DYK for You're a Big Boy Now (novel)

On 13 November 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article You're a Big Boy Now (novel), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that David Benedictus dedicated his 1963 satirical novel You're a Big Boy Now to "the only girl I've ever loved—wherever they may be"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/You're a Big Boy Now (novel). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, You're a Big Boy Now (novel)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Belle Linsky

the IP editor on Belle Linsky is pretty persistent huh? I am keeping an eye on it. Next revert is your turn, although I imagine it will be deleted or moved by then.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 02:33, 7 February 2019 (UTC)

I asked for semiprotection and it was declined. The all-wise admins who said "no" to that can deal with that rubbish as far as I'm concerned. Coretheapple (talk) 04:15, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
that's funny, I asked to semi protection today as well! They said the IP editor might be adding something useful. Not.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 03:21, 9 February 2019 (UTC)
@ThatMontrealIP: If the article is kept this obvious COI editor is going to be a pest going forward. It is very hard to deal with people using a phone or tablet as this one obviously is, except semiprotection for a time. Coretheapple (talk) 15:15, 9 February 2019 (UTC)
Yes, my thoughts exactly. We can go for semi-protection at that time. ThatMontrealIP (talk) 02:46, 10 February 2019 (UTC)
I asked again, and Oshwah kindly blocked the IP range.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 17:07, 14 February 2019 (UTC)
@ThatMontrealIP: Good! I haven't checked the edits lately, but I will tell you (as per my note on the talk page) that there is some really questionable stuff in that article. Not OR but text that seems to be made up, such as the line about having more Faberge eggs than the Queen, that sort of thing. There is a goodly amount of material on the company in that MacArthur book, and I am trying to get a copy of it. I think that perhaps the solution is to expand the Swingline article and then maybe do a merge. Thanks for your efforts on this. Coretheapple (talk) 21:27, 14 February 2019 (UTC)

Edit revert

I don't understand the reason behind this revert. Can you explain? Abecedare (talk) 23:41, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

Holy shit. I don't recognize that edit. I have changed my password. Holy shit. Coretheapple (talk) 00:26, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
No problem. I assumed that it was just an inadvertent click on the rollback link or something. In case there are other edits you don't recognize and you fear password-hacking, perhaps you can contact a CU to check if those edits were made from your computer/IP or not (not really sure if they can,and are allowed to do that, but can always ask). Abecedare (talk) 00:31, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
The problem is that I wasn't even on that page! I wasn't anywhere near ANI. I wasn't monitoring that or any other discussion on ANI. I am going to see if a CU would be kind enough to ascertain what IP that came from and if it was different from the rest. Coretheapple (talk) 00:33, 2 March 2019 (UTC)

RE: AE

In regards to your comment at AE - diff5 in the request is a !vote in a RfC not on the basis of coverage in sources, but arguing the content (Palestinian violence towards Israel settlers) should be omitted from a main-space article section since "resisting occupation is legitimate".Icewhiz (talk) 15:15, 12 May 2019 (UTC)

OK but I think that replies should go on the AE page. Coretheapple (talk) 16:34, 12 May 2019 (UTC)

Please comment on Talk:Libertarianism

Please comment on the discussion regarding the use of the term "right libertarian" to describe libertarians that do not oppose free markets, and that do not make a clear distinction between laissez-faire capitalism and advocacy of free markets. This discussion can be found on the talk page for the Libertarianism article. The term is primarily used in a derogatory way and by self-described "left-libertarians". The individuals described in that article, and in the poorly-titled right-libertarianism article do not typically identify with the political right - or the political for that matter. In 2018, you offered a statement in a request for arbitration. The Arbitration Committee has now accepted that request for arbitration, and an arbitration case has been opened at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Jytdog. Evidence that you wish the arbitrators to consider should be added to the evidence subpage, at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Jytdog/Evidence. Please add your evidence by March 23, 2020, which is when the evidence phase closes. You can also contribute to the case workshop subpage, Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Jytdog/Workshop. Napoleon Hill

Hi Coretheapple. I'm mixed about the tags on Napoleon Hill. I've updated the talk page so the archives are clearly visible. The discussions are quite a mess. Glancing at the article's references, there are many that look rather poor. Glancing at the article history, I'm seeing very bold edits on the topics that were under dispute when the tags were added. My take on the subject is that Hill was ultimately successful at promoting himself and his book, and his foundation has continued to promote both. I don't think we've found high-quality references suitable for cutting through all that promotion. --Hipal (talk) 03:02, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

Hipal, thanks that's helpful. I'm still not clear on the neutrality issue though. Do you believe the article is too favorable? Unfavorable? Coretheapple (talk) 14:39, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
Too reliant on the promotion from the foundation. --Hipal (talk) 16:31, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
OK. I'll give it another read. Thanks again. btw, if you want to examine an article to reliant on questionable sources, check out Sholam Weiss. Just pardoned by the president, and the article has issues. Coretheapple (talk) 17:46, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Theodore Conrad (criminal), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lakewood High School. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 05:54, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

Twin Parks

One thing that jumps out at me from those building plans published in Slate: the scissor-style fire stairs. That arrangement was commonly used in buildings of that era as an economical way to have two fire stairs in a less voluminous space than one. However, over time it was found that it was hard to build so that smoke in one enclosure did not leak into the other, and they have been discouraged or prohibited for that reason. When I get in the office and look at the Life Safety Code manual, I'll look up a reference. They are also frowned upon for failing to provide the necessary remoteness between independent means of egress. This is typically defined as a separation between fire exits of at least 1/2 the overall diagonal measurement of the building in an unsprinklered building such as this, or 1/3 in a sprinklered building. I will be looking out for discussions of the exiting arrangements in this bui;lding and how they affected the event. Acroterion (talk) 03:32, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

Actually, it's already started to come up, although the Daily News isn't a favorite source, and it approaches the subject as a hose-lay problem (requiring more hose packs) [1]. Some more general discussions of scissor stairs for future reference: [2] [3] Acroterion (talk) 03:48, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

Those are good points, thank you. Feel free to be BOLD and add, as we now have two articles touching on this issue. I think the electrical problems in 1977, the failure to adhere to code, is interesting too, but I guess not for DYK purposes. Note the article linked, which is available as a clipping on Newspapers.com, as is the continuation. Coretheapple (talk) 14:00, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
btw note how the building was so poorly constructed that the windows were falling out! That's incredible. They started falling out right after it was built. Coretheapple (talk) 14:11, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
I'll see what I can do - right now I have a full plate in Real Life to make sure the windows don't fall out of my own projects, and that I keep my promises. Acroterion (talk) 14:50, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
Totally understand! I may get a chance to get into the stairways thing, but always like to see subject matter experts on the case. Coretheapple (talk) 15:16, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:The Second Hundred Years (TV series).jpg

Thank you for uploading File:The Second Hundred Years (TV series).jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:46, 11 January 2023 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: Appreciate the notification. However, I did not upload this image and have no strong feelings about it one way or the other. Coretheapple (talk) 15:45, 11 January 2023 (UTC)
The template's wording is a bit too boilerplateish perhaps, but I was aware that you didn't upload the file. You did, however, add the non-free use rationale that's being disputed to the file's page and then added the image to the corresponding Arthur O'Connell article. For that reason, I added the above notification. — Marchjuly (talk) 20:46, 11 January 2023 (UTC)
@Marchjuly: OK, thanks for clarifying. I really don't recall doing so, to be frank, and if it's not up to snuff I certainly don't object to whatever action you feel is necessary. Coretheapple (talk) 18:10, 12 January 2023 (UTC)

Al Ulmer

FYI: There a bunch of Russ Baker citations in Al Ulmer that make that article seem more about the Bushes than Ulmer. I'm going to have a go of it, but maybe you could take a peek, too. Cheers! -Location (talk) 23:43, 12 April 2023 (UTC)

ECs

Please pay closer attention to edit conflicts. You nuked all my cleanup tweaks from this edit. PS: Adding |language=en at en.wikipedia.org is redundant; it's already the default presumption and just adds wikisource code bloat for no reader- or editor-helping rationale.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  18:28, 27 August 2023 (UTC)

Sorry, I was using the "edit conflict' capability in Visual Edit for the first time. I probably should have just handled the EC as in the old days. Coretheapple (talk) 16:00, 28 August 2023 (UTC)

DYK for The Hustler (novel)

On 19 October 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article The Hustler (novel), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that despite claims to the contrary, novelist Walter Tevis insisted that the characters of "Minnesota Fats" and "Fast Eddie" in The Hustler were fictitious? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/The Hustler (novel). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, The Hustler (novel)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:35, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Happy Holidays

Peace is a state of balance and understanding in yourself and between others, where respect is gained by the acceptance of differences, tolerance persists, conflicts are resolved through dialog, people's rights are respected and their voices are heard, and everyone is at their highest point of serenity without social tension. Happy Holidays to you and yours. Hope your inactivity is short-lived. ―Buster7
Buster7 thanks very much and have a very happy holiday! Coretheapple (talk) 16:59, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

1RR

You have violated the 1RR at 2023 Israel–Hamas war, the reverts are this and this which reverted this removal of the addition of rape, mutilation and killing of Israeli women. Please self-revert your last revert (this though I agree that one part of that is justified, it is still a revert) or you may be reported to arbitration enforcement. nableezy - 16:13, 16 December 2023 (UTC)

Diplomatic isolation

Hatting long post on an article content issue, replete with footnotes. Don't clog other editors' talk pages with long missives on article content concernss; take it to the article talk page where all editors can weigh in. Coretheapple (talk) 22:46, 16 December 2023 (UTC)
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

Care to explain why you removed information on US and Israel's diplomatic isolation from lede? [4], This statement is supported by two in-line citations in lede, and four high quality explicit sources in body: [1][2][3][4] I am hoping that this was by mistake, otherwise this would certainly look like problematic behavior. @Coretheapple: As evident from my message above, I am here, acting in good faith, asking if you had made a genuine mistake by removing that sentence supported by four high quality sources, or that you had disingenuously removed them while claiming that a sentence supported by four high quality sources was a "POV slant". I would like to know so that I know whether this is a mistake or a troublesome editing behavior requiring other actions. Makeandtoss (talk) 22:34, 16 December 2023 (UTC)
