Using OTRS for image permissions
editMailer diablo, I just received e-mail permission from the Laogai Research Foundation to use some images in the article Re-education through labor, and I've sometimes seen images with templates on them saying that the image permission is stored through OTRS. Do you know how I can go about getting this e-mail of mine through OTRS so I can upload the images? I've looked around for instructions, but the whole thing seems a bit daunting to me. Thanks for your help, and sorry for bothering you with this. —Politizer talk/contribs 22:32, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks! The e-mail I got doesn't specify a license, so I've written back and am waiting for explicity CC 3.0 permission. Once that is done, I'll upload the image and forward the correspondence to the permissions people. Thanks for your help, —Politizer talk/contribs 18:28, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Matrix Partners
editI am working on creating articles on notable private equity firms as part of the Private Equity Task Force. I noticed you deleted an article started for Matrix Partners in May 2007. Although the article may have failed to express it, this is a notable firm. I am not sure what condition the article was in when it was deleted. It would be great if you could restore the text as a subpage in my user space User:Urbanrenewal/Matrix Partners and I will get it in shape. |► ϋrbanяenewaℓ • TALK ◄| 16:50, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

editHi, I know it's been awhile, but you were the last one who delete the article. I am about to create a new one, but I wasnt sure why the article was deleted in the first place. If you can give me some information, that'd be great. I am sorta new in wikipedia so I really dont know where to get this information

Mutual peer review offer
editHello, Mailer diablo! Although I have always been pessimistic about the chances of Odex's actions against file-sharing attaining FA status, the article is a fascinating read and I applaud your perseverance. Shall I strike a mutual peer review deal with you? Under this deal, I will do a thorough peer review of Odex's actions against file-sharing for you, while you will help me by peer reviewing two of the following three articles:
- I Not Stupid Too - currently on peer review and will go on GAN in a week
- Yip Pin Xiu - will file a peer review on 1 January 2009 after tying up some loose ends
- Murder of Huang Na - research in progress, will start writing soon and file peer review in late January
(I asked for two reviews because Odex's actions against file-sharing is currently 42 kB long, but my articles are very short - I Not Stupid Too is at about 14.5 kB, Yip Pin Xiu is at about 8 kB and Murder of Huang Na will be around 10 kB long. Reviewing Odex's actions against file-sharing may take over an hour; each of my articles would take under half an hour to review.)
Do you agree to this deal? Then please let me know which two articles you choose to review. Feel free to review I Not Stupid Too straightaway; I will inform you when I file peer reviews for the other articles.

I assume (from the AfD), that this was probably correctly deleted as a fancruft article about the in-universe comic-book. However, there was also a spin-off, animated television series of the same name, and I wondered if it would be possible to have the old version restored to my userspace - at User:Rambo's Revenge/Atomic County2 so I can check that I wouldn't be recreating deleted material before (possible) requesting that the page is unsalted. Many thanks, Rambo's Revenge (talk) 19:07, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Picture?
editNot to question every single picture that makes it into the Gaza conflict article, but I am trying to come up with an explanation as to how a 16-year-old living in Saudi Arabia made his way into Gaza to take that picture. This would have required him using the Rafah crossing in Egypt, which has been effectively closed for many months. -- tariqabjotu 04:04, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- Despite my suspicions, I was unable to locate the photo prior to posting my comment. -- tariqabjotu 04:16, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. By the way, were you talking about the Flickr images by Amir Farshad Ebrahimi under Category:2008–2009 Israel–Gaza conflict? If so, those are all copyright violations as well. -- tariqabjotu 06:09, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
Bliss point
editAlmost two years ago you were the admin who closed the deletion discussion for the bliss point article. I am wondering if you can userfy it to my user space so I can try working on it and see if I can't make it into a notable article. I want to see if there was any usable content, as it would be nice not to have to start from scratch. Rest assured the article will be referenced and well put together if and when it is ready for prime time; if not, at least I tried. Thank you :) -FrankTobia (talk) 00:54, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Hey, I know it was a long time ago, but I was wondering if you could give me the content of Vision Forum? That is, if there was any good content in it. If so, please paste it here. If not, that is fine, I will write from scratch. Thanks. TheAE talk/sign 06:24, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
- No, I'd prefer to have it in my userspace, so I don't have to worry about it being deleted while I work on it. (It may take several days to do so with good content). Is that alright? TheAE talk/sign 19:39, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
- Woah, I was a bit careless. There is currently an article on it, Vision Forum Ministries. ;) I missed that. But thank you for the content, I did merge some of it. I may also be using some things from the history to add to the new article. But, I can't do it now, my computer won't let me at the moment. Vision Forum now redirects to Vision Forum Ministries. Thank you. :) TheAE talk/sign 21:39, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
Deletion of The_Mafia_Network
editMailer_diablo,
I fully understand why the article on The_Mafia_Network was deleted a few years back, even without seeing it myself. Recently I've been looking for it, as I actually expected an article on it, to find all the reasons behind it.
Although I do understand it, I would like to see an article on this subject on the English wikipedia. I know creating such article myself would result in (probably instant) deletion of it, as it'd be recreation of a deleted article, and I have a Conflict Of Interest. Because of that Conflict Of Interest, I am also aware that I can't ask others to write it. Besides all that, it is very hard to find external references, except for some blog posts I've posted myself since October 2008, some generated stats, or things like that. In the deletion log I noticed someone had been looking through these MMORPG "top 2000" lists, concluding we weren't on it. The person who wrote that was correct, we've only participated in those lists back in 2005 (and I think we made 1st position on one of them too). The 25,000 players number was a genuine one, we're at about 9,000 accounts since October 15th, where about 400-800 are active players online daily.
So, my question: What should I do? Leave it and give up? Write a short article and let others go on with it? Ask players to write it (and encourage them to read the rules)?
TheMafiaNetwork is a game a guy from Canada launched in 2004 (August 3rd if I'm correct). It's been online ever since, and has had many (addicted) players, who formed quite a community. It has a nice history, that (in my opinion) should be written on a wikipedia page for reference and instruction. I'm administrator on the game, and have been since the start.
A few links to verify the age, traffic, daily unique visitors (not sure how that's calculated!): themafianetwork staff blog whois information domain information
Thanks for reading, I look forward to your reply.

Votes on proposed decision by arbitrator who resigned during the case
editHi, I noticed that you've updated the proposed decision page of the Fringe science arbitration to adjust for the departure of FT2. What do you think should be done about his votes in this case? He has voted on all proposed principles except 12.1. --TS 17:00, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
You deleted this list as a result of an AfD discussion. There are many lists of ship launches which haven't been AfD'd (see Category:Lists of ship launches). A comment was made in the discussion that this matter should be referred to WP:SHIPS. A search of WT:SHIPS Archive 3 (covering the period when AfD was current) fails to show any such referral. Would you be willing to restore the article, as I have another ship to add to the list. I would have no objection to the restored article being relisted at AfD to establish consensus if that is the correct proceedure in these cases. Mjroots (talk) 10:25, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, I've raised it at WT:SHIPS. Mjroots (talk) 17:10, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- Take a look here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Ships#List_of_ship_launches_in_1946. Would you mind restoring the article, grant me leave to restore, or do I need to take this through DRV? -MBK004 19:28, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Deletion
editHi Diablo, I made a post on your main page regarding the deletion of Scholar360. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to contact you here or on the main page. I'll check both places for a response. This is what I wrote on the main page:
Hello, we tried to post our page here in the past and noticed that you deleted it. I understand your concerns, but would appreciate it if you applied your standards evenly across the board. There are several commercial LMS pages in wikipedia (just see the learning management system page), with very little significance, outside references etc. If you do not delete these pages, then I would like you to allow us to add our page. If you do delete these pages, then I'll feel you are being fair. Please advise. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.241.7.66 (talk) 19:51, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Also, I'll be happy to add external references and a dialog as to why this product is indeed significant. Briefly, it was the first product to take a relational approach to elearning -- blending social network and LMS technology. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.241.7.66 (talk) 19:54, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- Reply : If you can rewrite the article substantially addressing the concerns (mainly, the text sounds like an advertisement) and assert its notability with the use of reliable secondary sources, the rewritten article has much more chance of being likely to stay. - Mailer Diablo 01:41, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Don't you hate it when people only come around when they want something?
editHello MD;
I was scrolling around looking for someone whose opinion I respected to review some actions of mine, and saw you name. I opened a thread on ANI asking for this same things, but I'm feeling pretty bruised by the results, which included suggesting that I be blocked for "a day or two."
To my mind, only the most careless of five-second reviews of the interactions took place. But, of course I could be wrong about that which would mean I was wrong about how I edited. I'd let it go, but my current fear is that I'm out of touch with what's considered appropiate behaviour, and that I'll thusly make a really bad call as an admin.
Because, had I been someone else and stumbled into the Tori Amos article I'd have blocked Phil with "three reverts isn't an entitlement, much less twelve." I might have given myself a mild warning about poking a hornet's nest, but I don't think "normal" editors should be penalised when trying to deal (totally within policy) with someone obstreperous. Ahhh, but I'm advocating my own position now, aren't I?
Anyway, if you're too busy (or think it's daft) I'll understand.
As always, respect, brenneman 05:57, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
