- I would be very pleased to help you. Do you have a specific article in mind? I am curious to know what brought me to your attention. Kind regards, Gareth Griffith-Jones (talk) 18:38, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
This should be VERY useful to you.
Here. Allows you to search for additional charts. Erick (talk) 20:07, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- Lolz I been knew about this about a couple days ago... I forgot to mention this to you but after I was done with my search I had an important situation in RL. Hopefully this is permanent if not, I was thinking about doing the List of number one Latin Regional Digital Songs chart (2012), List of number one Latin Digital Songs chart, etc before they go into "sub only" mode. Best, Jonatalk to me 23:07, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- Well if it's not permanent, the better way would be to archive instead. Digital Songs are not significant as a stand alone chart because Latin Songs are what you called component charts. They are not notable to add unless for some reason, it didn't rank on the main chart. You can read about them here.
- Yea I did archive them if you had read the article. Well several of Selena's songs never charted on the Latin Songs chart since the release of Enamorada de Ti, which about 4-8 of her songs peaked within the top ten so that's good news =) Best, Jonatalk to me 13:13, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

This too...
I saw |this and |this while checking ref - basically the actress who played Selena's killer in the film has died. I thought the refs might be useful to you somewhere. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 22:05, 6 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi AJona, I hope all is well with you. I'm just beginning the copy-edit you requested on the above article at the ... oh, you know the routine by now! Drop me a line, revert or correct etc if you see any problems with my work. I see that I copy-edited that article in March, but I'll try to improve the language for FAC, which will probably mean using full quotes and i will check the sources where I can. I don't understand Spanish by the way. :-) Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 01:54, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hey good friend =) I don't know Spanish either :/ but the song is an English-language song so it won't be that complicated =) Best, Jonatalk to me 02:03, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks ;-) Some Selena articles use lots of Spanish-language references. I've changed a lot of text, you might want to review the c/e. I've also found one copy of a referenced article that's not behind a paywall, and replaced the 'newslink' url. I'll return later to check the rest of the references to see if I can find publicly accessible copies - it's always good to have refs I can check :-) Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 04:52, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yea but at least they are all free copies, in which case I have to ask fellow editors to translate and if not google.translate is always a good buddy lolz. I just reviewed it and its great! I was wondering why you delink Marvin Gaye in the article, and I'm wondering if the use of "the editor, stated" is a bit too repetitive for FAC? Other than that, its ready for FAC =) Best, Jonatalk to me 15:00, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks :-) I've tried to find other 'free' versions of the articles but could not, so I'll archive the one I found and change a few bits. Yes, 'editor' is overused - if we don't know the authors' names we can just say, for example, "The Houston Times said that the song was nice, but needed a better drummer", or something similar. Most writers aren't editor, but some editors are writers. :-) I de-linked Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross because I thought the links were superfluous, but I'll add Marvin's back because none of his songs are linked as one of Diana's is. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 00:43, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- Well the newspaper did not write the review an editor did but I was wondering if there was an alternative so people at FAC won't bring that up? Best, Jonatalk to me 01:00, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

My convention is; "The Houston Times said that the song was nice", but "Fred Smith of The Houston Times wrote that the song was nice" - sometimes this doesn't work well but mostly it does. I wouldn't say "an editor wrote..." unless the source tells me that Fred Smith, who wrote the article, edits the publication. Acceptable alternatives for 'said' etc, according to WP:SAY are "Said, stated, described, wrote, and according to" - other terms can appear loaded.
I'd like to see longer quotes used - preferably full sentences - in articles where possible; it's so easy to misquote and we can't check most of the references used. But I'm not a FAC reviewer - you can only do as the reviewer suggests and hope for the best. Anyway I'll declare the copy-edit Done and wish you good luck with the review. :-) Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 02:24, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for another outstanding c/e! I have fixed the overuse of "album", linked Leslie Gore since there is no other mention of her, and I have fixed some referencing style per FAC guidelines. The only problem I see with the article (not in your part) is FN#4, since I'm away from my home right now I don't have a physical copy available and I can't see no YouTube videos of it which is odd since there were a couple of videos of the documentary on there :/ But anyways I will submit the article to FAC once FN#4 is addressed so a reviewer won't complain about it =) Best, Jonatalk to me 13:19, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you IMDb =) lolz I found it and add all crew and technical people. I will now submit the article to FAC. Thank you once again =) Best, Jonatalk to me 13:29, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- No worries; I hope it goes well at FAC :-). Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 21:08, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

I kind of lost heart when I started working on the GOCE request queue, but I still intend to do further work on it. WP:DEADLINE comes to mind - a winter project, perhaps... ;-) Baffle gab1978 (talk) 21:21, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

- Hi Gareth, I hope Ajona doesn't mind me posting here. You should use American (US) English for Selena articles per WP:ENGVAR - I noted an instance of 'favoured' instead of 'favored'; it's not really a big deal but it's for FA and as they say at Tesco, every little helps. :-) Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 21:21, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

- Thanks baffle gab =) Also, the mention of EMI Latin is needed per WP:PCR. Thanks for starting the c/e on the article! Best, Jonatalk to me 12:19, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Peer review
Hi. Just letting you know I'm starting a Peer Review at Wikipedia:Peer review/I Could Fall in Love/archive1. I'm pretty busy in real life, so it may take awhile. --Noleander (talk) 18:42, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- It looks like User:Gareth Griffith-Jones has started to make some significant changes to the article: they put a "under construction" tag at the top. Why don't you contact that editor and see how to best proceed: wait for them to finish? have them do the peer review? Let me know what you decide. --Noleander (talk) 18:45, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- Well since you have said that you are busy in RL would it be okay to perform the review after he has finish copy-editing the article? I think it's going to take him another 2-3 days before completion. Best, Jonatalk to me 19:27, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
Missing My Baby (3)
Hi Jona. Sorry I didn't manage to do enough to get acceptance of the prose. I've told THR what I think of his conduct, but there's not much more I can do than that. I do, unfortunately, agree with some of his comments about original research. Just one example: when you say she stays positive, that's an interpretation. I agree with the interpretation, but the words don't specifically say it. I can give other examples if you want.
Some subjects don't have enough secondary sources about them to populate an FA. That's certainly true for some of my favourite subjects. (For example, I'm fascinated by centipedes, but there probably wouldn't be enough to make an FA of any centipede species.) Do you think there's really enough out there to make an FA of this song? My view is that you've done a great job to make a GA of it.
Sorry I couldn't achieve more. Take care. Simon --Stfg (talk) 14:32, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
- That's fine, no matter what s/he says you did a great job =) I just removed that instance and hope you can remove whatever you believe borders WP:OR. I don't believe in the "articles with only subjects which are covered by more than 40 sources" bs, this hurts Wikipedia in general, if its something that a user enjoys and they tell the user their article will never become FA (which is the goal set in mind) that makes the user feel like their subject is not 'good enough' for Wikipedia; loosing a valuable user and yet they still complain about why there is a decline in users on Wikipedia. I have added everything from sources on google.news archives and the liner notes from two albums. If s/he wants to complain about the lack of sources then that's on the user and not myself, furthermore, if its 'lacking sources' then what sources did s/he find that I have yet included in the article? As of now, the article cannot be expanded its at its fullest potential. Best, Jonatalk to me 01:19, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Jona. Sorry about the delay. I wasn't sure there was anything more I could say. The only worry about OR is in the "Lyrical interpretation" section, where already the title raises a concern ... whose interpretation? I couldn't edit the section because both its sources are inaccessible to me, although of course it's easy to find copies of the lyrics. Does the sheet music state that it's in verse–bridge–chorus (or verse–prechorus–chorus) form? I already toned it down a little where I thought the article was getting a bit too excited , and much of what remains is clearly justified by the lyrics, but maybe you need to avoid such things as "she desperately wants to express her feelings to him". I think there you're trying to express the passion of the song, but it feels a bit overdone for an encyclopedia article.
- Here's one way to tackle it, maybe: First, don't have a sub-section, but just add two paragraphs to the main "Composition" section. The first of these could contain a description of the song's structure, such as about the verse–bridge–chorus and the drums etc lead-in, which isn't really about the lyrics anyway. Always assuming the citations support it, of course. The second could give a much more basic account of what the lyrics are about, something like this:
- In the song, Selena sings to her absent lover about how much she misses him, saying that he is "always on [her] mind" and that she feels alone when he is not with her. Three times she repeats "I often think of the happy times we spent together / And I just can't wait to tell you I love you". In the chorus, repeated four times, she sings of wanting to hold him tight and feel his heartbeat.
- Or something like that. Good luck. --Stfg (talk) 13:06, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
- If you see here on a FA song article, that's where that section's heading came from so that's not a problem. I added your example to the article (hope that's okay with you) and will be adding the quotes parameter to all sources for verification. Thanks again for copy-editing the article and hope you have a great week ahead. Best, Jonatalk to me 17:22, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

- "Interpretation" isn't necessarily wrong, it's just that it raises the question. The question may have a fine answer, of course :) Good idea to add quotes for those sources. Have a good week yourself! --Stfg (talk) 18:20, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
- I have now added quotations for all sources (except for the music sheet and the liner notes as they are packed away for my upcoming moving trip, though will promise to add those asap). Thanks for that and best, Jonatalk to me 19:21, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

- I think those may unfortunately be too much, and there may even be a copyright problem. Can you reduce them to those that are essential to support factual statements? I don't think gushing by critics (if you'll forgive me) needs quoting, and some of the rest could be a lot shorter. Best, S. --Stfg (talk) 22:17, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

I Could Fall in Love with You
I think this article has the most potential of all the articles you've worked to become FA. I am also working on a song article to become Featured Article (I Need to Know by Marc Anthony). Maybe a little competition to see which of us can get a Latin song article to become FA? Of course you have a huge head start over me! XD Erick (talk) 22:12, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
- Awww thanks, but its thanks to the editor who is currently copy-editing the article. The prose is just outstanding! Anywho, "Missing My Baby" is actually at FAC already lolz but at its rate one user does not believe it will become a FA because its not a "long article". WikiCup 2012 August newsletter
The final is upon us! We are down to our final 8. A massive 573 was our lowest qualifying score; this is higher than the 150 points needed last year and the 430 needed in 2010. Even in 2009, when points were acquired for mainspace edit count in addition to audited content, 417 points secured a place. That leaves this year's WikiCup, by one measure at least, our most competitive ever. Our finalists, ordered by round 4 score, are:
- Grapple X (submissions) once again finishes the round in first place, leading Pool B. Grapple X writes articles about television, and especially The X-Files and Millenium, with good articles making up the bulk of the score.
- Miyagawa (submissions) led Pool A this round. Fourth-place finalist last year, Miyagawa writes on a variety of topics, and has reached the final primarily off the back of his massive number of did you knows.
- Ruby2010 (submissions) was second in Pool B. Ruby2010 writes primarily on television and film, and scores primarily from good articles.
- Casliber (submissions) finished third in Pool B. Casliber is something of a WikiCup veteran, having finished sixth in 2011 and fourth in 2010. Casliber writes on the natural sciences, including ornithology, botany and astronomy. Over half of Casliber's points this round were bonus points from the high-importance articles he has worked on.
- Cwmhiraeth (submissions) came second in Pool A. Also writing on biology, especially marine biology, Cwmhiraeth received 390 points for one featured article (Bivalvia) and one good article (pelican), topping up with a large number of did you knows.
- Muboshgu (submissions) was third in Pool A. Muboshgu writes primarily on baseball, and this round saw Muboshgu's first featured article, Derek Jeter, promoted on its fourth attempt at FAC.
- Dana Boomer (submissions) was fourth in Pool A. She writes on a variety of topics, including horses, but this round also saw the high-importance lettuce reach featured article status.
- Sasata (submissions) is another WikiCup veteran, having been a finalist in 2009 and 2010. He writes mostly on mycology.
However, we must also say goodbye to the eight who did not make the final, having fallen at the last hurdle: GreatOrangePumpkin (submissions), Ealdgyth (submissions), Calvin999 (submissions), Piotrus (submissions), Toa Nidhiki05 (submissions), 12george1 (submissions), The Bushranger (submissions) and 1111tomica (submissions). We hope to see you all next year.
On the subject of next year, a discussion has been opened here. Come and have your say about the competition, and how you'd like it to run in the future. This brainstorming will go on for some time before more focused discussions/polls are opened. As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Hello, AJona1992. This is a courtesy notice that the copy edit you requested for List of Selena songs at the Guild of Copy Editors requests page is now complete. All feedback welcome! Craig Samson (talk) 20:04, 12 September 2012 (UTC) |
- Greetings! I found your c/e request on GOCE's list and edited the article (I didn't visit this page until afterward, and hadn't realized another member of GOCE had previously edited the article). So, you have another round of copyediting. Hopefully, two editors are better than one in this case and the result pleases you! Take care, Craig — Preceding unsigned comment added by cwsamson (talk • contribs)
- Thanks for copy-editing! However, per WP:LEAD the article's lead section should only be a maximum of four (4) paragraphs. Can you clean that up please? Best, Jonatalk to me 21:58, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
- Done. I combined the various paragraphs into three, which seemed fairly logical and visually balanced them nicely. Let me know if you find anything amiss or if there's anything else I can do. Cheers! --Craig Samson (talk) 15:06, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

- Whatever happened to "Buenos Amigos"? I don't mind working with you on that one, just when you are not busy :D Best, Jonatalk to me 04:43, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hmm, well I already tried looking for information that would very valuable, but as the old is very old and not as well-known as her other songs, it's quite hard. :( I replied on the talk page for Tu Solo Tu. In case you didn't see it, I basically said that it's okay to just focus on Selena's version because only her version was released as a single and ranked on a music chart. For Costumbres, I thought since you don't know much about other Latin singers, I could provide background information on the talk page. Erick (talk) 04:58, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
- So would it be best to just merge what we got into the main space and nominate it together for a DYK? I doubt the article is too short for a GA nomination, to say the least. Yea I saw it, but I was a bit upset about something on Wikipedia and didn't want to reply and plus I won't go back to that article until I get some lists featured :D Best, Jonatalk to me 05:04, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
- Also it's not that I don't know them, I know a lot about Latin singers (like if it is played on the radio I can distinguish it) just lack the information about them =D Best, Jonatalk to me 05:06, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Oh, erm, forgive me, haha. For some reason, I like looking for old/ancient information for songs and I don't know why. XD Well I guess I can post information about them for now on the talk page and when the time comes, you'll already have the information. You know, I finally started on working articles related to Cristian Castro. You probably already saw Viva el Príncipe as a GAN, I just finished up Nunca Voy a Olvidarte which is waiting for a copy-edit, and now I'm testing out "No Podrás" to see if it works out. WikiCup 2012 September newsletter
We're over half way through the final, and so it is less than a month until we know for certain our 2012 WikiCup champion. Grapple X (submissions) currently leads, followed by Sasata (submissions), Cwmhiraeth (submissions) and Casliber (submissions). However, we have no one resembling a breakaway leader, and so the competition is a long way from over. Next month's newsletter will feature a list of our winners (who are not necessarily only the finalists) and keep your eyes open for an article on the WikiCup in a future edition of The Signpost. The leaders are already on a par with last year's winners, but a long way from the huge scores seen in 2010. That said, a repeat of the competition from 2010 seems unlikely.
It is good to see that three-quarters of our finalists have already scored bonus points this round. This shows that, contrary to criticism that the WikiCup has received in the past, the competition does not merely incentivise the writing of trivial articles; instead, our top competitors are still spending their time contributing to high-importance articles, and bringing them to a high standard. This does a great service to the encyclopedia and its readers. Thank you, and good work!
The planning for next year's WikiCup is ongoing. Some straw polls have been opened concerning the scoring, and you can now sign up for next year's competition. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hello Ajona. Until your other Selena list gains substaintial support, you shouldn't nominate another FLC, so I've removed this one for the time being. Feel free to renominate it as soon as the other list has some solid support. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:47, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

I'd hate for it not to be approved, given the work you've done on the article. When you do respond, please be sure to monitor the template for subsequent additions that may also require your attention. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:16, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

WikiCup 2012 October newsletter
The 2012 WikiCup has come to a close; congratulations to Cwmhiraeth (submissions), our 2012 champion! Cwmhiraeth joins our exclusive club of previous winners: Dreamafter (2007), jj137 (2008), Durova (2009), Sturmvogel 66 (2010) and Hurricanehink (2011). Our final standings were as follows:
- Cwmhiraeth (submissions)
- Sasata (submissions)
- Grapple X (submissions)
- Casliber (submissions)
- Muboshgu (submissions)
- Miyagawa (submissions)
- Ruby2010 (submissions)
- Dana Boomer (submissions)
Prizes for first, second, third and fourth will be awarded, as will prizes for all those who reached the final eight. Every participant who scored in the competition will receive a ribbon of participation. In addition to the prizes based on placement, the following special prizes will be awarded based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, the prize is awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round.
- The featured article award goes to Grapple X (submissions), for four featured articles in the final round.
- The good article award also goes to Grapple X (submissions), for 19 good articles in the second round.
- The list award goes to Muboshgu (submissions), for three featured lists in the final round.
- The topic award goes to Grapple X (submissions), for three good topics (with around 40 articles) in round 4.
- The did you know award goes to Cwmhiraeth (submissions), for well over 100 DYKs in the final round.
- The news award goes to ThaddeusB (submissions), for 10 in the news items in round 3.
- The picture award goes to Grandiose (submissions), for two featured pictures in round 2.
- The reviewer award goes to both Ruby2010 (submissions) (14 reviews in round 1) and Grandiose (submissions) (14 reviews in round 3).
- Finally, for achieving an incredible bonus point total in the final round, and for bringing the top-importance article frog to featured status, a biostar has been awarded to Cwmhiraeth (submissions).
Awards will be handed out in the coming days; please bear with us! This year's competition also saw fantastic contributions in all rounds, from newer Wikipedians contributing their first good or featured articles, right up to highly experienced Wikipedians chasing high scores and contributing to topics outside of their usual comfort zones. It would be impossible to name all of the participants who have achieved things to be proud of, but well done to all of you, and thanks! Wikipedia has certainly benefited from the work of this year's WikiCup participants.
Next year's WikiCup will begin in January. Currently, discussions and polls are open, and all contributions are welcome. You can also sign up for next year's competition. There will be no further newsletters this year, although brief notes may be sent out in December to remind everyone about the upcoming competition. It's been a pleasure to work with you all, and we hope to see you all in January! J Milburn (talk • email) and The ed17 (talk • email) 00:10, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (File:Selena09.jpg)
Thanks for uploading File:Selena09.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Selena
Yes, I'm more than happy to work on the article again. I just compared the Selena article to the Aaliyah article, and length wise it is sad, though they both had very similar careers, and young and tragic deaths. The Aaliyah article is one of those deteriorating FAs that might go to WP:FAR soon, but still, I don't want the Selena article to meet WP:FAR as well. But there has been so many projects that I started and not completed and I want to finish again, not to mention gathering of sourcing and so forth, I probably won't be the main writer in this. WikiCup 2013 starting soon
Hi there; you're receiving this message because you have previously shown interest in the WikiCup. This is just to remind you that the 2013 WikiCup will be starting on 1 January, and that signups will remain open throughout January. Old and new Wikipedians and WikiCup participants are warmly invited to take part in this year's competition. (Though, as a note to the more experienced participants, there have been a few small rules changes in the last few months.) If you have already signed up, let this be a reminder; you will receive a message with your submissions' page soon. Please direct any questions to the WikiCup talk page. Thanks! WikiCup 2013 January newsletter
Signups are now closed; we have our final 127 contestants for this year's competition. 64 contestants will make it to the next round at the end of February, but we're already seeing strong scoring compared to previous years. Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) currently leads, with 358 points. At this stage in 2012, the leader ( Grapple X (submissions)) had 342 points, while in 2011, the leader had 228 points. We also have a large number of scorers when compared with this stage in previous years. 12george1 (submissions) was the first competitor to score this year, as he was last year, with a detailed good article review. Some other firsts:
- 12george1 (submissions) was also the first to score for an article, with the good article Hurricane Gordon (2000). Again, this is a repeat of last year!
- Buggie111 (submissions) was the first to score for a did you know, with Marquis Flowers.
- Spencer (submissions) was the first to score for an in the news, with 2013 Houphouët-Boigny stampede.
- Status (submissions) was the first to score for a featured list, with list of Billboard Social 50 number-one artists.
- Adam Cuerden (submissions) was the first to score for a featured picture, with File:Thure de Thulstrup - L. Prang and Co. - Battle of Gettysburg - Restoration by Adam Cuerden.jpg.
Featured articles, portals and topics, as well as good topics, are yet to feature in the competition.
This year, the bonus points system has been reworked, with bonus points on offer for old articles prepared for did you know, and "multiplier" points reworked to become more linear. For details, please see Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. There have been some teething problems as the bot has worked its way around the new system, but issues should mostly be ironed out- please report any problems to the WikiCup talk page. Here are some participants worthy of note with regards to the bonus points:
- Ed! (submissions) was the first to score bonus points, with Portland-class cruiser, a good article.
- Hawkeye7 (submissions) has the highest overall bonus points, as well as the highest scoring article, thanks to his work on Enrico Fermi, now a good article. The biography of such a significant figure to the history of science warrants nearly five times the normal score.
- HueSatLum (submissions) claimed bonus points for René Vautier and Nicolas de Fer, articles that did not exist on the English Wikipedia at the start of the year; a first for the WikiCup. The articles were eligible for bonus points because of fact they were both covered on a number of other Wikipedias.
Also, a quick mention of The C of E (submissions), who may well have already written the oddest article of the WikiCup this year: did you know that the Fucking mayor objected to Fucking Hell on the grounds that there was no Fucking brewery? The gauntlet has been thrown down; can anyone beat it?
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
