- I might, do you have the citation (8 Or. 101) or better yet a case name? Google Books has a lot of old "reporters" online, to which there are quite a few "Pacific Reports". The regional reporters would (actually still do) aggregate cases from several states, so many Oregon Reporter cases would be in there. Cite for it would likely be something like 28 P. 204. Why revert?
I in no way did a personal attack or called you names. You said "I am going to come off as a bit of an ass". I said, "Thank you for sounding like an Ass" as a reply that I agreed with your statement. You did sound like an ass by saying I've got so many edits so don't tell me what to do.
It is very condescending to say that I have so many entries so I know better and it is in no way a personal attack to tell you that. I've worked in a University setting for 20 years now. My secondary job is counseling students on abuse. Physical assaults by Profs on students. Verbal assaults. Unwarranted sexual advances. The worst is, "I'm a prof" you an idiot so I know better. Hey they are tenured profs, so there is nothing you can do. Saying I'm a lawyer and you are not so I know what is right is just the same as the profs and I abhor it. It is wrong behavior. - Since your job is in part counseling, I believe one of the main responsibilities is to listen. As an an attorney (AKA counselor) it is my responsibility to listen (or read) to what clients and opposing counsel state. It is also incumbent upon me to ensure I hear the entire story and not cherry-pick the portions I want to focus on. I have to review and understand the entire argument. My argument was not "I've got so many edits so don't tell me what to do" but that must and should are two different words that when it comes to rules we treat differently. For comparison, review WP:BLP and note the use of must throughout, even in conjunction with should in the same sentence in the lede. But no matter what, you will disagree with me, and without you taking a class on legislation interpretation, you will never agree. We can quote dictionaries to the cows come home, as our very own Wiktionary says that one antonym for should is must. Or where it says "You should brush your teeth every day." Now you should, but there is nothing requiring one to do so (well maybe a parent). And I'm sure we could each find more. But when it comes to what laws (and for Wikipedia we just have guidelines/policies) should and must are very different. Now, in general, start class articles should have RS, but unlike the BLP policy, it is not must.
- My "I have a bunch of edits" item was about your actions. As in see WP:DTTR in general. As in before you start reverting edits and leaving notes, you might want to ensure you are 100% correct, such as leaving a note about vandalism after an editor adds a bunch of random cuss words. Here, you feel should means must, yet I have had this conversation before and others have indeed backed me up (and as shown above Wiktionary does to, for whatever that is worth). Plus, the ratings criteria also employs the use of must, see the FA criteria. Again, that is another parsing tool taught when interpreting rules, as in if two terms are used, both are usually interpreted to mean different things.
- Add the only relevant change to the start criteria was done by a single editor without discussion at the ratings template page, citing a discussion on another talk page where he raised the idea and nobody supported or commented on the change. Aboutmovies (talk) 10:06, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

First Article
My first article is nearly complete, named Paul Shoup : I believe I have everything sorted out relating to copyrights: any suggestions on how to remove the hold on my page? I have a written release from the original writer, which I'm not sure has copyright anyway, as it's from a government document -and I had hired her to create the work. Regardless I have her release. - I would suggest:

Works created by Riis while at the psychiatric Gaustad Hospital (Gaustad Sykehus) in Oslo, where he was committed against his will, disappeared into the possession of employees of the hospital. The newspaper Aftenposten said that the painting Castration (castration) from the 1950s is counted among his most important.

Question about WikiProject assessments
Hi. I've noticed you've rated a lot of biography articles for quality, so I thought you might be able to help me with a question I've wondered about for a while: When an article is rated on the quality scale for one WikiProject, such as WP:WikiProject Biography, should that rating automatically apply to all the WikiProjects the article is associated with? I know the importance rating differs from one WikiProject to another (I understand how a subject that rates as "top" priority in one WP can rate "low" in another), but it seems like the quality of the article itself is essentially the same regardless of the WikiProject. However, I've noticed most of the time, when an article is being rated, the assesser usually rates only one of the WikiProjects, so I was wondering if there was some policy discouraging rating all concerned WikiProjects "across the board" when assessing. I don't ever rate articles myself (although I will occasionally remove a "stub" or "start" rating I feel is obviously outdated so the article can be reassessed by someone more qualified than I), but I've wondered about this for a while, since I see some pages rated "B-class" in one WP while still rated "stub" or "start-class" in others. I guess basically what I'm wondering is: Once an article has been rated by someone qualified to assess it, is it ok if I update the quality rating for all the Wikiprojects associated with the article? - Yes and no. You are correct that essential the rating should be the same across projects. However, there are a couple problems. First, the project templates are "owned/maintained" by the projects, so ideally, only project members should be updating those templates. Not a huge issue, but some projects are more territorial than others. The other more significant problem is that assessments can actually vary slightly. I personally do not think they should, but here are a few examples of why they do: some projects use a modified version of the assessment scale. Specifically the military history people decided to increase the quality needed to get to B class (I personally think it was inane, and instead they could have spent more time just working on getting articles to GA, but whatever) so that a B class for Bio may not be for the military folks. Secondly, the other argument has been that an article that is say B class for WP Physics may only be a Start class for Bio, as what needs to be covered to complete an article could be different based on a projects focus. As in, say Bob was a physicist, and his article covers in-depth his hypothesis about dark matter, but doesn't even have basic info as to where/when he was born or where he went to school. The Physics folks might think the article is B class based on the coverage of the physics info, but for Bio it could only be start at best. Again, my personal thoughts would that the article would need to be start at best, as if any project thinks major parts are missing, then as a whole the article is incomplete.
- Now on a practical level, rarely would someone care if another editor updated all assessments to match. I personally do so for each project I am a member of, so for instance if there was a law school dean in Oregon that I assessed, I would update for WP Oregon, WP Law, UP Uni, and WP Bio. - Thanks. That answers my question. Although I agree, it would make more sense for the same quality criteria to apply across all WikiProjects (to avoid confusion), I'm not looking to change the existing policies (and however they may differ). It was just something I've wondered about for a while, because I've noticed some WP assessers will rate all projects when they assess, but now that I think about it, when it's happened it's usually been "entertainment" and/or "awards" articles where the rating standard probably doesn't vary much (if at all).
- I guess my follow-up question is this: Is it ok for me to remove a "stub" or "start" rating when it's obviously outdated? Again, I don't take it upon myself to rate articles (I prefer to spend my time writing articles, and simply don't have the time or inclination to check every reference/source to verify all key information, especially on articles with 30 or 40 or more sources), but when it comes to simply removing an obviously outdated rating, is that ok? For example, the Carroll O'Connor bio article, which was rated as "start" class over four years ago. I'm not saying it should be nominated as FA-class, but it's pretty obviously not "start" class anymore either - so is it ok to remove the "start" rating so the page can be reassesed? I hope you won't take this the wrong way - I don't know you, and you are obviously a prolific contributor. However, the welcome message you left at User talk:Dannyvendramini is one reason the process isn't automated. That editor has exactly one edit - asking for help because he believes his wife has been libeled. The edit was hurtful, and the editor is not happy. Sending a "welcome" thanking him for his "contributions" isn't the right message. The editor may well be considering legal action, and the welcome message doesn't send the message that we care about his concerns. Again, I hope I haven't offended, but I think it is wise to take a glance at the contributions before sending a welcome message. --SPhilbrick(Talk) 02:27, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
- I understand your concerns, but I simply have another philosophy. So many times the first message left on a user's talk page is a negative one, so anytime I see a redlinked user talk page I leave a message in order to try and have a better message, not to mention the useful links. Possibly in this case he used those links to seek the help he needed. As to any defamation issues and legal action, I fail to see the connection. This user was not the person who made the BLP violating statement, right? Therefor his contributions were useful and proper. As to libel, I really could not care less, as since I did not write the libeless statement, I have no exposure, and neither does Wikipedia. Certainly it can put a black eye on Wikipedia to those ignorant folks who do not understand defamation and US internet laws, but I would certainly hope it was explained to the editor that his sole recourse for any legal action that will not be laughed out of court is to sue the editor who wrote the statement. Thanks much for the input. But please let me better explain the situation.
Although I did so prior to creating a Wikipedia user name, I wrote much of the "Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis" article. Also, I am the user who created the redirects that I recently attempted to change on a temporary basis.
As you can see, in addition to the "Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis" article, quite a few pages redirect to the the moved "Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law" article. Unbeknownst to me when I created those redirect pages, Facebook has a bug in that Facebook often can't distinguish between a main article and a redirect page. So Facebook often indexes redirect pages, and once it has done so, then refuses to index the main page because Facebook sees it as a duplicate. That is, although several of the redirect pages (that I created) are indexed in Facebook, the main article (Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law) has NOT been indexed. I have written to Facebook repeatedly about this problem. All of my requests for help have gone unanswered, with one exception: On one occasion, a customer service rep wrote back and suggested "removing duplicates" from Wikipedia. Of course, that isn't so easily done. So instead, I followed the approach of removing the redirect and creating a "temporary" page for the "Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis" article, so that Facebook wouldn't see it (and pages redirected to it) as a duplicate of the main article. And since I closely monitor the main article and its related redirected pages, I had intended to revert the redirects as soon as the Facebook issue was resolved, or within a few weeks, whichever is sooner.
I completely AGREE with your position that the above is "Facebook's issue" and not a Wikipedia issue. Nonetheless, regardless of where the issue arises, it is the school (the subject of the article) that is suffering. And so I still hope to resolve a problem that I, in part, created.
The original objection (and reversion) occurred when I posted an article that merely read as follows: "This page has moved. Please see Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law." In hindsight, I see where that was not the best approach. However, I am now pursuing NEW approach that I believe 1) complies with Wikipedia guidelines, and 2) accomplishes the goal "eliminating duplicates" (on a temporary basis) from the standpoint of Facebook.
Although I maintain that my new alternative approach does not run afoul of any Wikipedia guidelines, I nonetheless concede that my new alternative approach still isn't ideal from a Wikipedia standpoint. But I ask for the editors' understanding in allowing me to pursue this new approach for a few weeks (no later than mid-February), which hopefully will be enough time to resolve the Facebook issue.
I very much appreciate your consideration and understanding.

I'm willing to make changes to save it, and since this started (Dec 28) I've added more links and cites to bolster the page, but the situation seems to remain and I am not sure how best to resolve it other than by continuing to add more cites. Should I just sit and wait now? Any insights (critical or supportive) would be appreciated, as I would like to do this correctly. See Nicole van Dam, THANK YOU! for any advice you might have. Hi. You rated this article "C" class for the purposes of WikiProject Law and I was wondering what element(s) of a "B" class article you believe are missing so I can correct them before GA nomination review. Grandiose (me, talk, contribs) 16:35, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
- While it is a good legal article, this is a general use encyclopedia. So, first, we need to rely mostly on secondary or tertiary sources, not primary sources (so cases and the laws themselves should be cited sparingly as we want them interpreted by published, reliable sources, not Wikipedia editors). Not that you may or may not know all about the topic, or even that you may or may not be an expert, it just avoids the original research problem. Then, also look at your citations from a copy editing standpoint to fix a few typos and one standardization issue (retrieved/accessed). Next, some greater context/history is needed behind the act/law. May not need much as I would presume some is covered in the article on the full act, but some mention is needed (see the broad coverage point for GA at WP:WIAGA). Lastly, which relates to the first point, the article is dominated by quotes, which should be used sparingly (see this essay Wikipedia:Quotations). When I assessed this, I went back and forth between C and B, but settled on C due mostly on the sourcing issue. To me, fix that alone and you are at B. Fix the rest and you are probably at GA. - Obviously user Mais oui! has issues with the article and is under the mis-impression that B class is of a higher level nowadays. While the military history folks may think so, at WP:LAW we have retained the standard set of classifications, and B class has been about the same for about 5 years. But I haven't the time nor the inclination to care enough (its only a class rating). The only real way to tell would be to take it to GA and put it through an actual real, structured review process (GA is the first level to have that, except per individual WikiProjects which again WPLAW has not participated in). My quick review at the time said it was good enough for B class, but that's only based on around 25,000 assessments, about 50 GA reviews I've been involved with and a couple FA reviews I've been involved with, so I could be wrong. Hello. Why move the stand alone list header to the talk page? The anon and casual editors that warning is meant for are not likely to visit the talk page. I police a lot of these lists for vandalism and they are high targets for it. The warning does help. Most of the editors of these sections that I've worked with put it on the front page. Requesting new article assessment
Hi. I've recently written a new bio page for Michael Shea (actor) and I was wondering if you'd do me a favor and take a glance at it when you get a chance. I just noticed that it's been rated "start-class" on the quality scale. From previous experience, I've found that most editors will rate every "new" article no higher than "start", regardless of the quality and/or sources (I've actually contacted editors about this in the past, and had them turn right around and re-assess as "C" or higher, claiming "cut & paste" mistakes, but I'm not in the mood to go through contacting the editor about it tonight). You're one of the few editors I've seen who actually takes the time to read an article before assessing (you've fairly rated several new bios I've written in the past), so I was hoping you'd take a look and give your opinion on the quality rating and re-rate if needed. If you decide it really is "start-class" then that's fine with me, but I've found that once a page is rated, it tends to stay that way for years, so I'd like to have the page rated properly by someone who's actually looked at the article, rather than just leave it listed as "start" class by someone weary from cutting & pasting a "start" rating onto dozens of article's talk pages. - As you likely noticed, I re-assessed as C. I think it's close to B, but just not enough non-acting content to get there. As in, 10 years out of about 60 years of life takes up about 75% of the article. Obviously that's what's notable about him, but it is a biography and more non-acting items should be fleshed out to get to B. After that, the main thing that separates B from GA is a good copy editing. BTW, I rarely read through an entire article, I skim through looking for key points to discern between stub through B, but I know what you mean about some people just through start. - Thanks for taking the time to take a look at the page for me. I'm pretty well acquainted with the Class assessment criteria, but it's just my own personal policy not to rate articles I've written (with the exception of removing a ridiculously overblown assessment by an unqualified editor on a page where I may have fixed a few typos). And I agree - this page is in the "C" category. From experience, I've found a "C-class" rating is about as high as any former child star is ever going to get, due to a lack of reliable sources past the point of their acting careers - with the possible exception of those who become infamous/notorious (for all the wrong reasons), or the rare case where a child star attains prominence in another field (although, even then, I've found much of the content in their bios lacks inline citations). I think I'm pretty realistic regarding where the pages I've written should rate (I don't waste my time writing "stubs", but I can recognize when an article about a subject from 30 or 40 or more years ago has limited available sources and only rates as "start" due to lack of online coverage). What gets me is when an article I've written has a source for every single sentence and gets a "start" rating from someone who hasn't even taken the time to really look at the page. I've found that most editors rating new articles are basically just tagging "start" as a "place-holder" to keep the page from being speedily deleted. And I understand rating new articles can be tedious/monotonous to review (I'm sure it's probably true that 90% of "new" articles are either "stubs" or "starts"), but I'm one of the few who works in a sandbox to get an article into decent shape before I create the page, so it just gets on my nerves when editors are too busy to take 5 minutes to look at an article before they rate it. If that's the case then I'd honestly prefer they not undertake the rating process at all, since - like I said before - once a page is rated, the rating tends to not be re-evaluated for another 3 or 4 or more years (with the exception of current superstars whose pages are getting an extraordinary amount of traffic). Leatherman
Hello Aboutmovies,
As a wikipedia fan and long time user, but never an editor, this is indeed new to me.
As an employee of Leatherman, when I saw that there were multiple factual errors as well as questionable inclusions in the entry, I decided to edit it. Because I am an employee, I need to take care with both sides: Only adding information that is correct by them as well as neutral to Wiki standards.
What was wrong with the edit I made?
Disclosure: While I am an employee, I work in the die shop and am unconnected with sales or marketing. I did this to improve the entry of the company I now work for. When the present entry has stood for months with an incorrect number of employees as well as prominent display of lines of tooling as current that were retired in 2010 or sooner, I believe it has issues that need fixing. As it stands now this entry is factually incorrect.

- It's probably because I go in daily and work through the unassessed BIOs, starting with the subcats. I'm down to just the sports and musicians, and keeping the others empty. It looks like the above was a politician, so I'll avoid those if you can keep them cleared out. Otherwise I use a semi-automated tool to make the assessment process faster, so if someone assess it between when I open the article and when I save the assessment, then there is no way to catch the update. Trying to report a small bug
Hello, This may not be the proper place for this but my hope is that it will get to the right person(s).
I am trying to report a small bug in the editing/display Javascript but am finding many roadblocks and difficulties. I don't know if the Wikipedia Bugzilla requires a separate account from Wikipedia editing account or it just doesn't work but I gave up. It should not be so difficult to give feedback.
I ran into this problem while entering external links for an article Screw-propelled vehicle. The script insists on appending part of the author date [key = date] to the author link [key = authorlink], destroying the link. I tried a number of variations but nothing seems to work so I just left it.

C Class
I am not agree with your assesment of Yamilet Peña and Yuderqui Contreras as C Class. I haven't found you rating more than C in a very large ammount of articles, but one that already have been graded B by another wikiproject. There is a criteria for B grading: The article meets the following five criteria: 1.It is suitably referenced, and all major points are appropriately cited. 2.It reasonably covers the topic, and does not contain major omissions or inaccuracies. 3.It has a defined structure, including a lead section and one or more sections of content. 4.It is free from major grammatical errors. 5.It contains appropriate supporting materials, such as an infobox, images, or diagrams. Could you please explain me, why any of those articles haven't been graded as at least B? Thanks. Osplace 04:29, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
- While those articles are nice, and extremely well referenced, I stand by the C class ratings. My other assessments really are not relevant, but the simple fact is few articles at the un-assessed level are B class, or even C class, thus why there are so few in my assessments since I usually am doing un-assessed bio articles.
- As to the two above, there are several items that stand out as to why I went with C, and why they are C class articles. First, is the first part of the articles, the lead/lede section. For articles this size, they should be more than just two sentences, otherwise it does not accurately summarize the article. Secondly, there are some grammar/typo issues and manual of style issues. For Yamilet Peña, look at the 2011 and 2012 sections and see all the single sentence paragraphs. For Yuderqui Contreras, there are things such as "As 17 years old" which is not proper English, as it should be At 17 years old or As a 17 year-old. There are other examples that tend to show the article was not written by a native English speaker. Regardless, these issues alone would not be enough in my book to keep it from being B class.
- The biggest hurdle to reaching B class is actually is #2 of the criteria, which is usually the stumbling block for most biographies. The most glaring example is in Yamilet Peña, where we look at her "Early and personal life" section, which is extremely inadequate. These are biographies, which mean they are about the lives of people. While their athletic achievements make them notable, and it where the most coverage comes from the media, these are still people. Where did she grow up, who are her parents, where did she go to school as I would assume she did not start with accounting in college? This is a very common problem with articles on athletes, as the editors tend to only write about the athletic achievements and little on the person, which you need both for a biography. For a more prominent example of a Dominican athlete's article with the same problem, see Robinson Canó that is also rated as C class. Hopefully that explains my rationale for the assessments. I based the format, content and style of my article on several other, similar articles including Carole Mortimer, which don't have any such issues highlighted. I've checked the guidelines quoted and while I understand the points they're making, I'm not clear where my article breaches them while the ones I used as models did not. At your convenience, could you or a colleague highlight specific, sample points in my article that breach the guidelines and why, so that I can use your advice to bring my article up to standard without wasting everyone's time blindly making random updates?

Hi, just noticed your additions on my Muhammadu Attahiru I page. I want to thank you particularly for changing the Biography note on the talk page. Since I'm new here, I was wondering if there was any way that I could recommend some of my other biography pages (all labeled as Stubs), but ones I made big, for similar review. - Thanks for taking the time to re-rate the Kolden article. One other request - I recently reworked the Butch Patrick bio a few weeks ago and I just noticed that's also still rated a "stub". I didn't re-write the entire article (mainly just the "Career" section, which was previously almost entirely unsourced), but I think it's probably at least somewhere between a "start" and "C" now too if you get a chance to take a look over there. Green infrastructure edit
hi aboutmovies. Thanks for your feedback. I certainly did not intend to SPAM wikipedia, so apologies for that. I'm new to this and thought I had taken into account the notability and promotional content restrictions and tailored my additions to those requirements. The report that I had cited is public, primary, and seemed notable, in my estimation. Was the research not notable enough? Was it improper to link to the respective authors' wiki pages in the text? Or something else? The article certainly seemed interesting and noteworthy re: a description of green infrastructure (ie, what are the economic effects of green infrastructure) and I'd be interested to see how and where you would add a link to this type of research without SPAMing. - I'm sorry I was not more clear. The SPAMing has to do with your repeated adding of links to ECONorthwest. Given the few edits you have, it appears you perhaps have a conflict of interest with that company and are attempting to increase its presence on Wikipedia. So, if you are concerned with improving the Green infrastructure article and simply want to add to Wikipedia, please find another source. Ditto for the other articles. I guess my persistent issue is that the citations for the text in question weren't to the company or the company's website, but there was an inline reference to that company's non-existent wikipage in addition to those for the other authors of the report. the citations were to the american society of landscape architects website and, i believe, an article in The Atlantic. The second of which, at least, is a reputable independent news source. So it sounds like the issue is the in-line references to company wikipedia pages, not the citations themselves. I will give the Green Infrastructure edit another go with your input in mind, as the economic effects are not discussed on the page and are within the public purview. Aboutmovies, can you please give me assistance. My articles are being stalked and harassed and I don't know what I can do
Hello, I'm contacting you because I frankly don't know how to navigate the maze of what to do where two deceased person biographical articles that I created (Allen B. Reed and Randolph H. Miner) and researched from scratch are being defaced and threatened with "deletion" by an individual whose page proclaims that he is an "unemployed Christian" (I would say that statement is 50% accurate) living in "South Carolina" while disclaiming that he is "not a bully". Me thinks he or she doth protest the last statement too much. Actually not a bully, in the real world anyway, but more of a cyber vandal or stalker. In my brief look at his page, it seems he does this as his day job. I don't know how this individual who is now stalking pages I have created found them in the first place, and I am not engaging this person directly, since I know his kind feeds on that attention. I wrote him one message back about a week ago, notifying that I regard what he is doing as vandalism. That was when he defaced and deleted whole junks of a biography for Allen B. Reed. After that he moved on to add stalking to his repertoire, when he found another article I had created for Randolph H. Miner which in his unemployed godliness and self-perceived omnipotence he has now set on a schedule for deletion. I have been on this planet long enough to know this type of individual: bitter, malicious, insecure and this gives him or her the opportunity to screw with others-- offering nothing constructive and failing to cite one single historical inaccuracy on my articles-- coupled with too much time on his or her hands. Who is he or she to say what is "historical" in an area he or she knows nothing about when this is just a mean game for him or her? All this miscreant has done is put up tags that they learned how to do, and set my article for deletion, unless I answer to them in their sick game, since it's my move or the article gets deleted. This Wiki article writing is not a game, but a hobby for me to share my interest and research with others, who are free to constructively add of course and constructively edit-- not destructively vandalize to get "a rise" out of me. Frankly, I don't know all the codes and how to navigate in this world. But I did write 2 damn good, and well researched and footnoted, in particular for Allen B. Reed-- more than 140-- of interest in the area of US Naval officers of the last century-- and in the case of Randolph H. Miner, one of the top 20 men who made Los Angeles, 2nd largest city in the US, at the beginning of the last century and key developer of the Port of San Pedro, second or third busiest in the US. But what would this oaf now about that-- (s)he's just a vandal. I have a day job, and if all my limited Wiki contributions gets deleted, c'est la vie, and ain't no big thing. My venture at "Wikipedia" will be finished thanks to the maliciousness of one pathetic individual and I'll put my efforts towards my own website, as many do, to post information and research for those who are interested, not in a vandal prone environment for pathetic people such as this person. In any event, if you are willing to help me-- since I'm not going to play games with this person, I don't have the inclination or desire to engage such a person directly and try to learn all the codes and tags and read the chess book on how to fight your pages and work from being deleted by a loon. It was hard enough to sincerely try to increase the knowledge on this encyclopedia, if I understand its purpose correctly. Anyway, apologies for the rant, but if you care to help, please look at the two articles I have created for these two historical figures, in particular the amount of research and footnotes for the article for Allen B. Reed and what this destructive person, who knows nothing about the subject matter, has no constructive input, but has done to show his or her "power" by defacing it with lots of "cute" tags to frankly, vandalize the post. - No, it's not one individual- it's a multitude of experienced editors who came across two Wikipedia articles that are failing on several fronts. The subjects of these articles simply are not notable, as they mention vessels these military officers served aboard and who these people had minimal with and then the articles would go into tangents of detail about what these other subjects have that its notable, while failing to dictate their own personal relevance. The reason they are doing this is not because they are going after your articles, but because they are failing Wikipedia articles. The thing is, whatever you write is not your property, it's the property of Wikipedia and the benefit you have is of being acknowledged for helping create it in the backlogs, but that's it. As well written as the pages might be, they are out of the scope of what constitutes these individuals' notability. Also, while on the subject of personal attacks, how many times did you refer to this person as "unemployed", "pathetic" or an "oaf"? More importantly, why is that relevant? As DarthBotto points out, there are multiple editors who have pointed out various ways the two articles in question do not match up to the site's policies and guidelines. The way Barnabywoods is taking these edits so personally, and personally attacking me for it, leave me incapable of believing there aren't serious WP:OWN issues. Reed: Revision history. What you prepared was a great service to Wikipedia for other articles that needed severe help. This point being that a lot of the content at Allen B. Reed was out of wp:scope. It is now honed down to focus on the biography itself. The questions we can now raise are: Is Allen B. Reed wp:notable? and... Are the sources that you provided wp:reliable? For me, I'm on the fence. Need Help in Revising Article on Nixon
Hi, Aboutmovies thanks for your previous help.
I'm revising the subsection on Richard Nixon about his involvement in Latin America. As it reads before my revision it implies that Nixon and his administration had no involvement in the 9/11 Coup in 1973 that overthrew Salvador Allende and installed Pinochet. Instead it only hints at allegations that are unproven.
Since 2000 we have a trove of declassified documents that conclusively prove US involvement. The reader is misled with the previous information and the record should be set straight. I changed the existing one paragraph to three paragraphs.
User Wehwalt reverted my changes saying 'way overemphasis'. I think the information is vital for readers to know and that the overthrow of a democratically elected government, destruction of a country's economy, and imprisonment and torture of thousands of Chilean citizens is not overemphasis. I'm willing to cut down the length if required, but the earlier info glosses over a serious chapter of US covert action with grievous consequences.
What do you suggest if Wehwalt and I get into a revert war? I'm not used to the talk pages as I'm still fairly new. Do I first add a section on his page, or on the Nixon page to try to resolve the situation? Finally, if we cannot agree how can I appeal to a moderator?

Radio Station Clarification
Hi Aboutmovies,
The reason the data was removed from the KQRZ page was because the FCC never authorized the station to transmit on 96.3 MHz. Therefore, the information is inaccurate. The original frequency for the allocation was in fact for that frequency. However, at the time Heritage applied for the license in 2001 they were in competition with 3 other applicants for that frequency. Then, in 2006 the 96.3 allocation was taken over by a full power FM station application in West Linn (still pending with the FCC). Full power stations can bump LP stations off frequency. This is what happened before KQRZ ever even signed on the air. The 96.3 application does show up on the FCC Query. But, you need to look at all of the other pending "Records" under KQRZ-LP to clearly quote the history accurately. Quite frankly the entire history of the frequency and transmitter changes is convoluted to document and is not that relevant to make history of.
Also, the current transmitter location is accurately documented in the Reference (1) in the last FCC Record. Therefore, the generalized location information noting "Copper Mt" in the body of the article you added was removed, as being redundant and too generalized. All the reader has to do is look at the FCC Reference and the transmitter location can be pinpointed easily.

Counting WP:ORE DYKs by year
I noticed you've been adding yearly totals to the WikiProject Oregon/DYK page, which is useful, but it raises the following question: Should not double-new-article hooks be counted as 2 DYKs, since each of two different articles both got a DYK? If you made a conscious decision to count only the total number of hooks, then fine. Otherwise, I calculate a total of 78 for 2011, for example, rather than 74, because four hooks had two DYK-qualifying articles (on 4/15, 6/12, 12/3 and 12/22). I don't feel strongly one way or the other, but wanted to know your thoughts on this. The page's introduction refers several times to "articles", and never to "hooks" or "main page appearances", and the number of articles that were DYKs in 2011 (e.g.) was 78. (You can reply here.) - I just counted hooks simply for ease and speed. I just highlighted the section and did the add numbered list formatting and then previewed and used the number at the end. Fast and simple. If you want to add up the actual number of articles, go for it, I don't really care either way either. MILB template deletion discussion
Hi, AM. You might be interested to know that the template {{Infobox Defunct MiLB (Alternate)}} has been nominated for deletion. I've used it in two articles you worked on (you created one of them, Salem Senators), because it appears to be the only way to suppress the team logo fields, and I think it thereby improves the appearance of their infoboxes. I have no particular interest in baseball, so I won't be upset if the template ends up being deleted, but personally I feel it's useful and worth keeping. - By the way, I suspect that the creation of the template was not quite carried out right (or not completed, at least) from a technical standpoint, but I don't know anything about that aspect of WP templates. Ways to improve Kryptiq

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. This article relies largely or entirely upon a single source: Portland Business Journal. The hometown newspaper is is acceptable, but sources which can show the company's significance on national scale would be better.
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

- Furthermore, can you cite to me the requirement for a need for "significance on national scale". While newer editors often have a misconception that notability needs to be national or international, the push for such as guideline failed many years ago, but I'm open to you showing me the criteria within the GNG. And generally, coverage over a decade by a variety of different authors from the same newspaper would not be considered a single source. Not to mention, The Oregonian is also used, and the PBJ is not the hometown paper, that would be the Hillsboro Argus or the Beaverton Valley-Times (depending on the year), and neither of those is used. Cut & paste moves
Hello. I see you started the article Portland Thorns on 14 December, then redirected the existing Portland Thorns FC article to your new one. I'm sure you're aware this was effectively a cut & paste move. If you wish to move an existing article to a new title (or accidentally create a new article when one already exists), you need to move the old article using either the move tab or via the WP:RM process. - If you read the debate in its entirety, you'll see that two editors supported the move, in addition to the proposer, whilst there were no opposing votes.

The file mentioned in the headline has two (that I am aware of, maybe more) errors. First, the years of this war are 1806-1807, so Louisiana was by this time part of the United States (since 1803). On the map, however, it is shown as controlled by Spain. Second, Haiti was by this time independent (since 1804). However, it is shown as still controlled by France. I was wondering if you could fix these errors? If not, could you show me how to go about it?

- Perhaps you should review what C class is: "The article is substantial, but is still missing important content or contains much irrelevant material. The article should have some references to reliable sources, but may still have significant problems or require substantial cleanup." That is, as you point out, it "may still have significant problems or require substantial cleanup", which is why it is C, and not B. Aboutmovies (talk) 06:24, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

- Its a very good start for a first article, very well referenced. What it needs to go further is expansion. A good article would have more about his life beyond the Antarctic exploration, as the article is a biography. So if you made the early life and later life sections about three times as big, then you would have a well-rounded biography. Hiding banners in the Sandbox
Sorry if my sandbox was causing problems. I didn't realize the banners would populate my sandbox into the banner categories. I thought it only worked for real article talk pages. Is there anyway I can make the banners visible to me in my sandbox without making them visible to everyone else? I'm working on a couple articles and I want them there as a reminder of things I need to add to articles as I go along, but I'll probably forget to do it if I don't actually see them in the display preview. - It's a really nice article, and the issues are minor. The main item that stuck out is the background section squeezes text between the graphical items (e.g. between the picture and infobox), which should be avoided - and is an easy fix. The other item is that in that same section you have bullet points. Besides the fact that we prefer prose over lists, and that bullet points also are best left to areas such as the see also area or other list spots, another issue is the placement along the left-aligned image. It's just one of those things that looks odd (display will obviously vary from computer to computer) and should be avoided - another reason why we avoid bullet points. Otherwise, you may also want to ensure you have citations to particular pages throughout. I noticed for instance one footnote is to "A History Of Factory Legislation" which appears to be a ~320 page book. Usually you want to direct the reader to the individual page for the source. - Thank you. I regularly copy formats when I can find them; the trouble starts when I want to break new ground. For example: the en.wiki article on Jean-François Champollion is woefully deficient compared to the fr.wiki (i.e. no mention that his older brother was an archaeologist!). I want to translate selected portions of the latter into the former. (a) What do I put in the edit summary? (b) How do I link/reference those sections? Hi there. You created this category a month ago, and probably populated it soon after, but it seems to be a duplicate for Category:Cologne University of Music alumni. Both categories point to the same school. Many of the alumni have now two categories meaning the same thing. - I noticed that after I had populated most of it. I had not gone back as I didn't want to deal with the hassle of argue which name it should be under, but they do need to be merged. In my experience some people get really attached to the names, especially when it is one such as this where it is between using an English name and the one in its native language. My preference, and I think standard protocol, is for the category name to match the article name, so I think the cats I made should be the name now. I think if I recall correctly, the article itself was originally under the English name, and then moved to its current name without changing the cat name. Of course, the bigger issue is the article name, which I believe should be the English name with the German name redirected. Which if that is done, then the cat structure I set up should be moved, with the alumni cat then merged.

- You know, we have something on Wikipedia we call assume good faith, and civility. Coming to my talk page to make an accusation is rather "not appropriate" and I might even say dis"respectful". First, no one advertised it as such, only labeled it as such. Secondly, the refuge is a public place, as in owned by the government, a government for the people, by the people, etc.. In other words, every thing that goes on there is "public". Next, if the general public is not allowed to use it as such, I actually have a serious problem with that as a taxpayer. This shelter is not a private place and generally speaking a government entity such as the FWS should not being acting as "arbitrary, capricious, an abuse of discretion" and they way you are coming across makes it come across as a bit arbitrary. My personal view on public spaces such as this is that you want more people out at these natural places in order for them to engage and appreciate the natural landscape, which would include encouraging groups of all types - not just school field trips - to visit. Limiting a structure likely paid for by tax dollars (in whole or in part) to only certain groups to me is arbitrary and an abuse of discretion, but that's my legal view and is not intended as legal advise to anyone. Lastly, and this ties into the civility and good faith Wikipedia rules, is that coming onto my talk page in such a confrontational manner not only is improper by Wikipedia standards, but does not make you or your group look good. Do you really want your group to come across as some crusading, angry group of people hell-bent on your world view? If it is, mission accomplished. If your goal is to encourage participation at a place you would seemingly love, then you have accomplished nothing but an epic fail. As a child you may have heard the phrase you catch more flies with honey, and this applies here. A simple message to the effect of "Hey, I see you uploaded a picture of the Environmental Education shelter at TRNWR and I wanted to let you know the actual name and the general purpose" would have gotten a far different response from me then what you have otherwise solicited. As it is, the description is not inaccurate, just incomplete. It is a group picnic area, it just has another primary purpose. Bruce Jenner
I've got to question your revision to Bruce Jenner. Yes he WAS a sportsperson, yes he now lives near Los Angeles, but at the time he was a sportsperson, there are a number of places he could say he was from . . . Mt. Kisco, New York (where he grew up), Lamoni, Iowa (where he went to college) and San Jose, California (where he trained); Los Angeles was not one of them. He walked out of the Olympic Stadium in 1976, with a gold medal and world record but without his poles for vaulting, never to compete again. - You are misunderstanding the by city categories. They are not "this person did this in this city" they are simply moving people down into the subcats based on their residence in the city and then by whatever occupation made them notable, not necessarily an intersection. As in, he was already in a sportsperson category and then he was in the LA category, so he can properly be moved into the subcategory. Hillsboro Ballpark
Here
The lede says- "The new ball field is located next to Hillsboro Stadium, a multi-sport stadium owned by the city of Hillsboro, with both stadiums located inside the city's Gordon Faber Recreation Complex."
Then the history section paragraph one reads- "The league and city then started discussions around September 2011 about Hillsboro building a stadium in the city’s Gordon Faber Recreation Complex near Sunset Highway"
Then the history section paragraph two reads- "Hillsboro proposed to build a four to six thousand seat ballpark adjacent to Hillsboro Stadium at the Faber Complex, with plans to open for the 2013 season"
The part I removed- "Located in the northeastern part of town near the Sunset Highway, it is adjacent to Hillsboro Stadium, which was designed to host football, soccer, and lacrosse."
Obviously the part I remove is a third mention of the same thing and second time in the body of the article. What goes on at the other stadium isn't relevant to the paragraph or the article....William 20:41, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- We'll have to agree to disagree. You see, as your synopsis above shows, the highway is not in the lede. The history section does not say it was actually built there, does it? See Portland Beavers Ballpark as to why it would be good to mention where the thing actually was built. Then, the GFRC is mentioned in the lede, and then the history section, but a not a third time. Again, for it to be in the lede (which is intended as a summary) it needs to be in the body. Which takes us to the Hillsboro Stadium part. As with my first point, the history section does not say it was in fact built by the stadium, only proposed. So again, probably best that is covered, and again, it needs to be in the body before it can be in the lede. Lastly, I think it is quite relevant to mention that both stadiums can also host soccer and lacrosse, don't you think? Seriously, they share a concourse and concession stands and seat a few thousand people each and cost a fair amount in public money, and both can host many of the same sports. Even the architectural style is the same with concrete and white steel. Generally when two stadiums are at the same location, the proximately is often mentioned multiple times throughout the article. Here, given the relatively regional profile for both facilities, I think an added mention as to what the other stadium is primarily for makes sense. If you look through the history of this article and as to what links here you will find some early confusion, as an article or two linked to the football stadium instead of here, or vice versa, so covering it here helps to avoid the confusion. Palm Springs people & category listing question
Thanks so very much for your work on categorizing the people from Palm Springs. I haven't figured out how to use HotCat, so I've left it alone (for too long). In case you didn't know, there are two lists of people related to Palm Springs. See Palm Springs Walk of Stars and List of people from Palm Springs, California. (I hope this helps in your category drive.) With these list articles in mind, please tell me if it is proper to include them (the two lists) in the mayors, salespeople, writers, etc. categories? - The list of people from foo is usually kept in the main category and not also in any of the occupation level subcats. I saw the Walk of Stars article in the category listing, but did not look at it until now. Generally that sort of article would not be in a people category, but if it remains the sort key should be changed to be listed at the top of the cat. Thanks for the new categories; I have been adding articles to them also. But I think you should not remove "politicians from San Diego", as you did at Brian Maienschein, just because there is a City Council category. In a case like Maienschein, he is more than a city council member; he is also in the state assembly - and the state assembly tag does not specify San Diego. So IMO we need all three categories (city council, assembly, politician from San Diego) for someone like him who is more than a city council member. I don't know whether you read Willamette Week on a regular basis, but you might like to pick up a copy of the current edition (from August 28) if you haven't already seen it, because of this. WW has used four or five of my photos to date, but only one (of the Galleria) was used in the print edition. Of course, the size of reproduction is tiny (about 2 inches by 1.3 inches!), but proper credit was given to you, and use in the newspaper's print edition carries a little more cachet than online use. Hello Aboutmovies there is this movie I once watched but I don't remember the name. Its about a guy at high school who stays in the same science class with a girl, the girl has a boyfriend but he kinda have his way through and the girl breaks up with her guy... During a certain science project the guy told the teacher to make the girl his partner, this is done, so later the guy stops coming to school, making the girl look worried and then asked the teacher all the man could say was "I knew this wasn't a good idea"... Removing Category:Colorado lawyers in favor of Category:Lawyers from Denver, Colorado
Please stop doing this. Bar admission is done by state governments, and so these "[State] lawyers" categories are not merely where someone is from, but where someone was actually licensed to practice and/or did actually practice. So the two options are to include the articles in both categories (though that could just end up confusing as to what each means), or to delete the city-specific place of origin category for lawyers. postdlf (talk) 15:22, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry, but while bar admission is to an extent by state (keep in mind we have federal bars as well), that would only affect the non-existent "attorneys from" categories. A lawyer is not required to be an attorney. While I know most treat them synonymously, there is a difference between attorney and lawyer, and lawyer requires no bar admission, thus your argument above is not relevant. To put it another way, every attorney is a lawyer, but not vice versa. It might be really hard for those people who practiced before the modern bar associations. As it is, if an article were to say John Doe served as general counsel of Big Company in say Silicon Valley then people might add them to the CA lawyer cat even though the GC may not be a member of the bar. Why? Well, they are a lawyer in California, so the article supports their inclusion in the cat. Simply put, the category says lawyer, and the "criteria" at the top is contradictory, as lawyers do not practice law, attorneys do (or at least are eligible to practice). - I strongly agree with User:Postdlf on this. Category:Colorado lawyers is basically shorthand for "Lawyers admitted to practice in Colorado". There is no bar in the United States where people are permitted to represent others (besides their own minor children) without being licensed to practice somewhere (even with respect to contesting a federal trademark filing). It would be interesting to know if we have other occupation level cats in which we require formal licensure (architects, engineers, doctors) before we place them in a cat? As it is, we generally do not. So, what I am going to do in the next few weeks is send this to CfD to see if we can get the lawyers cats re-named to match how we do the other occupation cats, which would be Lawyers from State. If you want to propose a sort-of parallel cat system using attorney and then require inclusion to include actual bar membership, have fun with that. - We've offered you plenty of evidence and arguments that this is how these categories work. What evidence do you have to the contrary? You keep insisting on this ultimately irrelevant lawyer/attorney distinction, but you can point to nothing to show that the present category system intended to make that distinction, and the longstanding category description pages are rather persuausive to the contrary. So let's avoid wasting the time of a mass CFD by showing us your evidence that things are as you say they are and would be better off that way. Incidentally, User:BD2412 and I are lawyers. - Congrats on being lawyers. Personally, I'm an attorney at law. As to three people, I disagree. Johnpacklambert is against all of these smaller cats for other reasons, not the attorney/lawyer distinction that is at issue here. Then as to you and BD2412, I consider you a tag-team partnership, so I really only count you as one - oddly that would be canvasing if this were AfD/CfD but always nice to ask friends instead of posting on all of the relevant talk pages to bring in unbiased opinions.
- Now that we are done with the head count, I found it disheartening that you are simply dismissing my opinion based on ... what? I provided a single example I happened to come across that clearly shows not all editors follow the criteria, not to mention the earlier example of the federal judges being included when they do not need to be attorneys nor admitted to a particular bar. I'm sorry you can't follow what that means, so I will spell it out: Not everyone follows the criteria at the top, and instead people follow what the category says it is: an occupation who happens to be from a certain state. Again, we do not usually require membership in a particular "union" nor have a license from a particular government before we place people in an occupation category. For one thing, those become problematic when going back in time before modern licensing. Take for instance US lawyers, what should we do with those who practiced before statehood for the area they lived in? One example is Samuel Thurston, who is not in a lawyer cat, but should he be? Not to mention your argument would then kind of mean we need to get rid of Category:American lawyers since there really would be no such thing, as the Feds do not license, unless you want to reserve that for the federal court bars. As it is, that cat should only be a container cat per your definition, as in order for them to be in that cat they need to have been admitted to practice, which is done by state, so they should then be in the individual state cats. Unless you want to switch criteria between the American and state level cats. Hence the reason what the actual definition of lawyer is the better way to go.

In any event, the Black's Law Dictionary definition that opens lawyer defines it not merely as "a person learned in the law" (did you stop reading at that point?), but also "a person practicing law", and as embracing "attorney" and "counsel" (with counsel meaning "a lawyer or group of lawyers representing someone in court", according to the Oxford American Dictionary). Attorney at law says that in certain jurisdictions, it's "the official name for a lawyer" (emphasis added). Also, the Oxford American Dictionary first defines "attorney" as "a lawyer", and notes that "Attorney is a more formal word used for a lawyer and is used especially in job titles: district attorney" (emphasis added).[4]
And I've already showed you that both the State of New York and the American Bar Association use "lawyer" officially to mean someone licensed to practice law. As do other states: California ("'Lawyer' means a member of the State Bar of California..."), Pennsylvania ("A lawyer, as a member of the legal profession, is a representative of clients, an officer of the legal system and a public citizen having a special responsibility for the quality of justice."), New Jersey (using "lawyer" throughout state Rules of Professional Conduct), Illinois (same)... Perhaps your state is the only one that doesn't, where the general public would not be deceived by someone calling themselves a lawyer when they were not actually licensed to practice law, where you can proudly say without fear of sounding ridiculous, "I am not a lawyer; I am an attorney at law!" - This is Wikipedia, so we get to define things the way they are world-wide. But if you want to get snippy, I suggested some readin comprehension. Note I did not say what Blacks says the definition is, I said the lawyer article cites to it. You may note your edition may be different than the one cited in the article. My copy of the Oxford American Dictionary is likely different, as mine is from nearly 20 years ago, so I would hope they update it. Though I'm note sure why you cite to counsel, since that is not one of the terms we are discussing. But you may want to dissect the definition for lawyer again. The last one shows that there is a distinction, as if you are a lawyer, you do not need to pass the bar. It really is as simple as there are two terms, and both have different definitions, which is why they have separate entries and not a simple see attorney. Look at the Oxford American definition, and note you do not need to have passed the bar to do all three. Obviously anyone can write legal documents, but in my jurisdiction after two years of law school I could have made court appearances, and I think that is standard. More importantly, look at the two definitions, they are different. Everyone who is an attorney is also a lawyer, but not vice versa. Sort of like every physician is a doctor, but not vice versa.
- As to your parting shot, again, reading comprehension is key. I never said Oregon lists people as attorneys. Again, every member of the Oregon Bar is also a lawyer. My point was that if someone is only the classical definition of lawyer and not an attorney, and they are practicing law in Oregon, then there is a problem. When you sign off on your letters, do you put your name and then lawyer? If you do, you would be the only one I know, as everyone I've seen does Attorney at Law.
- Now, the definition may be in flux, as meanings constantly evolve, but as an encyclopedia we have made the distinction between the two. It is quite clear that the general public does confuse the two (many confuse affect and effect too), as you do, but there is a distinction, which is why there are two words. They are synonyms, but that does not mean they have an identical meaning, just close. Much like big and huge are, but while everything huge would also be big, it does not quite work in the opposite direction as some things that are big are not always huge. - ALL: I'm not surprised all three of you agree with one-another, but that is hardly evidence this is how these cats work. Keep in mind that with expanded reciprocity, pro hoc vice, and the federal bars, the line has blurred considerably. Not to mention, what makes lawyers so different from all the other occupations? Again, lawyers does not equal attorneys, thus bar admission is not relevant. Again, I know you think the criteria at the top of the cat is controlling, but without even looking I came across an example where someone was improperly included in a cat if based on the criteria (Stanley Allen Bastian who is admitted to Oregon but there is no evidence he practiced there). I'm sure I could find more, as people are going to go with the common perception of the category without regard for the formal criteria someone placed when the cat was created. It would be interesting to know if we have other occupation level cats in which we require formal licensure (architects, engineers, doctors) before we place them in a cat? As it is, we generally do not. So, what I am going to do in the next few weeks is send this to CfD to see if we can get the lawyers cats re-named to match how we do the other occupation cats, which would be Lawyers from State. If you want to propose a sort-of parallel cat system using attorney and then require inclusion to include actual bar membership, have fun with that. This is really getting out of hand, and it is not clear we should have these categories. - Sorry, start your CfD, but these are standard cats (see here and here for examples), so I'm pretty clear we should have these. So if you would like me to participate in the conversation, that's fine, but it is rather uncivil to ask me to stop when you have no consensus that your view is the correct view. And they are not so much city/occupation (I know the few cat people like to think of them as triple intersections, but they are not) but location/occupation intersections. All I have been doing is diffusing the People by city cat into sub cats, which actually on the whole decreases the number of categories these people are in. I have yet to start a new "tree", other than collecting some existing ones by city for architects and lawyers. As in other editors already started these city level occupation cats, I've just expanded it, but I almost always ensure there are at least 10 articles in each in order to avoid WP:SMALLCAT. The amount of people in them ranges from low 20's to over 200. Tehran, Caracas, Albany, New Rochelle, and Charleston SC are next on my hit list. I see a city category with over 200 people in it and no sportspeople category as ripe for one.

I don't get the significance of that size at all, or how it justifies the peculiar subcategorization by an occupation that probably wasn't engaged in there. The problem as we see it is the intersection of two unrelated biographical facts: where someone is originally from or lived at some point, and the fact that they had a particular career regardless of where they did it. - As I've pointed out multiple times, how many persons are categorized from somewhere is used as criteria for deleting, merging etc. So far as Residence, lived there, born there etc, most athletes don't practice their occupation in the place they live. In fact, categorizing athletes as being from a city just because they played for a sports team there is considered wrong, and I happen to agree wholeheartedly. They're from somewhere else then, where they grew up, where they live when not out on the field, and so on even though they aren't doing or ever did athletics in many of those places. You're not from Chicago because you're a Chicago Cub, but then logically you're from Spokane Washington because you lived or were there even if you weren't necessarily a practicing athlete at the time. Then if you say they shouldn't be a sportspeople from Spokane, what's the criteria for being a sportspeople from somewhere? The athlete plays for the Cubs but goes home to Spokane every year to rest in order to play the next season. That down time is it part of his sports because he is gaining the necessary energy to compete? Every person's life will need to be microanalyzed and unfortunately most articles at WP or even the internet don't give us that amount of detail of a person's life. Default is- nobody is from Foo unless the person accomplished something when he was living there? What's the criteria for accomplishment? Play high school sports there? Have your first ever writing published while you live there? Get an A for a poem in Fooville High School English class and that inspires you to become an author?...William 02:48, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

New Willamette River sub-category
In this category, are you sure you want to have Cottage Grove, Jasper, Lowell, Oakridge, and Westfir, if Cottage Grove is along the coast fork and the four others are along the middle fork? Jsayre64 (talk) 17:22, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
- I'm personally not really a fan of these river/populated places cats, but if they exist they should be complete. My thoughts are that if the stream says Willamette River, it should be considered part of the river, and thus the communities along the "forks" should be in the cat. This mainly since it says they are forks. Not that I agree with the USGS as to naming as I think it would have made more sense to name these forks as other rivers and then have the Willamette start at the confluence, sort of like there is not a Rocky Mountains Fork Mississippi River, instead we call it the Missouri River, but maybe they have actual rules on this somewhere in DC. But anyway, I think the forks should be considered part of the main, but not the other non-Willamette named tributaries. But I don't have a strong attachment. - Hard to tell without putting some work into it. There appears to be three S-J articles on the place, which is a good start, but on their own I don't think they would be enough. Not sure if there is coverage elsewhere, such as in beer trade media, but I think it needs a few more sources. Maybe just a few tags including a notability one and then let it simmer for a few months. As to the COTM, currently we are not doing individual editor notices. public figures
Hi, public figures go by the names that they are called by in person, or the names their institutions list them as. Referenced sources can be twisted to produce a different name, but the name requested by the subject should be used if the sources are sufficient to represent both. - Look at the history of the article and you will see I previsouly reverted the addition of his fist name until the anon editor provided a source. So, he announced in public in front of a large crowd what his first name is. Further, your note above does nothing to explain the other change you made. Please read ALL of BLP to understand it, and note all of the items are sourced, which is mostly what BLP is about. His ex-wife is also arguably a public figure given her former position, but more importantly, it was sourced. I will now revert you again, and please take point me to the discussion where the subject made this request so that it can be properly vetted and analyzed. I really question your personal involvement here, since his family is not notable, neither is his family relevant to his notability. I really don't see the added value to Wikipedia to include this, and BTW he is also not the first Afro-American president of a college or university, so there is much more wrong with this article than the names. Anyway, I don't own the article, but have invested a lot of time trying to police it. As to saying it is perfectly reasonable to include his first name, that rings hollow when you removed it from everywhere. So to does your assertion that his family is not notable, which has two problems: 1) one of his wives was/is a public figure; 2) notability does not limit inclusion. BLP does to an extent, due to privacy, but the bigger picture you need to realize is this is a biography, and biographies include personal details, as that is what makes a biography. Biographies are not just mentions of a subject's notable feats, as otherwise dates of birth and where he grew up are not notable either, but they are what make for a good biography. - Sorry, I was confused because yes, I know the subject and all his kids quite well and thought I made it clear in my editing summary that I was acting on his request, which was a perfectly reasonable one. I was under the impression that you were deliberately badmouthing him, but now I understand who you are and would like to extend thanks for policing his article since 2007. I am a bit confused why you feel one of his wives was a public figure, but I have never lived in Oregon so I don't know. I guess you weren't aware that his first name is not the name he is called by. The information about the names of his family members is not necessary on Wikipedia for his level for notability and removing that is a perfectly normal thing to do for a BLP, which I did on his request. Your statement in the lead about "first..." is in fact incorrect, but he was one of the first ten, so not a big error. I put his page on my watch list, but I normally edit 17th century painters and not BLP's, so I'll leave it to you. Sorry for the confusion, but maybe you should mail him yourself for his WP complaints/queries? As for the other edits you mention, at least two of these were done by his daughter, and we discussed this with the three of us as I explained the up- and downsides of including such info on Wikipedia. - Sorry about the AGF, but I simply have a higher standard for admins, especially when wielding the speedy delete power. Now if you are referring to the part about not checking sources, I actually would not expect you to nor hold it against you prior to a standard CSD, as there is no requirement for such. I would assume someone tagged it for CSD and you came along and didn't think it was notable either and hit delete. The disconnect I see is there is a bare assertion of notability in that he plays professional basketball. Not enough to actually be notable on its own, but just enough to prevent A7 - "The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source or does not qualify on Wikipedia's notability guidelines." (emphasis added) Plus "There is strong consensus that the creators and major contributors of pages and media files should be warned of a speedy deletion nomination (or of the deletion if not informed prior thereto)." which if you look at the article history would have required me to be notified. Nice article on Hillsboro Fire Department. Saw that Hillsboro Fire and Rescue logo was very small. It's not a big deal, but I found larger version that still has very good resolution. Hillsboro is an American city of 95,000 people in the Portland metropolitan area of Oregon. It is the fifth-largest city in the state and serves as the county seat of Washington County. Located in the Tualatin Valley on the west side of Portland, Hillsboro is home to many high-technology companies, such as Intel (one campus pictured) and TriQuint, which compose what has become known as the Silicon Forest. Other important sectors to the economy are health care, retail, and agriculture (including grapes and local wineries). Now very often when I try to search the page "Nagbhushan Patnaik" in google , one link takes me to my user sandbox page which has been edited.How can I fix it? Please guide . Hi there. Thanks for reviewing British Virgin Islands company law. Normally I don't trouble to quibble with the results of reviews, but I think "start" class ('An article that is developing, but which is quite incomplete and, most notably, lacks adequate reliable sources.') was a bit perfunctory for an article that weighs in at 28,667 bytes and is extensively footnoted throughout. Don't want to make a big deal out of it, but if you are going to do a review, do please take the time to assess the size and scope of the article, and the extent of the cited authorities. - And I would agree now, but check when the assessment was done, and it was not 28,667 bytes. Since the review you added two sections. As it was, whole sections lacked inline citations, while "Registering a company" was also unsourced as the only footnote was a comment. So, to echo your point, if you are going to question my assessment, please take the time to assess the scope of what was assessed as I'm not clairvoyant enough to know what changes you plan on making. As it stands now, it would be a C class, B if you were to cite some things in the currently uncited "History" & "Financial services regulation" sections and beef up the citations to "Registering a company" and "Shares and shareholders". Mentor needed
I have a friend whose father recently died. I think he was a notable person but I am not clear on the criteria. He was an artist, a published author and a professor. Also he was a grandson of the notable Oregon Trail pioneer Elizabeth Goltra. His name is Stephen Goltra Gilbert and he was born and raised in Oregon and he became one of those unusual species seldom found in the art world; an artist with a paycheck. His art largely concerned the human anatomy and he did many textbook illustrations for the medical school. It wasn't all humans. He published some guides for biology class dissection of frogs and so on. There are a half dozen of his books currently listed on Amazon. His avocation was tattooing and he also published a well received book on tattoo history. If you are curious why I chose you for help in this project, it is because your name is all over the Oregon Pioneer History page and both you and Anne graduated from OSU.
One more thing. I think given the interest by multiple universities on the writings of Elizabeth Goltra there should be a subsection on your Pioneer History page which will direct users to her writings. I suppose she could have her own page but I think the page you currently have up is well suited unless there is some push to have more exposure for Women in History. Year of death unknown - or just missing?
Hello, Aboutmovies! I noticed you added Category:Year of death unknown to Michelle Elisabeth d'Ivry. Her year of death (and maybe birth) is not unknown, just not mentioned in the reference. Another reference may mention it. I suggest, that you use the Category:Year of death missing and save Category:Year of death unknown for the cases when the year of death are confirmed to be unknown, otherwise some articles which are currently missing year of death may never be improved, even though they could be. - I agree this could be hard to tell sometimes. True, it depends upon time and place. In this case, this was about Sweden, were the records are good enough for anyone to be able to find the year of death until about the year of 1700 at least. d'Ivrys year of death occurred in the 1790s, as it occurred under the minor regency of Gustaf IV Adolf, and though unfortunately not mentioned in the referenced works (which I have read), its bound to be added sooner or later as it is in the Stockholm city death records. I admit I am not sure about the record in all European countries, but it seem to be wise to use the "Missing" at least back to the year 1700 when it comes to European countries.--Aciram (talk) 19:08, 8 March 2014 (UTC)

Did you meana that the section titled "External Links" should be removed (like I did yesterday)in Amin Mahmoud (politician) or does it mean that the links within the main text that point to external non-wiki pages need to be removed - e.g. the link we have to the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation in the Presidencies section??
When I look at established biography pages, like Tony Blair's or Barack Obama's, they all seem have an "External Links" section - but I noticed that all the links in the main text of those biographies point to wiki pages rather than external pages...
Also, the guidelines at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:External_links say:
2. External links should not normally be used in the body of an article.[1] Instead, include appropriate external links in an "External links" section at the end of the article, and in the appropriate location within an infobox, if applicable.

Help! - Ann-Sophie Qvarnström
It all started with an earnest interest in translating Swedish articles into English. (I know…”The road to hell is paved with…etc.”) I began with an article about a friend, since it is always best to start with something or someone close to home and then venture further out when you know what to do. Also I know she will not kill me if I screw up.
At first I just translated the Swedish article. But this did not meet with the new guide lines. So I re-wrote the entire article in both languages. After this came the question on notability. I wrote some things about this on the articles talk page. Afraid to post it anywhere else.
Then suddenly the article is a biography! And it has been named a stub and more information is required. I thought that biographies were just for really famous people! So I am totally at a loss on how to proceed. I have no trouble asking her about things, but she will surely think that the minor details of her life are of no interest to the general public. Sometimes Swedish modesty is a great obstacle.

- OK, any article about a person is a biography. Then, with any article there is the notability requirements. Now, this is not directly tied to the length of the article, so don't worry about it being a stub or being short. What you need to do is demonstrate she is notable, and that is not done by asking her questions. Quite the opposite in fact. What you need to do is go through media sources (think newspapers, magazines, TV/radio) to find where there is in-depth coverage of her. That is what notability is, where the world stops and takes note of a topic, and not in a quick 15 minutes of fame way. Here is an example of a recent biography I did Miller M. Duris, and if you look at the references you will see lots of coverage over many years. The more in-depth coverage in a source, the more notability it confers. - Thank You so much! This is excellent advice and easy to follow guide lines. I understand it better now. But it will be a challenge since I´m more of a translator than researcher. Also because there isn´t much written about the early years of RPG in Sweden. She and her co-workers were pioneers and thought of it more as “a hobby” and the rest of society saw it as “kids play”. But they shaped a generation of gamers. This is one of the first articles to put it all together. Through this I will probably end up writhing the whole history of Swedish RPG rather than just translating! Noob question
Hi -- I'm new to Wikipedia, and thought I'd dive in by editing an entry on a local company (FLIR Systems, Inc.). Apparently, my changes were not up to standards and were too PR-ish. That was not my intent at all. I honestly think there is more to their story than is currently being told. My question is this: I have re-written the entry to try to comply better with Wikipedia's voice and tone (as I have come to think of it), am wondering if there is a way to get this new copy reviewed for suitability before I post it. I don't want to cause any hard feelings or get a bad rep for posting things that have to be continually taken down because they're not up to snuff. Any suggestions? Many thanks. - Ampersand82 - Thank you for reaching out, as yes, the prior attempts were writing too much like a PR piece. The first place to start is to look at Featured Articles about companies. Featured articles are the top of the line articles that have gone through peer review, so those are the examples to follow as to style, in addition to things such as WP:TONE and WP:UNDUE and WP:NOT. Now, FLIR's article would probably not be as big as an article on say Microsoft, as Microsoft has been covered by the media for decades, and FLIR is relatively new, and much smaller. But it is a good example of what we look for as to the Wikipedia style/tone.
- Once you have reviewed some of those and make any adjustments to what you have drafted, the best thing to do is to then post the draft on the article's talk page. Then give it some time (and I apologize it may take a week or two for people to chime in) for other editors to take a look and offer comments. As to prior changes, here are a few observations: avoid short paragraphs of a sentence or two; don't do Tigard, OR, as we spell those out on Wikipedia (keep in mind this is a global resource and someone in Germany may not know what that abbreviation means); no your reader, which relates to the prior comment about globalization, but also note this is a general encyclopedia and not just for investors or business readers, so it needs to be accessible to the general public; and cite, cite, cite your sources (and be sure they are relaible sources per Wikipedia). B14.) and anything with a URL should have an access date (I'd suggest using a citation tool); FLIR, FLIR, FLIR gets a bit repetitive and annoying, use it and the company occasionally to break it up; in 1993, in 1996, in 1999, in 2001 also gets repetitive, so try moving the year around in the sentences to where it is varied, which will make the history section feel less like a timeline and more like a history; and avoid bulleted lists, we prefer prose. Categorization
Hello.
I saw your revert. If "this is the standard categorization scheme", then the majority of the "Mayors of Foo" categories are miscategorized. See Category:American politicians by city. I only changed four, to conform to the majority.
Several categories of the type "Foo City Council members" are also missing where the category "Mayors of Foo" exists, e.g. for Hartford, Connecticut (which can be found in the above category tree), so what to do there?
By the way, where is the standard categorization scheme documented?

- As to having mayor cats but not city councilor cats, mayors are usually more notable than plain city councilors, so the later have simply not been made yet. Honestly, I think many people fail to realize in many cases, mayors are also members of the council. As this link discusses, the also a member of the council is more common, but bigger cities tend not to use that model. As such, since it is the bigger cities that tend to have these cats on Wikipedia, the non-member is more common on Wikipedia. Which means, this has to be taken on a case-by-case basis, as in this instance, Hillsboro mayors are also city councilor's (which is why the mayor voted last week). Anyway, my example is the only other Oregon city with a councilors cat Portland. Aboutmovies (talk) 07:02, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for weighing-in on High Desert Discovery Scenic Byway article. You are right about the Wiki-Roads folks (at least one of them)…they want things their way. I’ve been carrying on one-on-one discussion with User:Imzadi1979 on his Talk Page; and it’s pretty clear routes must be addressed south-to-north even when their own rules say to follow the mile post progression and there’s video evidence that Discovery byway/OR 205 is numbered north-to-south. I would have probably re-written the article to comply with Wiki-Road’s rule if the mile posts went the other way. However, it bothers me when editor quotes Wiki-Roads rule and then ignore the same rule when my case turns out to be a bona fide exception. You are invited to participate in Wiki Loves Pride, a global campaign to create and improve LGBT-related content at Wikipedia during the month of June, culminating with a multinational edit-a-thon on June 21. The project is being spearheaded by two organizers with roots in the Pacific Northwest. Meetups are being organized in some cities, or you can participate remotely. One is a photography campaign called "Pride PDX", for pictures related to LGBT culture and history. Differences between Start and C class articles
You recently gave a Start class rating to the Law of New Jersey, Law of North Carolina, and Law of Pennsylvania articles, but gave a C class rating to the Law of Ohio article. What is the difference between them? Int21h (talk) 22:53, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

Harry V. Gates - slight edit
Hi AboutMovies -
First off, great job on all your work. My wife was thrilled to discover the Harry V Gates entry, as she is his great-great-granddaughter. We then found all of your articles, many of which are interesting to us as native Oregonians (now living in Idaho).
One discrepancy she found, as she has been pursuing family history, is that Harry actually had four children, one of whom, John, only lived into his late 20s. So his three surviving children at the time of Harry's death are who got picked up in obituary material.
I'd be happy to make the edit, but she's going off Ancestry.com records, and not the contradicting (1) and (3) references in the article. I wonder how this might be done in keeping with proper Wikipedia protocol?

- The problem with Ancestry.com is we do not consider it a reliable source. This is because it is similar to Wikipedia in that much of the content is user generated. So it can become circular. As an FYI, you cannot cite from one Wikipedia article to another for that same reason. However, sometimes the content on Ancestry.com is supported by other documentation, such as Census records, and often times we can cite to those documents. Or see if you can find some other source, such as another obituary. The source does not have to be online, just verifiable to someone (such as a newspaper archived at your local library, just provide enough of a citation to where someone could potential check). The why is because I try to make new users' first message from Wikipedia not negative. Often time the first message a new user gets is about how they did something wrong, so I try to counter that, plus then provide new users with some helpful links.
