User Permissions Test... Again
- What is a permission? More abilities than other users here on the wiki
- What pages are un-registered users able to edit? The ones that aren’t protected or semi- protected
- What is an auto confirmed account? the account has to be around four days old and make 10 edits to be granted like to registered users. users that are autoconfirmed have normal access to wikipedia
- What permissions do registered accounts have? You can edit any page that is not all the way protected, moving and creating pages, and uploading pictures and such
- Who can grant rollback? admins & sysops
- What privileges do acccountcreators have and why? To create accounts that are not profane names, to create an account for someone who doen’t want to.
- Who can grant accountcreator and how do you request it? Sysop’s talkpage
- What does rollback enable you to do? Reverting multiple edits of vandalism at a time
- What should you not use rollback for? Content disputes and such
- What are administrators able to do? access to the rollbacker and accountcreator permission and grant rollbacker accountcreator to other users
- How do you request adminship? On the RfA
- What are bureaucrats main duties? they have control over the technical things of permissions
Hope I passed! And I also hope you get to be sucsessful in being an admin!!! --i-am-entertainU (talk) 22:58, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Jason Kay
The article on Jason Kay is poorly worded, help me fix it. -- 86.47.161.201 (talk) 12:34, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- HI there. I would suggest you bring this up on the article talk page. If you need some links for how it could / should be re worded please ask. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 12:38, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry I do have a registered account but I only use it when I'm not in work and on my home computer, and even then I only make small edits to Wikipedia, most of which are edits I wish I never needed to make. There are systemic problems in Wikipedia which really need more automated testing to avoid obvious problems such as poor spelling and grammar and style that is not in keeping with Wikipedia style rules. It is unrealistic to expect anyone to know all these rules and worse than that a waste of time to expect people to correct such mundane mistakes (mistakes that happen over and over others will even revert back to). It is not an easy skill to know the difference between news writing and encyclopedia writing, so much so that many writers do not even see there is a problem with their use of "current" and "recently" (and even in good news writing one needs to careful and avoid too much ambiguity). I fix things little things as I go but I simply do not have the patience to take on the entrenched forces of Wikipedia who do not seem to even recognise there is a problem. So thanks for your time and taking an interest and best of luck and I'll keep doing what I was doing but be a little more careful about the inline comments in the text in future. -- 86.47.161.201 (talk) 16:21, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- OK and again thanks for letting me know :). Keep up the small edits! If you ever need help in the future feel free to ask me -·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 16:27, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Adminship
Hello.
I'm considering nominating you to become an admin.
At your last RfA, one of the reasons you were criticised was because so much of your user interaction is through templated messages via Huggle etc.
Can you point to some recent discussions you've been involved with that show you discussing issues with other users, engaging in debate and not "drive by" commenting? Please post some diffs to my talk page.
Cheers --Dweller (talk) 15:12, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- Dweller just stole my idea - I came here to offer to nominate you (I'm amazed you're not an administrator yet) and found that message. If you want a co-nom, I'll do it. =) DendodgeTalkContribs 15:14, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

- I accept and will get onto the rfa page in an hour or two. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 16:16, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'll probably be offline, so please feel free to transclude it yourself once you are done, being careful to reset the clock on the end of the RfA to 7 days from that time. Or, feel free to drop a line to another admin or crat and ask them to do it for you. --Dweller (talk) 16:45, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Request to reconsider vandalism label
Hi. :) I'm concerned about your labeling of these edits--here & here--as vandalism. Adding hidden notes to the article as the IP editor did in the first instance is obviously a graceless way to discuss a problem with text, but unless there's a history with this contributor that I'm unaware of, I don't believe such edits with such edit summaries should be viewed as vandalism--intentional disruption. They seem like clearly good faith edits to me, particularly with those edit summaries. I'd like to ask you to consider striking those warnings or removing them, since this seems to be a stable good faith IP contributor, and displaying such notices may lead future contributors who interact with him not to extend good faith. Of course, the IP editor can remove them (I don't know if he knows that, since he seems inexperienced with some facets of Wikipedia), but that removal would only be interpreted as "warning received." I'm watching your talk page and would be happy to discuss this further. Thanks. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:48, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:02, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- (EC) =[ Hi there and thanks for noticing this error in my ways =].
- I agree, after looking at them again, that they are good faith edits. I have removed the warnings from the ip's talk page and I have replaced them with a little message. I hope the editor continues to edit and help Wikipedia :). As ever I know I am not perfect and I do make mistakes so thanks for finding these. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 15:05, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- Well, perfection is a pretty high bar. :D The only reason I'm currently watching your page is because you noted and addressed a mistake of mine, so, quid pro quo. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:11, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- Perfection is indeed a very high bar :). And i wouldn't call it a mistake on your part. More a forgetful moment :p ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 15:13, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Cyndi Lauper discography
Removing discography, pasted from Cyndi Lauper discography]--Moonriddengirl (talk) 00:47, 31 October 2008 (UTC) Okay, this is the one I recently edited and I don't know you keep changing it back. Why? This is a list of the STUDIO albums released by Lauper (excluding Christmas, EPs, Cover/Standard, and Re-recorded Compilations). You should notice that those albums are listed in the Others: section. So please explain to me why you keep changing it? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Huney dani (talk • contribs) 00:30, 31 October 2008
- Hi. ·Add§hore· is evidently not online at the moment, but I thought to point out to you that according to the edit history of that article, Addshore has never edited it. He is not the one changing your edits. That history shows who changed your edits and in one case provides some information: "rv removal of albums with no explanation, fix table". You may wish to note in the edit summary that you are removing redundant listings. Also, with respect to certification claims it says "remove unsourced certification claims". You can counter that one best by providing a reliable sources to verify that what you say is true. (See WP:CITE for more information.) I've removed the discography section from this page as it is rather a lot of material and isn't necessary for this conversation. If you want to refer to specifics, you can do it by linking (as I did) to the article. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 00:47, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

- I usually block people using the MediaWiki Special:BlockIP and then warn them with Xenocidic's modified twinklewarn.js script, which makes the block options show up by default rather than the level 1 warnings. I also removed the ARV module, since I don't ever report people any more. J.delanoygabsadds 20:45, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

User:Xenocidic/twinklewarn.js. Here's the Twinkle modules that I use, the others don't seem to be useful to me. I have the bottom one commented out because I don't typically use it, but it is useful for cleaning up after page-move vandalism if no one has one of their Grawp-detection scripts running at the moment, and it is easier to just uncomment it than to try to remember what it is called. French commune infoboxes
Hi congrats on adminship BTW. Good to see an admin promoted who actually has a decent mainspace edit count. We have a large back log of French commune articles to add the infoboxes from French wikipedia Status check. All that needs doing is copying the infobox directly from the French wikipedia equivalent and with some slight changes. Please see Vulaines. All that needs doing for each article is cutting and pasting the infobox from French wiki into every article which must be bot compatible. So for Vulaines all it requires is pasting the infobox into it from here and pasting it into the english wiki article. COuld you please help programme a bot or use some form of coding to help complete the task in hours rather than months? Count Blofeld 12:49, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

- The reason that I blocked that IP for a week was that they had multiple months of vandalism, Also in the end they received seven warning for this month and after the final warning they continued to vandalize. Also thanks for the comments :), really helpful! ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:24, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- Just remember that blocks are protective not punitive...especially when dealing with an IP. Just because the user has a months worth of vandalism, does not necessarily mean they need a longer block than any other IP. Remember, it is a school IP, so vandalism is very common, and even more common is the fact that t he IP changes hands. So the person responsible for the most recent vandalism was probably different than that of the person who vandalized a week or month ago. Tiptoety talk 21:56, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Re: ACC tool
Hey Addshore. In response to your query, Elite Rhodes (Death Ball 102) created the account first time around, and the user received their confirmation e-mail from ACC. Since the account had already been created, and the user had already received their ACC confirmation when the request was originally marked as created, I dropped the request.
I became aware of the request due to the accounts-enwiki-l conversation ([Accounts-enwiki-l] English Wikipedia Account Request) between Elite Rhodes and the requesting user, which caught my eye – see my reply for more info on that one. haz (talk) 11:37, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Hello,
I'm rather new to wikipedia, so I'm not sure if I'm asking the correct person... However maybe you could help: In the Action Aid wiki page, there is a line titled "Criticisms". There you can find a link that does not work. It is note [1] at the end. I think this line was added by you - but I am not sure (!) How could I fix this?
Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.202.163.114 (talk) 14:31, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- Hi there.
- The link now works. The link was not meant to go to an off site page but was meant to take you down to one of the notes or references on the page. Unfortunately no one had added such a section so the link just sat there. I have now added the section so the link should now work. RFA neutral
you thanked me for my neutral vote on your RfA, giving as explanation for your use of templates as "When I "templated" the users that you brought up in my RFA the templates were not the same for all of the users. I tried to send out the message in an easy and understandable way to all of the users while trying not to be to templatey. Due to the amount of people I sent the message to not using templates would be impractical." I was already aware of this explanation (which is totally reasonable) when I gave my neutral vote as I had read all the information on the RfA. It was indeed the reason I voted neutral rather than oppose. I would have supported if something I had read had "gripped" me and given me the feeling that you where a "good" candidate but Balloonman and Banime 's opinions and your responses just took the edge off the nomination for me. I am, however, sure you have taken on board the comments and the advantage of the current RfA system is everyone gets to have their say. About a neutral point of view
Yes, it "should" be a neutral point of view!
The article "Korea" is about Korea. However, this particular article is at several places out of a neutral point of view. Let me give you a couple examples:
- The sea to the east of Korea, of course, should be the "East Sea (Sea of Korea)"; the Japanese may write it as the Sea of Japan in an article about Japan. Both names have been used for several hundred years, the East Sea or the Sea of Korea preceding by several more hundred years.
- If you write the names of islands in your country, you write them as used in your country using a proper English expression for each case. In this article, some islands are cited: Jeju-do, Ulleung-do, and Liancourt Rocks (Dokdo in Korean). Do you notice a peculiarity? Of course, by common sense, it should be: Jeju-do, Ulleung-do, and Dok-do (Liancourt Rocks). If some Japanese (or other who knows some history of Korea) might want to include the Liancourt Rocks--a French/English name. Jeju-do also has an English name.
I cannot avoid the thinking of some Japanese interest in this article--they claim Dok-do to be their own territory while it has been a Korean territory for more than a thousand years.
- One sentence from the article: Ulleung-do is a volcanic island in the Sea of Japan, whose composition is more felsic than Jeju-do.
If this article is about Korea, it should be written in a neutral point of view like this: Ulleung-do is a volcanic island in the East See (Sea of Japan), whose composition is more felsic than Jeju-do.
Please read the article about Japan. They "never" state it like the Sea of Japan (East Sea). If an article about Korea writes the East Sea (Sea of Japan), is it wrong while in an article about Japan they never do a similar job?
- If you respect a "neutral point of view" and have balanced knowledge of the history of Korea and Japan, please really respect the point of view you emphasize, not affected by any political or historial favoritism.
I appreciate very much your careful concern about the article. Boolosan (talk) 07:32, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
- I am not familiar with the article but from what you have shown me I have to agree with your concerns. Again as I am not familiar with the article and it appears that you are I suggest that you edit the article and change the points that you have told me about in this message.
- If you require further assistance or help feel free to ask me here. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:59, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
Copy of deleted page
Hey there, I was hoping you could supply me a copy of the deleted page Drayson Bowman. Bowman is an ice hockey player whose article was deleted on the basis that he is still in the junior ranks. However, as he is drafted and signed by an NHL club, joining the professional ranks is inevitable within the near future. There was a substantial amount of work and research done on his article before it was deleted and if I had a copy of the page to restore as soon as he merited an article on Wikipedia, a lot of time would be saved. Is this a possibility? Thanks. Orlandkurtenbach (talk) 07:43, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Addbot
Hi Addshore. I thought schoolblock templates should not be substed, as the instructions they contain are likely to change. The template documentation says as much. Additionally, I reverted one of your edits[3]. -- zzuuzz (talk) 02:07, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
- There are several other templates on the list you are working through which should not be substed as they are subject to updated information. Specifically, please don't subst any of the proxy or Tor templates, as they often need updating. These are all but listed at WP:SUBST as templates which should not be substed. New bot idea
If you're still interested in building a new one... NPPBot.
It wouldn't need to be very complex:
- scan Special:NewPages for the oldest non-patrolled edit
- Do a little math: 720 hours minus (today's date minus date of oldest non-patrolled edit)
- Paste that result into a template (which I will make)
- Scan every three hours
Is this something you can do and would be interested in doing? [roux » x] 03:45, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
- Yep I am pretty sure it is something that I should be able to do! :)
- Roughly what would the template look like though? ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:40, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
- Probably just something like:
NPP Buffer is now | 31 hours |
- Where the 31 would be the number written by the bot, and I'd probably code in some #if statements to change the colour, similar to the vandalism threat level templates. Would it be easier to have the bot just write a number to a subpage and have the template call that page? [roux » x] 07:50, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
- Nah i can put the number in the template easily :). Maybe User:Addbot/NPP Buffer or something. I will try to work on it tonight! ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:57, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

It looked to happen with just one edit [6] and {{Nothanks-sd}} being the template in question. It wound up completely erasing the user's talk page. Joke
Here's a better one: A man and wife were celebrating their 50-year anniversary, so the man bought his wife a $250 see-through nightgown.
Later that night she was getting ready for bed and realized the nightgown was still in the box downstairs. Walking naked through the house, she passed her husband who said, "My word, for $250 they could've at least ironed it!"

- Yeah, but the Huggle code seems to be a (no offense) absolute mess. I ended up writing my own code to do this. In Huggle it was first getting the data from custom class ("Edit") and I jumped around to different functions to find out what does what a million times I just did it myself :D. How do you like the app, though? DavidWS (contribs) 21:05, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Request
Hi, You were refered to me by : ImperatorExercitus I really hope you can help.
An overzealous friend of mine tried to write an Article about me for Wikipedia. I didn't meet the criteria, no problem. But now when some one google searches my name, this comes up -
My name From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search
This page has been deleted. The deletion log for the page is provided below for reference.
* 03:30, 7 November 2008 Esanchez7587 (Talk | contribs) deleted "Your name" (G1: Patent nonsense, meaningless, or incomprehensible) * 02:41, 7 November 2008 Esanchez7587 (Talk | contribs) deleted "Your name" (G1: Patent nonsense, meaningless, or incomprehensible) * 06:11, 6 November 2008 J.delanoy (Talk | contribs) deleted "Your name" (Speedy deleted per (CSD A7), was an article about a real person that didn't assert the importance or significance of its subject. (TW))
Which is very embarrassing for me when potential clients Google search me.
Is it possible to erase my Name and Title from Wikipedia? Or is there any way to have these messages erased and "No File" or something come up instead?
I am in an Industry were my name is constantly Google searched. I have problably lost Business over this and I have definatly lost sleep. Is there some way The deletion log can left off or blank so its just my name people see and all the embarassing stuff isn't there until it is finally gone. Will it ever be gone? People talk about Web-Bots but I don't know how that works. I didn't try to write an article about myself so this has been a total Nightmare. I'll do anything to fix this just let me know.
With hope I await your reply.Powershape (talk) 04:59, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
- I made it so the article cannot be re-created, however, what you are seeing on Google is Google's cache of the page. In 30 days or so it should disappear and no one will be linked to the deletion log from Google. MBisanz talk 05:02, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Hiya
I rearranged AIV Console so it is in a much nicer layout per J.delanoy's idea, and I fixed an annoying bug. Now, ladies and gentlemen, a joke:
One day, a little boy wrote to Santa Clause, "Please send me a sister." Santa Clause wrote him back, "Ok, send me your mother." Cheers, DavidWS (contribs) 01:08, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

- You're welcome. Hey, I set up the subversion repo on googlecode. Want me to set you as a project leader/member/whatever? If so, email me. Your random joke:
There was this American tourist in Mexico, and he was getting tired of walking around, so he went up to a donkey rental place and said, Can I rent a donkey?' The guy said, "We don't call them donkeys here, we call them asses. This is the only ass I have left, and you have to scratch him when you want to make him stop." The guy rides his ass for a while, sees a hotdog stand, and asks for a hotdog. The vendor replies, "We don't call them hotdogs here we call the wieners."
Meanwhile his donkey is wandering away, so he goes up to another tourist and says "Will you hold my wiener whille I scratch my ass?"

- You'd also commented at the Rfa about my report of User:Fullyang to WP:UAA. I had actually created that account per an Account Creation request as part of my duties on the account creation team. I didn't notice until after I'd created it that the e-mail address was using the Fullyang.com domain name. As someone who's also active in account creation, I'd like to hear your thoughts on that. What should I have done differently?--Aervanath lives in the Orphanage 03:43, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
- No problem for the support as I think you deserve it :) regarding you second question. I probably would not have reported it to UAA straight away. Maybe watched its contributions and latter, if anything poped up, reported it to UAA AIV or maybe ANI. For the account creation side I would probably have done exactly what you did and create the account and notice latter. I thin the account should still have a chance of normal use though and not just top be blocked.·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 09:26, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's the feedback I've been getting from the others who commented on that issue. Just goes to show, even admins (especially me!) have stuff still to learn. Cheers!--Aervanath lives in the Orphanage 15:10, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

- No you cannot stop the substing bot from editing specific pages or users edits. The bot is currently run twice a day and will only act upon edits that it sees at those two points in the day. If you fix your mistke then the bot will not act upon it. All the bot does is gets a template and adds Subst: too it. p.s. Nice joke·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:54, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

The RfA Barnstar | ||
Addshore, I would like to thank you for your participation in my recent Request for Adminship, which passed with 112 supports, 4 opposes and 5 neutrals. A special mention goes out to Stwalkerster and Pedro for nominating me, thanks a lot for having trust in me! In response to the neutrals, I will try to double check articles that have been tagged for speedy deletion before I CSD them and will start off slowly with the drama boards of ANI and AN to ensure that I get used to them. In response to the oppose !votes on my RfA, I will check that any images I use meet the non-free content criteria and will attempt to handle any disputes or queries as well as I can. If you need my help at all, feel free to simply ask at my talk page and I'll see if I can help. Once again, thank you for your participation, and have a great day! :) The Helpful One 22:15, 25 November 2008 (UTC) |

Possible bot bug
Hello! Was just curious as to why your bot nominated this article for speedy deletion. The edit was [8], at that time the article had been changed to a redirect. I declined the speedy and reverted to the last version that had content, perhaps the bot could check if previous revisions of an article that redirects to itself contain content before speedy flagging? Seraphimblade Talk to me 20:43, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
- The reason for the bots tag is clear as it was redirecting to itself therefor fitting the critera. Bots are not the cleverest of things but I will see if i can manage to build somehting into it to look at previous diffs, But this may be worth less than the ammount of extra time / resources it will take.
- This bug is the reason the bot tags for CSD / Admin attention instead of a bot just deleting it. Thanks for the report. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 23:33, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
Help categorizing Images
I requested a bot for categorizing Bulgaria-related images by adding {{WikiProject Bulgaria|class=Image}} to Bulgaria-realted image talkpages, on the Wikipedia:Bot requests page. i was directed towards your bot as a pre-existing bot that could help, however I am not sure how to ask it to do this. Could you please explain how I can apply for your bot to help categorize the images?--P.Marlow (talk) 19:01, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- As i have never done a wikiproject tagging bot before is there any chance you could expand a little on what it needs to look through. Then what it needs to look for on those pages and then what it needs to does when it finds that thing e.t.c? ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 09:34, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
- I am not exactly sure how a bot works, but I can see what you mean. Well, one easy thing for it to look through is article pages which have the {{WikiProject Bulgaria}} banner on their talk pages. Then if there is an images on that page, it would then tag them on their talk pages by adding the {{WikiProject Bulgaria|class=Image}} banner to the top of the talk pages. Another way to find pages which are related to Bulgaria, (and might have images), would be to look through the many categories that are related to bulgaria, (see categories), for example the Category:Bulgaria page. Eventually the idea is that Category:Image-Class Bulgaria articles would end up as directory of images for WikiProject Bulgaria.
- I realize that this might not be a viable idea, or that it could be one that would be very difficult for a bot to execute, so please tell me if you think that it might not work so that I can see if someone else might be able to help.--P.Marlow (talk) 23:33, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
- I would love to help but I am a bit stuk for time recently. Your best bet is to try someone that already has a Wikiproject tagging bot. Thanks. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:41, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
