Maldivian fishingHello! Fishing industry in the Maldives. Can you please move the DYK to started on the 4th of Feb when it was created -you listed it under Feb 2, need more time to work on it. Also can you think of a different hook as the current one isn't entirely accurate. Thanks! Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:35, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Thats fine. Thanks Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:51, 8 February 2009 (UTC) Well Admittedly I do know more about north-east Afghanistan than anywhere else in the country but I'm not sure what I could do. What was the other article you wanted me to look at again? Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:44, 9 February 2009 (UTC) Army? No, but I tip my hat off to those who have been fighting out in Afghanistan. It really is a very barren place in parts from the looks of it. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:36, 9 February 2009 (UTC) Exactly those guys will fight to the burger. Must be very dispiriting in no man's land. Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:11, 9 February 2009 (UTC) DYK for Ramnad estateMailingYou can EMail me on

Rosiestep (talk) 02:26, 10 February 2009 (UTC) Thanks a million for the delicious pie!Yes, you really "made my day"! Thank you for that - I was in pain (I have bad arthritis) and could not concentrate on a book I am trying to prepare for publishing on the history of the Silk Routes and so was feeling quite "down" until I noticed your totally unexpected present for me. What a treat! I look forward to more contact with you and hope we can share information on the early Tamil kingdoms which I discuss in some detail in the notes to my annotated translation of the 3rd century Chinese history, the Weilüe, which briefly discusses the sea routes between China and the Roman Empire at that period. I have an early draft of it on the internet at the moment - but I need to revise and update some of the notes before publishing it as a book. Anyway, that's for the future - right now - I just wanted to express my gratitude for your kindness and let you know that it really meant something to me. Cheers and all best wishes, John Hill (talk) 11:27, 10 February 2009 (UTC) WikiholismWell yes I do edit wikipedia excessively but not compulsively as much as it seems. I only edit so much because so much needs doing!!! If you said, don't edit for two weeks, then I'm certain I could settle down with a nice book or go for a walk in the park or something. Wikiholism is kind of like "I can't live without wikipedia". Sure I'd miss it but I would find something else to do and not break out in withdrawal sweats or whatever LOL. If there were a lack of things to do on here I'd probably not edit so much it is just the huge possibilities and high potential on here that makes it difficult to stop editing!! Its just try to get as much done as possible hence the high edit count out of my own choice because a] I enjoy wikipedia b]I enjoy the concept of expanding an encyclopedia used by millions around the world c]SO much work needs doing with it!!. Oh please don't nominate me for adminship, thats the worst thing I could do on here!! Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:38, 10 February 2009 (UTC) Well in my experience the higher the edit count and editing experience the more people will find "evidence" to bring you down. It would seem odd to be judged or "misjudged" by a group of editors some of which barely ever edit the mainspace encyclopedia. There is a good reason why I haven't gone for adminship!! I have managed very well to date without that sort of hassle! Besides being a non admin means that I am free to speak as I wish to disagreeable editors and not display unnatural patience with those lemon editors!! It would be like Dr. Evil joining British Intelligence huh? Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:51, 10 February 2009 (UTC) My wikiholia seems to have been non existent today, I've barely been here, I do have days when I just really don't feel like an encyclopedia. I've been playing along with ACDC's new album Black Ice on my Fender Strat. Ooooohhhh Black Ice...Perhaps if I left entirely I would be cured of this disease? Dr. Blofeld White cat 23:10, 10 February 2009 (UTC) The kingdom of PandyaDear Ravi: Thank you for your kind notes. And, yes, I do really love Yule's Marco Polo too. On another note - I wonder if you would be kind enough to have a look at the notes to my early draft edition of the 3rd century Chinese history, the Weilue, on the Silk Road Seatlle website where I identify a kingdom referred to there as "the Kingdom of Panyue 盤越 [P’an-yüeh]" as the ancient Pandian kingdom in southern India? I would be extremely grateful if you have any comments, suggestions or criticisms - but please don't feel under any pressure or obligation. You can access the whole book by going to http://depts.washington.edu/silkroad/texts/texts.html and clicking on Weilue. If you want to read the brief passage on Panyue in the Weilue, click on http://depts.washington.edu/silkroad/texts/weilue/weilue.html#section8 For my notes on this section of the book, click on http://depts.washington.edu/silkroad/texts/weilue/notes7_10.html#8_1 Hope this is all of some interest to you. Although all the contacts are mentioned as "embassies," it seems probable that they would have come on merchant ships and that there would have been far more visits by merchant ships without embassies which would, therefore, not have been recorded in the Chinese records. Anyway, here is the quote from my notes: "There are records of envoys from 'India' in 159 and 161 CE travelling by sea via the Han prefecture of Rinan (on the central Vietnamese coast) to China. Others from “beyond the barrier” arrived in 173 CE and 183 CE. See The Roman Empire in Chinese Sources. (1996). D.D. Leslie and K. H. J. Gardiner , p. 153, and n. 50. There are some indications that these embassies may have been sent by Saka satraps in Gujarat rather than from the Kushans, see ibid. p. 137." I should add that if ships were travelling from the northwest coast of India to China, it is very likely indeed that ships would also have been sailing to China from southeastern India, and the product lists in the 3rd century Weilüe would seem to indicate this as well.
