WikiCup 2015 launch newsletter
Round one of the 2015 WikiCup has begun! So far we've had around 80 signups, which close on February 5. If you have not already signed up and want to do so, then you can add your name here. There have been changes to to several of the points scores for various categories, and the addition of Peer Reviews for the first time. These will work in the same manner as Good Article Reviews, and all of the changes are summarised here.
Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round, and one of the new changes this year is that all scores must be claimed within two weeks of an article's promotion or appearance, so don't forget to add them to your submissions pages! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! SSX 3
First of all, thanks a bunch for the reassessment; the article was the first I've ever done major work on, and I appreciate you taking the time the evaluate it. Regarding what you said about me repeating myself, the race and freestyle courses in the game have very similar structures (events, backcountry, peak event); however, I am unsure about how I should simplify this information. After talking about races, would I just say something along the lines of "Freestyle events are structured similarly to race events" to replace a lot of what I said originally? Thanks! Re: Cowboy Bebop
I realize that my work on said film makes me sound a little dishonest in hindsight, though it's nice to be appreciated. Cowboy Bebop: The Movie is the very first film article I've ever done that much work on, and it was more for fun than anything else (I've grown quite fond of it and intend to get the series some day). Well, that and the fact that the article was in a terrible state (I was generally using Ghost in the Shell as a template). I was toying with the idea of bringing it to GA at some point. As to Advent Children, that was a behemoth compared to Bebop, and you'd already said you were working on it, so I didn't interfere and focused on the other VII articles. --ProtoDrake (talk) 23:49, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Journey - developer's commentary references
Hi PresN,
Just browsing you're Journey article, and noticed that in article as a whole - especially in the development section - the developer's commentary (as part of the collector's edition of the game) has not been used as a source! Was this intentional? If not I would gladly enrich the article with it.
I was thinking of rewriting the story section too - would it be appropriate to include different interpretations of key events (obviously sourced) or keep it to a single perspective?
Elite article
Hi and thanks for your input on the Elite article, I don't know the proper netiquette here, if you watch the talk page and already saw my comment there. I basically wanted to ask you for a final looksee before I request another reassessment. I hope the pieces are mostly in place, with only minor readjusments required. GameFAQs
Hi.
There is a discussion about the deletion of {{GameFAQs}} template in Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2015 February 8 § Template:GameFAQs. It is relisted, so I though I'd be good idea to publicize by calling people who work in the relevant field, such as yourself. I guessing having so much experience in WP:FA and video game articles means your opinion is very important. Just for the record, this template generates an external link to GameFAQs.com in External links sections of articles.
One minor request: The closing admin was a little bit, shall I say, disenfranchised by the unrelated discussions like the merit of using GameFAQs link anywhere other than the EL section. So, I'd appreciate if such discussion were either totally avoided or kept to a bare minimum. Thanks a lot.
Best regards,

Request IAR Review of my Ban
Hi PresN, I'm leaving this for you and a similar one for Xaosflux in the hopes that you'll put your heads together to help me be unbanned. You'll recall I similarly contacted you in September and you told me go through the proper channels. I wanted to let you know I have done so. I used UTRS and received no response. I appealed to BASC and then the full Arbcom both of which refused me without providing a reason. There was also nothing but insignificant discussion with BASC and Arbcom, in other words they did not reply to anything I said in my own defense, neither did they offer a policy under which I should be blocked.
Since I was blocked, permanently and without warning or discussion close to three years ago, I have felt bullied and mobbed at every turn. Please do not laugh "oh ha ha, poor thing." As one bit of evidence it is true probably my most dogged hounder latest username "Dangerous_Panda" was deysoped late last year for "conduct unbecoming an admin." The bullying is not just my imagination. Another thing that has really galled me in my various attempts to be unblocked is that I am constantly set to mute and denied the ability to defend myself. My RFC/U was I think literally the first ever in which the user was prohibited from speaking in his own defense.
Well, it doesn't help to type more here. I will squeeze in that "no, I never socked Wikipedia," but "yes, in frustration at being wrongly blocked and having I believe no workable avenue of appeal, I have block-evaded using IP edits clearly identified to my username." I would be pleased if you and Xaosflux would unblock merely my talkpage to continue this discussion and allow me to defend against whatever criticisms you may have. I will make the case that the block appeals system is really broken and I hope you consider an IAR approach to get me out from under this. If you won't, well, all I can say is that I hope that someday *you* find yourself in need of help, but you know what? Unlike me, I hope you get it.
I'll be back to put in my signature in a moment, if I don't, it's been filtered. Wait, just refer to your own edit on 16:19, 23 October 2014 (UTC)if you have any doubt who this is.

WikiCup 2015 March newsletter
That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. 64 competitors made it into this round, and are now broken into eight groups of eight. The top two of each group will go through to round 3, and then the top scoring 16 "wildcards" across all groups. Round 1 saw some interesting work on some very important articles, with the round leader Freikorp (submissions) owing most of his 622 points scored to a Featured Article on the 2001 film Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within which qualified for a times-two multiplier. This is a higher score than in previous years, as Godot13 (submissions) had 500 points in 2014 at the end of round 1, and our very own judge, Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) led round 1 with 601 points in 2013.
In addition to Freikorp's work, some other important articles and pictures were improved during round one, here's a snapshot of a few of them:
- Cwmhiraeth (submissions) took Bumblebee, a level-4 vital article, to Good Article;
- AHeneen (submissions) worked-up the Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 article, also to Good Article status;
- Rodw (submissions) developed an extremely timely article to Good Article, taking Magna Carta there some 800 years after it was first sealed;
- And last but not least, Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points) worked up a number of Featured Pictures during round 1, including the 1948 one Deutsche Mark (pictured right), receiving the maximum bonus due to the number of Wikis that the related article appears in.
You may also wish to know that The Core Contest is running through the month of March. Head there for further details - they even have actual prizes!
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. RE: Grow Home
Hey; thanks a lot for reassessing Grow Home. I definitely appreciate the feedback. Regarding what you said about including the number of reviews the averages are based on in the review template: I can think of featured articles, such as GTA V and Half-Life 2: Episode One, that don't do this, so I'm a little sceptical. Has it recently been decided that it should be done at WP:VG or do you solitarily think it would be helpful? It doesn't seem to be the norm. Thanks again. BlookerG talk 00:38, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
Open world games
"For a game to be considered "Open world" it must contain ONE or more of these key features: Exploration, side quests and/or open areas. Examples are: Dragon Age Origins, Minecraft and Legend of Zelda."

- (talk page stalker) @ECW28, what matters is not WP's definition but how the reliable sources define it. You should find reliable video game sources from the previous link that refer to the games as "open world" and bring those sources to each article's talk page for discussion. czar ⨹ 17:52, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
- (talk page owner) @ECW28, if you want to define an open-world game as one with side quests, you just declared every RPG in existence to be an open-world game. That's not what it means. As Czar said, find a reliable source that says FF13 or FF13-2 is an open-world game, and stop edit-warring over inclusion in the category. --PresN 18:13, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

This is why I don't like Wikipedia, because of people like you, who think it has to be completely "perfect" and without any "mistakes" While yes I have grammar mistakes, you don't have to be a GRAMMAR NAZI, and point out every mistake like if you were perfect. Well, I agree with you this time, it seemed I forgot the rules of this site when I edited the Sega Consoles page. I will try to improve my English grammar, and try to find a source the next time... I just hate the term "commercial failure" when (I'm maybe wrong) a company sells thousands of copies of a console, I don't find that as a "commercial failure" yes, I agree the sales of the Saturn and Dreamcast were lower when compared to the PlayStation or the PS2... But Nintendo? With the SNES? I just don't agree there, at least where I live, almost nobody knows the SNES, and the Genesis is still popular among today's consoles such as the PS4, or Xbox One. The NES here was also popular, but today one rarely sees somebody owning one. The Master System as far as I know was much more popular in countries such as Brazil or Spain. I'm writing of what I know about. My native language is Spanish, but contributing in the Spanish Wikipedia isn't just as awesome as contributing in the English one. The second round one has all wrapped up, and round three has now begun! Congratulations to the 34 contestants who have made it through, but well done and thank you to all contestants who took part in our second round. Leading the way overall was Cas Liber (submissions) in Group B with a total of 777 points for a variety of contributions including Good Articles on Corona Borealis and Microscopium - both of which received the maximum bonus.
Special credit must be given to a number of high importance articles improved during the second round.
- Coemgenus (submissions) was one of several users who worked on improving Ulysses S. Grant. Remember, you do not need to work on an article on your own - as long as each person has completed significant work on the article during 2015, multiple competitors can claim the same article.
- Cwmhiraeth (submissions) took Dragonfly to Good Article for a 3x bonus - and if that wasn't enough, they also took Damselfly there as well for a 2x bonus.
- LeftAire (submissions) worked up Alexander Hamilton to Good Article for the maximum bonus. Hamilton was one of the founding fathers of the United States and is a level 4 vital article.
The points varied across groups, with the lowest score required to gain automatic qualification was 68 in Group A - meanwhile the second place score in Group H was 404, which would have been high enough to win all but one of the other Groups! As well as the top two of each group automatically going through to the third round, a minimum score of 55 was required for a wildcard competitor to go through. We had a three-way tie at 55 points and all three have qualified for the next round, in the spirit of fairness. The third round ends on June 28, with the top two in each group progressing automatically while the remaining 16 highest scorers across all four groups go through as wildcards. - I would really appreciate a grammar check and a go-through the references to make sure it's all consistent and up-to-date. Whenever you're able. there's no huge rush. --ProtoDrake (talk) 21:24, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
- @ProtoDrake: Alright, copy-edited the text and consistentized the references. I did notice that the Cloud and Tifa sections seem short, even for ones that have their own articles- both Aerith and Yuffie have longer sections, for example, that mention what they do in each game. Up to you, of course, you (re)wrote the thing. --PresN 23:10, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

Rowspan problems
Hi there,
I tried fixing the "invisible row" problem for rowspans in my other list already promoted to FLC. Unfortunately it creates a problems that looks like this ([1]). The 1929/30 section is shortchanged because I changed it from "7" rows to "6" (since there were six nominees). Gloria Swanson's row shift to the left. Can you help?
- --Birdienest81 (talk) 16:07, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, @Birdienest81: I made the table sortable at Academy Award for Best Actress in this edit. There were a few things that I did:
- Added "sortable" to the table
- Removed the bits that turned the whole table yellow, then turned it back to default gray (cancelling each other out)
- For each year- there was a "|-" between the rowspanned year and the rest of the row; what this was doing was saying "row 1, the year (rowspanned out to 6); row 2, the rest of the year's winner." The winner's year column needs to be in the same row as the winner, so removing that "|-" is removing the extra row. You couldn't see there was a problem before because the first row had only 1 cell (the year) and the next row had 4 cells, so since the table was 5 cells wide it slid the two half-rows together. Once you sort it, though, you no longer had the rows matching up like that, so the table gets bent.
- With the half rows stuck back together, the rowspan number was wrong- I made sure both the year and ref rowspans matched each other and the number of nominees.
- There were a few places with two rows of "|-" in a row; these are real "invisible rows" that mess up the rowspan count so I fixed them (and the count). --PresN 16:49, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
- Is it possible that could you do the same for Academy Award for Best Actor? I want to fix it, but I do more damage to it than improving it, and I've got to study for exams.
- Hi, @Birdienest81: I made the table sortable at Academy Award for Best Actress in this edit. There were a few things that I did:
Obviously you can't read either. I never said I wouldn't not add a source, but as I said repeatedly, I was in a country for a very, very short amount of time which did not permit me to search for sources. As it goes, someone else did add a source for me. You say I've annoyed you and Crisco, but both of you have annoyed me, too. I haven't found either of you to be that personable. I found Crisco extremely blunt and aggressive in tone from the outset of his presence. I did mention other album appearances in the lead originally, but as you clearly haven't read, multiple editors had issues with it with regard to length and being overly detailed. So, you're saying one thing, others are saying another thing. Further, I did as you asked with regard to sorting, I can't help that you're example didn't work. I don't know what else you expect me to do about it.
I don't get "angry" or "upset". If there are problems, I will (and do) fix them if I agree that they are indeed problems (which is most often). I don't demand editors do things either, I don't know where you are making this up from. Thanks for closing the nomination as not promoted, despite me addressing and doing everything you asked for. And FLC is not about fixing all issues on command as if it were a dictatorship. I am allowed to disagree with comments raised. Not everything editors suggest are correct. — Calvin999 11:33, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
As you have previously commented on similar nominations, I wondered if you would be kind enough to take a look at Cricket Writers' Club Young Cricketer of the Year which is now nominated at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Cricket Writers' Club Young Cricketer of the Year/archive1? Harrias talk 11:40, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
Hey
Thanks for that mention on the Wikiproject video games talk page. I can't believe Anachronox is TFA. I'm really, really hoping Tom Hall sees it. I didn't even try to nominate Anachronox as TFA since I assumed it wouldn't have enough points at least for a while. Score another one for WP:VG! ZeaLitY [ Talk - Activity ] 13:51, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
- ZeaLitY, we haven't used points for more than a year. Brian must have thought that the article was a good match for today. Mind, looking back it seems we've had three VG TFAs in May, and are likely to have 2 in June... which means I'll have to put my plan to run a VG character on hold. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 16:16, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
Can you provide a more detailed rationale for your deletion of Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Priyanka Chopra/archive1? The rationale "(Main contributor super-angry that this nomination exists)" really toes the line with WP:OWN by supporting that an author has "ownership" of the article, and hence deserves special treatment based on their "anger". This nomination was in good faith, and generated significant discussion that better belongs in the archives instead of being deleted. Chrislk02 Chris Kreider 12:21, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- As the person who asked Chris (thought he may have done it couldn't find page) I agree completely. There was nothing in that nom that should have been deleted. It was contested. Hell in a Bucket (talk) 12:28, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Since being somewhat involved, I felt like leaving a comment as well. I agree with Chris Kreider that this belongs in the archives. A page with enough involvement shouldn't be deleted simply because one editor with anger issues doesn't like it. — Yash! (Y) 12:36, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Chrislk02: see User talk:GamerPro64 for the request; if you feel that it should not have been deleted feel free to undelete- I don't want to get too involved in that discussion. --PresN 15:24, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for the quick response, I am not opposed to it being deleted as long as it goes through the proper channels (WP:MFD). I went ahead and undeleted it. Chrislk02 Chris Kreider 16:37, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- There was nothing in that archive which gives a lesson to improve the topi. Was there? No. There was only a reason saying other articles should be included in that. That does not help because it was a premature nomination, without any means. Its my humble request to please keep the way it is and let it deleted. At least, you guys can listen to my request!—Prashant 15:35, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- Records of nominations are not deleted because they are premature, nowhere else on this project is that considered acceptable (that I am aware of). The most relevant area I can think of is WP:RFA. I myself have two RFA's, the first of which failed. I did not say "please delete my failed RFA", and there is even strong evidence that taken to MFD, these deletions are not made and instead recorded. Chrislk02 Chris Kreider 15:59, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
Sorry about getting you involved with this, Pres. You were the first admin that popped into my head with this, as well as you understanding the Featured Topics process. GamerPro64 16:54, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- @GamerPro64: No worries! Everything seems to have sorted itself out for now. --PresN 01:13, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry for butting in. I was really wondering why the page was deleted yesterday. It was clearly a case of WP:DONTLIKE on the editor in question's side as Yash says. —Vensatry (ping) 17:21, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
Persona 2 inquiry
Hey PresN, I was wondering if you could help me later. I'm planning a major rewrite/change to the Persona 2 article: changing the current (terrible) one to the article for Innocent Sin and creating a new one for Eternal Punishment. But I need the help of an admin, or at least someone who knows their way around redirects or knows and admin, to sort out the problem of the page move part being blocked by an Innocent Sin redirect (for Eternal Punishment, I can just use the redirect page to create the article, like I've done before (I think)). Could you help with that? --ProtoDrake (talk) 12:32, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- @ProtoDrake: No problem, now done - Persona 2: Innocent Sin, page histories intact. --PresN 15:31, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
Oscar winners indication and accessibility
HesioneHushabye seems to have a problem with the markup for the winners in the Academy Award for Best Actress (particularly the double daggers). Can you explain to him that it is for accessibility reasons)?
Can you turn Serious Sam and Serious Sam II into Featured article?
I like that game very much. The First and Second encounter is good. Along with Serious Sam II.--C E (talk) 06:07, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
Hi. Hope you're well. May I take the opportunity to say I've been thoroughly impressed at how you've taken on the mantle of FLC delegate thus far. Anyway back to business, the above list's nominator has indicated their wish to withdraw as they have already nominated another list which hasn't yet received significant support. Cowlibob (talk) 17:27, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
- @Cowlibob: Thanks! Now removed. --PresN 17:52, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Reassessment
Hey there. I know you were the one who reassessed Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 after I revamped it (thank you very much, by the way). I'm coming to you in regards to a reassessment I requested for Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. An editor downgraded the article from a C-class rating to Start class, stating it was "badly referenced and could use expanding". I wrote to him/her on their talk page, and am currently awaiting a response. As I stated on their talk page, I can maybe understand their reasoning about parts needing some expansion, particularly the development portion (I had to cut a lot of stuff because they were attributed to dead sources, and I couldn't find adequate replacements). What I don't understand is their claim that it's "badly referenced". I've actually added more sources to the body of the article and replaced a lot of dead links over the past few days. I'm assuming they're referring to the lead having no references in it, to which I cited WP:CITELEAD. I took care to cite every single sentence in the body, so...yeah...that part of their reasoning makes no sense to me.
Am I allowed to ask for a re-reassessment? I'm not sure if this rating is exactly fair... Wani (talk) 14:52, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for your help. I would like to submit the page to GAN eventually, and you said there were a few medium-sized issues left to address. I would greatly appreciate any feedback regarding improvements to the article. Thanks again, and sorry for the trouble! Wani (talk) 04:17, 3 June 2015 (UTC)
Could you check Snake Rewind again?

GA message
I've finished my review of Dawn of Mana, and it seemed good enough to me that I gave it an instant pass. It was a pleasure going through it. As to the review exchange agreed on earlier, I would really appreciate a review of Fabula Nova Crystallis over Megami Tensei. I've got two supports so far. --ProtoDrake (talk) 09:56, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

FNC help needed
I'm worried about the review for Fabula Nova Crystallis, feeling that it might not go through. I remember you offered to do a source review, which is really the only thing left to do. If you can't do it yourself, can you contact someone else who can help please? --ProtoDrake (talk) 21:44, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
- @ProtoDrake: Currently moving across the country, so editing Wikipedia is difficult (phone only); I'll be able to get to it after Monday. I think the coordinators also ask people on th FAC talk page as well, like post lists of which moms need them? --PresN 01:43, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
