Advertising on user pages

Nimily (talk · contribs) removed the text of the Holly Madison article to put herself there. That's been reverted. But her user page reads like promotional copy. Is there a way to get that speedied? A new contributor who has not received a welcome message.

If we notice that a new contributor has made a positive contribution to an article, and has not yet received a welcome message on his talk page, should we notify an administrator? Regarding the Honda B series engine Article

Please do not delete the B 16 a 2 Rare type x Engine article from Honda B series Section. I was reading about it and it was gone. It is a rare engine and it's a very valuable information to have on wikipedia.

Do you think somebody is about to delete this information? It's there, at Honda B engine#B16A2. However, as it stands, the article is entirely unreferenced, and so could be deleted at any time. 2011–2012 Egyptian revolution references

Template:Clear following TOC rather than before it

I made some changes to Mr. Basketball USA yesterday. I want to partly revert. What I did was remove the because it was pushing the TOC down. Then I had to move the Winners section image gallery to the left. Can we make the clear command ignore the TOC so it does not shift it down. Misleading but referenced information

Recent edits on Americana are referenced but none the less are highly misleading, contradicting main definitions elsewhere, as well as unbalancing an article that tends to attract unbalanced contributions. I've posted a comment on the talk page but with some 600 hits a day, I feel some kind of tag on the article itself is appropriate., I can't find a page with a list of tags and Refimprove isn't right since there are refs. Not so free

I have a problem to report. Wikipedia is too crambed with rules. EITHER ITS FREE OR ITS NOT!

My edits were neither vandalism or clutter and I'd appreciate if Wikipedia steered toward a fun, interactive site again.

After a search I guess the post is about List of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats players#Other Players 1970s which says "circa-1970…78". Do you have a published reliable source for 1968? Article Locked-in syndrome#Catherine O'Leary

Good Morning,

I had edited a submission entry about the story of my sister Catherine O'Leary who suffers from Locked in Syndrome which was online at Locked-in syndrome#Catherine O'Leary . I didn't write the original story however there were some errors on this which I needed to correct , as there was wrong information being displayed and for legal reasons had to be changed.

Upon doing this a few days ago, the entire paragraph was removed, which I find completely unfair. and im not sure how to proceed.

The trouble is that we have no way of knowing that Catherine O'Leary even exists, without reference to some reliable source such as a newspaper; that's why the passage was removed as "unsourced". Help with infobox

Hello,

The error was that years had been included in the parameters for date_start and date_end, but Template:Infobox former country says they're not needed. They get picked up from year_start and year_end. I've fixed it. - David Biddulph (talk) 10:21, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguating two books with identical title

There exist the page Fermat's Last Theorem (book), with a redirect from Fermat's enigma. This article is about a Simon Singh book, but someone has pointed out there exists another book of identical title. Obviously the title has been disambiguated from the actual theory fairly successfully, but I'm not clear on the usual format for Disambiguating two books with the same title. Due to the overall length of the 2011–2012 Egyptian revolution article I wanna create an timeline article which hosts the timeline events under the presidency of Mohamed Morsi as described here 2011–2012_Egyptian_revolution#Under President Mohamed Morsi. My problem is the title for this article. Is "2011–2012 Egyptian revolution - Post revolution timeline under Mohamed Morsi" appropriate or is "Post revolution timeline of the 2011–2012 Egyptian revolution" better? Creating a page for something with a similar name - disambiguation, redirects and verbose page names

Hi,

I want to create a new page for a regional tourist attraction that is currently being constructed in Brockville, Ontario, Canada. They are naming the facility The Aquatarium.

There is a current page called The Aquatarium that refers to a now-defunct aquarium facility in St. Pete Beach Florida. There is also a redirect page called Aquatarium that redirects here.

Seeking advice on how to proceed. Obvious first step is to create a verbose name for my new page (i.e. "The Aquatarium (Brockville, Ontario, Canada)" or "The Aquatarium (The 1000 Islands)")

What would the protocol be for changing the name of the existing page name for the Florida facility? Is it a first-come-first-served sort of idea.. like domain names? Obviously we can add a hatnote to the Florida Aquatarium page to link to the new article, but who decides in a case like this which is the primary topic?

I doubt that there will be a third instance of Aquatarium added to Wikipedia anytime in the foreseeable future, so I don't think that a disambiguation page is called for. --Smg669 (talk) 15:31, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Unless one of the two facilities can reasonably claim far greater notability, it'll need to be a disambig page that shows visitors the two options. See WP:DISAMBIG, especially WP:PRIME. Tom Hatton avoiding redirect

Hello there, I am looking to keep people informed about the development of Tom Hatton (actor and New Media producer) and it is important for the page not to be redirected. When searching for 'Tom Hatton', the search is redirected to 'Thomas Hatton'. How can I ensure that when Tom Hatton is typed into Wikipedia, or google, 'Tom Hatton' is not redirected? We have no control over Google. As for Wikipedia, we have two articles entitled 'Tom Hatton', as well as one for Sir Thomas Hatton - which makes the disambiguation page (Thomas Hatton) necessary. AndyTheGrump (talk) 16:22, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

The issue is that because the page is redirecting to 'Thomas Hatton', google is not picking up the Tom Hatton that people are looking for. There are two 'Tom Hatton' articles on Wikipedia - the link to a disambiguation page is necessary. Frankly though, looking at the Tom Hatton (actor) article, I'm unconvinced that he meets the Wikipedia:Notability (people) guidelines (specifically WP:NACTOR), and as such the article is liable to be deleted anyway. Incidentally, I see that you created the article, and you give the impression that you are somehow representing Hatton - are you familiar with the Wikipedia:Conflict of interest policy? You must not edit Wikipedia using another persons account - this is strictly forbidden, see Wikipedia:Username policy#Usernames implying shared use. I suggest you create your own account. AS for the question regarding the redirect, I think that it would be inadvisable, at least until the question of actor Tom Hatton's notability is addressed - I suggest this is discussed on the article talk page though. It was apparently Hatton himself at first, and was passed on to this "Will" person for use in promoting Hatton. What to do

Hello: I have been using WordPerfect for over 20 years. First published Penna. Magazine 1992. Wrote self-published novel 2004-5. Used WP 5.2 for novel and other. Can't find any versions in my home office that I previously used. My eyesight has gotton bad. Only have one eye. Did purchase WordPerfect 11 about a year ago. All my previous files now come up in unreadable manner. What is my best bet for bringing up all word processing in my files? What version should I purchase for home use? I would say, after looking over the editing, it looks like (absent the legal threat issue) that the OP may have a valid complaint. Thanks for reminding me of that, but the deciding factor on why I blocked was the wording of the threat "legal has been notified", which in my opinion, implied that action had already been taken, rather than a threat of it. No, the block is good. But in cases like this, I was just reminding everyone that the block is not the end of one's job. Nothing too mysterious: a lot of companies keep small offices in publicly recognizable places for PR purposes. TCN indeed has a Nashville office, but is headquartered in Deerfield, Florida. It doesn't make good ad copy to proclaim "Live from Deerfield, Florida!" when you are promoting country music, though.—Kww(talk) 17:46, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

What article would spending per death statistics be appropriate for?

I really like this graph and it has reliable sources linked from the blog post it comes from (which has a stodgier version which would look better in an article and isn't likely to be subject to copyright) but what I can't figure out is: what article would this information fit into? To clarify: The OP seems to be referring to File:Irish Guards.png, and he appears to be correct. The image was uploaded by a now-banned user, so perhaps someone could find a better image and upload it over the one that's currently there. Wouldn't the presumed-copyright and fair-use templates already on the page cover this image as well? I've seen folks correct a fair-use book-cover image, claimed to be a first edition but actually not, by replacing it with an image of the actual first edition; and they did so without changing any of the licensing info on the page. Small flag of south korea is removed in all wikipedia.

Hi. i see that all small south korean flags are gone in wikipedia. the code for flag is fb|KOR. i believe it is a template and someone removed south korean flag. i don't know how to fix it.

if you check any sports event that represent anything about south korea, only blank shows up.

All the new content is gone?!

Hello, I spent several hours editing a page with relevant current content and now ALL the content is gone? I linked to relevant and appropriate newsworthy articles, notable associated people and yet everything was taken down?

I don't understand?

Please advise as this seems to defeat the purpose of allowing people to make edits... *Please note, the content on the current page is completely out of date and I was just updating it with factual information as well as current information to keep it relevant.

What article are you referring to? You've made lots of edits to Rona Elliot and that page is still there. RudolfRed (talk) 23:24, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Your edits to Rona Elliot can be seen in the page history by clicking the "View history" tab to get [1]. User talk:Blanche323#October 2012 explains the reversion of your edits was made by an automated bot in response to the addition of YouTube links. Experience indicates that if new editors add YouTube links then the links usually fail Wikipedia:External links. Experience also indicates that other edits made sequentially by the same editor usually have problems as well, so the bot reverted all your edits. This may seem heavy-handed but the content can still be found in the page history, and I do see problems with your edits. Wikipedia has a policy about neutral point of view but you sound like you are promoting the subject and may have a conflict of interest. Are you connected with Rona Elliot? I believe that, whatever its "reasons", the automated bot got this right. The article is now a useful account of Rona Elliot's career. Whereas phrases like "In an illustrious career highlighted by ..." give readers the impression that they are just reading advertising hype. Maproom (talk) 09:39, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Help: Ira Cook page - need to re-write to eliminate copyrighted information.

I had done some re-writing of the main article I found information on, but too much of the information is still verbatim from said site. I need help re-writing the article "in 'my' own words". I did a cut and paste of the information originally on the main Article page to the Talk so that I could begin editting and moving pieces back, so that the page doesn't flag as copyright infringement.
