Wikipedia as meditation, stress release, or temporary escape
Hi Clovermoss, I was sorry to read about your loss[1]. Grief is not an easy emotion and we mourn our most beloved pets as family. The loss of their physical presence and support can be just as difficult, they are pillars in our lives. I see that you are worried about your related increased wikipedia editing and I wanted to take a minute to offer my thoughts in the spirit that they may be of some help to you... Many many people use volunteer labor as a way of healthily dealing with painful and stressful things in their lives, as long as you think that your increased editing isn't having a negative effect on anyone on wikipedia or on your wellbeing I think you're ok. Finding a way to channel these feelings (even that feeling of not wanting to feel feelings) into something constructive is important, I'm not saying that wikipedia has to be that thing for you or the only thing but if this is the thing thats super cool and I wouldn't feel bad about it. My condolences again, Horse Eye's Back (talk) 16:18, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
- Well she literally died this morning so I don't know what my edit rate will even look like. There's some other factors in the near future that'd make the feasibility of a wikibreak more difficult even if I wished to take one. But everything is still very fresh. I'm just thinking about how I reacted when one of the relatives died last summer and I thought that I'd want to take a wikibreak but then I didn't really end up taking one and just ended up editing more. But there was also a time when I was really depressed and I didn't edit at all for a year. I can't tell the future so I'm just going to be mindful and see where that takes me. I archived my talk page because it felt like I was doing something. Out of sight and out of mind. On to the next thing. I'm not sure if that makes sense?
- A lot of my life has been very difficult and I do genuinely try to work through things productively. To some extent it's because life goes on and you just have to. I try to be in tune with when I feel things and why I do the things that I do. Sometimes I worry that I'm too open about this, to be quite frank. But I just want people to see and understand me, y'know? See that my heart is in the right place and that I'm just someone trying to do their best to make a difference in a crappy world. Being able to be productive can sometimes help me process things. Sometimes I become a bit of a workaholic even. Distraction is one of the best healthy coping mechanisms I have. It's a fine line between that and avoidance but I'm sure I'll be fine with time. It's okay to hurt and to process things.
- Anyways, my cat was taken to the vet because she wasn't feeling well. I was hoping it wouldn't be bad news but it was. An aggressive form of breast cancer that was spreading into her lungs. She would continue to suffer and things would escalate really quickly. So she was put down like the vet suggested. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 16:31, 2 August 2024 (UTC)

- Just know that I'm here for you alright? I know your future right now is intense. I feel like we have a similar mindset. I really want people to understand that I'm trying to do the right thing, but it's always a pressing worry that they don't. Anyway I'll be quiet so that you can get back to distracting yourself, because I don't want you to have any more emotional burdens in your life right now. You know yourself better than I do, so do whatever you feel is right. The Night Watch (talk) 23:31, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
- I appreciate all the support. But I wanted to reply directly to The Night Watch because I know you know that I see that you're always trying to do the right thing, even if you beat yourself up about mistakes. You're never a burden. Please take care of yourself, too. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 23:34, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
- It's true that I don't take care of myself as best as I should sometimes. I had a conversation today about how poorly I've been eating and how I'm now underweight. But I feel like you're sometimes too harsh on yourself, like how you've been feeling shaky right now. The responses here alone show that people appreciate you. I don't want you to worry about what's to come, or to drown yourself emotionally by listening to the sufferings of others. But if you really think I won't create more pressure I'll be here for you in private. The Night Watch (talk) 04:06, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
- @The Night Watch: I didn't know about the lack of eating. That honestly makes me even more concerned for you. Please try to take care of yourself and maybe find out how to access additional mental health resources in your community? It can honestly make a world of difference. I worry about you and want you to be successful in your life. You can always reach out to be in private if you need to. I'm here for you. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 04:13, 3 August 2024 (UTC)

Joe Chambers (museum creator)
please help me out here. i can't take that much effort to hash out this issue. please note this article below, and let me know if i can use "(museum creator)". I would be REALLY HAPPY.
Margaret Anderson (museum creator)
this is the only accurate match to Joe's life work.
I am really frustrated to the max.
Thanks for your help. MikeMARS52 MikeMARS52 (talk) 23:50, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
- @MikeMARS52: My advice from last time is still applicable. What you need to do is start a move request and gain consensus for the move. Only being able to find one example of another disambiguator like that is another factor pointing in the direction that it probably would not be moved. As I said, I've participated in these types of these discussions before and it's just not a likely result. I suppose you found the technical aspect of starting a move request confusing? I can start one on your behalf if that's what's giving you issues. I get that you're frustrated but sometimes it helps to let things go. I once wrote an article on someone who was known for multiple things: Katherine Hughes (activist). I don't have to move the page to say everything she was known for. The purpose of disambiguation is to be able to tell her apart from the other people with her name. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 00:03, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- Clovermoss
- Thanks very much for your reply. I would very gratefully accept your offer to start the move.
- Just to make sure why I feel the need to use "museum founder" - it is not an issue of the multiple things done in his life.
- Rather, the idea that became the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum was imaged as television program to feature session musicians who routinely got no credit for their contributions. The tv show idea failed due to cameras that were too expensive, and Joe lacked skills to produce a tv show. see reference 6 in Joe's article time stamp 18:49. This morphed into forming a brick and mortar museum. I couldn't find a specific date for this, but i would guess 2 yr prior to actual purchase of a location in November 2003. The museum opened to the public on June 6, 2006. This was a significant museum and attracted a large number of visitors.
- Furthermore, in 2010 the City of Nashville seized (through eminent domain) and “expropriated” the property of the museum. According to Robert K Oermann the author of Joe’s obituary in the MusicRow newsletter “did not offer him enough money to relocate it.” (see reference 5)
- I suggest that many people would have given up after the seizure by the City of Nashville. But Joe didn’t, and kept on, showing his commitment to the museum.
- Joe, with the help of his wife, built the museum again. The new and larger museum was opened to the public on August 29, 2013. Joe was the CEO and curator for the museum until his death in 2022.
- Clearly, this endeavor was far more significant than his other successful ventures (producing hit records, writing hit songs, selling guitars).
- The museum was Joe's career for more time than his other ventures, and with far more impact on the music world, than any of the other aspects of his lifetime careers.
- When you initiate the attempt for consensus, please show all other editors that “museum founder” is by far the most accurate description of Joe Chambers’ contributions.
- My goal is to do just as you said at the end of your reply “The purpose of disambiguation is to be able to tell her apart from the other people with her name” This disambiguation is what people will expect when looking for Joe in Wikipedia!!
- Thanks in advance for your help with this issue. MikeMARS52 MikeMARS52 (talk) 16:58, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- I started a move discussion for you, see the talk page. Something I think I forgot to ask you beforehand (and should have) is whether or not you have a conflict of interest regarding Joe Chambers. If you do, you must declare it. Please see this guide. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 19:11, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

- No COI. I have done all of the work for free; a labor of love. I contacted the Museum and offered my work pro bono. offer was accepted.

Formal apology
Hello Clovermoss. Based on what you posted today, and based on doing some looking on my own, I have definitely concluded that you cannot be the person whom I suspected of being that banned user. (I still think that person is the real-life identity of that banned user, but I now know that this person cannot possibly be you. A helluva series of coincidences.) I apologize when I make a mistake, and I've made a mistake. My stated suspicions were wrong, and I admit that they were wrong. I want anyone who harbored suspicions based on anything that I said, to drop those suspicions. I know that my suspicions caused you to have some very serious unhappiness, and I am genuinely sorry for having caused that. I hope that you can put the unhappiness that you felt behind you. Best wishes, --Tryptofish (talk) 21:22, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- I appreciate the apology. This conversation definitely left me frustrated. I had a generally good impression of you until that happened and it just felt fundamentally unfair. That there was nothing I could do to prove my innocence. It also happened to be the first time I openly connected my username to a photo of myself, so it hurt a bit to have that openness not be able to resolve your concerns and then to see people joke about it after the fact like it was no big deal. Hopefully this whole situation is a learning experience. I think we have a lot to lose when it comes to casual accusations of sockpuppetry on the part of other editors. Genuine bad actors aren't going to stop at anything to get their way and making things harder for people who are here in good faith drives them away. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 21:39, 7 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from Rectech enthusiast (06:22, 9 August 2024)
Hello mentor,
Hope you doing well. I just wanted to get some advice from you, so I have been working on wiki for quite some time and recently my team raised a requirement to get our company published on wikipedia. Now I know it is important to declare myself as a part of the company if I am writing about it and also to write from a neutral perspective. Now it has been 7-8 years since the establishment of our company and I looked for citations too that will support the company article if I do write it (There aren't many independent sources, maybe 2 or 3. Rest are about the product that our SaaS is selling rn). Now the main struggle for me has been getting a new article approved. I am scared that Ill pour in all my efforts on this draft and then it will get rejected. Can you please guide me a little on the best way in which this can be done? I really believe I can rely on my mentor instead of the teahouse rn, I might get roasted there :_) --Rectech enthusiast (talk) 06:22, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Rectech enthusiast. I'd encourage you to read this page about what to do if your boss wants you to edit Wikipedia. You should also read this guide about contributing with a conflict of interest. The struggle in getting an article approved would be exactly because you don't have those independent sources available because Wikipedia has notability guidelines for when companies can be included. Essentially, if those sources don't exist, there's not much you can do. I'd encourage you to refocus your efforts elsewhere. Let me know if there's any topics you might be interested on working on as a volunteer editor, I could direct you to something that is notable and you can try to expand. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 06:41, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi there, Thank you for your suggestions. So RN there is like no pressure to make this page, it was a suggestion/task that anyone can take up. Since I was active here I thought of picking it up, now after reading the resources that you share Ill also share the same with our team. Ill ask the team to focus more on getting recognized by independent sources organically, it might be worth the wait. Thanks Again! Rectech enthusiast (talk) 07:18, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Rectech enthusiast: Waiting organically is realistically the only option even if that might suck from your employer's perspective. While I'm here, now is a good time to tell you that there is a scam where people will contact people who have declined or deleted articles. If you ever get contacted by these scammers, please follow the advice that is at that page. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 07:31, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

Is it possible to have edits that I made before creating an account have their creator changed from an IP to my account? --3aec04 (talk) 15:06, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
- @3aec04: There is no way to do that, unfortunately. You could create your user page and say "I used to be an IP editor that made x edits" but I'd recommend against giving the specific IP address for privacy reasons. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 15:20, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
Question from Jadney (21:36, 10 August 2024)
I have managed to track down the owner of the photos and she has agreed to share them with a suitable CC license. Is this something I can do for her, or do I need to ask her to do it? --Jadney (talk) 21:36, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Jadney. I'm frankly not sure as I've never had someone ask me this before. I'm glad that my previous answer gave you some information about the process. I'm assuming you didn't email those folks and instead just got her to give you the licensing permission herself? If you did email them and they told you to do this, I'd ask them what the next steps are. Otherwise I'll ping Red-tailed hawk because they're also an admin on Wikimedia Commons and probably understand the nuances surrounding these things better than I do. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 03:01, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi! @Jadney: I would ask the owner to follow the instructions on Wikimedia Commons's VRT release generator. This should walk the individual through the process of getting the right people a copy of the copyright release, and also would ensure that the terms of the release are compatible with those that are acceptable on Wikimedia projects. If you have any questions, please feel free to follow up on my talk page. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 03:11, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- I gave that advice the first time (see the above link). I'm guessing there isn't a way to do it yourself even with permission without going through that process? Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 21:08, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

Wikimedian of the year?
Congratulations! A very well-deserved honour. Cremastra (talk) 17:26, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Cremastra: Thank you. I hope to write a Signpost essay about everything in the near future. Let's just say I had no idea that my first trip outside of North America would be to Poland to receive an award for my activities on Wikipedia. Younger me would've been incredibly shocked if I could turn back time and tell her. I hope I can be a bridge between better relations between the WMF and the community so things don't end up being a Venn diagram like I talk about in my mobile editing essay. I'm really dedicated to trying to make things better for both sides of these conversations. In the future, do you think you could maybe tone down comments like the one you left Haley at the village pump? I see that you were kinder on the mediawiki page itself and I appreciate that. But it can be a bit hard for people from the foundation to seek community engagement voluntarily if people always yell at them whenever they ask for it. I'm not saying that was your intention here but if you read your comment back in an angry tone of voice, maybe you'll understand what I'm saying? Feel free to disagree with me on this if you'd like. hi! thank you.. is it acceptable to cite information from youtube? --Manutd48 (talk) 08:47, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Manutd48: Most of the time you wouldn't want to do that because it is a usergenerated source (unreliable because anyone can say anything). However, if you're citing a YouTube video from a reputable publisher (e.g. the New York Times has a YouTube channel), the fact that it's a video doesn't suddenly change its reliability. Does that make sense to you? Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 08:51, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

I think I might hide for a bit if people keep recognizing me. I do feel like it's my duty to mention that this publication didn't actually talk to me, they're just quoting me from the YouTube video the foundation put out of the opening ceremony. I was actually a bit surprised to randomly come across this piece. I suppose they wanted to be the first in the Niagara region to cover this? Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 09:32, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

A terrifying "What if?" scenario
This is drifting a bit off center of the conversation at WT:RFA about too few admins, which is why I'm posting here on your talk page.
Consider; what if Google stopped prioritizing Wikipedia results in SERPs? This isn't far fetched. Quite a number of businesses have been destroyed as a result of Google's various updates over the years to their core engine. Google has, of late, been increasing the number of core algorithm updates per year. Imagine Google deciding that Wikipedia is no longer a reliable resource, and no longer connects Wikipedia to the Google knowledge graph. Imagine the hit to Wikipedia traffic. Imagine if Google further decides to deprioritize Wikipedia search results as not being authoritative.
The impacts of such a change in SERPs for Wikipedia would be absolutely catastrophic. Fewer editors, fewer administrators, smaller community, and ...most importantly... dramatically less income. A worst case scenario; The WMF goes bankrupt, and Wikipedia becomes static resource, with updates not allowed.
Unthinkable? It's happened to companies before that have relied on Google search results as their main footprint in the world. At some point, when we don't have enough administrators to maintain the project, Google might make such a decision. Horrifying, no? --Hammersoft (talk) 15:57, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- You might be interested in watching this Wikimania session where Maryana, Selena, and Lisa actually talked a bit about this. They didn't really get into our declining number of admins but they did talk about what might happen if less people are using Google to access Wikipedia. I've also heard a similar argument when I went to WCNA 2023 and listened to Sue Gardner's keynote. It's not really unthinkable to me even if I'm less doom and gloom about it than other folks. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 16:19, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- I don't know what can realistically be done about it, though, other than the wmf saving money. We do not have control over Google's decisions or the ability to insert links to Wikipedia from elsewhere to shore up traffic. (t · c) buidhe 18:36, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- Far as I can see most of us who have considered the possibility through the years have decided there's little we could do about it except maintain and advance our overall quality which is what we want anyway. So, no worry about whether Zeus will strike us down with lightning; either it happens or it doesn't. like this fellow Jim.henderson (talk) 20:59, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

Hey I just wanted to add a person to Wikipedia, my father he is a known figure and realized there is no Wikipedia article on him. How do I do that? --MyMelodyLuv (talk) 05:28, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi MyMelodyLuv, please see our guide for editors with a conflict of interest. In short, it's highly discouraged that you create such an article yourself. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 13:26, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
- It is highly discouraged yet non prohibited correct? So if I choose to do so anyway seeing that it's an about me on him in which I have the most information on him, how do I start it? MyMelodyLuv (talk) 19:10, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
- @MyMelodyLuv: Yes, it is technically possible even if people will tell you that is not a good idea. If you decide to do this, please read this page (and the one I linked above). It's highly recommended that you submit your draft through the articles for creation process where another person will review your draft to see if it complies with our notability guidelines for people. Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated. Contestants put in extraordinary amounts of effort during this round, and their scores can be seen here. So far this year, competitors have gotten 36 featured articles, 55 featured lists, 15 good articles, 93 in the news credits, and at least 333 did you know credits. They have conducted 357 featured content reviews, as well as 553 good article reviews and peer reviews, and have added 30 articles to featured topics and good topics.
Any content promoted after 29 August but before the start of Round 5 can be claimed during Round 5, which starts on 1 September at 00:00 (UTC). Question from Rosie1951 (17:53, 3 September 2024)
Hi mentors, recently I just tried to create a wiki about an musical artist and managed to write about his biography and stuff. And I don't know if I post the article to Wikipedia it'll get "nomination of deletion". If you're active, i would like to share you the things I wrote about it and would like to know what's wrong with it. Thanks in advance! --Rosie1951 (talk) 17:53, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Rosie1951: I'll leave some links on your talk page that will probably help. As for "nomination of deletion", that usually happens if a subject isn't considered notable. This guide contains more information about what to know when trying to write an article. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 17:57, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
- I know you said you recently tried to create something but I can't see that because this is the only edit you've made under this account. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 17:58, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
- hi clover, thanks for the answer. I just created sandbox under this account and my previous account got banned because the username violates the rules, which i carefully read right after i got the messages. I think it was my fault. Anyways, thank you for the answer once again and if you can check my sandbox about this artist feel free to do so and let me know if something majorly wrong about the article. Thanks! Rosie1951 (talk) 18:33, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Rosie1951: I took a look at your sandbox and I don't think the subject meets our guidelines for notability. You can't really fix that, so I'd suggest moving on and trying to edit about something else. Your previous account might have been blocked under the username policy? If it was, then creating a new account is usually fine. If it wasn't and you were blocked for other reasons, I'd encourage you to request an unblock from your original account instead of creating a new one. I hope that helps, Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 20:50, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

Anyways, thank you for the answer once again and if you can check my sandbox about this artist feel free to do so and let me know if something majorly wrong about the article. Thanks! Youth conference
Congratulations for your award. It's great to see young people getting the WOTY award.
In Wikimania we had a youth meetup, as I had told you during the event. By the way the CEE Hub, well as the Wikivibrance (global youth network) and CEE Youth Group are desiring to host the inaugural youth conference in Prague, where we did the first ever meetup for youth in CEE. I wrote you in case you are interested to apply once approved, as you fulfill the age requirements for the conference, and to connect you more with the various youth oriented initiative unfolding.
Also, does it exists any organised youth Wikimedian community in Canada, or generally in North America? Youth potential is big here, and the youth in the movement is often overlooked. As CEE Youth Group we can help on that, with our experience. I am one of it's most active members, and a well known participant of the global youth initiatives mentioned. NikosLikomitros (talk) 01:58, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
- @NikosLikomitros: Sorry I couldn't come to that, I had other obligations at the time. As far as I'm aware, there is no youth-specific meetups here in North America. I will look into the Wikivibrance thing that you linked. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 02:01, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

Your Noticeboard thread
Hello Clovermoss, I obviously don't mean to imply bad faith or anything, but your recent NPOV noticeboard thread on parental investment had me concerned. This seems to be a claim that is absolutely central to evolutionary psychology and can be found across thousands of solid RSs. I don't think it's a good idea to make an open-ended appeal like one might with GENSEX topics more generally. This really is hard science. Biohistorian15 (talk) 19:52, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- The language is quite clumsy, but not in an unduly POV sort of way, is it? One might speak of "biological females" I guess. Biohistorian15 (talk) 19:53, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- My concern was not from a GENSEX perspective. I'm a cisgender woman and I think it's entirely reasonable to place this on the NPOV noticeboard. It's just straight up weird to say stuff like this in wikivoice. At the very least WP:ATTRIBUTEPOV. But generalizing people's behaviour (especially the way it is in that article) is really questionable. It's literally saying that women are only attracted to men with resources as if that's some unquestionable fact. It's important that stuff about humans is handled more delicately. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 19:58, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah, language sure isn't ideal, but that's more of a CIR than POV issue I think. "Ressource" has many meanings though. Biohistorian15 (talk) 20:05, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- I think it's very much less than ideal. For example, I have no interest in ever being a relationship with anyone so it's clearly incorrect to state that all woman act a certain way and have specific motivations for their sexual attraction. It's eerily similar to claims made by those in the Manosphere. I think starting a noticeboard thread is very much justified and there's definitely WP:DUE weight issues. As another editor has already stated
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence
. If you would like to dispute this, I encourage you to comment at the thread itself, because I'm not removing it. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 20:10, 5 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi, I'm trying to have my user page on wikipedia, so that we can search my name on google and have my wikipedia page. I just finished my local user page "User:Mtankeu" but i want to use my name "Marius TANKEU" instead.
How to do that please?
Thanks! --Mtankeu (talk) 10:00, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Mtankeu. Userpages aren't really meant to show up in search engines because they're not encyclopedia content. Sometimes they do anyways but that's not the purpose of one. Please read this page about what userpages are for. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 11:57, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot.
- So how do i create a wikipedia page for myself that can be searched on search engines?
- Regards, Mtankeu (talk) 12:03, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Mtankeu: Wikipedia isn't really for writing an article about yourself. Please see this page. If you become notable, someone that doesn't have a conflict of interest will probably create an article about you. Please note that this isn't always a good thing. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 12:54, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

- Can i write an article about a charity opened 10 years ago? They are making a big impact in Africa since 10 years. Mtankeu (talk) 11:19, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Mtankeu: Organizations (whether nonprofit or for profit) actually have to meet additional requirements to be what Wikipedia considers to be notable. Read this page to find out what those are. Hopefully you'll be able to find the coverage you need if they're making a big impact. If you link the sources you'd like to cite, I can provide my perspective on whether or not they meet those requirements. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 11:25, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

Women in Green's "Around the World in 31 Days" GA Editathon – October 2024
Hello Clovermoss:
WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2024!
Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
We hope to see you there!

Question from Purplepridefamilyvocalfusion (19:48, 17 September 2024)
Hello I would want to add a page for my band on wikipedia how do I do it --Purplepridefamilyvocalfusion (talk) 19:48, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Purplepridefamilyvocalfusion: You would have a conflict of interest because it is "your" band and I would suggest you not try to create an article about it for that reason. If you really want to try, please read this guide, which also says that this path is highly discouraged. The band would have to meet the requirements for what Wikipedia considers to be notable and written in neutral language, as Wikipedia is not for promotional purposes. Question from Lisbon Experience (11:51, 19 September 2024)
Hi I'm doing a research work about some aspects of the Portuguese history. The article is quiet ready to be published. I've read some of the conditions to publish and understood that I need to do at least 10 reviews of existent articles do publish. Am I right? --Lisbon Experience (talk) 11:51, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Lisbon Experience: You don't have to "review" existing articles. You could start a draft that someone could review and move to mainspace for you, or you could move it yourself if you have "autoconfirmed" (this happens when you've had your account for 4 days and made 10 edits, just commenting here counts as one). I would suggest making sure that you're following all the advice for creating your first article before you do that, though. Let me know if you have any further questions. Question from CamTheLearning (18:25, 21 September 2024)
I'm looking to and deeply interested in making a wiki on miraheze about theKnowledge users may not know about how to use their computer. Things like terminology, how file paths are structured and why they are used by applications. Explaining basic concepts like what a start button is, etc. Essentially I want to be able to provide a resource where a reader con go in knowing nothing about their computer, and come away knowing more in a easy to follow organization method. I have some ideas about how to structure some articles but ideally need refining and feedback. So, I approach you today asking if you have any specific ideas about how a wiki page should be structured in terms on content organization (like how news articles are using the inverted pyramid format for information). I apologize if this is out of scope for your assistance and feedback. --CamTheLearning (talk) 18:25, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi CamTheLearning. It is a bit out of scope so the best I can do is really point you towards the direction of PixDeVl. They're the only person I know who knows anything about Miraheze. Anyways, I'm here if you ever want to learn more about how Wikipedia editing works. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 18:31, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads-up Clover, appreciate it!
- @CamTheLearning I'm not personally very experienced in article structuring, since I sold my soul from the article editing business to admin and internalism stuff a year ago, but I can try and give my 2 cents. For general encyclopedia article structure, ironically I tend to point at Wikimedia, but for something like this where you need to explain things it's more nuanced. I'd suggest looking at existing resources that have been said to help by their intended audience and go from there(although some creativity may be needed). At a first glance [4] looks to be a decent guide to take inspiration from. I'd highly suggest trying to get other people on board to help since lot's of single person projects can be very hard to maintain. I'm not familiar enough with Wikimedia to point you to WP:How to structure an article(although projectspace may have something, maybe someone else knows). Apologies I can't be of much help, if you want to try and ask the wider Miraheze community about ideas or general assistance, our Discord/IRC and Community Portal our probably your best bet. Feel free to ask me if there's anything else, I may ping if I think of other useful resources. Sorry again, and have a great day! PixDeVl

- @OMG TEAM japan: Hi to you as well. Do you have any questions about editing Wikipedia? Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 15:31, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
Please be more careful
Hi there. Please try to be a little more careful about statements like this. I never stated that Significa didn't do her due diligence. Please be more careful about putting words in other people's mouths. Thank you. Happy editing. GrammarDamner how are things? 17:24, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- @GrammarDamner: While you didn't say those words exactly, that is the interpretation I got from reading them. I'm open to feedback but I'm not sure what the issue is here? Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 17:33, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- When I quoted you, I made that clear. But I really don't see what the problem is with me refuting your central argument that Significa was starting AfDs that didn't have a lack of notability/referencing (when these AfDs were very much worth starting). Saying what you said strongly implies that someone isn't doing their due diligence in regards to starting AfDs. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 17:42, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- It's the word state, isn't it? I think I can see why you might have an issue with that comment now. It would've been better if I'd use the word implied, instead. Does that resolve your concerns GrammarDamner? Alternatively I should have quoted you first and then said I disagree and I dislike that this implies that she didn't do her due diligence? This obviously matters to you because you wouldn't bring it up more than a week after the RfA ended if it didn't. To be quite frank, that RfA has made me quite jaded about things and I hope I didn't come across as too defensive here. The immense frustration I felt then has not settled yet. I'm not sure it ever will. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 21:04, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- That kind of resolves my concerns. The word state does flat out say that I said something I never said. I also notice that you didn't object to anyone else in that way, even though I was not the first and far from the only one to oppose for those reasons. I'm also still quite frustrated about that RfA. I'm not frustrated that it passed and Significa was promoted to admin, I'm upset about that "central argument" thing. Nobody ever said that all of Significa's AfD's were bad, and Joe Roe, among others, pointed out that some of them indeed were well-referenced/notable. These references and notabilities were acknowledged by some supporters but deemed not enough to oppose (which is fine), they were ignored by some supporters (also okay), and they were denied by some supporters (which is troublesome). I'm sorry, I could go on and on obviously. Anyway, thank you. GrammarDamner how are things? 14:33, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- @GrammarDamner: Ignoring things doesn't make them go away and I'd prefer we both walk away from this conversation feeling like our concerns were acknowledged. I wasn't using the word state there to intentionally single you out, it was literally me just not thinking through how I arranged a sentence. In regards to
didn't object to anyone else in that way
, I did reply to other people in that RfA. I do think we'll have to agree to disagree aboutthey were denied by some supporters (which is troublesome)
. One of the things that bothered me most about that RfA is that it turned into some huge philosophical battle about drafticiation and I think that's fundamentally unfair to the candidate. For example, the drafticiation of Draft:TAO (brand), given as an example of newbie biting, was well within normal drafticiation practice and I would've done it myself. "Backdoor deletion" was also given as a concern when that's explicitly not what drafticiation is about (WP:DRAFTIFY). To me, this felt like someone criticizing someone for deleting G11s for being unambiguously promotional because the subject is notable and someone could theoretically write a neutral article. An RfA is not a place to get mad at someone for following current practices. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 15:59, 30 September 2024 (UTC) - To extend my thoughts on the WP:G11 comparison, that page states that
If a subject is notable and the content could plausibly be replaced with text written from a neutral point of view, this is preferable to deletion
but a page can still be deleted if it's unambiguously promotional. Some people find this preferable per WP:TNT and also because they don't want to reward spammers. It's normal for Wikipedians to disagree on things. But I think the thing that made me very jaded about the RfA is that that was held against the candidate even though she wasn't really doing anything wrong (some mistaken G4s aside). Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 16:08, 30 September 2024 (UTC)

- @Chainsaaaw: Thanks for noticing. I fixed the infobox by reverting the recent changes made by an IP editor (see here). I'm not sure what advice to give on fixing articles like this other than be really careful when messing around with templates... a missing | or }} tends to cause most of these issues in my experience. It can help to "preview" a bunch of times if you're ever unsure and trying different things until they work. I could ask around if you want more specific advice. My apologies
Hello, Clovermoss,
I thought I was editing WP:AN but somehow I ended up on that Talk page and I never looked up from the bottom of the page to see where I was. I'm embarrassed and just reverted my message. Question from VendingLegend (20:52, 30 September 2024)
Greetings!
Noob question, but how can I see whether my edit suggestions were approved? --VendingLegend (talk) 20:52, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- @VendingLegend: Never feel bad for asking questions, no one is born magically knowing how to edit Wikipedia. Could you be a bit more specific about what exactly you mean by "edit suggestions"? Are you writing edit requests on the talk page? Are you editing pages directly and then someone undoes your changes? Or do you mean something else? Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 21:13, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- Yes! On the edit request page VendingLegend (talk) 22:00, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- @VendingLegend: I took a look at your contributions and I'm not seeing any edits to an article talk page. Are you talking about the edit you made to Vending machine? [5] It's usually best to discuss this with the editor in question (AntiDionysius) but in this case I'd assume that it's because you have not cited a source for the content you added (which is important, as verifiability is one of the five pillars of editing). Question from DIVYA70761 on B. Devendrappa (18:53, 5 October 2024)
Hello, I’d like to add a few pictures and an audio file to the Wikipedia page, could you please help, thank you. --DIVYA70761 (talk) 18:53, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
- @DIVYA70761: Could you be a bit more specific about the content you wish to add and why you're doing so (what page, for what reason, and do you own the rights to the work?). There's a lot of nuances that's involved when it comes to adding media, and both Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons are strict about removing copyright violations. Thank you for your keynote at WikiConference North America 2024! Well done and congratulations. –DMartin 14:20, 6 October 2024 (UTC) |
- Thank you. I'm just glad that it's over. It was very hard trying to write a delicate balance about my childhood trauma (trust me, this is the incredibly condensed version) and then explaining why/how Wikipedia became so important to me. I've definitely shared this before but it's different on a stage. I spent a lot of time last night debating whether I want to rewrite the whole thing last second in case I didn't want to go through with it. But I did what I practiced instead. 😅 Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 17:37, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- I also was not expecting anyone to name a fundraiser after my keynote... so today's been a bit surprising, to say the least. I'm not sure how to feel. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 18:48, 6 October 2024 (UTC)

Wikimedia Apps newsletter – Third quarter of 2024
Hello, and welcome to the app's third newsletter of 2024! In this edition, we will highlight the accomplishments and progress made during July, August, and September 2024!
iOS Updates
Over 20,000 images have been added via the "Add an Image" feature across both iOS and Android! (T372954), good opportunity to try it yourself ;) This tool allows users to enhance Wikipedia articles by adding relevant images. It’s a great way to contribute and improve the visual experience for readers.
The iOS team kicked off the Alt Text experiment to improve image descriptions for accessibility. This feature helps ensure that visually impaired users can better understand the content of images through descriptive text.
The iOS App has been transitioning from a primarily reader-focused app, to an app that fully supports both reading and editing. After adding a number of editing features, the navigation system of the app needs to grow and change to support them and future additions. Improving our navigation will allow for more app users to discover editing features, and allow experienced users quicker access to their most-used tools. This refresh incorporates findings from usability testing with multiple variants of the App's navigation. The team is currently planning phased rollouts over the coming year to improve user experience. (Phase 1: T373714)
Android Updates
Improvements were made to the Places feature in response to user feedback, including larger cluster icons and a Wikipedia logo for articles without images (T371067, T370094). Also, the team is exploring designs to allow users to explore articles from multiple language wikis simultaneously and will adjust the zoom logic to show nearby locations upon launch (T352757, T368792).
- WikiTrivia Game
The team prepared for the WikiTrivia Game during a hackathon, selecting a data source and creating initial designs (T371508, T371510).
Work began on adding Recommended Content to search, iterating on design concepts and testing performance (T371613).
The team is now engaging with several wikis to implement Machine-Assisted Article Descriptions based on prior experimental results.
- Sharing reading lists
Android users can now share reading lists with others, expanding community collaboration (T370703).
And some performance enhancements: Revision tags for app edits were successfully implemented (T366731, T366732).
The app now supports URL sharing on Pixel devices, thanks to volunteer developer contributions (T370020).
Stay tuned for future updates as we continue to enhance your Wikipedia experience! And you can subscribe to this newsletter.

- @Starman1344: How do you feel about citing sources for articles that don't have any? There's Category:Articles lacking sources if that sounds like your cup of tea. There's more tasks at Wikipedia:Backlog. Let me know if you find this too technical. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 22:22, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

- @Starman1344: Basically, some articles don't cite any sources. One big way to help on Wikipedia is to focus on quality issues like that because historically, many articles have problems like that. If you don't want to do that, I can try to think of something that would be easier. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 22:26, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- I might focus on quality issues when i've become a bit more experienced. I would like to do something easier of it's okay. Starman1344 (talk) 22:30, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Starman1344: That's totally fine. Wikipedia:Task Center has some other options but I'm not sure if you'd also find that too difficult. My general advice is to read articles that interest you and then fix things if you notice anything. Sometimes phrasing can be awkward, or there's a typo, or you notice that information is missing that should be there. Do you find any of that helpful? Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 22:44, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you so much. This should help me get better at finding errors. Starman1344 (talk) 22:49, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
