NPR Newsletter No.11 25 May 2018

Hello Mr. Guye, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Deletion tags

  • Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.

Backlog drive:

  • A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Editathons

  • There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.

Paid editing - new policy

  • Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

  • The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.

Not English

  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.

News

  • Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
  • The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.

The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara

The Mortara case was a controversy precipitated by the Papal States' seizure of Edgardo Mortara, a six-year-old Jewish child, from his family in Bologna, Italy, in 1858. The city's inquisitor, Father Pier Feletti, heard from a servant that she had administered emergency baptism to the boy when he fell sick as an infant, and the Supreme Sacred Congregation of the Roman and Universal Inquisition held that this made the child irrevocably a Catholic. Because the Papal States had forbidden the raising of Christians by members of other faiths, it was ordered that he be taken from his family and brought up by the Church. After visits from the child's father, international protests mounted, but Pope Pius IX would not be moved. The boy grew up as a Catholic with the Pope as a substitute father, trained for the priesthood in Rome until 1870, and was ordained in France three years later. In 1870 the Kingdom of Italy captured Rome during the unification of Italy, ending the pontifical state; opposition across Italy, Europe and the United States over Mortara's treatment may have contributed to its downfall. Regarding my recent reversion

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that the recent edit I reverted by an IP was done because the IP removed a large amount of content from the previous edition without explaining why, and added 'New York' to the paragraph which did not exist in the previous editions. Moreover, he did this without providing a reliable source or edit summary.

Regarding your claim that I am blocked for the 'proliferation of hoaxes', you must have seen my block log which showed I was blocked a few days ago for 'edit-warring to protect the addition of hoaxes'. This, however, was a misunderstanding for my actions against the IP 73.209.66.109 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log), who was already blocked once at that point for disruptive editing on Lights Down Low (Max song), which can be seen at their contributions page. So, when I looked at that page, I saw that some of the IP's past edits had not been reverted, so I decided to revert them as well, thinking they were disruptive edits. However, when the IP was unblocked, he undid my reversion of his edits, making aggressive and threatening comments, which escalated to insulting me and calling me names (which can also be seen at their contributions page). Due to this, I was encouraged to further revert the IP's edits, but I was mistaken to think those edits I reverted were unconstructive; therefore I was blocked for two days for 'edit-warring' with the IP and 'establishing hoaxes' to articles, because I reverted edits that added 'circa' to '700 BC', and also an update for a view count of a music video on Youtube in June (by reverting it to the view count in May). You might also want to note that this IP whose edits I reverted (which led to my block) has been blocked for a third time yesterday for vandalism. Regards, JackintheBoxTALK 02:27, 13 June 2018 (UTC)

Ujjawal Krishnam

It is very important to put a reminder here as you have marked the mentioned page as reviewed once but now page has been nominated for speedy deletion which I am contesting. Don't consider this as a method of canvassing, I am just approaching you because you reviewed the newly made page. Your view point may matter in this context. See to AfD AchaksurvisayaUdvejin (talk) 01:20, 21 June 2018 (UTC)

Your comment was very derogatory to the subject. Please refrain from such age or class wise identification if you can't think above it. Third party publications firmly assert the fact of notability! AchaksurvisayaUdvejin (talk) 05:31, 21 June 2018 (UTC)

You haven't replied that. Why are you now rephrasing article then, if you don't believe in saving it? Just refrain yourself from doing so. I am exhausted. AchaksurvisayaUdvejin (talk) 08:57, 21 June 2018 (UTC)

ICHTHUS

July 2018

The Top 7 report
By Lionelt

The big news was the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The Top 7 most popular articles in WikiProject Christianity were:

    1. Elizabeth I of England – legendary monarch who ushered in the Elizabethan Era over the dead body of her half-sister (#5)
    2. Henry VIII of England – on his deathbed the last words of the king who founded the English Reformation were "Monks! Monks! Monks!"
    3. Martin Luther King Jr. – can't wait to see the new US$5 bill featuring the "I Have a Dream" speech
    4. Seven deadly sins – surprisingly "original research" is not one of the Seven deadly sins
    5. Mary, Queen of Scots – arrested for Reigning While Catholic (RWC)
    6. Michael Curry (bishop) – our article says that he upstaged Meghan at her wedding. Did you see her wedding pictures? All I can say is {{dubious}}
    7. Robert F. Kennedy – when informed that missiles were being installed in Cuba he famously quipped, "Can they hit Oxford, Mississippi?"

... that the little-known 1758 Methodist hymn "Sun of Unclouded Righteousness" asks God to send the doctrine of the "Unitarian fiend ... back to hell", referring to both Islam and Unitarianism?

The Last Judgment by painter Hans Memling.

List of dates predicted for apocalyptic events. Predictions of apocalyptic events that would result in the extinction of humanity, a collapse of civilization, or the destruction of the planet have been made since at least the beginning of the Christian Era. Most predictions are related to Abrahamic religions, often standing for or similar to the eschatological events described in their scriptures. Christian predictions typically refer to events like the Rapture, Great Tribulation, Last Judgment, and the Second Coming of Christ.

Polls conducted in 2012 across 20 countries found over 14% of people believe the world will end in their lifetime, with percentages raging from 6% of people in France to 22% in the US and Turkey. In the UK in 2015, the general public believed the likeliest cause would be nuclear war, while experts thought it would be artificial intelligence. Between one and three percent of people from both countries thought the apocalypse would be caused by zombies or alien invasion. (more...)

Errors

Regarding your insertion: {{Outdated|section|inaccurate=yes|{{Error|October 2008}}|date=July 2018}} on the Financial crisis of 2007–2008 article.

The {{error}} template is screaming that "October 2008" is an error implying that the date needs to be corrected (presumably to some other date). Please don't use that template this way. I understand that's not what you intended. Making the date the color red isn't going to get the article updated any sooner, and just wastes the time of editors like myself who patrol for user syntax errors... which is what this is. Thanks, wbm1058 (talk) 13:41, 7 July 2018 (UTC)

Shortening of Talk:Mass killings under communist regimes

On June 30, you made an edit which was supposed to shorten the archive time of the page to seven days. However, since that edit, no such archiving has taken place. Do you think you may have unintentionally made lowercase sigmabot III ignore the posts? If so, could you go back and correct this mistake - it is beyond my abilities. schetm (talk) 06:28, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
