Question from PATRICK FAX ADJOTOR (11:32, 26 October 2023)
Hi and good day .....i kindly want to know how long did it take you to become a professional editor and can you share some challenges faced? --PATRICK FAX ADJOTOR (talk) 11:32, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @PATRICK FAX ADJOTOR! It took me about a month or two before I decided to become a professional editor. I faced numerous challenges mostly around learning certain PAGs, especially as I was writing articles and getting involved in very complicated administrative areas like New pages patrol and countervandalism. All editors make mistakes, especially long-term ones, but as I sometimes struggled understanding policies and guidelines, I've tried my best to own up to my shortcomings and meet the challenges in the future. The Night Watch (talk) 14:35, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thats awesome.....resilience kept you pushing harder. Challenges are bound to occur but we have to learn from that process. im highly impresses and hope to add write up & editing to my career. I'm highly inspired Boss & stay blesssed. PATRICK FAX ADJOTOR (talk) 07:37, 27 October 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for improving articles in October! - Today, it's a place that inspired me, musings if you have time. My corner for memory and music has today a juxtaposition of what our local church choirs offer. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:15, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
Thank you today for Five Nights at Freddy's (video game), "about a horror video game that had an...interesting impact on internet culture. It spawned a media franchise with several sequels and spinoff media, and created an...interesting fanbase that remains to this day. The first game was described by the creator as a "lightning in a bottle", and had a generally positive response even as its sequels were less warmly received. I've been working on this article for a few weeks, and have included the best sourcing that I can find."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:21, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
I hope you enjoy TFA day! - Towards the end of the month, I thought of Brian Bouldton, and his ways to compromise, - with musings about peace there, - feel free to join. Hevenu shalom aleichem. Today is also Reformation Day, and I believe that reformation is a work in progress. When the DYK of today's story was on the Main page in 2012, it was the only reformation-related hook ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:04, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

Peer review input for Hogwarts Legacy
Hello @The Night Watch, in April you reviewed the GAN process of Hogwarts Legacy, so I was hoping that you have some time to skim the article for possible further improvements before I send it to FAC. I checked the old notes of your GAN review and everything should be fine since then. The article was copyedited by GOCE, so the peer review would be my final step before submitting it (Peer review page). Vestigium Leonis (talk) 12:01, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

How do I make texts blue? --Bukashamba (talk) 19:36, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Bukashamba Text turns blue when there is a wikilink on it (such as this blue text). A wikilink can be created using bracketed text "[[]]", such as typing in "[[Snail]]" will create the wikilink Snail and direct you to the associated Wikipedia article. Draft approvation about videogame Zula Global
Hello, can you help me with my draft Draft:Zula Global? My submission has been declined. You mentioned I hadn't included character trivia, but I actually did by referencing the game's official website. You also considered the Steam page unreliable, but it contains the same information as the official site and was created by the company itself. Furthermore, there isn't any additional information online besides the Steam page and the official website. It's just a simple video game. 2001:B07:646B:5D96:B505:CC55:ABE8:8C78 (talk) 17:25, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi 2001:B07:646B:5D96:B505:CC55:ABE8:8C78. References to Steam and the official website are not sufficient to meet the general notability guideline for article inclusion of Wikipedia. The GNG basically means that an article needs reliable, independent sources that provide significant (not just passing) mentions of the subject. Steam is considered insufficient as a source as it is a sales platform and not a reliable source, and the official website of the game is not an independent source from the subject. Typically, when creating video game articles, finding reviews for said articles from publications is how we source an article and help it meet notability guidelines. You can try searching for reviews through the WP:VGSE, a search engine that helps find sources from reliable outlets. If you have any specific questions or any concepts you would like me to clarify, please do ask. The Night Watch (talk) 01:12, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Tails Wx 14:31, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Question from MartySpeaker (16:28, 1 December 2023)
I have reviewed an article called "Orthopedic Foundation for Animals" at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Orthopedic_Foundation_for_Animals&gesuggestededit=1 and would like to suggest edits. I have placed edits in an MS Word document with tracking. How can I submit suggested edits? I appreciate your help. --MartySpeaker (talk) 16:28, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @MartySpeaker, you can suggest changes by making edit requests. You could try editing the page yourself, but if you wish to suggest changes instead, you can take a look at the blue-linked page that I inserted above for some instructions on how to insert a request on the article's talk page. If you have any specific questions, please do ask! The Night Watch (talk) 16:32, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you. I will check the link this weekend. By the way I love your Username.
- I am a rookie at Wikipedia, but I love research and communications. I have served as an editor for a national college magazine, and my career included writing. I am interested in Wikipedia because I often see things that could be improved or added.
- However, I’m not sure I should do this and would like your input.
- You are experienced. What do you like about it? What do you like the most? What do you like the least? If I choose to continue, do you have suggestions on what I should avoid or perhaps, where I can add the most value?
- It takes a long time for me to write or edit. I’m good at collaborating with people face-to-face. But I am a perfectionist and may have too many edits that may “hurt” peoples’ feelings. Being online, I cannot “read” a person's body language. Therefore, I cannot encourage or help them as I normally would do when face-to-face.
- Do you have other suggestions?
- Thank you. MartySpeaker (talk) 17:52, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
- @MartySpeaker What I like about Wikipedia that I can share my writings with a larger audience. I have a hidden love for writing for fun and sharing what I make with others. What I like best about Wikipedia is that some of the articles that I helped write were actually cited and used by other people on websites like YouTube. Helping other people find good information just makes me feel happy! Another experience I liked was when the developer of the video game The Longing actually reached out to me on social media to thank me for my help with improving that Wikipedia article.
- As with every major website, Wikipedia has its own flaws. Editors from every walk of life join here to contribute, and there are a few users who can act a bit uptight or grumpy in conversations, which is not always helped due to a lack of face to face contact. Occasionally someone may get into a dispute with you, and it may be a little stressful, though most disputes are over petty things like grammar or sentence structure.
- If you do continue, I would always try to keep a cool head and remember to take breaks if you feel like you are getting too stressed. I would also refrain from working in Maintenance unless you are interested in getting involved with site administration, because maintenance matters are where the most heated discussions crop up, and editors are spitting about a dizzying number of policies and guidelines. I would instead try to work on writing articles with good citations in an area you like, and perhaps reading the rules index in your spare time. I like writing about video games, and have made some good articles (indicated by the green plus signs on my page, you can click on them if you like.) on some that particularly interest me. Perhaps you have an area that you like? Try being bold and making some improvements! There is also the teahouse a place where you can ask other users questions when I am not always around. Some very distinguished and seasoned users gather there, and I ask a question there myself every now and then. The Night Watch (talk) 20:57, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

Question from Andrea Expert (07:56, 4 December 2023)
Hello! I wanted to update information about the daughter of the former president of Kazakhstan and her personal financial condition. The information is published in Forbes (https://www.forbes.ru/forbes-woman/373671-kak-dariga-nazarbaeva-perezhila-opalu-i-smert-muzha-i-chut-bylo-ne-stala). My phrase that I wanted to add: "Dariga Nazarbayeva is one of the richest women in Kazakhstan. In 2013, Kazakhstan's Forbes estimated her assets at $595 million." However, Wikipedia does not allow me to enter this data. Please help me. --Andrea Expert (talk) 07:56, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Andrea Expert Where did you try to enter this information? Also, is the author of that article a Forbes staff member? If the author is a staff member, the source can be used to cite that information, but if the author is a contributor, Wikipedia would consider that an unreliable source and could not be included. The Night Watch (talk) 14:53, 4 December 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the measured comments at RFA. I did not want to muck up that RFA oppose thread with more comments. I agree with you about edit quality or significant edits. Sadly nobody can get past the edit count component of my oppose to read the more significant concern. Which is clover has zero need for the tools. Imagine if I applied for page mover with zero page move experience and I say give me the page mover perm and I will find pages to move. Lightburst (talk) 22:01, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Lightburst There is no shame being in the minority or standing alone, and I do find merit in your position that she by by her own admission in Q1 does not have an overwhelming need for the tools. However, judging by her relatively prolific new page patrol log and semi-active editing over on xtools, and no recent incidents that demonstrate significant behavioral issues, there is no reason for me to believe that granting the tools will cause any major problems. I also saw that she was able to create an article from scratch and bring it to GA, which is enough content work to make me believe that she will not punish or bite any content creators. But of course you are entitled to your opinion, and I am appreciative how you think of content creators first when !voting. It seems like some other !voters treat content creation as an afterthought rather than a trait of paramount importance. The Night Watch (talk) 22:28, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks, I can change the vote as well if I discover that I am wrong. I saw that they were a content creator and that is admirable, but I thought they should demonstrate a need. FYI: they revealed their age here so they will be an admin for roughly the next 8 decades. Lightburst (talk) 22:42, 13 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello, The Night Watch! I have created a new article about the university. Translated from German. The original is here: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synergy_University . I tried to send it for verification from the sandbox, but it doesn't work. Writes: "An error occurred (ratelimited: You've exceeded your rate limit. Please wait some time and try again.). Edwin Lubinda how to I successfully publish a page --Edwin Lubinda (talk) 14:56, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Edwin Lubinda! Publishing an article on Wikipedia is a bit tricky for a new user such as yourself, and I recommend trying to learn some of the rules before working on making your page. I suggest taking a look at Help:Contents for some of the concepts and ideas behind how Wikipedia is managed before attempting to create an article. Any specific questions that you have in mind? Go ahead and ask me. The Night Watch (talk) 17:48, 6 January 2024 (UTC)

Video game genre-related question
Hello. Sorry for this super random message. I have a quick question about a video game (Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Wrath of the Darkhul King). The coverage on the game goes back and forth between calling it a platformer and an action game. I would personally call it a platformer. I find it difficult to call something an action game if a majority of the actual combat could be skipped. That is just my opinion though of course.
I was not sure how to best approach this situation as I have little experience working with video game articles. I went with calling it an action platformer after I saw that redirect, I put in a note about how the coverage on the game's genre varied. Do you think that is the course of action? If not, what would you suggestion? This is likely just a case of me way over-thinking it.
Sorry again for this completely out of left field question, but I just saw your FAC for Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment , which inspired me to reach out and ask since that is also a platformer. It has been something in the back of my mind since I put it in the article. Admittedly, I should have either reached out to editors experienced with video game articles or posted on WikiProject Video games's talk page before nominating the article for a FAC. I hope you are having a good day/night so far. Aoba47 (talk) 00:38, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Aoba47 Hi there. Since it seems that most of the sources either call it a platform game or an action game, I think it would be totally fine to call it an "action-platformer" as a hybrid genre. Some other games use this type of hybrid approach like Dead Cells being called a roguelike-metroidvania. And I would keep the note on the varied genre so that readers can understand the varied labels given to this game. I think you approached the genre just fine and totally didn't overthink it! The Night Watch (talk) 01:44, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the response. I appreciate the confirmation that I made the right call. I wanted to double-check as this is outside of my usual area of expertise. Aoba47 (talk) 03:12, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

John Cusack
I added a direct quoted tweet (X message) from John Cusack that illustrates his level of anti-Jew discourse. Why is that "disruptive". Mr. Cusack has been calling Jews "ghouls" on X and has even been endorsing "blood libel" messages accusing Israeli people of stealing skin and organs from prisoners. He is widely being called out as antisemitic on social media by hundreds if not thousands of people. Why is it disruptive to include that controversy on the page, while his previous antisemitic tweet is included, as is his commentary on the Hamas-Israeli war? John Cusack has over a million followers on X and is highly influential. Why are his anti-Jew posts considered irrelevant? Psycholing (talk) 09:18, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Psycholing I did not revert you, that was someone else. I reverted the part saying that he was an antisemite by occupation, which violates NPOV The Night Watch (talk) 19:53, 21 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi The Night Watch, thanks for participating in the WikiCup. Unfortunately, Template:Did you know nominations/Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment is not eligible for DYK points because it was nominated to DYK as a newly promoted GA. I know this can be disappointing, but Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring#Did you know? states that only newly created or expanded DYKs are eligible for DYK points. how do i edit my user page profile to make it look like a guy interested in indian history --Shakib ul hassan (talk) 11:07, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi there @Shakib ul hassan. I'm not the most knowledgable when its comes to decorating user pages, but you may try and add a paragraph about yourself as being interested in Indian history, and what era that you enjoy the most. Or you could ask the teahouse and some users there may be able to help you gain some more elaborate decorations for your page. The Night Watch (talk) 20:40, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

Editor of the Week | ||
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week in recognition of your great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project) |
User:Prodraxis submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:
- I would like to nominate The Night Watch for Editor of the Week for their excellent mainspace and maintenance work. The Night Watch is a member of WikiProject Video Games, and some of their best works include Kingdom Two Crowns, Five Nights at Freddy's (video game) and The Longing. They have also contributed significantly to five other GA's and 4 DYK's in addition to the three FA's mentioned above. Not only this, but The Night Watch also spends a good amount of their time working at New Pages Patrol, closing Requested Moves and cleaning up vandalism. They are a remarkable editor in many ways and I wouldn't be surprised if they become an administrator sometime.

Question from Biggest Roo (01:43, 30 January 2024)
I want to create an article about my religion Roo. I am the founder and creator of it and have suffered socially ever since its creation in 2023. Many people have been misrepresenting me, and I would like to have at least one wikipedia article that is written and edited by me and only me on the subject of my religion. --Biggest Roo (talk) 01:43, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Biggest Roo. We can only have an article on your religion if there have been good, independent sources reporting on it such as reputable newspapers or books. Simply because your religion exists and that you founded it does not mean that it qualifies for an article. Without good sources, your article would most likely be deleted and I would advise against creating material on your religion unless other people have reported on it. The Night Watch (talk) 01:52, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- If you don't want me here, I'm out I spoke in honest good faith. Biggest Roo (talk) 01:54, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- Of course I want you here @Biggest Roo! The hard part is that Wikipedia can't include content unless it has been published in the aforementioned good sources. Since we are an encyclopedia, we try to keep our created material up to a verifiable standard which means that some things cannot be reported on unless they are adequately covered. Perhaps instead of trying to create an article about your religion, you could find an already existing article to add information on. What subjects interest you?
