for Trinity Railway Express and upcoming TEXRail services - as they are independently operated, but under one agency. the "tre" switch could probably be repeated in the | dart section, as it is jointly operated.

Changes are in line with the Philippines' Department of Transportation numbering based on documents since July 2017. The following changes are: No more LRT/MRT in short names, Line # or simply # only. Makati Subway is Line 5, Mega Manila Subway is Line 9, PNR East-West Rail is Line 8, and PNR North-South Commuter Rail is added. Also Line 9 aka Metro Manila Subway is Maroon on initial maps. Changes to Ottawa:

  • Change O-Train from wordmark logo to commonly-used "O" icon.

From this:

  | otrain =

to this:

  | otrain ={{#switch: {{lc:{}}}
    | #default =
    }} {{#switch: {{lc:{}}}

    | trillium | 2 =
    }}
  • Add icons for OC Transpo buses and transitway.

Add this:

  | transitway =
  | bus =

I've compared the live template with the sandbox, using the "sandbox diff" link in the box at the top. You seem to be asking for many more changes than relate directly to Ottawa. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:13, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
I see that now. However, the only changes I have made to the sandbox were the ones directly related to Ottawa, which I listed above. The other sandbox changes have been made by others not related to this edit request. I'm new to this process, so is there anything I need to do with relation to the sandbox so that only the changes I am requesting are shown? UmpireRay (talk) 20:25, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
Start off by synchronising the sandbox with the live template. This is normally done by copying all of the code from the live template to your clipboard; but since the page is protected, you may believe that you cannot copy the live code - but you can. On the live template page, you should see a "View source" tab at the top; click that. You get an edit window with a grey background instead of the normal white; below it there is no place to enter an edit summary, and no buttons for publish changes, etc. Click somewhere in that grey edit window, then use Ctrl+A to select all of its contents and Ctrl+C to copy. Then edit the sandbox, blank out all of the existing code and paste in the code from your clipboard, without altering it in any way; use an edit summary like "Synchronise from live template" and save this. Then make your changes to the sandbox and save. In this way the examples on the testcases page will highlight the effect of your changes alone, and not be affected by any pre-existing differences between live and sandbox. Since the sandbox will then contain only the changes that you desire, it's also unnecessary to paste code blobs into this talk page thread. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:06, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for the help! I have edited the sandbox accordingly. UmpireRay (talk) 23:19, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

Request to update Metro Manila Rail Line Route Box based on official DOTr documents

The official Philippines' Department of Transportation (DOTr) released the official plans [1] for all 9 rail lines plus PNR lines map for Metro Manila. DOTr has put the names only in Lines 1-9. To reflect this, I suggest the following changes so as to simplify the icons similar to how most rail articles show only either a numeric (1) or an alphabet (A) on their routeboxes should they have numerical or alphabet names.

| manila ={{#switch: {{lc: {} }}
  | lrt-1 | lrt1 | 1 =

Add icons for CTA (transit agency) service chicago and for Chicago "L" service chicago as follows:

| l =

| cta =

Add icon for Baltimore Metro SubwayLink service baltimore as follows:

| subway =

The above changes have been made in the sandbox.

Also, it would be helpful to be able to add the word "Line" to CTA services and have it be removable, similar to the way Boston and LA Metrolink are set up. Same for Metra (plus the ability to spell out the whole name). I don't have the skills to do that but it would be super helpful. Rivkid007 (talk) 19:11, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

I know Redrose64 has worked on this template more, but do we regularly do this sort of thing? 10, 10+, and 10E all link to the same rail since + and E are just the "express" versions of the main line. Primefac (talk) 14:29, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
Since September 2018, I do indeed regularly ask for sandbox and testcases. The two main reasons that I do so are both related to the widespread disruption that can be caused by ill-judged edits to the live template. First, an incorrect edit can not only break the template but also the pages that it is transcluded to (currently numbering 25,194) - even if a fix is performed immediately, it can still take hours if not days for all affected pages to render correctly once again. Second, multiple successive edits to the live template will cause pages to be job-queued several times each, again with each transcluding page experiencing some delay. As an illustration, see the edits of September 2018, some of which were just minutes apart. Not one of those edits was sandboxed first, a practice which could have avoided all that disruption; hence why I came down hard at Template talk:Rail-interchange/Archive 2#Template-protected edit request on 23 September 2018. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:38, 9 June 2019 (UTC)

@Redrose64: i knew, i would mess up. sorry . what can i do now? Saha ( talk ) 08:14, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
The first thing to do is to "reset" whichever sandbox you're using. This means to copy the code from Template:Rail-interchange and paste it directly into Template:Rail-interchange/sandbox. Then, make your proposed changes. Note that when you make these changes you are just adding in extra lines of code, but there should be no == headers or anything like that (see for example the differences here when the Leeds request above was made). After you've made your changes to the code, go to Template:Rail-interchange/testcases and make sure your changes work. Primefac (talk) 13:10, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

New York Subway and SIR

Also for the attention of @LRG5784 and Epicgenius:

On 6 and 7 July 2019, I uploaded a complete set of New York City Subway bullets that used the Standard typeface, as it appears on official publicity such as timetables and maps (example, example, both archived snapshots).

I would like to ask if we are in a position to roll out the Standard set, starting with the update of this template: this is because I notice that the Russian branch of Wikipedia has already done so.

Best, --Minoa (talk) 16:10, 18 July 2019 (UTC)

@Minoa: I guess so, but we should create another input for parameter 1, like nycs-standard. Or we can relegate the current set of icons to another input, like nycs-helvetica. epicgenius (talk) 21:14, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
@Epicgenius: I can agree with retaining the Helvetica set under the nycs-hlv switch (shorter is better). I have little doubt that the MTA uses the Standard set when possible, and the Helvetica set is the fallback when (for any reason) the Standard set is not available … although those reasons are drying up with the Standard set now in the Commons! --Minoa (talk) 21:36, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
@Minoa: I guess i can agree with using a shorter code. Currently it's a toss-up regarding which icon is used more. I see helvetica logos on trains, but Standard on maps and schedule. epicgenius (talk) 21:53, 18 July 2019 (UTC)

There is nothing to stop you discussing this template on this talk page - indeed, that is the very reason for its existence. There is also no reason why you should not post neutrally-worded notices (see WP:CROSS-POST and WP:TALKFORK) on the talk pages of relevant WikiProjects (such as WT:RAIL) inviting to discuss here. But an RfC will cause various subscribers to WP:FRS to be informed over the next month of a matter in which they may have little or no interest. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:11, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

  Question: Do the Metromover and Metrobus actually have the same icon as the Metrorail? It may be confusing for multi-modal interchanges to have exactly the same icons, which is why most cities have slightly different icons for different modes and sometimes even lines (c.f. London roundels). Sceptre (talk) 02:59, 16 October 2019 (UTC)

@Sceptre:, @MSGJ: The exact same "M" logo has been used on all three Miami-Dade Transit modes past and present with no variation of color or shape. Miami is very different from other cities in this regard (and not in a good way). Jackdude101 talk cont 20:03, 17 October 2019 (UTC)
@Jackdude101, Sceptre, and MSGJ: Most RDTs I've seen use for Metromover, and rarely see rint icons for buses at all. @MSGJ: Apologies, my initial thought was to have make it so each county that is part of the Eurostar network had code their own code for the symbol (e.g. the UK having and France having ), however upon reflection the single generalised would probably suffice. I will resync and only add the the code for the generalised symbol. As for the HTML comments you mention, I'm unsure which you are referring to; I know I added a number of <!-- .... --> separators between blocks of code referring to individual countries (honestly mainly for distinguishing between where to edit during experiments). but I would appreciate it if you could enlighten me further if there are any other aspects you were referring to. --Jordan8396.ja (talk) 22:14, 18 November 2019 (UTC)

I propose cleaning up calls to MBTA commuter rail lines so that rint can be used more effectively in Routemaps for these commuter rail lines without introducing clutter or repetition. Right now the routemaps use a hardcoded version of the template that is inconsistent and messy to edit (example here). This request is inspired by the template calls of the New Jersey and Pennsylvania commuter rail lines. NJ and PA use abbreviations for commuter rail lines in this template, which might be a good idea here too, but I think this could be a good starting point.

Remove "T" logo and the word "Line" or "Lines" from these routes:

Remove "T" logo and the word "Branch" from these routes:

Remove "T" logo from these routes:

Comment: There's no reason it can't be recoded to omit/add the Ⓣ icon and/or the word(s) Line/Branch, as is done with dart or even the Boston rapid transit lines (boston etc.). AlgaeGraphix (talk) 17:52, 19 March 2020 (UTC)
Seems like a good compromise to me. C16SH (speak up) 19:31, 19 March 2020 (UTC)

Replace Template:Rail-interchange with Revision 947742326‎ of Template:Rail-interchange/sandbox‎ (diff). The changes remove the extra </span> that was present when the 4th parameter was not present, causing the last &nbsp; to not show.    501  (live) vs    501  (sandbox). Two requests actually.

The first is under the NJ Transit heading to replace this:

| brg | bergen | bergen county =<span style="color: black; background-color: #NJ Transit; border-radius: 2px; font-weight: bold; padding: 0 3px 0 3px; font-size:0.9em">BRG</span>

with this:

| brg | bcl | bergen | bergen county =<span style="color: black; background-color: #NJ Transit; border-radius: 2px; font-weight: bold; padding: 0 3px 0 3px; font-size:0.9em">BCL</span>

This would change the output for the Bergen County Line abbreviation to "BCL", which is the abbreviation used by the agency itself, and is consistent with the abbreviations for other lines in the system, such as RVL for the Raritan Valley Line, NJCL for the North Jersey Coast Line, and PVL for the Pascack Valley Line. (Not exactly a fan of "MOBO" for the Montclair–Boonton Line, either, as "M-B" is the most common, but I would want that one discussed first).

Secondly is to replace under the San Francisco header this: s =

with this:

s =

As the article on the Muni Metro's event shuttle service was moved almost two years ago, and the link is an outdated redirect. No need for a template to link to a redirect. oknazevad (talk) 03:27, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

I have been recently working on articles related to the Mexico City Metro, mainly, and other railway transport in Mexico. I have noticed that icons at 20 or 18 pixels are a bit too big for infoboxes or other templates, therefore I think that leaving the icons size at 16 pixels (such as Paris Métro icons would work better.

Also, regarding the Tren Suburbano, the current icon link leads to a redirection instead of the actual article, and the logo already exists but with a different name, so the file name just needs to be changed.

I have copied these changes into the /sandbox. See /testcases here.
Note 1: for |2=fs, file name changes from File:Tren-S-Logo.png (not found) to File:Ferrocarril Suburbano.svg.  Y
Note 2: existing line number images are |2=A, B, 1-9, 12 (through default option).  Y
Edit request now can be "copy sandbox code into live template".
I see no further issues in the tests, but maybe Cocu15 wants to confirm. -DePiep (talk) 14:46, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

As well, do you think it's worthwhile to create images for the route numbers, so something like COSI could look more like Metro Buenavista? Would use the icons COTA uses for its lines, like seen here and here, minus the small print like seen here. ɱ (talk) 21:41, 2 April 2020 (UTC)

Philadelphia icons?

What do we think about using the icons for Philadelphia's rail system on here? The icons can be found in the infoboxes for Market–Frankford Line, Norristown High Speed Line, SEPTA subway–surface trolley lines, Broad Street Line, Trolleybuses in Philadelphia, SEPTA City Transit Division surface routes, and SEPTA Regional Rail. They seem to be copyrighted, but SEPTA's copyright terms say:

(1) the copyright notice appears in all copies and that both the copyright notice and this permission notice appear;

This could permit their use on this template. Thoughts? --WMSR (talk) 20:50, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

Those read like too restrictive for use as free use, and our fair use criteria wouldn't permit such mass reuse as they would see if they were used as the icons here. Even from a practical standpoint, we can't fulfill those permissions as we don't include copyright notices with each use, which a strict reading of those permissions would require. I wish we could, as they would match route bullets used for other cities (like NYC, DC, SF, and LA, but I don't think we can. oknazevad (talk) 20:56, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
If all you wish to use is the icons, that means that we cannot comply with restrictions 1 and 4. Also, even if we included all the text that they require, we simply cannot comply with restriction 2 at all.
Claiming fair use is a non-starter, since that requires "the name of each article (a link to each article is also recommended) in which fair use is claimed for the item, and a separate, specific non-free use rationale for each use of the item" and I really cannot see you filling in several dozen FURs. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 16:45, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
