Request for undeletion of a 'Articles for creation' draft.
Hi,
Kindly restore 'Draft:Udiya Baba'. I am afraid I could not devote time to edit it during last 6 months due to some unavoidable personal reasons. I earnestly intend to work on this article and resubmit it as soon as possible. Therefore, I would like to humbly request you to give me one last opportunity to work on it. I assure you I would resubmit it within 3 weeks, or at the most, a month. In case I don't, you may delete it permanently.
Thanks & regards, Rasucha (talk) 05:24, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

Dimitar Mitovski
Hello,
You have deleted a recent article written by me for Dimitar Mitovski. Yes the same text is on his vimeo page but it is in a neutral tone and I have permission to use the text. Mr. Mitovski is one of the most vivid film directors in Bulgaria and a creator of vast projects. The text in the article does not promote anything as it is a short biography of his career. Here are links from IMDb. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1190360/?ref_=nmbio_bio_nm http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1190360/bio
Can you please tell me what is the difference between the tone of my article and say https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Spielberg?

Request to restore the article
Dear JhonCD,
How are you? Back in 25 January 2015 a request to restore article on Zarmina Siraj Ul Haq was made to whom you refused on basis of certain issues as states below;
@Blackswan786: X mark.svg Not done - this article has not been restored because it does not appear to meet our guidelines for inclusion of articles about people. In general, Wikipedia considers a topic to be notable if there exist multiple reliable sources of information on the topic, external to the subject itself. Articles concerning people will be deleted on sight if they are considered to be unambiguous advertising or promotion, or if they do not contain a credible assertion of the significance of the subject. Wikipedia does not cover "emerging" people, only those who have already arrived, see WP:Notability (people). JohnCD (talk) 18:16, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
I am providing the relevant links related to article on Zarmina Siraj Ul Haq and submitting the request to restore the same again.

- No, sorry, all that those links show is that she is very active on social media and writes a lot of blogs and stuff. None of that helps to show Wikipedia:Notability, which needs references about her, written independently, showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." The only one that looks independent is gujjarspost.blogspot.com; I do not know how reliable a source that is, but anyway she is only one in a list of over 100 names. See WP:Notability (summary) for more explanation of what is needed. JohnCD (talk) 21:21, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
Stevens Worldwide Van Lines
Hello John, I submitted an article for Stevens Worldwide Van Lines, which you deleted due to issues with it sounded like an advertisement and an undisclosed conflict of interest. Because I was unaware on how to disclose a conflict of interest, I was told to re-submit the article as a paid editor. I was also told to create the article under a new username, as the username Ottaway was a violation of Wikipedia's username policy. I have gone ahead and made some necessary changes, including removing information that sounded like an advertisement, and have figured out what steps I need to take in order to disclose myself as a paid editor, which I will do for this article. Please tell me if there are any other necessary steps I need to take prior to submitting the article for review, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Higer1215 (talk) 19:13, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Higer1215: That was actually deleted by another user, JzG, after the discussion at WP:Articles for deletion/Stevens Worldwide Van Lines. I will give some advice on your talk page tomorrow; meanwhile read Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide and Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure and consider this statement, which if I had my way would be written in letters of fire on the sign-on page: Wikipedia is not a place for companies to tell the world about themselves. If your article reads like that it will not be accepted.
- Consider also the excellent advice of a very experienced Wikipedian at User:Uncle G/On notability#Writing about subjects close to you:
"When writing about subjects that are close to you, don't use your own personal knowledge of the subject, and don't cite yourself, your web site, or the subject's web site. Instead, use what is written about the subject by other people, independently, as your sources. Cite those sources in your very first edit. If you don't have such sources, don't write."

Dear JohnCD,
I read the entire article, I don't think they (MISPL Company) want to advertise. They are just giving history of their company and giving article about running services on their project.

Customer’s confidence earned with hard efforts of last many years is our most prestigious asset and we always go an extra mile to protect this asset. This combination makes MISPL as most trusted and reliable telecom service provider of Region." That's a blatant advertisement, the company writing in the first person, telling the world how wonderful it is. That is not what an encyclopedia is for, and anything like that is deleted from Wikipedia at sight. JohnCD (talk) 17:38, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

Importance of Aiklos
Aiklos is a R&D developper in search of a drug against cancer and also develops vaccine for people in suffering and needs. Respect hard work and do not delete the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Loichh (talk • contribs) 04:12, 26 April 2016
- @Loichh: Wikipedia needs references showing significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources, to show that the subject is notable enough for an article and to verify what it says.
- It's very odd: you would think that a US$2.47 billion "behemoth supercomputer bio-pharmaceutics manufacturer" with a ten-year history would have quite a lot of coverage, but all I can find is a Facebook page with 2 likes and a remarkably uninformative five-page website which can't spell "developing".
- When Aiklos finds a cancer cure, I'm sure it will get plenty of coverage. Till then, please don't waste our time. JohnCD (talk) 12:03, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
Deletion of Draft:Air New Zealand Boeing 747 hijack
G'day from Oz; with the deletion of Draft:Air New Zealand Boeing 747 hijack after the AfD, would the deletion of Draft:Air New Zealand Flight 24 about the same incident be uncontroversial? Cheers YSSYguy (talk) 19:12, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
- @YSSYguy: not an easy call, but I don't think so - the deleted one was childishly mis-spelled, this is much more like an article. I think I'd wait and see. If it's submitted again with no serious improvement, then back to MfD, citing the previous one. JohnCD (talk) 22:17, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

Deleted page history inquiry
Would you mind checking if the following deleted pages were substantially identical to the [previously] deleted versions for me?:
These pages were moved from the userspace (i.e. from User:AMscott12/Aaron hancox, User:ASC312/Enter your new article name here, User:Rahfatsalman/sandbox/Godinterest, and User:AGEX/Thirty Four respectively) to the mainspace by a user other than the user whose namespace in which they resided. The deletions go against the spirit of the "[G4] excludes ... content that has been moved to user space or converted to a draft" clause of WP:CSD#G4. I'd especially take issue if they weren't substantially identical to the [previously] deleted versions as many years had passed since some of the deletion discussions took place. Best Regards,—Godsy(TALKCONT) 04:51, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, but probably not today. JohnCD (talk) 09:26, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

JohnCD, I wanted to thank you for taking care of a number of Speedy deletions I've had to make in the Good Article review space, when people open reviews by mistake (nominators sometimes open reviews on their own articles, which need deletion) or have to back out of reviews before they start them in earnest. Once the page is deleted, a new, eligible reviewer can be found.
I nominated four such deletions on May 6, including this one. Three different admins took care of the first three, including you early on May 7 (you deleted Talk:Ping An Finance Centre/GA1). The page linked in the subject is the one remaining page to be deleted; it's been three days now, and I was hoping you could take care of it, since it hasn't been chosen yet. Thank you for anything you can do. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:39, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
- Done - it would normally be quicker than that, but the speedy-deletion queue has been busy lately, never less than 100 in the list, often over 200. JohnCD (talk)
- Thank you very much. I noticed the G6 subcategory was fluctuating quite a bit itself: up in the 40s, down to the teens, back up to the mid-30s, and so on. As you say, these are normally quite quick, 6 to 24 hours, but this one was lingering past its sell-by date... BlueMoonset (talk) 17:10, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

Stragile
John - Thank you for your reply and frankly your work on Wiki... I have long respected the integrity of the founders and not "cashing out".
I have to ask a a new contributor, why so many other books, movies and other media are allowed on the forum? Many, like mine, are defining new areas that tie old ones together... "Outliers" as an example. There are thousands of them. Please help me understand what seems like and un-level playing field?
Many thanks.
Shawn — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shjean333 (talk • contribs) 13:00, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
- @Shjean333: an encyclopedia is not a place for announcing anything new. That is specifically excluded by our fundamental policy WP:No original research. We only report on things that have already attracted independent comment and discussion. Our test for inclusion is called Wikipedia:Notability and looks for references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." The standard for books is explained at WP:Notability (books) and our approach to new words at WP:Wikipedia is not a dictionary#Neologisms.
- Outliers (book) passes those tests; the article has over 20 references showing substantial independent reviews of the book. Worldcat (another check we use for books) shows over 3,700 library holdings.
- Only after your book has been published and attracted independent reviews would it qualify for an article. Even then, it would be best to leave someone else to write it (see WP:COI). Similarly, the word would need to be not only in use but also the subject of independent discussion of the concept.
- In summary: Wikipedia does not try to judge what is important or significant. We use a less subjective test, by asking what other people, independently, have found important or significant. JohnCD (talk) 14:01, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
Thank you... good information. I will try and wait until this criteria is met. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shjean333 (talk • contribs) 00:06, 18 May 2016 (UTC)

Léa Salamé page in English
Hi, I am a relatively new French Wikipedia contributor and followed a MOOC by Wikimedia France to start contributing along Wikipedia's guidelines. Wikipedia suggests pages which could be translated and I thought I could help there since I'm fluent in both languages. Among the articles which Wikipedia is suggesting, there was "Léa Salamé", who is indeed one of the most famous French news interviewers at the moment (and hailed Woman of the Year 2014 by GQ France). I started translating her page from French into English (in a shorter version), but there was a "abusive content/vandalism" note while I was translating a paragraph (although completely neutral) so I've stopped there. It seems the page was deleted because it was abusive. Should I keep working on this bio or will it be deleted? It seems a bit odd to not have a page for her, since she's interviewing also foreign personalities in one of the top radio programs in France, and will be a key interviewer in next year's presidential debates. Otherwise I'll translate something else but this one seemed useful. Thanks ! --Tycoon68 (talk) 21:28, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) Tycoon68 Since JohnCD appears to be away from here for a while, I can answer your question here. Looking at Léa Salamé, the page was deleted because the user was abusing multiple accounts- therefore, a respectable editor like yourself recreating the article should be fine. My French isn't great, but if you translated the French article, including the references, then it looks fine to me- the references on the French page seem to show evidence of significant, independent coverage in reliable sources, as English Wikipedia's notability guidelines requires. Joseph2302 (talk) 21:54, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Joseph2302: thanks!
- @Tycoon68: I deleted the page as part of a mass deletion of pages from this troublesome sockpuppetteer, who also caused trouble on fr-wiki. The article was very short - only two sentences. Joseph2302 is right - you are very welcome to create an English article about her based on the French one. There is advice about translation at WP:Translation. Note particularly that, by the terms of the CC-BY-SA license you need to provide attribution for the authors of the page that you translate: a good way to do that is to put the {{Translated page}} template on the talk page of the translated article. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 21:31, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

User page
Hi , Thanks for letting me know about the speedy deletion request resolving. Article from this specific user is spamming wiki db,User:Jhoven Sulla it seems. (WikiGopi (talk) 21:54, 22 June 2016 (UTC))
- @WikiGopi: no, it wasn't spamming, that was a perfectly acceptable userpage. Read WP:User pages. The point of user pages is to help communication within the project, by saying things about the user that are relevant to their Wikipedia work, and that's what this one does - just like yours. We do get many people who only want to write a long boastful autobiography, but this wasn't one of those.
- Also, when an admin has declined your speedy deletion nomination, as GB fan did here, you should not simply put it back again. If you disagree, discuss with the admin. JohnCD (talk) 22:15, 22 June 2016 (UTC)

I want to fill full information of this celebrity. Please help me to create this article. Thank you!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Manishsinghbagi (talk • contribs) 21:13, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Manishsinghbagi: the deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mohan Rathore decided that he was not notable enough, in Wikipedia's sense, to have his own article, and the title should be redirected to the competition. After an AfD you should not simply re-create the article, so when you kept doing that it was protected.
- If you think you can now find references to "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject" to show that he is notable to the standard of WP:ENTERTAINER, what you should do is, first read WP:Your first article for advice, and then improve the draft article at Draft:Mohan Rathore. Make sure to cite references to verify what the article says and to show notability. Do not copy text from other sites: write in your own words. Do not use promotional language like "a very entertaining personality" unless you are quoting a reliable, independent source that says it.
- When it is done, ask the protecting admin, user Randykitty (talk), whether they will agree to let you post it. If not, you can ask at WP:Deletion review. JohnCD (talk) 21:44, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
- If I may add a remark here, after looking through the edit history of Mohan Rathore and Draft:Mohan Rathore, I think you might also benefit from reading WP:SOCK. Thanks. --Randykitty (talk) 08:23, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

Adam Mitchell
Hello. Just to let you know that Adam Mitchell (footballer, born 1996) is not a hoax. He is a young footballer from New Zealand, international for their youth national team. Here are sources confirming it: [3], [4]. He just signed with Red Star Belgrade (source confirming he signed: [5]) and since the new season is just starting right now it isnot yet added to the squad. That new user made him an unsourced poor article, that was rightfully deleted, cause besides the problems the article had, the plaer also still doesnt pass WP:Notability. However, that doesnt mean he is a hoax. Regards, FkpCascais (talk) 19:04, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) Even if it's not a hoax, it's still fine to delete it- right outcome with possibly incorrect speedy deletion criteria used. They still don't meet WP:GNG or WP:NFOOTY. If he makes league appearances for Red Star Belgrade, then he'll be notable enough. Joseph2302 (talk) 19:19, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
- @FkpCascais: thanks. Joweigha article was deleted. Need your help on how to solve issue.
Hello JohnCD, I have read the statement which you made.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:JohnCD/Whydeleted
I also love this statement which you made on your talk page because it is related to my article:
Creating an article that just says "Paul is a really good cook" doesn't provide a starting point for other editors to build on. Who is Paul? What kind of food does he cook? Who says he's good? How do we find out more about him?
I have read and understand the topic credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject
Significance is a much lower standard than notability. While the inclusion of reliable secondary sources may itself be an indication of significance, not including any sources is entirely irrelevant to an assessment under these speedy deletion criteria.
I am not paid for any article on wikipedia being written by me because I have read the Terms of Use on wikipedia.
This link talks about being a "PR" on wikipedia

RevDel request
JohnCD - pardon the unsolicited inquiry, I got your name from the "Wikipedia administrators willing to handle RevisionDelete requests" category. I am requesting two items in my block log (the only two, here - [6]) undergo RevisionDeletion. A brief explanation follows:
- Prior to 24JUN2016 I had no disciplinary history on Wikipedia and have faithfully worked to abide by all WP policies.
- On 24JUN2016 I was blocked, for the first time. The block was set at 30 days.
- As you can see from the discussion, a number of editors spontaneously opined that it was a "bad block". This discussion spilled across several pages and, in a subsequent ruling, Deryck Chan summarized that "There was overwhelming consensus that LavaBaron's earlier block was unjustifiable". Sphilbrick said there were "troubling things" with the block and subsequently intervened to request the block be lifted.[7]
- Less than 24 hours after applying the 30 day block, the blocking admin pulled it with the note "I misunderstood something". [8]
There is not only consensus, but in fact unanimous concurrence (less one), that the block was erroneously applied. In realpolitik, blocks have a two-form effect: (a) protection of WP from faithless edits, (b) punishment through a "Scarlet Letter" effect. While the block was almost immediately lifted as a misunderstanding, without a Revision Deletion of the block log, I will be made to endure punishment, in the form of the "Scarlet Letter" effect, as long as my account is active (which I hope is for many years to come). For this reason I am requesting my Block Log undergo RevDel. As Admins will continue to be able to view my unaltered log, I do not feel this would manipulate or negatively impact recordkeeping, but merely minimize the public embarrassment I will otherwise permanently have to endure as a result of an error in the use of the admin toolset over which I had no control. LavaBaron (talk) 14:01, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
- Is revdel even possible? --S Philbrick(Talk) 14:09, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
- @LavaBaron: rev-delling the block log is technically possible, but I'm afraid it is not permitted - the policy is at Wikipedia:Revision deletion#Log redaction. I don't think you need be concerned - a block reversed within an hour, by the blocking admin, with edit summary "I misunderstood something" is not really a Scarlet Letter. JohnCD (talk) 15:00, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
- JohnCD thanks very much for your fast reply and I appreciate your explanation to me it's not permitted. Based on your, and other, feedback received it sounds like it will be easier if I just wrap-up some outstanding edits and articles I'm working on with this account and then vanish it and maybe try returning with a clean start account in a year or two. LavaBaron (talk) 15:07, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
- You can certainly do a WP:CLEANSTART if you wish, but I really don't think it necessary. Many highly-respected citizens, including your blocking admin and at least one Arbitrator have non-blank block logs. JohnCD (talk) 15:43, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

New user, not so innocent?
You have Mfd an article by User:Derpface7 yesterday. I have made another Mfd on another draft. He is, I believe, doing some sockpuppetry here, [Revision] as 71.163.181.110. Same style same article names. I have found several articles where one line of faux history has been added to an article, typically in the New York state area, and reverted them. Here I reverted a link to a draft article, don't know if that's kosher. No citations and I added help to his talk page. I'm not an admin, so letting you know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cotton2 (talk • contribs) 14:55, 11 July 2016
- @Cotton2: hmmm, looks a bit odgy, but I don't think there's enough there to block, and he does seem to have some constructive contributions. I'll keep an eye. Thanks. JohnCD (talk) 21:56, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
Hi — can you please explain how in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dr. Usha Mukundan you came to the conclusion that there was a consensus to keep the article, when in fact zero out of the three participants argued for keeping it? And also why you closed it only a day after the discussion started? Was this just a finger-slip, or did you actually mean to do this? —David Eppstein (talk) 17:45, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
- @David Eppstein: close reverted. I certainly did not intend it - I have no idea how that happened. I closed a string of AfDs this afternoon, but they were all from July 5 or 6. Thanks for pointing it out! I had better check my contributions in case there are other funnies. JohnCD (talk) 17:59, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
- No problem — thanks for the cleanup. —David Eppstein (talk) 19:01, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
- @David Eppstein: I am the more grateful to you for pointing this out because on checking my contributions I found seven more premature closes - somehow, I had got onto the wrong daily log page and never noticed. That doesn't explain how I came to close Dr Mukunda as keep. JohnCD (talk) 19:09, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

Deletion: Noel C. Spencer
Hello JohnCD,
I saw that you deleted Noel C. Spencer today for questionable notability. I understand that his record as a county legislature and involvement in the local politics of Orange County New York fail to meet the WP: Politician guidelines.
I do not have the text body for the deleted Noel C. Spencer page saved and would like access to it. In working on the page I have found more information about his involvement through charities and sponsorship to further the recognition of Caribbean and Jamaican heritage.
I would like to have the text body to establish Noel Spencer's notability for his service to this community. I understand that the awards and certificates mentioned need to be cited properly and believe that they can stand as a body of evidence or a pattern of service to this specific community.
The case I'm making is that although Noel Spencer by WP:Notability standards is not inherently notable for being a county executive he is notable when taking his political record in coupled with his Jamaican/ Caribbean heritage within the region of Orange County New York.This does follow Wikipedia guidelines as per the example WP:POLOUTCOMES bullet number 7.
This information is well established in international Jamaican publications like the Gleaner (the oldest operating publication in the Caribbean) and various local ones. This does follow Wikipedia guidelines as per the example WP:POLOUTCOMES bullet number 7.
To put it short and sweet, would you make the text body of Noel C. Spencer available so I can better establish him as a notable person and give his article another shot.
Thank you, Newburgh12550 (talk) 17:14, 13 July 2016 (UTC)Newburgh12550

Deleted https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/INNOSS'B Page text recovery?
About a year ago you deleted the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/INNOSS'B page. It looks like it had a lot of biographical information I'd love to read now, but I can't recover a copy either through google cache or archive.org. Any advice how I can get ahold of it? (And if you can undelete it - I have some notable sources for it.) 2601:45:4000:CE8C:8857:1171:C769:1E4E (talk) 05:14, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
- That was deleted by "PROD-blp" - jargon for the automatic deletion of an article about a living person which has been unsourced for seven days. In those circumstances, it can be restored on demand, so I have undeleted it and reset the seven day clock. If you add a reliable source to confirm something in the article, you may remove the PROD-blp template at the top.
- That may not be enough to prevent deletion. If you want to save the article, I recommend that you add more references. It is not clear to me that his career has advanced far enough to meet the WP:Notability requirement explained at WP:MUSICBIO. Also, the tone of the article needs work:
- it is too promotional (statements like "not only a good singer and performer, but also an excellent player of Djembe" need to be cut unless they can be cited to an independent source)
- it reads like a Facebook page, him telling the world about himself, e.g. that his "commitment is to use his melody to bring peace". An encyclopedia article should be written from outside, from a WP:Neutral point of view, and should concentrate on facts, not opinions.
- it has a lot about all the people he has shared the stage with, but notability is WP:NOTINHERITED.
- In its present state, it is very likely to be nominated for deletion. If you want to save it, I suggest that you register an account (which is easy and free), read WP:Your first article, collect all the references you can find, and cut the article down to those facts that are referenced.

Talk:2015–16 Bengaluru FC season deletion
JohnCD, I have to apologize: when I requested that Talk:2015–16 Bengaluru FC season/GA1 be deleted, which you did (and thank you for doing so), I forgot that the GA1 page was transcluded onto the article's regular talk page and would transclude the deletion request as well, and didn't add the "noinclude" tags to prevent the G6 request from being transcluded along with it.
The regular talk page has been reconstituted by one of the regular editors, with the GA nominee template and two WikiProject templates, but I don't remember whether there was more to it than that prior to deletion. Can you please check the previous page, restore any material that hasn't been reconstituted, and also restore any history as well? The /GA1 page should remain deleted. Thank you very much, and again my apologies. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:16, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- @BlueMoonset: Done - I have restored the deleted version of Talk:2015–16 Bengaluru FC season and merged the histories. The version of 07:41, 8 June 2016 is the one that was deleted; your version of 17:49, 15 July 2016 looks the same to me, but I haven't checked in detail. JohnCD (talk) 21:26, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
User YoshiFan155's undeletion requests
Hi JohnCD. I've read both your and Nthep's posts at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion in response to YoshiFan155 and have a general question about undeletion requests. YoshiFan155 has not only made requests there, but he has also requested that the same images be deleted on the user talk pages of various admins. One admin undeleted three files per his request (see User talk:B#File:FlyingSorecress2a.jpg File:FlyingSorceress3a.jpg, and File:TomandJerryTitleCard3.jpg for reference, but unfortunately the reasons why these files were deleted in the first place has not been addressed at all by YoshiFan155. The Flying Sorceress has a non-fee screenshot of the title card being used in the main infobox which is fine, but there's really no justification for the other three screenshots since the way these files are being used is purely decorative, and does not (in my opinion) satisfy the WP:NFCC#8 and WP:NFCC#3a, and are clearly contrary to the guideline WP:FILMNFI for using screenshots in articles such as this. However, I am not sure whether it would be appropriate to tag these files for speedy deletion using Template:di-disputed fair use rationale since the we the result of an undeletion request or if they should be discussed at WP:FFD instead. So, please advise.
In addition, since B has undeleted these three files, YoshiFan155 has now requested that he undelete six more at User talk:B#File:SmittenKitten4.jpg File:Jerrybrassiere.jpg File:Yankeedoodlemousescreen.jpg File:Fattymariosm64ds.jpg File:Mario64dscourtyardlwm.jpg and File:MGM Cartoon 1963 (Regular version). If these are undeleted as well, then there is a good chance that YoshiFan1955 will simply add them the articles as before with any attempt to address the NFCC concerns simply because he/she simply wants to see the deleted images badly. I think YoshiFan155 is acting in good fatih, but also that he/she does not seem to get that simply describing these screenshots and adding them to plot section is not really enought to satisfy the NFCC and is also something that FILMNFI says should not be done at all. -- Marchjuly (talk) 03:07, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly: I've been away the last few days. While I'm still AGF at the moment, Yoshifan's lack of comprehension of the NFCC is disappointing me. As far as I'm concerned I will not undelete anything until Yoshi provides a full FUR for one of the images - one they can show that level of understanding I will be more sympahetic. I share your view that NFCC#3a and NFCC#8 are not going to be met but I would welcome an attempt. Nthep (talk) 13:42, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
- I agree. B's respose to Yoshifan's request for six more undeletions was to point him back REFUND: I have explained there why we have been reluctant to restore without more clarity about FUR and NFCC #8. Not sure whether to speedy-tag the three already restored or use FFD - I'll think about it. JohnCD (talk) 14:46, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
- I've already listed two at FFD and the other one for CSD#F6. I will leave a note for Yoshifan as s/he won't know otherwise. Nthep (talk) 14:52, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

How to re-create a page
Good afternoon,
My name is Artur. We were in the discussion and editing of the Cambridge Corporate University page, that was deleted due the the promotional statements and referencing, that didn't cover all statements to be prooved. At that time I didn't have specialized documents, that could confirm all information published.
However, now I have most of materials and documents of registration, etc. to proove all information about the university itself. Please, could you give a clue how to start re-creation process of the page in order to do everything right.
This is the link to the deleted page, that was edited many times in October 2015: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Draft:Cambridge_Corporate_University&action=edit&redlink=1

How is it possible that deleting a page also removes the history? Is there any way to retrieve it? - Tolkienfanatic20 (talk) 12:00, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Tolkienfanatic20: yes,deleting a page deletes the whole history, all the previous revisions; but they are still visible to administrators, and will normally be restored if the page is undeleted. Is there a particular page you are interested in? Kwak is a disambiguation page, and has never been deleted. JohnCD (talk) 14:35, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

- I deleted that as a result of WP:Articles for deletion/Pieter Bas Kwak, so I will not restore it, but if you have questions about its history, I could maybe answer them. School AfD close
Hi John. I see that you closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eden English School Btl as keep. Counting the keep and delete comments, that seems reasonable. However, I think that there were significant problems with many of the keep rationales. They cite WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES, which states that secondary school articles are generally kept if they are verified. However, in this case no sources establishing that this is a secondary school were provided in the article or the AfD. Surely that means the article fails WP:VERIFY? See also the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Common outcomes#Secondary schools and verifiability. Cordless Larry (talk) 22:29, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Cordless Larry: the way to challenge the result of an AfD is not simply to over-ride it: you should take it to DRV. I have done that for you at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2016 July 21#Eden English School Btl. JohnCD (talk) 12:07, 21 July 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, I was planning on taking it to deletion review, but the instructions suggest discussing it with the closing administrator first. If by override, you mean this, I was perhaps hasty to turn it back into a redirect, but the unverified material (i.e. everything) clearly shouldn't have been restored. In any case, thanks for opening the review. Cordless Larry (talk) 12:11, 21 July 2016 (UTC)
Spammer
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Kdnjha
Please stop this spammer. He created article about some local godmen Dayanand jha which got deleted. Now he is spamming about the godmen in pages. He even blanked my userpage. --Rainbow Archer (talk) 10:59, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
- You blocked him for edit warring but if you see his username which ends in "jha" and the page he created Dayanand jha also has surname "jha". His most edits are about inserting about this person in pages. --Rainbow Archer (talk) 11:11, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
- I don't know the significance of the "jha" termination. This guy isn't Dayanand, who died in 2015. The passage he keeps trying to insert seems to be a quote from Dayanand, or his opinion about something. It's not commercial spamming - the material might even be useful, in the right place, if sourced, but he needs to learn how to stop and discuss, not just spam it everywhere. Creation of a new university page
Hello John,
Thanks for your reply, I've studied materials you sent to me and mentioned links. The Cambridge Corporate University is the corporate university of the CPI International Group (http://cpigroup.swiss/CPI/About/34/History), (http://cpigroup.swiss/Cambridge-Corporate-University) that is under the jurisdiction of Switzerland, which is Federal multi-party directorial republic.
It means that each and every canton has its own independent laws and can decide on certificating universities and institutions. We have multiple documents of registration, then articles in a city newspaper of Wallis (canton), stating the start of the CCU teaching programs in Switzerland. And many more in digital formats as scans.
How is it possible to upload these docs (scan-copies) on Wikipedia in order to reference statements, so that people will be able to see them. Could you also please mention main documents that are necessary to upload to meet Notability.

Hello JohnCD,
I reviewed your reasoning behind deleting the article "Genie - A Terex Brand." All of the content within that article that I amended was from sources researched online and in industry publications. Since I spent quite some time and research building that page out, I would greatly appreciate it if you could point out the parts of it you believe weren't neutral-sounding enough. Ideally, if you could undelete the page with the contents in question amended/removed to be more neutral, that would be fantastic. Please respond at your earliest convenience.

I appreciate your in-depth information about Wiki's standards on article neutrality, as this will be helpful for me, going forward with future articles. I'll take a look at the resources you included on your July 23, 2016 message to me. Thank you for retaining a few of the changes I made to the Genie article.
I'm mainly viewing things from a lifting / manufacturing industry-wide basis and started with Genie, as their presence is significant within it. Before that, I compared the Wikipedia articles of these main industry players, and noticed Genie's wasn't built-out as much, compared to that of JLG Industries, for example. I used the JLG page as a loose reference. However, that may have not been the best approach, since I noticed last week that their page was flagged for having advertising-style content on it (it previously didn't have that marker). I could still see it, since the JLG page wasn't / isn't taken down.
Going forward, I'll focus on referencing and including industry / company webpages that are solely informational and don't go into "soft" statements that could be seen as promotional.
Best, LiftPro (talk) 21:07, 25 July 2016 (UTC)

Deletion review for Blue Embrace
An editor has asked for a deletion review of Blue Embrace. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Ushabti16 (talk) 00:20, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
Hello, there is several mentions at this wiki templates below about this band and this article in reliable sources. Thank you WP:ALBUM/SOURCE WP:MUSIC/SOURCE WP:MUSIC/SOURCES
- @Ushabti16: it would have been courteous to ask me and wait for a reply before going to WP:Deletion review; but I would have declined to undelete it anyway, because at WP:Articles for deletion/Blue Embrace the consensus of experienced users familiar with Wikipedia's standards was clear. Just being mentioned in sources in those lists is not enough: as the introductory paragraphs say, the comment "must be from a source that is independent of the artist, record company, etc." Interviews do not count for much, because they are still the band talking about itself; what counts is substantial comment about it from people independent of it. Check out WP:MUSICBIO and WP:Notability (summary). JohnCD (talk) 12:52, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
resp Reply
Hi John, thank you for the notice on my Talk page regarding the speedy deletion request of Hypernet. I replied on my Talk page a couple of days ago and no reaction. Here's my response for your convenience.
- Hi JohnCD, I should have explained in more details. The author of this article is User:Guylepage3 and even though the article is about the "Hypernet", it is also about "Blockstack" because one requires the other. The article states "The first implementation that provides DNS and Public key infrastructure for the hypernet i.e., for "traditional Internet" plus other networks like blockchain-powered content, is called Blockstack and was created by a community of open source software developers and engineers." If you check out the Github page for Blockstack you'll find a user Guy Lepage with an id of "guylepage3" is a developer of Blockstack. I thought under those circumstances, a nomination under WP:CSD#A11 was appropriate. What dya think? -- HighKing++ 16:50, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
I know this wasn't obvious and I should have pointed it out. It's not possible to separate hypernet from blockstack and since guylepage3 is a developer of blockstack... Anyway, I'd appreciate if you could take another look. Thank you. -- HighKing++ 15:01, 30 July 2016 (UTC)
- @HighKing: sorry I missed your reply - my watchlist is now so large as to be almost useless, but I usually check my own contributions to see whether any messages are no longer "current". Yes, if something like a hoax or an A11 is not immediately obvious, it's worth leaving a note on the talk page which the reviewing admin will usually check. In this case, I get your point, and if I had known I would have actioned the speedy, but having declined it I think I will instead (later today) PROD it with an explanation to the author about OR and COI. Thanks, anyway! JohnCD (talk) 13:48, 31 July 2016 (UTC)

- Thanks JohnCD. And a nicely put reasoning too. Much better than I managed. -- HighKing++ 12:54, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Brazilian copperfish hoax - page history?
I've found a possible addition to the List of hoaxes on Wikipedia page. The Brazilian copperfish was originally deleted as a hoax on 18 December 2008 (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Brazilian copperfish) and appears to have spread to a few minor travel blogs. However, I don't have access to the page history to determine when the Brazilian copperfish article was first created and how long it lasted. Since you're an administrator with an interest in hoax-hunting, do you have access to the creation date of the Brazilian copperfish page? Calamondin12 (talk) 02:10, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Calamondin12: It was created on 3 March 2007, but it was actually restored after deletion and moved to User:SteveBaker/Brazilian copperfish "to be used for hoax detection". Seven years on, it's still there, with its history. Pinging SteveBaker, who I see is still active, for comment, but I see no reason why you shouldn't move it to the list of hoaxes. JohnCD (talk) 11:41, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the ping. Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Archives/Science/2008_December_18#Brazilian_copperfish is the conversation on WP:RD/S where this hoax was uncovered. Someone posted a question about it - I searched everywhere for a reference to this fish, the genera it supposedly belonged to, the guy who supposedly discovered it. Zip, nada, zero. At the time, I asked an admin to keep the edit history so we could try to track down the miscreant who created it. This kind of highly convincing hoax article is very hard to track down and can be very damaging - so it's important to nail the evildoer in addition to nuking the article. Anyway, feel free to delete/nuke/move the sub-page. SteveBaker (talk) 14:11, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
Daniel Hasidim page
Hello
Why did you deleted Daniel Hasidim page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Hasidim)?
What is the problem? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniel12121 (talk • contribs) 20:14, 30 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Daniel12121: I deleted it as a result of the deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Daniel Hasidim (2nd nomination). Wikipedia is quite selective about subjects for articles, and for academics the "notability" standard is explained at WP:Notability (academics). That is what is referred to in the discussion as WP:PROF or NPROF. The consensus of those contributing to the discussion was that Prof Hasidim did not meet that (quite demanding) standard. JohnCD (talk) 22:18, 30 July 2016 (UTC)
JohnCD Thank you for your reply. In regard to that, I would like to ask you a question - In Daniel Hasidim CV their is onther detaile which I forgot to mention. During the last two years of his academic term in china, he was the head of the MBA program in peking university. Is that considere to be unique enough for wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniel12121 (talk • contribs) 07:38, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
- No. You will see from WP:NACADEMIC that just being head of a program or department is not in itself considered enough. JohnCD (talk) 13:35, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
Why not? Isn't the criteria ssy that a person is notable if he is:
5. The person holds or has held a named chair appointment or distinguished professor appointment at a major institution of higher education and research (or an equivalent position in countries where named chairs are uncommon). 6. The person has held a highest-level elected or appointed academic post at a major academic institution or major academic society. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniel12121 (talk • contribs) 23:32, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
- "Head of the MBA program" is not either of those - see this link. "Named chair" means something like the Chichele Professorships or the Slade Professor of Fine Art. "Distinguished Professor" is a particular title, e.g. Robert A. Bjork is Distinguished Professor of Psychology at UCLA, Barbara Ramsay Shaw is Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at Duke University. "Highest-level elected or appointed academic post" means something like Vice-chancellor or President - academic head of the whole institution. JohnCD (talk) 10:01, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
He is co-founder and vice-persident of Los Angeles university. The university will receive full academic accreditation from the US department of education in July 2017. When the institution will receive full accreditation, will that be enought to give him a wikipedia article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniel12121 (talk • contribs) 11:16, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
- I don't think so. Certainly not until it is accredited by a recognised accreditation agency. Even then, I see from their website that "Los Angeles University is an online life experience university rather then a regular one." That would not count as a "major academic institution", and vice-president is not "the highest-level elected or appointed academic post". JohnCD (talk) 15:03, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
If that is the case, why deos Shai Reshef, the founder of an online institution ("Universuty of the People") got a wikipedia article under his name? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniel12121 (talk • contribs) 18:21, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
- I'm not familiar with that, but from a quick look I see several differences: (a) Shai Reshef is actually the President, (b) UoP is a genuinely new educational model which he pioneered, whereas there are many "life-experience" degree mills (that term is used on LAU's own Facebook page), (c) UoP's degrees involve actual examinations, and it is accredited in a way recognised by the DoE. JohnCD (talk) 20:57, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
Los Angeles university also include actual examinations and submission of academic papers. In addition they receive accredition in every cuontry they working on, and they have cooperation Agreements with the universities dating beck 200 years old from all over europe. When it will be also accredited in a way recognised by the DoE, why the founder of an american accredited university (with thousands of students from the US worldwide), should'nt he deserve to receive a wikipedia article? Many people would like to know who he is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniel12121 (talk • contribs) 08:25, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
- Look, you are wasting your time here and clutching at straws. The LAU website says nothing about him being "the founder", it shows him as one of several "deans". But that doesn't matter, because I see no indication that LAU is any different from a hundred other diploma mills, so association with it does nothing for academic notability. Forget it, at least until LAU actually appears as accredited on the DoE's list. JohnCD (talk) 11:31, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
I know I am bothering you about it, but I have a simple question - when LAU will get full accreditation and on the site Daniel Hasidim will be mentioned as the founder, would he be entitled for an article in his name? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniel12121 (talk • contribs) 13:48, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
- No, it would not be guaranteed, because I do not think LAU would be considered a "major academic institution" for the purposes of WP:NACADEMIC #6. JohnCD (talk) 22:02, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

Dear John,Thank you,but as you say that article Ashish Seth,will be looked upon with submission,even after reliable notability issues are provided,how can old issues be resolved Peanutcase (talk) 08:00, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Peanutcase: if a new article has good references that show significant coverage in reliable independent secondary sources, that will be fine; when I said that it would be looked upon with suspicion because of previous sockpuppetry, I meant only that the references would be examined with particular care. Creation of company page about Deskera
Hi JohnCD,
Yes indeed, my past edits are about Deskera - and you can see from history that they've been about reversing an edit - so the mention was already there.
About the company page, I do notice that the existing page was deleted - and I suspect that it is a mistake, or reasons that are not really valid. Under the conflict of interest guidelines only, I'd like to request a creation of the company page Deskera - based on the information from http://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=321196095 (which is notable, independent and verifiable - and also detailed enough)
Kindly help with how to go about that, and be within the guidelines. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sansthapna (talk • contribs) 09:48, 9 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. I see the links and will study them and request the restoration of the page with relevant sources. Had no way to know about it earlier.
Clarification : I did not create the Deskera page - I only edited the mentions of the Deskera page in other places.
I'm Not very familiar with wikipedia; will search and add relevant disclosure information. It is not requested of me anytime, and I do not know what are necessary things there - so again thanks for the links and the information.

- @Marvellous Spider-Man: yes, it's evidently the same man, but it's a much better article. The previous version was salted after four creations within a few days last July/August, all unsourced and obviously autobio. I think this one should be treated on its merits - I doubt it would survive AfD, but I don't think it's speediable. If it looks like surviving, I'd be willing to move it to the old title. Speedy deletion nomination of User talk:Kamalesh golui
A tag has been placed on your user page, User talk:Kamalesh golui, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be blatant advertising which only promotes or publicises a company, product, group or service, and which is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages; user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. - @IdreamofJeanie: that wasn't my user page, as the name might suggest. I guess Twinkle thought it was because I had posted the first message on it. I'm glad it notified me, though, because he had posted his autobio piece on four other pages and I was able to roll them all back. JohnCD (talk) 15:00, 13 August 2016 (UTC)
AFC scripty oopsy
Looks like the AFC helper script thought you were the author of Draft:Infodynamics, I guess from the AFD page move. Not sure who should get this notice now? Cheers. -- 1Wiki8........................... (talk) 09:22, 14 August 2016 (UTC)
- @1Wiki8Q5G7FviTHBac3dx8HhdNYwDVstR: ha! I got another misdirected notice from Twinkle, see just above. This one is complicated: I closed an AfD on the article as delete, and later at the author's request restored it to draft for him to work on, explaining at User talk:Raysonik#Infodynamics what would be needed for it to be acceptable. He evidently (and I think correctly) decided that there weren't the sources around to show that this was more than a trendy neologism being promoted by a small group, because he did no more, and in fact has not edited since. Then yesterday an IP made a small correction to a header and also added the "submit" template.
- On the off-chance that the IP is Raysonik editing logged out, I have transferred the notices from my user page to his, and corrected the AFC template on the article to show him as the author. The IP is dynamic, but in case the same user is still on it, I have also explained at User talk:86.187.163.185 what I have done. Cheers, JohnCD (talk) 10:07, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi John RE: Undeletion of "Keith St John"
Hello John,
Thank you so much for your response. The plain truth of the matter of why I did not address this matter sooner is that my mother had been in an extremely dramatic fight for her life (beginning this past September) until around 1 month ago and she needed my attention so much so that some things in my life were forced to go on "hold." I apologize profusely for my absence and I assure you at this point that it is a very important goal for me to complete a properly written and well constructed article that will be accepted.
I have read the discussions at the four links you included in your reply. In addition I have contacted Robert McClenon at TEAHOUSE regarding getting myself some proper guidance on addressing the necessary issues.
Again, Thank You so much for your help.
Keith St John (talk) 19:55, 14 August 2016 (UTC)
- Done - restored to a new location at Draft:Keith St John. 20:05, 14 August 2016 (UTC)
- By the way, I have replied to him as to his request for help. I don't plan to give him the help that he wants, because what he is asking is for help in getting his autobiography accepted. At least, that is what I think he is asking. Robert McClenon (talk) 00:38, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
Hi John RE: Undeletion of "Keith St John"
Hello John,
Thank you. I will really get working on the page.
I have a major concern though. I had created a much more completed page with a lot of sections and several paragraphs that were quite extensive and involved with headings, formatting, etc. The ongoing draft page that i had was diligently created over some time before the short info box that is there now was made!
I am very much hoping that it is all still in existence and can retrieved.
Please let me know if perhaps there is a way to find this.
Thank You again John

- @Paras7674: read WP:Your first article and then make a draft at Draft:Mohit Baghel. You will need good references: to have an article, it is not enough just to be an actor, see WP:ENTERTAINER. It was deleted after WP:Articles for deletion/Mohit Baghel because people did not think he had (yet) done enough to be notable in Wikipedia's sense. - @TheNewGuys07: thanks for tagging it. I'm not sure what you mean by "the evidence"? There's the deletion log, which shows I have actually deleted it twice. If you mean why, I looked for any evidence that such a film was planned, and didn't find any. All I found was that some guy on a dynamic IP, different every day, was spamming references to it all over Wikipedia. Another helpful user had reverted most of them, and I cleared the rest. If you mean how did I delete it, I'm an administrator, so I have a handy "delete" button. As the hoaxer has a new IP each day, there's no way to block him permanently, so we just have to play whack-a-mole until he gets bored. JohnCD (talk) 15:21, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

Today I finally had the time to cross-check contribution histories, etc. I found the following:
- There is a large web of cross-edits amongst these users in the involved pages.
- There are a few logged-out accounts also editing there.
- The pages themselves look harmless enough until you realize that many of the names do not match the photos, and the much of the data is made up. Then I scrolled down to the bottom of User:Lcraft11 and found that the data appears to be related to a space-related MMORPG.
So, why I'm here: I though about creating an SPI, but I have no evidence of sockpuppetry, and they are at worst harmless meatpuppets. I could just get their pages deleted, but they look too much like Wiki Markup practice for me to make a case for that. The user's aren't being disruptive. At worst I think they simply aren't here to contribute, and I'm just here asking your opinion on how to proceed. --| Uncle Milty | talk | 21:48, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Uncle Milty: Thanks. I'll look at it when I get bored, but that might not be very soon... JohnCD (talk) 16:53, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

Deletion of a photo on Wikimedia
I uploaded a picture of Michael Sdao when I thought he qualified for a Wiki page. The page was deleted due to not meeting the standards required for a page. There is no page but the image remains on Wikimedia. Can you help me delete that photo?
File:Michael Sdao.jpg - Wikimedia Common — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jannienuts (talk • contribs) 04:22, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Jannienuts: that picture is now in Commons, a separate organization for holding media files. The way to request deletion is:
- Click on File:Michael Sdao.jpg
- Click on the words "description page there" a few lines below the image.
- Now you are in Commons. Click on "Nominate for deletion" under "Tools" in the left-hand sidebar.
- In the "reason" box, write something like "Unused photo, uploader requests deletion" and click "Proceed".
- It should be gone in a week or so. JohnCD (talk) 09:28, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
A quick thank-you
Hi John, Just wanted to say a quick thank-you for providing further details as to why my submission was deleted. For quick future reference... if third party sources do become available at some point in the future, would I be permitted to resubmit the article (with links to the sources, of course), provided it is written from a neutral point of view? Thank-you again. Julie Jlovisa (talk) 09:10, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Jlovisa: yes, provided the independent coverage is substantial, not just passing mentions. Read the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide and don't post an article directly, but use WP:Articles for creation to make a draft for review by an uninvolved user. Check out WP:Wikipedia is not a dictionary#Neologisms, and bear in mind that Wikipedia is very resistant to anything that looks like promotion. JohnCD (talk) 09:34, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
Could you please salt Paul Johnson (presenter), Up Late with Paul and Up Late With Paul? On each I had to request speedy deletion twice.--Launchballer 19:56, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Launchballer: Done for the presenter, I don't think it's necessary for the others, which have only 2 deletions between them. I have watchlisted them. My finger was poised on the block button, but he didn't edit again after your final warning. JohnCD (talk) 09:41, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
Help writing an article
Hi John, I really need help on writing an article, can you help me please! From HUNNSSHCU! — Preceding unsigned comment added by HUNNSSHCU (talk • contribs) 09:59, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
- @HUNNSSHCU: start by reading the links in the Welcome message at the top of your talk page, particularly Wikipedia:Your first article. Make sure you have enough sources to show that your subject is notable. Then use Wikipedia:Articles for creation to guide you through the process. That will give you the option to send a draft for review by an experienced user, who will either accept it or give you feedback.
- On talk pages (but not in articles) it helps to know who said what when if you end your contributions with a group of four "tilde" characters
~~~~
, which the system will convert to a "signature" of your username and the time and date, like this: JohnCD (talk) 10:20, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
Possible hoaxes for archive, and two false positives
Hi. I've been continuing research of old hoaxes and came across this academic paper titled "Disinformation on the Web: Impact, Characteristics, and Detection of Wikipedia Hoaxes." The text appears to include references to several hoaxes that aren't included on the page Wikipedia:List of hoaxes on Wikipedia. These include: Steve Moertel
Do you have access to the dates of creation and deletion for these articles? If you do, I can add them to the hoax list.
The paper also appears to contain references to articles that were deleted as hoaxes (Maurice Foxell and Burger King Stunners). After a bit of research, though, I've found that these articles are not hoaxes and were wrongly deleted. Maurice Foxell was indeed the Deputy Clerk of the Closet, an obscure but genuine office within the Royal Households of the United Kingdom, and according to the Glasgow Herald of 9 April 1960, he assisted at the baptism of Prince Andrew, Duke of York. The Burger King Stunners were an authentic team in the Philippine Basketball League, as documented in a GMA Network article and numerous other locations online. The latter team is now known as the Mail and More Comets, and the Burger King Stunners could perhaps be redirected to that page. Calamondin12 (talk) 01:12, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks - that looks an interesting paper, and I will read it while I am away for two days, but I won't be able to reply until I come back. JohnCD (talk) 09:10, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
Rakesh Agrawal
On what basis did you determine that the chemical engineer was the primary topic? Page views looks like a dead heat. Each gets 10/day. wbm1058 (talk) 20:46, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Wbm1058: I did that (untidily - thanks for this) in response to a db-move request from Boleyn which seemed to me reasonable; I thought a Distinguished Professor probably outranked a Microsoft Technical Fellow. But I have no strong views, and no objection if you think it should be rearranged. JohnCD (talk) 22:02, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
Hello. It seems that the primary title (Rakesh Agrawal) has been redirecting to Rakesh Agrawal (chemical engineer) for at least two years. This made it more difficult for people to find the other one, and was messy. I had a quick look and it seemed to confirm that the engineer was the primary topic, but I don't feel strongly either if you want to create a move discussion. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 07:33, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Boleyn: Oh, I see. The editor who grabbed PT status for the chemical engineer seems to have a special interest in promoting that bio, based on their contribution history.
- I can't totally fault them though, as the bio of the chemical engineer was first to occupy the title "Rakesh Agrawal" (started October 2011). The article on the computer scientist was started by 117.224.68.188 who simply, and rather discourteously, overwrote the chemical engineer's article (September 2012).
- The article on the chemical engineer was then restored by a copy-paste.
- I just sorted out the article histories by merging 25 revisions of Rakesh Agrawal (computer scientist) into Rakesh Agrawal, using Special:MergeHistory. (diff)
- Given this history, and the fact that the chemical engineer doesn't dominate in page views despite having the primary topic redirect, I don't think there is a definite primary topic here. I think it's hard to argue that either is primary based on "greater educational value" or "long term significance". I think the default should be to disambiguate, and if either should be primary, then we should get a consensus through discussion to make them primary. I am new to Wikipedia!! Need your able guidance
Dear Mr JohnCD,
Greetings of the day! Thanks for bringing out to my notice that Wikipedia is not for writing about yourself. As I am new to Wikipedia, I got confused. Moreover, when I saw the Wikipedia pages of many eminent personalities, celebrities, the pages look like more personal, wherein their achievements, goals, initiatives, brands etc. are mentioned usually. With this assumption, I was under a wrong impression that I too can create my Wikipedia page wherein I can mention my environmental, social and Business Excellence related initiatives. But, as you said, it is not so. I need your input / clarifications on following two points: 1) Although the Wikipedia pages of celebrities are more personal, how are they allowed on Wikipedia? 2) How should I make my work and initiatives useful to the community on Wikipedia?
Could you please consider shortening his block? The poor guy doesn't know better not to disambiguate like that. I looked at his contributions and I think perhaps he thought it would just be better to do that (which I thought at one early point, too). I think those creations of other pages may have been accidents. He received absolutely no warning other than an immediate block on his talk page. What he needs is a good lecture on policy, which he clearly never has received. If he's a sock that he tried really hard to make look good then OK but please, he looks innocent to me. He doesn't know better. dannymusiceditor Speak up! 15:41, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
- @DannyMusicEditor: I didn't block him for those unnecessary but not actually harmful page moves, but for creation of hoax articles - see WP:Articles for deletion/Horizon (British band), a non-existent band with facts and people mixed in from other bands; an article Frank Iero (musician) about the real Frank Iero which said among other things that he wrote the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books; an article presenting as real a fictional band called Löded Diper from the Wimpy Kid books, illustrated with this picture of Bring Me the Horizon and a link to the website of My Chemical Romance, and more. This is not an innocent kid who doesn't know any better and just needs a warning, it's someone mucking us about for fun. JohnCD (talk) 17:19, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
- Sorry to be slow replying - I wanted to wait till I had time to look through all that IP's contributions. The hoax about A Very Digimon Christmas was only on one day, 2 July, and hasn't been repeated. We don't like to block IPs for long periods, and this one only edits every few weeks (nothing since 23 July), so I don't think a block is required. The site that you say I copied content from has actually copied the content from the original site http://www.pptinnovationawards.in/. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Koshy auto (talk • contribs) 01:15, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
- @Koshy auto: it's still a copyright violation, no matter where it was first published. In any case, copying an organization's own website does not make a satisfactory encyclopedia article, which requires references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject" to establish WP:Notability, and to provide sources for an article which is more than just the story the organization wants to tell the world about itself. - @Sharadvermaofficial: it's an interview, so basically you talking about yourselves - not enough, in my view, for notability, see WP:Notability (summary). I have mentioned it at the deletion discussion, which will go on for another five days, so we will see what other people think. You are allowed to comment at the discussion, but tread WP:DISCUSSAFD first.
- Wikipedia is not for people to tell the world about themselves and their own businesses, or get publicity to help promote start-ups. There are sites like Facebook and other social media for that. The time for an article will be when you are well established and have achievements which make other people interested enough to write about them. Even then, your WP:COI means it would be better to leave it to someone else to write it. My advice is, don't put your effort into trying to get into Wikipedia, put it into recruiting artists and releasing music and growing your business. JohnCD (talk) 13:33, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
Extended confirmed protection
Hello, JohnCD. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
- Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
- A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
Turnstyle
Hi JohnCD,
I read through your Speedy Deletion explanation. I understand the reasoning behind the deletion of the page I created.
I am currently interning at a company and was tasked with making a Wikipedia page for the company. I don't fully understand how to go about this, honestly. I have tried to Google the matter as well as read through various explanation pages on the Wikipedia database. So if you wouldn't mind please undeleting the page I created as well as possibly giving me a brief explanation on how to edit and form the actual encyclopedia page, so that I could prevent this from occurring again. That would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you! Omer Ariel — Preceding unsigned comment added by Omer.turnstyle (talk • contribs) 17:52, 22 September 2016 (UTC)
- @Omer.turnstyle: no, I will not undelete the page because it is (a) copyright and (b) promotional. I'm afraid the answer to "how to go about this" is: you probably can't, with any hope of success. Whoever tasked you is evidently under the impression that Wikipedia is another social-networking site like Facebook or LinkedIn where people and companies tell the world about themselves. It isn't; it's a project to build an encyclopedia, which is quite different. What I have already written on your talk page covers the reasons, but later tonight I will add more there to try to summarise the differences in terms which you can ahow the company, and give you the best advice I can/ JohnCD (talk) 20:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
John this is Michael Miller. You helped me a lot last November when I was a neophyte on my Computational anatomy page. Since then I think we have had very good support and the community is contributing and I think enjoying it.
Please advise what I should do on this issue. I am being very successful in my University and in various ways, and people encouraging me to make a Wikipedia page. So I spend some time thinking and documenting my careeer. I posted it and appropriately it is going to be pulled down becuase I just realized the rules are that we cannot make our own pages (autobiography).
Can I have one of my colleagues who are Professor somehwere else post it for me now? Or since it is going to be pulled down, it really cannot appear again.
Is my name also now burned up, i.e. Michael I. Miller or Michael Ira Miller?
thank-you for the nice way you have always handled my DUMB questions. warm regards old dinosaur faculty from Johns hopkins university Mim.cis (talk)
- @Mim.cis: all is not lost: autobiography is discouraged (see WP:Autobiography) but it is not forbidden, and is not in itself grounds for deletion. The notice that appeared at the top of your page was a WP:Proposed deletion, or PROD for short; the system is that they are intended for uncontroversial deletions, and the notice may be removed for any reason or none by anyone who disagrees. Only if it has not been removed after seven days is the page deleted. Yours has already been removed by an IP (unregistered user) with edit summary "remove WP:PROD tag - that's not a valid reason for deletion".
- Once removed, a PROD may not be replaced, because the deletion is evidently not uncontroversial. The article may still be nominated at WP:Articles for deletion, which would start a discussion lasting seven days, where anyone can contribute, and at the end an uninvolved administrator decides what to do, not by counting heads but by considering the arguments in terms of Wikipedia policies and guidelines - in your case, mainly WP:Notability (academics). You can see what these discussions look like in this daily list: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2016 September 15. You would be welcome to contribute, declaring your interest.
- You will understand that once posted this is no longer your article, it is Wikipedia's article about you, and others can and will edit it. In fact, you are advised not to edit it directly yourself, but to point out any inaccuracies or proposed changes on the article talk page. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 22:12, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
Proxyth
I have noticed a while back that you deleted my page, and I would like to make a comment on that. You have removed my sandbox page which I worked on. I understand there was not much proof to back up what I was stating but that's simply because I am the creator of Proxyth. This being said I feel I have the right to write about it. I tried providing information about it that came from a reliable website or source. But because I am one of the few who contribute to this micro-nation it is hard to have solid proof again. If you can back to me on how I can fix this issue and how we can get around so that a page on Proxyth can be created then please contact me as soon as you can. Thank you for your time. -Jacob — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pccd12 (talk • contribs) 21:05, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
- @Pccd12: your sandbox was deleted because it had not been edited for over six months, so it can be restored if you like, but I am reluctant to do that because you will be wasting your time if you try to get it published as an encyclopedia article. Wikipedia is not a place for people to write about their own ideas and projects: the test for inclusion is called Wikipedia:Notability and requires references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Youtube, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people not connected with the subject thought it significant enough to write substantial comment about? See also Wikipedia:Notability (summary).
- More background is explained at Wikipedia is not for things made up one day and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest.
- I usually point people who want to write about their micronations to Wikia, but I see you already have a page about Proxyth there. Micronation.org is another site you could use. JohnCD (talk) 09:20, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
- @JohnCD: I understand, I would like it to be restored because I would just like what I wrote so I can have it instead of re-writing it all, but if it is a struggle for you and will be a problem than disregard and thank you this helped me alot.
- @Pccd12: I have emailed you a copy. JohnCD (talk) 10:55, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
She has helped a lot of women and men. The only reason she signed to be on the show the daily push is so she could reach a lot more people (since the show is worldwide) on cyberstalking. She has just recently put her name with the case. You deleting this only proves one thing and one thing only, that you believe that cyber stalking is not a crime. You are not allowing people to know they have a voice. If I need to created my own account to clear up any confusion please let me know, bc I am writing his not her. Unless you want women to stay silent about it then put it back up. Hanged will be made. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Krisdegioia (talk • contribs) 19:05, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Krisdegioia: Wikipedia is not here to help her "reach a lot more people". That is not what an encyclopedia is for, see Wikipedia:Advocacy. I have replied in detail on your talk page. JohnCD (talk) 19:46, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
Userfying portal and subpages
In January 2016, you reverted your move of Portal:Deep Web to User:Rezonansowy/Deep Web Portal after closing the MfD, but forgot to redo this move with subpages. Can you please move Portal:Deep Web, its talk page, and their subpages to User:Rezonansowy/Deep Web Portal, User talk:Rezonansowy/Deep Web Portal, and the corresponding user and user talk subpages now w/o redirects? 24.205.24.240 (talk) 02:21, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
- Done. Sorry about that, I don't know why I didn't finish the job at the time! JohnCD (talk) 16:59, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
Thanks
Sock
I didn't get this. I've never come across this user – is he a sock of Padmalakshmisx? —Vensatry (talk) 16:01, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Vensatry: sorry, I created that wrong. I meant to add it to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Kichappan, which I have now done. I reckoned that it was Kichappan, based on the signature, but he put your name on two Padmalakshmisx socks as well as three of his own, so its not entirely clear which member of your fan club this is. Are the two related? JohnCD (talk) 16:14, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
- I've lost count on the number of Padmal socks that I've reported. I think I've come across Kichappan, but haven't interacted with him though. —Vensatry (talk) 16:21, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
Drew Zingg
Hello.. I would like to post a page on Drew Zingg, a guitarist. I see that there formerly was a page, but it was deleted for a copyright infringement. Is it possible for me to see the previous page to see if I can just modify it? The website in question seems to have nothing to do with Mr. Zingg. Not sure what happened there. I have discovered several articles on the web that I could use to write / or modify a new and improved page. Please let me know. Thanks Ncmtman77 (talk) 01:33, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Ncmtman77: that website has obviously been abandoned, but you can read the exact same text as the deleted article here - it's evidently his standard bio spiel. By all means make an article: read WP:Your first article and WP:MUSICBIO for advice, and note particularly the need for references to verify what the article says. Don't copy from other sites, and I don't advise just trying to modify this one - beware of WP:Close paraphrasing. It's at least five years old, anyway, so there may be more to say. A11 Marco Carmona
I see that author username User:Noil01 is the same that the artist pseudonym in DeviantART (self-promotion). And it has no more contributions. It doesn't even have article in Spanish, in Mexico is not so well known as to have encyclopedic value. Xzit (talk) 16:33, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Xzit: well spotted. Another time, it would help the reviewing admin if you make a note of something like that on the article talk page. I still don't consider A11 appropriate, because he didn't "invent/coin/discover" himself. Autobiography is not directly a cause for deletion, but it makes one look very hard at sources and claims of importance. {{db-person}} would be appropriate, and I have added that. I didn't delete it directly myself, because except it 100% certain cases it's best to get another pair of eyes, so we'll see what another admin thinks. JohnCD (talk) 20:07, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
User:The Film Scorer and Researcher
Hi JohnCD. You previously issued a create4 warning for User:The Film Scorer and Researcher. I had them on my watchlist because of a uw I posted about non-free image use and I noticed this edit to their userpage. I took a look at it does seem that they might be misunderstanding what kind of content is allowed on userpages. Anyway, I left a userpage warning on their talk page, and then took a look at the edit history just to see if they had been adding non-free content to any other articles. I found List of Joaquin Timothy Tan's quotes which seems to be a list of quotes that this particular editor likes. I tagged it for speedy per A7, but it seems more like an extension of this editor's userpage than an actual article. Anyway, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind taking a look at this editor's userpage and the list article just to make sure I am not misreading things. If I did, please feel free to removed the userpage warning and the speedy tag I added to the list article. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:04, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly: Blocked as WP:NOTHERE, thanks. JohnCD (talk) 21:43, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you taking a look. If this editor is really 13, then perhaps they just misunderstood what Wikipedia is about and will eventually decide to return as a productive editor. If they are not 13, then maybe they really should be somewhere else. Is there, btw, a minimum age that an editor has to be in order to register an account? -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:31, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
- No, anonymity means there would be no way to enforce it. The youngest I have seen was (or claimed to be) 6. They get pointed to WP:YOUNG, and anything that gives too much personal information gets suppressed. I did that for this userpage once before, and have just requested it again. Wikipedia:TANJ listed at Redirects for discussion
An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Wikipedia:TANJ. Since you had some involvement with the Wikipedia:TANJ redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. Elvey(t•c) 20:08, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
