- share ExpandTemplates url allows for easy sharing of your inputs to Special:ExpandTemplates. It adds a button that, when clicked, copies a shareable URL to your exact invocation of the page, like this. Other editors do not need to have this script installed in order to access the URL generated.
- show tag names shows the real names of tags next to their display names in places such as page revision histories or the watchlist.
- Tol:
- VisualEditor Citation Needed adds a button (under "Insert") in VisualEditor to add a {{citation needed}} tag.

- ColourContrib color-codes the user contributions page so that pages you've edited last are sharply distinguished from pages where another editor was the last to edit the page.
- Vukky:
- StatusChanger is a fork of Enterprisey's Status Changer, which adds a UI to the script. (using Morebits, so you'll need to have Twinkle enabled to use it).
All in all, some very neat scripts were written in these last few months. Hoping to see many more in the next issue -- drop us a line on the talk page if you've been writing (or seeing) anything cool and good. Filling in for DannyS712, this has been jp×g. Take care, and merry Christmas! jp×g 07:30, 24 December 2021 (UTC)

- I saw it as obvious humour, a clearly harmless exercise in getting a random number and it's the people randomly jumping to "compromised account" or "self-requested block" that need a trout. Still, that's what the joke-ruining {{FBDB}} template is for.
- (Next time, there must be a better cryptographic protocol for picking a random number without being able to change your answer. I guess you necessarily need somebody else's input though. Maybe you get them to "pick a card" at random where each card is the hash of a random 126-character string plus the suffix characters "01" through "38". You publish the cryptosystem including which hash you're using, but only reveal the random string after someone has picked. You can get any person to pick, maybe targeting someone on their talk page. I'm struggling to find the very excellent source I first learned about this method from—there explained through rock paper scissors—but this explanation will do. EasyWikiDev
edit(I can't remember if I sent this, so sending it just in case you missed it) Hi! I'm User:Ed6767. I'm probably best known for founding and developing Wikipedia:RedWarn, which is now one of the most used user scripts on the English Wikipedia. I couldn't help but notice that you also develop user scripts, so I was wondering if I could ask you to try and give me feedback on my new tool called EasyWikiDev. It's a new way to develop user scripts quickly and easily using Visual Studio Code, and only takes a few minutes to set up and install on your computer, whilst saving you the headache of constantly having to save edits and reload the page for every single change to your script you'd like to test. EasyWikiDev makes it so you can develop your script locally, on your own computer, and only publish the changes to your users when you are ready to - and unlike other solutions, EasyWikiDev reloads the page right away when you make a change, so you always see the latest version of your script. Plus, by using Visual Studio Code, you have access to some of the most extensive and helpful extensions and tools available to developers right now.
If you're interested, you can find the GitHub repository here and a video tutorial that shows both how to set up EasyWikiDev and how to use it (which you should watch) here. When you have tried it and would like to give feedback, or just need help, please let me know by pinging me - you'd play a big part in my goal to make user script development easier for all Wikipedians. Thanks again for your consideration, ✨ Ed talk! ✨ 04:06, 27 December 2021 (UTC)

I made my 50,000th edit at some point, I guess.
editI guess I wasn't paying attention. Also, I am not going to be able to find it by going back from my current edit count, since I just tagged a bunch of pages for speedy deletion... and it doesn't look like stepping forward from the early contribs will work either (since I've got a number of edits tagging pages for deletion, or on pages which later get deleted). Oh well. I guess I might as well find out what the 50,000th live edit was. 10k is this, 20k is this, 25k is this, 30k is this, 40k is this, and... the 50,000th live edit is this. jp×g 22:35, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

- @2003:C6:3737:14B7:7C88:7751:2C6E:449B:: This edit and this edit don't provide a source for the claims you're making; this one does (note that I did not revert it). jp×g 07:09, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
- You still don't care at all about contents, you act like a bot. In the first edit, I've just updated the entries for the three pre-planned shut downs, the due dates 2021-12-31 have already been in the table, in parentheses. In the second edit, I've added this chart of German electricity by source, disproving the unsourced and blatantly wrong claim that "nuclear electricity production was primarily replaced with coal" which I have removed from that crappy outdated article.--2003:C6:3737:14B7:7C88:7751:2C6E:449B (talk) 07:59, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
- There are actually no references for those entries in the table. I don't see anything that looks like a reference for the claim existing elsewhere, either. The article for the Brokdorf Nuclear Plant, for example, cites "the decommissioning of the plant is planned for 2021" to this page, which says that it was planned for the plant to be shut down "by 2021"... in the year 2002. Extrapolating from that to "it was shut down on December 31" is original research. Similarly, in Grohnde Nuclear Power Plant there is a source saying that a shutdown was planned for the end of December as of May 2021, but nothing saying that it's actually proceeded according to schedule. Finally, we have Gundremmingen Nuclear Power Plant, for which a single source says that ten years ago it was planned to be shut down in 2021. Surely, if a nuclear reactor shuts down, this is the kind of thing that ends up in the news, and there should be lots of coverage saying that it happened, rather than a bunch of coverage from decades previously saying that it was planned to happen. jp×g 08:19, 1 January 2022 (UTC)

The Woke Agenda
editI have been a long time fan of the Oriental cultures and their rejection of modernist ideals, so when I see that wikipedia did the right thing and refuse to give in to the trans lobby regarding Zombieland Saga, I feel compelled to contribute in removing wo9ke agenda from this fine website. Like in Zombieland Saga, the word "transgender" is never used in Raven Tower, so I think we should maintain the standard that any fictional character not explicitly refered to as such is NOT considered transgender, to stop trans people from becoming a more privildged group — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChaosCuteSoft (talk • contribs) 22:43, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
- I don't know about this "Spectrum Culture" website, but it seems to be mentioned in the Tor source as well (but not the Locus or Kirkus sources). Who knows? editLP did NOT play pop music on Hybrid Theory, the term "pop song" does not mean that it belongs to pop music as a genre. For example, can I say that AC/DC are a groove metal band just because someone said they have groovy riffs? No. 109.252.131.40 (talk) 09:52, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- @109.252.131.40: Music genres are a pretty contentious subject on Wikipedia -- generally, we require reliable source citations. I don't get too deep into it, so I can't speak more to how it works (apart from to look at consensus on talk and wikiproject pages). jp×g 22:38, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
Did Huggle go nuts?
editYou may want to take a look at User talk:Spotlightpromotions, I think huggle went berserk or something. 😄 Mako001 (C) (T) (The Alternate Mako) 11:15, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- @The Alternate Mako: This might require a bit of explanation. The user in question's first edit was to attempt to hijack an existing article by changing all occurrences of the subject's name to their own name. This is an obvious act of deliberate spamming, and accounts are typically blocked after doing this just a couple times... but revert dialogues will only prompt for an AIV report once they're at level 4. Of course, the intelligent solution would be to review the Huggle codebase and implement an override feature that allowed for starting at arbitrary warning levels the way Twinkle does -- but in the meantime we get this. jp×g 11:21, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- Ah, OK makes sense then. they mentioned "spotlight group" or something in the article, so I've UAAd them. Mako001 (C) (T) (The Alternate Mako) 11:25, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

(Using tools - it’s a problem when used too quickly). Had you said typos - I would have seen the issue. Multiple warnings for one edit
editAt User talk:Spotlightpromotions you posted four successive warning messages about one edit, all within a time span of two minutes. I guess that was due to some kind of error in use of Huggle, whether a glitch in Huggle itself or a slip on your part, but I thought it best to let you know, so you can watch out for similar errors in future, and avoid them if possible. JBW (talk) 12:03, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
After posting this message I noticed the section above, and it clearly wasn't a mistake. Please don't do it. Huggle has changed since I used it years ago, and it may be that now it really is only possible to post warnings at successive levels, but in those days it was perfectly possible to post warnings via Huggle at any level one chose, though most users thought it wasn't, and that they had to work their way up all the levels. Personally I never, or almost never, used to start off at level one, especially for vandalism. You may like to check whether it is still possible to over-ride the default levels. However, if Huggle won't do the job you want done, then post messages manually. You are just as much responsible for edits you do using Huggle as you would be if you made the same edits manually, and bombarding a new editor with a string of escalating warnings all for one edit just isn't OK.JBW (talk) 12:12, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- As it stands, the only options I can see in the interface are "manual warning 1/2/3/4", which seem to all be {{uw-generic}} -- there don't seem to be any user-accessible escalated warnings. I'm sure there is something buried deeper down that can be accessed to escalate faster in egregious cases (since it auto-detects current warning level, which means it is already adaptively determining which template to place and choosing automatically). I'll have to look into it further, though -- I am not very familiar with Qt applications, so writing a patch for this will be a bit harder than for other scripts. In the meantime, I do agree that it's not the best solution. Really, I should probably just report these accounts to UAA or AIV directly in the meantime rather than go through multiple warn templates. jp×g 23:19, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, it just gives the vandalism template. Sad. jp×g 00:07, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
- @JBW: After spelunking through the Huggle repository for about an hour and a half to see if it was possible to add additional shortcut hooks, I have come up with an extremely cursed piece of code:
def TypeWarning(): keyboard.send("m") time.sleep(1) datestring = str(datetime.now().strftime("%B %Y")).lower() keyboard.press("shift") for char in datestring: keyboard.send(char) keyboard.release("shift") time.sleep(0.1) keyboard.send("tab") time.sleep(0.2) keyboard.send("ctrl+a") time.sleep(0.2) keyboard.send("ctrl+v") print("Clipboard contents pasted to page.")
- The only problem with this is that it requires me to have "{{subst:uw-spam4}} ~~~~" in my clipboard the whole time the project's open (I tried piping text into xclip with os.system() but it didn't work because the program has to run as root to use keyboard properly)... and it doesn't actually work. About half the time it will just refuse to open the dialog properly and start trying to trigger other hotkeys. jp×g 10:43, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
- It works if I clear the entire queue. I hate software. jp×g 10:47, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
- I have looked at the Huggle documentation, which is extremely unhelpful. Many years ago, when I used to use Huggle, choosing a custom level for a warning was perfectly easy, as were various other things one might choose to do which weren't the default. It just needed a couple of clicks on buttons, nothing as complex as what you describe. However, at some time since then Huggle underwent a substantial redesign, and it is not at all clear to me whether a lot of things which used to be easy are now impossible, or just more difficult. In fact it was this impenetrability and lack of clarity and user control which was responsible for my not returning to using Huggle a few years ago. Goodness knows why the people responsible for making the changes thought what they were doing were improvements. Having said that, however, when I used to use Huggle I always kept a web browser window open in the background, and switched to using it when I needed to do something which Huggle didn't handle. Often I would find doubtful editing through Huggle, but then check it manually before taking action. Doing that, rather than just clicking buttons on Huggle, sometimes slowed things down a little, but if the alternative is sometimes doing things wrong, then it was worth that small cost. - You are correct. I am quite stubborn when it comes to fixing a problem with software (previous career choices have given me strong motivation to save wrist strain, and have also given me strong motivation to become skilled in different trades). But, as you say, the worst-case alternative is to spend fifteen seconds clicking on stuff in a browser. That said, I have come up with a version of the above code that actually works: I now have one button bound to just the
m
hotkey for opening a custom message dialog, and a second button bound to the function above to autofill the month/year and paste clipboard data once the dialog is open (if you want to look at some horrible code, check it out here). jp×g 11:48, 5 January 2022 (UTC)

Irresistable force paradox edit
editRegarding my edit edit to Irresistible force paradox, I belive I did document it adequately. My comment read "Remove the passage as it was off-topic". If you still believe that passage makes a meaningful contribution, please keep it by all means. I was just trying to help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.157.112.111 (talk) 03:07, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
- @192.157.112.111: It's fine -- there's nothing wrong with trying to help. In this case, I reverted the removal because it was referenced and seemed clearly relevant to the article (although reducing the size of the passage may be in order). jp×g 11:40, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
