(talk page stalker) it's called the talk page, and it isn't a forum. I also recommend not leaving personal attacks and aspersions on other, good faith editors talk pages unless you want to get blocked. PRAXIDICAE🌈 18:03, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
@Praxidicae blocked by ToBeFree. Doug Weller talk 18:55, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
Ahhh, so much more peaceful now. Now we can focus on the latest shitty Supreme Court ruling! PRAXIDICAE🌈 18:57, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
@Praxidicae Did you see how Maine reacted to being told they had to give private schools money as well? Doug Weller talk 18:59, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
hopefully they just burned it all down OTOH, now a law should be passed prohibiting the 6 justices responsible for this and Roe being overturned from seeking medical care for any reason. It's God's Will. They can just pray. PRAXIDICAE🌈 19:08, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
@Praxidicae Lol. Anyway, Maine was told they had to include private schools in their funding. So they said ok, so long as they don't discriminate against lgbtq or gender neutral. The two schools involved said we don't want funds from you. Doug Weller talk 16:08, 28 June 2022 (UTC)
@Praxidicae who you think this is? Clearly a sock, but I wonder what they are referring to in particular. Doug Weller talk 10:57, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
Stalker, sort of, here. I'm so very depressed and dissapointed about that ruling, even though I am across the pond from it. It just seems to be such a backwards step for the U.S., and sadly, the world. Much of what has happened over there in the last few years in legal, journalistic and political arenas has the same feel about it. Mind you, there is Boris Johnson and his cronies over here. My best to you, Doug. -Roxy the bad tempered dog 11:40, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
@Roxy the dog Thanks. Half way through chemo and feeling better than I have in weeks. Which means I expect my consultant to tell me tomorrow he's upping my dosage to 90 or 100%. Dark times ahead in the US I think. I'm glad I don't live there anymore. Doug Weller talk 13:53, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
I'm happy to hear that you are feeling so much better! Good!
I've been watching this discussion and I'll add myself to the list of those disgusted with the US Supreme Court these days. (Although I'm pleased with the rats jumping ship from Trump-land at the January 6 hearings.) There are so many recent court rulings that are appalling that I can hardly focus on just one. But among those is the one that says it's just fine for a public high school football (American football, that is) coach to lead an on-field Christian prayer at games. I'm waiting to see what happens when a coach who is Islamic leads a prayer, and I suspect the justices will find a way to disallow that while claiming that it isn't the government favoring one religion over another. --Tryptofish (talk) 18:00, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
@Tryptofish: Oh, the prayers! For over 4 decades, my mother has been adamant that the US needs to "bring back school prayer". In my childhood, this was a rote blessing, recited before lunch. Not spiritually uplifting, by any means. Attempting to imagine equality in school prayer: (poorly written, sorry. Not all inclusive.) Shamanism, Confucianism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Native American, Judaism, Wiccan, Catholic, Protestant, Mormon, etc. Mom imagines that the only prayers are Methodist or Southern Baptist Protestants. Sigh... Thanks for letting me vent. Also disgusted, Tribe of Tiger Let's Purrfect! 02:45, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
Maybe I'm a little too optimistic and positive, idk. I'm also admittedly apolitical because politics from every direction don't really affect where I am and almost never for any good regardless but maybe this can turn into a good thing and the world will fall somewhere in the middle of dark times and bright sunny days. At any rate, I kind of like dark rainbows (Shout out to Dio) myself so if it is to be the end then I prefer to go out listening to or making music. --ARoseWolf 18:55, 29 June 2022 (UTC)

Regarding removal of Red Scare on Dirtbag left wikipedia page

Hi, the red scare currently is not a left podcast (as proclaimed by the podcast hosts.) Thus, the use of "have been" to describe or link the red scare to the dirtbag left is false usage of the term. Instead, it should be "was". Thus, either the mention of red scare should be removed, or there should be a new paragraph which states that they "were" linked to the dirtbag left. Song12301 (talk) 04:38, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

@Song12301 Please read Dirtbag left again, it clearly says "Beyond Chapo, media outlets that have been alternately linked to or described as dirtbag left" - that is NOT present tense but past tense. It is entirely accurate to say that the podcast has been, etc. Are you actually saying that the hosts say specifically they have not been linked? Doug Weller talk 09:09, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
From my understanding, "have been" is perfect present tense, so in this context it means that they are still associated or linked to the dirtbag left. Under the assumption that the dirtbag left refers to leftists, I recently listened to their podcast and it seems that they have disavowed their affiliation to leftism. One podcast host never considered themselves a leftist, another disavows leftism (recent episode, the diary of Sam Frank). From my perspective, it seems that the podcast is not a left leaning podcast, and is thus not part of the dirtbag left. Not sure if this is enough as a source, given that their disavowal came from their own words. Another way to change this is to add the qualifier that the podcast hosts don't consider themselves leftists. This change could be amended to both the mentioned dirtbag left article and the redscare podcast page. Song12301 (talk) 01:31, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
@Song12301 do you have sources that say they are no longer being described that way? In any case, I think that few people will interpret it the way you do. Tell you what, though. Go to WP:RSN and argue that the sources don't justify the wording/inclusion. Doug Weller talk 08:00, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

RE: Ziggurat of Ur: Era

No problem. Although I do prefer the less religious form of era names, I try not to be religious about it, myself. What I do dislike A LOT, is mixed usages in the same article. If I had your pre-knowledge about an historic consensus, then I would have just reverted the three IP edits just before mine, instead (Just as you did). But, as I said, I prefer the secular era names and feel like boldly pushing in that direction when I can. I do not go around looking for these opportunities, but when I noticed that another editor had changed only three of the instance in the article, I decided to finish the job. Shortsword (talk) 18:31, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

@Shortsword that’s what I thought. There’s a lot of argument about the guideline, with some more or less saying you need to stick with whatever was there first, others saying that several years, depending on how busy the article, is enough. There may still be an ongoing discussion on this. Doug Weller talk 18:35, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

Kempler theory returns

Hi Doug Weller. Mona Lisa is once again targeted by somebody promoting the Kempler theory, using identical language - "Leonardo's mother Caterina in a distant memory" - an apparently obsessive phrase familiar from Kempler socks such as this one. Using the WP:DUCK priciple, and recalling your earlier comment here, I'm thinking this looks like a block evasion. Could be wrong but what's your take? Ewulp (talk) 23:45, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

Harry Styles, my current drafts, & NPOV

Hello,

Apologies for bothering you, I am still learning the ropes at Wikipedia. If I am judged to need to be blocked, are my article drafts going to be deleted? I have an article I've been working very hard on in the drafts and I would be honestly really heartbroken if it died. I don't tend to publish articles before I think they're fully done. But if I am about to be blocked and that will delete my article, I would like to know so that I can publish the draft of it and other people can at least edit it.

Sorry again for bothering you. My experience with these users has been really upsetting over the past months but I understand if the rules are the rules. I just want to make sure if that is how it goes my content isn't destroyed - obviously once it posts people can do whatever they like with it.

H-influenzae (talk) 16:48, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

This is the article by the way - I am concerned it may run into issues with Lily32241 and KyleJoan again Draft:Harry Lambert (stylist). It contains discussions of topics I sense they are uncomfortable with. Very unfortunate because I really do just want to write a bio of an important figure.
If I don't get blocked I may run it and the Gucci dress article through more formal review. Would love the Gucci dress article to become GA.
H-influenzae (talk) 17:02, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
@H-influenzae It's unlikely that your drafts will be deleted, and they wouldn't be deleted just because of a topic ban. Doug Weller talk 09:36, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

About Vinkovci history of settlement

I reverted this edit but one part I missed in the edit summary (because it was getting too long already) is that directly below there's another source showing settlement at 5480 BC which is 7,000 years ago as well, and then there's further sources for later prehistoric settlements below that too. Certainly there's room to dispute Durman's extra millenium, but it should be with academic sources, as opposed to just saying it's nationalist. Prehistory doesn't have much to do with nations, but I generally get your point that it can be part of some sort of a biased narrative. Nevertheless, the article doesn't cite the local Vinkovci politicians boasting about it, but a professor from a reasonably reputable Zagreb institution that shouldn't be assumed to be part of some sort of a petty propaganda effort. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 11:04, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

One way we can say Durman is not sufficient is if he has a conflict of interest, as he's been collaborating with local archeologists there, and has published several works specifically about it, and plans to publish more. So it can be a case of academic self-promotion. But that has to be actually clear from something other than editorial judgement, otherwise we're just arbitrarily censoring what seems to be mainstream scholarship. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 11:11, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

@Joy I've reverted you as the onus is on showing this is correct, not on disproving it. However I've raised the issue at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Archaeology#Vinkovci claimed as " continuously inhabited for over 8,200 years" Bušic seems to be an expert on church history, clearly not an appropriate source for archaeology. Basically in archaeology we try to avoid the media as a source and use peer reviewed material. I don't think that nationalism need be considered petty propaganda, it's just a way some people perceive the world. I don't doubt that there is evidence of settlement going that far back, it's the "continously" claim that's the problem - and claiming it at the List of oldest continuously inhabited cities as that old, which is where I ran into it. Thanks for your response here and your cooperation. Please comment at the wikiproject. Doug Weller talk 11:22, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

IDF Unit Gadsar Nahal protection level

Hi Dough,

I’m a veteran of the IDF’s Gadsar Nahal Unit and I am currently a member and volunteer in its alumni organization. I understand the need to protect a page connected to such a contentious issue as the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, however, much if not most of the information on the page needs to be updated or corrected. The unit underwent major restructuring in 2021 and thus the page must be updated. There are also a few minor general mistakes. Please let me know how we can update the information to more accurately reflect the unit.

Hi Doug,

I hope you’re doing well. Thanks for your earlier comments on my additions to the Sarasvati river page.

It wasn’t my intention to do any kind of vandalism on the page. Since it was my first time on Wikipedia where I contributed something, I didn’t do it in the correct way. Although, now I have rewritten the content in better words.

Do let me know what you think about it.

Sorry to hear this Doug. The evidence seems inconclusive but I know a number of sports scientists say broccoli (sulforaphane) and turmeric has powerful anti-canceral effects. Wish you all the best and hope the liver op deals with it!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:30, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
Broccoli-family veggies may have some preventative activity, but no one should rely on them to be curative. --Tryptofish (talk) 19:34, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
Dearest Doug, I've just gone through another round of scans etc: waiting for results was the worse time for me. Luckily, my latest round was negative. Fingers, toes still crossed! Thinking of you and best regards. As ever, David, David J Johnson (talk) 21:34, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
@David J Johnson@Dr. Blofeld@MarnetteD@NewsAndEventsGuy@Tryptofish Late reply. Sorry, lack of sleep and other things, feeling a bit better today but dreading tomorrow's heat wave, first Emergency heatwave alert for England ever! Turmeric, yes, should make some turmeric bread. Broccoli, well, my chemotherapy treatment has given me some anti-nauseous drugs, but even then...:) David, I'm so pleased to hear that your scans came back negative. Here's hoping for mine (well, that they show nothing more than the liver tumours and they've shrunk or at least can be operated on). Of course, although I feel better today, I've developed something new, left foot plantar fasciitis. Rains, pours. Doug Weller talk 14:28, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
We're all rooting for you and the desired scans Dave! I don't envy your weather forecast. Give me extreme cold over extreme heat any day. I wonder if turmeric and other vaso-dilating spices help with thermal regulation when its really hot? Seems plausible anyway. In kind of a fun full circle irony, if I'm out for long periods below -20C I've sometimes sprinkled cayenne pepper in my gloves and socks for the same reason, only then its trying to keep my digits warm, whereas I guess you'll be trying to keep your core cool. Happy sweating, both literally and figuratively NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 14:48, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, an 80% chance of reaching 40 degrees they say, 43 oC in East Anglia? Hotter than Egypt! It was 45oC one day in Turkey in the mid 90s! Sodium Bicarbonate is another one which I know been discussed, cancers are acidic and it alkalizes the body. I actually take Himalayan salt, sodium bicarbonate, turmeric and Cayenne pepper and lemon when I feel a cold coming and it is very effective, not had a full blown cold since 2015! Your turmeric cake sounds appetizing BTW! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:05, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
@Dr. Blofeld and I was just reading the UK Parkinson’s Facebook page and some were saying that the heat was already causing them nausea. Doug Weller talk 19:08, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
@Dr. Blofeld meant to ask the recipe for your cold cure, I’ve got the ingredients. Doug Weller talk 19:09, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
I use roughly a teaspoon of each and a fair amount of lemon juice with water, a little less salt though, maybe 3/4 of a spoon if you can manage it. You can also add honey and ginger. The salt is pretty hideous but the turmeric and cayenne make it a bit better. You'll wince but it's blocked every cold since I discovered it in 2015! Very powerful. I usually only need to do it once but twice within 24 hrs occasionally. The pink salt contains 84 different minerals and is one of the most nutritious things on the planet believe it or not! I've experimented a lot over the years and very few supplements worked for me long term, there's a lot of bullshit online. Those and Alpha-GPC as a cognitive enhancer for me are genuine, though everybody is different. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:59, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
Cold is good, I've rarely had a problem with cold. Doug Weller talk 16:50, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
I have long had plantar fasciitis myself. I got prescription orthotics (shoe inserts that sit in the bottom of the shoe, below your foot), and they work like a miracle. Depending on your healthcare system, either a podiatrist or an orthopedic surgeon is who you see for them. --Tryptofish (talk) 20:21, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
Hoping to organise more orthotics tomorrow, free on the NHS and I haven't had any since covid. Doug Weller talk 16:51, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
That got me thinking. So orthotics are paid free in the UK. Here in the US, despite mine being prescribed by a physician and my having about the best health care insurance policy available here, I had to pay for them myself, $450.00. God bless capitalism. Anyway, be well! --Tryptofish (talk) 16:55, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

@ Aw, I'm blushing. Thanks. Doug Weller talk 16:52, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

you warned me about attacking other editors.

The editors I think you're referring to have been gatekeeping the biography of David Paulides for years. They've literally been maintaining a page dedicated to hatred of the subject of the biography. I was trying to convey to them that maybe it's time to let go of their stranglehold. I know I wasn't nice about it. I realize that Anarchist has been a wikipedia editor for a many years. I'm sorry but his behavior on this particular biography is reprehensible. Every editor who has tried to ammend the bio back to the simple truth of the original page, to say the most basic facts of the person in the bio, every single effort is immediately reverted back to the disgraceful lies certain editors have been perpetrating for so long. I'm not exaggerating. It seems such a simple thing to simply tell the truth, yet it's been impossible, and the biography remains far beyond BLP. I apologize for my own words, and I promise to guard my tongue and my temper from now on, but even if it's against wikipedia's definition of good faith, I sincerely apologize, but I'm not ashamed of saying those things to people who have told nothing but blatant lies and guarded over them to make sure no one can make the bio right. If you can aid in some kind of resolution, I believe it would be for the improvement of wikipedias biography. thank you very much for reading this and for your time and consideration. I'm not new, but I really am because I don't know much and am learning, but I also see this situation as important.

I've been asked too many times if I have a conflict of interest. I don't know the subject of the bio, any of his friends, family, acquaintance, work associates. I live at least five states away from him. I don't know him at all. I have no stake in this. Again, thank you so much. MikiBishop (talk) 08:11, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

@MikiBishop you are still making personal attacks. This can't continue and if you do it again I'll block you from the article and its talk page, at least. Doug Weller talk 09:11, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
That's fine, Doug, It looks like I won't be able to stay at wikipedia much longer. I've made one comment, and that was a message for Susan only, - Sgerbic - who is a good person. She's mature, very kind, and willing to help new people. She's knowledgeable, and wikipedia, instead of trusting her and giving her some freedom, she has to jump through even more hoops now when she's already jumped through so many hoops in these many years she's been so loyal to wikipedia. Isn't she an administrator yet?
Anarchist is probably the only one powerful enough to turn that bio around, so I wonder why he isn't more inspired in his role at wikipedia to be a force for the good in everything he works on. I just don't think the answer to keeping the best people in line is transparency instead of trust, and for the "newbies," negative threats like 'straighten up or be blocked' when they reach out to you for help.
Why are the rest of the people working on that page so motivated toward the negative? Maybe something is wrong with the way wikipedia handles people. wikipedia can't blame it on the individuals not being nice enough all of the time. Editors start out here and their only contact for guidance from higher-ups is some verbal abuse for doing things the wrong way.
Anyway, goodbye. Wikipedia is becomming massively powerful in the world, like it's gotten a huge bump upward now. I with it wouldn't squander the opportunity MikiBishop (talk) 22:21, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
WTF? "Powerful enough"? (And my username isn't "Anarchist".) I have no more "power" than anybody else. And honestly, the David Paulides page gets my attention only because it happens to be one of the thousands of pages on my watchlist. I am not particularly interested in the subject, and the article seems to me to be in good shape. When someone comes in for the purpose of whitewashing it, I notice. That's all.
MikiBishop has done some questionable things here, like insisting no knowledge of the subject yet disclosing personal contact with the subject on WP:TEAHOUSE, removing statements cited to a verifiable and reliable source, accusing others of saying the subject was "arrested" when the word never appeared anywhere, claiming wrongly that California public employee compensation is private and requires payment to access... and I kind of stopped paying attention after that. ~Anachronist (talk) 21:39, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Prof Lương Ninh passed away already in 2020 and the funeral was held on 15 Sept 2020 in Hanoi. So basically he is not able to make edits in Wikipedia in 2022.

I strongly recommend you to make comments purely about the book's quality and the accuracy of the information, rather than make personal insults and baseless accusations. Thank you and wish you a good day. 2402:800:6315:E15F:CCF6:F44B:4249:3149 (talk) 09:19, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

That was just a guess. So it's being done by supporters. I've already commented on the book's quality as have others. We need specialist sources, not generalist, and the book isn't even reliably published. Doug Weller talk 09:24, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

It is being done by someone who "support" the intepretation of the book purely as a reader and have no connection of interest or whatsoever with the author. Your "guess" can be very hurtful and impolite to other people because it is basically groundless accusation about other's personality and private life without any evidences. The accusation of publishing issues is weird, too, because the book is neither self-published nor issued by predatury publisher.

So I would like to request you to not make unneccessary comments beyond the boundary of criticisms and concerns about the accuracy and quality of the content presented, especially "guess" which can be perceived as personal insult. 171.249.226.243 (talk) 16:04, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

Yeah, the pros care; I should have said out loud I was talking about the routine weather report, at least the kind culturally engrained in the USA TV/radio audience. Although over here we do sometimes hear about something called the "feels like" temp, which is a step in the right direction I guess. Stay cool~! NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 03:34, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
The US Weather Bureau includes heat index values in their forecasts, at least for a couple of days ahead in hot weather. Forecast here today is 91F, with a heat index as high as 102F. The humidity is high, dew point this morning (6:30 here) is only one degree below air temp, F or C. - Donald Albury 10:30, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

National Socialist Movement

I didn't notice that you had reverted my edit there, I was here to say that I added social conservatism since their platform has always been strongly against LGBT rights and currently opposes women's suffrage. I didn't replace "white supremacy" with social conservatism, even though I noticed it looks like that from the source. Rebecca577 (talk) 06:18, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

@Rebecca577 Hi. I see for one edit there you wrote "are implied". We need reliable sources for positions of organisations. These can be either in the body of the article or the infobox. We can't imply, that is original research, we need to follow WP:V and WP:RS. Sadly this is too often ignored. Doug Weller talk 08:41, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
Oh, when I said "implied", I removed anti-capitalism and anti-communism because that is usually included in neo-fascist beliefs, and because I didn't want the ideology section to get too cluttered (but it isn't the main thing I wanted to change). Would a link to their current platform be an acceptable source, and is there any term you would recommend besides social conservatism, since I recognize not at all social conservatives are as extreme? Rebecca577 (talk) 09:04, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
@Rebecca577 a link to their platform for specific positions would be fine, but I've no idea what to replace social conservatism with, again we'd need a reliable source. Thanks for responding. Doug Weller talk 09:14, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

Edit on the 'Honour' article

Hello. I noticed your message on my recent edit on this article and wanted to clarify why I believe it both does not require a citation and that the original text in question deserves some sort of editing, even if not my own.

I reproduce the line that was edited: "The successful conclusion of the war, especially the spectacular defeat of the main British invasion army at New Orleans, did restore the American sense of honour."

First, the original text does not include a citation. Second, it editorializes the Battle of New Orleans and incorrectly groups that engagement in with the War of 1812, even though the battle itself took place after the signing of the Treaty of Ghent and thus was not technically a part of that conflict, and therefore at least the word 'spectacular' ought to be eliminated and quite possibly the whole line revised. Third, it is not at all a settled fact that the War of 1812 was, in fact, a 'successful conclusion' for either party, much less the Americans.

If you disagree with my assessment of this point, please let me know. Thank you. StrangeBanana (talk) 20:56, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

PS - alternatively, I'm willing to reproduce my edits with citations to prove them. StrangeBanana (talk) 21:05, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
@StrangeBanana I've tweaked the text and added a source (with a quote in the citation), the best place to discuss it is the article talk page, not here. Doug Weller talk 09:29, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

Stephen Meyer

I happened to see the Wikipedia article on Stephen Meyer (full disclosure: I know him personally) and was dismayed to see that intelligent design, which he espouses, is labeled as "pseudoscience." Now my intention is not to argue for or against the theory but rather merely to suggest that from the beginning the article shows a lack of neutrality...Anyone who has listened to SM, whether friend or foe, must concede that he is in possession of a brilliant mind--and of genuine scientific knowledge...Wikipedia is (or ought to be) a valuable resource, and thus great care must be taken to avoid the appearance of bias. RoanSuda (talk) 12:09, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Just happened to notice this comment, and took a look at the article on him. We seem to cover his work in some detail, using good reliable sources. That his opinion doesn't align with the mainstream view is not our problem to fix, though I'm not sure that he would dispute the articles depiction of his views, just our interpretation of them, which is of course reliably sourced. -Roxy the English speaking dog 12:34, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
@Roxy the dog agreed, thanks. Doug Weller talk 14:18, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
@RoanSuda you also need to read the top of the talk age which I think addresses your issue. Doug Weller talk 14:14, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
a) What sort of mind Stephen Meyer has, or any other fact about him, has no relevance to whether intelligent design is a pseudoscience--it is considered to be so according to criteria that have nothing to do with him.
b) You seem to be asserting that merely labeling intelligent design as a pseudoscience in Stephen Meyer's article "shows a lack of neutrality" and gives an "appearance of bias", and that this follows from his having a brilliant mind. Sorry, but this doesn't hang together logically. Failing to correctly label intelligent design as a pseudoscience merely because someone with a brilliant mind happens to advocate it would show a lack of neutrality--we don't alter the descriptions of things based on who does or does not advocate for them, or judgments about such peoples' minds. Consider, in regard for your concern about neutrality and bias, that many people with brilliant minds reject intelligent design and consider it a pseudoscience ... but what sort of minds such people have is not the basis on which Wikipedia labels it a pseudoscience.
c) This is not the proper place to discuss this ... the proper place is the talk page for the article that you want to improve. And if you visit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Stephen_C._Meyer you will find that there is already an extensive discussion of this topic. Jibal (talk) 05:01, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

Doug, not sure if you received my ping on 14, as I edited the comment immediately after. Sometimes, pings don't go through, even when I don't do that. As I said in the "note", if you'd prefer not act as either editor or administrator, or to provide some clarity on this, I can ping a random administrator, or take it to a notice board (though I'm not sure which one covers this). But this is one of the topic areas that you regularly intervene in, and I've always regarded you as fair. It's pretty clear to me that Naplota is an SPA, and seems to be editing with a POV. The intentionally misleading edit summaries were a huge red flag to me. But this isn't really about that. I'm more confused by the seasoned editor who supported their edits, and gave me a bogus reason for their reversal. I'm asking as much for a third set of eyes, as much as any intervention. I'm not sure how to deal with an experienced editor that misrepresents the content and their rationale for removing it, and then seems to double down and (I think) gaslight me a bit. @Generalrelative up and down today, but except for yesterday which was up, better than the last week. Not convinced the language used matches him, and I don't think I want to fish. Request for letting off-topic post stand

Hi Doug Weller. I'm writing to you because I saw something very different that I hadn't seen ever before, that I remember (even though you or others may have). A post in a talk page with emojis. For me this is very significant. It's probably a very young user and the next generation of Wikipedians. They, being likely new to Wikipedia, posted an off-topic comment in the talk of the talk page guideline that was reverted as expected.

I reverted the revert making a unique exception for a unique event (at least in my experience). Of course, someone else just reverted again, following the standard bureaucracy. The edit summary telling me to "respond on the editor's talk page but the post does not belong here and this isn't the place to welcome new folks".

I am an experienced editor, I do know that the post was off topic. I am not in the use of welcoming editors in talk pages. But for this one time I tried making an exception due to the uniqueness of the post in my experience. Besides, the new editor may have been using someone else's pc, like a library, an internet cafe, or with a dynamic ip address and if I respond in the ip talk page they may never see my reply. In addition, seeing their post coldly removed may provide disappointment and may never come back to Wikipedia. They may remember where they posted by looking for the title of the page, if they use a different ip.

Therefore, my request is to make a symbolic exception for the ip editors' post and instead of removing it from the talk page, let it stand. We can provide a proper reply there. It's a pretty unique exception for a unique circumstance. I understand if you disagree with me, but I write just in case. Cheers! Thinker78 (talk) 20:42, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) I looked at it and, emojis or not, it looks like the kind of thing that is normal and proper to revert. I'm not at all convinced that this is simply a child who needs a little guidance to become a positive contributor. --Tryptofish (talk) 20:53, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
See [16] - it was reverted by Admin Johnuniq, an account reinstated it with the edit summary "Please WP:NOBITING. Let's better reply, welcome and provide guidance. First time ever I see a post with emojis btw. Let's try to attract a new editor to Wikipedia." to reinstated it, Chris Troutman reverted again. The IP also posted nonsense at [17]. Doug Weller talk 06:47, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
@Thinker78 just want to make sure you see this. I take your point, but the other edit shows that this probably is a child and I'm not convinced we'd want them to continue editing. Doug Weller talk 06:50, 10 August 2022 (UTC)

@Paul August Problems I see are multiple ignored warnings, edits such as this deleting sourced text saying it's racist, [Special:Contributions/107.179.229.114#] making an original research change,. may be correct but still unsourced.. Here the bit about Gilgamesh seems sourced but badly and can be sourced with revision. Further back see this revert. And then there's talk page behavour. Apalachee "Modern Descendants" change

As the Co-Chief of the Apalachee Indians of the Talimali Band, I have made the necessary corrections that give factual dates, events, and people who are part of the tribe and are indeed modern descendants. What Wikipedia is displaying online under "modern descendants" is false information. Apalacheelee (talk) 19:54, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

Hello Apalacheelee. I'm just a talk page watcher of Doug's but I wanted to share with you some information about Wikipedia. Anything that is "false" can only be verified by adding reliable sources which say something different. Nothing that you added or altered included an updated source for that edit. Wikipedia requires the inclusion of these sources if you are to edit what is in the article because all information should be able to be verified. See WP:RS and WP:V. --ARoseWolf 20:09, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
@ARoseWolf thanks. there is obviously a conflict of interest issue here also. Doug Weller talk 20:12, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
I saw that but I disagree with them having a conflict of interest with the whole article. I might agree that they should not be editing any information directly regarding the organization they are co-Chief of but to edit information about the Apalachee people in general also discussed in the rest of the article runs counter to Wikipedia's purpose. That would be like telling me that I can not edit articles on the Cherokee or the Cherokee Nation. I still must follow Wikipedia policy and so should this editor but we can't limit their edits based on ethnicity nor say that a claimed ethnicity is a reason to disbar them from editing articles about said ethnicity. This does not lend credence to nor remove it from their claims. I only wish to offer a different perspective. I understand exactly what you are saying, Doug, and I can see it from your perspective and even agree with some of it. --ARoseWolf 20:24, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
@ARoseWolf yes, it’s material related to their tribe that they should not edit. Doug Weller talk 20:26, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
Doug, I think it might have been a little harsh to tell the user at their talk that it was a warning. Information about how to do things the right way, yes, but I think this is a case of someone who didn't know that they were doing it wrong and just needed some explanation. Pretty far from the kind of account that is promoting their new business. --Tryptofish (talk) 20:51, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
@Tryptofish I gave him the Twinkle notice "Managing a conflict of interest" which surely is an explanation. I did warn them about not using reliable sources, and another Admin warned them for disruptive editing and reverted them. They were also reverted by a third Admin. I've also spent quite a bit of time looking for reliable sources. What more do you want me to do? How about finding some sources yourself? Doug Weller talk 08:07, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
Well, I never claimed to be perfect. Please don't worry about what I said.   --Tryptofish (talk) 14:41, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
@Tryptofish thanks. I've posted to their talk page with some possible sources, asking about others. No one is perfect! Doug Weller talk 14:52, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
Thank you both. I'm relieved. I was trying to figure out how to respond to this discussion to bring down the temp a little but you both did that remarkably on your own. I can see what both of you were trying to do here. I left a note on their talk page offering to answer questions if they had any about policies but reiterated the need to follow those policies. It can be confusing for experienced editors sometimes so someone just coming here to correct something they see as wrong has little to no chance of understanding. Doug, I appreciate you taking the time to work with them and also to explain everything to them. Tryp, of course you aren't perfect but you are perfectly fishy and I love ya for it. I appreciate you trying to put a light on the human aspect of all of this and how we respond to it which is sometimes lost in the desire to protect the encyclopedia from harm. --ARoseWolf 15:10, 16 August 2022 (UTC)

Attention needed

Hi Doug; as RegentsParks is less active these days who originally blocked a ranter diff for a racist slur of labelling me as Castiest Brahamin; diff. Thus, I choose to bring this under your scholarly attention as you in past had warned them for their behaviour and for a possible block; diff.

They as usual are still in no mood to mend their ways; actually they are proud of their disruptive past for getting banned from Delhi Riots page (still acusing reliable media outlet for alleged anti-hindu bias again in accordance with their habit of not attesting it with counter RS); diff.

 • As usual they again restored to defaming of a reputed academic (Romila Thapar) by comparing them with him/her; diff literally saying that her scholarship is unworthy in comparison to me; (would have avoided it had it been only limited to me) but fearing possible repercussions, they slashed Thapar name from there; diff.
 • While they are blocked for personal attacks; they again hurled abuse towards me; diff (no issue with shoe lace remark but saying that I ain't worthy of cleaning their toilet is definately a unacceptable abuse.
 • If I got carried away; I appologize sincerely for that but this user who has been on razor edge for sometime (whenever they edit regularly); and even when they are blocked; they are still ranting and beliting a female academic (though remove it after fearing a long term block); and calling others to clean their toilet (don't even have adequates of communicating with a female) definately deserve much harsh reprimand then a 31 hour block; probably indefinate block ? or at least ban from Indian-related topics. (their sub-optimal understanding of English is there to be seen; where I made a comment in context of their desregard for sources they don't like and even calling reputed acaedemics as so called great scholar obviously they said it in derogratory fashion as their political view suggest; even you noticed this; diff (their below par understanding and writting of English is obviously clear from their repeated threads)
 • To continue upon it; they still haven't stop ranting and still calling me as a castiest individual and making such accusations that I insulted a profession although I didnot say anything even remotely close to that:- diff.
 • If somoebody make personal attacks again (before block expires); they obviously should be reblocked. If you have any concern with my behviour, your are welcome to criticise me, but this user apart from long block for continously making personal remark and calling other castiest and claiming that they insult other professions (which I never did);

PS:- I made this request here again; largely because of continously harrasing of pinging me and ranting me as castiest even though they are blocked for the same If you think I made a mistake, please let me know on my t/p. Thanks. ∆ P&t ♀√ (talk) 04:02, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

Also; isn't using talk page in this fashion (while blocked); is a breach of talk page rule as well ? it's early days but in these way, they most likely end up loosing acess to their own talk page aswell. ∆ P&t ♀√ (talk) 04:09, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

Please be brief. I reviewed the unblock request and declined it. While the block is active, do not ping the user or mention them. I am watching their talk and if more than mild venting occurs will take action. If you think I missed something you can mention it on my talk (just a diff please) but venting is permitted. You can actually size the an image when you include it in the article. For example, . You can even include it one inline  , just like this one example, but inline images are not recommended for articles. HTH Atsme 💬 📧 21:04, 20 August 2022 (UTC) Clarified in case someone is not familiar with WP:MOS and/or how to include images in articles. 22:08, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
Eek! Don't do either of those at small sizes please.
It sometimes takes time for an image to settle down - something to do with your - ach, forgotten the word - temp storage anyway. It looks fine to me in the first English article. But you have over-written the old image I think, which is not good practice. Create a new version. Johnbod (talk) 21:22, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
Johnbod, I wasn't suggesting they do it; rather, I was just demonstrating how easy it is to size an image without altering the original photo. I just now added some clarification to my comment. It appears they already resized the image. Atsme 💬 📧 22:08, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

Robert Ballard’s expeditions in to the Black Sea

Two decades ago, Robert Ballard made a number of expeditions in to the Black Sea finding remains of what looked to be human settlements at the bottom of the sea, supporting the Black Sea deluge hypothesis. I don’t know what scientific papers have to say about his expeditions, but the fact of the matter is that they were described and reported by at least two WP:GENREL sources at the time, sources which are still on the web all these years later, sources reliable enough I would trust them even for a WP:BLP concern.

Now, if there’s a real scientific issue with his findings, considering how much popular press coverage they got, I would expect to see at least one reliably sourced scientific paper/review/whatever saying “well, the problem with Robert Bellard’s evidence is....” if there was a real problem with what he found. That in mind, I have restored a short description of his expeditions to the Black Sea deluge hypothesis article, backed up by two high-quality sources.

This is in reference to an edit made nearly eight years ago.

As a personal note, unless you explicitly ask me not to, I will make sure my Bible study group this week prays for your full remission from cancer. I lost both my wife and my mother to cancer, so I have some idea how scary it can be. Samboy (talk) 14:13, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

@Samboy I hope that wasn't me you were accusing of violating NPOV. I note that Robert Ballard's article desperately needs sources for this. They exist as to peer reviewed material for the Black Sea Deluge article. Thanks for the offer to pray for me, although I don't believe in prayer but do think a positive attitude helps a lot (which my surgeon said). Doug Weller talk 15:09, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
I was not accusing you, or anyone else, of violating POV. I was stating that it doesn’t come off as neutral to completely omit the widely reported expeditions to the bottom of the Black Sea in an article where they are relevant. I apologize for any misunderstanding. As per your comment, I will pray for you and wish you well. Thank you for your intervention

Thank you for noticing the issue with the Erra article. It was the most egregious case of a rather confusing phenomenon which could be observed across a large number of (mostly) Mesopotamian deity pages (ex. Tishpak, Nergal, Hadad, Nindara, but also Ugaritic Anat and Resheph - some still have remnants of it here and there) over the course of past few months - someone was apparently trying to use wikipedia to spread a personal hyperfiffusionist theory which started with attempts at promoting a reading of Ninurta already discarded in the 1920s. Hopefully this will cease now. Due to the small number of active editors working on relevant topics this sort of disruptive activity is very hard to counter. HaniwaEnthusiast (talk) 20:42, 17 August 2022 (UTC)

@HaniwaEnthusiast thanks. Let me know if there is anything else I can do. Doug Weller talk 09:43, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
Well, the phenomenon might end up continuing, I am afraid. I feel like whatever can be done is futile because this person just moves on to a different article each time and it is difficult to keep up with their IPs. Currently they are in the Ninazu one, trying to make Stephanie Dalley's comments on the Anzu myth to instead apply to the Gula Hymn of Bulluṭsa-rabi (which, as far as I know, Dalley in fact did not even comment on in the first place...?) In this case it's particularly annoying because they could just add that Wiggermann thinks the passage was a result of identification with Ninazu, instead of trying to reassign this view to a better known author. I should note in this case no intervention is necessary, I will let you know if anything worse happens though.
A particularly annoying part of the problem is that they only pick articles which have a substantial amount of content - note previously as the main target of their ventures they have chosen the Erra article, which provides relatively a lot of credible information, over the stub Lugal-irra and Meslamta-ea, for instance. I do not really understand this decision, but given that they have a weird hyperdiffusionist agenda as they admitted on my talk page, I presume they want to "steal" credibility of published authors (and wikipedia articles) this way to pretend they support the notion that Ninurta is in fact Sicilian (no, really...) or something alone these lines...? HaniwaEnthusiast (talk) 19:33, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
@HaniwaEnthusiast do you think [27] has made enough bad edits to block? Note I am going to bed now, so tomorrow. Doug Weller talk 20:23, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
If I have to be honest - I personally believe they did enough harm just in the Erra article alone to warrant it. And there are at least six articles where they went on a similar pseudohistory rampage. I also feel it's important to note they refuse to use talk pages and sometimes make unnecessary edits to articles to instead leave comments in edit summaries which makes it incredibly difficult even just to try to reason with them. HaniwaEnthusiast (talk) 07:35, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
Hopefully won't happen again! Let me know if it does. Doug Weller talk 08:11, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

Question

There's this little question I wanted to ask you, and I'm curious to hear your thoughts on. Why did I get an indefinite ban when I used MEMRI as a source and didn't respond to your warnings on my talk page since I hadn't discovered it yet, but these guys, who call for the mass slaughter and enslavement of an entire nation, only receive a 31h ban? This behavior won't alter in a day, that much is clear. These users (#1, #2, #3) claim to be sent by Hezbollah, a terrorist organization, which makes sense because their IP identifies them as being from Lebanon. They were created with the sole purpose of threatening Wikipedia editors. Let's make sure they receive the proper punishment. Tombah (talk) 06:26, 25 August 2022 (UTC)

@Tombah they've all been blocked. One by me. We have to be careful blocking IPs when they are likely to be used by someone else soon, but rest assured if they come back they will be caught. They've 3 Admins looking for the next one. Doug Weller talk 10:43, 25 August 2022 (UTC)

Please reconsider this AE close

I was looking at this AE close after they pinged me and sucked me into renewed discussion on their talk page, especially this 10,630 byte screed and largely personal attack. (It's both sad and troubling. It's worth a read.) That was viewed as a Tban violation by User:Newslinger. The amount of CIR problems, battle attitude, and especially total failure to AGF makes it clear to me that the following appeals still have merit:

 • an indef NOTHERE block is the only way forward. User:Guerillero
 • I agree that an indefinite block is appropriate. Doug Weller
 • Support an indef not here block for Barecode. User:RegentsPark

Also factor this screed into the mix. Wow! That got them threatened by User:Hemiauchenia.

I know they have a Tban, but would you reconsider in light of the continuing issues? They are still lacking in key CIR abilities to vet sources for reliability and are also NOTHERE. They are here to RGW.

BTW, feel free to email me about your health issues. My issue is prostate cancer. I don't talk about this much, but know that I'm concerned for you. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 18:55, 27 August 2022 (UTC)

The definition of 'Cult'/'Cults' as proposed by yourself.

Dear Doug,

Thank you for contacting myself with regards to my amendment of the use of the above term when describing ancient Kemetic worship and Abydos, a centre of worship.

I recognize that you refer to the usage as that which is used by 'Egyptologists' and imply that this is correct. However 'Egyptology' itself is a western contrived and designated term partly to negate any connection to Africa and promote this 'field of study' from the western singular dominant narrative. Before 'Egypt there is and was ' Nuria and Kemet.

Much of the western revisionist HIStory that has been taught, is at last being debunked.

The Truth does not remain hidden forever. 82.10.204.175 (talk) 15:20, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

Edits to Sons of Confederate Veterans Page

Doug, I got your message that you have deleted my edits to this entry and I am perplexed. You say that Wikipedia strives to be neutral, but I found that this entry was anything but. That is why I made some changes. The original posting was very confrontational, using such terms as "neo-Confederate" and "pseudohistorical". The SCV has been around since 1896 and was created by the actual veterans as a successor organization, so they're anything but "neo". Further, just because someone has a different take on history than the commonly held narrative, does not make it incorrect or "pseudo". Rather than let someone else define the purpose of the organization, I simply quoted that actual purpose as shown on the SCV website. I tried to be neutral in my changes while showing the SCV in a more positive light. I have been an SCV member for over 14 years and can assure you that we are not a bunch of closet Klansman. We are a group of men attempting to project the history of the Confederate soldier as accurately as possible and honor their service as well. As you know, the winner in a conflict writes the history and mine is an attempt to present the other side. I'll give my edits another try and I would ask that you keep an open mind.

Thanks,

Dave Clarke Lazyboyfarm (talk) 17:10, 6 September 2022 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) Lazyboyfarm, we don't generally base our content on what any organisation says about itself, we summarise what independent, reliable sources say about them. Our goal in this sort of article is not to honour (or disparage) anyone, just to summarise what mainstream sources say. If you are a member of the organisation, you may well have a conflict of interest - I'd urge you to read that guidance, make the necessary disclosures, and avoid editing the page. You are of course free to edit the article's talk page to make suggestions. Best Girth Summit (blether) 17:19, 6 September 2022 (UTC)

Edit war on Wepwawetemsaf

Dear Doug Weller, I don't know if you are the right person to address about this, but I am currently involved in an edit war on Wepwawetemsaf. The page should probably be protected to cool things down. A user disagrees about the definition of neutrality and asks for the removal of a two adjective ("poor" and "crude") explicitely stated by serious published sources to describe a stone stela on grounds of neutrality. Without necessarily going into the debate, it might be good to simply lock the page.Iry-Hor (talk) 10:08, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

Whether to recommend registration for a blocked IP user

Hi, Doug, I have a question about encouraging (or not) a user to register for an account, if they happen to be blocked at the time. I just added this discussion section at 64.67.122.103 (talk · contribs)'s UTP. This is the prickly "Shroud" editor, and I'm aware you've been active in their one-month block. As an afterthought, I encouraged them to register for an account (diff). However, afterward I thought better of it, and removed my recommendation to register. I realized this could have a bad look if they go to register while blocked, due to appearance of socking. I started to think of ways to mitigate that, e.g., by recommending that if they registered, they should immediately link to their blocked account (but that would be WP:DOXXING, so maybe not), or to email an admin to request a block of their newly registered account in order to "inherit the block" so to speak, but that seemed too fiddly and complex. In the end, I just undid my postscript about registering entirely.

I don't see anything at WP:REGISTER discouraging editors from encouraging blocked editors to register for an account, nor is there anything at Template:Register about not using the template on the UTP of a blocked account. I wonder if such advice should be added to those pages? It seems like a blocked editor should wait until a block expires before registering, and other editors probably shouldn't encourage registering during a block, but I just can't find any advice about it. Your thoughts? Mathglot (talk) 22:26, 14 September 2022 (UTC)

@Mathglot sorry to take so long to reply. It is possible that they couldn't even register an account. The Village Pump Technical can answer that. In fact I think I'll ask. But it would be a bad idea if they could create an account that wasn't blocked. I'm guessing though that if they have a dynamic IP they could get away with it. As I said, I'll ask. Now. Doug Weller talk 15:22, 15 September 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, I subscribed to your VPT thread. (P.S., no reason to apologize, your volunteer efforts are much appreciated!) Mathglot (talk) 17:01, 15 September 2022 (UTC)

Thank you

Hi Doug,

Thank you for letting me know about your restoring a page for which I submitted an edit. I appreciate the communication. However, I do disagree with your decision. The fact that krugman is a far-left radical by his own admission is very pertinent to him criticizing someone with whom he disagrees. The way it reads now is that he is an unbiased economist commenting on Ms. Shales’ book, while in reality he is anything but that. He has his opinions and she has hers, but you allow him to call hers wrong, when many would agree with her. But, I understand you have the editing power here, so be it. Take care. Stidhambw5 (talk) 02:06, 16 September 2022 (UTC)

@Stidhambw5 Where in the world does he say he’s a far left radical as the article says he’s liberal. Doug Weller talk 12:40, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
Stidhambw5, Doug is an editor here just like yourself. The very highest position on the encyclopedia is editor. Are you accusing them of using their administrator tools to force their opinion into an article? I would encourage you to clarify your statement "But, I understand you have the editing power here, so be it.". That's a pretty serious accusation. Looking at the content, Doug is correct, we would need either a direct statement from Mr. Krugman in which he called himself a "liberal" or a "far-left radical" or we would need independent reliable sources which call Mr. Krugman a "liberal" or "far-left radical". Doing so without those qualifiers would be a direct violation of WP:BLPN whether it's on the article for him or anywhere else in Wikipedia. --ARoseWolf 14:08, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
Just over a month ago in his New York Times opinion column, Krugman referred to himself this way: "As a center-left advocate of a strong social safety net — or, as Republicans would say, a Marxist (which, of course, I'm not) — I think highly of Nordic welfare states like Denmark." He's never said he was a "a far-left radical". Carlstak (talk) 22:25, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
Yep, plus there's his onetime bestselling book The Conscience of a Liberal (2007), also the title of his long-running blog. The man is basically the living definition of the institutional center-left; no serious person's idea of a radical. Generalrelative (talk) 01:31, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

Here's what's happening about my surgery tomorow

I have to drink a preop drink at 4am, again at 5am, and be at the hospital (which is 45 minutes drive) at 7am. No food after 3am I've had 4 weeks of twice a week intensive prehabilitation sessions at a small NHS gym which have made a big difference as my strength is quite a bit better and my cardiovascular health os very good. Not looking forward to the drip, tube down my nose, and 2 or 3 other tubes feeding me painkillers (including an epidural). No food for the first couple of days and evidently I won't want to eat anyway. Fun! Taking some cookies and chocolate with me for later. It won't be fun but I'll make it through! Bish is archiving this page, putting up notices for me. Doug Weller talk 17:47, 20 September 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for telling us what will be happening to you and the times for the events. In a small way we each will be with you. I love the positivity at the end of this (You WILL make it through!) and the impact the prehabilitation has had on you is amazing. You are an inspiration to us all. --ARoseWolf 18:04, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
And, of course, all the best wishes and emotional support from me, too! I think it's great that you are going into it with good strength and good cardiovascular health. That's important, and it's not the case for a lot of other people who get such surgery. Based on my own past experiences, I highly recommend enjoying the painkillers and relaxants – they can feel quite nice (wink). And know that I will be thinking about you. --Tryptofish (talk) 18:17, 20 September 2022 (UTC)

Bad news

People logging me out of iPad, phone, this account, disabling my wife’s phone and from inside the hospital. I’m sure of that and Bishzills and Maggie Dennis gave beeb helping me with mu iPad. Not as sure that doctors have been trying to kill me but my memories of two nights ago are very bad. Doug Weller talk 08:33, 25 September 2022 (UTC)

Very sorry to hear that Doug. Good luck. Dudley Miles (talk) 08:40, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
Doug, and everybody, I don't think this is necessarily so worrying as it sounds. After my 2011 liver transplant (memorialized in this archive), I was in and out of consciousness for several days, with extremely vivid dreams and hallucinations, many of them alarming. Among other things, I was convinced the doctors had given up all hope that I'd get any better, and were merely waiting for me to die. That was because one of them had told me so — in a hallucination — and these hallucinations just weren't possible to distinguish from reality. I didn't post my worries on Wikipedia, but I did ask my son about it. (Fortunately his visit didn't turn out to be another hallucination. Just dumb luck.) He told me quite coolly that no, he had interviewed the doctors "and if that was it, they would have said". OK, reassuring. Doug, you trust Helen. Ask her about the logging-out and the trying to kill you. Bishonen | tålk 10:18, 25 September 2022 (UTC).
Sounds really horrible and very much like my experience sorry you had to go through that. Doug Weller talk 07:23, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
"Post-operative delirium (POD) can occur from 10 minutes after anesthesia to up to 7 days in the hospital or until discharge. It is commonly recognized in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) as sudden, fluctuating, and reversible disturbance of mental status with some degree of inattention." Books have been written on it. You will soon be feeling much better, Doug. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 10:42, 25 September 2022 (UTC)

Doug, sending best wishes. I'm sure that your edits are great as always, and the doctors and nurses aren't doing anything intentionally to harm you or question you. Anesthesia and major treatments like this can be very rough on the mind and body. We're all sending you good wishes and good vibes on your recovery. If those nurses show up on wiki we'll drag them to AN/I :-) No but it's probably a scary bad dream like Bishonen said. Get some rest and don't worry about wikipedia for a couple days, it'll be here when you're feeling better. Andre🚐 17:07, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
Best wishes on your ongoing recovery, Doug. I hope and wish that it keeps going as well as the people with more experience and knowledge of the subject than me have been explaining above. Things went much much better than I expected

Despite the fact that there was more to take out that the surgeons expected. They said it was a hard complex operation but I woke up lucid and wireless pain-free which was a much better situation than my bowel cancer surgery I’ve already seen two physiotherapists and I hope that I will recover faster than I did last time. The support I’m getting from you all has helped a lot. It took me a long time to get my iPad and phone back. I am still in the high dependency ward one nurse for two patients and I’m not sure when I’m moving out of that I thought it would be today but it might not be until tomorrow. I can’t walk yet but that’s not surprising. Doug Weller talk 12:19, 22 September 2022 (UTC)

Seeming POV-pushing at Bamileke people

Hello. I'm sorry to bother you. I hope you are well. And I completely understand if you decline to address this given your recent medical issues, which I only just now found out about. I have been having a frustratingly non-productive exchange with a user who has made seemingly fringe and/or WP:UNDUE edits (some being here 47 and this 48) to the Bamileke people page with problematic sources. The user has sourced seemingly fringe claims about the ethnolinguistic origins of the Bamileke people of Cameroon claiming that they and their language derive from Ancient Egypt (that are radically at odds with what is generally held by linguists about their origin and etholinguistic affiliation and origins). The sources they have added and proposed appear to be non-peer-reviewed books (and other documents) by non-specialists, including a brief line in a paper by a non-expert, a one-page non-scholarly pdf and two non-verifiable sources. In our discussion on the Talk page (after they had restored their disputed material despite my edit summary asking them to use the Talk page instead of edit warring) they have stated that their material is also backed by other writers. However both of those writers they mention are not experts in the field (one is a translator by profession and not a published peer-reviewed expert of any academic discipline let alone a relevant one, and the other is an Egyptologist and not an expert in sub-Saharan Africa), and the writings of both are non-peer-reviewed books. The user's edits also portray their statements as though they were the dominant and established consensus when that seems to be far from the truth. I have had a long exchange with them in Talk and they seem unwilling to WP:LISTEN They have shown a tendency make assertions without citing anything and insist that their favored sources are all reliable (and even consensus) when that does not seem to be the case. It has become very frustrating. I reported them once before and WP:ANI for something similar and I fear I may have to do do again but would prefer not to. I was hoping you might be able to take a look. But, again, given everything I understand if you do not. I was thinking of also messaging USER:Austronesier because they too often edit in the area of human population history, albeit perhaps more population genetics than ethnolinguistics. I hope that would not be canvassing (I do not know their stance on the issue currently being discussed). They have at times asked me to take a look at suspicious and problematic edits on pages they watch and I believe we have had some productive exchanges.

Here is the Talk page discussion so far:

And the article's edit history for referrenc:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:History/Bamileke_people

Any response is appreciated. Get well soon

Great to hear you're back, Doug! Just a reminder: don't forget that your edit notice still says, "I'm in hospital"; at some point, you may want to change it to "I'm convalescing..." or remove it, or whatever you feel like. By the way I'm a big believer in the stress-relieving effects of humor, so watch plenty of comedy (but not if it hurts your stitches to laugh!) Here's a real oldie but a goodie, to get you started; you probably know the classic "The Four Yorkshiremen", from a precursor group to Monty Python. Enjoy, and laugh your way to health! ChutacoackoPlayz(aka SuperFlag)

You blocked this user indef over 2 years ago. They say they've grown up in the meantime and want to be unblocked. How do you feel about this one? Daniel Case (talk) 06:24, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

@Daniel Case if you think it’s ok, go ahead. Doug Weller talk 07:20, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

Snihurivka

Hi. A brand new user [51] moved the page on the Ukrainian town of Snihurivka to its Russian name version. They then moved the page again, effectively salting the original title and making it impossible to undo the move without admin tools. Not sure if this was accidental or if this is an experienced user who knows how this works so this was done purposefully. Either way, could you move the page back to its original title? The user can then do a proper RM. Thank! Volunteer Marek 01:38, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

@Volunteer Marek sorry, my last move that wasn’t straightforward made a terrible mess so I don’t think I should try! Apologies. Doug Weller talk 07:22, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

Request to return ECP user

Hi, I admit I made a mistake and apologize for it. I would like you to please consider bringing me back as an ECP user. I want to clarify as honestly as possible that I have no bad intentions, my intention is really to continue contributing to Wikipedia and make as many correct and well-founded edits as possible. If I really had bad intentions I wouldn't have continued to edit months after I was removed as an ECP user and make over 700 edits over the course of more than 8 months. I think I also deserve to be an ECP user in light of the difficult and complex edits that took me days to complete such as "wealth by country". I really ask for your forgiveness and I do think I deserve to be an ECP using the reasons I mentioned above. Thanks. Fun71528 (talk) 13:27, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

I really promise you I'm not lying. You can actually look at my edits to see I'm really asking you to reconsider that . Fun71528 (talk) 14:20, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

Using talk page to make further personal attacks

Hi Doug, I just wanted to make sure that you see my reply [56] to Francois Robere's false accusations and personal attacks on their talk page. I can 100% respect a request not to comment on another user's talk if they so wish, however, not if the said user is using that talk page to insult and attack me. WP:NPA applies to user talk pages as well as far as I'm aware. Volunteer Marek 20:52, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

Thanks. NPA does apply to talk pages. Doug Weller talk 09:44, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
