Why blame me? Ogress (Zanhe,Kanguole may be his assumed names) is 3rr and reverting in what appears to be a problematic way on two pages:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_Wencheng and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor_Taizong%27s_campaign_against_Tufan. He appears NPOV-breaking, at least that's how I read his edits: anti-China, pro-Tibet. Ogress (Zanhe,Kanguole may be his assumed names) 's recent editing history shows that he is currently engaged in an edit war. And he adds Irrelevant text into page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor_Taizong%27s_campaign_against_Tufan. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xander berkeley (talkcontribs) 09:21, 15 November 2014‎

@Xander berkeley: I'm not blaming anyone, I'm telling you how Wikipedia operates and how you need to edit within established guidelines. As a point of etiquette, you should notify other editors (@Ogress, Zanhe, and Kanguole:) when mentioning them in a discussion like this. Your message is in part an accusation of sock-puppetry, which is pretty serious and another reason why you need to alter your behavior if you wish to continue editing here.  Philg88 talk 09:24, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

He adds Irrelevant content into page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor_Taizong%27s_campaign_against_Tufan. He reverted my edit and started the edit war. But you warned me rather than him. Is it fair?

@Xander berkeley: Life isn't fair. You're not getting the message. I told you on your talk page to discuss the issue regarding the Princess Wencheng article and instead you changed it back again. You've done the same with Emperor Taizong's campaign against Tufan and removed referenced content. This is disruptive and if it continues I will block you from editing. Clear?  Philg88 talk 11:08, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

@Philg88: The referenced content which I removed is irrelevant content. It should not be added in edit.
You are intransigent, refuse to use talk constructively, reply to queries with mocking repetition, accuse me of sock-puppetry, have pretty much double-broken the the three-revert rule on one page alone, and don't seem to be having the same conversation as others around you. You just repeat your position and do not appear even vaguely interested in cooperative editing. Ogress smash! 09:43, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

@Ogress: I'm assuming that comment was directed at Xander berkeley rather than me :) This is a content dispute, which I'd like to see resolved on the article(s) talk page. That said, if I see continued disruptive behavior by Xb then the block hammer will descend ...  Philg88 talk 09:55, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

Yeah he is talking here so I was commenting. Ogress smash! 09:58, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

@Philg88 Why are you ignoring the fact that they added irrelevant content into the article? Xander berkeley (talk) 11:43, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

@Xander berkeley: It's not for me to decide what's relevant and what isn't—neither is it a unilateral decision by you. Go and discuss the issue on the talk page and find a consensus with the other editors that will improve the article and ensure that it is balanced. And play nice.  Philg88 talk 12:44, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

Maps

Hey Philg88, as you were kind enough to reply to my note at the "resting, but not dead" map lab, would you be able to help me with the two requests I had left there a few weeks ago about maps of the Thames for early Boat Race articles? I can do all the technical stuff, but I simply (currently) don't have the software/hardware to achieve it.... The Rambling Man (talk) 21:10, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

Sure, but it won't be done overnight - I'll need a few days. As I commented on the two requests, I'd use OSM data to create the SVGs. That OK? Cheers,  Philg88 talk 21:33, 16 November 2014 (UTC)
Phil, no rush at all, I'd just be grateful for someone to do it whenever they get the chance. Hopefully the requests are clear enough? Best wishes. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:39, 16 November 2014 (UTC)
@The Rambling Man: Fortunately, I'm a Brit and quite familiar with the course of the Thames and the Boat Race :) Pip Pip!,  Philg88 talk 05:55, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

Hello Philg88. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).

Pregunta?

Hola Halias 23.

Night Train (composition)

Please don't use the word "consensus" when you mean "majority". Ghmyrtle (talk) 06:30, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

@Ghmyrtle: Majorities aren't applicable on Wikipedia per WP:NOTAVOTE. I meant "consensus", which is why I used the word.  Philg88 talk 06:38, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
I know very well that majorities aren't applicable. That's precisely why your decision surprised me. Ghmyrtle (talk) 06:56, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
@Ghmyrtle: I'm sorry if you don't agree with my decision on this. You are free to take the matter to move review if you believe that I somehow misinterpreted the consensus. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 07:02, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
No, it's not that big a deal - I was just surprised at your closing argument. Ghmyrtle (talk) 07:09, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
@Ghmyrtle: No hard feelings I hope—you can't please all of the people all of the time!  Philg88 talk 09:45, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Chinese source(s)

Hi, Ponyo suggested your name as someone who can read Chinese. Can you evaluate the Chinese article added as a source to Jannie Chan by Johnson103? Does it in fact say what he says it does? Yngvadottir (talk) 00:16, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

@Ponyo and Yngvadottir: It's an extract from a study of recent research carried out by the Singapore Hakka Research Association that says very little. More importantly it says nothing about Jannie Chan whatsoever and thus its applicability as a reference is therefore invalid—or as we Brits would say "complete bollocks".  Philg88 talk 06:33, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Jannie is actually mentioned on pg. 202 of the pdf. "梁純菁選擇胡文虎、張國林和曾秀麗為新馬客家企業家代表,並認為客家人的確具有創業文化的價值觀,可以滿足成功創業所需的條件。"  SmileBlueJay97  talk  09:47, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
Indeed, well-spotted. Sorry, I only checked the first couple of pages. For accuracy, she was one of three people selected along with Hu Wenhu and Zhang Guolin. The reference is valid, my bad.  Philg88 talk 10:40, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
OK, I will add p. 202 to the ref. if no one else has. Thanks both! Yngvadottir (talk) 12:22, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Conincidence

That we are dealing with 2 link promoters(at least right now). 1. User:Boby1187 2. User:59.180.60.185. I had formally warned Boby1187(see User_talk:Boby1187#Promotion.2Fspamming_a_website). Bladesmulti (talk) 16:29, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up Bladesmulti I've indeffed Boby1187 and will wait to see what happens with the IP. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 16:46, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

The Wall

Hello! Some time ago you said that you might help out with some copy editing when Yakikaki and I were done fixing The Wall. Well now we are, and a bit of your magic touch would be much appreciated if and when you have the time. Yaki is off moving and I'll be at the SOIC, so the article is all yours. Best, w.carter-Talk 18:06, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

ScotlandsPeople

I believe I have a preexisting account - can submit that in the form? Connormah (talk) 06:39, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

@Connormah: I'm not sure how ScotlandsPeople are going to handle this administratively and whether the free accounts will be a separate entity. By all means, mention it on the form in the "non-English wikis" field. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 06:49, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
I went ahead and submitted it under my preexisting account (didn't want to make another email address just for this purpose). I've never purchased anything on it (just redeemed some free credit offers from a while back). If it's a problem though, let me know and I will have to make a new one. Connormah (talk) 07:02, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
Sure, let's wait and see how things pan out.  Philg88 talk 07:17, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Bhargava

Sorry to bother you but I'm struggling right now to find an admin who edits even occasionally in the India topic area. Things are getting heated at Bhargava and it wouldn't surprise me if there is some meatpuppetry going on, given three different redlinked accounts turning up in rapid succession. Any chance you could add it to your watchlist for a day or two? - Sitush (talk) 10:43, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

No problem at all, my friend, I'll take a look. Oddly enough, I was planning to leave you a message this morning over the neutrality of the Punjab, India article. I'm not sure that the tag for the whole thing is warranted - the problem seems to be with the "Economy" section, even though the claims are sourced. I've fixed the problem with the "Transportation" section (I think) but I'd be grateful if you'd have a look and remove the tags if appropriate. Best,  Philg88 talk 10:52, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I'm off out for an hour or two but will look at the Punjab thing later, sure. - Sitush (talk) 10:54, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
@Sitush: I've left what I hope was a supportive message on the Bhargava talk page. It seems that Bhargavaflame is now claiming that Bhargava isn't a gotra but a grouping of 12 gotras. I don't know enough about this topic area to offer constructive input to the discussion, but I will back you up on matters of policy. Best,  Philg88 talk 11:35, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
That's ok. No-one expects you to understand the complexities - just so long as you understand the policies! A gotra is a clan; there can be many gotras in a caste and there can also be sub-clans. Sometimes it is easier to refer to this lot as a "community", simply because it saves us having to got bogged down in detail. I've replied there and am now off to look at Punjab (the article, I'm thousands of miles from the place). - Sitush (talk) 12:36, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, I get the clan bit, but I'm missing the in-depth cultural and religious background knowledge. That, of course, is where Wikipedia comes in. I'll keep an eye on what develops at Bhargava. Enjoy The Punjab! Cheers,  Philg88 talk 13:22, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

Suny3598 (talk · contribs) doesn't seem to be getting the message. I'm pretty sure this is a meatfarm, working via some community forum. - Sitush (talk) 20:38, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
@Sitush: I've semi-protected the article for a week, which should stop any meatpuppetry for now. Let me know if you think further action is required. And thanks for your work on Punjab, India. Best,  Philg88 talk 21:55, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
Ok, thanks very much. Am I ok to revert Suny's last removal of valid sourced info? I think it takes me over the edge. - Sitush (talk) 22:00, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
Sam Sailor has already reverted, so nothing to worry about for now.  Philg88 talk 22:04, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
Should I file at ANEW? Suny has removed "The Bhargava community were originally a trading caste ..." etc four times (with small differences) within the last 24 hours if I can count. Sam Sing! 22:08, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

I protected the page rather than block Suny to avoid a potential further backlash from other meat/sock puppets. I doubt if Suny will edit any other articles so blocking isn't really going to help the situation. That said, I'd like to hear what Sitush thinks. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 22:13, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

I doubt it is worth the effort filling in the ANEW template. I've already left the caste sanctions warning, so if they come back to do the same stuff again, I'd just find a willing admin to act per WP:GS/Caste. I've seen this pattern so many times, across so many caste articles, that I've long since given up concerning myself too much with WP:BITE when a group of like-minded accounts register very soon after each other. If Philg88 isn't willing, someone else will be. - Sitush (talk) 22:18, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

About the usage of G6 for speedy deletion

Hello, Philg88. First of all, thank you for moving Ilhabela. Now, I've been thinking: would it have been possible for me, as a non-admin, to add {{db-move|1=Ilhabela, São Paulo|2=unnecessary disamiguation}} or something like that to that page, so that it gets deleted and I can make the move myself without taking the time of admins? Or it doesn't make much difference if I do it myself or if I request the move? Thank you, Victão Lopes Fala! 20:51, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi there Victão, and thanks for the message. As you say, it doesn't make much difference but it's probably quicker to request it at non-controversial moves as an admin is likely to see it more quickly—the page is checked pretty often. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 21:44, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

Would you state this block on ANI? For user preference. Bladesmulti (talk) 13:13, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

@Bladesmulti: You may care to take a look at Nepal, it seems we have a potentially similar situation developing there.  Philg88 talk 08:18, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
I have that page added to my watchlist, I have just reverted him. It looks like he is continously involved in promoting his thought and discriminating others. See the edit history of India, Gautama Buddha( and the talk (page)) It is obvious that he has crossed 3rr, since he has changed pointed content for more than 3 times in 24 hours during the edit dispute. Bladesmulti (talk) 08:21, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
As it stands on Gautama Buddha, you are both at two reverts each so please be careful. It seems that we have a clear case of WP:IDIDNTHEARTHAT with regard to Buddha's birthplace and I'm minded to consider this disruptive in light of the other article edits.  Philg88 talk 08:44, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
Yes I did two times. He is just misrepresenting a faulty citation(UNESCO) and adding imaginary claims like "He lived most of his life in Nepal", etc, when they are not supported by the citation. Bladesmulti (talk) 09:00, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

I can't take sides in a content dispute to avoid becoming WP:INVOLVED. What I don't want here is for you to end up getting blocked for edit warring. I've left a further message on AGRs talk page, indicating that my patience is wearing thin.  Philg88 talk 09:06, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

  • Undid for (nonsensical and too against the rest of historicity) [1] when I had provided the source and Gautam Buddha has lived more than 15 yrs in Nepal. I had written the same.
  • Undid revision without reason [2] Inclusion of History of India in name of History of Indian subcontinent in History of South Asia South Asia as if whole south asia is contained within India.
  • Undid revision (irrevalent category) [3] But the category for english is relavent.

Technical page move: Java Servlet to Java servlet?

I noticed you removed the request to move Java Servlet to Java servlet and the page move log says it was moved but the page still has the old title. Was this an oversight? Thanks for your help. Jojalozzo 04:48, 28 November 2014 (UTC)

@Jojalozzo: No it wasn't an oversight. I carried out the move as an "uncontroversial technical request" but it clearly wasn't as Andy Dingley reverted the move. If you still want the article moved you will need to talk to Andy or post a {{requested move}} template on the talk page.  Philg88 talk 07:37, 28 November 2014 (UTC)
This has come and gone repeatedly over the years. It comes down to, "Does WP's abhorrence for capitalisation override Sun et al. (with sources) treating it as a proper noun phrase?"
It's probable, given WP's fondness for inventing neologisms over following reality, that it will end up lowercased. However it's certainly not "uncontroversial". Andy Dingley (talk) 11:56, 28 November 2014 (UTC)
