Adoption
editI would be happy to adopt you, and I will try my best to answer you questions, although if you are looking for a real expert to quiz, you might want to approach an administrator. Drop me a note to confirm and I'll set up an area for you on my adoption page. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 13:40, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
- I've confirmed your adoption by changing your userbox and replied to your message at your adoption area. In future, you can leave me any messages there and I will leave my reply there so that other adoptees can see it - you might want to watch the page. The adoption page has plenty of advice on it, both general and directed at other adoptees, and I'd suggest having a look at my welcome message for some tips for new editors. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 16:35, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
Linoleum
editThe links to manufacturers of linoleum you added give nothing that could be considered a unique resource that complements the article, see WP:ELNO, they were just two random manufacturers sites. Links like that are considered WP:SPAM and should be avoided. Thanks. Dmcq (talk) 12:16, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- Dmcq -- your point is well taken, and I appreciate the response. On the other hand, though, linoleum (at least in the US) is actually somewhat hard to find (we just got it for our kitchen); there are only a handful of manufacturers who make it. Do you think it might be reasonable to list the manufacturers who do? SeparateWays (talk) 16:09, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- They can always type something like 'linoleum manufacturers us' into google and it'll find some for them. Listing manufacturers or retailers of products just as a useful aid to readers is definitely a no no. There's all sorts of reasons it's a bad idea, but the principal one is that Wikipedia doesn't want to be a battleground between different people advertising their wares. Even with the vigilance against spam it is a real continuing problem and sometimes overcomes an article if it isn't looked after properly, see Wikipedia:Spam event horizon for a semi-humorous take on this. Adopt-a-user interview requests
editHello! I've noticed that you've been posting around requesting interviews about the program. If you would like more information on how the program works, the main talk page has information on the latest cleanup and revamping of the project. The categories that we use to maintain the project may also give you a general idea on how it works. For example, Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user provides you with information on how many people are requesting adoption and how those requests are processed. Most users learn about the program because the program is mentioned in welcome messages, but some may be redirected here from other venues. Regarding the experiences, that might be harder to find, since we're pretty backlogged there. A lot of users are requesting adoption, yet have not tried to find an adopter first. There are also some users that have been offered adoption, but do not respond. If you need more information about the program, feel free to message me my talk page. Added template for SuggestBot
editHi,
Thanks for being one of SuggestBot's users! I hope you have found the bot's suggestions useful.
We are in the process of switching from our previous list-based signup process to using templates and userboxes, and I have therefore added the appropriate template to your user talk page. You should receive the first set of suggestions within a day, and since we'll be automating SuggestBot you will from then on continue to receive them regularly at the desired frequency.
We now also have a userbox that you can use to let others know you're using SuggestBot, and if you don't want to clutter your user talk page the bot can post to a sub-page in your userspace. More information about the userbox and usage of the template is available on User:SuggestBot/Getting Recommendations Regularly.
If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on my user talk page. Thanks again, Nettrom (talk) 19:20, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
