why your edits are reverted in that page is to follow the style of others. see for example JoĂŁo FĂ©lix and JoĂŁo Cancelo. In the lede "and the Portugal national team" is mentioned as in the vast majority of pages where a player has actively played for one. TheOneSome1 (talk) 22:00, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

Seconded. The comma after "on loan from... RB Leipzig," sufficiently indicates that he is only on loan from RB Leipzig, not from the German national team as you said it suggests. Profavi1 (talk) 22:34, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
@Profavi1: Nope, you're creating a sentence list, loan is the first instance for the list sentence structure. You can't loan from a national team, so therefor, the text needs to be written differently. Govvy (talk) 22:37, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
without the words between commas it would be "plays as a forward for Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur and the Germany national team" though TheOneSome1 (talk) 22:42, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
@TheOneSome1: Are you following the two objects of the football club and the national team in the sentence after the subject of the loan? I don't see that as good grammar, do you? Govvy (talk) 22:49, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
Doesn't matter what you see, it's objectively correct English, please stop reverting the edits. Profavi1 (talk) 22:51, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
@Govvy in your edits some could go as far as thinking as he's on loan from a club called "RB Leipzig and is also a member of the Germany national team" though TheOneSome1 (talk) 22:59, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
@Govvy That's literally not true mate, commas are used for things other than lists! In this case, the commas indicate a subordinate clause. The commas are saying "Timo Werner... plays as a forward for Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur – on loan from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig – and the Germany national team". Alternatively, imagine it says "for Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur (on loan from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig) and the Germany national team". In the article, the commas fulfil the function of the dashes/brackets in the two examples I've just given you. It doesn't create a list. Profavi1 (talk) 22:50, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
Using the subordinate clause "on loan from
" is a phrasing we frequently use for loans. It's correct grammar. Robby.is.on (talk) 22:59, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
@Robby.is.on: on loan from isn't the problem, it's the second object with no thought of the prose between the first object to split the sentence. Simply adding a comma, doesn't split from the subject at the beginning of the sentence. And there is certainly no period splitting the two. The start of the sentence is the loan, you've added the national team into that sentence of the loan. Govvy (talk) 23:06, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
@Govvy Like Profavi1 said, imagine if the commas were brackets. They would function the same, just that they're brackets, not commas. They would clarify the sentence but if with brackets it's correct then so with commas. TheOneSome1 (talk) 23:31, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
@Govvy It most simply does... please familiarise yourself with rules of the English language! Profavi1 (talk) 00:20, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
@Profavi1: Please don't be rude, I don't believe you went to Oxford either. @TheOneSome1: Please don't message my talk page again, I don't trust you, as you appear to be a suck puppet. Too many shenanigans going on here. Govvy (talk) 17:03, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

"Socks"

"It's clear to me that these editors have no interest in having correct sentence structure." Maybe, @Govvy, you should take a look at the pages of every single other footballer on loan, and notice how their opening sentences are all parsed in the exact same way as in Werner's article, and realise that maybe it's you that is wrong, instead of every other Wikipedia editor being a "sock".

And I don't really care whether or not some stubborn Wikipedian who doesn't understand basic English believes what university I attend. Good day to you!

(P.S., here is a BBC Bitesize article explaining the use of the commas in the sentence. I hope this provides some clarity.) Profavi1 (talk) 17:09, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

Seriously, leave me alone. TheOneSome1 is clearly a sock to me, and you, Stop, you're being very insulting. Govvy (talk) 17:15, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

Zarlor Mercenary DYK

Hello! I've noticed that you nominated the Zarlor Mercenary for the DYK, but per WP:DYKRULES, the article must be new enough, and I don't see how it was considerably expanded within the seven days preceding this nomination. Deltaspace42 (talk ‱ contribs) 19:00, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

@Deltaspace42:   I'd thought it would be a fun DYK, I see those discriminatory type of rules. It's one of my favourite games of all time. I just wanted to share.   Govvy (talk) 21:47, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

You should check out Wikipedia Library!

You should definitely check out Wikipedia Library, if you haven't recently. I gather that some long-time editors tried it in the early days but the functionality and resources it offers now are truly priceless (and could save you money if you are finding it necessary to maintain multiple subscriptions out of pocket). ‎Unofficial Tottenham Hotspur taskforce/project

Hi, myself and another user had the idea to try to get a taskforce/project going so Spurs fans can all focus on similar articles or just keep tabs on what other editors are working on.

They made the project on a userpage here and welcome you to add whatever is of interest to you, and we can always add more pages as we need to.

COYS! Pksois23 (talk) 07:18, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

Hiya @Pksois23: I find the main footy project pretty encompassing and there is a hell of a lot to do. I started cataloging all the old Tottenham seasons to wikipedia. But I have work and family to look after, so I really don't get the time like I use too for wiki. But by all means, do as much as you can and good luck. Regards. New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

Hello Govvy,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Hi, I have added a reason to my clarify tag on this article; the reason being that I had not come across "friend of the RSA" before, so wanted to know either what the role is, or whether it is an error for "fellow of the RSA". Best wishes, Tacyarg (talk) 20:54, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

Best European Goalkeeper

Hello! Thank you very much for your help in removing fake information. There is a small problem that I discovered while researching the topic of football awards. There is an article called Best European Goalkeeper, but it contains different awards that are most likely not related to each other. UEFA did award the Club Goalkeeper of the Year from 1998 to 2010. There are sketchy details of the award from European Sports Media. However, I did not find any data on the award from 1990 to 1997. Could you help me put the article in order in accordance with available reliable sources, or draw the attention of competent Wikipedia users? Mitte27 (talk) 14:35, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

@Mitte27: I believe from 2011 it went onto fans voted team of the year, which included the goalkeeper, however no awards were given out as far as I know. Govvy (talk) 15:06, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

He is not retired, but he played his (current) last match in the German national football team in March 2023. This is over 1 year ago! We don’t know when or if he come back to the German national football team. Is Amin Younes retired? No, he didn’t play matches since 2021. Is Mario Götze retired? No, he didn’t play matches since 2023. Should I give more examples or is this enough? Officer X (talk) 08:43, 7 August 2024 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Editors are expected to treat each other with respect and civility. On this encyclopedia project, editors assume good faith while interacting with other editors, which you did not appear to do at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tottenham Hotspur (Superleague Formula team). Here is Wikipedia's welcome page, and it is hoped that you will assume the good faith of other editors and continue to help us improve Wikipedia! File:Tottenhamhotspurstadium logo.jpeg

Hi, the logo has a non-free_use_rationale added to the file. It states that Use of the logo in the article complies with Wikipedia non-free content policy, logo guidelines...

The non-free use rationale guidance clearly states:

"What purpose does the image serve in the article? If applicable:

Is the image a logo, photograph, or box art for the main subject of the article?
Is the image being used as the primary means of visual identification of the subject or topic? (e.g., a corporate logo or the box art of a DVD)...

Why the subject can't be adequately conveyed by properly sourced text or using free content media.

If, for example, an image is a screenshot of a movie that is used for an article about the movie, or a corporate logo, there is obviously no such thing as a "free" version of it – all of the resources in the world could not produce one. If, on the other hand, the image is a photograph, the image is more easily replaced, even if Wikipedians may lack the resources to create a replacement."

I could have taken the image from various sources. It is not necessary to have permission from the logo owner. Please revert your edit. SethWhales talk 14:25, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

Some examples File:Emirates Stadium logo.svg, File:Wembley Stadium EE logo.png, File:Amex-Stadium-Logo.png etc. SethWhales talk 14:47, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

@Seth Whales: I've obtained permissions straight from Tottenham Hotspur for a few images, however when a logo has copyright attached too it, it's best not to have it on wikipedia and you stripped it from LinkedIn, I don't consider that good faith useable. Besides, we don't need to use it on the article. It's fine without that logo. Govvy (talk) 17:22, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

TarnishedPathtalk 12:29, 15 October 2024 (UTC)

Was just coming here to do this, too. Sorry for the template, Govvy, it's what lets other editors see that you've been made aware so they won't retemplate you. Valereee (talk) 12:31, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
@TarnishedPath and Valereee:, my post was in regards to a YouTube video, I don't know why the post was removed from the talk page. O and TarnishedPath, why posted the Arab–Israeli conflict above, when my post was itself related to the topic of Zionism. What you did was a shutdown on the topic I opened up about content on the page. This effectively leaves up a false statement on the main page. Zionists wanted to create a Jewish state in Palestine. This is an erroneous statement, the land is the Levant, and not Palestine. There never was a Palestine. British Palestinian Mandate was the division of the Levant. Govvy (talk) 16:29, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
Govvy, the entire talk page is about that. Please read the talk page so you can understand what's been discussed. Valereee (talk) 22:24, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
@Valereee: Zionism is about a people returning to their homeland, this is not about a conflict to say an entire page is about a conflict is wrong. @TarnishedPath: Why did you template my page exactly? Because that template is regarding new editors to wikipedia and those edits to actual pages and not about starting conversation on talk pages. Again, all as I ask is for an apology. Govvy (talk) 07:35, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
Govvy, when I searched the edit history on your talk it appeared that you've never been notified of CTOP. Given you were making arguments based on a YouTube video I felt it appropriate to notify you. There's no suggestion that you've engaged in any misbehaviour. If you wish for editors not to leave CTOP notices in the future, I'd suggest having a look at Template:Ctopics/aware for adding a notice to the top of your talk page and Template:Contentious topics/alert/first for a list of codes to use. Regards, TarnishedPathtalk 08:08, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
@TarnishedPath: Far as I am concerned there was simply no reason to template a user who has been editing wikipedia for nearly 20 years and Valereee said he wanted to template me also! Pfft. I've often had people template my page and a lot of the time, I don't think half these people read the templates themselves. :/ Govvy (talk) 08:36, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
Not a he. Govvy, I explained why the template was needed, even for a longtime editor -- it's to keep someone else from templating you for the same thing. I did say I was sorry to be having to template you, as I figured you probably did know this stuff. But I'm seeing that you do seem to need the information that template is providing.
Valereee (talk) 09:37, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
Not a he? Tarnished templated me, not you, besides, I am not caring anymore, I am just disappointed and feel there are too many people with dogmatic ideals. Did you know earlier this year I was on the tube and these people got onto the carriage screaming to kill all the Jews. I had to get off out of there at the next stop. It's a horrible experience hearing people want to wipe my people off the face of the Earth. Then there are these pools of people on wikipedia, that simply want to write something, without knowing it antagonises the same people. Words are powerful, and they need to be carefully selected. Have they really been carefully selected for these articles? That article is saturated with opinion pieces. Neutrality out the window. I really don't want to say anymore and rather just stick to football articles because clearly people have too much hate and don't think rationale. Govvy (talk) 12:35, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
You wrote Valereee said he wanted to template me also! I was just pointing out that I'm not a he.
I'm so sorry that happened to you. That sounds horrible.
I agree that words need to be selected carefully, especially at contentious topics. There are editors who have been working on exactly that for months now, which is why a new discussion was closed: there are already multiple discussions of the exact issue you were opening a new discussion on at that article, and having those discussions in several different sections is counterproductive.
All we're trying to do when we template is 1. make sure you understand you're now in a minefield and 2. make sure no one else templates you for the same thing. Valereee (talk) 12:42, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
