editHi MD - I'm very sorry to have disappointed your expectation in me, but it had become impossible for me to compromise my principles. I don't covet adminship at all, so it wasn't a difficult decision - I simply cannot accept misrepresentation and nonsense. However, I cannot tell you how greatly joyous I feel at the enthusiastic, wonderful support you expressed for me. I don't know how hard it will be to understand that your supports means extremely a lot to me. I thank you from my heart, and please let me know if I can ever be assistance or help in anything.
A belated thank you
editA belated thank you for your wishes. Well, I'm feeling very ill now and suffering from a bad cough and sore throat with fever the past two days. --Terence Ong 11:12, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

editDear Mailer diablo/Archive N — Thank you for your support on my recent RfA. It succeeded with a final tally of 72/2/0 and I am now an administrator. I'll be taking things slowly at first and getting used to the new tools, but please let me know if there's any adminnery I can help you with in the future. —Whouk (talk) 03:39, 1 December 2024 (UTC)Thanks
editHi Mailer diablo, thanks for supporting my request for adminship! Unfortunately, it ended with a final tally of 45/15/2, no consensus. I may have another go in the near future, once the school year is over. Thanks again! -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 22:23, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

deletion of The Prophet (book)
editHi Diablo, I'm not sure this is the right place to ask, but anyway: I noticed that the article named The Prophet (book) was deleted by you. I couldn't find any discussion on why it was deleted. It seems a very popular book by a well respected author. The google cache of the article is a completely reasonable stub. What happened? Why was it deleted? In fact, the deletion log links to a discussion for the deletion of the article on the spoof mentioned in the google cache. Maybe you deleted the wrong article by mistake? I'm just confused. Thanks.--345Kai 17:26, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Here is the google cache FYI:
The Prophet (book) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search
The Prophet is a book of 26 poetic essays written in 1923 by the Lebanese-American artist, philosopher and writer, Khalil Gibran.
In the book, a prophet who has lived in the foreign city of Orphalese for 12 years is about to board a ship which will carry him home. He is stopped by a group of people, with whom he discuss many issues of life and the human condition. One of Gibran's best known works, he followed it with Garden of Prophet, and was due to produce a third part when he died.
The book's popularity among adherents of 1960s counter culture inspired a parody, The Profit by Kehlog Albran, which furnished a number of quotations for the Unix fortune program.
The book was featured in the 2005 film Walk the Line. This section is a stub. You can help by adding to it. [edit]

Zen guitar page
editHi--Just trying to sort out the submission from 13 May on "Zen Guitar". It was noted for possible copyright infringement. I've followed all the instructions to clarify and would like to find out if there's anything more needed. Here's what I've done:
-- posted an explanation on the "Zen Guitar" Talk Page. -- editted the original material (http://www.heartwoodmusic.com/zenguitar.htm) to give permission for use by Wikipedia under GFDL.
The material on the page cited in the submission (http://www.urbandharma.org/udharma8/zguitar.html) was copied from an article I wrote for my website (http://www.heartwoodmusic.com/zenguitar.htm). I included the Urban Dharma link rather than my own to help substantiate broader interest in the topic.
Thanks for all you do.
With kind regards,

Comments on my RfA
editHi MD; thanks for taking time to comment on My RfA! I've answered you on that page. dewet|✉ 12:56, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hi again. You said you'd come back to me (I would like the feedback!) about my comments there. Also, I see you're now implementing your own 1FA criterion. I'd like to offer my contributions to South Africa, especially around March 2005, when it was being considered (again). I notice I'm also in the top contributors list for the article, although a lot of it seems to be RC patrolling recently. Thanks again for the time, dewet|✉ 09:54, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

editRequest for Adminship
Thank you for supporting/objecting/tropicanising me in my request for Adminship. Although I wasn't promoted to admin status, with a final vote count of 14/27/12, I am very happy with the response I received from my fellow Wikipedians. I was pleasantly suprised at the support, and was touched by it. I will also work harder on preventing disputes and boosting my edit count (which is on the up), so thank you to all your objectors. Hopefully I will re-apply soon and try again for the mop. Thanks again, Highway Rainbow SneakersClosing tfds

editSay, I feel like using one for my userpage, with sheer attribution of course, but noderivs makes it hard to upload, other than fair use (which then some people delete them for userpages anyway) ... so I was wondering if you could somehow let this go for the purposes of Wikipedia. - Hey, thanks for relicensing the Love by the Bridge image, but my intent was more for the "why are reading the blogs of 17-year-olds" [1], because I had a run-in with the ISD too. ;-)
- And, Gssq you are famous enough to be mentioned everywhere! Take heart! Also, we can never have too many SGpedians. If you can plug our noticeboard while you're at it...;-) Elle vécut heureuse à jamais (Be eudaimonic!)
- What other 17 year olds have had run ins with the ISD?! And no, I don't know him in real life. gssq 23:01, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
- Meh, I only turned 16 last year. I don't think Gayle really had any run-ins with the ISD, however. Also, why don't you list yourself on the SGpedians' noticeboard? ;-) Elle vécut heureuse à jamais (Be eudaimonic!) 04:14, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
Hey Mailer, I was wondering if you had a specific image/person in mind when you drew the TCHS guy in the bridge pic. Cos, um, it kinda looks like me now that I went back and stared at it for a minute. Similar hair style, body shape, and just as much leg hair (or more). - Hmm, what about the link (about i-do-not-speak)? I couldn't find anything peculiar...and the last link for the "ayam brand continued" I can't seem to access. And since when was the MRT "proletarian transport"? ;-) Elle vécut heureuse à jamais (Be eudaimonic!) 04:14, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- SBS may be more proletarian but MRT is too. Even taxi is quite proletarian in SG lah. Inner Party pig dogs all have Benz 200 + a fleet of 8 cars leh. -- Миборовский U|T|C|M|E|Chugoku Banzai! 06:33, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- Proletarian transport isn't that demeaning - we can comfort ourselves with the fact that the party members are ruining the environment and have to pay high fuel costs. (ie. non-sustainable transport) ;-) Elle vécut heureuse à jamais (Be eudaimonic!) 13:11, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
Userboxes: A New Proposal
editHey, I've noticed that you've been active on the Userbox deletion page, either strongly FOR or AGAINST the use of the new T2 for deleting userboxes. I have noticed that most of the community is strong in their opinions on this issue; for that reason, I created my own proposal which attempts to create a middle ground for the two groups, and finally get this debate settled once and for all. I welcome your input into the proposal, as well as your (non-binding) vote on the straw poll. Thanks! // The True Sora 01:31, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

1FA
editHi Mailer D. I noticed your new WP:1FA criterion. At first, I came over here to question its wisdom, but as I've thought about it more, I've decided that I really like this idea. One thing that I like about this is that there is a lazy man's option: go over to the FA-area, pick what you think is closest to the mark, and pitch in to get it over that last hump. But even that exercise would be a good education for an editor-to-be. I may eventually begin to use it myself. (I say eventually because I haven't met this criterion myself and I'm in the middle of my own RFA right now: I don't think it's right to expect others to do something for the adminship that I've not done. Once I do this myself--perhaps even via my lazy-man's option--I'll try my own version, which may be to declare neutrality rather than opposition.) Bucketsofg✐ 18:47, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

editJust realized how completely unsuitable I am for adminship, let alone bureaucratship and checkuser, based on my complete and total failure to bring any article to featured status. Wow, I'm not qualified either. — May. 22, '06 [06:01] <freak|talk>
A slight
ironycoincidence here: I became eligible yesterday, the very same day you took this live (see: The KLF). I guess, however, that the vast majority of our current admins - including some very good ones - would not qualify. There's less than 1000 Featured Articles still, did you know that?! With one million users, we need admins. --kingboyk 12:39, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- I'm another with substantial DYK? input but no FA :( Maybe the criteria should be more general, like "has made a substantial contribution to featured content", which could include DYKs?. I woulda been gutted not to get "support, of course" the other week for not having an FA under my belt. Deizio talk 12:46, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- A user can support or oppose as they like but man... I have 15 DYKs! wouldn't that count? Or is the DYK/FA exchange ratio like a zillion to one or something? We need metapedians too. ++Lar: t/c 14:38, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

editWikipedia is not internet centric
editYou deleted an article after is was voted for dletion and the result was to delete it, I check the votes and user clamed it to be original research becuase they Googled it and couldn't find any information (on the "web"). The fact is that they are internet centric, and just becuase wikipedia is a website does not mean there is any inherent reason why it should be internet centric (this isn't exactly NPOV, ask a University professor if you don't beleive me). So my adive to *all* wikipedians when checking for verifiable scources is not just internet. Good wikipedians need to fid it offline (books, etc) if they can't find it online. It appears that the AfD was closed with delete yet the article is still up. Was it recreated? IrishGuy 22:46, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
You had closed this AfD. The article is up for a 3rd nomination. However, the 2nd nomination was overlooked; I've moved Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Scholars for 9/11 Truth (2nd nomination) to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Scholars for 9/11 Truth (3rd nomination) and fixed the redirects that I could fix. Should Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Scholars for 9/11 Truth (second nomination) be moved to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Scholars for 9/11 Truth (2nd nomination)? (It seems like words like "second" throw off some sort of automatic counting.) Would the redirect at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Scholars for 9/11 Truth (2nd nomination) to the 3rd nomination have to be deleted first? Шизомби 03:09, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Opposing RFA's per 1FA
editI find this voting system to be bad (No offense). But there probably a hundered admins or more that haven't taken an article up to featured article status. Passing adminship rate would drop tremendously over the next few months. It's one thing to vote agianst someone because of guidelines or policies that they have not lived up to like WP:CIVIL or WP:NPA, but an essay? Adminship should be no big deal. Do you know how hard it is to take an article up to featured article status? Personally, I don't think I'll ever get an article up to that high of an standard, but even if I didn't would that make me less of a person not being able to handle adminship? No, not at all. I mean, not right now I'm not up to it, but in the future maybe. I know there's more to Wikipedia than vandal fighting like article editing but every little article contribution helps and I don't think editors should have to strain themselves to write a full-blown article when there's other things to be done. Take what I said into consideration... -- DGX 20:10, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
- Alright, I respect your opinion too. We should be getting well-rounded Wikipedians, but not everyone can be well-rounded in that kind on sense. IMO, if editors make valid, strong contributions (not a FA, but good edits in particular), they should be given a pass through your "rule" so to speak. Your last comment in particular stuck to me, "We have 900 sysops, we can afford to be picky", I say we shouldn't start being more picky. If all 900 sysops were put back through RFA, I'd say less than the majority, but a great number would not pass through you're 1FA rule. But this is your decision to base editors on and I can't tell you to do anything, so it's really a matter of what you feel. Cheers! DGX 00:44, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

editFirst let me express my irritation that people seem to be failing to use the talk page as a first resort rather than a last. This is twice I've come and said "Did you know they were talking about you at..." So, did you know that this close was at DRV?
For my money, if I was forced to choose a "go/no go" on this close, I'd say you were within rights to close the way you did. Thankfully, we've got more options than that. There's a strong whiff of "Endorse closure but I'd have voted delete" at the DRV discussion. I've suggested there that if this was just unclosed (as opposed to relisted) than some clearer consensus might form. I did this myself a couple of weeks ago, and something I'd deleted went to a clear keep.
Again if you don't think it's appropiate to re-open, I'll endorse the close (like almost everyone has) so it's no drama regardless. I just think that talking about this stuff is better than pseudo-voting on subpages in purple and such.
brenneman {L} 14:45, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
(And nice shiny new cat, by the way!)
- Thanks for the response, and just to be clear I also think that there was no consensus to delete when the "time was up." My instinct here is that in a few weeks, however, the editor who took it to DRv will simply re-nominate. Then we get both a muddied water and the wishes of the first crew might get ingored. But I'm repeating myself, aren't I? I'm just a fan on the "re-open" and we tend not to do it too often. Having just looked over my talk page archives thought I see I've asked you to do it before! Sorry to be a pest, and thanks again for the reply. - brenneman {L} 15:13, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
