WP:INDIA

Hi greetings, thank you for your efforts on creating the newsletter. I'd like to share an information about the project. There were a quiz competition held as a part of project and now it is inactive. I'd like to re-activate it. The current round was in the brim of ending. So I think a fresh round will be better (a new start). We can end this round by declaring the top user as winner and start a new one. The information about quiz can be added in newsletter. Thank you.--PATH SLOPU 16:14, 24 October 2019 (UTC)

Ratnakar (2019 film)

Hello..You have recently reverted my edit which was a short description about the movie mentioned. The Current short description is "2019 Indian Assamese-language" which is confusing. I think there should be the the word "Film" or "Movie" to give it a proper form. Thanks Abhroneel 15:58, 31 October 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ankur Jyoti Dewri (talkcontribs)

Ankur Jyoti Dewri Hey thanks for leaving a message. The reason I had reverted your pending changes is that you added another short description. To edit a short description {{short description|2019 Indian Assamese-language by Jatin Bora}} simply edit this code in the curly brackets rather than adding a new one. No problems I have gone and added film part to the short description. Thanks. CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 12:32, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

New Page Review newsletter November 2019

Hello CAPTAIN MEDUSA,

This newsletter comes a little earlier than usual because the backlog is rising again and the holidays are coming very soon.

Getting the queue to 0

There are now 805 holders of the New Page Reviewer flag! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog but it's still roughly less than 10% doing 90% of the work. Now it's time for action.
Exactly one year ago there were 'only' 3,650 unreviewed articles, now we will soon be approaching 7,000 despite the growing number of requests for the NPR user right. If each reviewer soon does only 2 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by every reviewer doing only 1 review every 2 days - that's only a few minutes work on the bus on the way to the office or to class! Let's get this over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.
Want to join? Consider adding the NPP Pledge userbox.
Our next newsletter will announce the winners of some really cool awards.

Coordinator

Admin Barkeep49 has been officially invested as NPP/NPR coordinator by a unanimous consensus of the community. This is a complex role and he will need all the help he can get from other experienced reviewers.

This month's refresher course

Paid editing is still causing headaches for even our most experienced reviewers: This official Wikipedia article will be an eye-opener to anyone who joined Wikipedia or obtained the NPR right since 2015. See The Hallmarks to know exactly what to look for and take time to examine all the sources.

Tools
  • It is now possible to select new pages by date range. This was requested by reviewers who want to patrol from the middle of the list.
  • It is now also possible for accredited reviewers to put any article back into the New Pages Feed for re-review. The link is under 'Tools' in the side bar.
Reviewer Feedback

Would you like feedback on your reviews? Are you an experienced reviewer who can give feedback to other reviewers? If so there are two new feedback pilot programs. New Reviewer mentorship will match newer reviewers with an experienced reviewer with a new reviewer. The other program will be an occasional peer review cohort for moderate or experienced reviewers to give feedback to each other. The first cohort will launch November 13.

Second set of eyes
  • Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work, especially while some routine tagging for deletion can still be carried out by non NPR holders and inexperienced users. Read about it at the Monitoring the system section in the tutorial. If you come across such editors doing good work, don't hesitate to encourage them to apply for NPR.
  • Do be sure to have our talk page on your watchlist. There are often items that require reviewers' special attention, such as to watch out for pages by known socks or disruptive editors, technical issues and new developments, and of course to provide advice for other reviewers.
Arbitration Committee

The annual ArbCom election will be coming up soon. All eligible users will be invited to vote. While not directly concerned with NPR, Arbcom cases often lead back to notability and deletion issues and/or actions by holders of advanced user rights.

Community Wish list

There is to be no wish list for WMF encyclopedias this year. We thank Community Tech for their hard work addressing our long list of requirements which somewhat overwhelmed them last year, and we look forward to a successful completion.

Tags on articles

Hi. First, thanks for all you do on WP, especially over at NPP. I reverted the tags you placed on two stubs I created, and wanted to explain my rationale. First, the refimprove tag: My understanding is that this tag should only be used on beyond stub articles which either have unreferenced info, or insufficient in-line footnotes. However, on the template page (Template:More citations needed), it states in the usage section, "Don't use this tag for articles that contain no unreferenced material, even if all the material is supported by a single citation." Since all the information in the stub comes from the AFI source, this then would not be an appropriate tag. I used to use this tag in like instances as well, but now use either the "single source" tag (which I have added to both of the pages you tagged). Second, the update tag should only be used when info on the page is out of date. This is normally used on articles which are currently in flux, or articles which include information which needs updating on a routine basis (daily, monthly, yearly), such as [List of United States cities by population]], which needs to be updated every time a new census or estimated population count comes out. There's nothing in a stub about an almost 100 year old film which needs updating. These are very basic stubs, and while both films meet WP:NFILM, there's very little on-line info about them. I do intend to (and have started) going back over all the stub films I've created and flesh them out as much as possible. Regardless, just wanted to explain in detail my reverts. Sources needed for Days of the Year pages

I see you recently accepted a pending change to October 14 that did not include a direct source.

You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages are no longer exempt from WP:V and direct sources are required for additions. For details see the content guideline and the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide. I've gone ahead and un-accepted this edit and backed it out.

All the pages in the Days of the Year project have had pending changes protection turned on to prevent vandalism and further addition of entries without direct sources. As a pending changes patroller, please do not accept additions to day of year pages where no direct source has been provided on that day of year page. The burden to provide sources for additions to these pages is on the editor who adds or restores material to these pages. Thank you and please keep up your good work! DYK for Nischal Basnet

On 10 November 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Nischal Basnet, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that before becoming a film director, Nepal's Nischal Basnet went to Australia to study 3D animation, but ended up studying hospitality and becoming a chef? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Nischal Basnet. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Nischal Basnet), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Icepeak and IC3PEAK

Hey Captain Medusa! I wanted to let you know that there is a volcano named Ice Peak with a Wikipedia article. By this extent, Icepeak could refer to either of the two terms, (the band and the mountain), and I would argue that a disambiguation page is very much the better option to put at Icepeak, which is what I have done. Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

It is not necessary to respond to this thread, if you dont want to elaborate more. cheers. --DBigXray 10:32, 26 November 2019 (UTC)

DBigXray, I have not opposed the RfA candidate. Right now, I am in Neutral side due to 3 three months of inactivity. I have seen the user around; seems like a good editor. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 10:59, 26 November 2019 (UTC)
yes, you have not opposed. I know that. I was asking the reason not to support. If it is just the 3 months then you are being harsh IMHO. --DBigXray 12:27, 26 November 2019 (UTC)
DBigXray, moved the neutral vote to support. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 20:43, 26 November 2019 (UTC)
CAPTAIN MEDUSA, ok but please note that I was more interested in a discussion here, to know your thoughts and the objective was not to influence you to change your position. DBigXray 09:29, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

  • A significant number of the new articles received each day are about South Asian topics, mainly biographies and cultural themes, along with the usual spam for companies. There is a huge backlog at the NewPagesFeed and more editors with experience and knowledge of Indian subjects are urgently needed to patrol the pages. If you are already a New Page Reviewer, please help out as much as you can. If you are not, please check out WP:NPP, then take a look at the requirements at WP:NPR and if you feel up to it, apply for the New Page Reviewer right at WP:PERM.
  • Kalapani territory has been a subject of edit warring by multiple editors. Kalapani is a disputed area between Nepal and India. The page was fully protected from 10 to 17 November. You're welcomed to patrol the page and keep your eyes on the new editors. Makes sure to assume good faith while editing the page.

  • India Search Result is a bot-generated page that tracks newly created articles related to India. It is a place to look out for new page pages. The page is updated daily and make sure to add it to your watchlist.

Verify my edit

Hi, I have created a section on the talk page.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Hermione_(given_name)

I would appreciate it if you can accept the proposed edit please.--Doctor987654 (talk) 01:11, 28 November 2019 (UTC)

WP:TV taskforces

I see you're in the process of turning several WIkiProjects into taskforces. However, there was consensus thatanimation related WikiProjects should become work groups under WP:ANIMATION rather than taskforces of WP:WPTV. (The redlinks just hadn't been updated yet.) Do you want to fix that? – sgeureka tc 20:55, 28 November 2019 (UTC)

Sgeureka, oops I was following the table format. I will complete that right now. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 21:02, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
Sgeureka I have moved South Park. Is anything else missing? ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 21:08, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
Oh i see more. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 21:10, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
Done I have completed it as requested. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 21:14, 28 November 2019 (UTC)

Reports to AIV

Doing a good job reporting vandals to AIV but you need to work on your descriptions. Please note that IP Addresses cannot be "vandalism only accounts" and are only blocked for a limited period of time. -- Alexf(talk) 21:49, 28 November 2019 (UTC)

Alexf, I was using Twinkle's default descriptions. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 21:50, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
Is there any way to add custom descriptions at Twinkle? ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 21:51, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
Not sure it has when reporting to AIV (see Twinkle Docs under ARV). -- Alexf(talk) 21:55, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
Alexf, I couldn't find anything at Twinkle Docs. I started a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Twinkle ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 22:01, 28 November 2019 (UTC)

Non approval of page

Hi Captain Medusa,

Just curious as to why this page has been declined.

Regards,

Jake — Preceding unsigned comment added by Crazykangarookoala (talkcontribs) 14:11, 30 November 2019 (UTC)

Crazykangarookoala, It only has primary sources. It needs a published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject. I suggest expanding the article. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 13:02, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

SPI ContentEditman

Could I ask why you deleted the info on that page and wrote blank? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8805:DC00:14D0:19B1:D5BB:25A4:6AA3 (talk) 15:36, 30 November 2019 (UTC)

Because you copied the content from the SPI and pasted it into the talk page. Then you made an edit request saying "Please move this page to the WP space". Also, I noticed you are modifying archived content please do not do that. Thanks. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 13:05, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

Note about autopatrolled redirects RfC

Hi. Since you participated in the preliminary discussions, I thought I should let you know that I've opened an RfC at Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers/Redirect autopatrol#RfC on autopatrolling redirects. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 01:35, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

3RR?

I take it that you issued the warning on my page for the 3RR then removed it based on the mess on List of Serbian inventions and discoveries? I am going to go on a limb and say that this was done accidentally? — Mr Xaero ☎️ 18:47, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

yes, that this was done accidentally. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 19:43, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
Thought so. No big deal. 😀 — Mr Xaero ☎️ 19:52, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

The Clansman

Hi there! I'm wondering what happened with the recent move of The Clansman. I think there may have been an error, but I'm not sure how best to correct it. Thanks, 142.160.131.220 (talk) 06:38, 3 December 2019 (UTC)

See Talk:The Clansman: A Historical Romance of the Ku Klux Klan. There was a requested move that received no consensus. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 06:40, 3 December 2019 (UTC)
Exactly, why is the IP not using the RM system for these? In ictu oculi (talk) 09:16, 3 December 2019 (UTC)

Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon's Journey into the Afterlife

Can you revert this please. The IP has been asked before not to do these as TRs but submit to RM process. In ictu oculi (talk) 09:15, 3 December 2019 (UTC)

In ictu oculi,   Done ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 10:57, 3 December 2019 (UTC)
