Comparing your submission with About the Museum, it is obvious that the structure of your article matches theirs, just with parts deleted, which is evidence of plagiarism (link to Wikipedia policy). In many places, paraphrasing is too close to the original as well. ("At the turn of the 20th century, St. Louis County’s population was booming, and county leaders decided to build a courthouse that would be unrivalled in Minnesota." and "As the years progressed, the number of GAR members diminished." are two examples). All this with no quotation marks anywhere.

The Web 2.0 Copywriting Article

Hi PleaseStand, thanks for your feedback about this article - I could really use some help with it, the topic is still so new but its getting bigger and bigger everyday which is why I thought there should be a wiki on it so that people know what it is. I've taken all the bits about Contrast Media out - but I've left the seo copy section in, I know it overlaps but it is a fundamental part of web 2.0 copywriting and I think to understand it properly people need to make the connection. Well, to start with, you should look at Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners and cite the sources you used within the text, just after you state the fact (this sentence is a deliberate example).[1] If you use the scheme they describe, be sure to add {{reflist}} to the bottom of the article.[1] If you can't figure it out, just number the sources you used and put the numbers where you want them (in brackets [1] or something like that), and I can fix it so that it works correctly. All the sources were from articles and websites that wiki says I can't list? That's where I'm having the trouble. Most of the stuff I got off the Michael Fortin website and off Contrast Media's website. There are also a few blogs about it, but nothing that wiki would consider 'verifiable' info. Your problem could be that "Web 2.0 copywriting" is really a buzzword invented by Contrast Media to market their services. Perhaps it would be best to add a section to social media marketing that elaborates on the challenges of writing marketing copy for Twitter, for example, if you can find this information. Do you believe that it is time for me to decline your submission because you have not been able to find sources? You can resubmit your article if you find them later, and if you think that "Web 2.0 copywriting" is something that people might type into our search box, I can redirect it to the article that already exists for you. Hi again, its okay that the article was declined I'll wait until the term gets bigger - but it certainly isn't only Contrast Media's buzzword thats for sure! Hey, I'm standing, but still have a problem anyway. :) I've got "Toggle comment highlighting" below "Special pages" in my toolbox submenu, but I cannot tab to it. Well, that's confusing. Any idea what I'm seeing? Viewing the webpage code doesn't reveal anything useful that I can see. Also, my advanced editing features have disappeared (cite extension, vector's features, and so on), so I'm no longer seeing any dropdowns. It looks just like monobook used to. Is there maybe some adverse effect being caused by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:PleaseStand/highlight-comments.js or my lack of proper implementation? It doesn't have to do with my script; even with all scripts and gadgets turned off, the old edit toolbar still shows up on the Vector skin. Others are saying the same thing at WP:VPT. PleaseStand (talk) 03:16, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

I see now. I was not clear on what this did. I thought it highlighted comments in the edit box, but what it really does is highlight my comments, or messages or whatever, on talk pages. After reading one of the Village Pump messages regarding server lag

Maybe automatic (edit=autoconfirmed,move=sysop) status should be applied to all pages whenever server lag is higher than 300 seconds. I'm already used to it from YouTube maintenance. Any full-protected pages could remain full protected. The last two spikes that I saw anyhow were under 200. mechamind90 18:02, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm not a MediaWiki dev or Wikipedia sysadmin, but I do know that 1000 s database lag is not an ordinary event. The most recent spike (at about 1000 s lag) probably happened as a result of a mistaken global oversighting of a long-time editor's 140,000+ edits and did not last for very long. Note that some of Wikipedia's bots are already coded to slow down or stop editing when lag exceeds 3–5 s. PleaseStand (talk) 19:40, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Map zooming

Hi. I know you are an expert on coding but how are you on template coding? See National Portrait Gallery (United States). You know on ebay when you are browsing items you can hover over a picture with the mouse to zoom in? Ideally what would be useful here is when you hover over the map it produces a zoomed larger version with the pin still on it to make out street names. Is this possible? If you click on the globe icon next to "Coordinates" at the top of the page, you get the WikiMiniAtlas view but that does not include streets. You might be interested in the OpenStreetMap-Wikipedia collaboration, which aims to integrate free street maps with Wikipedia's articles. PleaseStand (talk) 19:57, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

LOL, yes I know about that, I have made nearly a hundred open street map locators of cities and province on here. Check out this. When you click the geo globe on German wiki now it features on the open street map at different zoomable levels. If we could import this technology this would be perfect.... On the MediaWiki-l mailing list I asked

Strange Problem with custom user pages

That is because he is trying to CSS-position his heading over the real one. The Vector skin is different from Monobook, and therefore it does not look right. Turning off the user info script, you would still see the duplicate headings. PleaseStand (talk) 04:06, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

  • I do not see a legitimate basis for your speedy keep of this article, and request that you reverse your action and reopen the AFD. The opinion was about evenly divided: the nominator (me) and 3 others for deleting, and an equal number for keeping. Otherwise it needs to go to deletion review. Why did you find it necessary to end the debate after a few hours, with no consensus and no "snowball?" You have merely set up the need for another AFD. Edison (talk) 15:27, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

        • Thanks for reopening the AFD. Your decision that "There were no remaining arguments" for deletion assumes that any stated reason was completely demolished by any argument to the contrary. But some asserting "anyone who was the target of a bomb" or "anyone who had an obituary in a major paper" has satisfied GNG are novel arguments not found in any guideline and not found in erthe compilation of AFD outcomes. It is not necessary for the nominaator or others to add novel reasons for deletion in addition to the initial argument that notability is lacking per our guidelines. Question regarding freeze template

I thought I would be able to use your {{freeze}} template to save a version of the main page(to keep track of a DYK).

I recorded one on 10 May here. As I went to add a new one today, I checked the 10 May entry, and it displays today's main page.

The main page's sections are transcluded templates, therefore that won't work. You have to use Template:Did you know as the page name instead. I have fixed the two links on your user page for you. PleaseStand (talk) 20:15, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Our WP:verifiability policy requires that the information in articles be attributable to reliable, published sources. You may also want to look at our WP:conflict of interest and WP:notability guidelines. Third-party sources generally are necessary to establish notability. You can resubmit to Articles for Creation at any time, or you can save a userspace draft at User:MtRainier7/Veterans' Memorial Hall (click the link). Regardless of which location you save the article at, I can take a look at it. By the way, it is likely that the four tildes to sign your username are not working properly because you have the "Sign my name using the provided wikitext" option checked in "My preferences". He said that some parts still have to be reworded; "The years passed, and inevitably the number of GAR members diminished..." is too close, as well as "Veterans' Memorial Hall is maintained by...".
