Crisco, I see that you're an active FA contributor and I wanted to seek your guidance on whether my article List of plantations in West Virginia would be eligible for a featured list review nomination. If you could please scan the article, and let me know if there is anything I can do to improve it so that I can nominate it, I would greatly appreciate it! -- Caponer (talk) 17:26, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

DYK for Poesaka Terpendam
On 9 January 2014, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Poesaka Terpendam, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that one reviewer found Poesaka Terpendam to be the first film in which Djoemala seemed out of place? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Poesaka Terpendam. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Need to talk about a photo
This might run a bit long. Not sure if you have the time, so won't go into the details unless you do. Thanks, We hope (talk) 01:44, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
- I've got plenty of time, so long as it doesn't have to be right now. Tonight (UTC+7) is all free time. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:52, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
- All-righty-about a year or more ago, we ran into a copy of this photo. It had a Metronome magazine stamp on the back and it was thought to have been taken by the magazine and run in one of their copyright renewed issues, so no-go.
- The one at the link was received by a newspaper and published in March 1952. Getty shows 2 of these with no copyright info-1 for Metronome and 1 for Michael Ochs Archives. Both claim the photo is circa 1955; Metronome didn't take the photo and neither did Michael Ochs. What we see is his music photo collection online there.
- I think the origin of the photo is Columbia Records, but nothing seems to be able to lead me back there; the newpaper copy has nothing but work stamps & notes from the paper's publication. The UPenn books show no copyright registrations for photos for Jo Stafford in 1952, period--nothing by either Metronome or Columbia. Bottom line is: can we use this as a PD photo to illustrate the couple working together? Thanks for even thinking about this! We hope (talk) 02:27, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
- I think it is. To check the year, we can try and track down when "Ay-Round the Corner" was released; if this is from a recording session, then it has to be before that date. That will help check for copyright registrations, in case 1952 was incorrect. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:12, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

Queue 4 issues (including lead hook!)
Crisco, can you take care of the two pending issues that affect Queue 4? Sasata has posted at WT:DYK that the lead hook is problematic, and Yoninah has pointed out that the Queue 5 hook about an orthodox rabbi in LA is going to run during the Sabbath, when orthodox Jews there can't use technology (among other things) and so won't be able to see the hook on the main page. Swapping the rabbi hook to Queue 4 means it runs before local sundown on Friday (when the Sabbath starts). Thanks. (PS: Just did a little more work on the Pearsall hook, since he only designed the extension to the fire station that just closed, not the original building.) BlueMoonset (talk) 11:32, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- How's this? I don't think 6 hooks in Q 4 is an issue, as those are mostly longer hooks. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:39, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks. I suppose you could grab one of the shorter hooks from prep 1 to make a seventh, but if you don't think it's necessary, I'm not going to sweat it. BlueMoonset (talk) 12:03, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- BTW, I took care of unpromoting the mushroom hook template, and added it to the Removed page. I also notified the nominator of the need to come up with a new hook for it. BlueMoonset (talk) 12:16, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi Crisco, Can I ask for a very quick image check? I think both should be OK - one is present on a recent FA, so will have been done already. They are on my new FLC Bibliography of Sax Rohmer. Sadly none of the man himself or his books (he died in '59), so I've had to be flexible when finding some forms of illustration on this one! Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 07:39, 11 January 2014 (UTC)

Help with DYK
I wouldn't normally have jumped the queue like this, especially not since I'm the one who nominated it, but it was reviewed and approved by other people, and it is very time-sensitive, and I am nearly collapsing from how tired I am and the instructions for how to continue with the various minutiae of updating the queue and so forth are starting to blur for me so I'm going to ask you, please, if you can finish with the procedure of updating the queue so that this goes onto the main page in the update at 11 AM Eastern time on January 11 2014 please and thank you I'm also going to ask some of the other admins who work on the DYK area also and I am so tired thank you in advance. Request for input
Do you think I could borrow you to take a look here? I tend to think that when editors decline to make a Requested Edit, it is because it is a bad request to make. Editors seem very reluctant to actually decline them. However in this case the editor has specifically stated this is not the case. CorporateM (Talk) 13:30, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- Replied there. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:37, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hey Crisco. To the best of my knowledge, I have not seen any reviews of specific products that would help improve that section. However, user:EdJohnston has previously mentioned that the article could use some content about how SAS compares to competitors (I presume in a different section). I agree, but do not feel comfortable authoring it myself.
- As an example, the first reliable source I found in a peer-reviewed journal said SAS is better than STATA at analysis of variance (ANOVA) techniques, however SAS and myself find it inappropriate for us to add disparaging remarks about competitors on Wikipedia.
- From my perspective, as a COI participant I am only one part of the ecosystem and often abstaining from a specific topic is the most appropriate conduct, as it is here. If you feel uncomfortable adding the Product section without the expectation of reviews/comparisons being added as well, then I think the next step is just for me to wait (whether it be months or years) for a regular disinterested editor to take an interest in writing a review and comparison section. CorporateM (Talk) 16:09, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- I could write a section / paragraph, if necessary (you're obviously shooting for GA, so waiting is probably not a fun game) though a couple sources to help me write it would help greatly. SAS does, after all, have a very common name, and sources are liable to be swamped with the British Special Forces. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:35, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
- Probably the golden nugget I've noticed was this. I haven't read it, but it is from a peer-reviewed journal. (I think this source is summarizing it) While not as formal this site looks neutral and is from a university. This could be admissable as an expert source, but would probably be pushing RS. There's some detailed pricing comparisons here and here.

- There's also stuff like this that reviews individual components. While Enterprise Miner is a key one, I think there are 200 components (or something like that). We could probably only practically cover some broad generalizations about the software suite in general as oppose to a detailed analysis of individual components. CorporateM (Talk) 23:32, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
- Alright, I'll see if I can get a paragraph or two done after I teach. A link to Comparison of statistical packages would be invaluable, of course. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:44, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
- CorporateM, I've added two paragraphs. Any thoughts? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:59, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

- I think it was user:North8000 who said perfection is the enemy of progress. While I must edit cautiously, if at all, I always encourage other editors to edit the normal way and without asking me to sanction the material. But since you ask, I'll gruelingly tear it apart ;-)
- The first sentence is a little unclear as it could be interpreted to mean that "the comparison...[is]...from SAS" as if SAS is the author of the comparison. I would suggest stating who Alan is, or if no information is available, citing the journal instead of the author. There is some condensing that I think is possible, in particular where two competitors compare to SAS in a similar way. "tout" may not be an encyclopedic word. We should almost always say "said" or "stated" rather than "admitted" or "claimed". I think by "does not charge large initial fees" what you mean is that the pricing is "weighted" lighter in that area and heavier in subscription fees. To members of the general public reading Wikipedia, the fees any F500 pays for analytics software would probably seem quite large.
- That's all I got! I think it's best to just roll with whatever you think is best though. CorporateM (Talk) 06:47, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

Asking for a favour
Hey Crisco, I have a favour to ask. I made a DYK nomination: Template:Did you know nominations/Tianyi Film Company, which is time-sensitive as it's a tie-in with the recent death of Sir Run Run Shaw. As you're familiar with the topic, would you be willing to review the nomination? Thanks a lot! -Zanhe (talk) 00:53, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
- Sure thing, I owe you one anyways. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:04, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
- That was fast. Thanks a lot! -Zanhe (talk) 03:48, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
- LOL. Woulda been faster if I were at home when you pinged me. K, looks good. (BTW, an article on the Shanghai film industry would be really useful if you have the sources... I hear some of the old studio buildings are still extant, though repurposed). Interesting how a lot of them migrated to the Indies and Malaya... the Shaws in Singapore, the Wongs in Batavia, and a few actors and actresses too (Herman Sim in Si Pitoeng and Olive Young in Resia Boroboedoer... I think I have enough for an article on the last one, too). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:51, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
- I think I'll eventually write an article for the Shanghai film industry, unless someone else does it first. The problem is not the lack of sources, but too much information. It'll be a daunting task to write a comprehensive article. For the time being I'll focus on the easier task of writing about individual actors and filmmakers. -Zanhe (talk) 04:37, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
- Nice. More or less why I have yet to write an article on the film industry of the Indies. I think I have most of what I need already here, it's just a matter of whittling everything down to 30k characters or so. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:41, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
- That was fast. Thanks a lot! -Zanhe (talk) 03:48, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
Question
Could you take a look at The Bold Bank Robbery for me? It's my next FAC after Brown hopefully passes. Do you think it has a chance? Taylor Trescott - my talk + my edits 03:05, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
- First things first, as the film has reportedly been digitized I'd try and hunt down a copy (I actually tried, but couldn't find it). It's certainly public domain, and the simple reproduction of it on DVD is not enough for a new copyright under US law. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:09, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
- Yep, I own the DVD that it's on. I'll see how to go about dumping it to Commons. Taylor Trescott - my talk + my edits 03:10, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
- I usually rip using WinX DVD ripper platinum, then convert using Aiseesoft, if that's any help. The video can be placed like at A Free Ride (NSFW), or in the plot section. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:13, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
- BTW, Taylor, if you rip and convert at the maximum quality, you can upload it to commons using batch uploading. That could allow for the film to be nominated at WP:FPC, giving the article two opportunities to get on the MP. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:43, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

Main Page appearance: Sudirman
This is a note to let the main editors of Sudirman know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on January 24, 2014. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask Bencherlite (talk · contribs). You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/January 24, 2014. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:
Sudirman (1916–50) was a high-ranking military officer during the Indonesian National Revolution. The first commander-in-chief of the Indonesian Armed Forces, he was declared a National Hero in 1964. A teacher when the Japanese occupied the Indies in 1942, he joined the Japanese-sponsored Defenders of the Homeland and oversaw the Japanese surrender in Banyumas after Indonesia proclaimed its independence. Elected commander-in-chief in November 1945, he ordered an assault on British and Dutch forces at Ambarawa, strengthening his popular support. During the next three years negotiations with the Dutch failed and in December 1948 the Dutch tried to capture Yogyakarta. While the political leadership sheltered, Sudirman led a small group of soldiers in a seven-month guerrilla campaign. When the Dutch began withdrawing, he wanted to continue fighting them but was forbidden. Sudirman retired because of illness and died soon after the Dutch recognised Indonesia's independence. His guerrilla campaign has been credited with developing the army's esprit de corps, and the 100-kilometre (62 mi) long route he took must be followed by Indonesian cadets before graduation. Advice on getting a higher resolution?
Hey! Firstly, thanks for the quick response at FP, and the clear feedback about what needs to be done. This is my first time nominating an image to FP, and even though it was speedily rejected, I had a very good newbie user experience.
I knew the size would be a problem, but read that you sometimes make exceptions for "historical or otherwise unique images, if no higher resolution could realistically be acquired."
So, my first question is if you have any advice on how I could acquire a higher resolution image. One answer would be to seek one from the original office that created the image, but that may prove impossible. Another answer might be to have an expert recreate the image as an svg, although I'm not sure if that would be allowed. You do this all the time--do you have any other ideas?
Secondly, I'm a newbie to FP but an oldie to WP. I know sometimes as speedy close is merely indicative of one problem out of many. If I got my hands on a high resolution copy of the image, do you you think there's a good change it might survive FP? or are there other problems beyond just resolution, do you think?
Thanks again for you quick assessment and NotBiting the newbie :) --HectorMoffet (talk) 10:59, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- Recreating the logo as an SVG would certainly be doable, though that's nowhere near my field (I don't think I've ever been able to make a good SVG). There are people at the Image Lab (this page) who do SVGs based on JPGs, so that would be workable.
- Getting an SVG would definitely give you a fighting chance at FPC, but it should be noted that reviewers generally expect a lot from SVG versions of logos. This one might get support, but not any old SVG stands a chance. It's really hard to predict how a particular FPC will run (case in point, the space selfie at the bottom of the page; I didn't expect it to be delayed because of copyright concerns).
- I hope that was helpful. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:18, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hey! So I got on the horn and tracked down a scan of the physical patch. It's about 900px square (so, like 12x the old version). Because of the "pixelation" inherent in a stitched patch, increasing the scan resolution beyond 900px doesn't increase the quality of the image.
- Do you think it would be appropriate to re-nominate this as FP? or would that be frowned upon? --HectorMoffet (talk) 14:33, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- It would still be under-sized. If the design of the patch is what you are hoping to have promoted, SVG is the way to go. If the patch itself is what you're looking for, a higher quality scan / photograph would be required. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:11, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Crisco, this is a bit of an odd one: as far as I can tell—but I'm far from positive—the entire disagreement between nominator and reviewer is about the image in the nomination and whether it's public domain or not.
Since you're experienced in that area, I was hoping you'd be willing, if you have the time and access, to take a look at it. It has acquired an X icon, though so far no one's rejected it outright. Complicating matters is that virtually all the sourcing is in Czech, as is the source of the image. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:23, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

- Thanks. Considering how many people think DYK is the worst spot on the MP, that one would have the gall to say something like that is just... wow. Mind you, not that I agree with people saying that it's the worst part, but it certainly isn't TFA, and OTD tends to have higher standards as well. ITN... hit and miss. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:28, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

AfD decision
Hello,
I noticed that you declared "keep" for "Choose Your Battles", but am unsure of this: If only one or two voters who voted "keep" addressed the notability issue while there were four votes indicating "delete" citing WP:NSONGS policy, what exactly influenced the "keep" decision? @BlueMoonset: stated that reasons/evidence outweigh number of votes, and only one or two of the voters addressed the concern about notability when voting "keep" while four "delete" votes have reasons for why it is not notable enough according to WP:NSONGS.
Just looking to know the reason(s).....
XXSNUGGUMSXX (talk) 03:41, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Snuggums, the main evidence for the "Keep" close were that the song charted and the coverage (pointed out in the !votes). Yes, it is a marginal song (nothing like some of Perry's other work), but I think discussion showed that this passed the bar for notability. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:49, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- Actually, there isn't exactly that much coverage available on the song. Its charting is not exactly significant be ause its position is rather low and it would also need much higher positions on more charts (it only has one) to have much impact. If one were to perhaps re-nominate it for deletion, is there perhaps a required waiting time period or anything before doing so? XXSNUGGUMSXX (talk) 04:05, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- It's not formalized, but the general rule is "don't renominate until the other editors have forgotten" (or have died, are retired, etc.). Drmies (talk) 04:07, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Crisco, I have to confess that I'm puzzled by this one, having been involved in the WP:NSONG RfC last year and the resulting updates to close the charting loophole and point out that coverage only in the context of the album didn't count for individual songs. This AfD was something of a test case, with the usual characters arguing that any charting or coverage was enough (i.e., Aaron, Tomica). If they'd answered in terms of NSONG it would have made sense, but most of the Keep votes ignored it entirely or actually argued against it having validity. By their arguments, every song on that album is notable, which seems to gut the entire purpose of notability through NSONG. You're going to get half a dozen people who think that every Rihanna, or Katy, or Gaga, or Aguilera song on every album is notable, and they'll all be Keep or No consensus (which amounts to the same thing). BlueMoonset (talk) 04:08, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- My point exactly, BlueMoonset. This song isn't notable since it hasn't impacted her career or society at all. XXSNUGGUMSXX (talk) 04:20, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- Your side should have canvassed better, BlueMoonset. Yes, arguments should weigh more heavily, and AfD isn't a democracy, but the keepers seriously outnumbered the deleters. Rightly or wrongly, it's very difficult for an admin to go against fairly overwhelming numbers--though I agree with you on the substance of the matter. Drmies (talk) 04:47, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- Oops--let me be more clear: I mean the substance of your argument in the AfD. How I would have decided the AfD is a different matter. Drmies (talk) 04:55, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) My understanding of the rules, Drmies, is that canvassing is not allowed. Am I wrong? Should there be posts to the appropriate notability talk page when it has been invoked? If so, is the discussion supposed to be transcluded? Now that it's over, I may point out at Wikipedia talk:Notability (music) that decisions like this badly undercut the NSONG notability rules. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:08, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, canvassing is not allowed, which is why we like to use our socks to do the canvassing. I can't answer your other question--perhaps I don't really understand it (or the antecedent of your "it"). Can you post and discuss on Wikipedia talk:Notability (music)? Sure, why not? But let's wait and see if Crisco has anything to add. BTW, I still don't know who Katy Perry is, but a breast cast, that sounds interesting. For the record, I'm getting my belly cast for all the good people at Wikipedia Review. Drmies (talk) 05:35, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- I strongly recommend reassessing the decision to keep the article since there were stronger arguments made for deleting than there were keeping. Also, I must admit I find Calvin999's dismissal of WP:NSONGS and others' views concerning. The way he did so not only comes across as arrogant but also (implicitly) condescending. When he first found out about the article's nomination for deletion, he rudely stated that the Wikipedia community was "collapsing" because of editors such as myself. After I discouraged such patronizing remarks, he didn't even take it back or apologize. XXSNUGGUMSXX (talk) 06:37, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry all, had to teach and go to talk to my thesis counselor. As Drmies said, though AFD is not a simple vote, the fact that the !votes were 3 or 4 to 1 cannot be ignored; if I'd closed as delete, my head would have been on a platter pretty quickly. The most I could have done was close as no consensus (and even then there would have been complaints). Yes, there have been changes to NSONG, but the AFD suggests that such changes may not be well received by the community at general. My suggestion is to try and BRD: Redirect to the album, if (when) someone reverts, start a discussion, then try and find consensus there; WP:NSONGS clearly states that redirects are acceptable (also an argument against up and up deletion). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:45, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- The article creator is a fan, methinks, so I suppose that redirect will be reverted. This will need a bigger discussion, bigger than just one AfD and an admin's talk page. Sure, the risk is there that other editors are emboldened by this AfD (including the creator, who may take the discussion as a justification for reverting a redirect), so seeking a larger forum is a must, in my opinion. Drmies (talk) 17:12, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- I'm aware that it will be reverted, which is why I immediately suggested BRD. The issue is that AFD is mainly for determining whether an article should be deleted or not (though other outcomes are possible); relisting so that people can choose whether it should be redirected or not does not seem to be in form. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:11, 23 January 2014 (UTC)

Crisco, this is a tough one, and I'm hoping you can decide whether it should be rejected (it has been given an X), or if it needs further consideration. Non free image
Hi Crisco, what, if any, action should be taken when a non free image (that is up for deletion at the moment, maybe for the second time) is used in user boxes despite the editor being told about it on a previous occasion? There have been problems with the Shiba Inu article text constantly being altered to read 'doge' instead of dog, which is the only reason I noticed this - Doge (meme)'s are certainly not something I'm interested in! SagaciousPhil - Chat 10:49, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

You may recall very helpfully reviewing the images for William Burges when it was at FAR. I wonder if you'd be kind enough to have a look at two images for The Tower House, namely the elevations and the floor plans. I've taken them from The Survey of London, which is available at British History online, and is referenced both in the Notes and the References. I suspect both illustrations date from around the 1880s, and would therefore be out of copyright, but I don't know for sure. They improve the article hugely and will greatly enhance readers' understamding of the house but I've no ideally whether their use is allowed, and, if it is, how to categorise them in Wiki Commons. Any assistance you can provide would be much appreciated. Thanks and regards. KJP1 (talk) 08:00, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

W.E.F. Britten images
Absolutely no objection to them being put up separately, well-spaced, I'd imagine. They're very good poems (mostly - Oenone is not very good, and critics agree there), and encouraging thousands of people to read poetry can't hurt. Adam Cuerden (talk) 09:45, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

You deleted I Gusti Kompiang Raka as copyvio; it's been recreated, and I don't see much difference between the versions. But the editor has now translated it into English. I'm inclined to zap it as still a derivative of copyvio text, but you're in a better position to decide whether it's different enough and notable enough to be kept. On a separate subject....
You have Photoshop proper, right? Would you mind doing some vignetting fixes on a restoration I'm finishing up? It's the Hidatsa Dog Dancer image currently on the FPC. Just couldn't let it pass without restoration. Adam Cuerden (talk) 09:48, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
- Sure thing, but wouldn't cloning the original paper texture work as well? I mean, the vignetting is almost all in areas with no detail. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:30, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
- Could work, but GIMP makes it a bit non-trivial, since you still have to make the brightness match everywhere, including over the text, but the only brightness changes offered are "select an area, go to levels and change the local brightness." which means dozens and dozens of tweaks. You'll see once I'm done. =) Adam Cuerden (talk) 13:09, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
- I haven't worked with GIMP in that area as much (I basically restrict it to doing circle crops now, as it handles them much better than Photoshop), so that's good to know. Okay, just send it by Dropbox (if it's a TIFF or something) once you're ready (or if you can stand the lossiness, via Commons) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 17:58, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Hey, Crisco 1492. I've opened a discussion on the talk page regarding Schaubia. Afro-Eurasian (talk) 07:34, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
Gradients ready to be fixed
I think the remaining issue is very clear. If you can get that vignetting with Photoshop, and then upload over the PNG, and upload a JPEG version (I've set up the JPEG description page), methinks we have a FP. Adam Cuerden (talk) 00:25, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
- Alright, ready to give it a shot. Give me a bit (and since I'm stitching a panorama right now, it may be a while) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:30, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
- Still a bit of a light patch on the middle-left, and a dark patch over the text. Of course, we'll probably want to curves adjust it to lighten up the paper a bit once it's smoothed out, and that might conceal what we have so far, but I suspect lightening the bottom a bit more wouldn't hurt first. Adam Cuerden (talk)

- The big blocks of text at the bottom. The paper there is still a little darker than the rest of the paper. Adam Cuerden (talk) 02:22, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
- I'll upload another version, but I'm not quite pleased with it... I don't think I can get the paper perfectly even. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:51, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah, I can never get the background completely right for anything I don't scan myself. Still, I think it's a massive improvement. I've made some final tweaks; if you're reasonably happy, let's put it up. =) Adam Cuerden (talk) 07:14, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
- Alright, let me clear the errors on the left edge of the page (looks like the patch tool went wonky) then upload a JPG and PNG. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:29, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
- Sounds good. Adam Cuerden (talk) 08:21, 31 January 2014 (UTC)

DYK John Antwi
- Hi Crisco, thanks so much for the discussion that has gone on concerning [John Antwi], I have addressed your concerns, hope its good enough for you. Thanks once again. CrossTempleJay → talk 16:57, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, wow!! what a roller coaster ride it has been for my DYK nomination. But I have loved every bit of it. I learned some new things on the way too. Thanks a lot. I am wondering what you think about me pitching for a sysop on the english wikipedia. I have been engaged in mainly Ghanaian and African related edits, changes and articles. Just pitching the idea by you. Thanks so far for bringing the best out of me. CrossTempleJay → talk 16:23, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
- I'd have to go through your contribution history to be sure, but a bit of quick advice: make yourself familiar with WP:CSD, and show your understanding through proper tagging. That's derailed a few RFAs (almost derailed mine, in fact)... oh yeah, and make sure you have a reason why you need the tools (i.e. combating vandalism, NPP, etc.) rather than just want them. Content is useful, but RFA looks at quite a few areas of your on-Wiki work. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 18:01, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Crisco, I got two options on Amazon. A jar from Conimex (that's the most sold brand in Dutchland) or this here Serundeng Kelapa. Which do I pick? Or do I pick neither and make it myself? Drmies (talk) 22:15, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
- Never tried either. Looks yummy though. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:39, 2 February 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm. That's not helpful! I see now that the Conimex product is sold by a company that ships Dutch stuff all over the US, and they charge almost $10 for shipping. I think I'm going to try and make it myself. Drmies (talk) 05:31, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

DYK for Antemas

The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Antemas. I only saw the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Choose Your Battles discussion after it closed, from a link on DYK, actually. But it seems to me that while those favoring keep are more numerous, those favoring delete have the stronger policy-based argument. You didn't include any analysis in your close statement, may i inquire as to your reasoning on this close? DES (talk) 18:38, 2 February 2014 (UTC)
- Sure, previous discussion is here, where I highlighted my main points (in short, a bit of discussion in secondary sources, charting, and a very clear sense that the community is not necessarily in support of the new version of WP:NSONGS). With the benefit of hindsight, perhaps "No consensus" would have been best, but a straight up deletion would have been on very shaky grounds. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:09, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

POTD
Hey, Chris, there's been some comments on my talk page about the Yeoman Warder POTD. You may want to read them. User_talk:Adam_Cuerden#Request_for_Clarification_in_naming_and_photoshopping.
- Replied there. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:44, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
Could you write a nice POTD blurb?
File:Nrol-39.jpg, my first and only nomination to FPC, has been dubbed a FP!! Yays all round.
Looking ahead, POTD says that "Certain images may be placed on specific days" There has been some suggestion by others that File:Nrol-39.jpg might be perhaps scheduled on a specific day (Feb 11 or perhaps some other date).
I've never written a POTD nomination-- would you be willing to take a stab at writing a POTD nomination for File:Nrol-39.jpg? --HectorMoffet (talk) 14:39, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
- As I generally handle POTD, that would not be a problem. Right now POTD is scheduled through February 19; the 20th is the earliest I could squeeze it in. Thoughts? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:01, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
- Ping. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:46, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
- That's fine by me. There may later be talk to try to reschedule it for Feb 11, but that's less likely with each passing day. Regardless of run-date, it's be a huge step forward to get a nice neutral high-EV POTD nomination. I'd write it myself, but I know nothing about POTD, and besides, the less passion a writer has about the subject, the easier it is to hit the sweet spot that is NPOV. --HectorMoffet (talk) 23:50, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah, the RFC went bottoms up. I'd rather not run on the 11th if consensus is against it, as there will likely be complaints. However, the 21st is free so I'll schedule it for that date. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:54, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
- HectorMoffet, I've scheduled it for the 21st. Did you see Cracked.com's take (Number 1)? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:16, 4 February 2014 (UTC)

- "Yeah, the RFC went bottoms up. I'd rather not run on the 11th if consensus is against it-- I cannot express to you how much I endorse that sentiment. I was always just trying to offer options, not advocate for specific options. I never wanted any action unless it was supported by strong consensus.
The earlier proposal of taking mainpage into full editorial mode was very controversial, as it should be. We've gone editorial exactly once in 13+ years. It was controversial and all such proposals should be.
There is a much narrower proposal to make Feb 11 a "special day", sort of like the olympics. Wnt has opened my eyes to some of the values inherent in promoting the Olympics (e.g. Nationalism, Ableism)-- but running this POTD on Feb 11 would require absolute total NPOV in our content-- something very different than what I had initially proposed.
I babble. Main point: I agree with your conclusions 100%, thank you respecting NOTADVOCATE enough to avoid scheduling an out-of-order POTD . And just as much, I appreciate your respect for NOTBUREAUCRACY , and how you've never claimed veto if sufficient consensus had emerged for a Feb 11 run-date. You're good at your job! A+ --HectorMoffet (talk) 01:19, 4 February 2014 (UTC)- Thanks. Alright, gotta go. Master's theses don't write themselves (sadly!) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:21, 4 February 2014 (UTC)

Crisco, here's a DYK nomination that has stalled: it's a GA that was nominated, and has a reviewer and creator in a fundamental disagreement over the article subject matter and whether it's appropriate in general and for DYK in particular. There were five posts within 17 hours, and nothing for over two weeks since. I did try Orlady first, but she has no interest whatever in the subject. Bad habits
I see (and am grateful for) your addition of commas chez Ralph Richardson, closing subordinate clauses that I had negligently left open. This has been the besetting sin in my prose for fifty years. I used to be ticked off by my English masters at school, and I still keep forgetting the closing comma. Do you have a persistent bad habit in your prose I should look out for? Best wishes, Tim riley (talk) 16:06, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Need some advice or help, please
James Dunn (actor) has a non-free file File:James Dunn.jpg. Recently uploaded a PD one at Commons with exactly the same file name. There's no way to distinguish that we want to now use the PD photo and when I want to change it on the article, it doesn't happen. Don't want to remove it and call for SD as it's not a copyvio and the uploader deserves to know the facts re: the uploaded photo. (Not to mention the rumors that might start re: the "disappearance" of the photo.) I can:
- move the non free file here
- move the PD file at Commons
Either option would solve the issue by changing one of the names; which seems the least rude and disruptive? Thanks, We hope (talk) 01:53, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- I believe WP:F7 applies, which would avoid file moving altogether. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:05, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

This is a great image that deserves FP, but it's far, far underdocumented, and should not appear on the main page under any circumstances until it's know whether this is a visible light, radio, infrared, composite, or other type of image, and whether it's false or true colour. If false colour, at least a brief description of the colours is needed. Without that information, this image is pretty, but meaningless. Now, judging from http://www.imagingdeepsky.com/Nebulae/NGC6960/NGC6960.htm this is a true colour long-exposure image (A RGB mosaic should end up equivalent to a colour image, which, after all, is encoded in RGB), but I would like an astronomer to confirm I'm reading that correctly, and it should be added to the description page and caption. Adam Cuerden (talk) 12:52, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- Fair enough. Have you pinged User:The Herald? I think s/he was the uploader, and thus would be able to ask Crawford more easily. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:04, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- Based on what I can see on the page, it's stitched from three images. Can't be sure of anything else. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:08, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
Image in Joan McCracken DYK nom
I was hoping to clear some DYK reviews but I'm uncertain about the image in this one. Is it okay when it's come from youtube? It does have a US PD? Was there a full moon last night as there sure seems to have been some crazy goings on? SagaciousPhil - Chat 11:36, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- It's perfectly possible (that would be {{PD-US-no notice}}), but I'll have to watch the trailer to be sure. That being said, I would not allow the image anyways as it is terrible at 100px. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:39, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

- Thanks, that was fast! Should I stick a "DYK?" icon on the nom to at least hold the article off the main page until the image is sorted/removed? SagaciousPhil - Chat 12:14, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- If the hook runs without the image there shouldn't be a problem. I'd just suggest removing the image from the article and hook. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:06, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

Princess Ida on the main page
I'm guessing that putting it up on March 30th with a note stating that the restorer will be on-stage with it in Edinburgh from 1-5 April wouldn't fly? Adam Cuerden (talk) 00:30, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
- Everything up to "30th" would fly, but... Well, I don't need to tell you. Good job, though, sounds like a heck of an experience. My only stage experience was a failed amateur production of Kami, Perempuan, in 2012... — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:54, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
- Ah, well. March 30th would be good, anyway. Might get people to look around for productions. How about splitting it in two? 1,2,3,4 on the 30th, 5,6,7,8 on the 4th? Adam Cuerden (talk) 01:56, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm... I'll get back to you on that. I think there'd likely be a few complaints on the MP as it would link to the same article. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:00, 10 February 2014 (UTC)

- That is a news blog. There's a reason one would not cite it in the article (which, BTW, does not have anything confirmed; it has "As of February 4, 2014, the medical examiner's office has not stated an official cause of death"). Also, the author of the BBC piece says "apparently from heroin overdose"; that's not confirmation. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:03, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

- No worries. I went through it (quickly, I'll admit) earlier. I've got a translation project going on right now (RL), but I should be in front of the computer for most of the day tomorrow, my time. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:26, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
- I gave it two read-throughs today and didn't see anything else that jumped out at me. I'll give it another look later on and likewise don't expect to see anything out of whack. So I think its in good shape. It's a great article, would have been glad to support this at FAC. --ColonelHenry (talk) 21:10, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

No, I did not use Chuck's version - I don't like working from crops, and will only use a JPEG if the original source is a JPEG. Adam Cuerden (talk) 00:09, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
- I do wish people would upload as PNG. Mind, my crop's looser than Chuck's, so... Adam Cuerden (talk) 00:14, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
- Google Art Project stuff seems to have their only available source files as JPEGs. JPEGs do lose quality each save, so I'll use them, but try to avoid repeatedly-saved versions. Adam Cuerden (talk) 00:23, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

Czar
Just want to be clear, I meant Czar (political term) not Tsar, and I wasn't even thinking of you. I never had any dispute with how you handled anything-- there was never a consensus to run anything special on Feb 11, I never asked you to run anything special on Feb 11, and if I did ask to put anything into a queue it doesn't belong in, please pop it out.
I wish I could say your treatment was representative. I was treated very shabbily by some people. Let's remember I never nominated anything to TFA-- I was attacked for nothing more than scribblings while sandboxing. I didn't seek out an argument about TFA-- I never got consensus for anything. I was just minding my own business when someone showed up to treat me rudely and told me consensus didn't matter. And it turns out he's right!
So I quit, and it turns out I'm the not even the first user to have quit over this?
So yeah yeah, I'm leaving, and I'll leave politely, and indeed, in most ways I've already left for Scholarpedia. But on my way out the door, I do need have a minor need to pass on what I learned about the way we actually run Main, not how we pretend to run main. --HectorMoffet (talk) 16:14, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
- That sounds like a very worthy effort, and I should think your contributions will be of some value there (although of course they have value here as well). Sadly, based on the article regarding Scholarpedia, I could not contribute, as my field (Indonesian literature and popular media) is well outside their scope.
- I did not mean to seem offended by your use of the term, and I do not have any issues with the NROL patch running (I usually put requests first, especially for first-time nominators). It's just that there are a lot of hard calls that Bencherlite, who manages the most visible part of the main page, has to make, and considering the doozy he just had to make (regarding Fuck), I felt he didn't need anything directed at him (especially as it was not entirely pertinent to the OP).
- Regarding the article nomination you brought up, it has... a long enough background, which is plastered throughout Wikipedia. Although I voted to run the article, and reviewed it at the FAC, I understand why Bencherlite needed to close the discussion as he did: long standing consensus was that articles are not run more than once, and any attempts to do so needed to get prior approval. It's rather telling that, in ten years of TFA, only two articles have run twice. If this consensus was going to be changed, it needed wider discussion than just the people who showed up to vote for the nomination... it would have been a fairly major change, of a long-established consensus, and people who may have agreed with Sherman running twice may not have agreed with this as a general principle (if, say, Lie Kim Hok were nominated to be run twice, would it get as much support?). — Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:26, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
- Sadly, that case isn't known well enough-- For example, if only I had known about it two months ago, I never would have even considered the main page project, I never would have met some people, and I wouldn't be leaving now. So, it may be old news to you insiders, but it's new news to the rest of us, and the more people who know about it upfront, the less drama there will be.
- You compliment his work, but you miss my point-- I'm not saying he's a "bad" king. He may well be a wise and just king solomon when it comes to making the hard calls. But we have two problems:
- I was under the misunderstanding that we didn't have any kings around here and when I found out otherwise, I knew my time here was over. That problem is solved by me setting sail for other projects.
- Even if, as you claim, we have a good King, you must admit we do not have a polite king, and in my case he was an outright rude king. And I think it's up to his friends put a stop to it before his enemies do (counting myself in neither group).
- My first experience with the man was when he freaking edit warred over a freaking sandboxy-draft! My first knowledge that we even had a TFA coordinator was when the TFA coordinator showed up in my sandboxy-draft to tell me how he would be closing my RFC, before I had even written one or decided what I would even propose! Said he: "It's quite simple - whatever comes out of this proposal, as the TFA coordinator I will not be running any FA for a second time". I replied that "The community as a whole, however, may choose to display a re-run, assuming we got sufficient consensus for it." His reply: " I think you'll find that not only I do have that authority but I in fact have the final say on what appears at TFA"
- You compliment his work, but you miss my point-- I'm not saying he's a "bad" king. He may well be a wise and just king solomon when it comes to making the hard calls. But we have two problems:
- Rudeness is not a necessary byproduct of hard work-- our board members and our arbs do hard work while holding themselves to a standard of civil behavior that is clearly lacking here.
- I know you're here to defend your fellow editor, but can you honestly read the above and just pat him on the back and say "Good work introducing yourself to that user. I wouldn't change a thing!"??? Can you look at the Sherwood case and honestly say "Good work closing that on-going discussion a month early because you had already made up your mind how you were going to close it, no matter what four weeks of consensus-generating might have produced!"?
- Don't answer me-- I won't hear the answer and the answer isn't meant for me. If I'm his only problem then he has no problems. I'm not a reformer. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm his only problem-- by my rough count there are six or seven people who appear to be chomping at the bit to have ANYONE but him in the job, and he's only been doing it for a year. If he keeps generating enemies at this rate, they will outstrip his allies, and that would be ugly.
- I wish you luck.--HectorMoffet (talk) 17:46, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
- Do you have a diff to the "edit war" you mention? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:55, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

DYK for Streatham portrait
On 13 February 2014, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Streatham portrait, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the Streatham portrait (pictured) is widely held to be a bad painting yet was purchased by the National Portrait Gallery for a rumored £100,000? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Streatham portrait. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Poisoning the minds of children

I appreciate your offer to help with the fair use image. I'm afraid that free images are going to be impossible to find. She only made two movies, and their trailers both have copyright notices. However, lengthy clips are avaialble online of her dance routines in both movies, and I was thinking that I might be able to get a screenshot from either of them (actually a better quality one than the Commons image) and utilize that within the body of the article. See, both dance routines, the ones in Good News and Hollywood Canteen, were the subject of extensive critical commentary by Sagola in her book The Girl Who Fell Down. I can expand, perhaps, the discussion of the dance routines a tad, and use a screenshot (or screenshots) as fair use to illustrate one or perhaps both. How does that sound? Coretheapple (talk) 17:48, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
Oh never mind. Turns out someone found a free image, so it seems that we won't or can't be able to use a fair use image. Coretheapple (talk) 21:51, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
- Ooh. Do you have a link? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:02, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- Ah. Found by We hope. I was just going to suggest you ask him/her to hunt you down a picture. We hope does fantastic work, hunting Ebay and other sources for free images. The Shirelles was made a lot better by the image he/she found. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:05, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- No actually user:BettyLogan. Never thought of looking through Ebay, and the idea of finding a publicity photo (in this case an excellent one) without a copyright is a corking good idea! Coretheapple (talk) 00:16, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- Betty Logan? But the uploader in the file history is We hope. Anyways, I'm trying to remove the watermark in the first image. It might take a while, but the end result will be a better infobox picture. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:25, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- What do you think, Core? Acceptable for an infobox? File:Joan McCracken 1950.jpg. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:24, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- Oh you're right, I'm sorry. It was We Hope (I thought you were being metaphorical). I guess Betty just added it to the article. I think the photo is fine. The watermark adds class! Coretheapple (talk) 01:29, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- Watermark? Or do you mean the studio tag / w.e.? I can remove it if necessary. Personally, I thought the second upload was way too harsh a crop... I much prefer the looking over the shoulders pose. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:32, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- Oh I meant the studio tag. Yes, I think your crop is much better. Very fetching pose. Still casts a spell fifty-some years after her death, wouldn't you say? Coretheapple (talk) 01:40, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- Very much so. Same reason I worked on the Roekiah article, to be honest. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:48, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- Joan McCracken's number in Hollywood Canteen was high camp, but she was one hell of a dancer.See for yourself. Hard to believe she was suffering from diabetes during this number and her entire career. Coretheapple (talk) 04:18, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- I'll have to see if I can find some of her works here. It sure isn't easy... Indonesians don't really like paying for classic movies. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:24, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- By the way, regarding the YouTube video I just linked to, do you think that I would be justified to use a screenshot from that video to illustrate an article I just started, LeRoy Prinz? There is no free image available of that person so far as I can tell, and the illustration of the dance number could be used, perhaps, as there is critical commentary in the article on that particular dance number. What do you think? Coretheapple (talk) 05:46, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- It would be workable, although I strongly suggest checking ebay (or talking to We hope) to see if there are free images available first. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:49, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- Yep, you're right. Ebay has a few, including one without a watermark. Coretheapple (talk) 05:57, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- No, on closer examination I see a copyright notice. Here is the ebay search.[2] Several photos, but all have watermarks. Coretheapple (talk) 06:00, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

- No actually user:BettyLogan. Never thought of looking through Ebay, and the idea of finding a publicity photo (in this case an excellent one) without a copyright is a corking good idea! Coretheapple (talk) 00:16, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
Okay. To be safe, upload the back over the front, then revert to the front. If the ebay link goes down, you'll still have proof there was no copyright notice. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:05, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

Dispute
Crisco, you know you are INVOLVED. If you want to intervene in my dispute with Bench, don't pretend your NOTINVOLVEd. If I'm going to be warned, it's not going to be from someone already involved in the dispute.
crisco, you are WP:INVOLVED. We have thousands of admins-- if bench keeps going to you for every dispute, it's pretty obviously you're not a neutral fact finder. I'm willing to leave the entire fucking project in exchange for ONE paragragph. If that's too much for Bench, then send us to some sort of dispute resolution or arbcom proceeding. I was willing to leave, but not without getting a paragraph in explaining my departure. I've earned that-- I'll fight for it. --HectorMoffet (talk) 14:53, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- "In general, editors should not act as administrators in cases in which they have been involved." Read the policy. I have been perfectly in line with it the entire time. I have I have not acted as an admin in your dispute with Bencherlite, and if you do end up blocked for edit warring, it will not be I who pulls the trigger. You should take a break and calm down, as almost everyone has been telling you either explicitly or implicitly. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:55, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- And Bencherlite has not come to me for this dispute. I have his talk page on my watchlist. I have Jimbo's page on my watchlist. I have been attempting to do some damage control during your spurt of the WP:DIVAs, so that if you do leave here it will not be with an indefinite block preventing your return. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:57, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

Streatham portrait
I'm happy to take a look (I'm familiar with the portraits assumed to be Jane Grey. I might not get to it for a couple of days... or I might do it later today.) - PKM (talk) 21:02, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- I made one small change; those are usually called trumpet sleeves not farthingale sleeves - "farthingale sleeve" refers to a sleeve which which is big at the top rather than the bottom and is supported with whalebone or reeds to keep it poofy. If you have a source that specifically calls this a farthingale sleeve, I'd say they are mistaken.
- [Original research warning!] There are a couple of features about the Streatham portrait that bug me - the shape of the undersleeves is atypically narrow for c. 1555 and the oversleeves are too droopy. But that's neither here nor there for your article, which sums up the controversy around the portait quite nicely. Good luck with it! - PKM (talk) 03:46, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

- Again attempts are made to revert back and conceal availaible information from reputed news sources. - An admin who has not been involved in this article before may want to fully protect it. Any talk page stalkers up to it? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:27, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- Good decision , the article should be fully protected in its current form as I dont see the issue resolving in near future , hence for NPOV both should be written as claimants only citing various issues over the succession. Moreover the matter has gone into courts as in the alleged succession video ,no one was named by Burhanuddin as he was completely disabled and could not speak, move .

- I am involved, having reverted and attempted to clean up the article, so I cannot protect the page. I pinged a fellow admin, User:Mark Arsten, who is well-versed in dealing with edit wars and page protection, but as he is still asleep (probably) I don't think he will reply for another 2 or 3 hours. I also posted on the Edit Warring noticeboard. If, in 2 or 3 hours, nothing has been done, I think WP:ANI is our only choice. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shahid Azimi Dam
Hi, Crisco 1492. I am curious how to find here that there is no consensus? Because by my understanding, if you read what different editors said, clear consensus was there as consensus does not need unanimity. Maybe you could elaborate your rationale behind of this decision? Beagel (talk) 07:26, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
- Who said there had to be unanimity? There is one editor arguing to keep, with the very valid point that there may be (in fact, likely are) sources in Farsi; that there are no sources in English is not evidence of a lack of notability (WP:NOENG). There is another editor, and yourself, !voting for deletion, bringing up issues of the article not being improved (not part of WP:N; that sources exist, assuming they exist, is enough) and a valid counter to the claim that all dams are notable, as they are becoming increasingly commonplace. Norty proposed a valid compromise, and personally that's what I would have !voted if I participated in the AFD, but nobody commented on his/her suggestion, and so we cannot say there is a consensus there. The AFD ran three weeks, all that is generally allocated, so I closed as no consensus. This close does not mean you can't just boldly redirect the article (feel free, if you want), just that there is no consensus at the current time for deleting. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:33, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
- What NortyNort said was: "Redirect to List of power stations in Iran or just delete." And it is unlikely that there are even sources in Farsi, other than just mentioning it, to satisfy WP:GNG. 1-MW hydrodam is very small size for that kind of dams and one can't assume its notability automatically. It would also be helpful if instead of just saying "no consensus" the decision was explained. Beagel (talk) 08:46, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
- With bold indicating his/her preference, which you seem to be leaving out. I never supported assuming automatic notability. Rather, I said "a valid counter to the claim that all dams are notable," meaning that I am working under the assumption that not all dams are notable. As this did not look to be a controversial close, nor even a close one to me, I did not include a rationale there (which is, again, common practice in AFD). You asked, you got my rationale. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:55, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
