  Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, TFAs will be automatically semi-protected the day before it is on the main page and through the day after.
  • A discussion at WP:VPP about revision deletion and oversight for dead names found that [s]ysops can choose to use revdel if, in their view, it's the right tool for this situation, and they need not default to oversight. But oversight could well be right where there's a particularly high risk to the person. Use your judgment.

  Technical news

  Arbitration

  • The SmallCat dispute case has closed. As part of the final decision, editors participating in XfD have been reminded to be careful about forming local consensus which may or may not reflect the broader community consensus. Regular closers of XfD forums were also encouraged to note when broader community discussion, or changes to policies and guidelines, would be helpful.

  • Tech tip: The "Browse history interactively" banner shown at the top of Special:Diff can be used to easily look through a history, assemble composite diffs, or find out what archive something wound up in.

Thanks for the heads up! ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:20, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
No worries. I flagged uncited three direct quotations in the lede and I was about to tag the "Reception" --> "The Oregonian" subsection as {{undue}} but I didn't think the template message was appropriate here. That subsection is far out of proportion to the rest of the section and the article. I understand The Oregonian is a major source for the article but it shouldn't dominate. Anyway, good luck with the article and your planned GA nom. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 01:40, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
@Baffle gab1978 Thanks! I will fix the lead. Yes, I agree re: The Oregonian. Much appreciated! ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:41, 4 September 2023 (UTC)

WikiCup 2023 September newsletter

Extended content

The fourth round of the competition has finished, with anyone scoring less than 673 points being eliminated. It was a high scoring round with all but one of the contestants who progressed to the final having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were

  •   Epicgenius, with 2173 points topping the scores, gained mainly from a featured article, 38 good articles and 9 DYKs. He was followed by
  •   Sammi Brie, with 1575 points, gained mainly from a featured article, 28 good articles and 50 good article reviews. Close behind was
  •   Thebiguglyalien, with 1535 points mainly gained from a featured article, 15 good articles, 26 good article reviews and lots of bonus points.

Between them during round 4, contestants achieved 12 featured articles, 3 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 126 good articles, 46 DYK entries, 14 ITN entries, 67 featured article candidate reviews and 147 good article reviews. Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them and within 24 hours of the end of the final. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.

I will be standing down as a judge after the end of the contest. I think the Cup encourages productive editors to improve their contributions to Wikipedia and I hope that someone else will step up to take over the running of the Cup. Sturmvogel 66 (talk), and Cwmhiraeth (talk)

Edit summaries

Another Believer. I see you have fallen into the sloppy habit of not leaving proper edit summaries, if you ever did leave edit summaries. While I don't think leaving edit summaries is mandatory, leaving + and - signs indicating you have either added or subtracted textual content from the article isn't really good enough for a profligate article creator, particularly since of the edit changes are relatively large. I would suggest you start using them on a regular basis. I will check back in a couple weeks. If you haven't I'll take you to admin. scope_creepTalk 14:17, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

Women in Green GA Editathon October 2023 - Around the World in 31 Days

Extended content

Hello Another Believer:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2023!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2023, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!

Edits to Baroness Joanna Shields page

Extended content

My name is Laura and I work for Joanna Shields, Baroness Shields, a baron, businessperson, and former British politician. The page about her was recently tagged for COI and advert issues due to some poor edits made years ago. I posted here regarding my desire to address the substance of the tags with a re-write or heavy trims, to remove the promotional content. I was hoping you might be willing to chime in on the proposed trims and/or the suggestion for a rewrite. Let me know. Best regards.~~~~ LauTad89 (talk) 07:58, 25 September 2023 (UTC)

Restaurants

Extended content

Just a quick reminder that Canada and the United States both have their own dedicated country-restaurant-stub templates and categories. So the correct stub tag for a Canadian restaurant is {{Canada-restaurant-stub}}, not separate applications of {{Canada-stub}} and {{restaurant-stub}} as two separate templates, and the correct stub tag for an American restaurant is {{US-restaurant-stub}}, not just {{restaurant-stub}}. Bearcat (talk) 11:53, 26 September 2023 (UTC)

Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 13:43, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
I'm still having to move restaurants out of the plain "Canada stubs" category by correcting the stub tag, so just another reminder that the takeaway from my prior post wasn't supposed to be to just tag restaurants as "Canada-stub" while eliding "restaurant-stub" — it was to specifically use the dedicated "Canada-restaurant-stub". Can you take a look at your run of #IABot with the Vance Monument article? It did something really weird. It "rescued" every citation, not just those identified with problems. (I actually don't think there were any with issues as I had check each one this before submitting for GA review). Some of these are false rescues, with no archive copy created by Wayback because of copyright blocks depiste the archive notice being attatched to the citation. Is this what you expected the bot to do? Seems strange to me. Thanks. Rublamb (talk) 05:24, 5 October 2023 (UTC)

I can't believe there's never been a Seattle Center navbox before now! Great idea.

What do you think of adding the Worlds Fair architect, Minoru Yamasaki? ☆ Bri (talk) 18:50, 13 October 2023 (UTC)

@Bri Thanks! I included all of the entries in Category:Seattle Center, but there might be other other entries worth adding to the template. While I'm not strongly opposed to adding Minoru Yamasaki, I will say the entry is not part of Category:Seattle Center, nor do I see "Seattle Center" in the article's prose, so I'm reluctant to add. BTW, there's a related merge discussion here, if you're interested. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:47, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
The links are not complete ... Yamasaki is linked from Pacific Science Center and Century 21 Exposition. Paul Thiry, who was also an architect, and landscape architect Lawrence Halprin are linked more completely. None of the architects appear to be linked from Seattle Center at present. ☆ Bri (talk) 19:53, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
@Bri I won't revert if you feel strongly about including. Or, you're welcome to start a discussion on the template's talk page. All good!, I just wanted to get the ball rolling on a helpful navbox. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:56, 13 October 2023 (UTC)

50,000 list

Hi, any reason why you stopped adding your name by the many articles you've created? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:17, 29 October 2023 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld I dunno, to make the contributions less about me and more about the goal? I keep getting targeted for my work, especially w/r/t restaurant entries, so I'm less motivated to put my username all over the page. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:42, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
There are a lot of restaurants in Seattle! :-) ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:45, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
@Dr. Blofeld Can you tell that to the editors who seem to think there are only like 5 restaurants in the whole city? :p ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:47, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
