Reference system
Hi.
Please avoid further reversions of the reference system until it has been discussed in the case which I am about to open.
Greetings,
— Breadbasket 17:25, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
- Do you disagree with the improved reference system? If yes, why? It is not a sufficient argument that it ‘is fine’.
- Greetings,
Betty Carter
Thank you so much Gareth! It's been a lot of fun. Make sure when you're done with your page to put the link on the Betty Carter page. I definitely want to see the finished result! Maureenkhoff365 (talk) 18:16, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

First and last request
Kindly stay away from my article, it is under watch by some of the most senior editors on Wikipedia and because of your lack of knowledge about hip hop you put up that banner on my page and after I saved the article, it went back to the same because of that banner, there are 2 valid sources about Sanki King being the only super hip hopper in Pakistan, all my editing of 2 hours has gone down the drain. A super hip hopper is a term used for a person who has mastered all 4 elements of hip hop, talk to KRS ONE or Caddy One, they will teach you Hip Hop. Thanks - SameStruggle (talk) 23:04, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
Just because something is meaningless FOR YOU, doesnt give you the authority to go around messing with other people. I have valid references for the Super Hip Hopper thing and you cannot prove it wrong anywhere in the world because its in the news. Never come back to my article again I have master editors watching my page. SameStruggle (talk) 23:39, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

- Gareth, given your failure to respond to the above issues—in particular, you were required to provide a quid pro quo review (i.e., review another DYK nomination) as part of the requirement for your own review to pass DYK, the nomination has been marked as having failed to pass. If you respond there before the rejection is processed, it still may be possible for your nomination to pass, but without any response, it will be closed. ACRI speedy deletion
PierreYvesLouis user answered to the speedy deletion of ACRI series of conferences :
This page should not be speedily deleted because... If you want, you can delete the link to the specific 2012 ACRI conference. But like the Saint Flour Ecole de probabilités is mentioned here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint-Flour,_Cantal I wanted to link to the series of ACRI conferences just to explain the acronym. May be it is better to link to the Proceeding of these conferences published in Lecture notes in computer science, Springer, like vol 6350, vol 7495, vol 5191... — Preceding unsigned comment added by PierreYvesLouis (talk • contribs) 16:23, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

RE: Speedy Deletion of Frederick Kantor
Hey you should check the TALK pages of pages you decide to nominate for deletion. How about a little help or adding it to a page where others can see it and work on it! (i.e. the articles that need work page). I don't know where that page is anymore, but I'm sure you do as an admin. Please help wikipedia out by adding content not destroying content. Thanks! Mar2194 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 01:43, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
- Great. Please add content to articles before you create them in future. Gareth E Kegg (talk) 01:50, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
Fuck it I don't have time for this wikipedia shit right now, I have a real life to attend to at the moment. Someone should create the Frederick Kantor article though that has time. Maybe if you have enough free time to add speedy deletion tags you could do the following: 1. google "Frederick W. Kantor" 2. Read the treatise on "Information Mechanics" 3. Read the wikipedia page on "Digital Physics" 4. Note the part of that article where he is attributed as the FOUNDER of DIGITAL PHYSICS. 5. Do some more research and fill out the article. If you can't do it, I can return to it at some later point in time. Mar2194 (talk)
Oh, and I would consider Frederick Kantor to be a "forgotten thing" so maybe this article will be right up your alley! Mar2194 (talk)
- I don't consider him forgotten at all. Like you I don't have time to write articles from scratch that others have created with no content. I would caution you against edits like this [2] in the future. Wikipedia is not a breaking news source, and all information should be reliably sourced. Gareth E Kegg (talk) 02:20, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
I received an email from the Dean of the Columbia... how much more reliable can you get? Stop trolling my edits if you "don't have time" Mar2194 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 18:43, 25 December 2012 (UTC)
And there was nothing in that edit that would be considered untrue or questionable. There was a NY-times op-ed (cited elsewhere in the article) about the letter of no confidence signed by 80% of faculty or some shit. I don't understand how you don't have time to make edits on an article yet you have time to go through my old edits and TROLL and CRITIQUE without really knowing what you're talking about. Merry Christmas. Mar2194 (talk)
Declined speedy deletion
I have declined your speedy deletion request on Kenosha County (comic strip). Since the article is about a creative work, it doesn't fall under WP:CSD#A7, which is only for people, organizations, animals, or web content. However, it may well be non-notable; if you check for sources and don't find any, feel free to prod or take it to AfD. Qwyrxian (talk) 10:14, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

Carl Sandburg mistake
Actually, I was creating Categories for the new Carl Sandburg template, and left out the word "Category". That page is to be speedily deleted. Sorry. Choor monster (talk) 18:24, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
- Cool. I've made a few of those in my time. There is SO much categorisation work to do on books. I recently started adding autobiographer cats to BLP's, I'll prob be doing it for the rest of my life :) Gareth E Kegg (talk) 18:27, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
- So do I consider the redirect a fix, or do I request speedy deletion? Choor monster (talk) 19:21, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

DYK for Howell Conant
On 7 January 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Howell Conant, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that photographer Howell Conant considered Grace Kelly's jaw her only flaw, and hid it with a dog or baby? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Howell Conant. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Minor edits
Thank you for your contributions. Please remember to mark your edits as "minor" only if they truly are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. --John (talk) 19:39, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Worthless people live only to eat and drink; people of worth eat and drink only to live.
Hey Gareth, I really miss that old drinking article a lot. Wiki got a lot less fun for me when it bit the dust. Some people have no sense of humor. But I do like to think of all those famous drinkers out there, with nobody to remember them. I lift a glass to you, and Oliver Reed... thanks for the tip about Evander Berry Wall, a man I never heard of but will now admire. Cheers!

You have created one or more sub-categories in this scheme which I have nominated for deletion here. This nomination is only on the grounds that there is no corresponding article for the lyricist. If an editor can create a suitable article then there is no reason why the category(ies) should be deleted. Cheers. --Richhoncho (talk) 19:43, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 February newsletter
Round 1 is now over. The top 64 scorers have progressed to round 2, where they have been randomly split into eight pools of eight. At the end of April, the top two from each pool, as well as the 16 highest scorers from those remaining, will progress to round 3. Commiserations to those eliminated; if you're interested in still being involved in the WikiCup, able and willing reviewers will always be needed, and if you're interested in getting involved with other collaborative projects, take a look at the WikiWomen's Month discussed below.
Round 1 saw 21 competitors with over 100 points, which is fantastic; that suggests that this year's competition is going to be highly competative. Our lower scores indicate this, too: A score of 19 was required to reach round 2, which was significantly higher than the 11 points required in 2012 and 8 points required in 2011. The score needed to reach round 3 will be higher, and may depend on pool groupings. In 2011, 41 points secured a round 3 place, while in 2012, 65 was needed. Our top three scorers in round 1 were:
- Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), primarily for an array of warship GAs.
- Miyagawa (submissions), primarily for an array of did you knows and good articles, some of which were awarded bonus points.
- Casliber (submissions), due in no small part to Canis Minor, a featured article awarded a total of 340 points. A joint submission with Keilana (submissions), this is the highest scoring single article yet submitted in this year's competition.
Other contributors of note include:
- Sven Manguard (submissions), whose Portal:Massachusetts is the first featured portal this year. The featured portal process is one of the less well-known featured processes, and featured portals have traditionally had little impact on WikiCup scores.
- Sasata (submissions), whose Mycena aurantiomarginata was the first featured article this year.
- Muboshgu (submissions) and Wizardman (submissions), who both claimed points for articles in the Major League Baseball tie-breakers topic, the first topic points in the competition.
- Toa Nidhiki05 (submissions), who claimed for the first full good topic with the Casting Crowns studio albums topic.
Featured topics have still played no part in this year's competition, but once again, a curious contribution has been offered by The C of E (submissions): did you know that there is a Shit Brook in Shropshire? With April Fools' Day during the next round, there will probably be a good chance of more unusual articles...
March sees the WikiWomen's History Month, a series of collaborative efforts to aid the women's history WikiProject to coincide with Women's History Month and International Women's Day. A number of WikiCup participants have already started to take part. The project has a to-do list of articles needing work on the topic of women's history. Those interested in helping out with the project can find articles in need of attention there, or, alternatively, add articles to the list. Those interested in collaborating on articles on women's history are also welcome to use the WikiCup talk page to find others willing to lend a helping hand. Another collaboration currently running is an an effort from WikiCup participants to coordinate a number of Easter-themed did you know articles. Contributions are welcome!
A few final administrative issues. From now on, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. See your submissions' page for details. This will hopefully make updating submission pages a little less tedious. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Membership report
The parent Christianity WikiProject currently has 357 active members. We would like to welcome our newest members, Thomas Cranmer, Mr.Oglesby, and Sneha Priscilla. Thank you all for your interest in this effort. We would be able to achieve nothing here without the input of all of you. If any members, new or not, wish any assistance, they should feel free to leave a message at the Christianity noticeboard or with me or other individual editors to request it.
From the Editor
We apologise for the hiatus in the publication of this newsletter due to unforseen circumstances leading to the wikibreak of John Carter, and so I have taken over as acting editor, and have taken this opportunity to move the publication date to the start of each month as planned, to better reflect on the previous month and look ahead to the next. This issue covers the period of time from mid-January to the end of March.
Since the last issue we have seen the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI and the election of Pope Francis. This has received much coverage both in the world media and on Wikipedia. While there is still much work to do, several quality articles have been written and the editors involved are thanked for their efforts.
This month we look ahead to Easter and the celebration of God's love for mankind through the crucifixion and resurrection of his Son Jesus Christ. With that, I wish you all happy reading!
P.S. Please click here to add the new Christianity noticeboard to your watchlist to follow the latest discussions relevant to WikiProject Christianity and subprojects.

Church of the month
This image of the Church of Saint Ildefonso, Portugal by Poco a poco was recently promoted to Featured Image. Thank you and congratulations for the great image!
Contest of the month
No particular contest this month. I am however getting rather close to getting together a more or less complete set of articles relating to different areas of Christianity which can be found in recent reference sources on the broad topic of Christianity, and about various subtopics, which I hope to have finished in the next few weeks. I wonder what the rest of you might think of, maybe, making the contests of future months be basically directed at filling in the gaps of our existing coverage of topics, like those topics given significant coverage in specialized reference works which we don't yet have content on, and giving the thanks, and rewards, whatever they might be, to those who create and develop such content. I am starting a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Christianity noticeboard#Future contests, and would very much welcome any input from interested parties in how to set it up, determine winners including how many winners, etc.

Christian art
Spotlight
The Spotlight this month turns to the the Jesus work group. The scope of this project includes the life and teachings of the central figure of Christianity, Jesus Christ and aims to write about them in a non-denominational encylopædic style. Top-priority articles include Jesus, Christ, Resurrection of Jesus, and Holy Grail, whereas High-priority articles include Aramaic Language, a former FA, as well as Sermon on the Mount, Lamb of God, and Passion (Christianity). The workgroup has also published two books, covering Christ's final days and the Parables of Jesus. The workgroup has two GAs, Nativity scene, and Jesus in Islam, but unfortunately the flagship article, Jesus was delisted in 2009. It is also responsible for three WP:1.0 articles, and the WikiWork of the project is 4.56, which indicates the "average" article is between Start and C class.
By Gilderien
Calendar
This coming month (end-March through end-April) includes Easter Sunday in Western Christianity and both Lazarus Saturday and Palm Sunday for the Eastern Orthodox Church. Other major feasts in the next month include those of Saint George, Saint Mark the Evangelist, Saint Stanislaus, James, son of Zebedee, and Benedict the Moor.
Help requests
Please let us know if there are any particular areas, either individual articles or topics, which you believe would benefit from outside help from a variety of other editors. We will try to include such requests in future issues.

Uh, I don't know if you know by now, but this category, which you created last fall in what seems to be an apparently well-intended housekeeping effort, has now become the subject of a cultural brouhaha over here in the US (you can see the links at the CfD that was started. I can easily imagine all the other ones in Category:Women novelists by nationality becoming part of this as well, as indeed some people at the CfD are calling for a procedural close to reopen with all of them up for discussion.
Bearcat's comment, as the original writer of the guidelines page that addresses this issue, with a subsection for gender in particular, is especially pertinent.
Please try to be mindful of these issues in the future when doing this sort of thing. Thank you. Daniel Case (talk) 18:52, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
Gareth, you wrote "I do wish I had a right of reply to Amanda Filipacchi's NYT article." at said discussion page. You actually can reply her! BREVAN HOWARD PAGE - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brevan_howard
Dear Mr. Kegg,
My name is Anthony Payne of Peregrine Communications, we represent Brevan Howard in a public relations capacity.
I’m contacting you with regard to one of your edits on the Brevan Howard page where you added information on LIBOR and sourced the Daily Telegraph’s piece entitled: Former RBS trader Tan Chi Min claims hedge fund asked UK bank to change Libor.
New information published in Bloomberg and Business Insider (http://www.businessinsider.com/brevan-howard-calls-rbs-on-libor-moves-2012-12) shows that Brevan Howard’s phone call to RBS was not a request to change the rate of LIBOR – they wanted to know why the rate jumped, even after the Fed had announced unprecedented steps to boost liquidity at the end of the week, something that should have lowered the measure.
Read more: http://www.businessinsider.com/brevan-howard-calls-rbs-on-libor-moves-2012-12#ixzz2RZhmksxJa challenge in why the rate had jumped. (As a rates house it is 100% routine for BH to ask counterparties on a regular basis where they think rates are headed).
Your entry (and your sources) gives the polar opposite impression of what is actually alleged by Tan in his unfair dismissal suit against RBS.
What Tan was actually alleging was that the way his senior management reacted to Brevan Howard asking for a call to explain the movement of rates showed that they (RBS senior management)knew what was going on at RBS, and to therefore dismiss Tan for wrongdoing was therefore unfair.
Bloomberg’s initial headline and their earlier sources were based on snippets of information in the Singapore court filing – none of which is available to the public as these proceeding are still ‘sealed’ -- in fact even the later Bloomberg information was based on a reporter seeing the sealed pleadings and making notes of them.
Your edit is extremely damaging to Brevan Howard’s reputation and is also completely incorrect, and as a result I would urge you to correct it as soon as possible.
