Yazid I

This is regarding your wikipedia correction on the article Yazid I. I wrote what is widely believed. You can validate it by taking poll. Please take the poll by the following phrase "Do you consider yazid an illegitimate caliph". Please do that — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amaan Imtiyaz (talkcontribs) 18:33, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Polls are irrelevant. Wikipedia articles (to quote from WP:PILLARS) "must strive for verifiable accuracy, citing reliable, authoritative sources". Favonian (talk) 18:58, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Quark dispute

With all the due respect, sir, how are my edits considered to be disruptive editing? I've simply been trying to fix a scientific incorrect statement. I'm not IP-jumping. I'm a physics professor. I don't have a Wikipedia account. I edit Wikipedia occasionally when I see an obvious error. And no, I'm not a warrior. I'm simply a scientist that is trying to fix an error on Wikipedia.

Editor Cuzkatzimhut has a poor understanding of particle physics. He couldn't provide any valid counter-argument against my claim, which is backed up by many scientific experiments. See Talk:Quark#Free quark. It is clear that he tried to use circular reasoning and ignored all the scientific facts I provided.

Editor Ruslik0 claims that my sources are not reliable.

  1. How is a published book not a reliable source? (source 1)
  2. Source 2 is from CERN website. CERN has the largest particle physics lab in the world. It is leading the world in particle physics research.
  3. Source 3 is from Forbes. Forbes is a well-known American magazine that explains science for the layman. Source 3 is written by a Ph.D. astrophysicist.

The information in the quark article was written over 10 years ago. It's outdated, and nobody has updated it for the last 10 years. Now, as physicists gain more understanding of the quarks, physicists discover things that they didn't know for sure before. There are many many sources that support my statement. Here are 3 more sources from many more in addition to the 3 sources above: from Livescience, from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and from European Commission, managed by European Union. 14.169.212.232 (talk) 06:52, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Keep the discussion on the article talk page. If you can't get consensus there, the article won't be changed. Favonian (talk) 07:00, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
How do you get consensus when someone is refusing to reach consensus (by circular reasoning combined with a poor understanding of physics)? They also made incorrect claim about my sources. So basically, you're telling me your solution is to leave a scientific incorrect fact alone in the Quark article when I'm trying to fix it, backed up by an abundant scientific research from many many reliable sources. 14.169.212.232 (talk) 07:16, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Incorrect reversal

The correct venue for this discussion is Talk:Patxi Xabier Lezama Perier

The Reversal you have made is incorrect, you should have performed the reversal to: 14:01, 18 June 2020‎ 85.84.33.223 talk‎ 6,061 bytes +1,272‎. In this edition are the references, author's books and external links. In the current rollback, in addition to removing references, list of books and links, you have left repeated references. No personal attacks, please. You've already been directed to Talk:Patxi Xabier Lezama Perier, where this discussion belongs. --Yamla (talk) 20:18, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

This discussion and this question, I make it on the page of the user who reversed the edition as is normal and consistent, since he is the one who has to answer it. On the other hand where they direct me is blocked, both the talk and the edition are blocked. Let's see if we have a little more common sense and coherence, because it is NOT a personal attack to tell him to answer the question.--85.84.33.223 (talk) 21:26, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

To educate, as opposed to teaching, is to answer a question that is formulated from a concrete situation of need; it is to be attentive to respond to the aspirations of a specific (educating) subject who expresses himself from specific situations, forms and languages.--85.84.33.223 (talk) 21:37, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Need your help

Hey Favonian, i nominated Medo-Babylonian conquest of the Assyrian Empire to GA level, however, the reviewer suggested to uniformize the cites (with Harv style), but i don't know if it is possible to insert a link in the Harv style in order to make verifiability easier for our readers. The article already contains some Harv style cites but without any access to the cited sources using that formatting. Take care.---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 18:32, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Wish I could help you, Wikaviani, but my knowledge of Harv style and its competitors is insufficient. Not being much of a content creator, I have never really had the need. Favonian (talk) 18:34, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your answer. Best.---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 18:36, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) @Wikaviani: I'm not sure I quite understand what you're trying to achieve, but here's what I suggest you do.
Create a "Bibliography" section just under "References" and add all your sources to it, one per line, like so (taking Lipschitz as an example):
* Lipschitz, Oded (2005). The Fall and Rise of Jerusalem: Judah Under Babylonian Rule. Eisenbrauns. ISBN 978-1-57506-095-8.
or (bearing in mind that although linking to Google books is not strictly necessary in this case, it does help):
* Lipschitz, Oded (2005). The Fall and Rise of Jerusalem: Judah Under Babylonian Rule. Eisenbrauns. ISBN 978-1-57506-095-8.
Then for each referenced page (let's say 17), you just add {{sfn|Lipschitz|2005|p=17}} as a ref.
Hope this helps and that you and Favonian are doing well in these trying times. M.Bitton (talk) 00:27, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
@M.Bitton: Thank you very much mate, that is exactly what i needed, gonna try it. Besides, yeah, i'm doing quite well, given that crazy times we have these days, hope you and yours are all safe and sound. Cheers.---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 08:56, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

advice please re change of registration details AND computer failure.

Greetings Favonian, My wife overruled my request for a new computer until it started overheating and had to be replaced in March this year. This coincided with a problem with Windows Live 12, a corroded street BNC connector and duplicate emails, 220,000 (sic) (March 2010) and I therefore got a new email address. Although I can still log in, I've managed to forget my password. I suspect that a request for a reminder went straight to the old email address despite me quoting my new email address.

Any suggestions? JRPG (talk) 10:40, 3 July 2020 (UTC) from lockdown Leicester.

@JRPG: That's an unpleasant predicament. If I understand Help:Reset password and the small print at Help:Logging in#What if I forget the password? correctly, your only option is to create a {{committed identity}}. It's a bit "old school", but I guess it's still acceptable since it's mentioned in the official help pages. (How can someone who has been doing software development for nearly 40 years claim to believe in the validity of documentation?) If this approach doesn't work, you'll end up having to create a new account and link the two as described. Best of luck from (recklessly) reopening Denmark. Favonian (talk) 09:50, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
Favonian, thank you so much for your help both on this problem and on many others in the past. It's people like you who make Wikipedia the great educational resource for all ages that it is, and I don't make comments like this very often. Once again, thanks. JRPG (talk) 20:26, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

Hello, thanks for using the block button. And here's one more for you: Deviant_chamber_wall (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). That one is also Evlekis based on behavioural evidence (reverting me, typical edit summaries, and so on). - Tom | Thomas.W talk 08:22, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

A "newbie" knowing about WP:BLANKING is always interesting, but the gun needs to smoke more convincingly before I swing the mop. Favonian (talk) 08:27, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
See this. "Epsom Nutcracker" is one of Evlekis' standard aliases, and often referred to in edit summaries when he wants to get caught and blocked (and "Bucksham Co-operative", and variations thereof, is another), i e used as his signature/tag. Here's a few of his socks using variations of "Epsom Nutcracker" as user name, to show the connection to Evlekis, all of them taken from the page history of my talk page, including one who is CU-confirmed as being Evlekis: Special:Contributions/Epsom Nutcracker EN, Special:Contributions/E.N (Epsom_Nutcracker), Special:Contributions/EPSOM-0-nutcracker, Special:Contributions/EPSOMNUTCRACKER. - Tom | Thomas.W talk 10:06, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
Thanks! That was subtle, but convincing. Sock dispatched! Favonian (talk) 10:41, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
I know what to look for. He probably gets a kick out of not getting blocked in spite of having tagged his edits, i.e. deliberately having provided clues to who it is. It's probably the only kicks he ever gets nowadays, considering the sorry life he's living, spending all of his spare time vandalising Wikipedia... - Tom | Thomas.W talk 11:06, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
  • I can add that "Max Pumpkin", and all possible variations thereof, is also an alias/signature/tag used by Evlekis, although not as often as the two I mentioned above ("Epsom Nutcracker" and "Bucksham Co-operative" and all possible variations thereof, including referring to just "the co-operative/cooperative"...). He's also trying to impersonate me on other websites, BTW, with as little success there as here. - Tom | Thomas.W talk 18:03, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
@Thomas.W: I've been blocking these socks on the daily, the idiocy is never ending. I don't normally recommend this, but in your case the harassment is severe enough I feel like it's warranted. Have you considered starting fresh with a new account? All you would have to do is add a tag to your new userpage that states this account is a valid cleanstart. It might also be helpful to notify ARBCOM if you would want your userrights migrated to the new account, although that is optional. Since he appears to be stalking your contribs, you might be able to edit in peace if you abandoned your current account for a new one. Sro23 (talk) 04:14, 8 July 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for blocking the "extra" account. Making a "double revert", i.e. using two different sock accounts right after each other, like on Nordea, is a standard trick of his, which I usually notice, but didn't this time, probably because of not having had my usual afternoon coffee today. - Tom | Thomas.W talk 15:48, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
@Drmies: It's best practice to not allow these socks TP access. Months or sometimes years later, he logs back into his old blocked accounts and spews abuse on his talk pages. Sro23 (talk) 15:58, 10 July 2020 (UTC)

Daily Mail as source

Favonian, we are in agreement. DM is not reliable. This is just showing where he wrote his anti-vaxxer content. It is impossible to show these views of his without citing the DM. Reinstating the text now. If you can think of a way of showing his anti-vaxxer views without referencing his DM articles, please do so.Men2ge4zhong3 (talk) 10:57, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

@Men2ge4zhong3: You may not do that. Unreliable sources in a WP:BLP is an absolute no-no!. Favonian (talk) 10:58, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

But how can we show Peter's views, then? You keep avoiding the point, which is that this is to show his views.Men2ge4zhong3 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 11:02, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

@Men2ge4zhong3: You should raise the question on Talk:Peter Hitchens. Favonian (talk) 11:04, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

But this is ridiculous. You are edit warring every single reference to Peter's views (are you Peter, in denial?) then avoid answering the question when we ask how these can be referenced without citing their sources.Men2ge4zhong3 (talk) 11:07, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

@Men2ge4zhong3: It's Wikipedia policy. If you continue breaking it, I'll block you! Favonian (talk) 11:08, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Favonian, you are asserting authority without justifying your actions. Again, how can we show Peter's views without citing their sources? Are you Peter, trying to conceal your anti-science pieces?Men2ge4zhong3 (talk) 11:13, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

If you can't find a reliable source, then the claims won't be added to the article – period! Favonian (talk) 11:16, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Favonian, there is a misunderstanding here. There are no "claims". The article is showing his views. As it happens, we have managed to resurrect the anti-vaxxer section because the BMJ referred to it. But you risk suppressing all criticism of Peter by allowing him to hide his views wherever they were published only in the Mail. Also, please note there are still multiple references to the DM/MoS on the page, so if this rule is real (that you cannot expose a Mail journalist's views), then it is currently not being followed on the page.Men2ge4zhong3 (talk) 11:40, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Men2ge4zhong3 Incase you're not aware - An RFC was held at WP:DAILYMAILRFC and the consensus was to essentially ban the use of the Daily Mail from being used here. I can't be bothered to go diff hunting but there's atleast 2 editors I know of who routinely remove the Daily Mail from articles so everyones reverting has nothing to do with you or Peter .... it's purely a case of that site being banned here,
I hope that better explains it, Happy editing, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 11:56, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

SPI clerk?

Hi Favonian, I've noticed you patrolling SPI's and otherwise involved in sockpuppetry cleanup for years, and you've always been good at it. I'm sure you've been told this before, but I think you would make an exceptional SPI clerk! SPI is perpetually backlogged and understaffed, and admin clerks in particular are in high demand, so I'm sure a CU would be willing to train you right away. The training process usually takes about a few months, and the clerking itself isn't all that different from what you're already doing at SPI's now. So, what do you think? Would you be interested in clerkship? Sro23 (talk) 16:54, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

@Sro23: Thank you! That's a very flattering invitation. I'll think it over and give you a real reply tomorrow. Favonian (talk) 17:06, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
Great, thanks! It's completely up to you, so it's okay if you decline; SPI needs good admin patrollers too. But I hope you don't! Sro23 (talk) 17:17, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Edit war warning

Hello Favonian,

Thank you for the warning, I am relatively new to wikipedia editing and as such I have had some issues with the coptic orthodox church page; (1) using copyright information which was taken down and (2) using instagram as a source for an ongoing social movement which had the section taken down. I have spoken to fellow editors to fix these issues amicably.

That being said, if you look at the history of the page, this section has been taken down several times by random IPs or other users and subsequently returned by editors other than myself. I believe the section is being deleted because it is pushing a viewpoint. What do you recommend that I do.

Thanks in advance --Titus Obelisk (talk) 20:50, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

User:Teddy Hastings

Hi. You blocked user Teddy Hasting a few weeks ago for edit warring and he never really stopped after returning from the block. It's beginning to get out of hand the last few days. A handful of editors have issued warnings but the behavior has not changed. As of today he's actively edit warring in two separate articles: [1], [2], [3]. This editor has thus far ignored several warnings about a variety of guideline violations and is driving a few editors absolutely insane with his behavior. Can you intervene again before this escalates further? SolarFlashDiscussion 16:07, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

Hello, just a always this unpleasent and arrogant?

Forgot to include your community-imposed ban from this Wikipedia in your résumé.

Just a small pair of questions because your arrogance and self important is almost embarrassing as it is unnecessary. GROW UP. You do NOT own Wikipedia, it is for everyone. Do you behave like a bully in person? No I highly doubt you do, you just hide behind you computer/laptop/phone screen destroying people's tota;;y valid contribution SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU YOURSELF DO NOT AGREE WITH THEM. GROW UP. Do you realise you're dealing with other human beings. Regardless of whether or not I am LouisPhilippeCharles or not, I'm still A PERSON, WHO HAS DONE NOTHING WRONG TO YOU. I assume you'll revert my corrections to Marie Thérèse of France (Charlotte was in honour of King Charles III of Spain, not her aunt, why show blatently incorrect information? Like, seriously why?) The point is, just because you have a ability to block IPs does NOT give you the RIGHT to treat other people like dirt on your shoe. I've done nothing wrong other than stand up to bullies and bureaucrats like you. I honestly do think you forget you're dealing with other human beings though. So regarding me, LouisPhilippeCharles, here's some things about me :

  • I'm 29.
  • I live in Buckinghamshire.
  • I went to the same school as Steve Redgrave.
  • I had a Traumatic brain injury in 2012, which was reported in the Bucks Free Press.
  • I'm 75% blind as a result of the above injury.
  • I've been to the The Ritz Hotel, London
  • I went on the QE2 when I was 16.
  • I'm a human being.
  • I've made HUNDREDS of articles on Wikipedia over however long a period ranging from difference languages to different subjects until that option was, wrongly ripped away from me by bullies like you.

Just don't be so self important and intolerant. 94.30.89.122 (talk) 08:48, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

Your fake information

Your are telling lies. You opinion and edition is fake. That was not neutral information about cruel ruler Ramses II. You hide the actual cause of death. His dead body was examined by Dr Maurice Bucaille and he reaveled that he was droned in the Sea. Majority history revealed that he was a cruel ruler. You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time if you edit fake information. And what you lier thing??People like you can't censor youtube.

BKFIP

Newest IP (please see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/82.132.220.111), continues to taunt me in edit summaries even tough my editorial profile (aka edit summaries) is as low as can be nowadays. For example, in Abel Ferreira, all i did lately was clean up the vandalism (some PAOK fan who hates the manager, i guess) and overlinks and POV like no tomorrow. But the BKFIP nuisance had to concentrate again on me, a pity...

Already blocked. If it's any comfort, the deeds of 355pr355 shows that you're not his sole obsession. Favonian (talk) 16:03, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

I see that the person continues to post WP:FOOTY threads one after the other regarding me. Am i being an utter nuisance, regarding MOS? If i am just say the word, i'll leave (in the meantime, a message in my user page where the person is not completely wrong, since i have not stopped editing, just with the account). Sick and tired of this bullshit, i just want to contribute in the quiet man (i suppose if i was being so disruptive i would have been blocked/banned long ago)!

Fawcett baronets

Hello, Favonian,

I was looking at editor SC92Bonaparte who claims to a member of royalty and noticed that she has recently created a draft and a deleted article (Fawcett baronets) about this supposed royal position. I noticed that you had blocked Baronofashford and his sockpuppets for creating different versions of this same article and was wondering if you could look over this newish account as well as her previous account Bonapartesc92 and see what you thought. In one she claims to be a lawyer and in the other, a physician, so there is a lack of truthfulness from the outset. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 16:30, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, Liz! That's definitely the same aspiring aristocrat, now relegated once more to the plebs. Favonian (talk) 16:37, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

No one said anything about vandalism, but you have to provide a reliable source for claims like that in a biography of a living person. Can't you find a better reference? Tabloids are more sensationalist than reliable. Favonian (talk) 18:37, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

Why... Request

I put a request on Wikipedia:Requests for page protection to reduce the level of the title of the Emiway Bantai article, but you declined it. Let me tell you that the review of the Draft:Emiway Bantai (rapper) draft has been reviewed by critics and administrators have also described it as a good article (worth publishing). If you go to the draft, then a user (probably a reviewer) has commented that, it can be made only by the administrator. When I talked to the administrators on this topic, they said that they only need the Protect Admin permission, if the Protect Admin is offline (I messaged the admin but he is probably offline) then you can make a request on Wikipedia:Requests for page protection to reduce the protection level. But you have declined it. Please reduce the protection level. TechToker (talk) 10:43, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

The note at the top of the page clearly states "Review waiting, please be patient." If it's accepted, the reviewer will typically request unprotection. Favonian (talk) 11:41, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

I am sorry but this was not an answer to my question or a solution to the request, problem. TechToker (talk) 11:50, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

Template:User Kafir Lives Matter

I rangeblocked the IP for repeat blanking, but I'm curious about this template; it looks like it's been around awhile, but don't understand the intention. Apparently kafir is a derogatory word for "non-believer" in the context of Islam; is this some sort of subtle dig against Islam? "Atheist Lives Matter" would seem to be more neutral. OhNoitsJamie Talk 17:23, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

@Ohnoitsjamie: Nearly got nervous twitches when I reverted the IP. Ever since "All lives matter" became a phrase not to be uttered, one should consult a lawyer and SoMe consultant before pressing "Save". It's also sort of worrying that the creator has been banned. Wonder if the Wikipedia would be better off without the template. Favonian (talk) 17:31, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, there was a recent heated discussion about Wikipedia's neutrality in determining which templates should be allowed/not allowed, and I recall at least one long-time user throwing in the towel as a result of the discussion. If it was up to me, we'd just eliminate any vaguely political badges/buttons/declarations from userspace, but that's probably not going to happen. OhNoitsJamie Talk 17:35, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

New sock of blocked USER:Ultrabomb

Hello. A new user, User:አልትራቦምብ, who is seemingly a new sock of the blocked User:Ultrabomb is currently making rather familiar edits to the Khazar hypothesis of Ashkenazi ancestry page. I reverted them once with explanations in the summary (not realizing at first that they were a likely sock) and then again (after they returned to instate a similar edit, and I realized who they likely were). They have returned with the same sources Ultrabomb and their socks always use (and a very similar edit summary to that usually used by Ultrabomb and their various socks - about making the page "neutral"). Here is their most recent edit: [[4]]. and the page's edit history: [[5]] Hopefully they do not edit war (though in my experience, Ultrabomb tends to edit war). I believe it may have been you in the past who has addressed (perhaps blocked) the various Ultabomb socks that have occurred on this and related pages. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
