately he might be beyond the community's ability to fix and I honestly see this situation heading to an eventual block. Andrew327 19:56, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
- I now edit the simple english wikipedia. In fact, I create articles on roller coaster and edit articles so yes I actually do edit it. I created a page about Steel Dragon 2000, the worlds longest roller coaster. Now I edit the Simple English Wikipedia along with this English Wikipedia. --Starship9000 (talk) 23:36, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
- I have to caution you against diving into editing there or here without first understanding the rules. Simple's rules are very similar to ours, but a bit easier to understand. I recommend not editing further until you have actually read their rules. Remember that we are all volunteers who do this stuff in our (often limited) free time. You have a potential of becoming a good editor, but you need to read the rules first. Andrew327 23:44, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Vandalism
Andrew, hi, you seem to pride yourself on removing edits, but I pride myself on accuracy and common sense. If wikipedia publishes nonsense, I feel it my duty to annotate this as such. I see this as CONSTRUCTIVE rather than what you label it as on 'my' talk page (my IP..... could be anyone ... I think there is a privacy issue btw but let's leave that for the admins ...) you think it's unconstructive to annotate rubbish and point it out for what it is? Racist, sexist claptrap wrapped up and decorated as an encyclopedia remains bullshit imho. Please defend yourself. 119.18.3.246

Re Judi Bari
You put some nice touches in there in your rewrite. When (prior to you) I rewrote the article to make it more neutral, I thought I had managed to wrestle it into at least a semi-chronological order. Believe it or don't, but my rewrite cut the verbiage about the bombing in about half from what I found.
At any rate, if you can find a better organization for the article, feel free. I burnt out on my rewrite; too much research, too much torturous detail...I just got to the point of mushy mindedness, and quit.
Best of luck,Georgejdorner (talk) 00:49, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
Hello Andrew,
This is with reference to your decision to not include the comment on Chittaranjan Park Kali Bari wiki page. I do appreciate your efforts to make the page constructive but like many things in life for example the two sides of a coin, I would think it is a true image if both the positive & negative aspects of a thing are included to give its true picture otherwise it is not in line with the inevitable freedom which is assoscaited iwth Internet. Having said that, I must confess that my language might have sounded negative but I do want to educate readers about the real natyre of the place. So I would leave it to you to modify the language to include this in the wiki.

List of iconic dresses
An IP apparently deleted the PROD. I don't see why the list is subjective or unsourced: the sources are in the article themselves, the notability self-evident from the existence of the articles themselves, surely? I made it just by searching "iconic dresses" in the search bar, not randomly deciding what is or isn't iconic. --occono (talk) 14:49, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
- Perhaps the wording of "iconic" could be changed to something less subjective, like List of notable dresses? Andrew327 19:21, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
- The massive overhaul of that list has been impressive and I am very happy with it now. Andrew327 15:43, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
Persondata and defaultsort
I've asked you before. Please stop adding Persondata without adding the required parameters such as you did here and here. You are doing worthless edits as the article now goes into three tracking categories and other editors have to fix your edit. You are causing more work than you are solving.
Also, you are making insignificant and inconsequential edits, such as here, here and here. This is forbidden by AWB rules. Bgwhite (talk) 05:53, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not exactly sure who Bgwhite is, except he has a very fancy User Page, to believe he has some authority to order other editors around (which he doesn't). If Andrewman327 feels like inserting a hard space in order to keep a phrase from splitting at the end of a line, then of course AM327 has a perfect right to do so. When any improvement is made to WP, it is hardly "insignificant and inconsequential," and for another editor to take the time to say so in just those ill-thought-out words does not seem helpful to the project. GeorgeLouis (talk) 16:59, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry GeorgeLouis, but you are wrong.
- I've asked Andrewman to stop before. They never replied and keep on doing the samething.
- AWB rules state, "Do not make insignificant or inconsequential edits. An edit that has no noticeable effect on the rendered page is generally considered an insignificant edit." Editors have lost AWB privileges for doing exactly what Andrewman is doing.
- I'm not ordering. Andrewman will lose AWB privileges if they continue, I'm trying to stop that. It also creates a black eye for all AWB users as this is a constant battle we face.
- Failure to add required parameters, not only is it wrong, but ends up creating more work for other people.
- Bgwhite (talk) 17:42, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
- I apologize for not including parameters. Like my user page says, I'm always willing to discuss my edits and I appreciate your taking the time to do so with me. Do you have a link to the appropriate section of the MOS for the required parameters? I thought that I have been adding them correctly per your last message, but I haven't been able to find the proper policy. I've been skipping PersonData 90% of the time when it is suggested since your last post but I can up that to 100%. I've now set AWB to skip genfixes, which should address the other problem. I disagree with your view that NBSPs do not have a "noticeable effect on the rendered page" per one of your examples. They are useful for readability per WP:LINEBREAK, which also shows an example of their effect on a rendered page. If there is a reason that they should not be used then I'll stop hand-coding them too.
- Sorry GeorgeLouis, but you are wrong.
- Pending your response, I'll put AWB in "Skip if not typo found" mode, since that's by far the biggest reason I use the program. Andrew327 18:07, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
- WP:PERSONDATA states that ALTERNATIVE NAMES is the only optional parameter. Category:Persondata templates without name parameter and Category:Persondata templates without short description parameter are two of the tracking categories. "Persondata templates without name parameter" was empty two weeks ago until an editor decided to add mostly empty Persondata. Somebody will have to do the work again to clear out the tracking category.
- DEFAULTSORT is required for every person. If you are unsure what the DEFAULTSORT should be, then skipping it is an option.
- Hard line breaking is not required, but only recommended per MOS:NBSP. It is also dependent on the situation. Right at the beginning of a paragraph it is useless as the line won't break there. If that was the only thing being done in an article, then hand coding it would be the best option.
- Do not set AWB to skip genfixes. There are perfectly fine fixes found in genfixes. If you are only adding/deleting white space, then skip. Only changing em-dashes to en-dashes, then skip. It comes down to your best judgement. Bgwhite (talk) 03:19, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Please don't automatically move interlanguage links
Hello Andrew, I know you mean well, but this edit was unconstructive, because it moved an inline interwiki link out of its context to the bottom of the page, and thus away from the section I was working on. (This was complicated because it also caused an edit conflict, which I had to resolve.) Now, if this had been a true link intended to designate a sister article, that would be the right thing to do. But it was just a normal inline link where I forgot to add the initial colon. That is a common mistake; I would say far more common than the case that someone adds another sister article link – in the middle of the text – to an article that already has a sister article. The best change would have been to just add the colon. Can you please set your AWB runs to do that instead? Thank you! — Sebastian 05:04, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the polite message and sorry about my mistake. I had not seen an interlanguage link used in that way before, i.e. in a <ref> tag without a reference to it being in a foreign language, so I moved it. Looking back I see my mistake. Regarding AutoWikiBrowser, using the {{in use}} tag tells AWB to skip a page entirely or at least flash a warning when a page loads. Andrew327 05:48, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you! Actually, your reply was more polite than my post. And thank you for reminding me of {{in use}}; I used to know that! Mea culpa similiter! — Sebastian 06:23, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
- FYI...
- Interwiki links should not be done like that. Main reason is when an English article does get created, the interwiki link stays and stays and stays. It's amazing how many there are. Ideally a redlink should be created. However, if you still want a interwiki link, then do something like: Landkreis Lauban (de).
- Regular interwiki links are no longer. They are now handled by WP:WIKIDATA. The bots are around 60% done on removing the links, then the only links left will be the problem links and the new ones that will be created by people unfamiliar with Wikidata. AWB won't have its interwiki logic removed for atleast several months. Bgwhite (talk) 07:15, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, I wasn't aware of #1; that is a nice way for doing it, and I'll use that in that article. I'm aware of #2; that article has already been converted, but the un"colonized" interlanguage link overrides the Wikidata entry. That's actually one more reason to watch out before assuming that such a link is meant as a sister article link. — Sebastian 07:43, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you! Actually, your reply was more polite than my post. And thank you for reminding me of {{in use}}; I used to know that! Mea culpa similiter! — Sebastian 06:23, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Gittigidiyor.com, Template:Multiple issues, and newlines
Hi Andrew. I thank you for all your contributions to Wikipedia. I know you always mean well, but there were two things that this edit to the Gittigidiyor.com article could have done better.
1. It added an {{underlinked}} tag. True, the article is indeed underlinked. But as {{Multiple issues/doc}} says: "Consider listing only the most important issues. A lengthy list is often less helpful than a shorter one. Remember that this tag is not intended as a badge of shame." So, I wonder if you might be willing to please remove the {{underlinked}} tag?
2. Some articles have a blank line after each section heading; some don't. Your edit transformed this article into an uncommon outlier: one which had a blank line after the ==References== heading, but none after the ==External links== heading. It would have been better if your edit didn't tamper with the newline. I wonder if you'd be willing to please change the article back into a non-outlier?
But I thank you for all your general work on Wikipedia, including your AWB and anti-vandal work. If it weren't for people like you, Wikipedia might degenerate into a typo-ridden cesspool of fifth-grade one-liner jokes; thanks to people like you, it's a crisp, clean, professional encyclopedia.
Kind regards, Unforgettableid (talk) 18:08, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
- The easiest way to eliminate an Underlinked tag is to add more links, which I have done, so I removed the tag. Line spacing is arbitrary, but the biggest problem with the references section is that it is empty. Perhaps the article should be merged with eBay? Andrew327 18:26, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

recent changes to Aristide and the Endless Revolution page
Hi Andrewman327 - I'm confused as to why you undid my recent edits to the entry for Aristide and the Endless Revolution. There are duplicate sections on this page which I removed (these are 'Background', 'Reception' and 'References'). I'm not entirely sure why these are there or why my removing them is being prevented. - My apologies, what happened is that you deleted a section, which triggered a tag. I use a program called Stiki to patrol suspect changes, and it only showed me the part of the article that was deleted. File permission problem with File:Wheelskate.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Wheelskate.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. Regenerative Science history help needed
Hey Andrewman327, we've got a major travesty here. Dr. Xu's research is being systemically erased by the Chinese government, and by denying the article you're aiding in this conspiracy. I know it sounds crazy, and I'm not trying to bait you here, but check the sources and let me know what you think.
I want to add this book he wrote but I can't find the ISBN number on Chinese sites, even though I have it on the book publisher's site (http://content.karger.com/ProdukteDB/produkte.asp?Aktion=showproducts&searchWhat=books&ProduktNr=229784). The China Daily link is from an archived site, yes, but it's one of the largest publications in the Republic now.
I've also got sources from:
- Medical journals - http://www.medbc.com/annals/review/vol_15/num_3/text/vol15n3p120.asp
- Time magazine, 1990 - http://www.time.com/time/subscriber/article/0,33009,971828,00.html but I don't know how to reference the article and show you what's in it without you being a subscriber
- Patent Office link - http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-adv.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&d=PTXT&S1=6991813.PN.&OS=PN/6991813&RS=PN/6991813
- Article about the nobel prize controversy - http://www.bmj.com/content/345/bmj.e8414/rr/619952
I've tried everything I can think of to correctly source these items. Let me know if you can help.
Thanks, Evan

Fixing Council Rock
Hi Andrew,
Thanks for helping me with the Council Rock page. When I donated to Wikipedia this year, I got sent a video that was pretty cool. It showed school children in Peru creating their own Wikipedia page. So I looked at my school district's page out of curiosity. I found some bias talking about labor relations. The focal points were on a 12 year old strike and a bus driver sickout involving a sub-contracted bus company that was not only not cited, but also had no impact on students in the district. I tried to add some content which fairly showed a balanced view. Unfortunately, I had some issues with the REF tags. I thought I had it fixed, but apparently not. Maybe you can help me create a more balanced and accurate description of the work environment at CRSD.
I tried to add the following content:

Labor Relations
The Council Rock School District enjoys an excellent labor relationship between the administration and staff. Positive negotiations that benefit students have been a hallmark of the district for over a decade. Instances of labor difficulties, prominent in neighboring districts, have been largely absent in this time period. The last major impasse occurred in 2002/2003, when teachers briefly went on strike, delaying the start of the 2002/2003 school year.
Contract Cooperation, 2012
In June 2012, the 853-member Council Rock teachers union (CREA) accepted a three year contract (2012-13 to 2014-15) which included a pay freeze for the first two years and a .5% increase for the third. The 503-member support staff (CRESPA) accepted raises of 0.5%, 1.0% and 1.5% in a three year contract. Superintendant Mark Klein stated, “These two contracts ratified by CREA and CRESPA reflect the kind of trust and cooperation we’ve enjoyed for years in the Council Rock school district.” [1]
$1 Million Concession, 2011
In April 2011, the Council Rock Education Association (CREA), responding to a stagnant economy, agreed to wage concessions in their contracts which saved the district more than $1.1 million. Mariann McKee, president of CREA, and Susan McCarthy, President of the Council Rock Administrator's Association (CRAA), said the changes “…continue to recognize the need to maintain a quality education for the children in Council Rock.” [2]
My additions are cited facts. I'm learning how to edit correctly. Would you please double-check to make sure that I have everything lined up like I should?
Thanks,
Jim
- It's important that the article maintain a neutral point of view and that all content be sourced to reliable sources. There are problems with both areas on the page. Andrew327 21:07, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

Asteroids in Fiction Edit
I've read the book they were talking about, and I was concerned that people who haven't might think the plot synopsis was a little ridiculous. "Yes, really" lets those readers know that "yes", the book "really" was about pregnant hyper-intelligent squid trying to outrun the end of the universe.
- I understand, but those comments are not put in articles. You are welcome to post to a talk page. Andrew327 21:07, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
Hi, I noticed that you prodded this article with "obviously in a foreign language". I'd like to let you know that this might be a bit undue since the page has only been tagged for translation yesterday. The usual procedure is that we allow for new articles in other languages to sit on the list at Pages needing translation for 14 days. If there hasn't been any effort to translate them after two weeks, they will be prodded anyway. So unless you can extend your rationale to something like notability, I'm inclined to remove your recent prod tag in order to give this article more time to be dealt with. De728631 (talk) 23:26, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- There are definite WP:BIO concerns. I was hoping to be able to write the article myself before I decided to PROD it, but I found there are almost no references to him in any language in several scholarly databases and even Google Web Search has limited results. The non-translated article only has one source. The Google Translation states that he played a role in the history of the submarine, but even sources on that subject that I've found make no reference to him. Andrew:327 23:46, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. I have run the source link in the article through Google Translation, and they do credit Ottomar Gern with building the world's first sub in 1776, but I think that whole site doesn't look very reliable. We should leave the prod tag in place. De728631 (talk) 23:56, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for asking before removing, I always appreciate courtesy that goes beyond Wikipedia requirements. Andrew327 00:02, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
- I just checked back at it and found that the article has been translated and substantially expanded with reliably sourced content. Actually a quite interesting biography. De728631 (talk) 15:45, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

That Grammy thing
Yeah I knew someone was going to change it the minute they saw it, I just did as a little laugh, because i don't know what the big deal is when someone famous mocks another famous person and everyone gets so worked up about it. In this case it's two people that not too many people are fond of, myself included. So sorry about that, just did it as a little joke, no harm to anyone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.239.169.133 (talk) 05:11, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
- No hard feelings. It's just that every minute of the day people are making changes like the one that you made and they have to be removed or else the site would devolve into gibberish. If you want to be snarky, you should create an account and be witty on your user page. You seem like a smart person and I think you could make a good editor here. Think about it, and I'd be happy to show you the ropes. Andrew327 05:23, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

Warnings
Don't pile on consecutive warnings if an editor has not edited since the previous warning. Three v4 warnings in a row is pointless and uncivil. Reporting to AIV without any edits after the previous warning is also bad form. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 20:51, 22 March 2013 (UTC)
- I understand, I was just trying to point out that the editor in question was on an active vandalism streak but I should not have posted that many in a row. In the future I will post one warning template then add additional information by hand below it. Andrew327 21:07, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

irish linen memorial/lycia trouton
These pages were both nominated for early deletion when they first appeared in 2008. copy below. Notability of Lycia Trouton [edit]
A tag has been placed on Lycia Trouton requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article. If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines. For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. ←Signed:→Mr. E. Thanks for uploading File:IrishLinenMemorialHandkerchief.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 14:06, 30 April 2009 (UTC) Fair use rationale for File:IrishLinenMemorialHandkerchief.jpg [edit]
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:IrishLinenMemorialHandkerchief.jpg.
Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 23:03, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Sean Collier
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Sean Collier requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 18:32, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

What's your definition of "underlinked"?[10] Malleus Fatuorum 20:40, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
- The article in question only had one Wikilink. Having more Wikilinks improves the integration of an article in the encyclopedia and enables readers to find answers to questions they might have if they have limited experience with a given subject. I added another link to the article as well as explaining that the company was an automobile manufacturer. Please be mindful of adult language in your edits, as anyone over the age of 12 is allowed here. Andrew327 20:52, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
- Oh for Christ's sake, have you ever considered growing up? And as a matter of interest, how does Wikipedia prevent those under the age of 12 from contributing here? (Here's a clue; it doesn't) Malleus Fatuorum 21:30, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
- I am well aware of that. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the occasional admin were even underage. Although I must ask you for civility. Remember that we are both volunteers at a charity working toward the betterment of the project. Andrew327 23:12, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
- Try to remember that you're the one who doesn't have a fucking clue what they're talking about, and then we may begin to understand each other a little better. Malleus Fatuorum 23:14, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
- If I am incorrect about something, please let me know. I believe that wikilinks can improve an article's utility and that adult language should be avoided where possible on Wikipedia, especially when directed at other editors. Andrew327 23:31, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Help
Hi Andrewman327,
I had submitted an article on 'Cullen Investments', which was declined on 17 April 2013. Here's the link for your reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Cullen_Investments
Previously the article was declined on 31 March 2013 due to insufficient references considering which the reference list was updated considerably.
This time the reason for rejection is 'promotional stuff'. I'll be grateful if you can help me with the editing and successful submission of the same article. Additionally it will be good if you can point out a few lines in the article which sounds like promotional stuff.
Thanks

The Shining article - Mythos of the Steven King Universe
Hello Sir, I just want to start out by saying that while I immensely enjoyed your article on The Shining, and was impressed with the detail of said article, I felt it was lacking in regards to the spirit motivation section. You see as an avid Stephen King fan I feel I am qualified to speak on the mechanisms, symbolism, and mythos of the Stephen King Universe. The motivation of the spirits is two fold. One: In this Universe of Stephen King the agents of darkness( or "The Crimson King") are trying to weaken the spiritual solidarity of the family unit(Through Jack, the father and head of the family) to have him kill Danny ( a psychically gifted individual who is neither bound to the light or the dark yet.)who is a "wildcard" in the mythos of the Stephen King Universe. Being a "wildcard" Danny's psychic abilities have the chance of being used for either good or evil. If these spirits succeed in catching Danny's soul he would then be submitted to psychic torture until they broke his will and forced him to use his abilities(or "Shining")to break down the tower(ie The Dark Tower) the tower is the condition of order that binds all dimensions into coherent being on their own planes. Respectfully, Christopher J. Hickey — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.7.185.161 (talk) 04:24, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Edit sum disconnect
This edit sum ws "replaced 'snuck' with 'sneaked' using AWB". I use edit sums as basis for deciding to look at an edit (or not). But when there is no correlation at all, that is a waste of time. Is this what happens when AWB is used? Thanks for explain. Ihardlythinkso (talk) 03:29, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the catch. I used AWB's Google search function to look for articles with the word "snuck". For some reason, many of the results did not actually use that word, and when I performed other edits to that list I forgot to change the edit summary. Apologies, I've set the edit summary to the default for the time being. Andrew327 03:37, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thx for the explain. Ok, Ihardlythinkso (talk) 04:04, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
- You're welcome. I need to figure out why the Google Search feature isn't working properly. Andrew327 18:58, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

New to Wikipedia!
Hello! I'm new to wikipedia and noticed that you were a host in the Teahouse. If it's not too much trouble, would you mind showing me some of the "ropes" when it comes to contributing to the site? I'm eager to help but I'm not sure of how to properly join discussion over an article. I know that the talk page of an article is for discussion, but a lot of the content there seems disjointed and unorganized. I also joined a "task force" by adding my name but I have no idea what that actually means. Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks! Jamodalamo (talk) 03:49, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
- I'd be happy to help! Talk pages can be confusing, but feel free to start a new discussion if you have a question or statement. Joining a taskforce doesn't do anything by itself, but it is a way to show that you care about the work that that taskforce does. What have you been working on recently? Any new questions? Andrew327 18:58, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
AWB
Please take a bit more care when using AWB. This article had everything linked that needs to be linked, and this one had purposely been restored and blanked for deletion review, so shouldn't have any maintenance tags added. AWB suggests maintenence templates that might be needed on articles, but it is the user's resposibility to check whether the suggestions are correct. Phil Bridger (talk) 19:09, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the catch, I had never heard of {{tempundelete}} and was unaware that articles going through delrev are restored but blanked. Although I disagree about the other article; even the most rudimentary stubs can usually support at least two wikilinks. An article about a part of a country should link back to the country's main article, so I added a wikilink to Thailand. Andrew327 19:20, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
- No, Thailand should not be linked per WP:OVERLINK: "the names of major geographic features and locations". Thailand is certainly a major location. And this is not a question of what can usually be supported, but what can specifically be supported by the article in question. We don't base such decisions on numerical formulae. Phil Bridger (talk) 20:22, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
- Good point, I replaced the Wikilink with something more specific. Although I still believe that the vast majority of stubs should be able to have at least two links in order to help readers understand how a given subject relates to other concepts. Andrew327 18:58, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

I've found two problems with your AWB cleanup on my watchlist in the last few minutes :
- You removed {{uncategorised}} from ACG (subculture), though it has no categories. (Stub cat doesn't "count").
- In this edit all you did was change {{dab}} to {{disambiguation}}, and I think that comes within AWB's rule that you should not do an edit consisting only of trivial fixes which don't affect the page as seen by readers but just clutter editors' watchlists.
Please be more careful. Thanks. PamD 22:18, 26 June 2013 (UTC
And more: you labelled Mookie Betts as "stub" and "uncategorised". It was clearly a redirect, though incorrectly formatted (the "#" was missing). Why didn't you just fix it? If you don't understand enough about Wikipedia to recognise this situation, perhaps you shouldn't be trying to "clean up other editors' work. Remember that you are responsible for all your edits, not AWB: you have to actually look at each article and each edit and agree that what a dumb computer programme is suggesting is a useful edit for which you will take responsibility. Please take more care. PamD 08:01, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you for pointing out those errors. I have never blamed a program for edits that I make and I take responsibility. You'll see that I've corrected my errors during recent edits. Andrew327 18:58, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
Hey Andrew, I see you took some flak recently but I wanted to stop by and say thanks for the cleanup on the Roy Perkins article. Jh12 (talk) 09:46, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
- Why thank you, I really appreciate that. Andrew327 18:58, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
California legislators
Despite his claim that the hundreds of California legislator microstubs are "part of a larger project" [11], Aggie88's earlier comments on his talk page [12] [13] make it clear that this "project" is actually an attempt to disrupt Wikipedia to make a point about the notability criteria for politicians. I've already asked him not to do this on his talk page but he deleted my message [14], which is why I'm saying this here, rather than there. Dricherby (talk) 08:37, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
- On the other hand, his more recent comments seem more measured and at least some of the stubs contain a few sentences of information, with appropriate sources. So maybe this isn't as big an issue as I thought it was going to be. Dricherby (talk) 21:49, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the information. I was also wary of the mass article creation at first, but it looks like the articles are being brought into line with policy. Some of them are quite interesting to read. Andrew327 18:58, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
Nomination of Inclined Bed Therapy for deletion
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Inclined Bed Therapy is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Inclined Bed Therapy until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Ochiwar (talk) 21:33, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Pawo Tsuglag Threngwa
I am asking that this article be restored. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_undeletion#Pawo_Tsuglag_Threngwa) Your name appeared in the tag on my account related to the proposal for speedy deletion. The figure is a very important 16th century historian, so I assume the speedy deletion request was in error and will be quickly rectified. Tibetologist (talk) 22:49, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
- My request for speedy deletion had nothing to do with the significance of the article's subject. The only issue I had was that the article did not specify why he was important. I am happy to see that this problem has been fixed and I hope that you continue working to expand and improve the article. Let me know if you would like any assistance with it. Andrew327 18:58, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
I noticed that you added a references list to this article. The references list was included in the navigation template and did not need to be added. The idea being that any tweaks only need to be applied to the template and do not need to be applied to all 26 articles. I further note that you were using AWB, If I had included a suitable comment in the article, would you have seen it? Is there anything else that I could have done to alert you to how I was doing things?
regards Op47 (talk) 22:49, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
- Comments do appear on AWB and are quite useful in general for non-standard layouts. Apologies for the miscue. Andrew327 18:58, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Cleaned up Massachusetts Convention Fandom, Inc article
Hullo, Andrew. I hope/think my rewrite adequately addressed the (well founded) unaddressed maintenance tags. Several acquaintances are also seeing if they can locate additional articles meeting WP:RS and WP:N standards, but my edit is perhaps a good start. Your further comments are welcomed, and thank you for your ongoing work to improve the project. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.88.176.15 (talk) 04:26, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
Hi
Just a question. I see you're a rollbacker. What exactly is it (I know it involves reverting) and how do you adjust your settings to get it? The Big Hoof! (talk) 10:11, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
- It's a way of reverting multiple edits at once in order to fight vandalism. You can learn more at Wikipedia:Rollback. It's open to editors who have proven their ability to follow Wikipedia guidelines and fight vandalism. Once you have more experience on Wikipedia, you can apply to gain the user right. If you are interested in a few months, leave me another message and I'll talk you through the process. Andrew327 18:58, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah thanks. Probably not something I need for the time being anyhow. I see how the Recent Changes updates itself every moment, so refresh never matches the previous page and you and I would highly unlikely be looking at the same revision unless we clicked on it the same time. The problem is identifying vandalism so yes you're right, it is early for me. Thanks for the info. The Big Hoof! (talk) 18:05, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi, new at this. I anonomusly edited Dr Brown's Cel-Ray soda with a note that it was mentioned on a Frank Zappa Album, which is why I looked it up to begin with. :) On the album 'The Mothers Filmore East 1971" there is a bit from 200 motels about a band on the road too long. Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan from the Turtles (known as Phlo and Eddy) play a rock star and a groupie. The discussion is somewhat sexual, and when asked about a previous statement by the groupie regarding using a Yohoo bottle as a sex toy, Volman declares "it's true, sometimes I even dig it with a Dr Brown's cream soda, or Cel-Ray!"
I did the edit on spur of the moment, so I apologize for not knowing my way around.
Hoodwinked!
Hi. I'm the primary editor of Hoodwinked! and just noticed your recent edit to the page. Thanks for catching some of the mistakes that I had made. I was wondering however, why you chose to reorganize some of the references. In instances in which I've grouped multiple references together, I've tried to list them in the same order that the information pertaining to them is given in the article (It seems that I might not have actually done this for the section about the film getting picked up the The Weinstein Company though, and instead grouped the two awn.com references together). If you feel that there is a better method, please let me know, but it isn't clear to me what you were organizing these references by. --Jpcase (talk) 20:11, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
you got it wrong. Snuck is a word, sneaked is not
You appear to be going around changing "snuck" to "sneaked". There is no such word is "sneaked." The dictionary says the pass tense of "sneak" is "snuck". http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/snuck Dream Focus 22:56, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
- sneaked is certainly a word, as is snuck—while the latter is a rare case of the irregularization of a verb, it is now quite well established in North American English. — ˈzɪzɨvə (talk) 00:30, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
In a recent edit, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.
For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author used.
In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. — ˈzɪzɨvə (talk) 00:30, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Reference dates question
Quick question for you. In this edit you standardized two date formats in references. If I remember correctly, the older date format matched the format shown on the actual publication. When I learned to cite stuff (way too long ago) I was taught to match the date format used in the source, for dates of publication. Is there any Wikipedia standard on this, or do we just always use the ISO 8601 date format? Thanks! VQuakr (talk) 20:17, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- Per the Manual of Style, "Dates in article body text should all have the same format". Andrew327 20:22, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- Sure, but these are reference dates not dates in the body of the text. VQuakr (talk) 18:07, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
- The thinking is that readers should have consistency. If someone sees one date format in the body of an article, they'll assume it won't change when they check to see when sources were published. However, I'm the first to admit that it's not a big deal, and I certainly won't complain if you revert my edit. Andrew327 23:40, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

You said I should let you know if any of the articles created by this user that I had tagged for speedy deletion per G5 were contested. Well, I've got one for you: Sergiu Cristian Popovici. I've already appealed to the contesting administrator, but he/she considers the single sentence added by User:Ostasul to be a substantial contribution, so I'm not entirely sure what you can do about it, but if you have any suggestions, I'm all ears. Can you help me?
Hello. I saw your name at the Teahouse and that is why I am asking you for help. I have been editing the article Dance Moms, since their are lots of boxes in the article asking for clean up. Can you look at Dance Moms and tell me if my edits are helping? You can also read the Dance Moms talk page where I have left messages that explain my reverts or addition of content. I also list what I change in the history of tthe article as well. I usually just remove vandalism and do minor edits. Take your time with checking out my work on the Dance Moms page. No rush. Thank you.--BeckiGreen (talk) 00:00, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
- Nice to meet you, I'm always happy to help. Looking at your edits to Dance Moms, it looks like you have been making bold changes in order to improve the article while explaining your actions thoughtfully on the Talk page. Both of those things are very good. One note: you should not make a habit of deleting criticism from your Talk page. Do you have any other questions for me? Andrew327 04:05, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
- I tried to look through my talk page history to see what I removed, but I cannot figure it out. If I did remove something, I didn't mean to break any rules. Did I remove criticism just once? I cannot tell. I won't do it again. There is criticism on my talk page that I have not removed so that is why I cannot figure out what criticism I removed. Thanks for you help and time.--BeckiGreen (talk) 19:51, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Ambrose Channel pilot cable
Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know I am glad to be reviewing the article Ambrose Channel pilot cable you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by GA bot, on behalf of J. Johnson -- J. Hmmm, this bot seems to be anticipating rather muchly, but sure, that's what I would say.
I have reviewed the article, I like it, but I think it needs work. So I have put the review on hold to for improvements. (The bot says for seven days, but I am not so rigid.) Contribution removed
Hi there,
I am kinda new to contributing to Wiki and I was wondering why it was deleted? I tried to show the official Scientology Volunteer Ministers page with all of their Humanitarian programs and I thought it was a perfect fit, as well as relative to the Volunteer Ministers topic. Was I wrong? Any feedback would be helpful.
Thanks so much,

- Welcome, Jim. I was just writing an explanation on your profile when you beat me to it and posted here. We do not allow websites that are overly promotional about a given topic. The exact wording in the policy is "unduly self serving". The links you added were too promotional for an encyclopedia, so I removed them. The rules can be confusing at first, but I hope that you continue editing here and consider creating an account. Andrew327 18:17, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

Recent review of Creation Theatre Company resubmission
Could you possibly be a bit clearer on which elements of the last editor's comments were not addressed. For example, do you still think it reads like an essay, if so, might you have advice on how to improve this? Or does it just need more support for the material? because I have tried to incorporate this with references to the company's website. But before I resubmit, are these references okay, or should I look to sources other than the company for their history? Many thanks, and apologies that I have not sufficiently redressed the issues yet. Thumph3 (talk) 10:31, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- The problems that another reviewer indicated have not been addressed. I refer you to his comment: "Essay-like and full of promotional language too. Encyclopedic writing requires a dry factual style - every opinion must be directly atributed to it's source and referenced. If you remove most of the adjectives you'd be well on the way to solving this." Andrew327 17:09, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

External Links to British Pathe News clips
Dear Andrewman327
I note that you have most of my contribution to Autoland to the Blind Landing Experimental Unit page. That was probably a good move - I didn't do it myself because I felt I would have had to do more research on the other subjects e.g. Calvert Lighting, so I left it sitting rather uncomfortably in Autoland.
Anyway, I thought I would add the external links to the 1958 and 1968 PatheNews clips to the BLEU page, only to find that they no longer work. The material is still there but as it is having used the links you have to put the titles in the Pathe search box. The titles are "Fog won't stop future flying (1958)" and "BOAC VC10 Automatic Landing (1968)". I haven't given up yet but I would be grateful if you can help! Wikipedia seems to "think" I want to create Template pages but nothing was further from my intention.
Kind regards
Roy Easson

Dear Anderman327
British Pathe admit that their indexing system has changed. I have changed the links in the Autoland article, which now work again, and hope to add them to the BLEU article. The clips show quite a contrast from 1958 to 1968.

Moving Vibrio cyclotrophicus
Hi, I noticed that you did the basic cleanup and added the orphan tag to Vibrio cyclotrophicus. When I went looking to find some more information for this stub I discovered that the bacteria is also known as "Vibrio cyclitrophicus" - apparently there was a spelling error in the initial paper. As a result most, but not all, research seems to use the newer "cyclitrophicus" and the article for the main genus has a redlink for this in the species listing. I've added a reference for the naming issue in the article, but as an IP I can't move the article itself. Would it be possible for you to move it and add a redirect to the current name? I'm not sure if this is enough to de-orphan a page but it increases the chance of people finding (and improving) it! Thanks! 118.208.134.201 (talk) 06:45, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
- Done Good catch! I have moved the article to the more common spelling. Andrew327 17:20, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Credit cards on French autoroutes
The article on this topic runs the risk of causing serious inconvenience and embarrassment with its unsupported (and misleadingly broad) statement that "toll booths accept debit cards, credit cards, as well as cash." There is, in fact, at least a genuine question whether the toll booths do, in fact, accept US credit cards, which are virtually always not of the chip-and-pin variety normally used in Europe.
I offered an emendation that might protect travelers with non-accepted credit cards from getting into (and blocking traffic in) inappropriate lanes at toll stations and, perhaps, arriving at a toll station with inadequate euros in cash to pay a substantial amount due.
I regret that this cautionary warning has been removed.
J Humbach 8/20/2013
- I understand your concern, so I changed the sentence to read "toll booths accept multiple payment methods". I only reverted your edit because it made the sentence too lengthy. I certainly meant no offense and I should have better explained myself on your talk page. Andrew327 17:06, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Teneo may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Dear Andrew, I have recently joined Wikipedia's staff of editors, but it seems that I chose a very contentious article to begin suggesting to veteran editors who worked on it that it should be modified. What, in your opinion, is the best way to approach an existing article and suggest that a change be made in it (when applicable), based on scholarly sources? It seems that some editors (at least those whom I've encountered so far) do not approve of modifications being made to their original text, no matter how convincing the sources are! What is your opinion about this, and how is it best to approach the situation in the future? Davidbena (talk) 20:46, 29 August 2013 (UTC) |
- That's a difficult question, and I'm glad that you're asking it. The best first step is to go to the talk page of an article and suggest your desired changes. Use Reliable sources to help explain your point of view. And always be willing to listen to other editors and respect consensus. I'm happy to help further if you have any more questions. Andrew327 20:52, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for this response, Andrew. While discussing issues on Talk pages, I have met up with resistance whenever I brought down a Primary Source in support of my viewpoint. Although editors on Wikipedia should not, as a rule, use Primary Sources, there is still a provision for its use occasionally, as we find in WP:PSTS, which rule states explicitly: "Wikipedia articles should be based on reliable, published secondary sources and, to a lesser extent, on tertiary sources and primary sources." The wording here makes it clear that it is still permissible to use "Primary Sources" if the situation calls for it. Another problem I have found is that editors are not always quick to present a neutral opinion when scholars are divided about a certain issue. Often, the editor writes with a certain bias. Is there anything that you can tell us about this? Davidbena (talk) 21:22, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

Article Feedback Tool update
Hey Andrewman327. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.
We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.
Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 21:48, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Suggestions for proving suffcient notability
Dear Andrew,
I notice that you have raised the question of notability regarding the recently create page The Legend of Wenlong. I was wondering what you suggest would be suffcient, as though there are a large number of secondary sources, the ones I have immedately available are non in English. One primary thought behind creating this as a separate article is that it already exists as a separate article in the Chinese Wikipedia. The need to give more information on this arose from the article Sawndip, where it is mentioned, however to go into detail there would be inappropriate to go into any great detail. Whilst currently only linked to from the article Sawndip the writing system used for some version, it is the type of article that is likely to be linked to by other articles in the future. I agree that catergories need to be added, and will add a few in the next 24 hours. All suggestions on how to get this article up to scratch are much appreciated.Johnkn63 (talk) 04:28, 23 September 2013 (UTC)
