Dropidas

Hi, thanks for the message. I do not see why you deleted the page Dropidas, great-grandfather of Critias, and perhaps brother of Solon. There was useful information in the page alone that is not contained anywhere in the the Plato page. Anyone searching for Dropidas will find no useful information by being redirected to Plato. Please explain your reasoning for clarification. Best. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ScythianRider (talkcontribs) 03:39, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

@ScythianRider: as it was, the article didn't seem to establish why he was notable. He may be, but you have to remember that notability is not inherited. If you think he truly does merit an article of his own, I suggest starting a draft (which will need sources, possibly from Google Books?) and submitting the draft for peer review via the articles for creation process. This will provide you with more detailed feedback to help you improve the article. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 03:48, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

Yes, I had included references. Was including a second when you deleted the page. Both were found on google books. The information was valid, as Dropidas is the messenger of large chunks of passages which Critias then passes on to Plato. The passages were referenced down to the page, with the citation provided. I appreciate your advice, however, I believe the page was deleted prematurely. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ScythianRider (talkcontribs) 03:54, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

@ScythianRider: the content was not, in fact, deleted, which means that you can still recover the material you had previously written to start your draft. It can be found in the page history, specifically in this revision. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 13:57, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

deletion of page

hi, i started to create a page of a notable musician, Shakila Ahmed and it was tagged under speedy deletion. i did not realise while creating a page it can be read by people. i thought i had to get it published first! there are plenty of published material on the singer as a credible personality, deserving a wiki page. i would welcome any suggestion how to go about making the page happen. meanwhile, should i retry with sandbox? thank u! TumharaishqTumharaishq (talk) 17:58, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi Tumharaishq. The page was visible for anyone to see as soon as you hit "save page" (you could have kept working on it without publishing if you had hit "show preview" instead) and I found it via the new pages log. If the subject of your article meets the notability criteria, creating an article in your sandbox and submitting it for review through the articles for creation process would be the best way to go. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 18:13, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

thank u. will go the sandbox way! tumharaishqTumharaishq (talk) 20:59, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Native youth Sexual health network

Hello G S Palmer, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Native youth Sexual health network, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: See CBC source. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. The WordsmithTalk to me 23:08, 13 December 2014 (UTC)A

Speedy deletion of Blue Northern

I have asked that the redirection of Blue Northern to Bill Cowsill be reconsidered and I am asking that the speedy deletion also be reconsidered. The cited profile of the band in canadianbands.com, plus other citations readily searchable, should indicate that this band was more than notable for its Cowsill association, paraticularly in terms of its recording and label history, plus Juno Award nomination, not yet discussed. The page was in the process of development, and so indicated. Please give me time to develop this further.

Displaytitle

I don't think having the displaytitle on talk pages is necessary. I would rather not encourage its proliferation because I don't think it should become a characteristic of talk pages and ultimately lead editors to think that they need to devote time to adding this attribute everywhere. If you want to make this widespread, I would suggest having a discussion at WT:FILM to see if others agree. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 17:17, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

@Erik: I don't see it as a big deal. I don't go around adding it to talk pages: if I create a page, I include it, and if I am already editing a page, then sometimes I will add one. I'm not asking anyone else to do it, nor am I pushing for it to become common practice (after all, we don't need more bureaucracy). I fail to see how any harm is being done by my adding it to a few talk pages in passing. Thanks, G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 17:26, 27 December 2014 (UTC)
That's fine, but my concern is that someone will take that approach and run with it. It is purely aesthetic, so any actual effort to make it widespread may result in a backlash consensus to remove it from all talk pages so there is no confusion about whether or not to be applying that cosmetic feature. Maybe this won't happen, but I guess we will see. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 17:35, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

Asami Sato pic

Hey, I just wanted to say that I'm not trying to step on you or something. I just really don't think that's a good representative picture (being accurate only to Book 4), and also, it's tiny - it doesn't really enlarge any, which is a bit of a minus. So that's where I'm coming from. BUT! I'm not trying to kick it out - I tagged you on purpose on the fair use orphaning, so you'd know. And now knowing that you really want it in there, I've added more to the caption (for context) and adjusted the position (to make it more illustrative of Book 4, from which it came) with the intent to make having both photos in the article supportable as fair use. I hope that works for you. Solarbird (talk) 07:45, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

My bad! Commented on wrong talk page, sorry. Solarbird (talk) 07:58, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

Regarding your edit on Asami Sato

Wikipedia clearly states that all edits must be verifiable by legitimate sources. Just so there isn't an edit war, should you find sources that clearly show the creators confirming the claims, then you're welcome to add it back in. Until then, it is NOT fact and shouldn't be added just because a fan of the show thinks it to be fact. (Dubcity4 (talk) 20:32, 7 January 2015 (UTC))

@Dubcity4: I've been editing Wikipedia for well over a year now, so I am well versed in most of the important policies. This entire debate has already been settled on Talk:Korra - for specific sources see Talk:Korra#The_Big_List_of_Korra-Asami_Relationship_Sources, which was put together by multiple editors, myself not included. While you may not think that that was the implied ending of the show, I assure you that you are almost certainly alone in that belief. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 20:41, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
I've been editing wikipedia for years now, and your 'justification' for the edit just isn't how editing works. The only thing confirmed by the creators of the show, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, is that Asami and Korra are dating at the season finale (and I've left anything mentioning this on there). It has nothing to do with what I think is the implied ending of the show or how you or any of the editors interpret the ending. As I said earlier, wikipedia edits must be verified by legitimate sources. In terms of the story or how the story should be interpreted, only the creators can verify anything story related. The current references to their tumblr pages do not confirm any of the statements or claims made before my edit, hence why the edit was made. Should you find any sources (interviews, their tumblr page, behind the scenes commentaries) where the creators specifically confirm any particular details, feel free to add them in. As long as you include the references with your edit. (Dubcity4 (talk) 21:01, 7 January 2015 (UTC))
@Dubcity4: My comment was not meant to touch on the length of your editing career. However, I would appreciate it if you didn't cite policies I already know at me as if I were a newbie. I hope you find the current version more to your liking. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 21:11, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
My apologies (I didn't mean it that way). And no, the current edit still fails to meet wikipedia editing guidelines. I'll be more clear with the problems I have with it. 1)It has never been confirmed that Korra and Asami are bi by the creators (Yes, I read through all previous references). Also, there is nothing in those sources to suggest that Korra and Asami are the first major LGBT characters in a western cartoon. The only thing confirmed is that they're are dating. Any other interpretations are just the interpretations of fans. (Dubcity4 (talk) 21:20, 7 January 2015 (UTC))
@Dubcity4: whatever, I'll let you duke it out with those more passionate about the subject than I. However, it was confirmed (by Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino, the creators) that the couple were, well, a couple. Now for the claim that they are the first LGBT couple to be represented in Western animation. The USA Today source says, and I quote: "We just had the first lesbian (bisexual?) couple on a Nickelodeon animated series." The IBT source calls the show "the first ever children's show to have projected a lesbian relationship". And the Vanity Fair source says "sure, there are shows that are more explicit and progressive when depicting same-sex couples. But those are adult shows. [...] American kids’ shows have a long way to go before L.G.B.T. story lines are considered a matter of course. And none of those examples above quite match Korra and Asami’s climactic spirit portal moment." Forgive me, but I fail to see how this doesn't support the claims in the article. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 21:33, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
The ibtimes says that "This is PROBABLY the first ever children's show to have projected a lesbian relationship and fans have mixed reactions about the shocking twist.". 'Probably' isn't the same as a confirmed fact and therefore cannot be used as a verifiable source. The claim here is that the Legend of Korra is the first western animation to feature major characters that are LGBT. This isn't true as Paranorman and the Simpsons did it before the Legend of Korra. Also, being a couple doesn't confirm that they're bisexual. (Dubcity4 (talk) 21:51, 7 January 2015 (UTC))
@Dubcity4: if you want to discuss the matter further, please continue at Talk:Asami Sato#First major acknowledged LGBT couple in western children's animation, a thread I opened to centralize this discussion. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 21:55, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
@Dubcity4: also, I presume you are aware of WP:3RR - you are in danger of violating that rule. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 21:59, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

Doctor Who Series 9 - Block One

Hello, my (and many other users) edits to this Doctor Who page over the past few days have been continuously reverted. It was confirmed last week by Doctor Who Magazine that Block One of filming consisted of episodes 3 and 4 (I happen to have the magazine myself and know this to be true). This information was fully sourced and nobody seemed to have a problem with it being included in the page. Yet on Wednesday, it was confirmed that Toby Whithouse, Daniel O'Hara and Derek Ritchie would be respectively writing, directing and producing this production block. We know (as stated by the BBC) that the episodes in Block One are written by Whithouse. We know that Block One is episodes 3 and 4 from DWM. Therefore Toby Whithouse is writing episodes 3 and 4. Is there something that I've missed or does this make complete sense? --86.134.246.132 (talk) 16:15, 16 January 2015 (UTC)

@86.134.246.132: sorry, it doesn't work that way - that's synthesis. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 17:00, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
Alright I suppose this does make sense, thanks. Although surely both things cancel each other out? By this WP:SYNTH thing we can have either piece of information in the production box. It would still be correct if Whithouse, O'Hara and Ritchie were included in the Block 1 row without the note of "Episode 3 and 4", and yet it would still be correct if the info was reversed (i.e if "Episode 3 and 4" were listed without mentioning the production staff) as it is at this current moment in time. --86.134.246.132 (talk) 22:23, 16 January 2015 (UTC)

@BeginnerW: I think I see what the problem was. If I'm understanding you, I think this edit of mine may have fixed the problem. Does it? G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 16:36, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Yung Trace

It is a huge sockpuppet report-but I have no clue who started it is the problem. But I also tagged Dao Ranaldo as well. Wgolf (talk) 02:19, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

@Wgolf: I noticed that a few similar pages had been G5ed, but I figured it would be simpler to just tag for A7, since I didn't really feel like making a SPI report. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 02:23, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

Ibrahim Halawa article deletion

Hi GS Palmer. I understand that my recent entry on Ibrahim Halawa has been deleted due to the article being unsuitable. I only started the article today and that is why I was so short and not up to standards. Ive already contacted the facebook group for Ibrahim to try and get more volunteers to help create the article in more detail. I think that him and his case are noteworthy enough to deserve a Wikipedia entry. His case is related to the "Al Jazeera 3" journalist who where in prison in Egypt, although he is not one of those 3. One of those 3, which he shared a cell with, Peter Greste, already has his own entry. This case has already been covered by major UK news outlets such as; the BCC http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-31155557 The Guardian http://www.theguardian.com/media/greenslade/2015/jan/02/why-a-retrial-could-be-the-best-outcome-for-the-al-jazeera-three The Independent http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/ibrahim-halawa-irish-teenager-faces-execution-in-egypt-after-attending-prodemocracy-rally-10081009.html Channel 4 News http://blogs.channel4.com/alex-thomsons-view/fears-irish-teenager-ibrahim-halawa-bars-egypt/9311 And Irelands paper of record The Irish Times http://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/africa/peter-greste-deportation-renews-hope-for-ibrahim-halawa-1.2087470 as well as the Irish state broadcaster RTÉ http://www.rte.ie/news/2015/0426/696814-ibrahim-halawa/ and the Amnesty International campaign which I linked to in the article http://www.amnesty.ie/content/egypt-court-try-494-people-over-protests I think the national broadcaster of two countries pull several major newspapers, a direct connection to a widely cover international event and an Amnesty International campaign qualifies as a person of note. If there is no other reason not to can I go ahead and reactivate the article and begin work on it or would you prefer that I, and other volunteers, start work on it in my sandbox until it is more up to standards? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ultan42 (talkcontribs) 06:31, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

@Ultan42: The issue here is not a lack of coverage, as you have clearly demonstrated, but rather something else. The real problem (in my eyes) is that he is notable only for a single event. In cases such as this, it is usually preferable not to have a Wikipedia article on the subject. However, if you still want to make an article about him, then you should definitely begin by drafting in your sandbox, and then submit the draft for review via the articles for creation process.
