@Dr. Blofeld: yup, will try to expand it and add refs (the ones in the es-wiki article seem good) tonight. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:25, 2 October 2015 (UTC)

Still not sure - I really should, seeing as it's in my backyard. How long are you in town? --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:22, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

I arrive Thursday afternoon, leave Monday afternoon. Would like to pick your brain re: AWB if you have some time. You should come. There will be a lot of interesting people attending, and if you haven't pre-registered, you can register at the door (I'm a conference staff member which is how I know this). I'm speaking Sat morning after the keynote and doing a panel at the end of the day.[1]. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:56, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
I'll look into it and see if/when I can make it. Evenings are probably out, as I have one definite prior commitment and one likely one. I'll let you know how my schedule shapes up as we get closer to the day. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:25, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

Question

Thank you... dearest   !

I've been working insistently on List of compositions by Viktor Kosenko for over three years (if I told you the story behind my latest efforts to collect information on Kosenko's compositions you wouldn't believe me), and now somebody shows up, "copy" my work-in-progress, and claims its creation. That is, my A-number-one piece of work is now part of somebody else's list of articles created. How to deal with that ? Krenakarore TK 17:51, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

@Krenakarore: hi friend. That other editor made a mistake in how he handled the move -- not the least of which included not contacting you in advance -- but I think it's fixable so hang on. Let's see what Drmies says. Wish I could fix it; sorry I can't. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:12, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
@Krenakarore: Dear colleague;
Please forgive me for intruding in the present exchange. There is a way of tagging an edit such that it is clear that it is a duplicate of a previous one; it might be a special 'anchoring' template but I can't remember the details of it; maybe another editor will know. I've come across this facility only once some time ago and have tried to find it for you tonight but haven't succeeded yet. I'll keep looking for it and will update here again if/when I find it. I am away all day tomorrow but will persevere on my return. Good luck.
With kind regards for now;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 03:24, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
Found it! In Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia, there is a reference to the {{copied}} template. I hope this template will prove helpful for your purposes. Good luck and all best wishes.
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 04:19, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
Yup, I use that one a lot; thanks @Pdebee. What occurred with Krenakarore's list was different, and the other admin ended up deleting the botched result. Hope all is well with you, though, and happy editing! --Rosiestep (talk) 13:17, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
Dear Rosie,
Oh dear! Please forgive me for barking up the wrong tree and for offering less than useful suggestions... I promise to study this more closely and also to refrain, in future, from offering unsolicited advice that also turns out to be largely ineffective...
Thank you for being so nice about it, though, and also for enquiring; yes, I am very well and hoping the same applies to you. Please keep well and joyful.
With kindest regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 19:39, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
@Pdebee: no apoligies necessary, amigo. It all worked out. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:07, 8 October 2015 (UTC)
  • @Rosiestep, Drmies, and Krenakarore: Excuse my butting in here but I have seen the List of compositions by Viktor Kosenko on the Google cache] and it seems to me it is well worthwhile adding to the article. Can't we reach some compromise on this? It would really be a pity if it simply disappeared. It is obviously the result of a great deal of hard work. I don't know who produced it first but we do all work in a spirit of cooperation. If Krenakore has his own version, then I would suggest he should add it to the article asap before someone else retrieves it and does the same.--Ipigott (talk) 15:28, 8 October 2015 (UTC)
    • I agree it should be up in article space but we can hardly force an editor to do so if they think it's not ready. However, Krenakarore, you can put it up and continue to work on it, of course: two-thirds of an article is better (for the reading audience) than no article at all. Drmies (talk) 16:02, 8 October 2015 (UTC)
I have compared the version prepared by Krenakarore with the one which was apparently loaded up onto the mainspace and see they are virtually identical. I certainly think it would be extremely helpful to all of those interested in Viktor Kosenko if we could benefit from the list under development by Krenakarore. Once the list is up on the mainspace, it will not only present a far better account of the compositions than those given in the biography but will allow others (e.g. Gerda Arendt) to make further additions and improvements.--Ipigott (talk) 20:37, 8 October 2015 (UTC)

removal of my page "Les Enfants Terribles (café)

Oh dear. Wiki is a mystery for us outsiders. I've just discovered that the page I created has been deleted for a reason that makes no sense to me at all. There are almost no external references - though I have now found some mention on other sites and in several books. This seems very unfair as I never log in - or rather haven't since creating the page so I never got the message someone wanted to delete it. The situation is that I seem to be the only "expert" on this subject and since talking to an ex-waitress can now fairly safely claim this was probably the second expresso bar in London and probably the first discothèque. Does my text still exist somewhere? Help?

Contact an administrator, maybe User:TransporterMan who was part of the deletion process and who can give you the recovered deleted text. Put it in your WP:Sandbox until it is ready to go live. Remember WP:OR and WP:RS Consider putting it up for WP:DYK based upon its unique historical place. Good luck. 7&6=thirteen () 18:18, 9 October 2015 (UTC)

Possible GA push

Myself and a couple other editors are debating if we want to take Jeannette Rankin to GAN. Would you like to take a look at the article and comment there? Montanabw(talk) 02:50, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

@Montanabw: I've looked carefully through the article and it certainly seems to me to be material for GA. I worked on a few of the repeated wikilinks in the article (usually one for each item is sufficient) but I suspect there are several more requiring attention. The lead needs to be expanded (and should not contain citations). The citations containing author names should be standardized (last name first, etc.). As you have contributed to a whole string of GA articles, I'm sure you know how to proceed.--Ipigott (talk) 13:18, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

Hello Rosiestep

I was looking over the Women in Red information. I found a list of red link articles for the editathon. Is it ok to use the red links now to get started? I would like to attend the editathon, but I do not live in New York. Are there other ways to help out? Can I start another article from the list? Or are you saving them? I probably should have asked first. So sorry!

Z Zpeopleheart (talk) 14:44, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi, @Zpeopleheart; thank you for stopping by. Yes, yes, yes, please go for it and start all the articles you like as soon as you feel like doing so. The redlinks are not being saved for the edit-a-thon. While the "physical" event is being held in New York City and other cities on various dates, Women in Red is hosting the "virtual"/"online" event for about 11 days although several editors have already started on the articles so the start and end dates are more like suggestions. The end game is what's important... lots of new articles about women in architecture and design. Happy editing, --Rosiestep (talk) 15:10, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
Don't mean to butt in, but @Zpeopleheart and Rosiestep: several of us are already posting articles created at Wikipedia:Meetup/Women in Red/3#Outcomes. Please feel free to add yours. :) SusunW (talk) 16:16, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

World Virtual Edit-a-thon on Women in Architecture

  • Dates: 15 to 25 October 2015
  • Location: Worldwide/virtual/online event
  • Host/Facilitator: Women in Red (WiR): Did you know that only 15% of the biographies on Wikipedia are about women? WiR focuses on "content gender gap". If you'd like to help contribute articles on women and women's works, we warmly welcome you!
  • Sponsor: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in association with Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation, Women in Design, and Wikiproject Women Wikipedia Design
  • Event details: This is a virtual edit-a-thon hosted by WiR in parallel with a series of "physical" Guggenheim edit-a-thons. It will allow all those keen to improve Wikipedia's coverage of women in architecture and design to participate. The campaign aims to further the goals of Ada Lovelace Day for STEM, and Art+Feminism for art, in a field that by its nature combines both. As the virtual edit-a-thon stretches over a week and a half, inexperienced participants will be able to draw on the assistance of more experienced editors while creating, translating or improving articles on women who are (or have been) prominent in this field. All levels of Wikipedia editing experience are welcome.
  • RSVP and learn more: →here←
I'm posting this on your page, Rosie, for the 100 or so people who regularly look in. But of course you are most welcome to contribute too, once you recover from your vacation!--Ipigott (talk) 14:07, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

Maybe you and your colleagues can help expand this a bit. A new editor, Papernpencils2015, is writing up an article on the Fort Worth Circle (User:Papernpencils2015/sandbox) and this is one of the artists mentioned in it. There's a few more, of at least some regional notability. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 16:06, 15 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi @Drmies. Thanks for pointing it out. I've expanded VH a bit. But I'm really keen on the Fort Worth Circle article, currently in sandbox. Hope it moves to mainspace soon. I think it's covering something interesting and important. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:10, 16 October 2015 (UTC)

Psst....you know I'm already married, right? I hope Mrs. Drmies isn't reading this and misunderstanding it. Drmies (talk) 17:46, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
@Drmies: I'm either speechless or LMAO. You choose! --Rosiestep (talk) 17:52, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
No, you choose--a lesson learned from The Wife of Bath's Tale. This weekend we did many homely things; Mrs. Drmies was at work all Saturday and out at night with her girlfriends so I had to play papa. Today we did middle-class things like cleaning out the shed and stuff: it is my sworn male duty to deal with the rats I ran into. Yuk. And some job openings came up so I had to rewrite my standard cover letter and update the old resume. In other words, not much wiki time. You were suggesting I look into expanding the article some? Cause I need to rebuild that shed but can't afford to fly in an architect from Germany.

About that shed: this house was formerly owned by Wayne Greenhaw. In the shed I discovered a poster from some election, I guess in the 1980s: his wife, Sally, had run for office, some position as a judge. So she must have gone through law school maybe in the 1960s or 1970s, and had the moxie to run for judge when her husband was a white Alabamian writing critically about the South's political racial heritage. Cool beans. Drmies (talk) 03:53, 19 October 2015 (UTC)

Oh, guess what, she won. (And graduated 1964--from my alma mater). So I guess she's notable... Drmies (talk) 03:55, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
@Dear Mrs. Drmies: please ignore my comment about Kristin Feireiss. She's probably not so interesting after all. As for Sally Greenhaw, I'm not convinced that she's very interesting either. Hope you had a fun girls' night out. I know when I do it with my girlfriends, I always have a blast! As for husbands and rats, we're on the same page. My husband is in charge of rats, bats, spiders, wasps and anything else that freaks me out. Cheers, --Rosiestep (talk) 04:16, 19 October 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women

I was asked to look into your comment here. What exactly does being an admin have to do with you reporting someone to ANI? --NeilN talk to me 19:59, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

It doesn't have anything to do with it. What she's saying is that she's an admin yet has never been involved in filing an ANI but would report him if he didn't back off, which basically says how irritating he was being that she'd have to do it. If this is a "abuse of admin tools" investigation please go away NeilN as it's not about that. clearly. You;d have a point perhaps if she'd said "I'm an admin and I will have to block you if you persist", but she said nothing remotely like that.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:13, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

Dr. Blofeld, has Rosiestep confirmed you can speak for her in all matters? --NeilN talk to me 21:18, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
I can spot trouble when I see it. Rosie is the last person to act in the way Calvin suggests. Calvin was starting to become offensive with his comments on the women project, and there is considerable passion involved in running it. Basically if you want to keep the peace ask Calvin to quietly leave the show and get on with something constructive. We've all been perfectly patient and reasonable with him.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:24, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
I'll look for Rosie's response, thanks. --NeilN talk to me 21:26, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
Dr. Blofeld, telling me to "back-off" after two comments just because she doesn't agree with me is not a good enough reason to threaten to report me and describe me as her "number-one" person to report. That is not admin-model behaviour. You made this comment here about asking me to "leave the show" at 22:24, but I haven't made a comment on the WP talk page since 21:16 (over an hour before). In fact, you was the last person to comment there. Please stop with your patronising tone.  — Calvin999 22:06, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Speaking as someone who has chosen not to be a member of the project in question, as per the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women#WikiProject Men, and who himself saw that the comments made by Calvin888 could only with extreme difficulty not be seen as, basically, disruptive at best, I guess I could say that if the comments were to have continued I might have filed a report against you myself, based on your assumptions about the project and the editors involved in it, and particularly your comments which seemed to put your own opinion about what projects should and should not exist first, even before those of the individuals involved in the project directly. John Carter (talk) 22:16, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
What assumptions? I don't believe I made any direct personal comments at any one individual or group of people? I think some people just took things way too personally as thing against them. I was only ever talking about the WP. I don't see how me using the talk page saying I don't see the point of its creation is disruptive? It's not like I've asked for it to be deleted, I haven't removed the WP from any articles etc. Me thinking it is a pointless WP that I don't think brings anything to the table and is too broad is not a worthy reason for reporting me. I think your reasoning is a bit unfounded to be honest. It's Rosiestep who has made bad faith threats to me.  — Calvin999 22:22, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
@NeilN: hi there. Sorry for the delay in responding; I was being Skype interviewed by the University of Virginia regarding content gender gap. And then numerous edit conflicts. You asked for my response. Here it is. I perceived that Calvin had made a comment which offended me ("Wikiproject Women is almost anti-male editors."), and I worried it offended others, and I called him out on it. I am an admin so I am aware of Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents but I do not assume that others are aware of it, or that I have never gone to ANI with a complaint before. As for Calvin's point of view about the particular Wikiproject being unnecessary, he is entitled to that opinion. I did nothing to silence it ("Please choose instead to keep your discussions here using safe-space tone.") but I did offer a one sentence clarification to what WikiProject Women is about ("As it may be unclear to you, the scope of this project is to provide an umbrella over several women-focused projects; nothing wrong with that."). I invited Calvin to participate in the project if he wished, I thanked him for the editing he does, and let him know I'd be glad to work alongside him on women's biographies ("And keep up the good work editing women's biographies! Know that you are warmly welcome to join this Wikiproject or work alongside us, as that's what we do here... create/edit women's biographies."). Calvin's response seemed to imply that I misunderstood his post and I responded, "If you believe I misunderstood you, then perhaps you can see how you misunderstood me? ... We can agree to disagree, but I did not mean for hard feelings between us; hope you feel the same." --Rosiestep (talk) 22:28, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
No, you threatened to report me then praised me for my work in the following sentence. That is not nice or kind. Further, if you feel that my comment "Wikiproject Women is almost anti-male editors" is offensive to you and others you speak on behalf of (despite it being my opinion, and yes, I would feel uncomfortable with joining) then I think this is just a case of you being too sensitive, because that is in no way an offensive comment.  — Calvin999 22:36, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
Calvin is just being a complete jerk and acting like a troll. comments like "I think this is the most pointless Wikiproject I've seen" are not worth the bandwidth we are wasting here. I think it's time to drop this stick and close this tendentious discussion. Montanabw(talk) 02:59, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Rosie. At this point, Calvin has made views known on the project and I don't think asking for or offering any further details on his part would be of any use. However I think raising the spectre of ANI after two posts is a bit of a stretch, especially as Calvin was essentially told to go away after his first post. --NeilN talk to me 03:28, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
I have so tried to stay out of this, but NeilN I did not tell him to go away. I told him to take the negativity away and join in. Vastly different from your saying I told him to go away. SusunW (talk) 05:22, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
SusunW, I know of no project or space on Wikipedia where criticism or disagreement is not allowed. --NeilN talk to me 05:37, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
Yes, so don't go hassling Rosie then when somebody in that disagreement can't handle the pace. In such cases where there is a direct attack on a project you'd naturally expect people to be less than courteous. As it is I think we were quite polite to him overall and Rosie even invited him to join.♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:27, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
Is there such a space as that anywhere? If so, I don't know of it. SusunW (talk) 05:41, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

NeilN now I'm being called "a complete jerk and acting like a troll" by Montanabw. Notice that I've never called anyone names, but several people are calling me names. These people are quick to fault others but can't see their own faults. This is just a case of people sticking with each other like glue, but I don't really expect people like Dr. Blofeld to be any different, it's not like he would go against his co-founder. He can't even see that Rosiestep was wrong to use the threat of reporting to ANI as some kind of abuse of power to in effect stop me from posting on the WP talk page (which everyone is allowed to do, by the way). In the next breath, I'm being praised for my work. Unbelievable.  — Calvin999 07:46, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

Calvin999 I am sorry that people have resorted to name calling. Despite the appearance that you in as much called all of the editors on the page anti-male, which seemed that you started the name calling, civility should be the goal. As was explained to you many of us do write articles on men, as well as many other subjects, just not for this project. We are not addressing the disparity of women editors to men editors, we are trying to create articles on women. There is no anti-male bias nor any focus on any particular type of woman, as you have seen, we cover artists, architects, musicians, dancers, writers, etc. It was also explained by I think nearly everyone who interacted with you that none of us are anti-male. Would you make a comment on say the LGBT page that their focus is anti-heterosexual? On the Military page that their focus is anti-peace? Would you think those were appropriate comments? All WikiProjects have a narrow focus, by design, so that a specific area can be addressed. You are entitled not to like ours, but we do not have to agree with you that it is pointless. SusunW (talk) 08:36, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

OK, so WP:Women is anti-male and a redundant project and quoting Montana you're being a "complete jerk", that makes it about even. Everybody was totally wrong and should be eternally punished for their wicked deeds. Everybody quickly hug and make up and move on. We'll continue with WP:Women, you continue with WP:Rihanna and everbody is happy. That was easy. Now move on everybody and let's not turn Rosie's talk page into a whole circus show, we must all have better things to do...♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:33, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

Discretionary sanctions

Rosiestep, for future reference, WikiProject Women would fall under the Arbitration Committee's GGTF discretionary sanctions: "Discretionary sanctions are authorised for any page relating to or any edit about: (i) the Gender Gap Task Force; (ii) the gender disparity among Wikipedians; and (iii) any process or discussion relating to these topics, all broadly construed." Pinging NeilN so that he's aware of this too.

If you want to, you can post the sanctions warning at the top of the project's talk page or you can post alerts on the talk page of any editor causing a problem. I've done the former at GGTF, but I incorporated it into the general heading to make it less aggressive-looking (see {{Gender gap task force/Talk header}}.

For any uninvolved admin to take action under the sanctions, the editor must have received an alert on his/her talk page. The talk-page templates are at Template:Ds/talk notice and the individual alerts are at Template:Ds/alert. The "code" is GGTF, which is added to the templates. Hope this helps! Rosie, this article DakshinaChitra is under GA review. There appears to be some NPOV issues as the reviewer has mentioned which I am unable to idnetify. Can you help in editing this pl? I am now doing a few articles on Women architects and created four articles so far. Nvvchar. 15:57, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

@Char: I've c/e it including the NPOV issues, added some imgs and a WikiProject template, removed the advertising template. I think it's definitely improved so I re-assessed it to C-class, but I'm not convinced it is GA quality. That is up to the reviewer, though. Good luck! --Rosiestep (talk) 17:40, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

Dear Rosiestep: certainly, you or one of your co-workers can move this little article forward. The claim of "first female professor of Anglo-Saxon" is based on a tweet and email by Mary Dockray-Miller, a pretty noted scholar of A-S studies--I see some kind soul wrote her up already--and I hope to have firmer evidence of that soon. Thank you so much. 207.93.13.150 (talk) 17:27, 23 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Matilde Ucelay Maortúa, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page University of Madrid. Lakes or something

Hello Rosie, thankyou. I think it's time we're due an A-Z, whatever you and Nvv are up for over the next few days, no rush. We'll be fine unless you open threads about problematic sources on articles we write together complaining about the quality of fish or sediment composition of the lake  ;-) Mr. Nvvchar. Pick an article from the A-Z.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:42, 25 October 2015 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld and Nvvchar: Yes, let's work on an A-Z... a lake, a ruin, or what not. If I'm slow to respond, it's just because I have company at my home for another 2 weeks so I'm online hit and miss. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:52, 25 October 2015 (UTC)

Started Martha Levisman, I'll completely drop things now anyway, sorry if I've been tiring, let's just move on.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:28, 25 October 2015 (UTC)

@Nvvchar: would you be interested in doing an article on some volcanic feature on Mars, Venus, Mercury or even the moon or something? Would make a nice change.♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:58, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

OK, you did a good job with those Antarctic lakes at one time with scientific research.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:47, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
@Dr. Blofeld and Nvvchar: Aren't there a bunch of rivers in Africa which we haven't covered yet? --Rosiestep (talk) 14:19, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
A crater on Mars, Venus or the Moon, with rocky terrain I feel like doing. Nvv is probably fed up with rivers!♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:45, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Perhaps SusunW can find a Nicaraguayan river or something we could do for the A-Z, we haven't done Nicaragua yet or Mozambique. I started a load of Mozambican rivers years back but I know there's a ton more.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:23, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Well, from here List of rivers of Nicaragua the Río Siquia (I should say the ones that have been created are titled like Siquia River), not to be confused with the Argentinian Suquia River, should have plenty of data. There is an EcoPlanet bamboo farm on the Siquia. [19] SusunW (talk) 18:01, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

World Virtual Edit-a-thon on Women in Science

  • Dates: 8 to 29 November 2015
  • Location: Worldwide/virtual/online event
  • Host/Facilitator: Women in Red (WiR) in collaboration with Women scientists: Did you know that only 15% of the biographies on Wikipedia are about women? WiR focuses on "content gender gap". If you'd like to help contribute articles on women and women's works, we warmly welcome you!

How observant! An eye for the I's. But I think we can live with it. I've corrected it on the master.--Ipigott (talk) 09:57, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
@Dr. Blofeld: thanks for catching it. @Ipigott: I think we should template the invite and thank you notifications going forward; and maybe require 3 sets of eyes to sign off on the template before posting them. We are doing great things here, we're moving pretty fast, and we're getting noticed. In my book, this is good. I'll make notes on the /Events page and the /4 meetup page in this regard. Sound ok? --Rosiestep (talk) 15:46, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, Rosie, to have caused so much trouble with this. But in all fairness, the announcement and the invitation were there for all to see for several days before I sent them out. I was a bit taken aback by the change in dates with a start in a week's time. That's why I thought it was important to send the invitations out as soon as possible. I'm glad to see so many people have already signed up. Some have even started to contribute.--Ipigott (talk) 16:13, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
@Ian, no worries. Eight articles already, and 21 registered participants... this is a very promising start. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:41, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
Apologies on not spreading the non-fairuse image farther, the one I used is just a photo of their lobby and doesn't make the topical focus very clear, but if anyone is interested it's here.--Pharos (talk) 18:45, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
@Pharos: I'm glad you're around. First of all, it would be useful to know who else you were thinking of sending the invitation to. I've been keeping tabs on the distribution here. It would be useful to have the names of any other potential participants for future rounds - so just update the list to include those I have forgotten. But more importantly, you managed to do something very clever with our list of red links on Women in Architecture by attaching it to the virtual editathon page and providing access to the latest edits on the articles listed. I was thinking of trying to copy the approach this time too with the red-link list of Women in science and teachnology which has been so expertly developed by Megalibrarygirl. Perhaps you can help us out by setting it up in the same way? And lastly, please apologize to the NY Academy of Sciences for my blatant misregard of the copyright on their logo. Corruptio optimi pessima.--Ipigott (talk) 22:24, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
@Ipigott and Pharos: I put it on these talkpages. --Rosiestep (talk) 01:00, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

ANI notification

There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. A nonfree image was included in Wikipedia:Meetup/Women in Red/4/invitation, which was posted to dozens of talk pages under your signature, thereby violating WP:NFCC, since nonfree images may not be posted to talk pages. I have asked for assistance in removing the violations. This is a pro forma notification. The Big Bad Wolfowitz (aka Hullaballoo) (talk) 05:02, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

Templating the regulars? Seriously? How about just asking to edit the template??? Sheesh! Montanabw(talk) 05:40, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
Absolutely indicative of the inhospitable climate of WikiPedia. Instead of "hey, did you realize?", take it to ANI. SMDH. Frankly, it is disgusting to me. No wonder editors don't stick around. SusunW (talk) 06:01, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
I stick around in spite of the bullshit; we have to remember that if all the content contributors vanish, there is no encyclopedia. Illigitimi non carbonundrum and all that.... Montanabw(talk) 01:34, 2 November 2015 (UTC)
I hear you Montanabw but it is so frustrating. Why does WikiPedia attract so many control maniacs? Would the world come to an end if people were just polite and respectful? I watch a lot of drama and mostly say nothing about it. Laying low usually keeps the stress out of my life, but sometimes I just have to comment. SusunW (talk) 01:44, 2 November 2015 (UTC)
Heh, and **I've** been frequently accused of being an article "WP:OWNer and having a "battlefield mentality" - and of being a control freak! Glad you don't see me as part of th problem! Montanabw(talk) 03:00, 2 November 2015 (UTC)
Agreed, I've commented at ANI.♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:45, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
I don't know why you were notified about this, Rosie. I was the culprit. Thanks to the efforts of Diannaa and Hullaballoo Wolfowitz, the image has now been removed from the invitations and announcements. In future, I'll double check the copyright conditions on logos before I use them in our communications. Strange it took so long for anyone to notice. I first used the logo on 27 October.--Ipigott (talk) 08:05, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
@Ipigott, no worries. And thanks, @Diannaa and Hullaballoo Wolfowitz, for sorting out the solution before I had my first cup of coffee. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:37, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
@Montanabw, SusunW, and Dr. Blofeld: Thanks for having my back. I see the outcome of this as being just fine... more people are aware than ever before of the work we're doing. So (sipping my coffee here) not going to let TBBW put a dent in my happiness or slow down WiR's progress. I was thinking, though, that if the Teahouse hosts were to be in charge of ANI, they'd handle things differently. The note on my talkpage would have said something like: "Good morning, Rosie. That women scientist virtual edit-a-thon sounds like a lot of fun! I'm going to try and add an article or two myself. By the way, there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. A nonfree image was included in Wikipedia:Meetup/Women in Red/4/invitation, which was posted to some talk pages under your signature. I'm guessing you were unaware that this image violated WP:NFCC as nonfree images may not be posted to talkpages. Bethel, Alaska

I know Alaska Native issues greatly interest you. Today there was a devastating fire in Bethel, Alaska, nearly 1,000 miles from my home in Juneau. Bethel is in Western Alaska. The fire destroyed 2 Native schools, and their dormitory. A library that serves as a kind of museum for Yupik artifacts and history was saved. See the History section, final paragraph, in the Bethel article for details. There is pretty remarkable video online of the fire. :( Juneau Mike (talk) 02:07, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

@Mike how awful! Have they figured out or announced the cause? --Rosiestep (talk) 02:21, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

No, they are still putting the fire out... Juneau Mike (talk) 02:23, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

Heat tape used to keep the buildings sewer pipes from freezing is suspected of causing the fire. I just did an update on the article. Pretty sad. Juneau Mike (talk) 06:44, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

Goa State Museum has been nominated for Did You Know

Hello , I've a terrible thing to ask you upon first acquaintance

Would you perhaps consider running for arbcom? I'm working on a voterguide with a very decorative friend, and did some searches on active editors, and your name was in the list of 250 or so that came up. You were specifically mentioned by User:Xanthomelanoussprog as being someone from the rough listing who, if they could be urged to run, would do a good job. I don't know you personally since I don't believe we've interacted before, but after having a brief look at your on-wiki efforts, I would tend to agree. 75.108.94.227 (talk) 22:10, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

Serious? Rosie's gone all this time as a super quiet admin who avoids wiki drama and conflict like the plague because wikipedia is meant to be fun! Jumping in at the deep end and becoming an arbitrator would be astonishing to me, but I certainly do think that if Rosie was serious about it she'd do a great job, I just worry that it would put her off writing content and focusing on the drama. "whining egos and drama" really are an enthusiasm killer on wikipedia.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:09, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

I think Rosie would make a fantastic Arb, although I echo the sentiment that the good (evil) Doctor has. The committee takes up so much time, it would be hard to get anything else done. One must decide one one's one, however. --kelapstick(bainuu) 01:49, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Hollywood Plaza Hotel

Hi Rosie, I took the liberty of expanding your article. I found a very good description of the hotel, but it is a wordpress URL and therefore not RS. Other (reliable) sources talked about Frank Sinatra frequenting the barber shop in the basement and playing gin rummy with the owner. Do you think that would make a good hook? I'd be happy to nominate it. Best, Yoninah (talk) 17:38, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

@Yoninah: Thank you so much for expanding! Had no idea it was a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:08, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Excellent work Yoninah. "The hotel was popular with theatre and radio actors visiting Los Angeles, including Jackie Gleason, Doris Day, Marilyn Monroe, and Edward Everett Horton,[2] as well as top bandleaders like Harry James, Paul Whiteman, and Hal McIntyre." -that's definitely the place then. I believe the book implied it was a sort of music venue with listening to musicians and recordings. I wasn't entirely convinced it was a hotel initially but it's definitely the place. [20] might be a free image without copyright notice.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:47, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Thank you. How do I access upload information for the image? Yoninah (talk) 19:22, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
I'll have to check off wiki, it might be a similar license to the postcards in the Sands Hotel and Casino article. Yoninah, you know I think we could and should create an article on Frank Sinatra and Jewish causes or something like that and go into more detail. He did a great deal over the years. In an earlier version of the Sinatra article I think I covered what he said about certain wars too. I think we could justify an article. What do you think? Unfortunately I've sent back my books on Sinatra now though!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:36, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
Yes, that new article idea sounds good. Here is a rundown of his Israeli activism and support of Jewish causes. Could you direct me to a similar-type article so I can see how it's structured? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 21:04, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
I can't think of any offhand! But if a very high profile celebrity is particularly active in some form of activism then we ought to have a series of articles in my opinion. It would easily stick as an article if well sourced and researched.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:26, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
OK, I'm on it! Yoninah (talk) 21:29, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Hey, just checking in to say I added a new photo. I took it this morning, and put it in the Commons. I then added it to the Mount Juneau page, on the left in the section, "Weather". Click on it to see the full detail. I know you like seeing new pictures. I hope you are well! Juneau Mike (talk) 01:48, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi @Mike! Wow, pretty picture. And yes, I love seeing picture! Looks cold! It's definitely autumn here in LV... have to wear a coat when I step outside... but nothing like Juneau. ;) --Rosiestep (talk) 03:18, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
I'm going to compose a new jazz standard "Autumn in Vegas"!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:37, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
@Dr. Blofeld: You better send me the youtube link after you do! --Rosiestep (talk) 02:15, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
LOL it could be a combo of "April in Paris", "Autumn in New York and "Viva Las Vegas":
Autumn in Las Vegas
Casino chips still in blossom
Poker tables
Why does it seem so inviting?
Viva Las Vegas!
lol.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:07, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

Lol, @Dr. Blofeld! Well, if Sinatra added a stanza to your tune while singing It Was a Very Good Year, it might go like this: --Rosiestep (talk) 15:09, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

When I was 17,
It was a very good year,
It was a very good year
for poker chips
And my fake ID,
My buddies and me,
Drinking booze
And partying hard
On the Las Vegas Strip,
Or was it during my Paris trip
No, it was in New York, I think,
It happened in a blink,
Spring, summer, and fall,
Whatever... I had a ball!

Haha LOL, if you could cram in a mention of Sinatra's "autumn" conflict in Caesars in 1970 and losing his gaming license until Reagan got it back in 1981 even better!♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:19, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

I hope you are enjoying your vacation. You and I have both worked on train wreck articles, so I thought you might want to see this new article I'm just starting on. 2015 Cary train crash. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Juneau Mike (talk) 00:45, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi @Mike. Does this refer to the same accident? (It says the accident was in Morrisville vs. Cary.) Also... the last 2 sentences... I'm not sure if they are necessary... but maybe you're tying them in and I'm just not getting it, which could be as I just got home and I'm pretty travel-weary. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:10, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
Some of the sources list Cary, others list Morrisville. I'm sure that will sort itself out in the days ahead. And yes, I'm trying to connect them, which I will give other editors time to evaluate. I'm going slow here. Juneau Mike (talk) 04:18, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
@Mike, cool! And thanks for creating it! --Rosiestep (talk) 04:36, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

User:SusunW/Pascale Ehrenfreund

I've been working on this all morning. Just went to put a link to the asteroid named after her, 9826 Ehrenfreund and it linked to your page. What do we do? SusunW (talk) 20:11, 27 November 2015 (UTC)

@SusunW: Did not realize you were working on her. I created Pascale Ehrenfreund 6 months after you started your sandbox article. :) If you're ready for me to do it, I can merge the two articles, including their histories, and then the biography can get cleaned up. Are you ready for me to do it now? Note, we're leaving soon to go out on the town and won't be back till late. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:17, 27 November 2015 (UTC)
Totally weird, as I just created it this morning. But yes, go ahead and thanks :) SusunW (talk) 22:28, 27 November 2015 (UTC)
@SusunW: merge completed and minor c/e done. I need to make breakfast for the fam so can't do more -- and the lede needs a bit more -- at this time. Back later. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:11, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
Did some minor changes to the lede, took out our duplicates added some info that was in the lede to the body. I think I liked your original photo better, but your call. SusunW (talk) 18:58, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
@SusunW:... 6 minutes (not 6 months!). --Rosiestep (talk) 19:25, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
LOL. I was going to do the other German one, but my German is really, really rusty. Though I found bunches of stuff "by" the Baroness Dagmar von Cramm, I couldn't find enough to write about her. Thus, I switched to the amazing Austrian. No harm no foul. Just glad she has an article now. Always good to collaborate with you, even if in this case it wasn't an intentional collaboration. ;) SusunW (talk) 19:38, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

@SusunW: me, too.  :) I'm intrigued by something you discovered: "Foing-Ehrenfreund, Pascale (1999). Cosmic Dust (habilitation thesis). University of Vienna." I'm trying to figure out the "Foing" part. Found this. Led me to this. Will continue my sleuthing and see where it takes me. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:42, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

Okay, it is scary how much alike we think. It was why I listed it in her publications as a posssible clue. I have found a bunch of these scientists writing under different names. Usually due to marriages, but sometimes due to translation/errors. SusunW (talk) 19:47, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
@SusunW: Eureka! I'll add it. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:48, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
Woo Hoo!!! I suspected that, but did not know. His biography does not mention her at all. I thought it was weird since they were at CNRS and earned their habilitation degrees in the same year that his name was mentioned. I wondered if they collaborated on their habilitations, but found no evidence. Great detective work! SusunW (talk) 20:07, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
@SusunW: I'm piqued that I cannot figure out what his middle initial, H, stands for. --Rosiestep (talk) 20:13, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

Thank you note for Women in Science

Hi Rosie. I've created a draft thank-you note for Women in Science. This time, I would appreciate having it checked, perhaps by Keilana too, before I send it out. I haven't included any "fair use" logos this time. It's great to see how much was achieved during the month of November: new articles, enhancements, DYKs, and a number of enthusiastic new editors. I'm preparing an extended list of participants which I hope to complete today or tomorrw. I'm still pretty busy getting Jean Sibelius to GA (which explains why I have not created as many new articles as I would have liked). Hope I'll also have time to draft and send out the invitations for Women in Religion. Any offers of assistance? Which other WikiProjects should be approached?--Ipigott (talk) 14:42, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

@Ipigott: Looks good! I'm proud of what we've done! Keilana (talk) 16:24, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
@Keilana: It's been great team work (your WP should have a barnstar) with a growing core of editors who participate strongly in whatever field we choose to address. Combining the efforts of participants in WP Women scientists with those who have participated in earlier WiR editathons has worked beyond all expectations. I've just recorded over 60 active contributors (and have no doubt missed a few). I actually started out as a scientist myself (electrical engineering) before developing an interest in languages and culture. Being a jack of all trades is sometimes an asset on Wikipedia.--Ipigott (talk) 16:29, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
@Ipigott, Keilana, SusunW, and Megalibrarygirl: looks good to me, too. With over 300 new articles, you're right about exceeding expectations. I noticed that RichF proposed writing an article about WiR for some newspaper and it made me Bishops Stortford Book Awardwonder if any/all of you would be interested in writing a piece about the Women in Science event for the "Signpost"? If you're busy with other things, no worries but the success of our latest edit-a-thon (and the others which preceded it) seems newsworthy to me. (Full disclosure, I'm on the Signpost EB in the Personnel/Recruiter role.) --Rosiestep (talk) 03:07, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
I am thrilled with the outcome. Learned about some amazing women. I'll be happy to help in any way I can, if someone wants to write an article, but I am not good at PR. Far better as behind the scenes support. SusunW (talk) 05:39, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
I've added an announcement about the lists of participants on the main page. I think we should be post a prominent link to it somewhere on the main pages so that people can add their names if they have been missed. I know there is a link in the events box but it is difficult to find. I've now counted 70 editors who definitely participated in the Women in Science editathon.--Ipigott (talk) 13:43, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
@Ipigott: yes, I'll assist with the thank you distribution; I'm looking for the participants link you mention. As for jack of all trades, that made me smile. When I started in my MBA program some 20 years ago, we referred to the coursework as just that (jack of all trades). --Rosiestep (talk) 14:35, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
@Ipigott: found the link. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:43, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
Sorry I didn't immediately include a link to the actual document. It could no doubt benefit from some tidying up - maybe in the form of an alphabetical list of names in tabular form, with the editathons each has participated in. But there's no rush. I've sent out the thank-you notes to 70 editors. I included an invitation to participate in Women in Religion. Tomorrow - if I have time - I'll try to send out invitations to other WikiProjects and some of the keener contributors to articles on religion. As for the "jack of all trades", my father was a metallurgist and was keen for me to follow in his footsteps. In Britain, we have to specialize in either sciences or arts for our school matriculation. I specialized in sciences although I preferred arts. Only after a couple of years at university did I move into modern languages. The combination stood me in good stead when I first headed European R&D projects in machine translation (in close collaboration with the U.S. Air Force and other American developments) and later networked cultural applications across Europe for museums, archives and libraries. And now, in my retirement, I have the opportunity to apply this experience to Wikipedia. I seem to remember your parents also pushed you into a field of study which was not your main interest.--Ipigott (talk) 15:32, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
Ipigott It is fascinating knowing the back story. I started in chemical engineering. Was the worst experience of my life, only female in the school in a very hostile environment. I had to work, thus I took a job in a bank. They agreed to pay for my education if I switched to finance, so I did. I worked days and went to night school for 10 years because after I finished the finance degree, I undertook women's and minorities' history. Much later, I undertook independent research in anthropology and law. I have always thought that I have no clue what I want to be when I grow up ;) SusunW (talk) 15:46, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
SusunW Great to know you've finally found something that interests you. And I can see you should have been there from the start! I have a feeling several of us here on Wikipedia have a mixed educational background. --Ipigott (talk) 18:10, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
Heh, I started out in physics, turned out I really, really hate physics, and now I'm hoping to go to medical school! Keilana (talk) 19:46, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
Ipigott, my dad "nudged" me to switch from Cultural Anthropology to a "more practical" major, business, in my Junior year. But I never actually stopped studying anthropology... I've been auditing classes in that field for years. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:17, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

Women in Science piece for the SP

Rosie, thanks for inviting me to write an article for Signpost. While I would be happy to assist, I think it is important that the article should be authored by one of the active female members of the group. I now hear that Megalibrarygirl has volunteered. I look forward to her article. If she needs any help, I may be able to assist. May I just say at this point that I think there should be emphasis on the increasingly constructive collaboration between all those involved, both the formal members of WiR and those who participate in the editathons, many of whom are (not yet?) members. This is all in pleasant contrast to the conflicts which arise all too often in Wikipedia as a whole. I believe most people collaborate because their work is appreciated and they are made to feel welcome. Furthermore, when questions are raised, they can be discussed openly, without reproach, paving the way for increased participation and improved results.--Ipigott (talk) 08:04, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

@Ipigott, Rosiestep, and SusunW: I can start a draft, but I need to know what you think should be included. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 17:11, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
Megalibrarygirl Rosie's list from the other page "Readers would be interested in who organised it, where and when it was hosted, how many people turned up, what sort of people they were (volunteers? academics? librarians?), which areas were worked on; perhaps a list of articles created. Plus photos (NYAS event) if available and there are no privacy issues. Also think about explaining how it was organised, whether there were roadblocks to overcome, who best to approach, how best to advertise it, etc., so that other people can derive some guidance and ideas on how to organise something like this themselves. A "lessons learned" type look back at the event (if applicable); pitfalls to avoid, as well as things that made it a success." seemed daunting.
I guess WIR organized it, but I don't know anything about the NY meetup part. You created lists and community members chipped in, culling candidates from other language Wikipedia articles, Thomson Reuter's Most Cited Scientists List, and the L'Oréal-UNESCO Awards for Women in Science, among other sources. 75 articles were created in the week before the event started and 265 during the event. Subjects ranged from anthropology to chemistry, math to astrophysics, engineering to botany, ecology to medicine and represented women from every continent (save Antarctica). Ian has a list of the participants. Does any of that help? Like I said, I am not good at promo. SusunW (talk) 18:30, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
If the article is to concentrate on Women in Science, I think it would be useful to provide a bit of background on how the project started and how the virtual editathons evolved, initially strongly based on physical meetups but increasingly driven by inputs from the WikiProject itself. The tie-up with WikiProject Women scientists also helped to increase interest. Why not start with a rough draft on which further comments or improvements can be made?--Ipigott (talk) 22:10, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
You know, an outline or timeline would help, too. OK.... it sounds like we need to know: :::::Thanks for all the input, @Ipigott, SusunW, and Rosiestep:. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 22:37, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
@Megalibrarygirl, Ipigott, SusunW, Keilana, and Pharos: I've added to the outline: --Rosiestep (talk) 04:17, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

  5. Why do we think this editathon was so successful?
  6. The next horizon: what's the next big project?
Megalibrarygirl I e-mailed you. Not sure if it is what you want or not. If you don't get it, let me know and I will post it on your page. SusunW (talk) 22:31, 4 December 2015 (UTC)
Megalibrarygirl ditto. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:27, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
@Megalibrarygirl: If it's not too late, I've updated my participation records to include Religion. See also my comments on the WiR talk page. Any idea when the article will appear in Signpost?--Ipigott (talk) 15:21, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
@Ipigott: should be a few days now. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 15:26, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
@Megalibrarygirl and Ipigott: probably Saturday. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:29, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

I like the condensed version, would go further to have a smaller font in the header. We don't need to shout ;) It would fit in one line on my display where at present it breaks before "Religion". We could also drop the kind of redundant "You are invited", and might have what it is first, then "join us". I am no friend of italics but that's just me  ;) Here is my version to drop. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:49, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

Can you or Susun find anything to add on the towers or history?♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:59, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld and SusunW: I'll go the UNLV library tomorrow and see what I can find. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:29, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
@Dr. Blofeld: I thought I'd get to this sooner than I did today. Been a crazy day and off and on power from 1 o'clock on really cut into my productivity. I found a great Forbes article on the Nobu and started, but, we have dinner plans in about 20 minutes. Hopefully I'll have power tomorrow and can do more. Yay! Rosie, if the rest of those towers are anything like this Nobu, they are amazing. Optical scanners on an elevator? Wow, just wow! SusunW (talk) 02:53, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
Thankyou! Yoninah is also doing a good job with it!♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:21, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
@Dr. Blofeld: I went to the Lied Library yesterday thinking I'd hit a jackpot (lol) of info about Caesars Palace but I was a day late. The research librarian said there are books and such regarding Caesars Palace, its history, architecture, etc., but these articles are in the Special Collections section, and Special Collections are kept behind a locked door, only open M-F 8-5 (and those are my work hours). --Rosiestep (talk) 16:43, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
Don't worry, it would sure be good to use books and things though for such an article! Ideally we'd have an article on Architecture of Caesars Palace in nauseating detail!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:23, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
Perhaps you or Susun can find something on the gardens/fountains/pool? I've started Ramón Armando Rodríguez BTW but needs to be sourced!♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:33, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

You may as well move the Caesars Palace article into the mainspace now. Still needs work but it can continue there.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:19, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Done. I placed the sandbox content at the top. I didn't delete anything that was in the mainspace article; it's below the sandbox content. This needs to be resolved, which is why I placed the {{construction}} template on the page. I figured you know better than anyone else what to remove and what to retain. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:43, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, it makes a change from the biographies. I was thinking of starting a grant request for architecture stuff to gradually do among the biographies. Lost houses of Suffolk looks good. I'm working on the Desert Inn at the moment, made some commons uploads yesterday. Dunno if you want to add anything to that. WikiCup 2016 is just around the corner...

Hello everyone, and we would like to wish you all a happy holiday season. As you will probably already know, the 2016 WikiCup begins in the new year; there is still time to sign up. There are some changes we'd like to announce before the competition begins.

After two years of serving as WikiCup judge, User:Miyagawa has stepped down as judge. He deserves great thanks and recognition for his dedication and hard work, and for providing necessary transition for a new group of judges in last year's Cup. Joining Christine (User:Figureskatingfan) and Jason (User:Sturmvogel 66) is Andrew (User:Godot13), a very successful WikiCup competitor and expert in Featured Pictures; he won the two previous competitions. This is a strong judging team, and we anticipate lots of enjoyment and good work coming from our 2016 competitors.

We would also like to announce one change in how this year's WikiCup will be run. In the spirit of sportsmanship, Godot13 and Cwmhiraeth have chosen to limit their participation. See here for the announcement and a complete explanation of why. They and the judges feel that it will make for a more exciting, enjoyable, and productive competition.

The discussions/polls concerning the next competition's rules will be closed soon, and rules changes will be made clear on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring and talk pages. The judges are committed to not repeating the confusion that occurred last year and to ensuring that the new rules are both fair and in the best interests of the competition, which is, first and foremost, about improving Wikipedia.

If you have any questions or concerns, the judges can be reached on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, on their talk pages, or by email. We hope you will all join us in trying to make the 2015 WikiCup the most productive and enjoyable yet. You are receiving this message because you are listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Woman’s Messenger Motor Service

While working away on my woman of the day, am I at 100 yet?, I discovered this gem, Woman’s Messenger Motor Service, which seems right up your alley, and was apparently known as the Red Cross Motor Corps. [23] Though a search produced several articles that mention the Motor Corps, Ruth M. Jefford, Alzira Peirce, SS Mactan (1898), Florence Jaffray Harriman, and mine Julia Lester Dillon, no article on the service itself and I don't see it covered in the Red Cross Article, other than a link to their uniform [24]. Do you think it is worth a separate article? SusunW (talk) 00:48, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

@SusunW: great find, and yes (these sort of moments make me go "yippee")! Must start on it or I'll implode from lack of writing content over the last few days, so le voilà: American Red Cross Motor Corps. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:07, 23 December 2015 (UTC)
The section on WWII could use some work. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:47, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia 15 session

Note: I originally asked this on Meta, but am moving it here in case you don't check there frequently. -p.

Hi Rosiestep, I see you have made (so far) the only session proposal for the West Coast Wikipedia 15 celebrations. Yay! I'm trying to nudge SF planning forward, so I wanted to ask you: is it important to you that this be in some way linked with Seattle, Vancouver, etc.? If so, do you have ideas about how that should work? (One thought -- given that WMF has excellent facilities for Hangouts On Air, you could do it as a Google Hangout with panelists in each location -- and each of the other locations streams it locally on a screen. That format could work either if it's just a local event, or in sync with the other locations. But is that more or less what you have in mind, or something different?) Please note I have created a mostly empty local schedule here: Wikipedia:Meetup/San Francisco/Wikipedia Day 2016#Schedule (tentative). -Pete (talk) 17:37, 22 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi @Peteforsyth; yes I saw it (I check meta daily) but am traveling and couldn't reply right away. But yup, hey, let's pull this together! Venue: is the WMF available on the 16th? That wasn't clear to me. It'll make things easier if yes. Coordination: I think we definitely need to coordinate with @Pine, Pharos, and Kirill Lokshin: so that we're all together for part of the event; plus the LA folks (I'll post something on the FB page as soon as I have a spare minute). I know, too, that Pine would like to talk about coordinating other west coast events, so maybe that time slot I saw towards the end of the afternoon would be fine for that. Facilitation: I'd like to add my name there for introductions or etc. I'll add more here and/or on meta re: Wikipedia15 in the next few days, but it may not be until after the 25th; sorry! Happy holidays! --Rosiestep (talk) 01:49, 23 December 2015 (UTC)
All sounds good! Yes, Slaporte (WMF) reserved the space at WMF. (I've just asked him by email to confirm we have it for the whole afternoon.) I think that, plus several of us confirming our general intentions to work on something, is probably all we need worry about before 2016 :) On coordination -- I'm all for it, but to me it seemed important to first confirm a local desire to do something, before reaching out more substantively. That might all be moot now. I've been in good contact with Pharos, not so much Pine or Kirill -- but I can shoot them a quick message today to update them about our plans. -Pete (talk) 18:20, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

Arkansas Women's Hall of Fame

Arkansas just created a Women's Hall of Fame. I have no idea how to create the template like is on the other WHoF entries. Looking at both Colorado and Connecticut it just looks like any other template. Can you help? Also...Arkansas inducted an organization that might interest you. The Women’s Emergency Committee was formed in Little Rock in 1958 to get schools reopened in response to the governor closing the city’s four public high schools to prevent desegregation. [25] If you can help me with the template, or point me to someone who can, that'd be great. Hope you are enjoying your holiday festivities. SusunW (talk) 20:06, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

@SusunW, created the template, [[Template:Arkansas Women's Hall of Fame]]. Regarding the organiztion, is it this one, Women's Emergency Committee to Open Our Schools? Hope your holidays are nice. We expected snow here in Nevada City but although it occurred in higher elevations (Truckee), none here. --Rosiestep (talk) 00:47, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Thank you! and yes, I think it is that one. I didn't know whether to put it in the table, so I just mentioned it in the article. Will link it. Snow? That's something seen in a post card. It's in the mid-80s here. We are happy with that, as will be my mom, who is fleeing winter next week to come here for a visit. SusunW (talk) 01:18, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
I guess I should have waited until February to do Edith Irby Jones, but I was incredibly surprised there was no article on her. She was legend in Oklahoma growing up along with Ada Lois Sipuel. I also found out there is a California induction that has been going on for 15 years, so I guess I shall add that to my to do list. I thank you for your help, someday I may figure some of this out, but I am not holding my breath. SusunW (talk) 01:24, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
I added the org to the Hall of Fame table (wasn't sure what to write about it so put WEC as a placeholder) and to the template. --Rosiestep (talk) 01:33, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
It took 3 days to do Rhode Island, but it's done. They don't have a separate Hall for Women, but they have a list of the women in the hall. So...can you waive the magic template wand again? Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame Women Inductees SusunW (talk) 01:58, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
@SusunW: Will create it today! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:58, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
You ROCK Rosie! There are some interesting writers in the RI bunch. SusunW (talk) 17:05, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
I finished my traveler Ida Silverman ... 600,000 miles over a 20 year period. I gave her your category as I think she definitely qualifies :) SusunW (talk) 01:44, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
@SusunW: Very cool! Can you imagine a life traveling 600,000 miles over 20 years? Incredible. I'm working on the template for RI Women; hope to finish it tomorrow. Been dealing with some time-sensitive things but enjoying being on vacation! --Rosiestep (talk) 02:55, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
I can, but my husband would absolutely not be up for it. He's good for a week, two tops and then he wants his own bed. Maybe that's why Ida traveled alone. ;) Not to worry, when you get it done, it'll be done. I didn't think it would take me 3 days to build the grid either, but by the time you have to write all that code and input all the references and double check the data, it turns into more work than it first appeared. SusunW (talk) 05:09, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
@SusunW: the template's done! --Rosiestep (talk) 05:49, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
Was just looking at it. It's amazing, love the decades. Now just need to put it on all the articles and make sure they are in women's projects. Mayhaps that's tomorrow's project. ;) SusunW (talk) 05:51, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

@SusunW and Megalibrarygirl: I was thinking what if we moved the women's halls of fame section from the "redlinks by topic" page to it's own redlinks page? This way, they would get more notice on our navbar. And maybe in 2016, we could collaborate with some of the women's halls of fame and get those redlinked articles written during an editathon(s)? Maybe WikiWomen's User Group could be involved, e.g. facilitate coordination with the different state halls, and so on (cc: @Keilana and FloNight:)? --Rosiestep (talk) 22:06, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

Works for me. I work on articles from the halls of fame between editathons and scour them for people to add to the other lists of upcoming events. SusunW (talk) 22:16, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
Works for me, too. I do the same as SusunW: I put redlinks from the Hall of Fames into our own Redlink lists. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 23:29, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
@SusunW and Megalibrarygirl: Ok, let's try and make it happen... a 2016 editathon for inductees into a woman's hall of fame. And see: Wikipedia:WikiProject Women/Women in Red/Halls of Fame. BTW, I created {{Burlesque Hall of Fame}} and learned that this hall of fame is located in LV! After I get back home, I'll make a point of visiting it. Seems like it only has American inductees so I'll ask them about vedettes, having worked on their articles a lot in the last 2-3 years. Maybe they know of some corresponding organizations in other countries. --Rosiestep (talk) 00:12, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
Coolness! I think there are a few other halls of fames I can add too. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 00:15, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
