Hello, I just realized that some of the content you created is copyrighted material. Please see CP and refrain from adding material copied straight off web pages. Thanks, Johntex\talk 02:03, 29 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Me again, I just saw your note at California Space Authority that you are a member of that group. Do you likewise have the rights to repost material from Space Exploration Alliance? I am not sure what the rules are about verifying that users have permission to upload content. In any case, at a minimum, the format of the articles needs to be changed. Wikipedia is not a directory or a listing of press releases. The articles need to be rewritten in a more encyclopedic style. For instance, phone numbers and addresses need to be removed. If you have any question, please drop me a note. I hope you continue to contribute to Wikipedia! Thanks, Johntex\talk 02:09, 29 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
Likewise, I've removed a lot of material from National Space Society. Please don't add large chunks of copy-pasted material from websites; the "in-house" style of another organisation is inappropriate for an encylopedia, and - most importantly - it's illegal. Shimgray | talk | 12:41, 30 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
Hi Spaceport, I've now put comments on both of the items that I flagged saying that I believe the copyvio problems are corrected. It is up to an administrator to remove the copyvio notices and replace the existing articles with the ones you have created in the Temp pages. I suspect an administrator will be along shortly to do this. Thanks for your hard work. Johntex\talk 23:41, 5 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

NSS Masthead

edit

I think you misunderstood me. I did do the research you ask for; I went to their site and confirmed that, yes, that was their masthead image. Then I removed it, because Wikipedia is not the NSS's site... Shimgray | talk | 16:47, 30 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

NSS (again)

edit

I removed the masthead because of potential copyright issues - we're on much safer ground claiming fair use for a logo, so I found one and put it up in order that there would still be an image. I removed huge chunks of text you put in on the grounds they were a clear copyright violation - and, besides that, not encyclopedic material. I removed a long set of categories for the simple reason that they wouldn't be of any use - many of those categories didn't exist, and a lot of the rest were pointless to include the NSS article in, because of the way Wikipedia's categorisation system works. I believe that amounts to the sum of my edits; was there anything else you objected to, so I can explain it? (tomorrow - 4am, must sleep now)

(Yes, I have read Ad Astra; what relevance does that have to the price of fish?)

Please also note that, in future, demanding people not touch an article until it has been reviewed by On High is likely to get people's hackles up. It's not how the project works. Shimgray | talk | 03:11, 1 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your note and for your clean-up efforts

edit

Thanks for the reply back at my talk page. I took a quick look at the articles I had flagged as possibly copyright violations and it does look like you are improviing them for the better. I will look at them more carefully when I hve a little bit more time. (We have a week before anyone deletes the article based on the copyvio notation, so there will be time). Thanks for your work to clean them up! Johntex\talk 00:31, 2 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hi there. I've deleted the content in California Space Authority. If you could provide some evidence that you hold the copyright and can release it into the public domain via the GFDL I'll restore the article's content. --HappyCamper 03:15, 8 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Just got your message - thanks for your due diligence. I assume they will be sending me an e-mail, or posting something to my talk page? In any case, in the meantime, please just edit the "temp" subpage. Once everything is clear, I will actually be moving that page into the main location. During this process, the main article will actually be deleted so there is no need to replicate the page. --HappyCamper 14:34, 8 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
Ah! I see you've been in contact with Johntex. Let's direct all future discussions to here instead: Talk:California Space Authority/Temp - it will be much easier to keep track of everything. Plus, once the copyright problems are resolved, we can move that conversation back into the main article namespace - this will be better for the article as it would give it more grounding should there be any further copyright violation disputes. In the meantime, I've deleted the article in the main page. This is because content on Wikipedia is replicated to a tremendous number of other sites. I realize that a substantial part of it has been rewritten, but I want to make sure that the main article does not have any copyright problems first.
Don't worry though - all the material in the "temp" page will not be deleted; I'll give you ample time to fix it up so that it can be moved back into the main article namespace. --HappyCamper 15:57, 8 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
Do you plan to make any more edits the CSA page? --HappyCamper 00:09, 14 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hi - David Criswell appears to be cut-and-pasted from two sources: here and here. I see others have raised concerns about copyright on previous contributions. Can you prove specific permission to use both of the sources I've linked? If not, as I'm sure you're now aware, we can't take this contribution. CDC (talk) 00:12, 12 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Great. I'm going to move it into the article space now, but I will delete some earlier versions which I think had some questionable content. You did a tremendous amount of work for that article. :-) I'll look at your other contributions in the near future. Web-screenshot tag

edit

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. I've noticed you've uploaded some images tagged with {{web-screenshot}}. This tag is not meant to be used for images that came from Web pages; it's meant to be used for images of Web pages (such as Image:Google screenshot.png, for example). I've retagged the images below as having no license information. Please make sure that Wikipedia has permission to use these images. Then edit the image description pages to include information about the licenses these images are under. You may find an appropriate tag at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags or Wikipedia:Template messages, or if none of these fit you may write a description of the license yourself. You may want to refer to the image use policy. If the use of this image on Wikipedia is a copyright violation, please follow the steps at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion to nominate this image to be deleted. If you have any questions, please feel free to post a message on my talk page. —Bkell 06:27, 31 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Was "Fair Use" also implied when you sent me this image to post on Wikipedia? (It's a moot point anyway, since it's been replaced with more current images - but I wanted to double-check with you).

Image Tagging Image:YoungAstronautPatch.gif

edit

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:YoungAstronautPatch.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. I've unblocked, but especially given that the IP is administered by the US Air Force, I'd encourage you to report problems to an official who can see that the problem is put to a stop. I would venture to guess that such a report would probably be more effective (and less likely to cause you any problems, don't want them to group you in with the vandals) if you make the report, rather than someone from WP:ABUSE. edit

Thanks for uploading Image:AndreaSeastrandCongressionalPicDir104Cong.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 01:28, 9 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source for Image:SLC-6_in_1966.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:SLC-6_in_1966.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then you need to specify who owns the copyright, please. If you got it from a website, then a link to the website where it was taken from with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Wikipedia cannot accept material that is declared to be "non-commercial use only" or "only for use on Wikipedia". Whilst it may seem reasonable to restrict material that way, Wikipedia content is syndicated around the world on the internet and in print, frequently for commercial purposes. Non-commercial or Wikipedia-only content is therefore useless to us. For that reason, such content is marked for speedy deletion automatically and deleted shortly after. For more information, you can visit this page. If you decide to release these images under another licence instead, you need to pick one that is compatible with Wikipedia and then you need to follow the instructions on this page. Note that you cannot restrict images to just Wikipedia or to just non-commercial uses; and you cannot declare yourself to be copyright owner of images you did not create. Fair use rationale for Image:Vonbraun-portrait.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Vonbraun-portrait.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box.   Thanks for uploading Image:NASA dollars boost the economies of every state.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 08:54, 2 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source/license for Image:Photo-11.JPG

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Photo-11.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Thanks for your uploads. You've indicated that the following images are being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why they meet Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page an image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Replaceable fair use File:Delta4@SLC-6WideAngle.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Delta4@SLC-6WideAngle.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. GW 07:17, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Non-Free rationale for File:L5 masthead.gif

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:L5 masthead.gif. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under Non-Free content criteria but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a Non-Free rationale.

If you have uploaded other Non-Free media, consider checking that you have specified the Non-Free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Speedy deletion nomination of File:World chapters map.gif

License tagging for File:Launch Enterprise Directorate.png

Thanks for uploading File:Launch Enterprise Directorate.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. Speedy deletion nomination of Young Astronaut Council

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Young Astronaut Council requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://youngastronautprogram.weebly.com/about-us.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 01:58, 26 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
