DYK
editSeems like I'm going to get my first - Template:Did you know nominations/Megitza. Still waiting for Template:Did you know nominations/Jacobus Deketh to be reviewed. --Tomtomn00 (talk • contributions) 19:03, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, but you should only get the nomination credit for this on, I will leave a note there. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:35, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
- For the Megitza one? Just looking, the user had 1 edit on the article. --Tomtomn00 (talk • contributions) 20:37, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
- It is almost all of what the article is. The rest of the edits may have improved it, but added virtually no new readable text. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:45, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
- Now it seems I won't get a DYK. :o --Tomtomn00 (talk • contributions) 20:50, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
- You get nomination credit. To get a DYK you have to write about over characters of a new article yourself. Not claim credit for someoneelses stuff. I have not rejected the DYK, I will let someone else sort that out. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:37, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
- I'm going to try and expand to 11'000 characters. Tomtomn00 (talk • contributions) 06:26, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
- That would get you a whole credit by yourself as well! But I would guess it would be easier to start a new topic, or expand a shorter article. With your expertise on Maths I am sure you could do a good job with one of those. I seem to remember that the -2 article was deleted, perhaps that is an opportunity for you! I've expanded to 10.4K 12,796 characters (+5600~) - good? --Tomtomn00 (talk • contributions) 19:55, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
- I get 1873 characters in the discography, which should be enough to get you a credit. If the DYK assessor excuses the lateness! Remember we count the characters visible to the reader that are text to read. So that cuts out the Wikimarkup. Though there are a lot of columns full of dashes, are they useful? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:47, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
- It took me 2 hours somehow to add that wikitable, I put a few references in and another section. I'd say it's useful, and will find some chart data. After a small investigation, I think Wotworld is a sockpuppet of User:Megitza - as the Megitza account made Wotworld's sandbox. --Tomtomn00 (talk • contributions) 06:30, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
- I was talking about the columns for charting in USA Australia etc, they are useless. I would be more useful if the columns were for Poland and countries nearby where the artist may be popular. Good pickup on User:Megitza. Either this is the same person and this is an autobiography or the article is a copyright infringement. Wotworld created the Megitza page 4 minutes after the sandbox was last changed. Users here do not have to own up to their real world identity, one of the very few rights that we have here, but if it is an autobiography we should know. It may also have other explanations other than a sock. So how are you aware of the editing of the sand box? If they are two different people then attribution should be made and watworld should not get a DYK credit, instead it should be User:Megitza. I suggest that you contact these two users to find out if they are the same person or not. The images are also problematic user Megitza claims to own copyright on the album cover and says that photo is "own personal photo". The other photos uploaded are clearly not taken by the artist, even though it is claimed "own work". Graeme Bartlett (talk) 06:55, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
- I started the SPI because of that. I wouldn't think it to be an autobiography, as I saw no reference in the first revision of 'I', 'Me' or anything like that. I saw the image on Flickr somewhere, saying it was free. --Tomtomn00 (talk • contributions) 15:32, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
- By the way, look here. --Tomtomn00 (talk • contributions) 15:46, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
- That is good news, you will probably get a DYK credit. Will you put a ? symbol at the top of your user page, once it appears? So are you going to reveal your Dutch reading skills? SPI may only be useful if there is abuse. There is none here so far that I have noticed. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:13, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Dear Graeme, RE: William Whitcombe, Priest in Ordinary to the Queen - you need to be logged into the Times or the Daily Telegraph in order to see the entry. It is also possible to see the entry on the British Monarchy website if you type in "William Whitcombe"in the keywords search. I have PDF/screen shots, would they be acceptable to send you ? Thanks, Andy
Dear Graeme, on the subject of William Whitcombe, a 2nd reference would be : The Daily Telegraph, Court Circular page 30, Saturday 28 April 2012. Also the website http://www.royal.gov.uk/LatestNewsandDiary/CourtCircular/Todaysevents.aspx where William Whitcombe can be searched under 4 Keywords. Hope this might help? Blessings, Andy. DYK for Jacobus Deketh
editOn 27 April 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Jacobus Deketh, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Jacobus Deketh (pictured) was a captain of a 36-gun frigate in the Frisian Admiralty? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Jacobus Deketh. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

editI thought I'd post this here, I've just hit 60 articles! I've got 2700 on my Mac to add to Wikipedia. See Toolserver. --Tomtomn00 (talk • contributions) 11:31, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- 2700 is an awful lot! I hope you are going to go past the stub stage too. You should learn to use the stub templates. Also be aware of super cats. You do not need broader categories most of the time. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:59, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

editHi. In your recent article edits, you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

If I understand correctly, I think you are the campus ambassador for the students working on that page. I'd appreciate it if you could take a look there, and maybe prod the students along a bit in responding to my concerns about their edits. I really don't want to "bite", but I'm getting close to doing so. Thanks! --Tryptofish (talk) 20:57, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the fixes. Something that concerns me, however, is that I've been making a lot of similar fixes and the students just keep doing the same things. I don't know whether they just don't care, or are having trouble understanding what is expected of them, but I've come to feel that correcting their edits is becoming a sort of crutch for them, and it makes me uncomfortable. --Tryptofish (talk) 22:09, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- When I examine the problems I will inform them. Somehow I think there is more than a bolding in a title that is annoying you! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:11, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. As for your latter point, it undoubtedly comes from my many years of grading papers! --Tryptofish (talk) 22:17, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

Report-nav
edit"Looks like nav". What is that even supposed to mean? {{Report-nav}} includes {{Nav}}, which was deleted ages ago. If it's dependent on a redlink template, it falls under G8; failing that, it's an obvious G6 for housekeeping since it's no longer used. It creates Report:Index space pages, which is no longer supported. Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 18:38, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
- Since it has an xFD just let it run. The nav that was deleted was not to do with this template. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:03, 1 May 2012 (UTC) so I don't think that G8 applies. THere may be another reason such as broken and useless. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:03, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
- There is nothing that precludes speedying something at XFD. Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 22:53, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
- But we get a more definative result if the xFD runs. If we speedy delete then we cannot use G4 recreation reason to speedy later on. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 23:59, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi, yesterday you declined several of my speedy deletion request about some football clubs such as Kuwasen FC. you said article suggest the article appears in the media. Please check again, that is just personal blog or self publish, no media, even some blog link is not work again. The club only local villagers club in one of regency in Indonesia, they just play in league to reserve club of Persijap Jepara. They clearly uncovered by national media even local media. *Annas* (talk) 06:30, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

editWhen I come back from my attempted wikibreak (7d), I've got 11000+ articles to create... Should I do them all at once or in batches of around 10-20? --Tomtomn00 (talk • contributions) 18:07, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
- Do them bit by bit. You have often rushed in too fast with quantity at the expense of quality before, so go slow enough so that page patrollers will find only good stuff. How did you manage to write 11000 articles? Are they stubs produced automatically from databases? Others in the past have got into trouble for careless creation of articles with errors, so I recommend that you check each one carefully to see that the reference supports the information, that you put on correct categories, that the information is correct, and suitable stub templates are applied. And also make sure that the article is not present under another name already, in which case you should be editting or redirecting instead. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:44, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
- Created manually. I've been told their sub-stubs, so I'm going to expand 3000 highway ones. --Tomtomn00 (talk • contributions) 06:47, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
- Do they satisfy WP:GNG? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 08:13, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
- I'd say they do, but I've been getting bad comments on them, and being told that they're sub-stubs, and I may get blocked for disruptive editing if I don't stop... Help? --Tomtomn00 (talk • contributions) 21:20, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
- Well stop and talk about it with the complainers. Is there a guide for highway articles? If not you will have to follow the WP:GNG. I hope you know what the requirements are now, two independent reliable substantial coverages of the topic. I will take a look at what you did. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:45, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
- Certainly the substantial coverage is not achieved. What coverage I see is a one liner in a table from the people that look after the roads. It looks to me as if nearly everything in Louisiana is called a highway, and you may not have much to say about each one. So before you put the articles in I would urge you to find substantial coverage. You may have to go back in time to when the road was built to find a newspaper story or government gazette, or politicians debate. Perhaps there was a major accident on the road that got a news story. As it stands List of numbered highways in Louisiana could contain all the useful content you included. Also imagine that you are a reader of the articles you wrote. What do you want to know about the roads? Probably geographic coords of the ends, the names of all the towns along it, which direction it goes in, how many lanes, what kind of surface, bridges across what water-courses, what can be seen from the road, (for tourists) any notable businesses, facilities or famous people known to live there? What is the population or number of buildings on that road? (for the junk mailers) Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:02, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

- WordClerk people that get AWB have a much bigger track record of adding or editing in articles. see http://toolserver.org/~tparis/pcount/index.php?name=WordClerk&lang=en&wiki=wikipedia and https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions/WordClerk&namespace=0&limit=500. Only occasionally people with few edits like you get the AWB tool, and they will have much experience on another wikimedia Wiki, along with already proving that they know how to use AWB there. If you get up to a few hundred edits you can give a good reason to make use of the tool, and it will be considered. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:18, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

And where is the parish/county? United States is not a county. There are still not references to prove WP:GNG. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:50, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

GA
editCan I nominate Jacobus Deketh for GA - as I created it? Thanks, Graeme Bartlett! --Tomtomn00 (talk • contributions) 07:49, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
- Well you are not restricted from nominating it, but I think it would not pass. Nominators are likely to be involved in the creation or editing an article, and they are expected to have a keen interest in fixing the issues raised. So you would need to be committed to every issue raised by the assessor. Before you nominate it I think you need to look at the captain's log books, over in Den Hague, quite close to where you are! (Well a ship ride away). You may be able to request the archive to do a scan for you to get it online. One issue is whether Deketh sailed on the Edam or not. And as far as I can remember you have not translated that newspaper ad for his estate. The idea is to make sure that coverage is complete, amongst other things. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 08:07, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

- Are you learning that laugh from User:Dr. Blofeld? With that quality editing you have elicited from the GOCE, a GA should be achievable. It would be easier than Deketh because sources are easier to get hold of. We need to check for complete coverage, so that no significant aspects are omitted. Some questions: are there any meteorites from the moon that have come off that anomaly? What other minerals are found there? What does the light colour mean? What is the area? What is the volume of magma? What is the radiation level? Is it safe? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 13:52, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

- Are you learning that laugh from User:Dr. Blofeld? With that quality editing you have elicited from the GOCE, a GA should be achievable. It would be easier than Deketh because sources are easier to get hold of. We need to check for complete coverage, so that no significant aspects are omitted. Right, I found some things.
- Elevation changes between 50 metres (160 ft) and 100 metres (330 ft).
- Many lava extrusions along the east and west flanks of it.
- Features do not all have continuous rim.
- Irregular underlying shapes.
- Near-surface magma chamber.
- Many magma chambers have collapsed
- 214 kilometres (133 mi) diameter.
- Could you make a paragraph out of that for me and post it here so I can have a look? If so, 2 barnstars will be on the way! --Tomtomn00 (talk • contributions) 14:17, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

WP Geology in the Signpost
editThe WikiProject Report would like to focus on WikiProject Geology for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Multiple editors will have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions, so be sure to sign your answers. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. -Mabeenot (talk) 22:48, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
Glossary
editGraeme, I noticed your comment in the Signpost interview that geological terms should have short articles to explain and illustrate them. Are you familiar with Glossary of geology? RockMagnetist (talk) 04:49, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
- Hi RockMagnetist thanks for pointing out the list, I should be adding to it. I am now aware, but I note that nearly every term here has an article. It is all the things missing off the list that also need an article of more than one line, with examples and diagram. Some examples not there are tectonometamorphism and Assimilation (geology) (which I think you could write about!) Graeme Bartlett (talk) 04:55, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
- I know that "Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated." Nothing on the relevance to geology, alas - we are all so specialized. As far as I know, there is no restriction on adding terms that have no article (although they would require a citation). RockMagnetist (talk) 05:07, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
- Do you think my answers are complaining too much? I should be less critical I suppose. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 05:30, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

editThanks for uploading File:Tiger Gate logo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. Hi!
editI've gone and made 300+ stubs in the last 12 hours. Hence autopatrol (and AN thread — no action). --Tomtomn00 (talk • contributions) 06:31, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
- Well the stubs are not very useful at this point, they do not say where the beetles are found or any useful reference, such as the discovery publication. DO you realize there are 100000's of beetle species? Now you have to expand all those stubs! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 06:38, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
- Do you think you can automatically create the inter wikis as well; joopibot has made articles on vi and nl wikipedia already on the topic of some of your stubs. Wikispecies may have some of them too. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 06:45, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
- Well, at least I'm making them. They're actually longer than other living creature articles because they have the discovery date. --Tomtomn00 (talk • contributions) 06:49, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
- The discover appears in your info box so perhaps you could generate text for that, particularly if you can work out their whole name. Does your stub generator look on commons to see if there is an image? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 07:09, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

I'm not using a stub generator — I'm doing these manually. --Tomtomn00 (talk • contributions) 07:14, 19 May 2012 (UTC) So, it takes a while... --Tomtomn00 (talk • contributions) 07:19, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
- I thought you would write a bit of code that went through the list of beetles, generate a slab of wikitext, and then paste it into a new article (manually). I could write a sed or awk command to do this. but those extra checks take a bit more effort manually. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 07:22, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

I noticed you added Template:Did you know nominations/Natalie Hurst to the DYK queue. The hook says she was "once suspended from basketball for five weeks for swearing at a referee". I was wondering if this breaks the rule that says, "Articles and hooks that focus unduly on negative aspects of living individuals should be avoided." What do you think? StAnselm (talk) 21:18, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
- I don't think it is too negative, but I don't mind if you substitute the hook. It passed three of the major contributors at DYK, Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:36, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
- I've been thinking about it, but nothing comes to mind - we can hardly just have her height. I don't feel particularly strongly about this - I feel I've done enough in alerting you to it. StAnselm (talk) 21:50, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
As discussed earlier in Wikipedia:Media copyright questions/Archive/2012/May#File:Edfirstwedding.jpg, the Getty Images page reveals that this photo may be profitable. Nevertheless, you said that this image is fair use, correct? Unfortunately, File:Cheers cast photo.jpg is nominated for deletion because commercial rights of this image are currently owned by the Getty Images and use of that photo in Wikipedia violates WP:NFCC#2. I wonder who is right or wrong about this. --George Ho (talk) 22:20, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
- You can nominate it for deletion, it is not really a speedy delete candidate though. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 01:37, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
- I can't without approval from one of my mentors. Begoon, who is on long wikibreak, is sympathetic toward the image, but I don't know if I want to contact MGA73 about this. --George Ho (talk) 02:11, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Controversial move?
editRe this close - could you tell me what you think is controversial about the move, so I can address it in the RM? - htonl (talk) 21:14, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
- The speedy delete nomination on Magistrate's Court (South Africa) was sitting there for over 7 hours with no administrator willing to do it, which they would be if it looked obvious and non controversial. So you should start a requested move section on the talk page. The policy here is the most commonly used name should be what is the Wikipedia article name, rather than an official name, so the requested move should consider what newspapers and other writings about the topic use. Other editors may consider what is grammatically correct. I am not arguing any particular direction at this point, just that the speedy delete was controversial. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:26, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks! I have opened an RM with evidence of both official and media use. - htonl (talk) 21:51, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
Rambo: The Last Stand
editI see that you chose a redirect rather than deletion of Rambo the last stand. I had considered that option before nominating, but then I didn't feel that the article title was valid since the 5th installment has not yet begun production, so the title of the film (or even its existence) is not yet set in stone. If they choose to make the film under a different title, this article's title won't make any sense at all. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:15, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
Tetris pieces
editTell me what "discussion" needs to go on in a template consisting of nothing but tetris pieces. It's like "Discussing" a page whose entire content is asjkdhfjksdlhsajkhksajrhaelkrj. Accepted articles
editHi, I'm the author of both the articles Thin disk and Thick disk which I believe you might have approved (or moved? I'm not really sure how this works yet) Anyway I noticed both of them have an AFC template that implies and unregistered user made them and I just wanted to point out that is incorrect since I created them. Would it be ok if I removed the template? Regards. Gaba p (talk) 01:38, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
- This is the project header which should stay on. If you read it carefully the statement about unregistered users is about the project and not about you. If you want to you can add more projects to the talk page such as the Astronomy project. Or you can add a talk page statment about yourself and why you made the contribution. Categorizing plant articles
editHi, I noticed your good faith categorization of some Crinum articles. In general the WP:PLANTS approach is to categorize plant articles at the lowest level that will produce a category of a minimum size of about 10 items. So Crinum, Crinum asiaticum and Crinum latifolium were categorized at Category:Amaryllidoideae (the subfamily) rather than at the genus Crinum. Whether this is the best approach or not is arguable, but if you do categorize plant articles lower down, you do need to remove the higher category (in this case Amaryllidoideae). Peter coxhead (talk) 23:39, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
- I thought that the 7 there were a reasonable number to start a new category. I should have thought to remove the supercats, but there already looked to be supercategory use. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 08:24, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
- Well, there's a range of uncertainty: there are enough Crinum species to eventually fill up a category, so I left this categorization but removed the subfamily one. Peter coxhead (talk) 09:36, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

- Graeme, I've specifically disagreed with this comment and have temporarily revoked AWB. Whilst I'm not 100% happy with the way he's been using it, the bigger problem has been how he's handled feedback on his use of the tool. I'm going to be watching him carefully over the next month, and if he improves on how he handles feedback I will happily return AWB (or any other admin can). I hope this doesn't step on your toes too much. Cheers. WormTT(talk) 11:11, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi Graeme. Thank you for closing Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Non-free content review. Would you provide an extended closing rationale: (i) a summary of the "mark as historical" position, (ii) a summary of the "keep/do not mark as historical position", and (iii) a summary of any other arguments (for example, the argument by Uzma Gamal). Would you then analyze which position received the most support and was best grounded in the policies, guidelines, and/or precedents?
Your close said "Keep but no longer use". Does that mean the consensus was to "mark as historical", as requested by the nominator? If yes, please explicitly say so and tag Wikipedia:Non-free content review with {{historical}}. Thanks! Cunard (talk) 18:04, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for the extended closing rationale. Would you provide clarification at the MfD about what "Keep but no longer use" means? Please explicitly state that it means or doesn't mean "mark as {{historical}}" to avoid confusion in the future. Cunard (talk) 18:15, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
AWB
editHello Graeme,
You may be right that I am still learning what to do here, but the "mass taggings for deletion" were completely justified. I was tagging List of MeSH codes and all of its 100-ish subpages for deletion. They were subpages, not just random pages. Also, I am unsure what you mean by "unneeded article tagging", so if you could elaborate that would be greatly appreciated. I also haven't had a complaint for 2 months (that's half the time I've been editing Wikipedia), since then I have figured out what to do and what not to do.
Thanks, Athleek123 19:20, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Still need reviews for the Wikipedia Education Program research project
editHey, Graeme! If you have some time to review the quality of some articles, we're using the results for a really important research project that will help shape the future of the US/Canada Education Program. For a few projects, we're on a pretty tight timeline and are really eager to have many more of these articles reviewed over the next week. However, we think it's most useful to come from experienced Wikipedia editors.
I have gone through each class to prioritize for various projects, and everyone on the Education team at the Wikimedia Foundation would be extremely grateful if you could participate by reviewing a few articles ('pre' and 'post' versions). If we can rally a lot of editors to review one or two articles each day, we will be able to make the most use of this research for our tight timeline. As many of our Ambassadors have requested it, we are really eager to find out which classes have been successful according to the Wikipedian standard.
If you can spare some time, please check out these priority articles and give it a go. Even 1 or 2 a day would help immensely! JMathewson (WMF) (talk) 02:17, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for all of your reviews; we're so much closer to the finish line now. I really appreciate the great help! JMathewson (WMF) (talk) 07:09, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
Your image at Australian Christian Lobby
editApologies if you already noticed, but an editor who has a reputation for removing anything he does not like from wikipedia has deleted the image you added to the article Australian Christian Lobby. See here: [1]. I would of reverted his removal as his explanation is not good enough in my opinion but I am constantly in an edit war with this person over one thing or another and if I replace it he will most likely just keep reverting my edit as he tends to not listen to anything I say. Have a nice day. Freikorp (talk) 10:06, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the alert, it is not a great photo, being over exposed, and nearly 4 years old, but in my opinion it does add to the article. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 13:25, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
- You are welcome. Feel free to have a look at the articles content, and join in discussions on the talk page. It would be nice to have another editor working on the page. It's no secret that I do not like the ACL and that the editor who removed your picture does, but I do try to be neutral about my edits and I have a hard time trying to reason with the other editor. I'd appreciate some new input from other editors, even if they intend on make the ACL look more favourable in the article, as long as it complies with wiki's guidelines and does not give any one section undue weight I do not mind what gets added to the article. Question regarding FLYHT Aerospace Solutions Ltd.
editI'm not sure how you disagree with the spam assessment here? Three other sysops (Ironholds, Bushranger (who tagged the restored article for G11) and myself (who was about to agree with Bushranger's assessment and delete before seeing your undeletion) disagreed. I'm unsure how the following isn't blatant promotion?
- "FLYHT’s patented Automated Flight Information Reporting System (“AFIRS”) operates on multiple aircraft types and provides functions such as global voice and text messaging, data collection and transmission, ACARS over Iridium, data on demand anywhere, anytime. AFIRS sends that information to its companion, UpTime, the ground service product, which stores and transfers the data to the customer in real time. Aircraft operators can use this information to increase safety, improve service, and enhance profitability."
- "FLYHT has demonstrated that live flight data can be streamed from an aircraft in real time. If an airplane encounters an emergency, FLYHT’s proven technology, FLYHTStream, can be automatically triggered to stream vital data that is normally secured in the black box, and provide position information to designated sites on the ground in real time. This technology opens new doors for increased safety and data analysis capabilities in the aerospace industry."
- The entire "Technology" section...

Hi, sorry to bother you. I see that after this no consensus RM 7 August 2011 (UTC) you moved (presumably as an admin you were asked to move) several of the cities on 29 August 2011 Graeme Bartlett (talk | contribs) m . . (5,287 bytes) (0) . . (moved Yên Bái to Yen Bai: WP:NCGN recommends following the usage of Britannica, which does not use Vietnamese diacritics.) Is it here at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Vietnam/Naming convention debate July 2010? ...... sorry to make you delve into ancient history, but a couple of cities have only been moved in the last 2 days Cà Mau → Ca Mau and wondering where the guideline actually is? In ictu oculi (talk) 13:36, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
- You look to be right that the debate has not really come to a conclusion. My moves are actually based on a simpler criterion, that some one asked for it with the reason given, and it looked reasonable to do so. It does not prevent the move being undone. Over the last year I have only seen requests to remove diacritics. If you are interested in particular articles, I can look up who asked for the move for you. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:25, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
- That's okay, I think I can probably guess who asked for it. I'll leave it for the time being, the vast majority, 100s if not 1000s, of Vietnam place name stubs are still at local spelling, if someone desperately wants to simplify the major cities it isn't the end of the world. Thanks, I didn't want to jump to conclusions but the request was then from the initiator of the failed RM. I don't need you to revert them, these are only 8 of 950 undiscussed moves, plus who knows how many proxy moves by G6 and admin request. A sensible naming policy needs to be established by consensus among the article creators (although unfortunately a lot of the WP:VIETNAM article providers seem to have retreated recently) what concerned me was that you, the admin, weren't told about the RM.
But that was before. What concerns me since about 20 minutes ago is the discovery that immediately before approaching you the bot link to the failed RM was edited out of Talk so that you wouldn't see it when you moved them. In other words the admin performing the G6 couldn't see any reference to the previous RM even if looking on Talk, because it had been erased. It isn't just you either. I see the same thing was also done to admin Edgar181 for other G6 moves: [Thái Nguyên 27 August and Thanh Hóa 27 August. Have you ever seen anything like this before? I haven't. - For better or worse, I can't say the above to you - now that you have confirmed it was Kauffner - and not notify him User Talk:Kauffner. Before Kauffner tells you let me own up I am since 13 March 2012 a diehard fan of WP:FRMOS and of extending the way we treat French living people on en.wp to Serb tennis players, Cuban paralympians, and so on (I also eat babies). Although those RMs and associated moves are now complete, amazingly - it's now getting very difficult scraping around the barrel to find any Europeans with "English names" left Talk:Toni Androic seems to be all but the last one. About Vietnamese I am not convinced of the value of diacritics or that Vietnamese people/towns should be treated the same as European Latin-alphabet names, outside category:Vietnamese words and phrases obviously. My concern about these moves, and the 100s of others, relates to process and the Users who actually created the articles not having regular opportunity to have a say in moving them. In ictu oculi (talk) 05:01, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
I was wondering where I could request that No Gun Ri Massacre be moved back to No Gun Ri (Talk:No_Gun_Ri_Massacre/Archive_1#Requested_move), that Nico Hülkenberg be moved back to Nico Hulkenberg,[2] and that Édouard Hambye be move back to Edouard René Hambye?[3] Moving geography articles to Vietnamese spellings cannot be justified in terms of the any of the criteria suggested in WP:NCGN (Britannica, Columbia, Encarta, major media, etc. etc.) Most of editors involved in the current Vietnamese naming RfC do not appear to want these moves reverted. Kauffner (talk) 06:57, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- Since there is a disagreement of opinion I think that we need a proper Requests for comment with input from a variety of people. This choice of name for Vietnamese names seems to not be completely straight forward and is not uncontroversial. For individual pages you can do a discussion on the talk page, and for an article with or without massacre, that is probably the say to go. My talk page is not really the way to do this. I have never set up RFC's only closed them, so I will ahve a look for where to have this discussion. WT:Title will be my first idea. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 07:50, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Graeme, I would suspect actually that the place Kauffner has opened his RfC Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Vietnamese) is actually the right place. It is just that inviting only selected editors who have agreed with him in the past and not those, for example in the RM on the towns he asked you to move removes any credibility/use of the RfC before it starts. As I say I haven't made up my own mind anyway. But that here now isn't the issue, if you are completely happy with the way you were requested to make the moves contrary to the RM result, and if you don't mind that the Talk links to the RM result were deleted prior to asking you, then there's no need for further action. But I would request that you restore all articles which you have unknowingly moved contrary to RM results - as far as you're aware of them, which I realise you can't be in all cases. Cheers. I'm going offline for a few hours. Take care and thanks for your time. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:10, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

The issue of the Vietnamese page moves has already been before ANI. It was referred to the RfC mentioned above. For the each of three non-Vietnamese articles I mentioned, an RM was closed. Then someone made a unilateral move another location. Kauffner (talk) 12:47, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- Kauffner, I thought we were done here, but if you are going to add more be sure it is correct. As you well know the item before ANI today was another issue brought by Karl B (your 950x moves and editing redirects) which has nothing to do with this issue here (erasing bot-notes of failed RM before approaching an admin for uncontroversial G6). I doubt either Karl B or the admin at ANI have any idea about the RM-bot delete or G6 issue, otherwise Karl B would have mentioned that at ANI. If you want ANI reopened and this issue added then that can be arranged, but I think it is Graeme's decision since Graeme was the one the removal of evidence of the previous RM was intended for, no one else.In ictu oculi (talk) 13:31, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- Graeme, can I ask a technical question - when you get a request like this, does it come through some random funnel and any of a dozen G6-handling admins receive it or does the person submitting the G6 select the admin? Trying to understand. In ictu oculi (talk) 13:31, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- Wow. This takes the cake. I've notified Malik_Shabazz, who also handles a lot of moves, to weigh in here on appropriate next steps. IIO is correct, I was not aware of this latest trickiness by Kauffner. And Kauffner, as for the other post-RM moves, I don't know what those have to do with your behavior in this instance. For Édouard Hambye, everyone who voted in the RM suggested that title as the correct title, so there was clear consensus for the move. Anywa, I do hope Graeme will consider an appropriate response; misrepresenting consensus like this when requesting a speedy move is unbecoming a wikipedia editor.--KarlB (talk) 17:16, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- I have to say, this doesn't look good. It's shenanigans like these that have exhausted my good faith with respect to these moves, which is why I won't make them any more. I'm glad you're having a discussion about adopting a naming convention. You might also want to start a WP:RfC/U to discuss Kauffner's behavior. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 17:33, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Two of the cities among Can Tho RM had RMs made less visible by IP part of the cluster of IPs listed there. Whether to restore or not the RM result is still your decision. Cheers In ictu oculi (talk) 02:54, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry - Technical question - why is there no trace of the User requesting the moves you list above in the User's edit history? 27 August 2011 clearly shows the edits removing evidence of the "no consensus" RMs, but where is the request which you acted on? Am I missing it because I have no idea what it looks like, or is there a separate list of dbmove or G6 requests somewhere? In ictu oculi (talk) 10:33, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- The requested moves are done on the redirect, which is deleted as a result of the move. You will have to look at the deleted contributions. I will extract a list of these, as a G6 delete is not sensitive and supposed to be non controversial. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:37, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

- I have to say, this doesn't look good. It's shenanigans like these that have exhausted my good faith with respect to these moves, which is why I won't make them any more. Okay, so the above represents a complete list of the Users' G6 requests for 10 days 10-20 August (prior to the 27 August RM evidence removal and your 29 August actioning). I see the G6 works pretty quickly:
- 11:48, 11 August 2011 Pham Thanh Ngan request
- 13:10, 11 August 2011 Sphilbrick (talk | contribs) m . . (1,575 bytes) (0) . . (moved Phạm Thanh Ngân to Pham Thanh Ngan: Drop Vietnamese diacritics as there is virtually no use of them in published English. See Britannica, discussion at Talk:Ngo Bao Chau.) (undo)
I'd seen the name Sphilbrick all over Vietnam articles making dozens of controversial moves and was wondering who he was, I suppose I should have realised he was just another admin acting in good faith. Duh. The full list of dbmoves is evidently going to be as long or longer than the 950 undiscussed moves under User's name. Many thanks for answering the question. Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)
editCredo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:
- Link to Survey (should take between 5-10 minutes): http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/N8FQ6MM
It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.
At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).
Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.
If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:18, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

File Mover permission
editHi Graeme, don't know if you remember me but you turned me down for the File Mover permission about a month ago for lack of experience. I had around 10 uploads at the time, now 16 and was mainly pointing out this file: Birmingham Gay Village Bull Artwork.jpg (i've took out "File:" - i'm sure you already know that. basically i named this wrong accidentally of course (i could have rigged up a coincidence a month ago if i tried) and this should be Birmingham Gay Village Rhinoceros Artwork.jpg. I've tagged it in accordance with policy for rename but wanted to point it out so you could double check. Thanks and have a nice day ツ Jenova20 (email) 09:44, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
- Well I think it is hardly worth renaming as most of the name is accurate, Bull is not exactly a misspelling for rhino! The kind of names we want to change are things like DSC30210832.JPG Ps if you want to link a file use : as in File:Birmingham Gay Village Bull Artwork.jpg Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:58, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
- Ahh, that's a nifty little trick. I hope the point of me showing that i know how to get a rename done wasn't lost on you though in this exercise? Thanks and have a nice day ツ Jenova20 (email) 10:35, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

I'd rather get it dealt with sooner rather than later as I feel like the sheer volume will require a discussion as all people involved in building prep areas will need to be aware of whatever decision is reached. --LauraHale (talk) 21:27, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for restoring the old version. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 16:04, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

Username
editHi Graeme, would you be able to answer a username question for me, or is it not your area? Callanecc (talk • contribs) talkback (etc) template appreciated. 12:40, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- You can always ask. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:42, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- What would you say to "Sarah SleepsWithSirens" as a username? Callanecc (talk • contribs) talkback (etc) template appreciated. 12:44, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- Sounds pretty harmless. DO you think it is slandering someone called Sarah? If that is the case then WP:UFAA is the way to go. If yoiu want to choose it for yourself, I would suggest you don't. - No it's a request an account case, just wondering what an admin's opinion on it would be.
- While I've got you, would you mind having a look at Judge Guthrie (including talk page) and the associated WP:RPP? Callanecc (talk • contribs) talkback (etc) template appreciated. 12:52, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- Well the IP hopping vandal is blocked again. Since it seems to be one person blocking is possible, but if they keep hopping more we may really have to protect the article, despite what ItsZippy said and did. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:58, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah it's starting to become quite amusing in a strange way. Callanecc (talk • contribs) talkback (etc) template appreciated. 13:01, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Victory Christian School Seal.jpg)
editThanks for uploading File:Victory Christian School Seal.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:14, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Dispute Resolution IRC office hours.
editHello there. As you expressed interest in hearing updates to my research in the dispute resolution survey that was done a few months ago, I just wanted to let you know that I am hosting an IRC office hours session this coming Saturday, 28th July at 19:00 UTC (approximately 12 hours from now). This will be located in the #wikimedia-office connect IRC channel - if you have not participated in an IRC discussion before you can connect to IRC here.
