Quote template
Hi, I used to be able to write {{quote|blah blah}} to produce a blockquote. It was quick and easy. Since the requested move at Template talk:Blockquote, I can't do it; now I have to write {{blockquote|text=blah blah}}. What do I need to do to restore the functionality we had before the move? SarahSV (talk) 20:54, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
- Both of those give the same output. — JJMC89 06:49, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
- {{Quote}} is working for me again. I must have been doing something wrong. SarahSV (talk) 19:16, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
Removed an image already used in another article?
Regarding this revert: Special:Diff/1004504455
Comment says "Removed WP:NFCC violation(s). No valid non-free use rationale for this page" but the image has been used by the article "The El Paso Kid" since November 2015. Why is it accepted in one article but not another?! -- Lyverbe (talk) 17:31, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
- Did you read the linked policy? — JJMC89 18:03, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Bertos
Hi there JJMC89, about Miroslav Bertoša: the bot claims no valid free use rationale for the List of Istrians page; yet when I uploaded Bertosa's picture I included its use on a list of notable people...--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 09:47, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) Hi Wiki.Jaap.07. It seems that you tried to combine multiple uses of a file into a single non-free use rationale. This is generally not a good thing to do because each use of a non-free file is almost always never identical or can be justified for the same reasons as explained in WP:OTHERIMAGE. The bot is only seeing a link for the file's use in the Bertoša article since that is the link you provided in the rationale you added when you updated the file; so, it's removing the file for not complying with WP:NFCC#10c. If you feel the file's non-free use is also justified in the list article, then you're going to need to provide a separate, specific rationale for that particular use on the file's page. That will stop the bot from removing the file. However, in this case, simply providing the missing rationale is almost certainly not going to be enough to justify the file's use in the list article per WP:JUSTONE, WP:FREER, WP:NFC#CS, WP:NFLISTS and item 6 of WP:NFC#UUI. Non-free images are pretty much never allowed to be used in list articles like this because they are almost always considered WP:DECORATIVE and a link back to the biography article where the same image can be seen is considered sufficient. You can of course disagree with this assessment and seek other input at WP:MCQ or WT:NFCC, but all the discussions I've seen about this type of non-free use with respect to other files over the years at places like WP:FFD or WP:NFCR have never been in favor of this type of non-free use. If you feel this time might somehow be an exceptional case, add the missing non-free use rationale for the use and then re-add the file to the article. Another editor can then challenge the use if they feel it doesn't comply with WP:NFCC. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:36, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
- Okay, JJMC89 thanks for your detailed reply. What you say makes sense (and conforms to the manuals), and I won't appeal; it's just too bad for the list.. Anyway, thanks for your time and help!--Wiki.Jaap.07 (talk) 12:33, 7 February 2021 (UTC)

Family tree of the Malaspina family
@JJMC89: Hi! I would like to know why did you deleted the draft of the page Family tree of the Malaspina family. It was the page that is in risk to be deleted, not the draft! Can you explain me your doing? How should I develop the page, now? Mhmrodrigues (talk) 13:46, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- Explanation provided by others at the AfD — JJMC89 06:10, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
Hello, JJMC89,
This category that you created is tagged for deletion and it looks like you were not notified. It has a tag that states to not delete even if it is empty so I thought you might question its being tagged for deletion. Liz Read! Talk! 20:46, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks, Liz. I've deleted it since the template that populated it was deleted. — JJMC89 06:11, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
Asking permission regarding repeatedly deleted Article.
Hi hope you are doing well. I would like to ask you can I create the page Asif Tariq Bhat. As I can see it has been deleted repeatedly. But I have some references regarding the said subject. So please look into the matter. Thank you Sardar Nadir Ali (talk) 06:35, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
- The answer hasn't changed since the last time that you asked me. — JJMC89 06:39, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

RfD template
Hi there. I saw you had to fix several of the redirects I had nominated for discussion. Did I do something incorrect when I added the template? They seemed to show up on the discussion page correctly at the time. Onel5969 TT me 13:34, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Onel5969: No, you didn't. I was cleaning up after the move of Module:RfD to Module:Redirect for discussion. — JJMC89 04:18, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks. Just wanted to make sure. Onel5969 TT me 13:54, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
Please redact
Will you redact this vandalizing act because it is a WP:PA as it mentioned my email. Thanks. Flix11 (talk) 04:03, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
- Already done by someone else — JJMC89 08:33, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
your bot is broken
You seem to have it rushing around removing images that are perfectly valid. If its the cover of a book, its fine to use in the infobox for the article of that book. The image file says under "Licensing" "This image is of book cover". Dream Focus 02:56, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
- No, it isn't. You haven't provided the required non-free use rationale. — JJMC89 08:30, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
- I made a request to automate this, should be simple enough. Wikipedia:Bot_requests#uploading_book_cover_should_automatically_fill_in_two_tags Dream Focus 14:25, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
A question
Hi JJMC89, I'm not sure if I asked you this before, but, is it possible to restore this page /its content. It is notable and it was not covered on Wiki so far. Sadkσ (talk is cheap) 18:30, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
- It was just a redirect to Talk:List of early Slav rulers, which was deleted prior to my deletion. That talk page just had a WikiProject banner. — JJMC89 23:56, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
Preventing JJMC89 bot from reduce-tagging?
Your JJMC89 bot recently applied the tag {{Non-free reduce}}
to File:Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpūchō - Emotion input system.png. Being a screenshot from a low-resolution video game, resizing this image doesn't actually lose any information (which, of course, is the reason to down-scale images in the first place), and it was upscaled as a matter of sheer user-friendliness. Is there a way to tell JJMC89 bot not to add the {{Non-free reduce}}
template to it? Obskyr (talk) 12:31, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
- There is, but you should not be upscaling non-free images. — JJMC89 00:06, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
Thank you

- Of course. Some pretty vile stuff. It was probably some LTA, but I don't recall which. — JJMC89 00:08, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
A protest
Hi JJMC89. I had a protest about undoing my edition in article Joji (musician). Why did you revert my edition? What was the problem? I'd improve this article. HONDA Gang (Talk) 06:34, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
- The purpose of an infobox is to summarize key facts that appear in the aricle. What you added was not covered in the article at all, let alone being key. Also, see the documtation for that parameter at Template:Infobox musical artist#associated_acts. — JJMC89 02:58, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
Let me know please
Hey, I hope you are safe these days. I am a sysop at the Wikimedia Commons and an OTRS agent with access to EN-info qeue. Please let me know if there are some in-wiki works I can do to remove the backlogs. Best. --Mhhossein talk 13:01, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Mhhossein: What kind of backlog did you have in mind? There's plenty of backlogs in Category:Wikipedia backlog. OTRS-related items that are tracked on-wiki are mostly permissions-related. — JJMC89 00:04, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
- yeah, actually I meant the backlogs closer to my roles as WM Commons admins and OTRS agent. I'll check the categories. --Mhhossein talk 06:22, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

Deletion of talk page Central Franconian phonology
A week ago you deleted this page [1]. I understand that you did the right thing, because I wasn't aware I was on wikipedia. The page is linked to on hundreds of wiktionary entries, and I was therefore under the impression that I was writing on a wiktionary page... My question: Is there a way to retrieve what I wrote? Thank you. 77.11.200.53 (talk) 23:28, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
- Yes. Which page (presumably on Wictionary) do you want it at? — JJMC89 02:58, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Spam cleanup
Hallo, I've just reverted a lot of your edits ... because you were unknowingly adding the ISBN template to a chunk of spam, and I've now removed all the spam (that editor had his draft about a completely non-notable self-published book declined, then added a mention of it to every imaginable article: if the crew had eaten a ham sandwich he'd have added it to that article). I hope I've managed to retrieve your good edits which went along with the ISBN fix in some cases, but I apologise if I accidentally lost any of them. PamD 11:46, 26 February 2021 (UTC)
- No worries, PamD. ISBN link cleanup was the goal, anything else was not really important. — JJMC89 03:47, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
