Society for All British Road EnthusiastsWhy did you delete this using "speedy deletion"? The Society is quite possibly the foremost authority on British Roads, and the SABRE name has been mentioned in the media a few times - certainly, enough to give it notability. I request that you either revert your deletion, or place the matter up for discussion. Vandalism? Why are you deleting everything I make. You're really pissing me off. It's hard to see why you were making large and complex changes to someone else's wikipage without discussion. However, I am aware that I use vandalism in edit summaries a bit too easily, and probably shouldn't here. What the hell IS going on here, anyway? Will be going out myself on the various articles tagged for the other deprecated banners myself. Some of the projects already engage in their own assessments, and they might be less willing, at least initially, to use the Africa banner, and there might be a problem of category equivalence in some cases. I don't think that they'd object to having their banner removed if another relevant AfricaProject is involved and they can get their assessments with the same banner, though. Jack London is only "start class?"Yes, it's ego, since I've been heavily involved in the article, but I'm baffled as to why it is only rated "start class." I'm writing to you because you inserted the entry classifying it as such. It's certainly longer than the Britannica's five paragraphs, and I think it's obviously more complete and more comprehensive. Dr. Clarice Stasz has called the article "sophisticated and well-researched" here and recommends it to students. She's a recognized Jack London scholar, author of two biographical books about London; I've never met her, I'm not a colleague or student of hers, and she's had no involvement in the article. Any ideas on how to extract and stick dates next to the single-person biography lists? I'd be interested in mini-groupings of 20th-century, 19th-century, classical Greek/Roman, etc. biographies, if possible. I'm sticking to cross-referencing with "Living people" first. Carcharoth (talk) 01:29, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
Separating out group biographies and single-person biographiesI suggested this before at the talk page {{WPBiography}}, but I don't think anything got done. Category:FA-Class biography articles, like all the WP 1.0 assessment categories, includes featured lists, which I want to separate out. Easily done (eg. using CatScan) but still annoying to have stuff mixed up like that. More specific to WPBiography is the mixing up of group articles (in this case music group articles) with single-person biographies. It is the latter I wanted to extract, and that took a while, especially as the "musicians" category includes both single-person musician biographes and music group "biographies". I suspect this is a historical feature due to the set up of WPBiography being done by you - is this right? I have no problems with music groups being included in WPBiography, but I do wish they could be filtered out more easily. Music groups are not the only examples of "group" articles, of course, but they are the most common, I think. Would you be able to help roll out a "group" parameter for use in WPBiography? Or failing that, the more ambitious proposal I made here? Carcharoth (talk) 11:12, 23 February 2008 (UTC) Your help please...I see you deleted Sarfraz Ahmed (unnumbered Guantanamo captive). Deletion, without a second set of eyes?I see you are back from your wikibreak. As I noted above I raised my concern about these eight deletions on WP:AN/I. A number of people felt sure you deleted these articles after they had been properly tagged by someone else. In the interest of clarity -- you did perform these deletions without a second set of eyes, correct? We are all volunteers here. No one should feel terrible for realizing they made a mistake. AGF. I am going to assume the reason you haven't offered an explanation for your deletions is not that you don't feel accountable -- that there is some other reason. I remain mystified as to why you haven't responded to my queries
Kingboyk, there are clearly intelligent wikipedia contributors who value your contributions. They have told me they know you are busy, in real life. And I suggested that no matter how busy you are in real life this should not be a justification for acting unaccountably. I believe my questions about your exercise of your authority have been completely civil. I believe that if you agree that administrators should exercise the authority the community entrust to them openly and accountably you should have a good reason for not trying to answer the concerns I have raised. Since the deletion log shows you returned to the wikipedia today I am mystified why you chose to perform deletions, rather than addressing the concerns I first raised six months ago. He was a most talented and well respected man in the theatre world, his body of work is archived in the library of Princeton University, and he is best known for his musical comedy, "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" which is the most produced play in the world each year, according to Tams Widmark. We would like to know what reasons you had for eliminating this biography from Wikipedia, as it is performed in community theatre and schools across this country and others and is only fitting that he be represented here. What did you disagree with perhaps? Were there errors in his biography? People from all over the world came to his memorial service, and respected and well-known actors, singers and musicians performed in honor of him. He was significant enough to have received a full-page obituary in the New York Times, and yet Wikipedia does not find him worthy of mention in their esteemed database? We find this disconcerting. Please correspond with us on your reasoning and perhaps we can come to some understanding and resolve this matter so that he can be returned to his rightful place. I look forward to hearing from you on this matter. Is there any way which your plug in can compare categories through AWB, finding ones which are in both the provincial Saskatchewan and the workgroup communities and add them to a rating project for Wikipedia:WikiProject Saskatchewan Communities & Neighbourhoods/Assesment? Kind Regards SriMesh | talk 03:14, 16 July 2008 (UTC) unilateral deletions...I see you deleted Birdiesync. The cached version doesn't indicate that the article had been {{prod}}ded or had a speedy deletion tag applied to it. I'd like to ask you to clarify whether you unilaterally deleted this article, or whether a second set of eyes had looked at it, and applied a deletion tag, and you merely completed the deletion. One of the side-effects of your earlier unilateral stealth deletions last fall drew to my attention is a weakness in the way the wikipedia's deletion log is updated. When an administrator, like you, makes a unilateral stealth deletion, and records that deletion in the deletion log with a WP:CSD tag, it spoofs the record to look like the deletion was the completion of speedy deletion, where two sets of eyes looked at the deletion. I guess it must be clear to you that I strongly disagree with administrators like you using their power to unilaterally delete articles unless that deletion is required to address an actual emergency. Without regard to whether this concern of mine is misplaced or meaningful I strongly urge you to consider a way to record these deletions in a way that makes clear no one else looked at the deletion, that you weren't completing a speedy deletion. I am going to remind you that the deletion policies and guidelines recommend informing the person who started an article, and its major contributors, when you place a deletion tag. I am going to remind you that when administrators unilaterally delete an article the article creator will not learn that their work was deleted. I found it extremely unpleasant to learn you deleted eight articles I started, without givingt me any notice, recording those deletions in the deletion log as if you were merely concluding a speedy deletion initiated by someone else. Without regard to your opinion with my concern that administrators should reserve unilateral deletion for genuine emergencies I ask you to consider advising the article creator. I used the term stealth deletions -- because the article creators don't learn about the deletion, and the deletion log implies the deletion was a mundane conclusion of a WP:CSD. If administrators who perform unilateral deletions inform the article creator those deletions are not stealth deletions. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid. We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded. You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media). I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself. If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Otto4711 (talk) 18:04, 26 February 2009 (UTC) Not Groucho - Not Even an Incredible SimulationHi - I think we've corresponded before. Waayy back when, you sent an invitation for me to join the Beatles WikiProject. This I chose to decline. If I never formally explained why... the reasons for this were 1)my time is limited, 2)my range of interests is not, and 3)joining would mean having to listen to the half-baked and/or uninformed opinions and attitudes of a few nonetheless rabid Beatles fans, and appear by proximity to agree with or support said opinions. The third point especially I couldn't go along with. I don't think I need to tell you how the last few years have played out, between the 't vs. T' debacle, the name-order debacle, and the sheer 'tude that comes with "true believers". If I had joined, any of those matters may have persuaded me to quit the project... and the same goes with recent attitudes I've seen from some members, and at least a couple unsigned editors. Nobody needs to tell me some of the topics I've started aren't main-sequence, or high-profile, and my talk page isn't exactly scattered with Barnstars or GA plaques. It'd be nice to have a few, but it's also nice to have full paychecks; most of my writing time lately comes from days without work. I notice gaps, and try to fill them, or tighten the space in between. My motivation for writing on Wikipedia is to do something extra with my education and training, and keep my writing muscles toned. (And the chance to get tapped, for a larger and hopefully paying project.) Other people's motivations... are their own. I review articles that I've contributed to from time to time, and what I tend to notice is that later editors try to cram unessential facts into them, in the name of "contributing substantially", and seem to think that a citation (particularly of a recent book) makes an unimportant item an important one. This goes against the spirit of good writing (and from what I recall, few of these people have written professionally, or gone to school for it) and doesn't make a positive contribution. I find it odd that I get attacked for commenting on or changing articles, that I either started personally, or bumped up from stub-class to higher, and I have to wonder about the commentors, if they didn't check histories and figure out who has contributed before them, before they decided to comment (much less attack), particularly when it becomes personal. I go after poor content, and don't generally name names. In return I get personal invective, with my nick (with speculations and more comments) all over it. I don't mind if prose I've done here gets rewritten or added to. It irks me, though, when it's simply replaced with a restatement that adds nothing but needless words, and phrasing either cloned from source materials, or not as strong as what it's expected to replace. I'm also not impressed by GA status, if it's not obtained by checking the quality of the writing, at least as much as the use of refs and footnotes. I prefer footnotes, references, lists, bells and whistles, notes only dogs can hear, and a 41-piece orchestra when such things are available. The next-best thing is a mention in the text flow ("-- told WTF?! magazine, which a month later was seized by the Hell's Grannies"). The absence of them, though, is not a prompt for me to go on the attack, or brag about my own use of them, or start talking smack to others who made more frequent contributions before refs became such an "issue". I'll say it again: I have read the books, played if not owned the albums, seen the videos and movies, etc., etc. that I tend to write about or comment on. I don't make stuff up out of suppositions or whole cloth. If the books, etc., were still on my house shelves, I'd be more than happy to go through and cite every last freaking foot, right down to the one in George's sandal with the stashed cash, that I may write about or try to summarize. Most of them are put away, to make room for other and later things I've studied, or are more essential to my present life. In years past, I had much more time to read and write, and bully for anyone who has such time now. I don't, however, think this makes them automatically more expert, or more dedicated, more talented, or more worthy of kudos (which I notice people who concern themselves with exchange mostly to each other) than someone with more experience or perspective. Nor does it give them the right to talk smack. This I knew going in. I wish others did also. I have always respected your work and your contributions here, even when I've disagreed with some of the results. I hope you never took it personally that I didn't join the project. I knew from experience what I was likely to find among the membership... and sad to say, it wasn't proven wrong. The more outspoken and "active" of the members I deal with haven't impressed me. Neither has the 'tude I've seen displayed, and I don't appreciate it from them. Wouldn't mind if you passed that along, in a general way. (As in, names not named.) I don't blame you for them. But I wanted to get my two cents out, if I hadn't in one burst in the past. Thanks, and good luck. Not knowing the proper way of adding information, we 'started over' and you even linked to one of my documents in the Beatles section. It has since been removed, and so has my other account, only for the grounds of the name itself, which was allegedly a conflict of interest. That said, I restarted my account (with permission) and a new, approved name. For the past 2 months, have been contributing how you taught me, and working the information into the article with verifiable sources. However, the documents/information I work in are rarely seen declassified government documents. A google on my name John Greenewald will show you my history, along with my 'expertise' (although I hate that word) on the topics. I now am in trouble for posting cited sources, which happen to come from similar domains (theblackvault.com). My expertise, background and contributions for almost a decade and a half to the internet, is running the largest online free repository for declassified documents in the world. I do not charge for the information, and am not trying to make money or spam. But, this is the ONLY location for documents to be sourced. So, if I don't source the material I add... it's deleted. If I source it, I am in trouble. I am very interested in your help, as I have always appreciated the help and advice you gave me a couple years ago. Stop labling me as a wrong-doer on a past account when I didn't know at the time. AND, those edits were years ago. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. A tag has been placed on Talk:Stephanie S. Tolan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you. Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you. I addition to the "biographies of living persons" and WikiProject Biography banners, there was a banner for a "Sexuality portal" for "sex workers". Nothing in this poorly written article suggests that it was at all appropriate, so I deleted it. Initially, the banner was present in all the stages of editing from your first entry one on "18:11, 13 August 2006 Kingbotk (talk | contribs) . . (45 bytes) (+45) . . (Tag with {{..WPBiography..}} for WP1.0 assessments/Living persons bio)". Now, since I deleted the banner, it only appears in the history under a 2010 edit entry.
I find this quite confusing. If you could explain this event to me, I would appreciate it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Jaid_Barrymore#Inappropriate_portal_banner_removed Thank you, Wordreader (talk) 03:11, 10 March 2013 (UTC) Article notability notificationHello. A tag has been placed on Talk:Ernie Manouse requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a specific animal, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I see that you created Apple_Corps_v_Apple_Computer#1986.E2.80.931989 by copying from Notable_litigation_of_Apple_Computer#Apple_Corps. However, your version has some content which I can't find in the original; it would seem that you originated it. Your version said this: "The result effectively terminated any further development of the highly profitable Apple II line, any foray Apple was making into the multimedia field in parallel of the Amiga at the time, and any future advanced built-in musical hardware into the Macintosh line." As a former kid with a //gs, I'm interested in that claim, for my own personal research, as well as substantiating and referencing it in the encyclopedia. Where'd that information come from?
