Talk Page Only Showing Active Topics, Where Did Old Ones Go?

Hi there @RightCowLeftCoast:! I peeked in here to find the wiki code how to Refer to a person (so they get a notification they were mentioned), but it looks like your old Talk tropics all got archived, manually deleted, or are hidden. What's going on there? Thanks and I look fwd to the July 2019 San Diego regional Comic Con EditAThon meetup. From, Peter. --Vid2vid (talk) 02:50, 21 June 2019 (UTC)

Yah, I am utilizing a bot which archives older conversations automatically.--RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 02:56, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
@RightCowLeftCoast: Aha, got it. Thanks & have a super night! From, Peter. --Vid2vid (talk) 03:05, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
PS. Edit ...to where does the Bot archive said posts, and, are they stored somewhere for only your personal perusal or is there a link to them? Warm regards. From, Peter. --Vid2vid (talk) 03:26, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
@Vid2vid: scroll to the top of the talk page, there is an archive box, which allows anyone to search through my talk page archive.--RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 03:30, 21 June 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Smuggler's Gulch

On 3 August 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Smuggler's Gulch, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that trash, sediment, and debris from Tijuana flow into the United States through Smuggler's Gulch (pictured)? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Smuggler's Gulch. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Smuggler's Gulch), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Demographics of Filipino Americans

Hello:

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Demographics of Filipino Americans has been completed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

I have a couple of observations I’ll pass along which may help improve the article’s chance of achieving A-class or FA-class status. Issues can develop over time with an article of this size with may people contributing to it.

In many areas the article is over cited. For example, the first sentence in the opening section, National population demographics, "The Filipino American community is the second-largest Asian American group in the United States with a population of over 3.4 million as of the 2010 US Census," has SIX citations. This is one single fact that requires one citation, from the U.S. Census. I suggest you go through the article and trim excessive citations. If a citation is from a reputable source one or two is all that is required. As it stands, with bundled citations I suspect the article likely has close to 500 citations.

In many sections incremental data is supplied. In the California section for example: "In 1910, there were only five Filipinos in California;[107] ten years later, in 1920, 2,674 Filipinos lived there.[108] In 1930, there were about 35,000…" I would suggest removing "ten years later, in 1920, 2,674 Filipinos lived there." These intermediate numbers are unnecessary and add to the length of an already very long article.

I would suggest that anywhere in the article a series like this appears that you review it with an eye to trimming excessive detail if that is the case.

I tagged the article for updating. Obviously when the results of the 2020 Census are published the article will need to be rewritten with the new data. In the meantime, there are instances like this one in the Education section: "The 1990 Census reports that Filipino Americans had the highest percentage of college educated individuals of any Asian American population" This data is 30 years old. Can it be updated now, or would it be better to cut it out? Again, I think it's worth going through the article and trimming as much out-of-date information as possible.

Best of luck with with your pursuit of A or FA-class status. There's been a massive amount of work done on this article and it certainly deserves its GA status.

Regards,

Twofingered Typist (talk) 12:59, 5 August 2019 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of 1959 San Diego F3H crash

The article 1959 San Diego F3H crash has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Doesnt appear to be particularly noteworthy for a mention in wikipedia, military aircraft regular crash and are rarely of note. Notability cant be based on it may have hit something as a lot of aircraft nearly hit things

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. 2019 US Banknote Contest

  US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Thanks for the barnstar

The edit-a-thon went well. James an area Wikipedian came and helped us out. He was fantastic. People had a great experience. They're critique was that it should have lasted a whole day instead of a half day. Next year at the convention, I think I will try to be available for help with editing whenever the Women's Caucus space is not in use for other panels. San Diego is a beautiful city. Oh and as of yesterday we made 150 edits at the edit-a-thon.--Dzingle1 (talk) 15:33, 23 November 2019 (UTC)

Just happened to see this Dzingle1. Glad to hear the meetup went off well. I've followed quite a bit of the editing by the participants but they do not seem to have progressed much beyond their user pages and a few minor edits to existing articles. Please let me know if any new articles were created and I'll try to help them along.--Ipigott (talk) 17:21, 23 November 2019 (UTC)

@Ipigott: I am only assisting Dr. Helen M Dixon with her endeavor on Monday, just as I assisted Dzingle1 (talk · contribs) yesterday. If I can assist those who are seaking to add/improve content within our user group's geographic scope, then it is a net benefit.
If travel to the event is not too much of an inconvenience, I am sure that Dr. Dixon would enjoy having an additional experienced editor assist her. Do you want me to contact her, to let her know you'll also be attending the event?--RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 18:10, 23 November 2019 (UTC)
I'm in Denmark. Any help will be remote. I don't recognize the name Dixon but perhaps I know her by her user name. By all means let her and anyone else involved know that I would be happy to help remotely. Sorry I cannot make it physically. I know the area well having done business with La Jolla in the 1970s and 80s.--Ipigott (talk) 18:46, 23 November 2019 (UTC)

Landing of the first Filipinos

Hi RightCowLeftCoast, I was wondering if you were intending to continue with the GAN of this article at Talk:Landing of the first Filipinos/GA1; it seems to need very little doing to it. Or would you prefer me to fail it? Thanks. Gog the Mild (talk) 13:38, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

@Gog the Mild and Airplaneman: Sorry for my inactivity as of recent. My work responsibilities have increased, decreasing my time I have to spend editing Wikipedia, and on other projects of WMF. I would like to continue to working on my GANs, but understand if they are closed as fails. GANs can always be opened again, if they are listed as fails. If both, or one of you, are willing to be patient with me, I will attempt to address the concerns posted at the review pages, as soon as time becomes available.--RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 00:54, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
@RightCowLeftCoast: No problem, RL happens. From my PoV there is no rush. So long as you are actively and positively engaged, take as long as you need. I shall take both off hold. Gog the Mild (talk) 11:55, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
Just checking whether you would like me to take over the assessment of History of Filipino Americans. I don't especially want to, but will rather than see a decent article go unassessed. Gog the Mild (talk) 14:46, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
Is there a consensus that the original reviewer has abandoned the task?--RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 17:09, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
They have made a single edit on Wikipedia since 7 October; since 2 September they have been repeatedly pinged by HawkAussie. MrClog and myself without responding; they have only made a single contribution to the GAN, and that was to urge a quick fail. I don't think that they are coming back. Gog the Mild (talk) 17:30, 22 November 2019 (UTC)

I'm more than happy to keep Talk:Pensionado Act/GA1 on hold. There's no rush on my end. We will get to it when we can! Best, Airplaneman (talk) 19:24, 25 November 2019 (UTC)

You removed content (specifically some consensus of other editors) when making your comments on the AfD. I believe it was an accident since you overwrote people who felt the same way about the article as you, but please be more careful in the future. --Mr. Vernon (talk) 04:29, 19 February 2020 (UTC)

@Mr. Vernon: I think this is a case of an edit conflict, and it was inadvertent. It was not my goal to suppress anyone from stating their opinion.--RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 04:32, 19 February 2020 (UTC)
@Mr. Vernon: I see where I accidentally caused the error, as I was responding to this notification, without clicking on the most recent version of the AfD. Apologies, I am fallible after all, and did not mean to erase anyone elses opinion in my attempt to add my own.--RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 04:36, 19 February 2020 (UTC)
No worries! I'm not an admin anyway, and I know it was an honest mistake (people usually don't remove comments they agree with from AfDs.) --Mr. Vernon (talk) 04:37, 19 February 2020 (UTC)

DYK for Shugo Nakamura

On 28 March 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Shugo Nakamura, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Japanese voice actor Shugo Nakamura, who has voiced characters in The Idolmaster SideM and other anime series, was recognized as one of the Best New Actors at the 2019 Seiyu Awards? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Shugo Nakamura. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Shugo Nakamura), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
