Hi,

I'm new to Wikipedia; hence not into all details. I have created the page "Pinta (yacht)" and see your comments on it. I think I get the high-level idea about the issues, but I'm a little confused why you link to the Talk page, as it is empty. Can you guide me a little more about what I need to do?

Hello, yes sorry the talk page being empty. Those templates automatically link to the article talkpage, but I just haven't got around to adding anything to it yet. Basically, all that is needed is a good copy edit to remove or reword the language that shows Pinta in a favorable light. Because Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, it has to try and remain neutral about the subjects it discusses. We have a policy on this subject which you can see at WP:NPOV. If you could give the article a copy edit to make it more 'neutral' that would be great. Follow the blue links on those 3 templates (on the article) to find out more about writing style on Wikipedia and how to avoid peacock words. Once that is done, the tags can be removed. Hi, I see that you reviewed and approved Template:Anticon. Please note that per the guide Wikipedia:Navigation templates, non-links/unlinked text (a major part of this navbox) do not belong in a navbox.

Unfortunately, this templates creator (seemingly a rotating anonymous IP) has been edit warring this template/the articles which it has been included in. memphisto 10:24, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

It struck me that most of the text linked somewhere? Please note that AfC is not a comprehensive review service -- that would be contrary to the spirit of a free encyclopaedia that anyone can edit. You will find that over 50% of the navbox comprised non-links, including all of the 'Compilations' section. However, a few non-links/red links in a fully populated navbox would be acceptable. JBH Logistics Northwest

I've been busting my butt to make this page work out and now I've been denied 2 times. The first time I could understand why I was denied. Your site is confusing for the average user and I wasn't clear on how to use references. But the second time I spent hours researching how to properly use references and was excited to get it right. Well I was not right, two times in a row. So....if you could explain to me exactly what I did wrong and how to fix it, I would really appreciate it. Hi, the problems with this submission are that 1) it is written like a corporate profile: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a directory site, or venue for any other kind of indiscriminate information. 2) It is promotional in nature, which violates our policy on neutral point of view. 3) Most importantly, it is not clear why this company is any more significant or important that any other company. We can only accept submissions about notable companies. While you have listed 4 sources, it is not clear what those sources have to say about this company. You need rewrite the generic company profile and write something that tells us about this company, its history, and why it is more impotent than other logistics companies -- has it won major awards? Has someone else written about the company in detail, in reliable secondary sources? If so, what did they say? The issue is that you have added info that is controversial and have not linked to a reliable source. Several other editors have asked you to discuss changes that are potentially controversial before making them. Your repeated changes without first reaching agreement with others is being viewed as disruptive. Situations like this are known as edit wars and they are not a good thing. Also, you are leaving edit summaries which suggest you feel you 'own' this article; for example: "Please contact me if you are going to edit this, thanks". Nobody owns Wikipedia pages, an article is a collaborative effort between numerous editors, not just the vision of one person. That's Ok, The MJ article is (or was) a Featured Article. That means that it has been carefully reviewed by a group of experienced editors to make sure everything is accurate and well written. Wikipedia has lots of complicated polices and guidelines which usually seem confusing to new editors. One of the things Wikipedia insist on is that all information is verifiable. That means if you are going to add new information, the community expects you to prove that the information is accurate by adding a citation to a reliable source -- YouTube is not considered a reliable source. Also, with regard to the instruments: A group of editors had a conversation a while ago that decided they would not list any instruments that MJ played because they felt there was not enough evidence to support that information. Because those editors made a consensus before, that means that you should not change this information unless other members of the Wikipedia community agree that you can. Hmmm, not so much to be honest. I preferred the text placement before and I like my username to match my signature. I will try and adjust the color hues to make it stand out more against the image. Also, I sometimes change the image to there are often different backgrounds against my username. The spelling of Userboxen is deliberate. It's a kind of Wikipedia joke. Hi Pol430! I have just received your message on my profile's talk section and noted that you have temporarily removed the article Insecurity Insight. What you may not be aware of is that it's a matter of Wikipedia policy to presume copyright exists, unless it is specifically disclaimed on the source. The web-page http://insecurityinsight.org/history.html has a copyright logo at the bottom which suggests they retain all rights to the text. I appreciate you are telling me that you are connected with this organization, but Wikipedia requires evidence that you are an official representative. The best way to proceed if you wish to retain the history section would be to get the copyright holder to contact an OTRS agent via email. That's correct. Please note that you will not get an instant email response from the OTRS agents. Once the email is sent they will process the request and the OTRS agent will reinstate the article (or they normally do anyway). Please consider the points made by Orange Mike below. Hi, yes there will be a delay, don't worry, once the copyright permission is received the article can be unblanked -- the OTRS agent will probably do this. Sorry for bugging you with this, but the article Insecurity Insight has still not been reverted to the previous version. Given the time and effort I put in here, I'm a bit frustrated (although I understand the copyright issue). I'm afraid I can't help speed things up for you. All the people who answer the emails are volunteers and there is no deadline on Wikipedia. Although, it seems strange that it is taking this long -- it sometimes takes 3-4 days, but it is now 5. If the person from the organization is sure they have sent the email to the correct address you could try contacting Sphilbrick (talk · contribs) who is an OTRS agent that often deals with copyright permissions. Catherine must be the Princess William etc... since, she does not posses the titles in her own right but through her husband.

did you mean "worse" when you wrote "worst" on your Adoption page?

I would have made an edit change but you asked that no one edit the page. I was just reading and noticed you wrote "You can use the green 'AGF' link in cases where the user clearly tried to improve the article, but actually made it worst."

(Somewhere else I noticed you wrote: "Rest assured that as long as you do the right thing, your attacker will come off worst in the long run." I think this is the same mistaken substitution of "worst" for "worse.")

Hi, worst means the same thing as worse. It's an older form of the same word. Traditionally, I have used worst—this is the more common form in my cultural background. Recently, I have tried to substitute it with 'worse', because this is the preferred form in modern usage and in most writing-style guides. GOCE July drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors July 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up Participation: Out of 45 people who signed up this drive, 31 have copy-edited at least one article. Lfstevens continues to carry most of the weight, having edited 360 articles and over a quarter of a million words already. Thanks to all who have participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, will be available early in August here. Progress report: We are once again very close to achieving in our primary goal—removing the oldest three months from the backlog. Only 35 such articles remain at press time. The total backlog currently sits at under 2400 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We are just two articles away from completing all requests made before July 2012 (both are in progress). Page Triage newsletter

Hey all. Some quick but important updates on what we've been up to and what's coming up next :).

The curation toolbar, our Wikimedia-supported twinkle replacement. We're going to be deploying it, along with a pile of bugfixes, to wikipedia on 9 August. After a few days to check it doesn't make anything explode or die, we'll be sticking up a big notice and sending out an additional newsletter inviting people to test it out and give us feedback :). This will be followed by two office hours sessions - one on Tuesday the 14th of August at 19:00 UTC for all us Europeans, and one on Wednesday the 15th at 23:00 UTC for the East Coasters out there :). As always, these will be held in #wikimedia-office; drop me a note if you want to know how to easily get on IRC, or if you aren't able to attend but would like the logs.

New Pages newsletter

Hey all :)

A couple of new things.

First, you'll note that all the project titles have now changed to the Page Curation prefix, rather than having the New Pages Feed prefix. This is because the overarching project name has changed to Page Curation; the feed is still known as New Pages Feed, and the Curation Toolbar is still the Curation Toolbar. Hopefully this will be the last namechange ;p.

On the subject of the Curation Toolbar (nice segue, Oliver!) - it's now deployed on Wikipedia. Just open up any article in the New Pages Feed and it should appear on the right. It's still a beta version - bugs are expected - and we've got a lot more work to do. But if you see something going wrong, or a feature missing, drop me a note or post on the project talkpage and I'll be happy to help :). We'll be holding two office hours sessions to discuss the tool and improvements to it; the first is at 19:00 UTC on 14 August, and the second at 23:00 on the 15th. Hi... you accepted a page I created titled "Hoopla Worldwide" on February 11, 2012 and a user named Tomwsulcer (who also put up a AFB on a another page I created called "Jonathan Hay (publicist)" and he has tagged the article that you accepted with 4 different tags (advert, pov, undue and primary sources). Granted, I have made some changes with this article during the last few months, but still staying within the parameter. Help with editing

Hello Pol430,

I am having some problems getting an article edited to a good standard and unfortunately the editor who has attended to my contribution either deletes my contribution without helpful comment or appears adverserial. I have been very polite in my 'talk' and I have re-re-revisited my contribution, used citations and references to books rather than fan sites. The other editor has been very abrupt and frankly unhelpful. I have no wish to cause a drama but I would like someone else to look at my contribution http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Honda_PC50&oldid=511109048 and to tell me kindly how to put things right.

GOCE mid-drive newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors September 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter Participation: Out of 37 people signed up for this drive so far, 19 have copy-edited at least one article, about the same as the last drive. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, every bit helps; if you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us! Progress report: We're almost on track to meet our targets for the drive. Great work, guys. We have reduced our target group of articles—August, September, and October 2011—by about 44%, and the overall backlog has been reduced by 58 articles so far, to around 2600 articles. The biggest difference between this drive and the previous one is a stronger focus on large articles, so total word counts are still comparable. Adopt-a-user

Hi Pol430. I'm leaving you this message because you have previously been involved as an adopter with Wikipedia's Adopt-a-user program. A clean-up of this program is currently underway, and as part of the process I am trying to find out who is and isn't still interested in remaining an adopter.

If you would prefer not to be part of the adoption program anymore, you need do nothing; when the overhaul of the project is completed your name will be removed from the list of active adopters. However, if you have current adoptees, an active adoption school or an interest in adopting in the near future, then please let us know by signing here.

If you want to remain in the project and can currently take on more adoptees, there is a serious backlog at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user; it would be enormously helpful if you could take on one or two of the users there. Page Curation newsletter

Hey Bellerophon. This will be, if not our final newsletter, one of the final ones :). After months of churning away at this project, our final version (apart from a few tweaks and bugfixes) is now live. Changes between this and the last release include deletion tag logging, a centralised log, and fixes to things like edit summaries.

Guild of Copy Editors September 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up Participation: Out of 41 people who signed up this drive, 28 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing July, August, September and October 2011 from the backlog. This means that, for the first time since the drives began, the backlog is less than a year. At least 677 tagged articles were copy edited, although 365 new ones were added during the month. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2341 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 54 requests outstanding before September 2012 as well as eight of those made in September. Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the August 2012 competition, and prizes will be issued soon. The September 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. Three questions on Alpins method entry

Hello.

I would most appreciate some information or a referral to the correct contact. I have 3 questions on an entry I worked on for the Alpins method of astigmatism correction:

1. Quite a bit of work has been done on the entry since you first accepted it. Is it possible to petition for a rating improvement (from C to B)?

2. Is it possible to petition for an upgrade in the importance scale (from low to medium, maybe) for the entry?

3. Is it possible to change the capitalization of the title page (from "Alpins method..." to "Alpins Method..."?

Page Curation newsletter - closing up!

Hey all :).

We're (very shortly) closing down this development cycle for Page Curation. It's genuinely been a pleasure to talk with you all and build software that is so close to my own heart, and also so effective. The current backlog is 9 days, and I've never seen it that low before.

However! Closing up shop does not mean not making any improvements. First-off, this is your last chance to give us a poke about unresolved bugs or report new ones on the talkpage. If something's going wrong, we want to know about it :). Second, we'll hopefully be taking another pass over the software next year. If you've got ideas for features Page Curation doesn't currently have, stick them here.
