Speedy deletion nomination of Brooks City-Base
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Brooks City-Base requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.brookscity-base.com/about-brooks-city-base/history/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. —Anne Delong (talk) 14:35, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Quack quack?
Hi! You blocked User:ACWMeas earlier today. Would you be kind enough to look at the first three edits of User:Surveyor792? Perhaps not entirely a coincidence that they are all reverts of ACWMeas edits that I undid? Thank you, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:55, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
Hi, long time reader. Not a big fan of your vandalism to the pages and articles I read. If you have a personal bias to these articles perhaps you shouldn't be making mass edits to them.Surveyor792 (talk) 22:01, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Obamacare
I saw your note on my page. I think threatening me with a block is unwarranted. My intent is not to be disruptive. I am working toward adding factual content based on reliable sources. Whether you agree or not, there are some who compare Obamacare to Hitler's T4 policy. Go online; and you will see the conversations in that regard. I understand that it's not a Wikipedia article's place to validate or support that belief; but I do want to report on the fact that that discourse is out there.
Just to give you a heads up, I will be trying to restore my work. In the meantime, however, I will try to find a better source than the discussion board/blog I was citing earlier. If you do see my continued edits, please note I am up for discussion about the topic.
Thanks in advance for your understanding and best regards, Poet of Freedom (talk) 02:56, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
- Wikipedia's strong commitment to a neutral point of view does not in any way obligate us to give credence or undue publicity to every wackjob crackpot theory you can find on the net; see WP:FRINGE. No reliably sane conservative, leftist or libertarian sources can be found to back up the kind of nutbar content you are adding to articles here. --Orange Mike | Talk 12:38, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

Hello
Please let's stay civil. I don't think it's anyone's place here to call opinions with which one disagrees "nutbar" or "craptastic." A lot of people have strong objections to Obamacare. That is a fact; and we need to compose well-written, straightfoward content regarding that discourse. Poet of Freedom (talk) 22:52, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
- But that was not about "strong objections to Obamacare"; that was about the wackjobs and their cries of "death panels" and comparisons to Hitler. Such things are craptastic nutbar ideas, and there is nothing in WP:NPOV requiring us to pretend otherwise; again, see WP:FRINGE. --Orange Mike | Talk 12:14, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
It's alright about COI claim. But I actually created the article from scratch on 3 August 2013 when it had no content whatsoever. When I opened the brand new page, I was not aware of any contributions by User:MediaNanny020. Was this at an earlier date to 3 August 2013. In any case, the entire text is mine as I was not aware of any earlier edits, if any. You can verify the the logs here: [1]. In any case, I am not offended. Fascism
The definition of fascism is out of keeping with existing norms in encyclopedias.
It is always defined as "rightwing."
It is also not a form of nationalism. Even the two citations justifying defining it as "nationalism" do not say that. They say it espouses nationalism. Very different from essentially being nationalism (and nothing else).
All existing encyclopedias define it as "rightwing political movement that was authoritarian, nationalist, xenophobic, etc."
The idea of nationalism can be retained but the essence of fascism is something else--a rightwing political movement that used state terror to impose rightwing values on a community.

- Fascist movements did not wait until they had control of the State to impose their values on a community. That said: this discussion should be taking place at Talk:Fascism, not here on my talk page. --Orange Mike | Talk 12:20, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Orangemike! I saw that you reverted Baba Rampuri to a better version, but wasn't clear which version that was. It presumably did not escape your notice that the material added in large chunks by User:Sreekanth90 was lifted verbatim from here. Sheldon Chumir article
Thanks for your advice Orange Mike. I tried to nutrealize the article as you suggested. I agree, it was a bit flowerly. This was caused by probably two things. 1)Sheldon Chumir died in early 90's, as such most of his material are point form fragments that people he has worked with remember fondly. (a better source would be the data of his work with the 10 years he was an MLA), 2) He died with lol internet coverage, or no internet coverage. In this day and age of hash tags and tweets politicians can post. Chumir's work was lost to the sands of post internet politics (meaning. I'm going to have to march down to the Glenbow museum and manually scan these and file them over to the UofC, or something). I could barely find anything on him despite his work. I datamine this information and write descriptively with facts as per the scientific method, and let the reader make up his own mind. This was probably the reason why the orginal author of the article wrote a very non-descriptive article, because he had very little facts (only 3 sources), to go with. (because that's all that exists again... until we dive into that mountain of paperwork. The archieves were only since released in 2003. so this is the problem. Most news articles from wayyyy back machine don't exist anymore, and this is a sad fact of archaeology we lose our artifacts and data to the sands of time. Dust in the wind :_C Tears in the rain... As well, Calgary at the time was a small cities, he lived a remarkable life, but it was short. Thus he gets no grand memorial like say Martin Luthur King a fellow civil rights fighter.
So please understand we're trying to do the best we can with what little we have. (again until someone is brave enough to look the data up). But this man was remarkable, as was ANYONE who advocated to make the world a better place. He spoke about AIDs, when it was emerging, he spoke for the homeless, founded the civil liberties, and his foundation provides free care for the mentally ill. He was very active for ALL human rights. Certainly as the archives open up then we can scientifically express how significant he was. But thanks for your and future editors patience with this and other Canadian politican's pages.
Anyhow, can you please take a look at the page and let me know what you think now. Again it's under construction.... more data will flow in, as I make a more detailed search, and eventually soon the neutrality will be neutralized.... Thanks in advance. Help with Rambus article
Hello Orangemike and others.
An employee of Rambus is attempting to heavily rewrite the article on the company "Rambus", changing the introduction to heavily favor the company. Although you had banned the account "Rambus Marketing", the banned account requested to be renamed to circumvent the ban. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:RambusMarketing
The timing of the massive edits also coincides with a large bond offering for the company. Any help is appreciated with (what I believe) to be abuse of Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Steve348 (talk • contribs) 13:12, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- I note that there is an entire paragraph of criticisms regarding patent trolling where Rambus is not even mentioned in the source and the Lawsuits section starts with four paragraphs of unsourced contentious material. Using Wikipedia to promote ones personal views can also be abusive and if an editor has a relationship with the company, such as working for one of the company's Rambus has sued, this is also a COI. In any case, if Rambus is still their client, I know the PR agency that supports them. I'm emailing their CEO now to suggest they tell their client to knock it off. Please, let me ask you a question
I was reading St. Patrick's Day Article and I hit on this picture with and a sign that read: Everyone is Irish on March 17th. Does it have a particular meaning or just promotion? Sorry the bother. Miss Bono [zootalk] 20:09, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- While the sign is on a Guiness warehouse and Guiness certainly prospers from St. Patrick's Day as celebrated in the U.S. and Canada in particular, the motto (or one like it) is widespread wherever those of us of the Irish diaspora are thick upon the ground. Note that the sign with the sentence has no ™ or ® mark upon it, meaning they don't claim the sentiment or its manner of expression is original with them. At its worst, of course, this kind of thing leads to Plastic Paddy syndrome. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:41, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Bearing in mind good faith, I'm not sure your characterization of "Notable people from Austria include Adolf Hitler; notable people from Wisconsin include Jeffrey Dahmer, Ed Gein and Scott Walker; notable people from Cambodia include Pol Pot." was appropriate. Especially when you take into account the question posed, and the fact that all but one of those people are serial killers, mass murderers, or other persons of that type. I personally think it's on the verge of straying afoul of WP:BLP policy. If these were completely random, my apologies, likewise if they were from a random list I couldn't find. He didn't say he was a WP admin--he just said he was an admin of the Scholarship Program, which is a frank admission of COI. If you want to edit what you said on my talk p, just do so. DGG ( talk ) 22:22, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
- Look more closely: he explicitly said, "I am an administrator of "Schulich Leader Scholarships" and a 'newbie' Wikipedia page administrator" (emphasis added). I think he has us confused with the various social media, where you control what is said about you. --Orange Mike | Talk 22:34, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
- you're right, he said that--but I'm not sure he intended it in the sense you use, meaning rather that he is the administrator in the program responsible for getting them a WP page. At worst, he's confused the roles of author /editor and administrator. Since we call contributors "editors" not "authors" , which is a highly unusual way to use the word "editor", it is not unprecedented that he expects someone called an editor to be in charge of the material. That would be the case almost everywhere else in the world. we perhaps have ourselves at least partially to blame for using our own version of English. I try to avoid the word "editor" in talking to a newbie. DGG ( talk ) 00:39, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
- Mayhap. I deal with a stunning number of noobs who think they can control the article, image and/or presentation of their organization, company, musician, lover, client, whatever; so maybe I'm more sensitive to the possibility that we're facing that delusion again. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:42, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

- Not done and will not be done The article was not deleted for lack of references and citations, but rather because the subject does not meet our standards of notability for an encyclopedia article. Additionally, it was written in a fulsome and smarmy manner that failed our requirements of neutrality and our prohibition on promotional editing. Bluntly, it read as if it were written by a press agent, or perhaps a doting mother with a business background. It was full of petty awards and trivial achievements, with nothing of substance to tell us that this person was ever actually notable in any way on a planet of six billion people (many of them good people who will never merit encyclopedia articls about them). --Orange Mike | Talk 14:14, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Requesting More Help on Article
I created the article Criss Jami and want input from another experienced user on what the article needs. User Tedickey https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Tedickey seems to bully my edits. First he added (arguably) necessary tags, but when I tried to fix the article according to those tags he restored those and added more which I can verify are false. The article needs a 3rd opinion. If it's that poor of an article then I do request deletion. Ahnold T (talk) 18:38, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

Bluford Series Deletion
I appreciate hearing criteria for impartiality, but there is a gray area here. These words HAVE been said by "objective" parties such as the ALA (American Library Association) and the Journal for Adolescent and Adult Literacy (JAAL), and the books have sold over 9 million copies, so there is something to the idea that they are popular! Links to these authorities were in the deleted page. I can edit to address your concerns, but what was on that page is what others--not me--have been saying.
Also, the content of those pages took a while to compile and does not exist anywhere else except on Wikipedia. While I certainly can edit to add reference and more objective or third party language, I would like to get back the content as a baseline from which to start editing. Is that possible?

help on deleted page "B-Open"
Hi Orangemike, i hope you are ok, yesterday i posted my first wikipedia page related to the company i work. my purpose is not to promote my company, rather to promote the greek software market (as you know, we are in middle of a crisis in the country and we really try hard to become more extrovert and competitive and to meet global standards). could you please assist me on selecting a better approach on the article, so it will not violate wikipedia's guidelines? would it be a solution if i add a sentence for competitors in the greek market? many thanks in advance for your time on this, kind regards, Dimitrios
istoidea (talk) 09:44, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
- The problem is that you are the worst possible person to write about your own company (with the obvious exception of a marketing/PR person, with that trade's toxic aversion to dispassionate and impartial description). Additionally, in addition to the natural bias in favor of your own company, you admit yourself that you wish "to promote the greek software market"; and promotion of anything is contrary to what we are trying to do here. --Orange Mike | Talk 14:50, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
- Unfortunately in this capitalistic world, the meaning of beautiful words, such as "promotion", has been confined and deprived. I firmly believe wikipedia is a major mean for promotion; promotion of knowledge that is. Terribly sorry for the trouble created, i will try to write a different article, hopefully, more aligned to wikipedia standards. --Istoidea (talk) 08:15, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

Member being harassed
Hi Mike, I hope to find you well. We have never gotten an opportunity to meet, and I am sure we would be able to speak under great terms. I write because you made an interesting comment that I would like to discuss with you, and shed a few things to light. You said that I should only comment on content and not on contributors. To let you know, I am a very peaceful person, and I am only interested in exploration of knowledge. However, there is an individual that is stalking and harassing me for the past few days. This person is following me on Wikipedia everywhere I go like a fanboy, commenting on everything I do, reverting any contributions I make, and simply being disruptive. I wasn't trying to be out of line with the forum, as I am very amicable. But I think, you or anyone would be equally disturbed that there is an individual who is seeking to undermined all you do with conviction, and respond to things that you have not asked this person for. I have repeatedly told this individual to stay away from me and that I don't request his communication. Still, the person persists. This is out of line. This very person was the one who was also at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, hence my response. I know you are filled with things to do, but I would appreciate that you can assist me with this matter. I don't care for insignificant online debates that have no real life bearing on things that really matter. However, this person is obstructing me from making any contributions and creating an unfriendly environment which goes against the site. I bet that he will even come here to comment, because he is obsessed with my history log. If he doesn't then, he read my last statement. Either way it doesn't matter. I hope you can help in a constructive manner and have this person simply stay away from me. Thank you, and peace NYCWikiKid (talk) 15:50, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

Change username for User:Tailoredcreditsolutions?
Hey, the user Tailoredcreditsolutions is asking for a name change to User:vickijgough. I normally don't sympathize with people that I think have a COI, but I think that her edits are in good enough faith. Her AfC didn't point people in the direction of her company and while it obviously wasn't ready for the mainspace, it did seem like she was trying to create a viable article. She also tried to tone down the editing on her userpage as well after it was marked with a speedy, so I think it'd be worthwhile to give her one last chance. I'd change her name myself, except that I don't really know how. I think I've seen you do it, so I thought I'd ask if you wanted to give her a go. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:04, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi-I did some research about Peter H. Engle. Apparently he was born in Pennsylvania in 1808 and died in St. Louis, Missouri in 1844. I got that information from some genealogical information. Okay I checked the Iowa General Assembly's website database on Iowa Past and Present Legislators and the Missouri Secretary of State's website database of Missouri Past and Present Legislators about the possibility of Peter H. Engle serving in the Iowa and Missouri Legislatures; no information came up that he served in either legislature. I hope this helps. Best wishes-RFD (talk) 11:42, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

"Species in Defiance" deletion
I request that you undo the deletion for "Species in Defiance" - the page needed an overhaul due to Original Research/Synthesis concerns, but due to events beyond my control I was Away from Wiki for a few weeks (semester started up) and unable to work on it.
Did it fail a Notability test?
As for the citation issues, we'd removed most of the Facebook/Tumblr posts, and the plan was to ask some of the production staff to repost the needed info in a blog (they have been fairly interactive with taking fan Q&A) so we were in the process of removing the Facebook/Tumblr stuff.
Separately, I am baffled at why a Youtube citation is inappropriate....when it was the official Youtube channel of the TV series, was a publicly released promotional video, and featured appearances by the writers and development team themselves.
I am also confused why you said that Facebook/Tumblr/Youtube sources were "at best" primary sources, I don't know what the rules on that are.
At any rate, we were getting rid of the Facebook/Tumblr stuff, and I don't know why an officially released YouTube video is not a good citation.
The Original Research/Synthesis was another problem entirely. Yes, there were some concerns on this; but I repeatedly asked that...those criticizing these elements in the article, those complaining about Original Research, point out or list exactly what was Original Research and what was not. Indeed, without a list, have any actually proven that the level or amount of Original Research was so great as to warrant deletion? It needs some refinement, but refinement can't take place if it's deleted.
I've been away from wiki for nearly a month, I knew there was a deletion discussion, but events were beyond my control. If the article is undeleted.
If nothing else, as mentioned on the deletion page, some felt that it would be better to shift it to a sub-wiki on Defiance; in which case I wasn't able to save a backup copy and need brief access to the original so I can transwiki it. Thank you.--Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici (talk) 15:29, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

How to Work on Twelve Tribes article
Hello OrangeMike- I saw you were a major editor offering help, and that you had made an edit to the Twelve Tribes. I've been very open for years that I am a member, but I would like to help work on the article here, according to the Wikipedia guidelines. I wonder if you would be willing to help me, regulate the changes, etc. I believe I can help find verifiable sources that actually portray what we believe and do.
The topics that I believe are often most misunderstood, especially by the media, are: 1. Races 2. "anti-semitism" 3. child discipline 4. authority structure 5. diet and lifestyle
I noticed that TheResidentAnthropologist is retired now. There was also weaponbb7 that did alot of work on our site. I don't know if he is around, but I thought he they might be same. Thale film article edit conflict
Hello, can you please take a look at an issue with the article for the film Thale? Here is the article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thale_(film)
Another editor keeps reverting edits and making false accusations of vandalism saying that a listing of user ratings on IMDb and user ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and a Wordpress blog are reliable sources, when they are not. Blogs and IMDb are not reliable sources.
The section that keeps being reverted where the Wordpress blog is supposedly listed as a reliable source is this:
Specialist review site NordicFantasy praised the uniqueness of the film and said it "manages to seamlessly blend a crime mystery with a triller in a fantasy wrapping. Thale does things that fantasy movies almost never do." [1]
I suspect, though I could be wrong, that this Wordpress blog belongs to the editor who keeps reverting these edits.
The section that also keeps being added back about Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb user ratings is this:
Rottentomatoes is less positive. Six out of 11 critics gave the movie a positive review (55% on the 'Tomatometer'). The audience on that website was even less positive; the movie has a 31% approval rating based on 1258 user ratings. IMDB rates the movie unfavorably as well, with a score of 5,4/10 based on votes from 2264 users.
Please correct me if I am wrong if these are in fact reliable sources, since it seems to me they are clearly not going by Wikipedia.
If you could help settle this issue I would greatly appreciate it, thanks.Neptune's Trident (talk) 22:12, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
Democratic Party, Progressive Alliance
Maybe there's something wrong with the reference link, but in the Progressive Alliance's website, it has a list of "expected participants" and the United States Democratic Party is listed. I don't know if it's a language barrier thing, or just a lack of understanding of how Wikipedia works, or a very...distinct...worldview, or some combination thereof, but he's heading for a plain WP:CIR block under the new account.
- He doesn't seem to grasp how to participate in talk page discussions; I tried to engage with him at User talk:Kiwanis2015#Brending, but it was just getting too bizarre and too badly mangled. He also seems not to get the distinction between article (and user) pages and their corresponding talk pages. His edit summaries are rather curious. His attempted content edits are generally problematic; this one from yesterday illustrates the issue. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 20:37, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
Admin question, I think
Hi. I noticed this userpage: User:North8000. Please can you either answer my questions on my talk page, or would you or another Admin. have a look if any action is required. I thought that very few editors could maintain more than one username and account not run by a bot. Even if someone adopts a new username should they not sign their own work?! I know there are some exceptions, but for the apparent "primary editor/mentor," why wouldn't the "original" at least place both usernames on both of his (hers?, their?) user or talk pages? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 23:43, 23 September 2013 (UTC)
- My appreciation for your time. Whenever choosing to attempt something new or more advanced, I suppose the difference between he and I is that I try to be very cautious. Unfortunately for you more experienced folks is that you end up getting bothered by the rest of us, no matter how years we have been doing this work. Hope I don't lean on your assistance too much! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 17:08, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

- Not lurking.....the new system gave me a notice that they were talking about me here. Curious why you would strongly recommend against having a new editor starting up "under my wing" having a user name similar to mine. I was viewing it as a public indicator of such, including "shouting from the rooftops" full disclosure that they may be someone who is somewhat influence-able by me. Sort of a moot point because their only posts have been a couple on their own user page (so far have never really got started as an editor) but I was curious......it's easily changeable if it looks like a good idea to do so. Thanks. Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 01:07, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

- Thanks! If they are going to "start up"/become active, I'll recommend that they take a new user name. North8000 (talk) 13:58, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks to OM for clearing up the reason! I wouldn't make a flat-out sock-puppet accusation until I ask a trustworthy editor/Admin. first. Then, if something is awry, let the trustworthy designee Admin. take it from there. I met Mike the only other time I had a confrontation with someone I'd met decades before, and no longer speak of him. Best to try to be kind and "nip it in the bud" if problems do exist. Mike was very helpful- it's how we met. Whenever I ask for his help, he never fails to disappoint!

- Back to begging for help! I recently uploaded photos but didn't notice the watermarks on them in advance. They include nearly all band photos for Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and most of the photos on each of the four members' individual articles. Would someone help, or does anyone know who can remove some watermarks from some top-grade photos I placed on their articles?! Pretty please, since I don't know how to do it and some issues have arisen with my health? Any volunteers? I promise I'd make up the favor somehow! Thanks. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 23

Yet another issue needing Admin help..
Howdy. I have two problems for you.. the first has to do with watermarks on photos (I hope). Lately I haven't been too well, and maybe that's the reason I have not scrutinized the photos I upload as often as before, or maybe because I've uploaded more than about 2,000 photos separately... Almost every photo on the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young band article, as well as the articles for each member of that group have watermarks that need to be removed. Can you, or do you know of an individual editor who can removed the watermarks? It is embarrassing that I don't know how to do so, and am sick, and know nothing of computers!
- Worse, I uploaded both photos of Brian Robertson, which also both have watermarks needing removal. Worse than that, in looking at that article history, I found a user who used an IP address and who left a message that they "quit" after being under-appreciated. One answer on the talk page, also using an IP address discussed what a shame it was and extolled his virtues. Then another IP address pops up, etc. All use one or two sentences tops, and it appears to be a series of the same person. I lost the thread, and must get back into bed to avoid another hospital stay, but should I find it, I hope you are a proper person with whom to report it. Please, if you know someone to remove the watermarks on the photos listed, I'd really appreciate that!! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 07:22, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not a big graphics person, so cannot help much with the watermarks. As to the other: silly natter on talk pages, unless it becomes destructive or leads to violations of WP:BLP or WP:NPA, is generally best ignored. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:18, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
- (stalking) As long as the licence is a compatible one with ours, anyone is free to crop the watermark out and upload a new version without needing to ask the uploader. The only conditions are you continue to give them credit, but the file's history does that for you. However, Robbo lives near a friend of mine and has been known to turn up to jam nights, so she might actually have some photos of him. I'll see what I can do. Question about edits
I noticed on the Kokomo, Indiana page you removed several listings under the festival subsection due to them being "non notable". What is your definition of a "Notable Festival"? Any reply would be appreciated so that we may improve the Kokomo article. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jcmiller1215 (talk • contribs) 15:23, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
I agree with you about the fact that many festivals while notable to local residents are not really well known. My question is more about who decides what is notable. Having lived in Kokomo for 33 years I can atest that The Howard County 4-H fair is more notable than Koko Mah. Why leave one and not the other. Who sets the criteria for what is notable? Thank you.Jcmiller1215-"tomorrow we will run faster..." (talk) 15:41, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
- As I said, I was uncertain about Koko Mah so left it, because it seemed more distinctive; another editor has purged it as well. I've got country roots: I understand that every town of Kokomo's size has 4-H exhibitions; but frankly they are not distinctive in any way, however much folks may look forward to them locally. The Dane County county fair does not make Madison distinctive; Wiscon, by contrast, has a global reputation, and does make Madison stand out culturally. Our general criteria for notability are at WP:N. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:52, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
Fair enough explanation. Given the excellant link on notability I think that the entire article needs cleaned up. I will start soon. Thanks for the reply and info. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jcmiller1215 (talk • contribs) 16:15, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

Please comment on Talk:Ronan_Farrow#RfC_Ethiopia
Hi - I was wondering if you wouldn't mind participating in this RfC on Ronan Farrow? It has become, surprisingly and inexplicably, heated and I am afraid that - given the low priority of the article - no one is likely to participate in the RfC other than the two affected editors (myself being one) and our own discussion is quickly veering toward the edge of incivility. One of the two of us needs a reality check and it very well may be me; this is a discussion on a run-on sentence correction that has oddly devolved into some very weighty accusations being passed around on the basis of which I am open to the idea, as the more junior editor involved, I may have made an error in approach that inadvertently instigated it. Thanks, in advance, for your consideration. BlueSalix (talk) 02:17, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- BlueSalixuser is canvassing and I hope you'll take that into consideration, along with his giving a one-side, non-neutral notice. Thanks. --Tenebrae (talk) 04:44, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- I apologize if I did something erroneous. Prior to posting this note to user:Orangemike, I made an inquiry regarding an outstanding issue regarding the same article to user:Mark Arsten - as he had previously been involved in that issue (a Sockpuppet case I had initiated and he had served as the blocking admin on). I did not ask him to comment on the RfC in question, however - my post to his Talk page was a technical request only. I did not notify anyone else that a RfC existed other than Mark and Mike and I really did not know notifying two admins otherwise unknown to me on two separate issues regarding the same page constituted canvassing. I was under the impression canvassing consisted of rallying support for a specific position among people you know are likely to support your position. I apologize profusely.
- However, on the question of the neutrality of my RfC notice, I stand behind it as a neutral summary of facts and I believe a review of it will confirm this.BlueSalix (talk) 05:23, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- To BlueSalix: A neutral notice says along the lines of, "As an editor who has edited the page Ronan Farrow, you may wish to view an RfC on its talk page." Period. Anything else is an attempt to sway someone. Why else would one say more than that?
- I apologize to Orangemike for my part in this discussion. BlueSalix should not have brought our argument here in the first place.--Tenebrae (talk) 05:31, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- Tenebrae - I apologize, I thought you were referring to my RfC OP, not the notice here. I agree my notice on OrangeMike's Talk probably isn't neutral - I think it gives you the benefit of the doubt, which I'm happy to do given your seniority. If that peace offering was offensive, please accept my sincere apology. BlueSalix (talk) 05:39, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Locked out of my account
I'm not entirely sure who to speak to about this... back in the day, I was a frequent editor both here and on Wikiquote who went by the handle Jc-S0CO. I never tied my username to my email address, unfortunately. I started editing less and less frequently, but whenever I popped in, I could always log in because my password was remembered by my computer. I must have cleared my cookies at some point, because now it isn't there when I go to log in. I don't suppose you'd know how I could recover my account (both here and Wikiquote)? I can provide an email address if need be. 76.84.23.7 (talk) 02:05, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- Sadly, if you did not tie your username to your e-mail address, there's nothing anybody can do to recover it. That's a design feature, not a bug, intended to respect our editors' privacy. --Orange Mike | Talk 12:38, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
Edit-warring with PR rep
Hi Orange. User:Drmies recently asked me to take a look at an AfC on Harold Brierley, written by a PR rep from Ogilvy. The article had previously been deleted as unambiguous advertising and the AfC relied mostly on primary sources, brief mentions, and sources that did not actually say what they were cited for, but with Drmies help, they were able to dig up enough sources for a very short article (I think). I did a lot of cleanup of the low-quality sources and am now edit-warring with the PR rep, user:TylerHayleyOgilvyOne. I don't think you can actually block a disclosed rep for merely edit-warring, or maybe you can, and I haven't had time to look through the edits in-detail, but was wondering if you could help do... something about it. Maybe article protection under edit-warring would work? CorporateM (Talk) 15:36, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
- Orange, I am not a PR rep. I am making a small contribution and have been very accommodating with editing my submission per other user's suggestions. We are at a point now where I believe that any further edits ruin the integrity of the information. The information is properly cited now with solid sources. There has been a lot of clean up. Please feel free to take a look and give your opinion. I think the version I propose is fair and important to the nature of the biography. This bio has come a long way and the matter is really only over a couple of sentences that establish time, others involved and chronology. I have a right to include what falls within Wiki guidelines just as much as the next person, don't I? TylerHayleyOgilvyOne (talk) 15:44, 9 October 2013 (UTC)TylerHayleyOgilvyOne
- I haven't had a chance to look at the edits that closely. It's quite possible some are ok. If you leave a note on the Talk page, I would be happy to take a look tomorrow. Article protection would prevent the edit-warring until the changes are discussed. CorporateM (Talk) 15:52, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
- I'm somewhat in the middle here. I mostly agree with CorporateM, though I don't have much of a problem with this edit. I do believe that, given the relative paucity of in-depth discussion in reliable sources, we need to be brief. I don't wish to speak out re: edit warring (and it was Mike who was asked for advice, not me), but I think the current version (CM's) should stand, it least for now. Drmies (talk) 15:55, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, they have stopped edit-warring at least, so I can go back to working on something else until they start a proper discussion on Talk. Hey, btw, there is another PR rep from Ogilvy at User:HOgilvy who has actually been very patient regarding the article on Matthew Bryden, which currently contains a lot of contentious material using mediocre sources. Despite some mild concessions from Drmies, I felt there was mostly consensus that the article was over-politicized, editorialized and generally not fair to the article-subject.
- However, there is an editor with a strong opinion against the secession of Somoliland, which Bryden supports, who - in my opinion - is engaging in persistent counter-consensus editing that unfairly damages the article-subject's reputation. He has even gone so far as to accuse Kiethbob and myself of secretly operating an organized conspiracy funded by Bell Pottinger to whitewash the article. I don't really know what to do about it at this point, because I don't have the same time/interest as the POV pusher, who has essentially won through persistence. Curious
You recently said I was a valuable editor in my COI capacity, which caught me off-guard, since I consider you to be one of the most adamant anti-COI editors. Jimbo just said that "the practices that CorporateM is exploiting need to be addressed and are wrong" and I wasn't sure how much of that I should shrug off as you know... the usual here at Wikipedia... or if my COI participation was not as impeccable as I would like to believe. I was wondering if you had been following me in that regard and had any constructive criticism. CorporateM (Talk) 14:23, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
- btw, not asking for comments on Jimbo's page, which would just create a nice spectacle, just want to make sure I'm doing everything I can to act appropriately and thought based on your comment that you must have seen enough of my contributions to provide an assessment and perhaps some areas for improvement. Qnet NPOV and General Improvement
Hey Orangemike, thanks for posting on my talk page. I've been meaning to message you because it seems that you've been on the project for a while now. So, with Qnet, I feel like the article does not meet wp:NPOV standards. I thought that by introducing RYTHM it might balance it out, especially because there were a few secondary sources to back it up. I do still feel it deserves mention at least, if not its own section. Yes many corporations use these charities for PR, but there are dozens of wikipedia pages which have philanthropy sections, or at least charitable activities sections. But I understand that just adding sections alone won't fix the problem. So, in the name of fairness, and of creating an article that will rise above its current C-class rating, do you at least agree that the article as a whole is not-neutral? If you do agree to this, I feel like we can come to some consensus on how to make this a more readable and neutral article. Isn't that our job as editors? I think we can come up with something we both can be happy with. If not, well, I'm open to hearing your side in full. Looking forward to your thoughts. Thanks on the Sam Liccardo article deletion
I warned Mr. Liccardo and his campaign staff that Wikipedia was not to be used as a cut and paste for their campaign rhetoric. I gave them the benefit of a doubt by editing the page and leaving in the factual information concerning career employment, educational background and even political offices held. They then proceeded to cut and paste with exact formatting his policy positions as it resides on his campaign website. With that I asked for your help and you decided to delete the page. I think they had sufficient warning and felt the rules did not apply to them. Good work. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ironbob (talk • contribs) 02:23, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

Possible nomination of a wikipage for page upgrade from GA to FA
Hi Orangemike. Your user page seems to indicate a good editing background/peer review possibility in theology-religion articles. I am thinking of recommending a page upgrade for a GA article to FA article status which may involve the reading of one key book if this might be possible for you. The book is the popularly received "Evil and the God of Love." Any possible interest? AutoJellinek (talk) 14:52, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
- I'm a little too orthodox for Hick, I fear. --Orange Mike | Talk 12:35, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
Hi Orangemike, and thanks for the quick note. The GA article is presently not sufficiently on the orthodox side since two-thirds of it is on Hick and could probably stand to be trimmed or even shortened about him. There is a free twenty-page preview presently on the Hick book on Amazon if this helps. Too much on Hick in the GA article can be commented on as being too much Hick. AutoJellinek (talk) 17:11, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- 1. You never did mention what the article is that you're talking about.
- 2. I would never presume to say to a Hicksite, "Thee are not a true Friend"; but I fear they are a bit too far down a path I do not follow.
- 3. Content from Amazon is seldom if ever a reliable source. (Full disclosure: I work part-time for an independent book store, and my opinion of predators like Amazon and Wal-Mart is not printable in any respectable publication.) --Orange Mike | Talk 17:26, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
Hi Orangemike. You are quite right. The article was Irenaean theodicy. If the page looks like there is hope for the upgrade then maybe leave me a little note. AutoJellinek (talk) 20:08, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

- The original was shamelessly promotion, eligible for G11; then the author blanked it, making it eligible as A3: sole author blanked page. I deleted it with both tags for which it was eligible. --Orange Mike | Talk 16:31, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

Good cop?
Keeping in mind that in general I find User:Mysidae's participation to be valuable and don't want to discourage them, I thought you might want to play good cop at Talk:Credit_rating_agency#How_to_fix_this_article. As per usual, I have apparently made some bad edits ;-)
I think they have solicited for input elsewhere, but that doesn't necessarily always work very well, especially with such a massive wall of text. CorporateM (Talk) 01:05, 18 October 2013 (UTC)
- Greetings, Mike and CorporateM. I have acknowledged that I work for a credit rating agency, and I believe the current article is a terrible mess. "Paid advocacy" is not my interest. I have presented an alternative version of the article, and I believe it would be appropriate for me to update it as one with industry expertise and one who has done extensive scholarly research to create a proposed new draft that is much easier to read. Surprisingly, I am the one who contends a "Criticism" section belongs in this article, while CorporateM would confusingly divide this up among many headings. I do not seek to minimize criticism. In fact, it would be better for everyone if it was easy to understand what these criticisms are about. Many thanks, Mysidae (talk) 01:17, 18 October 2013 (UTC)
Deletion of Dustin V. S.'s article
Hey, you know how you deleted that article of mine? Well, I posted a reply over an hour ago, and you haven't acknowledged it. So, can you please reply on the Help Desk? Not to seem impatient... Dustin talk 19:31, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, you'll need to reply to this - specifically why this one article qualifies for A7 and not the rest of the forecast office articles, when this one is arguably the most notable of them all. Also, having been an article for a long time, never been tagged or deleted, an AfD or PROD would have been much more appropriate and polite to the creator, instead of a deletion that is clearly not uncontroversial. ~Charmlet -talk- 20:54, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion of Roger W. Jones Award for Executive Leadership
Hi OrangeMike... noticed that you did a speedy delete of Roger W. Jones Award for Executive Leadership, yet the page I saw before it was deleted, and it might have changed, did not seem to be advertising or spam? The award is the equivalent to the Fulbright Program or MacArthur Award for government senior executives in the U.S., and you wouldn't delete that from Wikipedia would you? Do you want to reconsider your action? It might be the user was a newbie who was well-intentioned but needed refining the article, not a speedy deletion? Notable winners include Richard A. Clarke and Christopher C. Kraft, Jr.... perhaps further discussion is needed on this topic? WashD101 (talk) 01:29, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
- Further thought, per [Wikipedia's Criteria for speedy deletion:G11] Note: An article about a company or a product which describes its subject from a neutral point of view does not qualify for this criterion. ...could you find anything that was not neutral in the article? The page I saw before it was deleted appeared to be just the facts? It was also the same Wikipedia style of Fulbright Program or MacArthur Award WashD101 (talk) 01:33, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
- The fulsome "His service was distinguished by his ability to lead change based on the belief that government can mobilize human talents to accomplish goals" and the reference to the winners as "distinguished" were what did it for me. Note who created and fiddled with the article. --Orange Mike | Talk 12:54, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks OrangeMike for the insight, couldn't that line have been struck instead? The MacArthur Fellowship opens with the phrase "Genius Grant" and "exceptional merit and promise for continued and enhanced creative work" as well? Awards are meant to have some element of fulsomeness. The second, the word distinguished does have meaning in the world of public service, namely the Distinguished Presidential Rank Awards https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidential_Rank_Awards#Distinguished_Executive in which even Wikipedia has a subsection on Distinguished Executives? Maybe a better part of valor would have been an AfB or PROD instead? I do agree that the user may have poorly chosen their username associated with the article, but at least they weren't being covert about their identity which they could have done instead? Assume good faith and not so savvy Wikipedia skills instead? WashD101 (talk) 13:05, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I am not sure where the most appropriate section to write this is, but since you wrote me a message under the heading November, 2013. I will place this here. You have written me a personal message saying that I should not "Please do not add commentary or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles". I have not done so. I may have in the "talk" section, but what I added in the article is factually accurate and represents the science. You have in no way addressed the merits of my edits except to continuously refer to the " our guidelines as to reliable sources on medical topics." which my additions do adher to. You suggest that I have "insert[ed] fringe or undue weight content into [an] article", but this reflects the state of the science, and is neither "fringe" or inaccurate. You continually cite decorum as the reason for your edits, but these are not valid reasons unless you can address the content. Would you please read the available literature on this topic, including these sources, before you continue to destruct and bias the page to negatively reflect the state of our knowledge? — Preceding unsigned comment added by NR biogeochemist (talk • contribs) 19:32, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for that block. I had reported this on 17 August, but the response by Daniel Case was "Not a blatant violation of the username policy. It might have had something to do with the children's game and the user might not even be aware of the corporation's existence (I wasn't until about a month ago)".

- Does this user have any connection to DuckDuckGo at all? Have they ever edited the article or even done anything remotely promotional towards it? What possible promotional benefit would "DuckDuckGo" (company) have from some quiet editor on wikipedia editing from the username "Duckduckgo". No benefit at all. No reason to drive editors off for this. Forest for the trees, it's a gorram nickname used to identify edits. –xenotalk 19:42, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
- We don't know if user Duckduckgo has a connection to DuckDuckGo. He/she won't say. I pointedly asked. In fact, Duckduckgo keeps deleting discussion on their talk page, including my explanation of the unfortunate events surrounding their good faith name change request.
- Yes, it's a "gorram" username, but it is identical to a U.S. corporation. As such, it carries obvious weight, as if the edit is coming from the corporation, to anyone who's ever heard of the corporation. It's not allowed, plain as day in WP:Usernames. We don't do that. Conjecture about possible reasons for the choice of the name, such as in the response by Daniel Case are of no use. There's no actual user named User:Jim Beam or User:Jimbeam, right? Presuming you've heard of the whiskey. --Lexein (talk) 19:58, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

Do you think Talk:Martin Luther King, Jr. could be unprotected yet? Jackmcbarn (talk) 23:42, 12 November 2013 (UTC)
Hi Mike. I'm giving some thought to unblocking this user. I declined a UTRS ticket from him purely because he'd failed to suggest a new username; now that he's done so (it still implies that he works for the company, but it meets WP:ISU) I can't see a good reason not to lift the block. There's no evidence in his edits of any promotion of the Canadian Sugar Institute, and whilst some of the edits may have been a bit problematic, they look to me like genuine attempts to improve the encyclopedia. Would you be amenable to a monitored unblock? Cheers, Yunshui 雲水 10:37, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
- My concern is not so much the name as it is the edits, which were taking the straight white-sugar-industry party line on what treatments are used on sugar to make it white and why they aren't "really" bleaching. Is he going to address that from a NPOV and COI compliant approach?--Orange Mike | Talk 15:52, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
- I realise the issue with the editing, but I think that's something that should be addressed through discussion - whilst it's easy to see it as whitewashing, from this chap's perspective he's adding more detailed explanations to the articles. If I unblock him, I reckon it might be wise to include a condition that he use proposed edits on talkpages for sugar-related pages, at least for a few months. That way he can take some time to get to grips with how Wikipedia works, whilst still contributing to his articles of interest. Yunshui 雲水 16:00, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
- Most of his edits were to support the bogus assertion that bleaching which does not use one or two specific chemicals should not be called "bleaching" (apparently because the industry finds that people don't like to be reminded that their sugar was bleached). That's not "adding more detailed explanations", that's spindoctoring and euphemization.

@ the help desk. It was about youtube. Moreso, it was about the article Samira Said which is a giant celebrity feelgood BLP mess and is being edited by User talk:Nanocoloraturo also known as "Adam, Official Representative of Samira Said" and other, what I believe to be socks, notably User talk:Operaworldmusic, User talk:192.0.137.184 and User talk:Opera2006. The article is a definite timesink that is not worth your time or mine. Been there, done that! Its the COI issue and the sockpuppets that I thought you could do something about. I live in Chgo and was looking forward to meeting you. at the recent event. Maybe someday. ```Buster Seven Talk 21:51, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

I am not sure where to report this but I have been getting potientail service disruptions on the English wikipedia and the Simple Wikipedia, the errors are as follows:

Hi Mike,
Thank-you for your kind welcome and reminding me of Wikipedia's guidelines. I realize this is a contentious issue, but it is a subject that deserves to be represented.
Do you have any particular insight in regards to the above subject?

Blogs in Ender's Game
Hi, Did you at least READ the novel? Undoubtedly, no. The book itself is the best source (you just need to read it), but you don’t even accept it! Unless Orson Scott Card himself says “I predicted blogs in 1985”, you won’t accept ANY source, will you? Or maybe do you want me to break some copyrights by copying and pasting relevant pages of the novel? — Ethaniel (talk) 11:23, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker)That's correct unless he explicitly states it we will not use it because it becomes WP:OR or WP:SYN. Inserting copyrighted works is a good way to get blocked though so I would avoid doing that. Hell In A Bucket (talk) 12:10, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
- Ethaniel, I first met Squire Orson long ago, back before Ender's Game was even published; I've read the book plus at least two of its sequels. The point is that various bloggish thingies are a standard feature of pre-Internet SF, and unless there are notable sources saying that Ender's Game was particularly prescient in describing blogs and their influence, Wikipedia is not going to do so just based on book passages. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:39, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
- Bloggish thingies may be common in SF before 1993, but what about strong influence that political bloggers (or whatever the name given by the authors) can achieve? I didn’t say that Ender's game was the first SF novel to do that (I guess some obscure writers did that long before), but those novels are pretty rare and Ender's game is by far the most notable one. So you need “notable sources” who analyzed every existing SF story in order to find who predicted first political bloggers influence? Good luck! — Ethaniel (talk) 13:49, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) What you need is a reliable source - not Card himself, despite Hell In A Bucket's comment above - which states something along the lines of, "Orson Scott Card's novel Ender's Game predicted the impact of political blogs as early as 1985." Simply looking at the book and thinking, "Hey, the whole Demosthenes/Locke thing is a lot like modern blogging," isn't sufficient; it constitutes original research. If somebody has published a claim in a suitable source that specifically says Ender's Game described blogging, then we can use it, but to make the claim based only on your personal reading of the book isn't enough for Wikipedia. Richard M. Smith redirect overwrite
Your overwrite of the Richard M. Smith redirect in September 2012 resulted some accidental inbound linking. The Newsweek, School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University, and Benjamin Drake Wright pages wound up linking to the nineteenth century representative, rather than the modern editor and journalist :-)
These incorrect links were easily fixed using the What Links Here tool, [[12]]. Also the article on Benjamin Drake Wright's work makes me wonder if Newsweek's introduction of their "Best High Schools in America" ranking perhaps was influenced by Mr. Smith's time with Dr. Wright. I was completely unaware of Dr. Wright's work and this quick fixup taught me quite a few neat things.
I also added a line and citation to Richard M. Smith's article about his service as the Chairman of the Committee on Railways in 1856.

WisCon
The "multiple issues" tag was placed on the WisCon page back in 2010. Last spring, I and several other editors (including yourself) put a lot of effort into cleaning up the page, adding appropriate data and citations, etc.. My feeling is that the "multiple issues" tag no longer applies, but I don't feel comfortable removing it on my own. Is there a process to removing it? Is that something you could do? Grafton
Mike, regarding your edit to the Grafton page, about the Nazi group... Several years ago, we agreed to remove the references from the page. We had heard from someone who was there. His parents owned the place, IIRC. He said there was no Nazi activity there. Additionally, the article you cite is not clear as to the location of the camp it refers to. Due to the sensitivity of the subject and the inconclusiveness of the historical record, editors agreed not to report these facts. An admin archived the discussion, to remove references from the public eye. -Freekee (talk) 16:30, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
- (Talk page stalker:) It seems strange to me that the information was determined to be so unimportant that it was taken out of the article entirely. It is not even present in the related article: Grafton (town), Wisconsin. Seems to me that something about German Americans owning a piece of land used casually for German-American parties and picnics, the land occasionally used by Nazis for speeches and to practice parading, should be in the article. This parcel of land once called Camp Hindenburg is just south of Grafton at a bend in the river. It has been in the news quite a few times: 1939, 1940, 1940, 1942, 1943, 1943, 1943, 1944, and 1993. Perhaps there should be an article named Camp Hindenburg just to settle the matter. Binksternet (talk) 17:48, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
- Freekee, this item is fully documented; there were approximately 80 boys and then 100 girls, singing songs of praise to the Fuehrer and learning about the glories of Naziism. If the parcel is in the Town of Grafton, instead of the Village, that's fine; but a third party denying what we have from reliable sources is not how Wikipedia works. --Orange Mike | Talk 01:49, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- What do you mean "talk page stalker"?
- I hadn't seen those links to the earlier article. All I had seen until now were a couple of articles that didn't conclusively tie the Bund to the camp. So... yes, "a third party denying what we have from reliable sources is not how Wikipedia works," but eyewitness accounts that don't disagree with the published record can help us decide how to write our articles. I see now that there's more to it.
- So the question is now, do you really feel this is important enough to add to the article? Is this newsworthy? Is this an important part of our history? I suppose it is, if you're very interested in Nazi history. Do we really need to include every aspect of the town's history? Is the potential damage done to this town worth reporting this? -Freekee (talk) 06:47, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

- Today the parcel, Grafton Dells River Park, is listed as 622 Green Bay Road, Cedarburg, but it is much, much closer to Grafton than Cedarburg, just a stone's throw from the south border of Grafton, in what appears to be unincorporated county land. Nothing else is closer to the parcel than Grafton. Back in the 1930s and '40s, people from Grafton went there for picnics and such; it is only one mile (walking distance) from Grafton post office. All the newspaper articles connected Camp Hindenburg to Grafton, not Cedarburg. Binksternet (talk) 07:13, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- Okay, then it's in the Town of Grafton, not the Village of Grafton. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:32, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- So now the Town of Grafton article says that it was historically important, and was the home to Nazi activities. This doesn't accurately portray the Town. What can be done about this. I ask again, is this fact important enough to include in the article? -Freekee (talk) 17:30, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- It's part of the historical record. I'm sure the people of Leith, North Dakota and Roswell, New Mexico can sympathize. Note that the Town was also the host to a much larger gathering of anti-Bund German Americans in 1940, including Milwaukee Mayor Carl Zeidler; and that many of the baby Nazis were from Illinois, and thus no disgrace to Wisconsin at all. --Orange Mike | Talk 17:37, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- Sure, it was in the newspapers. Is it historically significant enough to warrant reporting here? Similarly, what about the anti-bund demonstrations? The difference between Leith and Grafton, is here there's only one guy, trying to keep undesirables off his private property. -Freekee (talk) 00:08, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
- I don't follow those last two sentences. Are you suggesting we censor this part of Wisconsin history because it embarrasses somebody's heir? --Orange Mike | Talk 03:54, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
- No. If the fact was definitely worth reporting, I would. If I wasn't sure whether it was or not, I could use other factors to push me off the fence. Also no, not an heir - a business owner. It's not the embarrassment of past activities that is the concern. I'm not sure you understand the disgust people hold for Nazi groups. People don't want to do anything that could enable them. But most importantly, see my first two sentences here. -Freekee (talk) 16:01, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
- I'm a member of more than one group that the Nazis tried to kill off; I deeply understand the contempt and disgust that their vile doctrines inspire. But the inconvenience of a businessman is not sufficient to my eye to cause censorship of a sad period in American history (which is not the same as "enabling" them in any way, especially since the addition makes clear that most German-Americans stood firmly against this filth). --Orange Mike | Talk 16:46, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi Organgemike. I came across this company because they seem to have been chosen (according to an edit by another editor) or at least to have been in the running to occupy the NRHP listed firehouse in Fenton, Michigan. They have been in business since 1995 and also seem to opening a brewery in India, which has gotten some coverage, and to have received some (moslty local) but also some regional recognition as an outstanding brew pub. They have two locations in Michigan. Would you consider moving whatever was there to my userspace so i can have a look at it? I am not an admin so I can't see what was there and I am not questioning your speedy deletion, but I think I may be able to work it up into something worth keeping.
