Congratulations to you first FA, The Longing! I meant to review but was too slow. When would you like it to appear as today's featured article? Can I help you with that? -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:59, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
- Yes! I'd love to have it as TFA! I was hoping for it to appear on April 14th, the day that the video game was released on Nintendo Switch. Can you help me with that? The Night Watch (talk) 19:46, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
- Yes. For the next time: the way to request something for the month to be scheduled next - which is April - is WP:TFAR. First step: check if something is requested for that day. No, nothing so far. The next step is to word a "blurb", the text that will appear on the Main page. I'll try, and you can always fix it later. Is there a picture to show? Finally comes the nomination itself. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:13, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

Page mover granted
Hello, The Night Watch. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.
Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect
is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.
Useful links:

If you do not want the page mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:13, 3 February 2023 (UTC)

Question from Dorybean (18:49, 12 April 2023)
Hi, what counts as a quality source? All/any news articles, blog posts, other websites? --Dorybean (talk) 18:49, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Dorybean Hi there! Quality sources, or more commonly referred to on Wikipedia as reliable sources, are published material written by known authors with a recorded history of accuracy, such as books/studies written by professional scholars, well-known news organizations, or others. A process known as consensus, where editors discuss the aspects of a source, is typically how we determine which sources are reliable and which ones are not. WP:RSPS is a page listing some of most commonly used sources and the current consensuses on how reliable they are, though many sources are not discussed, and you may need to ask the opinions of others to determine if they are of quality. - Well, that was a long story, invited to FAC in 2011 by Brianboulton and Tim riley, appeared as TFA in 2012, and again in 2022 on the day of the first performance, and now in OTD without me doing anything ;)
- today, however is your day: thank you for your first dip in FA country, The Longing, "about a video game that takes 400 days to complete. The good news is that you don’t need to have the game open for any of its 9600(!) hour playtime. But what’s the fun in beating a game without playing it? So for the players who want some actual gameplay, you can spend the 400 days doing…not much. You can read books from the minds of Friedrich Nietzsche or Herman Melville, walk through caves at a laughably slow pace, or watch as your character makes crude drawings of the moon, lice, or abstract concepts. Thankfully, the 400-day timer can be sped up, or you can always just ignore the deadline and help your character escape the caves. The choice is yours: Will you help the little Shade see the sun for the first time? Or will you stay and awaken the sleeping king, and make him keep his promise of "a world without longing"? This is my first FAC, so hit away. It is reliably sourced, and covers some of the principal ideas behind development, and I believe that it is just shy of the FA criteria."! - or: the gift of patience --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:12, 14 April 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Kingdom-two-crowns-logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You can begin assembling your article using Article wizard, and reading some of the guidelines highlighted in blue. For specialized help, WPTC may have some editors who may be better able to organize and critique the article for an eventual nomination. I noticed a vandaliser, what should I do ? --AravindEditor (talk) 07:48, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @AravindEditor. If you spot an instance of vandalism, the best practice is to revert to an earlier revision of the page before the vandalism occurred. WP:RVAN is the policy detailing the methods on how to respond to most instances of vandalism. See the "For Beginners" section of that paragraph and follow the five steps to respond to vandalism. If you need any clarification of a concept, please ask me. The Night Watch (talk) 13:37, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023
Hello Fathoms Below,
Backlog
Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.
Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.
Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.
You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.
Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

my story today |
Good news! - On today's Main page, you can find a cantata that Bach first performed 300 years ago (thanks to you!), and an iconic saxophonist from East Germany. Also: a bit about the history of QAI on my talk. Thank you for being part of it! A new member designed a user box that I adopted. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:07, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
While today's DYK highlights Santiago on his day, I did my modest share with my story today, describing what I just experienced, pictured. I began the article of the woman in green. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:24, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
journalism and news reporting
news reporting is not same as journalism. it is a subfield of journalism. while subfields like correspondent have article in wikipedia news reporting should have too. so journalism is not just news reporting. it can be in other worlds. like music journalism . please do not delete news reporting article. Wikijournalistt (talk) 22:10, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
- It is the exact same thing as journalism or even News reporting, the definitions in News reporting and Journalism are functionally identical. That article is effectively a Wikipedia:POVFORK. Please stop creating POVFORKS on types of journalism, MrOllie has already warned you about this. The Night Watch (talk) 22:45, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
Question from AccForKoshutin (15:14, 9 August 2023)
I made this account for the sole purpose of making a page for a very nice developer - Konstantin Koshutin, I may contribute to other pages but this one is the goal, very nice --AccForKoshutin (talk) 15:14, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- know what? nevermind, we'll just sporadically contribute, or I'll just abandon this acc, let's not trouble the man, it's not notable after all, at least not for the wider audience AccForKoshutin (talk) 15:29, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
Question from Xmln.195 (15:25, 9 August 2023)
Hi menter, I wanted to ask if me or you can ask to create a new page on language that I can't speak (for example Dutch, Hungarian, Polish etc.) because I don't want to do something wrong so I have to ask people that can speak the language and is active here. --Xmln.195 (talk) 15:25, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Xmln.195 I'm not too familiar with asking to create articles on foreign language Wikipedias. Maybe the Wikipedia:Help desk can give you some advice on how to contact Wikipedians who are active on Non-English wikis. The Night Watch (talk) 21:20, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
Promotion of Five Nights at Freddy's (video game)
The August 2023 Good Article Nominations Backlog Drive is at the halfway mark, and has seen incredible progress, dropping the backlog from 638 to 359 unreviewed articles -- a 43.7% reduction in only fifteen days! But we still have over two weeks to go, and there are plenty of articles left to review:
- We've gone from 14 nominations 270+ days old and 65 nominations 180+ days old to 2 and 0 respectively. No more articles will reach 270+ status during the drive, and only three more will reach 180+ if unreviewed, so this is your last chance to get the higher age bonuses!
- We still have plenty of articles in the 90+ range, but the list is shrinking fast.
- Some articles need new reviewers, either because they're officially on second opinion or because the original reviews were deleted or invalidated. You can help prevent these articles from waiting longer!
- While there are starting to be clear favourites for the Content Review Medal of Merit, the field is still very open. A late entrant can still pull an upset to get the most reviews in the drive!
And remember: if you've done reviews, you should log them at the backlog drive page for points, so they can be tracked towards your awards at the end.
Thanks for signing up for the drive, and I hope to see you reviewing! Vaticidalprophet 02:01, 15 August 2023 (UTC)

Thank you today for Kingdom Two Crowns, "about a strategy game made back in 2018. It’s the third game in a franchise called Kingdom, and it was the last one in which the original creator was involved. It basically replicates everything from the two previous games, except it made things slightly easier and gives you a way to permanently eradicate the monsters. Oh, and multiplayer was added too I guess."! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:06, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
Enjoy your second TFA! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:50, 9 August 2023 (UTC)

This too shall pass. - Ten years ago on 28 August, I heard a symphony, with a heavy heart because of the pending decision in WP:ARBINFOBOX, and not worried about my future here but Andy's. - It passed, and I could write the DYK about calling to dance, not battle, and Andy could write the DYK mentioning about peace and reconciliation, - look. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:48, 28 August 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Kingdom Rush
On 14 September 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Kingdom Rush, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the success of Kingdom Rush prompted plans to grow the video game industry of Uruguay? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Kingdom Rush. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Kingdom Rush), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Five Nights at Freddy's Page (Finding Sources)
Hello Night Watch, it's Rainbow Runner. I appreciate you trying to have good faith when it comes to making sure the information has proper and reliable sources. I likewise have tried as hard as I could to ensure the sources I provided meet that criteria. I also have got to wonder if there is a way to cite the video game directly, since they are sources in of themselves. I know that actual entertainment material (movies, books, and games) might not be easy to cite, but even if there was a specific review of them elsewhere on the Internet.
Anyways, I apologize if it seemed like my consistent edits were leaving a negative impression. I certainly want to be a good user and refrain from any destructive behavior such as edit warring. That said, I certainly felt that adding the mention of the custom night in the gameplay section was warranted, given the divine impact it has made on the FNAF series as a whole (most notably with Ultimate Custom Night).
Thanks for reading and understanding. I wanted to do my best to ease any tensions our disagreements may have caused and make things right. RainbowRunner2000 (talk) 01:52, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
- @RainbowRunner2000 You didn't leave a negative impression, quite the opposite! I'm a bit shocked and disappointed that I could not find a quality source for custom night in the gameplay section, but I did mention it in plot because it was an important part of that game's story, and we can cite the game itself for plot points. Though I think the IGN source may also be not the best considering it is from that site's wiki, which is user-generated. I only learned that after I accidentally cited the IGN wiki in an article myself :). I think I'll try looking for another one for custom night, maybe some deeper searching will help. Anyways, I appreciate that you did some searching, and I am so sorry if I came across as disagreeable to you. The Night Watch (talk) 01:59, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
- I've been thinking about it a lot. I guess you're right about how hard it may be to find a reliable source which mentions custom night. How there is a reliable source provided which mentions Night 6 but not custom night is quite beyond me. I believe there is a way to cite the game itself. Therefore, would it be feasible to use that as my reliable source when mentioning custom night in the gameplay section? I also have looked at the criteria page about the stuff needed for an article to be featured. While reliable sources are among that, it also says to not neglect any major facts or details. I just don't want there to be some inconsistencies with the content. If all of the nights are mentioned in the plot section, the same should apply to gameplay too. I've been wanting to make this work so badly. RainbowRunner2000 (talk) 12:51, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
- @RainbowRunner2000 I don't know exactly why the reliable sources omit custom night either. I've never seen a gameplay section on a FA that has content sourced to the game itself, but plot sections can technically cite the game as a primary source (WP:VG/PLOT). I did not want to neglect custom night so I used the plot section to mention it because it is considered part of the story. Since I am unsure if the game itself can be cited for gameplay, you might try opening a discussion on Talk:Five Nights at Freddy's (video game) to ask page watchers if it is feasible. I don't think citing the game itself will be allowed, but I'd like to see what other users have to say. Though perhaps that one game guide written by the FNAF franchise might be acceptable since it is a primary source and the manual of style allows game guides. New pages patrol newsletter
Hello Fathoms Below,
Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!
October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.
PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.
Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.
Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.

Question from KevinkressROC (14:26, 29 September 2023)
Hello, mentors! Long time fan of Wikipedia here, but first time creating an account.
I did an edit just now and hope it is OK.
The back story is that I am in the U.S.A. but a friend of mine recently visited Italy and gave me a small souvenir of a boar's head. Curious, I read a little bit more of this on Wikipedia to undertand more of its origins. I frequently vacation myself in Las Vegas, NV, and see a much, much larger version of this boar's head at a casino-brewery-hotel I frequent.
Well, the boar's head I have seen in Las Vegas, NV, is a copy of the original. The page I edited did not have this stated-- though numerous other copies were documented. I merely added the Las Vegas, NV location.
It was interesting to leran more of its history (the original, that is). Thanks, Wikipedia.
Hope my edit is OK. I thought about using hypertext or maybe a footnote to the below article, but I'm not sure if that is allowed or not. But, in any case, below is some supporting documentation that backs up my edit.
Thanks for reading and the work you do!
