DYK for Ambikapathy (1937 film)Speedy deletion of AmrutanjanIf you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding Copy of my reply to your note on my talkThe hangon tag doesn't automatically save an article...it is supposed to lead to the talk page where an explanation of why it should be saved should be given. The article was nommed and deleted because it doesn't appear to meet WP:CORP. However, upon review, I can see that with further development, such justification could be met, so I moved the text that you were working on over to a sandbox for you, at User:Ravichandar84/sandbox2. Hope that helps. (copy of this message also on your talk.) AKRadeckiSpeaketh 15:57, 21 October 2008 (UTC) ITNKindly unblock me

Upcoming World Development contestPenubag has been hard at work developing awards for this project. He has completed a very professional looking medal, and is almost done with a trophy that is truly awesome - both of these awards are visually stunning. I and a few others have been working steadily on the country outlines that will be the focus of the contest - an outline for every country of the world! They're shaping up nicely. So far, 28 of them have been moved to article space - these aren't complete, but they are complete enough to be made available for readers to benefit from them. The rest of the set still includes temporary data that was generated by template (because it matched most but not all of the countries), and before those lists can be moved to article space, all the temporary data needs to be checked for accuracy, and if incorrect it needs to be replaced with correct information. The effort on the lists has been on 3 fronts:
There has been some opposition to us running the contest based on edit counts or iterations. The concern is that we should reward quality work and not quantity, for fear of crappy edits done quickly without thought just to earn an award. I pointed out that the collection of pages are drafts in the Wikipedia namespace (therefore posing no danger to article space) and that most of the work needs to be done with power tools like AWB and Linky (which are specifically designed for repetitive volumnous work), but the reply was that we shouldn't set the precedent of rewarding barnstars for numerically-based tasks, and implied the threat of continuously MfD'ing the contest if we attempted to do so (like they did with the Awards Center - I was very surprised and disappointed that participants didn't step up to defend it). So we need to be careful in determining what exactly the awards will represent, and how they will be awarded. Since rewarding iterations (passes with AWB on all of the pages in the set) are out, we really don't need the globe-in-stand (award we were working on) anymore. Two awards should suffice. Once we get started with the contest, I'd like to kick the whole thing off with a round of medals for those dedicated few who have worked hard on the project so far. What do you think of all of this? Your comments and suggestions are most welcome. The Transhumanist 00:37, 23 October 2008 (UTC) On the band article you wrote me about,I CSD'd the article because it did not state why the band is notable. You can fix this by stating it in the opening paragraph. Hope I helped.— Dædαlus Contribs /Improve 03:21, 23 October 2008 (UTC) Re: Able to editWithout knowing your IP address, or what blocks are affecting you, I'd rather not grant the exemption yet. You are welcome to continue editing, of course, but should this happen again, please use the {{unblock-ip}} code provided for you in your block message instead of {{unblock}}. This allows us to determine what block is affecting you, and therefore help you out easier. Hersfold (t/a/c) 04:07, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

DYK for Higginbotham'sHi there/Undivided IndiaHi there! I just realized that it was you who had proposed the merger with "British India." You may not have realized that "British India" refers to only those regions of the British Raj (i.e. India (1858-1947)) which were directly administered by the British (i.e., say, Bombay Presidency, in contrast, say to, Hyderabad State, which was a Princely State and, consequently only indirectly governed), so the merger should be with British Raj. The page British India had itself been redirected to British Raj until mid-August when an editor began to edit it as a standalone page. In fact, it is itself in the middle of an RfC that is essentially asking for the page either to be reverted to the old redirect or be redirected to the dab page British rule in India. Thanks! Re: Upcoming World Development contest
Let me see if I can alleviate your doubts by explaining the project in more detail... We are in the process of expanding Wikipedia's outline of knowledge. The purposes of the outline (which is broken down into many pages, each containing a sub-outline) is to show how the World's knowledge fits together and interrelates, while at the same time serve as a table of contents of Wikipedia (to show how the subjects are structured in this encyclopedia). These country pages we are working on are pieces of it, and when they are done they will be displayed in the Geography section. So far, 28 of them have become complete enough to be useful to readers and have been moved there already. Check it out. A similar project was undertaken by Encyclopædia Britannica in the late 60's and early 70's called the Propædia. While that was a sentence outline, Wikipedia's outline of knowledge is currently a topic outline (though it is already starting to expand to become a hybrid of the two types). I think Penubag summed it up best when he said "I think Around the world is a wonderful project that really helps the encouragement and development of our encyclopedia. It greatly expands the connection between our articles, something I've long noticed Wikipedia desperately needs. This is just one small step, and a big one in fact!" I hope I've helped put this project into perspective for you. Thank you for supporting Wikipedia and becoming a Wikipedian. I look forward to working with you. The upload record shows that the uploader was User:Nagarajan knb - who was also the only contributor (outside of one who tagged it as I4). The uploader was notified of the impending deletion at User talk:Nagarajan knb. Perhaps you switched user names? - or are thinking of a different image that you uploaded? - as the history for this image does not have you connected with it. P. T. RajanI noticed your DYK submission of P. T. Rajan and was delighted to see that there was another alumnus of Jesus College Oxford mentioned. I have great fun adding names to List of alumni of Jesus College, Oxford - do your sources happen to give dates for his matriculation/graduation? Regards, BencherliteTalk 21:21, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Hi, I think you made a small mistake and placed this Edtitor review request in the article namespace. :) DYK for P. T. Rajan |
