DYK for Fly Kingfisher Fair Play Award
On 10 September 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Fly Kingfisher Fair Play Award, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the cricket team Chennai Super Kings of the Indian Premier League has received the Fly Kingfisher Fair Play Award three times out of five? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Fly Kingfisher Fair Play Award. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. The article 2012 Luke Pomersbach molesting charges has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Searching for this title will find the players page regardless. Coverage of the case falls under WP:ROUTINE and WP:NOT#NEWS. No ongoing legal precedents or rulings - it was settled prior to trial. No enduring notability.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. The-Pope (talk) 00:24, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

I am confused.
I see there the Armed forces act (BTW, in July 1990 Indian Armed Forces were given special powers) is mentioned in the article Human rights abuses in Jammu and Kashmir before 1989 insurgency (that spurred ethnic cleansing of Hindus and Sikhs and in turn resulted in the controversial act being extended in that region), why is it so??? Hi Vibhijain. I'm leaving you this message because you have previously been involved as an adopter with Wikipedia's Adopt-a-user program. A clean-up of this program is currently underway, and as part of the process I am trying to find out who is and isn't still interested in remaining an adopter.
If you would prefer not to be part of the adoption program anymore, you need do nothing; when the overhaul of the project is completed your name will be removed from the list of active adopters. However, if you have current adoptees, an active adoption school or an interest in adopting in the near future, then please let us know by signing here.
If you want to remain in the project and can currently take on more adoptees, there is a serious backlog at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user; it would be enormously helpful if you could take on one or two of the users there. Please do keep an eye on the project for upcoming changes, we could use your opinions and your help! Yunshui 雲水 09:25, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi Vibhijain. I'm leaving you this message because you have previously been involved with Counter-Vandalism, and may still be. The Academy project has been restructured, placing responsibility for it on the trainers themselves and as part of the process I am trying to find out who is still interested in remaining as active trainers.
In future, there will be no clerking or coordination, so If you are still active and can respond to requests from students within around 48 hours, you need do nothing until a new student contacts you on your talk page. Nevertheless, if your status changes, please update your entry on the table of active trainers at the new WP:CVUA page. Why did you revert me on List of Indian Premier League umpires? First, it was not overlinking in any way. You should only remove a link if it is a date, non-obscure unit of measurement, major geographical features/locations and everyday English words. I am going to revert you, as this is not overlinking, and an article can be easily made from the link I added. Thanks. Thine Antique Pen (talk) 13:49, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

WikiCup 2012 September newsletter
We're over half way through the final, and so it is less than a month until we know for certain our 2012 WikiCup champion. Grapple X (submissions) currently leads, followed by Sasata (submissions), Cwmhiraeth (submissions) and Casliber (submissions). However, we have no one resembling a breakaway leader, and so the competition is a long way from over. Next month's newsletter will feature a list of our winners (who are not necessarily only the finalists) and keep your eyes open for an article on the WikiCup in a future edition of The Signpost. The leaders are already on a par with last year's winners, but a long way from the huge scores seen in 2010. That said, a repeat of the competition from 2010 seems unlikely.
It is good to see that three-quarters of our finalists have already scored bonus points this round. This shows that, contrary to criticism that the WikiCup has received in the past, the competition does not merely incentivise the writing of trivial articles; instead, our top competitors are still spending their time contributing to high-importance articles, and bringing them to a high standard. This does a great service to the encyclopedia and its readers. Thank you, and good work!
The planning for next year's WikiCup is ongoing. Some straw polls have been opened concerning the scoring, and you can now sign up for next year's competition. As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Regarding IPL players importance
Hi. You marked Rahul Dravid as low importance on WP IPL project. I don't get it. If a designated 'icon player' and a captain of two different IPL sides don't deserve a high importance, then who does? Anyways, if it's general practice at WP IPL to rate players as low importance, then you might wanna take a look at other pages too. Like that of Suresh Raina and Sachin Tendulkar who are rated mid and high importance respectively. Hope you make necessary changes there too. Skagrawal4k (talk) 16:46, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
- See, WP IPL is basically a project to focus on IPL specific articles, and WP Cricket exists for improving players' articles. I somehow what agree with you, and that is why I have always advocated articles about the IPL performance of individual notable cricketers (like Rahul Dravid in Indian Premier League, but this is somewhat many consider as inappropriate. Do remember that WP IPL is a very small project and we guys have to consistent work in order to main its activeness. We have to keep it a little different from WP Cricket so that later it can stand on its own. (I will mark those articles as low importance) ♛♚★Vaibhav Jain★♚♛ Talk Email 05:54, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi Vaibhav. I'm working at it now. I'll give you some notes here as and when I find things.
- You changed "one of the greatest batsmen in cricketing history" into "one of the greatest batsmen in the cricketing history". This is actually incorrect. It's either "in cricketing history" of "in the history of cricket". The latter is preferable because it's a bit more formal, and it supports a good wikilink. --Stfg (talk) 15:05, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

You're welcome. I've gone as far as the "retirement" subsection, but I'm going to stop there. I'd like to offer some advice about style, if you don't mind, and then perhaps you'd like to continue yourself or make a GOCE request. The most important thing I noticed is that, at present, your writing comes across as quite wordy and elaborate. I suspect that this may be partly because many of your sources are newspaper articles and quite popular web sites like crikinfo, where the writing style is chosen to have a certain effect. Examples of the problem are:
- simple verbosity: for example, we don't need "he managed to score 84"; just "he scored 84" says it;
- colloquial hand-waving style: for example, "cross the 10,000 run mark"; simply "exceed 10,000 runs" is far better;
- stating the obvious: examples are all the places where I deleted "later" and "subsequently" because we already know that July follows June and suchlike;
- dramatizing the situation: newspapers can write "He scored eleven fifties, but was unable to convert those to centuries", but to be objective, it's enough to say "He scored eleven fifties but no centuries".
The best way to pick up a good encyclopedic style is to read a few articles on subjects that are not much covered in newspapers and popular or promotional websites. I'll keep you watchlisted for a couple of days in case you have questions. Good luck. --Stfg (talk) 19:07, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
