It is caused by my fix — adding \n before the first pipe after |coordinates=... — for the above example diff. mwparserfromhell adds the new parameter on the same line as another parameter for many edits, and I haven't figured out why. I understand copyright laws, I had an impression that Wiki wanted the exact wordings when describing some crucial information related to a topic. Cool, I will paraphrase the entire thing again. Hope this time it will stay around. Also, I wanted to know why the page is flagged for an advertisement, when none of the other New IIMs which started functioning along with IIM Nagpur aren't flagged that way.

JJMC89 bot and Infobox World Heritage Site

I don't know whether your bot has completed its run through these infoboxes yet, but there's something to keep in mind: Some of these articles had coordinates both in the infobox (for location-map purposes) and in a {{coord}} template elsewhere in the article (for the title display). The bot changed the infobox latitude & longitude to a {{coord}} template but didn't delete the existing {{coord}} template, resulting in a dual set of coords displayed in the title position (as here); thus, the population of the maintenance category Category:Pages with malformed coordinate tags, which detects cases of overlapping title coordinates, jumped considerably. I'm mentioning this because it also applies to many articles using other infoboxes. Is there some way you could program the bot to detect existing {{coord}} templates in articles and delete them when it adds new {{coord}} templates? Deor (talk) 16:15, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

@Deor: I think the bot is done with {{Infobox World Heritage Site}}. I've gone through the category and corrected all of the articles. I don't think removing other instances of {{coord}} is a good idea. As Tagishsimon points out, other coordinates could be marking other features. Some infoboxes have multiple sets of coordinates, and some pages have multiple infoboxes, each with a {{coord}}. It would only be safe to remove {{coord|...}} with |display=title that is not nested inside another template and the coordinates are the same. Most of the instances that I corrected from the category wouldn't be recognized as being the same, since of the multiple sets on the same page 1) one was dms, the other was dec or 2) both were decimal with different precision. I think setting |display=inline when the infobox code and tranclusion don't provide a default is a better option. — JJMC89 20:18, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Well, there was at least one case where the bot added the title parameter to {{coord}} in an infobox even though it wasn't the only infobox in the article, resulting in overlapping coordinates in the title position. There are enough cases that requite human attention that it may be best to let the bot do its thing and clean up afterward. I just worry about infoboxes that are far more widely transcluded than the ones the bot has handled so far. When we get around to changing the individual coordinate fields in Template:Infobox settlement to {{coord}}, the shit may really hit the fan. In some cases, the bot errors are due to poor usage of templates in the existing articles, but there are lots of cases that bots (at least in their current configurations) seem unequipped to handle. Response to managing a conflict of interest

Hi JJMC89,

I received your message about conflict of interests. Although I am a representative of the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, I do not believe that anything included in the article was bias in any way toward our organization. It was simply a factual list of all the services that we offer to the MS community.

My original question was whether or not it is possible for us to restore the page that was created last week? We think Wikipedia would be very helpful in directing users to us as a resource for those looking for help within the MS community.

Coordinsert

It seems that it's not possible to transfer the values of the coordinsert function to the {{#coordinates:}} parser function, at least not without the parser function being called twice, creating an error. This shouldn't be very problematic outside anyone who's still using the coordinates API instead of Wikidata (although dim: might affect Special:Nearby), but it's not exactly ideal. (There doesn't appear to be any local documentation for the API, the closest thing being a link to the MediaWiki page on its extension on Help:Magic words.) It could be possible to run an RFC proposing to deprecate the system in favour of using information from Wikidata—and OpenStreetMap, if necessary for calculating dim: and scale:—, but it would likely go in tandem with {{Coord}} being rebased entirely on Wikidata and Kartographer (in beta) instead of on local parameters and GeoHack. @Jc86035: So does coordinsert partially work or not work at all?

I don't know anything about how {{#coordinates:}}, the related API, or Special:Nearby work. GeoData has some information. Switching {{coord}} to an implementation that uses Kartographer instead of GeoHack seems like a good idea to me. (Wikivoyage may be able to give us some implementation ideas.) {{Coord}} already has some Wikidata implemented, and when Tools is down, we lose GeoHack. I don't know if we can go without local parameters though. For large geographical features we may want to map multiple sets of coordinates. Some pages/infoboxes have multiple coordinates sets. ({{Infobox river}} has six.) Can multiple sets be stored on and retrieved from Wikidata? I would suggest that Wikidata be the primary source — only using local parameters when it is necessary to provide multiple sets (if we can't use Wikidata for this) or override Wikidata values (if the Wikidata coordinates are correct, but not what is wanted in the article for some reason). Wikidata use seems to be controversial still, so having a two part RFC or two RFCs on this (Kartographer over GeoHack and Wikidata as the primary data source) might be a good idea.

If desired, we could support Kartographer and GeoData without the GeoHack parameters in {{coord}} so that the coordinates would still be available via the API. Partial {{coord}} example ouput:

@JJMC89: Coordinsert works, but only for the displayed GeoHack links and not the parser function. I agree that it would be a bad idea to completely phase out locally stored coordinates; I'm not sure how we would select each set of coordinates for articles with more than one, as there are several ways that could in theory be done (coords of different item IDs, possibly specifying its position in the order on the WD item, etc.). Account creation

Hi, I need some help understanding the process of account creation. According to what I've read, if you have the account creator flag, it allows you to mass create accounts, e.g., more than six per 24 hours. Although WP:ACCRIGHT doesn't talk about users who don't have the flag, the logical inference is users without the flag can also create accounts for other people, just not as many. What are the ways in which a user without the flag is notified to create an account for X? Is there some sort of request list? Why would he decide to do so if that's not normally his "job"? How does he create the account? It's a bit hard to ask all the right questions when my understanding of the process is so meager, but let's at least start here if you don't mind educating me a bit here. • Users that need accounts created for them for whatever reason (IP blocked, cannot read captcha, etc.) are directed to WP:ACC, with requests being made here.
  • The requirements to access the account creation interface (our request queue, ACC) are at WP:ACC/G#Qualifications for using the interface; the flag is not required. The current list of users with access to ACC are listed here. (ACC usernames are do not need to match on-wiki usernames; click on one to see a detailed report, which includes the on-wiki username.) The account creation logs for accounts created at ACC will match Requested account at WP:ACC, request #123456.
• accountcreator (list) allows creating more then 6 accounts per 24 hours, overriding the username blacklist (tboverride-account), and creating similar usernames (override-antispoof). (Admin also allows the same.) Without it, a user can create up to 6 accounts per 24 hours with no overriding capabilities. (There are also IP limits.)
• Outside of ACC, account creation for other users is done for edit-a-thons and other outreach/education events. Usually someone involved in the event's organization, will make a request at WP:PERM/ACC so that he/she can create many accounts. I don't know the details on how they handle creations at these events, but I believe someone with accountcreator usually sits a registration table to handle requests.
• In general, users without the flag or access to ACC should not be creating accounts for other users, especially a significant number of them.
• All accounts are created at Special:CreateAccount.

Coordinates from Wikidata?

While you're updating the template call for coordinates in infoboxes, any chance you could also think about switching them to use coordinates from Wikidata? E.g. [1]. Although that might be a step beyond what you're currently doing. :-) Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 00:56, 11 December 2016 (UTC)

@Mike Peel: While using Wikidata for all coordinates would be my preference, I think community consensus would be needed before doing so. Using Wikidata for a specific infobox could be okay with consensus on the template talk page. I would need to write new code; the bot would need to check the local values against Wikidata. Template:Infobox UK feature

There are a few loose ends to tidy up in the documentation which I will do in the next few days. The only problem is that |coordinates has lost |type:landmark|display=title,inline. Is it possible for that to be reinstated? Twiceuponatime (talk) 12:43, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

type:landmark is being added by the infobox if it is not provided, search the code for coordinsert. It can also be specified in {{coord}}. It looks like I missed the |display=title that was originally in the infobox, so I misconfigured the bot. |display=inline,title now needs to be added to {{coord}} in the infobox. Removing Shirin Gerami's dob - why?

Thanks for cleaning up this article further - but why did you remove her date of birth? Your edit summary doesn't give any reason; I'm puzzled. See later edits where I've replaced it, sourced - but if you thought it was unsourced a {{cn}} might have been more appropriate. PamD 08:28, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

I saw that an age was available in the BBC article; however, with BLPs where the DOB (in this case the year) is not widely published, I think it is best to leave it out. In this case only Gerami's age is published, which is more reason to leave it out, since a single year cannot be determined. Elvis Gomes

Hello. I'm facing a slight issue. The wikipedia page for Elvis P. Gomes (political figure from India) had been deleted. I helped edit a new one- Elvis Gomes, bearing in mind all the changes. Yet the old article (Elvis P. Gomes) continues to show up in search, with a redirect link once you select it. My question is- how do I delete the old article entirely? @Sleepdontweep: Elvis P. Gomes has never existed, except as a redirect to Elvis Gomes, which was created by PamD at 07:49, 20 December 2016 (UTC). Elvis Gomes (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) has been deleted multiple times due to community consensus at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Elvis Gomes. It doesn't matter which one shows up in search results as both take the reader to the same article. — JJMC89 19:01, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

Could you help me, please?

Hi JJMC, could I please trouble you for a bit of help? At User:Cyphoidbomb#Searches I've got some search shortcuts set up (you previously helped with one). There's one for [[Komail]] [[Shayan]] but the search string seems to contain the nowikis and I'm not sure if that's on purpose. Occasionally the Iranian IP hopper who submits this content will wikilink each word next to each other, like here. So I'm interested in a shortcut that will search for occasions where the words might appear not only as "Komail Shayan" but as "[[Komail]] [[Shayan]]" too. Does that make sense?
