ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!
editHello, Ornithoptera. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Yeah, Bubblebladder is bad, sometimes
editYou noted in your edit to TOH page that "the Bubbleblabber review is not from a reputable source or reviewer, and it does not contribute to the section." While I think Bubblebladder can be good, to be honest, they are often hostile to LGBTQ narratives, so I don't mind that the removal. Sadly, sometimes they are the only people to write about certain episodes... I think at this point, they (Bubblebladder) should have a Wikipedia page, but that's a whole other discussion. So, thanks for removing that. --Historyday01 (talk) 21:09, 4 September 2020 (UTC)
You're very welcome. I appreciate your thanks for the edit. While I believe it is important to include a diversity of opinions, Bubbleblabber is a relatively small platform and its reviewers and community are relatively outside of relevancy during this time. Especially when the statements do nothing to contribute to the overall section. Thank you again though, I'm doing my best to help improve Wikipedia the best I can. MPs
editPlease note that (a) you must not start the article about a new MP without citing a reference to verify that they have been declared elected, (b) you must categorize the article, and under no circumstances is it acceptable create an uncategorized stub, and (c) the article must have {{Infobox officeholder}} and {{Current Members of the Canadian House of Commons}} on it right off the bat.
Seriously, there's no need to rush into creating an unreferenced stub right away. It is not going to kill anybody if the articles don't get started until tomorrow morning. Bearcat (talk) 04:54, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
- And no, just saying "she was called the winner by so-and-so with X number of polls reporting" is not a reference, either. A reference is a footnote to a news article that states "Lori Idlout has been elected" in words and sentences. Bearcat (talk) 04:59, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Borocera cajani
editHi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Borocera cajani you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Chiswick Chap -- Chiswick Chap (talk) 10:21, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hi, I've finished adding comments to the GA review. None of them are major, the biggest being a suggested copy-edit (which I've offered to assist), but you'll need to address them if you want the article to pass the GA process. Chiswick Chap (talk) 16:41, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hello Chiswick Chap, thank you for your review! This is my first GA Nomination, and I would definitely appreciate some advice moving forward since I'm a bit unfamiliar with the process. Do I reply to you on the review subpage itself or do I go ahead with editing it? I would definitely be welcome for you to edit the offered sentence as I am a bit uncertain as to how I would reword it myself. Thank you so much and I hope to work with you shortly! --Ornithoptera (talk) 00:05, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
- Replies are a) actions in the article, and then b) in the GA1 page under each of my comments when they're done. I'll take that as an invitation to do a bit of copy-editing as I'd suggested - normally reviewers only do "minor" edits like punctuation. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:02, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you again for your help, and I hope you can understand this is a bit unfamiliar with me so I hope this goes well! I'm busy at the moment, but I'll get to editing as soon as I can! Thank you again Chiswick Chap! --Ornithoptera (talk) 08:13, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

You know, a lot of the prep-set building I do at DYK is done rather late, so it can get rather dreary copy/pasting sometimes. Good god, does seeing what you write just bring a smile to my face sometimes. You are consistently chipper, heartwarming, sympathetic, competent, and upbeat in the face of every message you come across. Your words don't just affect the people you write them to, they brighten the atmosphere of Did you know as if you're creating the sky. thanks for making my roles and this place more enjoyable—do stick around :) cheers! theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/them) 08:11, 27 November 2021 (UTC) |

Thank you so much for your kind words and I really do hope we can work together on DYK together, its been an amazing time working together with other Wikipedians on it! - aaaaaa—of course! :) it really is a great community to work in, I've had a great time here as well.
- p.s. no worries about the rambling—i get so excited whenever i find a new article topic to write or when i get a barnstar, i can't even think straight enough to touch my keyboard. I definitely end up making lots of pasta ramblioli. Anyways, cheers again :) theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/them) 09:26, 27 November 2021 (UTC)

- I realize I never said this: Thanks for that. I appreciate your enthusiasm around DYK and think this kind of recognition is well-earned. I say this so often that it almost feels cliche, but it's sincere: Hope to see you around soon and often. "Till next time?" A second barnstar here would be brash, so instead a small gift: . Hello Ornithoptera! I wanted to leave a "thank you" for this edit to the New Horizons article. I was curious when this was added, and found the responsible edit -- from December 2015. The same IP user (probably with good intentions, as they made constructive edits to other articles) had also added this info to the Kuiper belt article, where I have just removed it. Hi Ornithoptera, no, I was completely aware that you are indeed the creator of Insects in Japanese culture. However, just because you did all the work, unfortunately you don't own the text! In fact, anyone is entitled to pick up on any draft and continue to work on it, and indeed submit it for review or move it to main-space, without the permission of the draft's creator. In my view, the article you wrote was already referenced to a better standard than many, and was far more than a mere skeleton. It was a good article. I think, therefore, that it was entirely appropriate for another editor to move it. They should have informed you; it was not courteous for them to do it without telling you. But having done it, the AfD should not have been closed. In my view, the subject is an important one, and likely to attract attention from multiple good editors. I feel strongly that it will be a better article if open to collaborative editing (that's a basic principle of WP anyway), and it's not going to attract collaborative editing while it languishes in draft space. I'm not accusing you of this, but there is a real risk that perfectionist editors will sit on good articles indefinitely, never feeling they're quite adequate for submission; we must therefore try to accept the opinions and work of others, building on what we do. I very, very much hope you will submit this article for main-space without delay. Indeed I've asked the closing editor to reopen the AfD as I felt there was no consensus to draftify (the person who moved it to main space, and I, both presumably believe it's main-space ready). I wish everyone who submitted articles wrote them half as well as you, who didn't! I'd also emphasise that articles don't need to be "perfect" or "finished" before hitting main space. They will be perfected and improved over decades, anyway. Sorry to be having a rant! Elemimele (talk) 15:49, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
- As the AfC reviewer, I would not have accepted if I'd realized it was going over the head of the only contributor who was actively improving the article, but I do agree that it seems ready for mainspace. It's a great article! Better than most that I accept at AfC and very interesting. I don't think anyone should force you to publish it to mainspace if you're still working on it, but I'd like to gently encourage it anyway. And you should feel free to publish it directly to mainspace whenever you are ready, it'll only get better and I see no reason to have it go through review again. Rusalkii (talk) 17:08, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
- This is quite late of a second question, this whole protracted process coupled with it being a troubling time in my life due to my course load was not a healthy combination I'll let you know. @Rusalkii: when I am able to, how would I move the article draft to mainspace when I'm ready? This is my first time and I just want to know beforehand for the time when I am able to. Ornithoptera (talk) 07:32, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- You want to move the page from draft to article space by opening the "Move" dialog (under "More" in the top right). There should be an option there to change the page from "Draft" to "(Article)".
- I hope school has been easier for you lately! I'm on break right now and it's such a relief. Rusalkii (talk) 18:08, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

- I appreciate it guys, I really do! I do understand that its a meaningful subject but I was genuinely a bit cheesed that the work was considered done when it was only just midway done. Heck, the introductory paragraph was just adapted from some section where I would have reviewed the cultural context so that sat wrongly with me. Thank you so much for all your help everyone and I appreciate the feedback. Though in all honesty, I wasn't being a perfectionist, I just was aware that I was only half done and was confused that someone just randomly submitted it with any warning or anything at all whatsoever. I just needed time to focus on school is all. The one thing that did bother me was that it was only alone for a week, given I just finished my final exams, it seemed a bit hurried when there were large chunks of the page simply unfinished. Though I understand its a place for collaboration, I just wanted a bit more time (and a warning!) for the future. Thank you so much for the kind words though and I'll be sure to keep on doing my best. Todays been a long day so I apologize if my wording's a bit stilted or I misread something, please be patient with me! Ornithoptera (talk) 17:26, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
- No worries, @Ornithoptera:, I'm sorry if I came across as a bit ferocious. But I'd agree with Rusalkii, stick it in mainspace as soon as you're ready, it's a nice article on an interesting subject, and I also see no reason for it to need reviewing again. All I'd say is that if you find yourself in a few weeks simply too busy to do any more on it, don't hesitate to put it in mainspace anyway. You're doing a great job. Single bamboo drifting is an "orphan"
editHey, again. I just noticed that Single bamboo drifting was an WP:ORPHAN in that no other articles in the Wikipedia mainspace link to it. I just added it as a "See also" to the article for the Miao people -- I didn't see a natural section for it to be added, but it would be great if you could wikilink this in other relevant articles to help "MOS:BUILD the web". Perhaps something in Sport in China#Traditional sports, or List of water sports/List of sports -- or other articles more about traditional dance performances? Meant to bring it up earlier but it slipped my mind. Umimmak (talk) 06:55, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

Well, this is an odd one. My first suspicion, since I remember building that set, was that I forgot to copy/paste your credit—it's happened before. Surprisingly enough, it turned out not to be my fault. That's a new one :) Looks like DYKUpdateBot crashed right in the middle of updating credits, and since yours was the quirky, no one ever got around to awarding you on that one (or, for that matter, Unknown Temptation, No Swan So Fine, or the editor whose credit I actually did forget to add to that set, I think it was Thriley). Sorry about that, that's pretty weird – cheers! theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/they) 19:52, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
