Templates

Any page with the template. Edit this page. At the bottom, underneath the edit box is a list of templates used. Click on River Medway. Edit this page- and the code appears. I have taken out the duplicate River Beult- but left a mistake for you to practise on. (River Len, River Loose-- in wrong order)! To create a new banner. Copy the text from here. On a page edit- type {{ New banner name}} . Show preview. Click on the redlink. A blank edit page appears. Paste in text, and customise. The Medway template was cloned from the River Stour template, which I found when adding infoboxes to all Kent rivers that were missing them. I am unsure about the background colour used as it is not consistent with {{navbox }} used in some Tonbridge and Malling articles. I may try to clean that up soon!.

Current events

I noticed that you edited Portal:Current events/United Kingdom and I was wondering as I am the starter and at the moment really the only contributor whether you would consider keeping up to date for next week as I am going to be away from a computer and I would like it to be kept up to date, I will quite understand if you do not want to, but just once or twice adding a few things from mon-fri would be greatly appreciated. Desert Tactical Arms Stealth Recon Scout

The Desert Tactical Arms Stealth Recon Scout is not spam. It is just a firearm related article detailing a newly announced sniper rifle. There are many other articles like it. As it is newly announced, there is very little information about it, thus I have to quote the manufacturer's website. Thank you for your time, Hayden120 (talk) 13:28, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

By the way, can you please explain to me what separates my article (why you thought it should have been speedily deleted) to say, an article such as Remington 700? First-party manufacturer references are obviously the most accurate for the statistics anyway. Hayden120 (talk) 13:48, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

EnviroCar

Hello and good day.

I was curious about which portion of the EnviroCar article would be considered advertising? I have reread it and all the information is verifiable and from an objective P.O.V. In addition, all the information has been cited from the actual news-sources that the information appeared in. --ReggieGorilla (talk) 21:07, 11 February 2008 (UTC) Thank you for your time.

DYK & lists

I saw the comment from User:House of Scandal that he didn't like lists on the DYK talk page. I have self-nom'd a list article. I did check the rules, and saw nothing there that disbarred lists from appearing on DYK. Are lists not eligible, or was it for some other problem with the article that it failed? - List of Tree Cities in Ohio Mjroots (talk) 07:09, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Lists are eligible but only the general prose section is considered to be part of the length criteria. So something like australian Olympic medalists in swimming pass because the prose section is long enough. Teh tabulated section isn't counted. Blnguyen (vote in the photo straw poll) 07:12, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
I didn't see anything in the rules that stated that. Maybe this needs to be made clear? Mjroots (talk) 14:37, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

I have needed a flow chart for a long time. I thought you might like to see what I have achieved so far Cotton processing flowchart. Dutch question for you…

I saw your Dutch language box and I'm hoping that you might be able to glean something from a small scan of a ship-related document in Dutch. Most of the poster seems to relate to fares and baggage rules, but it looks like the very top section might detail arrival & departure times for ships of the Batavier Line in Rotterdam and London. Do you think you could take a look and see if that's correct, or if you can even read it? I'm working on Batavier Line, and three of their ships—Batavier II, Batavier III, and Batavier V—and some indication of the length of the journey would be very helpful. Many thanks in advance. — Bellhalla (talk) 15:41, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Well thanks for trying, anyway. One question though: what do the English "a.m." and "p.m." translate to in Dutch? — Bellhalla (talk) 16:07, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

So, we meet again mjrooots...

It is amazing how often I go subbing an article to find you're on it too (it was the Capsian Airlines crash this time).

I know you, like I, ten to browse around a lot and do lots of different subjects, I am not suspecting any foul play! I just wondered if you would like a 1p spread bet on when the first accusation of sockpuppetry will happen...

Best wishes and keep up all the good work. BTW I never got any response about West Wratting windmill, I know you were not directly interested in the mills stuff but you had a hand in it somewhere along the line? SimonTrew (talk) 19:03, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Yeah no ships, I was strictly ground-to-air missiles, so mostly army. Though I did do one ship-to-ship missile, well a 76mm course corrected shell... and I can tell you all the areas on the Shipping Forecast, and even know where most of them are and what it means. Hmmm. SimonTrew (talk) 20:49, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
With the sockpuppetry, of course you have multiple bets here. Either I am accused of being your sockpuppet, you mine, or both a third party. Of course you or I could be accused independently of being the sock of a third, but that would be out of the range of the perm, I think.
For a while I did think that perhaps you tracked me, not from any malice on your part but because things that interest me might interest you, as you seem equally omnivorous (but I don't see you translating much Latin these days...). Your edits are always good and helpful, and I shan't forget how we collaborated on Newmarket and Chesterford Railway which, while simple, still took some working out and I learned a lot from doing it as I had done lots of minor subbing but there were lots of new things to learn too. I have gone on to do other more complicated things, if not in articles themselves, at least in the chat. I am bracing myself to write my first template.
You are truly a credit to Wikipedia, I take my hat off to you.
Best wishes SimonTrew (talk) 23:07, 19 July 2009 (UTC)=

Lists of listed buildings

Hi, there's been more discussion at WT:HSITES about naming lists of listed buildings. So far you're the only one to have strongly objected so I'd appreciate any further comments from you. The suggestion would only apply to lists of listed buildings (so not lists of mills as they're not all listed) because of the repetition of "list" that is currently involved in the naming convention. Nev1 (talk) 15:35, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Rijksmonumenten

Thanks for note to my Talk page, but indeed I already understood all those selected Rijksmonumenten were in the category set up for it. But there remains no source in their articles, or anywhere else as far as i know, that establishes any or all of them are in fact Rijksmonuments. This situation is far different from what i am familiar with in U.S. NRHP listings, where it is easy to check at government set or several private mirror sites which places are actually NRHP-listed. I notice in several of your mill articles that you do seem to have precise information, including the Rijksmonument listing number, but I don't see a specific source. The Rijksmonument article DYK is going down the tubes for lack of any specific source. If you could provide specific sources for some mill articles, I would be very happy to cover just those ones and drop the existing selected ones, in order to save the DYK. doncram (talk)

PROD of Rijksmonument (Belgium)

Hi, there's a PROD for Rijksmonument (Belgium) with it being asserted that "Rijksmonument is a purely Dutch (The Netherlands) term, in Belgium monuments are simply called "monuments" (monumenten) or "protected heritage site" (beschermd erfgoed). The site linked to is from a community which is part Dutch, part Belgian, and the section linked describes the Dutch situation only." Does that seem right to you? It seems opposite what i/we were told before when developing what became Rijksmonument (Netherlands). And should "Beschermd erfgoed" be the article name for Belgian monuments, instead, or would we need a French term to be part of the article name, or should it be "Protected heritage site (Belgium)"? doncram (talk) 15:17, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

Rijksmonument template proposal

Hi Mjroots How do you think about a Rijksmonument template looking somewhat like this

Dutch Rijksmonument number :Monument Number [2]

.

To be placed somewhere at the bottom of the page The number can be added in the template format, and it will add the article to the rijksmonument category. I have not (yet) managed to include the number in the deeplink for the source Let me know if you like the idea, in which case I will set op the template in Wikispace. Arnoutf (talk) 11:59, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, just checked not to make it a unsupported solo action. I now created the template at template:Rijksmonument. I will start adding it to the bottom of monument articles. Improvements are welcome. Cheers. Arnoutf (talk) 17:16, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Editing scalabe vector graphics

If you're interested in editing .svgs then I'd advise downloading Inkscape. It's free and has no "free trial" crap. Editing the map of the UK and Ireland to change the colour of counties is quite a simple task. When you have the map open in Inkscape, left-click one of the counties then left-click one of the colours at the bottom of the screen to change it to that colour. You'll probably want to chage it to the same colour as one of the other counties. To do so, when the county is selected, press F7 then left-click the county which has the colour you want your selected county to be. Here's a link. Jolly Ω Janner 21:09, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Regarding Press TV

Hi Mjroots. I am an employee at Press TV & I am assigned the grand task of making sure the wikipedia page regarding our news agency stays accurate & has propaganda & slander removed.

I noticed that you have place a semi-lock on the page. Thank you for doing so because many people continually attack us through wikipedia.

If you may please direct me - I'd like to know how & what process to remove the majority of inaccurate & slanderous information. If you notice most of the text has relatively little to do with Press TV itself yet full of opinions, biases, and slander. These comments could be made regarding any news organization such as CNN or FOX News or Sky News.

If possible, could we keep the semi-protection lock on for a longer period of time while some of us work to create a more accurate and unbiased profile that is free of defamation. Thanks you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Presstvwiki (talkcontribs) 12:58, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

That's a great suggestion! Unfortunately I don't speak that language. I was hoping to get a better world view on the article - I even asked Victuallers to help me but he wasn't able to. New service for old maps

Hi, I've just noticed a new mapping facility for old maps. Try clicking a UK grid reference, or set of lat/long coordinates for a point within the UK; this gets you to the GeoHack page. On the right you should see the familiar "Great Britain" heading with boxes beneath. The new row is at the bottom of the uppermost box; it reads "SABRE Maps"; "Map"; "OS maps". In both of the latter a menu down the left-hand side gives a choice of series, scales and date periods. This should aid the search for those tricky short-lived sidings and airstrips. --Redrose64 (talk) 12:09, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, it eems to be most useful for mid 1920s-1930 maps. Mjroots (talk) 13:22, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

The Downward Spiral revert

Hey, I saw your note on the talk page about reverting The Downward Spiral (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) and was wondering if you'd be willing to go ahead with the revert. You've got my support on the matter, and I think Qwyrxian would probably be supportive as well although I do not speak for him. I don't trust my wiki-skills enough to do it myself. Thanks for the help with the article, I love NIN too much to see it like it is. LuftWaffle0 (talk) 14:50, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Hey, an anonymous IP with similar editing interests to our friend 1007D has reverted your revert at The Downward Spiral, and since there have been edits since his revert, I can't "undo" it. If you have a spare moment and could please help that would be great. I think another revert won't have to go as far back, as some editors have added in some good edits back to the article since your revert. I don't want to keep coming back here to chase you for help with this, so if you have any advice on what we can do from here that would be appreciated. Thanks! --LuftWaffle0 (talk) 05:59, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Update: I have copied the code from the edit previous to the anonymous revert and updated the article with that code. I didn't want to have to trample intermediate edits if I didn't have to but C'est la vie. LuftWaffle0 (talk) 06:05, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! Appreciate the help. --LuftWaffle0 (talk) 06:16, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Brighton Patriot

Hi – thanks for that link; looks quite handy. I have just checked my copy of the New Encyclopaedia of Brighton, and the Patriot is mentioned – albeit briefly: "Chartist paper, good for political events, agricultural developments etc.". Hassocks5489 (tickets please!) 22:04, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Word of Thanks

Re your edit summaries when reverting vandalism, please don't do it in all caps, it's the equivalent of shouting. RVV (or rvv) is adequate for an edit summary there. Not saying there's anything wrong with your editing, but just tone down the summaries a tad please. Mjroots (talk) 14:32, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip (as usual)! I was quite annoyed to rebuild the section. I even considered requesting to semi-protect the page but after reading the guidelines decided to wait. Hopefully that IP will just get tired. (Brunoptsem (talk) 16:14, 28 July 2011 (UTC))
If you think that a temporary semi-protection will help, then it can be arranged. Mjroots (talk) 19:02, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
Here I have to rely on your experience. The IP 189.122.146.171, apparently located in Rio made two bad attacks in the last three days. Just a few hours ago he started again but a trustworthy collaborator, HkCaGu, was quicker in stopping the action. The person is copying and pasting data from GRU and adding nonsence like LY flying GIG/JRS (Atarot has been closed for quite a while...). Plus the person is adding flights that need interline connection at GRU. I am inclined to ask semi-protection for a week because every attack, normaly done in the early hours, requires quite some work to undo. By the way, the article in Portuguese underwent also a similar attack. It is a mess now. Thanks for your usual help. BRGDS. (Brunoptsem (talk) 22:20, 28 July 2011 (UTC))
Can't help with the pt-wiki article, I'm afraid. There is an easy way to revert multiple edits back to a good version of an article, even if more than one editor has edited in the meantime. Do you have e-mail enabled? I won't put it on here per WP:BEANS, but am prepared to let you know how off-wiki. Heading for bed so will check for answer in the morning. Mjroots (talk) 22:24, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. Yes, my e-mail is enabled. Good night. (Brunoptsem (talk) 00:51, 29 July 2011 (UTC))
Thanks for all your help with the GIG issue! BRGDS, (Brunoptsem (talk) 17:07, 30 July 2011 (UTC))

EGovMonet Deletion

Dear Mjroots,

EGovMoNet was recently deleted from Wikipedia. I was still in the process of improving it when that happened and had not had enough time to recuperate the content for later reuse. So I asked Athaenara, who had deleted the article, to give me the opportunity to retrieve the latest version. Reading the logs, I am confused. Does this mean that you deleted the article after Athaenara had restored it? I still have not had the chance to retrieve the latest version before the article disappeared. Can you please help me?

Best regards, ChristopheS (talk) 10:07, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for restoring the article! ChristopheS (talk) 11:20, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Action of 25 January 2012

Hello! XavierGreen (the article's creator / the only editor who didn't want to change the title) has indicated on the talk page that he doesn't oppose a move to Rescue of Jessica Buchanan and Poul Hagen (the title that's received the most support so far). Given the now-unanimous agreement for a move, can we please unprotect the page and tentatively proceed (with the understanding that discussion can continue)? It isn't certain that we'll ultimately settle on that particular title, but it is clear that the current title is overwhelmingly opposed. —David Levy 17:48, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Proposal to implement TAFI that affects ITN

Discussion is ongoing about how to implement Today's articles for improvement on the Main Page. A proposal is being worked on with general community support, where TAFI is put it on the left hand side, below the DYK content. In order to balance the Main Page, part of this proposal involves increasing the ITN content by one item per day. Since you are an editor involved in the process, I would ask if you could comment on the proposal. --NickPenguin(contribs) 17:30, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Re: Date formats

Unfortunatelly I did it my way, and it will stay that way according to who ever added the template (in this case me): Template:Use dmy dates. I might be wrong, but oner of the admins here told me that if there is a template, do it that way, if there is non, feel free to edit it your way or add a template. Talk to @Ryan Vesey: and/or @Worm That Turned: for more in depth explanation. Plus, its not suppose to be a big deal and mdy dates are even better, because its much clearer on the tongue (since Wikipedia doesn't use of). O' and WP:TIES have nothing to do with our discussion. It talks about language styles, not dates, which I didn't violated.--Mishae (talk) 21:04, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

2015 Cajon Pass wildfire

Hello! Been a while since we "chatted". I was hoping you could take a peak at "my" semi-new article, 2015 Cajon Pass wildfire. While a significant fire in its own right, I believe what truly makes it notable are the local, state and federal efforts to limit unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) activity in the vicinity of wildfires that came about as a result of UAV activity after this fire, as you will see documented within. Anyway, I have no notability concerns here, just thought you may wish to contribute to the article. I always appreciate your collaboration! Thanks! Juneau Mike (talk) 16:59, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Not an error, Megawatt is MW, not Mw. Mjroots (talk) 15:30, 9 September 2017 (UTC)

I'm well aware that Mw isn't the abbreviation for megawatt. However, it is an abbreviation not used in everyday English, which would have caused many readers to stumble over it. I was also pointing out that the ITN item above it used "a magnitude 8.1 earthquake," a construction much more familiar to the general reader – and that inconsistent terminology was being used on the same page.
I suggest that your dismissive "not an error" ignored the issues. Sca (talk) 14:14, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
@Sca: It seemed to me that you had mistaken MW for Mw, which is why I said that it was not an error. Besides which, didn't they use the Richter scale back then? Mjroots (talk) 14:31, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
Perhaps they did; my experience dates from the '60s. But the main point was that (in my experience) Mw isn't common English usage. I've never encountered it in news coverage of earthquakes. Formerly news stories referred to "measuring X.X on the Richter scale," but now they mostly use the simpler "a magnitude X.X earthquake." (Perhaps Mw is more common in British English, but as noted it seems like scientific jargon to me.) Sca (talk) 15:18, 10 September 2017 (UTC)

busing vs. bussing

Yes, that's correct American English. The single-s spelling is used (I think) to distinguish the "transport by bus" usage from "bussing", which would be taken to mean kissing (I don't know how prevalent using "buss" to mean a kiss is in the UK, but in the American South it's still in quite regular usage, not in the sense of a really passionate deep kiss but more like a big sloppy kiss, the kind of kiss your parents would tell you to give your grandmother on the cheek when you were a child. I was going to

add a qualifying item have to jump off - will add later - cheers JarrahTree 09:00, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

I may come over at the project talk page blah we have heard all this before - it is the big problem for over a decade of editing there have been some really absurd re-inventing the wheel for the sake of it stuff - when its all been through before.

I have little faith in trying to protect readers from distress - just watching the news is more stressful than most of the most problematic wikipedia articles or items. So real life is really a lot more traumatic than most items inside the pedia. I strongly suggest if persons are upset by an image of something on a project item on a talk page, then they clearly need toughening up. The real world is a lot worse.

Having said all that - if there is something other than predictable trolls turning up at such discussions - or the mentioned editors who were pinged - with genuine cases of deep trauma from a very small image - and clear indication they are not set up to it in any way - then I would take notice, and suggest some negotation for ways of protecting them. But when it is the usual mob, I see no need to do anything. JarrahTree 12:30, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Death project

do you have the capacity to remove the skull and crossbone image from the death project talk page tag? Or know someone with the rights/skill/capacity to do so? it makes the project look so so tacky JarrahTree 07:46, 9 May 2018 (UTC)

@JarrahTree: I probably do have the capacity to do so. Whether or not I should is a different question (much the same as I can block Jimbo Wales, but whether or not I should...). As I understand it, there is a RFC on the abolition of portals. If the portals get abolished, the problem will disappear. Mjroots (talk) 07:51, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
(LOL) to your response. Shows what a bunch of idiots in a decreasing cohort - to the rfc to remove portals. (AWKS) to what the rump is doing to the world. I still think the skull and crossbones needs to go regardless. But hey - thanks for your response, thank heavens someone here still has a sense of irony and or humour (sic) JarrahTree 08:50, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
@JarrahTree: - Being an admin carries a certain amount of power. That power has to be balanced with an equal amount of responsibility. That an admin can do something does not mean that they should do it. If you really want rid of the skull and crossbones from the portal template, then open up a discussion at WT:DEATH and gain consensus for said removal. I can see that jumping in and removing it on one editor's request is likely to be highly controversial and it's not something I want to risk my administrative privileges for. Mjroots (talk) 08:56, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
I had put request first, then only after did I notice the blue block of things above - very very sincerest apology - must have seemed like a very stupid troll, dare I say it about myself - sorry JarrahTree 08:58, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
Nothing to apologise for. Didn't see you as a troll either. Mjroots (talk) 09:10, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
Kind of you to say so - everything about the death project tag suggests a complete blank tag with no image JarrahTree 09:13, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) @JarrahTree: The "death project talk page tag" is Template:WikiProject Death, and there has been discussion on the matter of its image at its talk page. See also its documentation regarding |image=no. Since it is a WikiProject banner, this means that it is not a portals issue - whatever the outcome of Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)/RfC: Ending the system of portals, that banner will retain the image. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:41, 9 May 2018 (UTC)
@Redrose64: I'm pretty sure JT is talking about the removal of the |PORTAL from that template. Mjroots (talk) 05:40, 10 May 2018 (UTC)
If you use |image=no the portal is suppressed, as are both images. Since that wasn't clear, I've amended the doc. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 09:38, 10 May 2018 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Sinn Féin

Hello! I humbly request indefinite semi-protected status for the Wikipage Sinn Féin, due to the controversy of the topic, we get a lot of IP's editing Sinn Féin and removing sourced content or changing the article for slander purposes, to straight vandalism due to the controversial nature of the page. This page has been worthy of protection for awhile now, however no admins really edit or check in on the page. You can view the history of the page and see! I am here to request "indefinite semi-protected" status for the page Sinn Féin, as upon lifting of the protection, I believe the same issue will arise again, if you can possibly do this, that would be amazing! B. M. L. Peters (talk) 14:45, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) @B. M. L. Peters: Have you tried filing a request at WP:RFPP? This is particularly important since the article falls within WP:TROUBLES#Standard discretionary sanctions, per the box headed "WARNING: ACTIVE ARBITRATION REMEDIES" at Talk:Sinn Féin. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 09:55, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
Redrose64, I looked at the article and came to the conclusion that there was not a problem so large that protection was necessary. Also, this post was a C&P of the exact same post (including timestamp) made on fellow admin El C's page two days ago. Looks like a case of admin shopping to me, as El C didn't protect the page. Yes, RFPP is available, but I don't think protection is warranted. Mjroots (talk) 10:04, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the response guys! I did not get a response from El C and it appeared he has not been online for a little but as I checked his history, so I brought it to the attention of another admin. I did not know that this is considered "admin shopping", and I won't do it again. Thanks for your responses though guys and taking a look at the issue! B. M. L. Peters (talk) 21:27, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
I watch the page, as I do most controversial Northern Ireland related pages as many people know that’s my main area of admin interest, and I’ve never seen a lot of disruption there that requires protection. I’m not shy to protect pages when they get hit with sectarian disruption or the like, but I’ve never really seen it there. And there are lots of people watching it so on the odd occasions it happens there’s plenty of eyes that deal with it before even I can get to it. Canterbury Tail talk 01:03, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Falklands War referencing

Following your post on the WikiProject Military history talk page about Falklands War, I have had a bash at getting rid of all the "citation needed" tags. There are still some unreferenced paragraphs and somebody who knows how needs to look at the messy citation style, which is beyond my understanding. Please cast an eye to see if I've messed up anywhere. Alansplodge (talk) 16:25, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

There does appear to be a slightly random collection of cite styles - sfn, harvnb (which are identical to the reader), unformatted short citations, rp templates, and long citations for books, with the long citations varying between templated cite xxx and non-templated refs. Perhaps someone needs to decide on a consistant style?Nigel Ish (talk) 16:55, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
There is also a lot of unused references - which could do with being moved to Further reading.Nigel Ish (talk) 17:05, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
@Alansplodge and Nigel Ish: the most important thing here is to make sure that everything is referenced, as a lack of referencing will keep the article out of OTD. A mixture of referencing styles etc isn't so bad. Bare urls will need to be addressed, but otherwise these are not concerns that will prevent an OTD apperance. How do you archive talk messages?

Mjroots And if I can't, could you? Thebrakeman2 (talk) 14:19, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

@Thebrakeman2: - I archive mine manually. Others use a bot to do the job for them. Depends how you want it done as to what would work best. Mjroots (talk) 14:23, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
@Mjroots: and how would you manually archive? Thebrakeman2 (talk) 14:40, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
Create a subpage of your user talk page (e.g. User talk:Thebrakeman2/Archive 1). Cut from talk and post into archive. Don't forget to place {{archive top}} and top of archive page and {{archive bottom}} at the bottom and add a link from your talk page. Check out any of my archive pages to see how it looks. Mjroots (talk) 14:46, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
@Mjroots: I meant how to archive the talk messages of a mainspace page (such as Talk:List of shipwrecks in 2022). Thebrakeman2 (talk) 14:58, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
@Thebrakeman2: see H:ARC, though I'm not sure it is necessary in that case. Mjroots (talk) 15:04, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
@Mjroots: Oh, I thought it would be helpful when the discussion closed, as in "Why is there a section named "Lorem Ipsum"? Thebrakeman2 (talk) 15:13, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
@Thebrakeman2: it's usually page size that determines whether or not archiving is needed. At only 5kb, it's not necessary in this case. Mjroots (talk) 15:27, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
@Thebrakeman2: With seven short threads going back no earlier than 6 January this year (7 weeks ago), Talk:List of shipwrecks in 2022 is a long way from needing to be archived. But when the time comes, say in about four months time, see either User:ClueBot III/Documentation or User:Lowercase sigmabot III/Archive HowTo. Of these, ClueBot III can be configured to archive threads based on various criteria including age (elapsed tine since last post), whereas Lowercase sigmabot III is purely age-based. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 17:26, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

Felipes

Hi Mjroots: I'm working on some lichen articles, and discovered that the article Felipes is a redirect you created more than a decade ago for a renamed ship. Would you be okay if we "commandeered" Felipes for the lichen genus, and added a hatnote for the ship? Far more online links are for the lichen genus than the ship, so most people who enter the word in the search box would probably be looking for the lichen. Otherwise, we can create a dab at Felipes – just let me know what you prefer! MeegsC (talk) 09:16, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

@MeegsC: Yes, please do hijack the redirect and add a hatnote when the article has been created. Mjroots (talk) 11:20, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
Great! Thanks for letting me know. I'll ping you when the new article is done, so that you can check that the hatnote meets with your approval. MeegsC (talk) 12:34, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
Okay, the stub is in place. Please feel free to modify the hatnote as you see fit! MeegsC (talk) 07:48, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
@MeegsC: MV Felipes might be a better link. It redirects to the list as well. Mjroots (talk) 12:02, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
Done! And that definitely looks "cleaner". MeegsC (talk) 12:04, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
