Admin coaching?
Hey Julian, I tried to catch you on IRC earlier, but I had to go, anyway I was wondering if you would be willing to either be my admin coach, or try and recommend somebody better suited to me. I applied on the requests page, but seeing the backlog, I decided to contact some possible coaches and decided to ask you first. I would like a coach who would less focused on getting to RfA, and more the type to give me some feedback on my edits, tell me about ways to help out on the project, and set RfA as more as a long term goal than the focus of the program. Thanks--Res2216firestar 07:35, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- User:Balloonman is a good coach.--Pattont/c 16:13, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Suffolk Punch FAC
Hi Julian! I see by the message at the top of the page that you're on a restricted WP schedule right now, but I thought I'd drop you a note anyways! A week or so ago, you commented on the FAC nomination for Suffolk Punch. I have responded to your concerns, and was wondering if you would mind taking another look. Thanks! Please reconsider your closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Exaile
Hello. You recently closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Exaile even though the discussion had not yet lasted five days. Current policy (see Wikipedia:Deletion policy#Deletion discussion) as well as current consensus (see Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard#Wikipedia:Articles for deletion) provide that AfD discussions must run for at least five days. Accordingly, I'd like to ask you to please undo your closure and relist the AfD. Thanks, Sandstein 22:09, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- It was open for five days UTC time. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 22:10, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- It wasn't, it had another day to go. Majorly talk 22:13, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- (ec) That is incorrect. The AfD opened at 00:53, 25 January 2009 UTC. Five days from then would have been 00:53, 30 January 2009 UTC. But you closed the debate at 00:19, 29 January 2009 UTC, or about one day too early. Sandstein 22:15, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- It wasn't, it had another day to go. Majorly talk 22:13, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- (also ec) The same applies to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/American Mayor(film), Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/...Fuck It?!, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eating Us and, judging by that pattern, probably several other AfDs recently closed by you. Sandstein 22:16, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- Fair enough, I've undone it. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 22:19, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you. You might want to review all of your closures of 29 January for the same reason. Sandstein 22:20, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- I've taken a look at the rest, and they seem to have a clear consensus. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 22:26, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- Well, that's not the issue, I think. The problem is that even a clear consensus formed in only four (or less) days is inadequate; our policy requires such a consensus to be formed over at least five days. Consider, for instance, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Allegations of state terrorism by Israel. While I do not express an opinion about the merits of the closure, surely such contentious issues deserve five days of discussion instead of three and a half? Sandstein 22:33, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- In view of your lack of a response to the comment above, I have listed several of the early closures you made on that day at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2009 February 1. Sandstein 09:51, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry about that, I didn't see your above post. In any event, I was not notified of that change to policy, so I thought "up to five days" still applied. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 14:46, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Whack! You've been whacked with a wet trout. Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly. |
Per this. However, as in the DRV mentioned, I endorse the closure as another day wouldn't have made a difference. It does seem that early closures are starting to generate some drama though. I don't think we need to wikilawyer over a few hours but it might be best if "ordinary" closes are allowed to run for an absolute minimum of 96 hours. --Ron Ritzman (talk) 18:08, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Hi Julian,
A Wiktionary editor named Simon Dodd purports to have transwikied the Leftosphere article to wikt:leftosphere; but he's not actually an admin at Wiktionary, so it looks like what he actually did is just copy the article verbatim. Can you check to see if Leftosphere had any other content contributors besides him? If so, could you undelete it temporarily so I can do a proper transwiki (so that these contributors have appropriate credit in the edit history)?
Thanks in advance!
—RuakhTALK 19:37, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks! It looks like Simon Dodd was the only content contributor (other editors just added the AFD and one category), so all is well. You can re-delete now. Thanks again. :-) —RuakhTALK 19:56, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

A proposal for Good article review swapping
I've had articles that have been listed for GAN for well over a month now. You have a few articles up for GA. I propose (if you have time for it) to review as many of your articles you have up for GA as you review for me. There's been some chat about this in the GA talk page, and it doesn't sound like a bad idea. I'm not asking for a favorable review because of this, just a review, even if it results in failure. I want to avoid some of the met articles from making the oldest nominations template, which one (wet season) is about to do. Thegreatdr (talk) 01:50, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
Progress report: Country outlines
Development has been slow but continuous:
Penubag has done a fantastic job on the images for the awards we'll be using for our project's collaborations and contests. We now have 3 awards: a medal, a trophy, and a race ribbon. They all look tight. The trophy needs a small adjustment, but other than that, all 3 awards are complete and ready to use.
Spartaz has warned us of (threatened to take) G4 (speedy delete) action if we run a competition that resembles the previously deleted Awards Center page. So whatever we do, any contests we run must differ substantially from the methods used there.
One type of competition I've been exploring is edit racing. I'm in the process of working the bugs out of this concept - the first race didn't work as expected - you see, because we only had an award for first place, the opponent didn't think it worthwhile to continue once it was clear who the winner would be. And since editors are in different time zones and usually need to start the race at different times, we need to base winning on personal start times - he who completes his assigned edits in the least time (rather than first), wins. And last but not least is quality control. What good is winning if your edits are ripe with errors? So I'll be exploring possibilities such as using a referee (whoever is overseeing a particular race), having participants watching each other for errors to knock them back, etc. I'm not sure yet.
Rich Farmbrough has been applying his bot expertise to filling in blanks in the country outlines (the population and area entries). I'm amazed at the number of edits he pumps out each day on a myriad of projects - ours makes up but a small time slice of his activity, and yet he has saved us many hours of manual work. Perhaps we should look into how he gets so much done. :)
Zlerman has chosen to work on one outline at a time, and is taking on Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. He also has been keen on noticing and reporting design issues pertaining to the whole set of country outlines. Keep up the good work!
Highfields has been filling in the names of capitals, and is our first race winner. Check out the award on his user pages.
As you probably know, this project has expanded to include working on any and all sets of pages that are linked to from the country outlines. Once the set of country outlines go live (in article space), traffic will likely increase for all the links included on them. The quality and usefulness of those pages will reflect heavily on the country outlines (the outlines, which are essentially lists of links, are only as good as the links they present), and therefore we've branched out to solve the biggest problems with those as well. So far, we've taken on:
- The creation of disambiguation pages for country adjectivals ("German", "French", "Taiwanese", etc. About half done.)
- The clean-up of the CIA World Factbook statistics on the "demographics of" country pages. We've been renaming those sections to provide a key string that AWB can use for targetting (for skipping and filtering). Once that's done, we'll be able to break the clean-up down into simple AWB search/replace tasks, because we'll be able to target just those pages that include the CIA stuff.
- Renaming the "Cuisine of" articles to their adjectival forms ("Chinese cuisine", "Italian cuisine", etc.)
Blackadam2 and Thehelpfulone have been helping out with the "demographics of" pages mentioned above.
And we have a couple speed addicts (addicted to wiki-velocity, not drugs)...
Both Robert Skyhawk and Thehelpfulone prefer (and excel at) simple AWB search/replaces. Robert hasn't actually joined our team yet, but he has been helping out quite a bit from the sidelines (via the WP:AWB/Tasks page. Unfortunately, there has recently been a non-AWB chore that has been holding things up on the AWB front - an edit to all the the headings which had to be reverted before too many new edits were made, because any new edits would make the reversion more difficult. The headings have been restored, so now the way is clear for AWB operations, and there are many search/replace tasks in the queue. AWB assignments have started again!
There's a similar bottleneck on the "Demographics of" pages (the "keying" mentioned above), but that's almost cleared too. :)
With my internet access somewhat crippled, I've been finding it difficult to keep up with you guys. However, I expect to be accessing a Linky-capable workstation on a faster server (I'm on it right now, as you can probably tell from my contributions list for today), and so I should really pick up speed. Feels goooooood. :)
Recruiting has been a bit slow (but steady), due in part to my crippled access, and because we've been waiting for the images for the awards to be completed. I expect the team to grow more rapidly as the bottlenecks are removed.
Well that's what's been happenin', and here's what's in the pipeline...
I'm about to begin work on a set of lists that corresponds to all the standard links on the country outlines, and these will be presented on the Topic outline of countries which will be organized exactly like the country outlines. Aside from being an extremely useful navigation aid, it will allow editors to easily see the state of country coverage on Wikipedia. I'll provide you with a link once I get up to speed on this.
In the meantime, keep up the good work!
Cheers,
Julian is violating a Wikipedia rule.
This is not intended to be a personal attack, but I thought the cat-bad-grammar picture on Julian's user page was immature, so I looked up what is and isn't allowed on Wikipedia user pages. It turns out "Other non-encyclopedic related material" is not allowed...
Mike Doose
- Actually, there's no violation. It is well understood that userpages may be used to express the personality of the user, as long as it is neither excessive nor offensive. I strongly suggest that you get over being upset that your article was deleted, and focus on content. If you truly feel that the article can be brought up to Wikipedia standards (especially notability, and verifiability from reliable sources), Julian can provide you with the deleted copy in your userspace. You can use that to improve the article with references and in the fullness of time move it back into the main encyclopedia.
- Or, let me put this another and slightly blunter way: your article was deleted, it's happened to all of us. You can choose to turn this into some sort of personal animosity (and I can guarantee to you that Julian does not hold grudges, nor does he ever delete anything in order to annoy people), or you can take the opportunity to learn about Wikipedia's basic policies and guidelines in order to become a better editor. It's your choice, but I will caution you that only one of those choices is likely to ensure that you can keep editing Wikipedia. That's not a threat; it's an observation on how these things tend to go.
- Please also note that you do need to sign your posts. If you want to have your posts signed using your real name as opposed to your account name, click on 'preferences', under 'signature' select the checkbox that says 'enable raw signature', and paste the following text into the box:

- I see. Well, I hate to tell you this, but I have to say you're gonna have a real hard time trying to make that case stick. First off, no one else seems to be offended by lulcat images. Secondly, you have a very recent record of arguing with Julian. That would make it look like just an expansion/continuation of the disagreement. Personally, and I hope you don't mind me saying this, I would honestly suggest that you just take a break, take a day off, relax, refresh yourself, etc. Try to revisit your concerns later with a fresh mind and perhaps a little less leftover bad feelings from the recent deletion or whatever. Good luck in all you do Ling.Nut (talk—WP:3IAR) 07:17, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

- No, it's not. It's a fair warning. If you continue with this behaviour--which I see you have just been warned about--your editing privileges will be revoked. The wiser course is to not do things like attack other editors, and impersonate other editors. This guarantees that you can keep editing. Cheers. //roux 06:24, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Country outline tasks
For both of the tasks below, make the AWB list from User:The Transhumanist/Country outlines
Task #1
For clarification (so people don't get these confused with the articles), add country article name to the very top of all the country outlines. You can use AWB's prepend feature and have it insert , and then you'll have to fill in the country article name. Be careful to get the correct article name. China, for instance would be an error (the country article is People's Republic of China).
Beware, some of the articles already have it at the top. (That's what gave me the idea). In edit mode, see the top of Topic outline of Argentina, for example.
Task #2
Use AWB to replace:
"is: a country"
with:
"is: a country"
(without the quotes, of course).
My reasoning for the change is that the article "country" is very general, and includes many entities which we've given more specific classifications to.
Unfortunately, there isn't an article called "Sovereign state", and so "nation state" is the closest match. It even presents the word "country" as a synonym at the beginning of the lead paragraph.
If you think the above task would be a mistake, please let me know.
Have fun.

You recently deleted an article I created about the band Behind Yellow Lines, claiming it didn't meet the standards for inclusion. I disagree with this deletion. The article provided useful information and band history and deserves to be included in an encyclopedia. I was shocked at the lack of response on the talk page for the article and the lack of explanation for why the article was deleted. Additionally I feel that the picture that I was linked to when I clicked on your username was immature and unprofessional. I'm asking you to reinstate the article, or give me an actual explanation as to why it should be deleted. Thank you, and hopefully you will deal with this professionally and respectfully.

Re: Deletion of Behind Yellow Lines
According to Wikipedia's guidelines, an article is notable if it demonstrates recognition by sources "independent of the subject." In the article, I mentioned the recognition of Behind Yellow Lines by WHSD Radio. Also, what constitutes a reliable source? The goal of my writing this article was to create a reliable source for BYL's history because there isn't really one on the internet as of now. Would including reference to an article published by the Daily Herald or the College of DuPage be considered reliable?

Yaki Kadafi
It's inconceivable that Yaki Kadafi's biography page has been deleted. He was a founding and instrumental member of the Outlawz before his untimely death. His Still I Rise album with the Outlawz went double platinum, and he also has released two solo albums, which counts for 3 album releases. In addition he has appeared alongside 2Pac featuring on over a half a dozen charted hits most notably Hit Em Up. I strongly request that his page be restored. Stop deleting my article
Hello, I know we like things done efficiently on Wikipedia, but do you mind not tagging my article for speedy deletion and then deleting it whilst I'm still in the middle of writing the bloody thing!!! I'm referring to the article I started on Performers College. You deleted it saying there was no notability established, but until you give me a chance to establish it, you're not aever going to know whether or not it's notable are you? Crazy-dancing (talk) 04:37, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- That should do for a start? - Can you put a "do not delete me" message on there, whilst I just find a couple of useable references? Crazy-dancing (talk) 04:49, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I see you deleted the above per CSD#G11:G11, which I do not challenge (I did not actually see it let alone edit prior to deletion). However, I would appreciate it if you could wikify it, perhaps for now in my user space? Arena Rock
Excuse me, but I was in the middle of re-writing the atrocious Arena Rock article when you messaged me. Problems with the article: half the words are in quotes, it is lugubrious, lacks information, lacks interest. The "History" section was stuck with the myth that punk and grunge somehow "destroyed" arena rock, when a look at sales, concert tickets, ect. throughout the past 30 years plainly show the opposite. So Pearl Jam and Nirvana weren't arena rock bands? Guns N Roses? How about Ozzfest? There was nothing about sound system tech or anything informative at all about arena-scaled rock production. I'm punk as fuck but I also love arena shows and have been running soundboards and a roadie since I was 18. And I can write without sounding like I'm doing a book report for sixth grade show and tell. So where do you get off calling my edits "unconstructive" while I'm in the middle of writing it? If you wrote the article, suck it up, you wrote a bad one. If you're just playing "policeman", I suggest you quit until you can tell an informed user from a troll.Magmagoblin1 (talk) 21:21, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Regex tasks
Using AWB's regex feature and regex wildcards, you should be able to search for the country name on each country outline using a single search string, even though the country name differs on every outline.
Please take a look, and see if you can accomplish that. Perhaps Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Regular expression and WP:REGEX will be of help.
I have lots of search/replaces that include the country name.
I look forward to your reply with great anticipation.

Yes, I quickly re-read the username policy and feel the wording may need a tweak of sorts in this area. It's clear the name implies a bot account. The policy also disallows Misleading usernames, which this clearly is... -- Longhair\talk 04:33, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Need of your help
This is ridiculous, there is a move war over at WWE One Night Stand, which is now located at WWE Extreme Rules. WWE has not formally announced this name; last year they used the name One Night Stand: Extreme Rules and just because they have a schedule on the right side of their website says it will be called Extreme Rules is speculation because that was a secondary name so we can't speculate per WP:OR. So 1) can you move it back to WWE One Night Stand [needs an admin move] and 2)Can you move protect it until WWE formally announces, which if it happens, will be in June. Thanks so much.--TRUCO 21:16, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- In addition, a consensus was formed here to wait until official confirmation by WWE, so the move was against a formed consensus.--TRUCO 21:48, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I respect your decision since you really aren't aware how WWE works. I mean you could make your opinion known. WWE tends to release ticket information here about their future events, which includes pay-per-view events, here. In the ticket information subpages, links are given that give the all ticket information and the name of the event, such as The Great American Bash here. Now for the PPV in question, WWE publishes a mini-schedule to the right on their official website with upcoming pay-per-view events, which states that on June 7, WWE Extreme Rules will take place, however, last year WWE used the name One Night Stand: Extreme Rules to promote the event, so Extreme Rules could well be a secondary name once again. In addition, WWE has not released ticket information in the above link I presented to formally announce that change, so at the moment we can only speculate, which should be avoided, until WWE formally announces it. If this were official, they would have changed the URL and name of the event at the One Night Stand official website here. But if this does not convince you, I understand.--TRUCO 22:03, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- Nevermind, it was moved by an admin who is aware of the situation from WP:PW. Thanks, however =)--TRUCO 22:40, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

I would like to point out that the WWE's website had originally listed the event as One Night Stand. The name of the event was changed on the website. There is also a commercial that airs during WWE programming promoting WWE pay per views that originally showed the event as One Night Stand. The commercial has also been CHANGED to show the event as Extreme Rules. Also, the consensus mentioned above is only applies to a few people here on wikipedia. The general consensus of the online wrestling community as a whole (including every reliable wrestling news site) is that due to WWE's shift to PG rated programming, they have changed the name of the event to Extreme Rules since One Night Stand has sexual overtones. Should not the listing on WWE's official website and television commercials as well as the general consensus of the online wrestling community as a whole outweigh the opinion of five or six people here on this site? That seems to go against wikipedia's own consensus guidelines.Wwehurricane1 (talk) 04:56, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi Juliancolton, it's now been over half a year since my previous request for the mop, and reviewing that RfA reveals that you were one of my opposers last time round. I was wondering if you'd like to comment on my current status in the Wikipedia community, and if you believe I would be ready to run for adminship again in future? Deletion of Lifehugger
hi juliancolton, Am a bit disturbed on the deletion of my first article. It is not my first article.Have done many edits in 2007-08 using a different email id which i lost.i do think the article was insignificant as you said.but how can it become significant if its deleted 10-15 minutes into its creation. You should give new articles more time before starting to determine their content. And am sure aricle on the website http://www.lifehugger.com which is easily going to be one of the best free sites in the category is as or more significant as those articles in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Medical_websites .Please be more welcoming to newcomers who reach wikipedia as everybody here now was once a newcomer! And i suggest a minimum of 24 hours before an article is deleted and 96 hours if the auhtor adds the 'hang on' tag.An article completed in lesser time can be too shallow.
i love wikipedia.Thank you for all the work in keeping Wikipedia good.Kudos!
-thank you

Country outlines project update
There has been a flurry of activity on the project as of late - so much so that I felt compelled to write another progress report...
- More racing award graphics!
Penubag has completed 4 more award graphics for our upcoming edit races. They look great!
- New outline developer
Buaidh has joined the effort to develop country outlines. Like Zlerman, he has chosen specific outlines to work on. Which ones? All the countries of the Americas!
- Bots!
User talk:Thehelpfulone now has a bot, and User talk:Robert Skyhawk has requested approval for one. Work on the country outlines using these should start soon. I feel the technological singularity approaching. :)
- Regex
Several of us have been trying to figure out how to use regular expressions (regex), in AWB, and once we have done this, we should be able to insert country names into entries for all the outlines using a single search/replace regex.
User talk:Thehelpfulone has successfully used AWB and regex to complete a 2-line search/replace using the \n command.
- Regex repository - please add to it!
As a reference aid, I've set up the page User:The Transhumanist/Regexes for reporting the regexes we use. Please post regexes you've used successfully to that page. That way, everyone on the team can learn from each others' successes and we thereby leverage our experience collectively. Thank you.
AWB regex task
Where "x" is AWB's regex wildcard, use AWB's regex feature (check the box) to do the following search/replace:
Search for:
: Main article: Education in x
And replace it with the following 3 lines (2 lines of text with a blank line in-between):
: Main article: Education in x
Note: If you need help, ask User talk:Robert Skyhawk and User talk:Thehelpfulone. They are working on this type of thing too.

Hi, I've had a serious rethink and re-research of this nom. I still think that an admin should be in a position to grant rollback right away (I think rollback is fundamental, but then I've never been an admin, so ...) Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 1
Hi, Juliancolton. I notice you closed the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 1 (2nd nomination). So far so good... This was actually the second AfD, and the AfD notice at Talk:Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 1 now links to the first one, giving the second one's date. Also, this was a bundle nomination, including Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 2, Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 3, Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 4, and Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 5, and they all still have their AfD notices. Sorry to bother you, but I added my name to the list of people requesting to use NewPageWatcher at the end of January and neither a yes or a no has been received, yet many people who asked after me have had answers.
I appreciate that everyone on Wikipedia volunteers their time and as such I don't expect things to happen straight away, but I was concerned that I was accidentally missed or if there's some sort of problem/reason as to why I can't be granted then that's fine, but I'd just like to know if possible?

I don't wish to start an edit war, but Atilim Borlu has added massive amounts of information irrelevant[2] to the article. He/She has done this without any consensus on the talk page. I feel this has bogged down the article and diverted it from what it should say. A small example of the information added by Atilim Borlu;
The Persian Campaign Autumn of 1914; Theodore G. Chernozubov and his Persian Cossack Brigade has been in the region since 1906. General Tovmas Nazarbekian was transferred to the Region.[1] Out of the 20,000 Armenian volunteers who responded to the early call (1914), only 7,000 were given arms at the time, because the Russian authorities distributed 24,000 rifles to the Kurds in Persia and in the district of Van.[1] The Russians forces in Persia, not counting indegionious Persian Cossack Brigade, had only one brigade of Russian troops under the command of General Nazarbekoff and one battalion of Armenian volunteers scattered throughout Salmast and Urmia.[2] On December 11, 1914, Ottoman preparation for the Persian Campaign began with the Enver Pasha's order to form of a provisional force.[3] I Expeditionary Force (XI Corps before war) assigned to Chief of Intelligence Lieutenant Colonel Kazim Bey (later Lieutenant General Kazim Karabekir).[3] This force was structurally self sufficient, capable of independent operations, and supplemanted with the 7 and 9th Infantry Regiments, a cavalry detachment, a field hospital, a transportation unit, and an intelligence section, a mountain howitzer battalion of two batteries, a telegraph section, a field batery, equipment repair battalion, a replacement depot and transportation assets.[3] Before even reached to the operational zone, it was bombarded by the British Royal Navy at Aleppo and suffered its first war casualties.[4] On its way, the original plan scraped and it assigned to the Third Army on January 10 because of the disasterous battle of Sarikamis.[4] For the Ottoman Empire Persian Campaign began without I Expeditionary Force. The only force available, and even remotely near the Persian frontier, was the Van Jandarma Division. This paramilitary formation was lightly equipped with artillery and machineguns, and was only suited for internal security functions, rather than for an invasion of a neighboring country.[4] Van Jandarma Division assumed the role of keeping the road to Persia open (or vice versa for the Russians), which pass through the Kotour valley (Kotur Pass). Van Jandarma Division assumed it's role on December 1914. I Expeditionary force would arrive in the vicinity of the city of Van on March 23, 1915.[4]
Your thoughts?? --Kansas Bear (talk) 05:05, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
- And again Atilim Borlu has reverted his information back[3], without any attempt to use the talk page. --Kansas Bear (talk) 05:18, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
American English vs. British English
Is there a way to tell whether an article is written in American English or British English besides just looking for whether certain words end in "ize" or "ise", or "or" or "our", or do you just have to look for those endings. And if not, how can I bring the issue to the attention of those who decide the way that Wikipedia works? I think that each English language article should have a way of saying which version of English in which it is written. Thank you. Belasted (talk) 05:49, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
- There is Category:Varieties of English templates, which lists a number of talk page templates telling readers which variety of the English language the article uses. Of course, you have to determine which version that is before placing it on the talk page. Matthewedwards (talk • contribs • email) 06:42, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of street names of drugs (3rd nomination)
I am just interested as to how the conclusion was keep based upon the discussion. From my understanding of the discussion, there were 6 editors who believed the article should either be deleted or transwiki'ed to 3 who argued for keep. I understand that wikipedia is not a democracy, but many of the arguements for keep were very weak (i.e. that the Hippie Dictionary provides a valid source). I would just like to hear your thoughts. Mrathel (talk) 05:49, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
- I have a hard time seeing how a list of street names of drugs can be considered anything other than a slang or idiom guide. If there were an article for "China White" that had the sole text of "street name for heroin", it would be impossible for anyone to argue that the article is notable or passes WP:Dicdef, likewise, a grouping of several of these together into a list fails to change the basic reason for exclusion. Mrathel (talk) 23:33, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Please pardon my continued interest, but where does that come from? Is that actual policy, or one editor's interpretation of the policy. It is a catchy phrase, but I can't see how one person can just say "well, this clause is intended for..." and have that be the new policy. Mrathel (talk) 03:32, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
- Very well, I guess I was just applying my legal conservatism a little too harshly to wp. I saw "street names" as a clear substitute for "slang" figured that a straight list is about the same as a guide, and was pretty certain of the outcome. I do accept your reasoning, but I still question whether the prescriptive/descriptive argument actually holds water or is meant to sound really intelligent:) Mrathel (talk) 04:02, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Using AWB, please add the Category:Indexes of articles to the pages listed at User:The Transhumanist/Lists of country-related articles.
Be sure to have AWB skip the pages that don't exist!
I'll create the category page after you complete this task (I did it before and it got speedy deleted for being empty - so this time we'll populate it first). :)

- Someone already did that and posting the e-mail onto their talk page (I originially thought it was the Ginny talk page, but I don't see it there). It's not within the archives of the project from early 2008. My guess is, even if you send another e-mail, they're not going to consider this a very important matter. If I remember correctly, they didn't consider it especially important within the previous e-mailing. If you want to, e-mail the NHC webmaster and they'll forward it along to the proper person. This is with to the Yezidi page. I am trying to include a section that carries sources which refer to the Indian origin of the Yezidi faith partially or otherwise.
The said user has been constantly reverting my edits, I have added more and more sources with each edit. What may seem implausible to one looks crystal clear in others eyes. Please let me know where I have violated Wikipedia policy to suffer this constant vandalism which has now been made official by administrators. If you wish I will list all the arguments that I have made, alternately you can look them up at the Yezidi discussion page, Yogesh Khandke and Ogress talk pages.
The Yezidi page carries references to devil-worshipping over 13 times, most insulting, racist and truth less. You can claim that this is how they were once perceived, what is the need to repeatedly use the word, blacks were once called N****s, use of the word today would at the best land one in trouble.
The Aryan Invasion Theory, now considered fiction, was considered science not a long time ago, and most of what that is written by the likes of Max Muller once considered the word of God by Indologists, is now considered the blabbering of a paid imperialist lackey. (I do not have references to support this statement right away, what is important is that The Royal Society or some other similar pompous body once ruled that railways are impossible as anybody or anything that goes faster that 25 mph is bound to fall apart)
Even encyclopedia considered most authentic are also edited by humans, for example Encyclopedia Britannica gave a wrong location for Mahabaleshwar, which I noticed and wrote to them, I do not know whether they made correction, I'll check and reply, if you wish I can share the letter they wrote to me.
The point is that there is a growing school of thought that includes Yezidis and Indians that feel there is a link between the two. An article of Yezidis should reflect this. As an Indian who immediately recognises the practices of the Yezidis as familiar and one who is hurt by their depiction by Islamic, Jewish and Christian sources in bad light, I feel this article should reflect the self realisation and the recognition of the Yezidis. It is important to take the cloak off the faith which masked itself in Muslim colours as a subterfuge and a camouflage to protect itself and its adherents. (I can give many sources for this, if you wish)
Kind do the needful at your earliest

My previous post about Mahabaleshwar
http://www.britannica.com/bps/browse/alpha/m
Mahabaleshwar (India) resort town, southwestern Mahārāshtra state, western India. It lies about 40 miles (64 km) southeast of Bombay (Mumbai)and northwest of the town of Sātāra at an elevation of 4,718 feet (1,438 m), in the Sahyādri Hills of the Western Ghāts. The town commands an excellent view over the coastal Konkan Plain from the steep scarp slope of the hills. Recognized in anci...
Mahabaleshwar is not 64 km but about 285 km from Mumbai, Britannica has not made the change inspite it being brought to their notice (by me). How did I notice the error, because I live near Mumbai on the way to Mahabaleshwar, there must be many more such errors, which all of us live with as the ultimate truth, because they came from the God's mouth or was it the other end.
So please let us have the section on the Indian Origin of the Yezidi's back

Help desired
Hey, Julian. I plan on temporarily coming out of retirement so that I can initiate my single largest good-faith effort ever; 'twould be located at User:Dylan620/Operation Goodfaith. I would use it to formally propose the good-faith unblocking of several editors whom are currently banned from editing. Right now, I'm thinking about proposing the unblocking of ChristianMan16, Cute 1 4 u, EddieSegoura, Encyclopedist, Flameviper, and Yqbd. If you think this idea is a good one, I will go ahead and create the operation. I will then post a notice at AN/ANI requesting community-wide input. If you disapprove of my idea, I will simply return to my retirement. If this goes ahead, three main things would happen. First of all, each banned user would be contacted about the operation via email (except for CM16, who can be contacted here). Secondly, I would ask the community for its input on whether or not these users should be unbanned. Thirdly, three volunteer users would be assigned to mentor those unblocked. So, what do you think? Should I proceed? (FYI, here are the users' sections at WP:LOBU; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. The userpage of each editor may also be of use.) --Dylan620 Hark unto me 16:43, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

So I see that you've declined to move-protect the article on Eazy-E. I guess that it's in the sense that protection is not a "pre-emptive" measure. I have a question though. Closing AfDs and the "rescue" tag
Greetings Julian. Just a quick note to ask if you could check for rescue tags surviving articles surviving AfD when you are removing the AfD notices; you missed one out here at they tend to clutter the article rescue category. Danke, Skomorokh 00:42, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

AfD
There is a problem at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rare Disease Day. A user creates a brand new account, admits that they are conflicted, is editing for a single purpose, and votes at the very same time. Such practices are forbidden by Wikipedia. However, Politizer is determined to revert war to keep in the vote. This is a clear case of CoI, single purpose, and day of voting. As an AfD knowledgeable admin, can you process this in the proper way so this can be addressed and dealt with? Ottava Rima (talk) 17:25, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- Also, Politizer is violating protocols here. This is a clear case of a CSD. Ottava Rima (talk) 17:27, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- Not a violation of protocol, I didn't create the article so I can remove the CSD. underconstruction specifically states not to delete an article if it's tagged and isn't obvious vandalism. It doesn't fall uncontroversially into any CSD criterion (there was controversy over whether or not it meets A7), so if you want it deleted you'll have to AfD. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 17:37, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- "Please consider" does not equal "specifically states not to delete". Ottava Rima (talk) 17:48, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Re: AfD comment
Juliancolton,
If you haven't had a chance to read the AfD yet, you will notice that Ottava Rima is accusing me of abusing multiple accounts and of off-wiki communications, with no evidence. I find this extremely rude and problematic, and in fact I've for a while been on the verge of going to ANI with it. So I think my disgust is justified. Thank you, rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 17:35, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- Also, I am not the first editor there to ask Ottava to lay off the accusations. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 17:39, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

- I stated that I had -half a mind-, not that I would, but that the situation was suspicious. JC is not a check user. I asked him above to check to see if protocol was being followed at AfD in terms of voting acceptability or not. Ottava Rima (talk) 17:47, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Tribe of Gypsies
Hello, good day. Well, I have just recently got into a band named Tribe of Gypsies, and I looked for info on them here on wiki just today, but the page was deleted. It seems just 12 days ago it was. I looked why, and it said that they were not significant enough or whatever. I think they are, they are the band of Roy Z, who works with Bruce Dickinson quite a bit. They even helped one album, Balls to Picasso. If it was just a tiny article, then I can see why it was deleted, but if I could get it a good one, would that be okay? Just curious. The 404 (more info)
I got your message, and there is one problem. I have to admit I am a Wikipedia beginner and some things are like a new language. Things I don't understand is the "Add a new entry BELOW THIS LINE copying the format: ====ARTICLE_NAME====

- ARTICLE_NAME (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) (restore|cache|AfD)
UNDELETE_REASON" part as I am completely lost. Could you guide me through the WP:DRV steps. Sorry if I sound like an ignorant person, I just find some of this confusing. (this may be best look through the editing page, not the main page, so you can see the code)
Please semiprotect "business letter"
Yes, "Business letter" is the correct article. It has been persistently vandalized over the last year. The vandals are from various IP addresses and do things such as wiping out whole sections, then typing things like "hold on I'll type something later", or typing in their own name, etc. As soon as it gets fixed by someone they do it again. They must be getting a kick out of doing this.Jonnyhottrod (talk) 03:16, 20 February 2009 (UTC)jonnyhottrod

Sorry if this does not belong in your talk page. Before I made the request for page unprotection, I contacted the admin who protected the paroxetine page to get an explanation, but he did not respond. it seems he did not read the talk page to see the lively discussion, and instead just lock the page for a month. Question about a block
You blocked by account indefinitely and I can't for the life of me figure out how to appeal it or even contact you. I am lolirockentertainment, existing for less than 24 hours, and would be more than happy to change my name. I just thought it sounded appropriate because I wanted to make pages for bands who recently signed to record labels. I'm not really a company or anything registered - not a promoter or pr guy or anything. I'm actually a journalist who enjoys writing about bands. I have a bachelor's degree, so I understand articles shouldn't have bias. I just wanted to share the information. I would like to legitimately have my username and IP address unblocked.Moved from userpage. PeterSymonds (talk) 22:29, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Please upgrade your AWB usage to include a bot!
Slowly but surely, our team members are upgrading to bot usage. So far, Robert Skyhawk and Thehelpfulone have added a bot (AWB, activated to be a bot) to their tool set.
Bots are incredibly useful, since you don't have to sit there and press the "Save" button for each edit - it just does all the edits and saves automatically, so it can do the work in another window while you are doing something else. The more people on our team who have bots, the better. There is a great deal of bot-work on the country outlines, and you'll find many other uses for your bot after you get up and running.
Please take the plunge and go for bot approval. I'm sure the two guys above would be happy to assist you through the approval process.

- Julian, talk to me on IRC later today and I'll explain to you what you need to do - you don't need to code anything! To use AWB's bot feature, you need to get a bot account approved through WP:BRFA, once it's approved it's quite simple to add you. The Helpful One 11:13, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Stanford page Blocked
I see that you have partially blocked the entry for Allen Stanford, and can understand the need - vandalism.
However, in the current circumstances, I think that the existing biography remains biased.
As a journalist, I would question the description 'philanthropist' in the intro section, and would like the word deleted as it paints the guy in an over generous light. Can be re-instated if he manages to ever clear his name.
There are now sufficient substantiated allegations that this guy is a frausdter.
However he cannot really be a philanthropist if it turns out that the philanthropy which was being described was based on fraudulently obtained wealth. In such a case, he is no longer a 'philanthropist' and the money being donated to good causes was not legitamately his in the first place. Please delete this positive label for the time being as it brings the neurality and accuracy of Wiki into disrepute.
I'm an occasional editor - I'm interesting in learning more about the process of who may block and unblock articles - can you point me to the info ...

Are there any specific tasks that need to be done? Apparently that needs to be specified in order for the bot to be approved. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 16:13, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
Before we can do the bot task
I've got plenty of complex bot (2-stage, substitution-based) tasks and plenty of interactive AWB tasks to assign.
But I can't at the moment find any simple search/replace bot tasks (the best type to seek bot approval with - keeps things simple).
So I might as well explain how to do this so that someone besides me knows in case I'm not always around. And there's no time like the present to prepare for the future. So, here it goes...
This will take some extensive Google searching to see if there are any new common country-related articles that can be added as standard links. (All it usually takes to add them in is a simple regex two-line search/replace - but I digress, now back to Google...).
The idea is to use Google's "domain-specific" and "title only" advanced search features to hunt for new trends on Wikipedia in country coverage.
Basically, in google you type in "of x". (Where "x" is a country name). Then click on Advanced search, and configure it to "title only" and add Wikipedia's URL to the domain field. As you get up to speed with this technique, you'll probably start editing the url directly in the url field at the top of your browser, but you could skip to an advanced method and make an url list of google searches on a user page and load them with Linky (this technique speeds up multi-Google searches immensely).
In the results, you'll recognize a lot of the article names on there (guess how I found the article names for the country outlines in the first place!) Look over the results, keeping an eye out for article names that are not already included in the country outlines.
(Using "-subject", where "subject" is the name of a subject, you can eliminate a lot of the standard subjects already in use, to make it easier to spot new ones in your results).
Then repeat for "in x", and look them over as above.
If you use the beginner technique, repeat the operation for about 50 major countries (their content gets developed and expanded faster, and you are more likely to see new trends arise with them - to find major countries, see the List of countries by population).
Once you think you've identified a new standard country article type, make a list that includes that article name for all of the countries of the world. This will show how extensive this article type has become, by the bluelinks that show up in the list. To make the list, you could copy User:The Transhumanist/Country demographics articles, and use WP:WikEd to change "Demographics of" to "z of". (Where "z" is the subject name, producing "rainfall of", or whatever).
(If the title has "in" instead of "of", well, you know what to do).
If it looks like a trend in coverage development is emerging, that is, like all countries' coverage will eventually expand to include the new article type, contact me, and I'll describe the bot task needed to add it into the country outlines.
Good luck.
Have fun.

Please review entry
Could you please review the entry for the article 81st Academy Awards nominees and winners. Massive vandalism, and disruptive edits by IP users adding improper information, and incorrect formatting has prevented those of us who would like to actually edit the article in a professional manner to have to face the 'edit conflict' message simply because someone had to make an edit like this one, for example. Thank you. Jason (talk) 03:22, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
The project may be catching on. Take a look at this!
Someone not on the team has come along and moved one of the country outline drafts to article space. This is a great sign, as it means the set of pages is attracting attention.
It's Topic outline of Romania.
Please help complete it ASAP. Here's why:
It's got some awkward stuff in there, including blank links, redlinks (that need to be bluelinked by creating redirects), and apparently irrelevant entries (kept for comparison purposes, that need to be filled in with "none"), etc.
Many editors tend to remove awkward stuff instead of complete it.
We should finish up Topic outline of Romania before they remove anything.
Thank you.
Good luck.
Have fun.
Hello, please could you un-semiprotect the 81st Academy Awards nominees and winners article? Most of the IP edits were not vandalism, and I think it's unfortunate to protect (for one full week, even) an article that lots of people who have never edited Wikipedia will probably want to edit constructively. Thanks, Shreevatsa (talk) 04:09, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

- Actually, most of the anonymous edits were, in fact vandalism, or otherwise unconstructive. –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 04:13, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
- Ok then. It was my impression that most anonymous edits were either minor and inconsequential or improvements (except for the half-a-dozen that were vandalism and were reverted), but I'll defer to your judgement of the situation. I still feel a week is too long, and that vandalism would probably decrease in two days or so, but again I don't have much experience of watching such heavy-traffic articles so maybe I'm wrong. Thanks for the reply, Shreevatsa (talk) 04:24, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
- Well, in terms of page-protection, a week isn't terribly long. This is especially true for highly-visible articles such as this one. Defending article: "Dr. Roger Birkman"
Hi, Julian -
I am new to Wikipedia and just posted the article entitled: "Dr. Roger Birkman."
I note that it was deleted and have read the related page on speedy deletions. I still feel the need, however, to query you on the reasons for deletion, as I feel the intent of this article may have been misconstrued.
Dr. Birkman is pioneer in the field of Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and this article is intended as completely non-promotional account of his life, accomplishments in the field, and his professional career.
Understanding the need for verifiable sources, I included several at the bottom of my entry, but I may have unwittingly included some other elements that flagged the article for auto-deletion.
If you could please explain the criteria under which this article was deleted and possibly provide me with some tips on how I could make the entry more "encyclopedic," I would be most appreciative.
Many thanks,
Jay

I feel the debate should have been closed as a keep, rather than no consensus, and wonder whether you'd be prepared to look again it. My reasoning is that all the deletes were made for the earlier form of the article, either in this state as a copyvio,[7] or then stubbed back with just four refs.[8] I then expanded it with 22 refs, thus meeting the delete arguments. Since then, there was a keep, a change of one delete to keep, and the withdrawal of the nom. There were no further deletes, nor did any of the deletes return to reassess, which they should have done in the circumstances, as the new state of the article effectively invalidated their prior position. I can't see therefore that there was any remaining strong argument for deletion, which there would have to be to merit no consensus on the new state of the article. Ty 01:38, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
- I realise that is the practical outcome, but no consensus leaves an element of doubt remaining, which is then on record, and in this case I don't think should be. I was about to contact the other participants to ask them to take another look, but the AFD ended 10 hours early. I'm not going to pursue the matter, but I am asking you to take another look, in the light of the above, as I didn't know whether you were aware of quite what had happened. Ty 01:48, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
- I apologise for any awkwardness, but I would feel happier if it were changed. It is your final decision, which I will respect whichever way. Ty 02:07, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

An editor was blocked and suddenly a few IPs are continuing what the blocked editor was doing—adding spam links to articles. Deletion from User Page
Hello, All I ask is for you to tell me what was wrong with the page you deleted. The links were full of Wiki-speak, which is a far cry from a simple English explanation. I am not here for an argument, and I trust your intentions were earnest. Just give me a simple basic reason so I know for the future what NOT to do. You can let me know either here or on my talk page. Thanks, Hamamelis (talk) 20:15, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for signing up at Wikipedia:Peer review/volunteers and for your work doing reviews. It is now just over a year since the last peer review was archived with no repsonse after 14 (or more) days, something we all can be proud of. Why was Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Near-birth experience closed as a keep? With an even number of votes each way, shouldn't it either have been kept open longer or closed as no consensus? ClovisPt (talk) 01:55, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Johnny Bravo
Hi, Julian. I don't understand your closure reasoning in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Johnny Bravo (character). Your closing statement mentions only the argument of Original Research, without addressing the additional very valid arguments in favor of deletion. Powers T 11:59, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I disagree that the preponderance of argument relied on original research. As you said yourself, original research is not by itself reason for deletion -- but almost all of the people who referenced OR as a concern listed it as only one among several areas of concern. I would urge you to take another look at the arguments; I think you'll find plenty of reason beyond original research that the article content is not worth keeping. Powers T 14:22, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Patrykbot as a username
Hi Juliancolton!
Patrykbot has been an alias that i've been using for the last few years online. Patryk is my name in Polish and adding the "bot" to it is a bit of a cynical point of view regarding our realities as being obsessed with the internet, information, and the digital landscape. I'd rather keep it but it will be an issue amongst the Wikipedia community then please let me know.
Cheers, Patryk
Unrealkitten block
Just wanted to let you know: I reduced Unrealkitten's block to 24 hours. While Unrealkitten was clearly getting very upset and ended up edit warring over the contribution, this was fundamentally an attempt to add material to an article in good faith. The situation was further complicated because one of the edits included some profanity in a hidden comment (which ClueBot reverted) and because the user had vandalized a prior article. So it's very understandable, but the only thing actually wrong in this situation was the edit warring. And, to a degree, the language Unrealkitten used when he/she got upset, but I think that's understandable given the situation. Mangojuicetalk 18:56, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

- What was the reason for deleting LoveGame (Lady GaGa Song)?
SunCreator (talk) 01:19, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

- There was no agreement at all, everyone gave a different reason. AFD is suppose to be a discussion not a vote.
- Why did you not give any reason what closing the deletion process? May I suggest you didn't give one because there was no consensus. Thus you gave it a delete as a vote. SunCreator (talk) 01:53, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

- Hi, i did not write the Wikipedia internal policy for, which lexicon is acceptable, I am only quoting the wiki-link to the policy Wikipedia:Don't be a dick. Green Squares (talk) 14:47, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, deleting someone's articles that were written with the best of intentions is uncivil. In addition, he is not reproducing the articles in their entirety, to skew the decision, the articles he posted are not identical to the articles I have written. The articles should be placed back and and an +AFD posted, which allows discussion. Simply deleting articles of this type is highly egregious and against the spirit of Wikipedia! Spam pages
Well, that's hard to do, as I'm simply tagging them as a part of the same spam-tagging process as I find them. The batch I've done is mostly two days worth, from New Pages starting in late January and some from a Google search. There's a backlog, unfortunately, because there's a huge and ever-increasing supply, not caught or looked-for by New Page patrollers which I'm working my way forward on. --Calton | Talk 14:54, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

Found some bot tasks for you! Search/replaces for "Demographics of" articles
Here are a bunch of search/replaces you can do in AWB all in the same pass on the pages listed at User:The Transhumanist/Country demographics articles. Pick just one to submit to the bot approvals group. :) Then complete the rest once you've got bot approval. But test some of these first before writing your request for approval!
During your "manual" test runs, set AWB to skip articles that do not include the text "CIA World Factbook demographic statistics".
Turn general wikifixes on, because there are a lot of blank lines in these articles.
Here are the search/replaces:
A bunch of these pages have links in their headings. Those need to be replaced, as follows:
- Replace "=Population=" with "=Population="
- Replace "=Population growth rate=" with "=Population growth rate="
- Replace "=Birth rate=" with "=Birth rate="
- Replace "=Death rate=" with "=Death rate="
- Replace "=Death rate=" with "=Death rate="
- Replace "=Net migration rate=" with "=Net migration rate="
- Replace "=Net migration rate=" with "=Net migration rate="
- Replace "=Net migration rate=" with "=Net migration rate="
- Replace "=Infant mortality rate=" with "=Infant mortality rate="
- Replace "=Infant mortality rate=" with "=Infant mortality rate="
- Replace "=Life expectancy at birth=" with "=Life expectancy at birth="
- Replace "=Total fertility rate=" with "=Total fertility rate="
- Replace "=Total fertility rate=" with "=Total fertility rate="
- Replace "=Nationality=" with "=Nationality="
- Replace "=Ethnic groups=" with "=Ethnic groups="
- Replace "=Religions=" with "=Religions="
- Replace "=Literacy=" with "=Literacy="
- Replace "=Annual population growth rate=" with "=Annual population growth rate="
- Replace "=Sex ratio=" with "=Sex ratios="
- Replace "=Human sex ratios=" with "=Sex ratios="
- Replace "=Sex ratio=" with "=Sex ratios="
- Replace "=HIV/AIDS=" with "=HIV/AIDS="
Some pages lack the headings and have the semi-colon no-level heading instead. So those need to be replaced:
- Replace "; Population:" with "===Population==="
- Replace "; Age structure:" with "===Age structure==="
- Replace "; Population growth rate:" with "===Population growth rate==="
- Replace "; Birth rate:" with "===Birth rate==="
- Replace "; Death rate:" with "===Death rate==="
- Replace "; Net migration rate:" with "===Net migration rate==="
- Replace "; Infant mortality rate:" with "===Infant mortality==="
- Replace "; Life expectancy at birth:" with "===Life expectancy==="
- Replace "; Total fertility rate:" with "===Total fertility==="
- Replace "; Nationality:" with "===Nationality==="
- Replace "; Ethnic groups:" with "===Ethnic groups==="
- Replace "; Religions:" with "===Religions==="
- Replace "; Languages:" with "===Languages==="
There are many more search/replaces, but this is enough for now.
If you have any questions, of course, fire away!
Good luck.
Have fun.

- They are still there. It doesn't appear that any of them have been fixed.
- Try again on "=Population=", to see if AWB is having a problem with the equals signs. It should catch the match on Demographics of American Samoa (and there are others).
- Whatever the problem is, please figure out what it is, so that we can verify it and bring it to the attention of the AWB programmers if needed. The Transhumanist 18:59, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, I see what I was doing wrong. Although, out of all the above tasks, AWB found 5 edits, so I'm still a bit unsure whether I'm doing it correctly. JCbot (talk) 20:05, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

"Demographics of" pages with links in CIA stat headings
Please, check your work. You should be suspicious when your bot finds no (or very few) changes to make. Earlier, you incorrectly stated that the changes had already been made. Therefore, before making such reports, you should verify that they are accurate! What actually happened was that AWB failed to change them. Please tinker with it some more and figure out how to get the task done.
Here are the demographics pages with links in their CIA stat headings (I was working on this list while you were finding the 5 you mentioned above, so it may not be entirely accurate):
- Demographics of American Samoa
- Demographics of Argentina
- Demographics of Belgium
- Demographics of Burma
- Demographics of Cambodia
- Demographics of Dominica
- Demographics of East Timor
- Demographics of French Polynesia
- Demographics of Greenland
- Demographics of Grenada
- Demographics of the Isle of Man
- Demographics of Jamaica
- Demographics of the Northern Mariana Islands
- Demographics of the Palestinian territories
- Demographics of Saint Kitts and Nevis
- Demographics of Saint Lucia
- Demographics of Sri Lanka
- Demographics of Swaziland
- Demographics of Trinidad and Tobago
- Demographics of the United Arab Emirates
The following pages have semi-colon headings with links in them (the second batch of search/replaces posted above):
A bunch more pages have headings screwed up in other ways.
I've added below some more search/replaces to handle the additional problems I've found.
Some more search/replaces for you

Not sure how to deal with vandalism
Hi, I'm not sure how non-admins are supposed to go about dealing with vandalism - it's a little unclear from the various pages I've looked at.
Anyhow, for various strange reasons I've been watching the edits on the Rambo page, where I saw you banned an account because it was only used for spam. Been a fair bit more since then, including a few edits from 67.53.104.214, who seems to be a persistent vandal. Not sure what I can do about it as a non-admin so I thought I'd pass it along.

The user Lucas20 has remove contents from hundreds pages in just few days. The destruction he caused is substantial. Many contents removed by Lucas20 are simply facts (not opinion) which are needed -- this is a type of vandalism. Please take a look at the contents he removed. The Transhumanist 01:24, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- Julian -- all these requests to move SOME NATIONALITY (disambiguation) to SOME NATIONALITY are controversial. When you do this, all the existing articles that link to that word are broken. These moves should be discussed on WP:RM and (preferably) notified to WT:WikiProject Disambiguation as well, as they affect thousands of existing articles in some cases. Thank you. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 17:25, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- No, they're not broken. The name of the disambiguation page changed, but the new name is still the same disambiguation page. The links to the disambiguation page will redirect there, and will be automatically updated in a few days by bots. No breakage. No problemo. The Transhumanist 01:53, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- No, you misunderstood my concern. There are, for example, over 4,000 articles now that link to Australian. Because that title has long been a redirect to Australia, we must assume that the editors who created these links intended, at least in the great majority of cases, to link to the article about the country. By moving Australian (disambiguation) to Australian over the redirect, you would change the target of all those links and inconvenience every reader who clicked on them. Problemo. I'm not saying it can't be done; I'm just saying it is a potentially disruptive change that needs to be advertised and discussed first. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 10:43, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Jan Bryant Bartell entry
Dear Ms. Colton,
As the author of the entry in question I wish to begin the protest process concerning the deletion of the entry.
After review of the deletion discussion I see no viable reason for deletion other than some individuals did not consider the subject important enough. Considering some of the entries that are covered in Wikipedia, I find this reason unpersuasive.
Granted, Ms. Bartell wrote only one book Spindriftand died during its publication process, but this book has proven long lived in popularity and interest and is a strong seller on the second hand market. The book has proven personally important to numerous people and is a interesting first person account of contact with the paranormal that is refreshingly devoid of New Age jargon and cant.
Bartell was a very reclusive and private author. Myself and others dug long and deep for the information presented which is accurate and factual.
Please reconsider this deletion and contact me as needed.

Subsequent warning from Myotis[19]. Is there anything you can do? --Kansas Bear (talk) 22:32, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
