GAN
editHi there, I hope you're doing well. I have a request: would it be possible for you to do some reviewing at WP:GAN? At the moment, you have had 78 articles reviewed, but you haven't done any reviews for others.
This would also help your nominations, as the ordering of the GA queues has been changed so that nominators with a higher review:nomination ratio are placed higher. If you do no reviews, articles such as Ocean Avenue (album) will continue to languish near the bottom of the pile. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 00:35, 3 March 2023 (UTC)
- Reviewing doesn't interest me all that much. Personally, I think the queue was better chronologically, though I realise consensus says otherwise. MusicforthePeople (talk) 14:26, 3 March 2023 (UTC)

editThank you today for Tell All Your Friends, "about the debut album by seminal emo band Taking Back Sunday, released in 2002. Although it received little radio support and charted very modestly, it sold at a steady pace, and became the band's best selling record. It became a gold record in America in 2009. In addition to its singles, it featured the emo staple "Cute Without the 'E' (Cut from the Team)" and the album was likened to Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory (2000) as an exemplary effort for its genre."! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:56, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

- HI MusicforthePeople, I found an oddly-placed section of text in the fourth paragraph of "Reception"; the Record Collector review (ref 22: Harley 2021, p. 116) is described as "dismissive" while the quoted text is quite positive. The quotations are "only to channel their founding exploratory impetus into exultant, reflective and wide-ranging new shapes" and "[b]oth an album for today and a testimony to their formative drive [because] it silences any fear that James might be losing altitude". I can't check the source because it's from a off-line, printed text; if you have a copy, please check the quotations here accurately represent the source's content. Anyway, there's not much else wrong with the article. Good luck and cheers, Baffle☿gab 06:51, 8 May 2023 (UTC)

England Made Me (Black Box Recorder album)
editHello, MusicforthePeople. This is a courtesy notice that the copy edit you requested for England Made Me (Black Box Recorder album) at the Guild of Copy Editors requests page is now complete. All feedback welcome! Cheers, Baffle☿gab 00:52, 30 July 2023 (UTC)) |
- Hi MusicforthePeople, I noticed a problem with the Reception section. A few of the reviewers appear to have been misquoted and their words used out of context. I fixed the ones I checked but you should really check the section accurately summarizes the reviews. Also, the article claims the reviews are "generally positive" (pre-copy edit: "Reviewers were generally positive on the album's quality") but the reviews don't read that way to me. It also says the reviewers "praised the album's lyrics" (pre copy-edit: "The album's lyrics were also praised by writers"), which isn't entirely accurate either; some of the reviewers were quite scathing. So I think you need to separate the positive, neutral and negative reviewers' comments in that section. I didn't check to see if the rest of the article is accurate. I realize English isn't your native language so you may wish to ask a more experienced music article writer to help with that section. Good luck with your GA nom and cheers, Baffle☿gab 00:52, 30 July 2023 (UTC)

Hey Music
editHi, Music. Not sure that this is the best or proper way to reformat newspaper refs--I don't see much point in moving out the page numbers. Is there a policy for this? Thanks! Caro7200 (talk) 17:00, 14 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Caro7200: WP:CITESHORT. This is standard practice across many music GAs and FAs such as Aftermath, Aquemini, The College Dropout, OK Computer and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. MusicforthePeople (talk) 17:10, 14 October 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry, but in some of those above, it seems that it more applies to books, etc., not newspaper articles...why not just leave one citation with the page number--like the Calgary Herald Everything's Alright Forever ref, for example? It seems like unnecessary and unhelpful work to change this stuff in shorter existing articles. Caro7200 (talk) 17:16, 14 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Caro7200: I don't see why it would be that different since newspapers can easily be filled under sources headers alongside books, magazines and others. I think it's easier to parse when having the page number and the source separate, but I'll surrender on this. MusicforthePeople (talk) 17:37, 14 October 2023 (UTC)
- As an addendum: The style guide at WP Albums recommends using the shortened form. MusicforthePeople (talk) 07:26, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
- Music, I think we have different interpretations of this, and unless I'm wrong, you recently started with this format? If an article uses an album review from page C8 of The Boston Globe, for example, I don't think it makes sense to separate the C8 part, and create two places for one ref. But maybe it's worth clarifying on the Albums talk page. Caro7200 (talk) 14:58, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Caro7200: Not recently – since 2014; I saw the formatting used for a few years (on here and in books) before I started using it. MusicforthePeople (talk) 15:20, 15 October 2023 (UTC)

- Hi MusicforthePeople, I've found a couple of bits of ambiguous text. In "Collins' arrival and writing" 1st para, I've added a [specify] tag to mark an ambiguous pronoun; and I've marked an ambiguous "they" in the second para of "Composition and lyrics" --> "Tracks" with [clarification needed]. I also split off commercial performance into its own subsection. Other than that, it's looking good. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 19:16, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
